There weren't many moments worth remembering from last night's game, but David did capture a few:

Mark DeRosa homers in the second inning, giving the Cubs a brief lead

Jim Edmonds watches Russell Martin's 9th-inning homer land in the basket

Future Hall-of-Famer Greg Maddux, warming up before what might be his final appearance at Wrigley Field

First
I’d rather the Cubs end that way!
imknowdummy - October 2, 2008
Ball Hop Over Edmonds
The first thing I thought of when seeing the picture of Edmonds was the one he misplayed that turned a double into a triple. He’s a former Gold Glover, but let that ball play him rather than giving a step or two away from the wall for the bounce. As it turned out the next batter stroked a single, so the runner may have scored from second. I expect better play from Edmonds. Oh well.
SpudV - October 2, 2008
Hmm. I was on my knees praying a few times during the ballgame last nite like Jimmy Ballgame
in the second pic appears to be doing. Didn’t work for me either.
Zeke - October 2, 2008
Prediction
Cubs win tonight.
Cubs go on to win series 3-1
Cub Fan Mike - October 2, 2008
That'd work for me.
Al Yellon - October 2, 2008
Like the sound of that Mike.
Tangled Up In Blue - October 2, 2008
I'll go with the Baseball Prospectus prediction
Dempster throws a gem in game 5.
daeviant - October 2, 2008
One game.
We win tonight and everything changes. I’ll take my chances with Harden and Lilly in that huge stadium. Come on, Cubbies!
ScottieG33 - October 2, 2008
Please let that happen.
sue369 - October 2, 2008
I thought bringing Maddux in was quite odd
dtpollitt - October 2, 2008
Torre just wanted someone in
to throw strikes, who better to have than him.
JPetey - October 2, 2008
Maddux
“to throw
strikesthe ball over the plate, who better to have than him.”Fixed it, 7-2 lead and the way the Cubs were playing last night, no need to even throw strikes.
IllinoisCubs - October 2, 2008
999 career walks in 23 seasons
If he retires after this year, he’ll join Fergie Jenkins in the “3000+ strikeouts, fewer than 1000 walks” club.
hip2bsquare - October 2, 2008
it was either
a personal insult to cubs fans to see this reminder of Tribune stupidity
or
a classy sendoff for Maddog at Wrigley
Andre Fonseca - October 2, 2008
When Maddux was warming up
I said to my friend, “That just adds insult to injury”
daeviant - October 2, 2008
One of the Tribune writers said today...
… it was like Ditka sending in the Fridge to score that TD in the Super Bowl.
Al Yellon - October 2, 2008
True.
I hated seeing it, but guessed Torre wanted to give him one more appearance at Wrigley. That and save the rest of his ’pen.
N Oakley - October 2, 2008
Close but not about Wrigley
Once they had the 5th run they did not need Saito ( though he threw again when the runner go on in the 9th), Maddux is not going to start in this series and I think Torre wanted to give him something constructive to do. Maddux himself was resigned to not starting and made a point of reminding people he HAD relieved in the post season with the Braves. Also Maddux had coached Lowe through the whole game so perhaps it was a little bit of a reward but I don’t think it had anything to do with the game being at Wrigley.
Doggie Stalker - October 2, 2008
I gotta admit...
…I wondered whether sending Maddux out there was a little bit of psychological warfare on Torre’s part.
daver - October 2, 2008
Or a kick in the groin
gocubsgo22 - October 2, 2008
I took it as warfare
as well as that big hug he gave Pinella during the opening lineups
Andre Fonseca - October 2, 2008
Please win
I thought I bought enough beer for both games.
Last night I drank it all.
Not sure I can keep this up money wise and health wise.
IllinoisCubs - October 2, 2008
I'll confess here and now
I didn’t sleep too good last night.
zevkalman - October 2, 2008
Me too bro.
I kept having to tell myself not to panic. And I’m not. But I won’t say I wasn’t dissapointed. I’d rather my team win through adversity than walk to the championship. There’s a reason these titles are decided by series and not singel games. GO CUBS GO. I have FAITH!
Colorado Cubbies Fan - October 2, 2008
Got a case waiting here for you
Import AND Domestic mixed case.
I’ll send it to Chicago if they win the series vs. the Dodgers.
CubFaninNY - October 2, 2008
For you Howry Fans out there...

