Oh and I doubt Dempster would want to re-sign for this craptastic cluster@($*#&$
These guys showed little to no fire, desire, or emotion in this series or last year’s. I wag my finger at Soriano, who not one time stopped pressing at the plate, and looked like a black hole of gloom on the bench. The Cubs can make the postseason without him . . . I will be among the first to say he MUST be traded, even if the club has to eat massive amounts of his contract. The lack of postseason success for him alone has set up this team for offensive futility in October each of the past two years.
I just wish SOMEBODY, ANYBODY on this team would forget about the curse crap and the pressure and just perform like a professional in the postseason!
I will always be a Cubs fan, and they had a superb season that I will remember fondly for many years. . . but it will also be remembered with a bitter taste and a stain on all of the efforts that came before because of this deplorable lack of professionalism and performance, mostly on offense.

I have to admit, I’m not completely surprised. They’ve been leaving far too many men on base for much of the season. As awful and disappointed as I am right now, I do have to admit that this was one hell of a season. We’ll start over again in 6 months, and do it right this time.
when the fuck is soriano and ramirez going to show up?
D Lee showed the fuck up today but the other 24 men did not. I’m tired of this shit. I was so excited for the playoffs to start but I rather have seen the Cardinals play in the playoffs then this shit team. Two years in a row. That should hurt. bet you they’ll make it three. This is just great. I’m so disappointed with the effort and the lack of clutch hitting. and btw chicago stop making fucking rallies because they are for naught. I’m tired of this the team and i hope fucking soriano either gets traded or is away for this team because hes a little puny punk ass bitch that can’t produce when the game is on teh line. Matt Holiday is there for the taking. lets get him in here
who does the rally. They did for all the teams who had clinched early. The Sox were still playing or had just finished and there wasn’t a time frame for them to have one.
The last two outs were by the Japanese Fraud and the Brainless Hacker, who for the nth time swung at a ball in the dirt.
All this team did during the regular season was thrown out the window. It’s meaningless now. This was disgusting, but I feel like the owner of an injured racehorse who’s relieved that his beloved thoroughbred was put out of its misery. When your starter runs out of gas after only 70 or so pitches and your hitters bail on the good pitches and swing at everything low and away, the result is obvious. My heart goes to those fans, especially the young ones who are getting their first taste of this futility called the Cubs.
I don’t know if a digit will be added to the sign on that building behind the outfield at Wrigley. We’ll see as we’re all forced to wait till’ next year… again!
There is a difference about calling a guy what he is and being a racist.
Fukudome was a bust and his reputation was a fraud. He can prove me wrong next year. But I’ll call him the RF Fraud so it doesn’t sound race-related. Thanks for the eye-opening comment. it was helpful. All I can say is there was no racist intention behind my comment.
1. Soriano hitting leadoff is not a good idea in the post season. It’s ok during the season because he can hammer mediocre pitchers that can’t locate but against elite pitchers he simply does not know how to work them, go the other way or walk. Giving him the most at bats in a critical series is a mistake and sets a bad tone.
2. This post season and last post season the Cubs had a poor approach at the plate. You can’t swing for the fences against top pitchers. Instead of concentrating on getting on base and putting the ball in play they took big, anxious swings and showed little patience.
3. Despite Dempster’s fine year, starting a pitcher in game one of a short series that had never started a playoff game is probably not a good idea. because you really have no clue how he’s going to respond. If he blows it, it starts things off poorly.
4. The Cub’s regulars had not been swinging the bats well in September. I think the last 2 games against the Brewers should have been treated as playoff games to get into a groove. Especially the one against CC. Instead, the offensive approach against CC this time was poor, allowing him to pitch a complete game with around 120 pitches.
I was vey concerned at that point .
5. The above is how I felt before the first pitch was even thrown.
And since Al didn't open his last post for comments, I'll post it hre.
I’m sorry, Al. I feel for you and all the other loyal fans who didn’t deserve any of this. Hopefully, these group of chokers in uniform will apologize before they go home.
Thanks for everything, Al. There will be time to analyze the future. Now it’s time to mourn and rest.
At least we’re not Mets fans. Missing the postseason 2 years in a row like they have is slightly more embarassing than our failure in the postseason the past two seasons.
the only things lou has done that we could be disappointed with is start dempster instead of Z game 1, and not hit Theriot #2 on Wedneday. Ramirez, Soriano, and Fukodome failed at the plate and the infield played as if there was a gun pointed to their heads. Lou isn’t swingin the bat, throwing the ball, or pitching. the players have to play. the excuse to blame the manager is BS.
lou just said he was concerned about the offense…then why did he not start the regular lineup the last week of the season. you gotta have momentum going into the postseason
i was saying this before now i those games in milwakee were big we could of handled the mets. dodger werent a good matchup. we pretty match had it in our hands who we played in the 1st round
A lot of Cubs fans in my section (46 field level) to commiserate with. I have lived in San Jose. California since 1982 – most of my life. You can find whatever type of people and whatever type of life you like in California. I like it. I found the love of my life and really, the rest of my life in California.