TheRiot Police - October 2, 2008
I wish Hoff-POWER was on the roster instead of Howry
Howry is useless.
zevkalman - October 2, 2008
He would've been great in the 9th last night
Pitch a meaningless inning.
CubFaninNY - October 2, 2008
Hot damn this game doesn't start for another 8 hours.
If I’m nervous, I really don’t want to think about Carlos right now…
dtpollitt - October 2, 2008
I know Im not supposed to do this but oh well...
I am playing with the idea of having my own little no budget typical blog, and I got it started yesterday and posted my review of the game on their today… I plan on writing my review/opinion on sports-music-politics-life… basically anything that gets me writting, but I just wrote a review, I didnt take the time to edit it – but for future reviews of these playoff games other then from this website – I will get better at it over there on my new blog So feel free to stop by and drop me a message! Toniight there will hopefully be a very very positive fun review in the making to be posted tomorrow
SouthsideCUBSfan - October 2, 2008

SouthsideCUBSfan - October 2, 2008
Wait, wait, wait...
You have asked the question “what skin” while SWL lurks.
Uh oh, shark in the water…
N Oakley - October 2, 2008
Ill take any suggestions on a good background color
How can I find my own skin online and apply it to that blog?
SouthsideCUBSfan - October 2, 2008

Emelie - October 2, 2008
Who do you think you are
Bill Simmons? Kidding, good luck. When my attention span allows me to, I’ll be sure to check it out.
Jayo525 - October 2, 2008
When do they post the lineups?
NittanyCub - October 2, 2008
Maybe an hour or two before the game.
Al Yellon - October 2, 2008
Anybody else strangely calm today?
Yesterday, I was a bundle of nerves… stomach in knots, couldn’t focus on anything, etc.
Today is completely different. I’m looking forward to the game but not obsessing about it or worrying about it. I don’t know if it’s quiet confidence, indifference or a sense of impending doom.
hokie316 - October 2, 2008
Exactly my thoughts. Well done, man :-)
zevkalman - October 2, 2008
I hope that bright light isnt an oncoming train!
MikeOxbyg - October 2, 2008
I was, but started worrying about other
things I can no longer control:
Global Warming
Asteroids
Black Holes
White Sox, White Sox, White Sox
Economy
Retirement
College Fund
Now I’m all tense.

Good old Dwayne Staats on the Rays radio broadcast
How long did he last in Chicago, 1 year??
Itchy - October 2, 2008
I'm surprised Farmer's made it more than a year
He’s BRUTAL
Jayo525 - October 2, 2008
Yes he is!
Itchy - October 2, 2008

make one of those reverse gamethreads tonight
Chanman25 - October 2, 2008
Rejected again
We’re sorry, but you were not selected for an opportunity to purchase tickets to 2008 National League Championship Series games at Wrigley Field.
Tickets for any additional postseason games played at Wrigley Field will be available through
Itchy - October 2, 2008
Well they are
saving your name for WS tickets. :D
sue369 - October 2, 2008
The e-mail said it was our last opportunity
to purchase PS tickets, all other tix can be bought on StubHub. Of course, since StubHub and MLB work together to muster every last cent they can out of people.
Jayo525 - October 2, 2008
As long as they get that far, I'll be happy!!
Itchy - October 2, 2008
Anyway....
I’ll see y’all tomorrow. May everyone have a very good night.
N Oakley - October 2, 2008
THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN!
If they get swept, Wrigley needs to razed, lose Soriano and Zambrano, send Fukodome to AAA and totally change uniforms. I have had it!

Looking for Z to sizzle!