Now. Can we at least say that Derrick Lee had a good series? The Lee bashers at least have to give him a few points.
I am all in favor of starting to think about what we do about Sori.
said he is tired of being the guy who is giving congrats to the opposing team, he was concerned about the offense before the playoff started, blah blah and blah.
Sportscaster: What do you tell the fans?
Soriano: Nothing. Be patient. We have a good group….(I didnt listen to the rest that first part pissed me off)
and punk describes his terrible play. if you think i was calling him a punk as in he is a punk outside of baseball then you need to stop “taking the bat” to your head.
I’ve lived in Houston and seen just how fair-weathered fans can be. We stick by this team through 95 loss seasons and choke jobs like 2004 only to be rewarded with a heartless, sloppy three game ass-kicking by an 84 win team! So yes, we deserve better than that.
if they had Manny the whole year they would probably have had a lot more than 84 wins. Can no one see that the Dodgers are (gulp) actually a pretty good team?
I was worried about playing the Dodgers. Even without Manny, we played them when they had a lot of injuries. But that was a common theme in the NL West.. They were going down (pardon the expression) like $2 whores.
Never has there been a bigger waste of money. Fire Hendry for signing these worthless, gutless players to play for us and do nothing when it counts. Soriano is lucky to even be employed in this league he is a pathetic baseball player
i hate this offense. we need a good hitter like matt holliday/manny ramirez/bobby abreu
i actually think this could happen
- Abreu signs with the Cubs
- Fukudome is in center
-Sori is back and still the same old sori
-Lee stays
-Ramirez stays
-Soto stays
- DeRosa stays
-i don’t think Theriot is going to be teh starter. I might be wrong but i dont care
I just want to say thanks for hanging in there. I see you responding to all of the naysayers crawling out of the woodwork (La Cucuracha, La Cucaracha). I was at the game in Dodger stadium tonight. Never been there before. It was an Art Deco hole in the wall.
I had a good time with the Cubs fans there. I did not have a hard time with the Dodgers fans who actually bothered to talk with me. We joked. I wished them a happy, long-term, $28 million dollar /yr relationship with Manny, and they laughed. Of course, there were the idiots who yelled “Sweep” (get a life – its the playoffs, you should have more to worry about than a sweep) and “Cubs suck” (unfortunately, some do, and some did, but you are still an idiot).
With two questions:
Is Piniella’s contract extension a good thing for you guys?
When they introduce the “2008 NL Central Champions” at the home opener next year, will fans moan, boo or clap, and why? Just wondering. Honestly feel for you guys and don’t want to rub any salt in.
People here are just venting. Lou has done wonderful things with this team. Nearly everyone sucked as soon as the post season started but I dont think Lou is the cause. Why he played Dome so much is a mystery but was he the cause of back to back errors in Game 2? Of course not. The Cubs played to lose every game. I don’t blame Lou.
In regards to your second question, I will die a little inside when they intro the Cubs as the Central champs.
What kind of team is not on the bench cheering their teammates on when they are at bat in the playoffs
FOR EXAMPLE: when they showed the dugout after derrick Lees hit in the 8th only a few coaches were in the dugout…
THAT SAYS IT ALL
and thats how this team played… no emotion no heart no desire..
No matter what kind of CUB FAN you are there is no defense for this team not being on the field firing up there teammates from the dugout when they are at bat in the playoffs NONE…
that alone shows you the heart of this team…
Watching the game from the locker room while your teammates are supposedly trying their best to get a hit in the playoffs is inexcusable…DEFEND THAT LOU
and the Media blamed the cubs fans for not supporting them during the first home game when the CUBS themselves are not in the dugout supporting their teammates in game 3… I dont want to hear anything from any cub after seeing that
I was at the game trying to stay positive and what I didn’t get was why weren’t the Cubs players on the dugout railing during the last 4 innings when there was a legitimate chance to win,. I thought this was a team all season that celebrated together why werent they standing tall supporting each other like the great Red Sox, Yankee, and White Sox teams that I have seen the past 10 years…so crushed right now…
It was a magical season and they go out in three games, like a frightened bunch of 8 year old girls who’ve never played. I don’t know who that team was, but it wasn’t the one that played the regular season.
Why do I sign on for this heartbreak? Why? I wish I knew how to quit the Cubs.
I came into this season with great excitement, enjoyed every game with excitement, and came into the playoffs with great anticipation and excitement. With the sweep by the Dodgers, this 2007 season now I see as a complete failure and disappointment. The 2 consecutive NL Central Division championships get erased in my mind because of this. How many playoff wins have the Pirates, Royals and Cubs had since 2004? The answer is zero. I feel like I have wasted the past 6 months.
is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Being a Cub fan is insanity. We expect something in the post season that never arrives. I was there in the stands in 1984 in San Diego to see the Cubs drop 3 straight to the Padres. Whatever the circumstances…whatever the expectations…whatever the makeup of the team and management..through the ages…this team finds ways to deliver soul crushing disappointment to their fans. To improve my mental health I really believe after 50+ years following this team I am done. Not just wth the Cubs but all sports. By definition in sports there must be winners and losers. I am tired of being in the latter category. Every cruel remark ever tossed at the Cubs must be regarded as certain truth as to defend this team with its long history of failure is a waste of time. Henceforth and forever past let’s drop the ‘loveable’ from ‘Loveable Losers’ and view this team as just plain losers. And for those dreamer who dream about next year each and every cold fall…you deserve to be painted with the same brush.

santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008
sorry for my language which I know is not always appreciated
derv - October 5, 2008
Who here is not appreciating derv's language?
(….crickets….)
See?
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008
And since Al didn't open his last post for comments, I'll post it hre.
I’m sorry, Al. I feel for you and all the other loyal fans who didn’t deserve any of this. Hopefully, these group of chokers in uniform will apologize before they go home.
Thanks for everything, Al. There will be time to analyze the future. Now it’s time to mourn and rest.
Fraggin Judge - October 5, 2008
Mourn? Nobody died...the Cubs just lost some baseball games...
aren’t we all used to that by now? Sheesh.
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008
The season of hopes just died.
Fraggin Judge - October 5, 2008
Every season dies...we just think ours died prematurely.
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008
don't we mourn more
for premature death?
MJMars - October 5, 2008
Of things that were never alive? not really....
fetuses.
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008
I'm glad someone can put things in perspective.
I’ve been to a lot of wakes and funerals that aren’t this angst ridden. Good grief, get a grip people.
Bump Bailey - October 5, 2008
I had a client back in the day...
…that learned I was a Cubs fan, and he told me that he had his heart broken so badly in 1969 that he gave up on baseball completely.
derv - October 5, 2008
This is an interesting thought
IllinoisCubs - October 5, 2008
He honestly did not know the status of the Cubs at that time of the conversation - he had truly stopped being a fan.
I found that amazing at the time.
derv - October 5, 2008
No kidding.
sue369 - October 5, 2008
Just have to fix it next year
Figure out some changes. No point doing the same thing all over .
alexinSac - October 5, 2008
enough of alfonso soriano
sorry i think it’s time to get rid of that dump
lexmarklover - October 5, 2008
Could be worse
At least we’re not Mets fans. Missing the postseason 2 years in a row like they have is slightly more embarassing than our failure in the postseason the past two seasons.
Theriot: SonofChuckNorris - October 5, 2008
Mets in 2007/2008 = Cubs in 2003/2004
CaliCub - October 5, 2008
You think there is much of a difference?
Fraggin Judge - October 5, 2008
id rather
not get in than get swept up twice
tbizzle83 - October 5, 2008
where the fuck is reed johnson?
lou i think you’re bullshitting every cub fan out there. Fukudome? Then next game you play him. WOw
lexmarklover - October 5, 2008
I just saw Lou on TBS and his act is getting old.
Fraggin Judge - October 5, 2008
What do you want him to say? or do?
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008
well his fuckign team lost 3 games in a row. not to mention it was quite embarrasing to lost this way.
manager reflects his team. if you can’t win in the playoffs, that tells me something about you…
lexmarklover - October 5, 2008
Um...you know that the best team doesn't always win in the playoffs don't you?
And winning 97 games and back to back division titles should also reflect on the manager as well….no? Bobby Cox sucks too?
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008
2 years in a row buddy
think about it
lexmarklover - October 5, 2008
You can't measure a manager's worth based on a team's post-season performance.
Or maybe you can….who’s going to do better?
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008

vonde6 - October 5, 2008
lou isn't swingin the bat
the only things lou has done that we could be disappointed with is start dempster instead of Z game 1, and not hit Theriot #2 on Wedneday. Ramirez, Soriano, and Fukodome failed at the plate and the infield played as if there was a gun pointed to their heads. Lou isn’t swingin the bat, throwing the ball, or pitching. the players have to play. the excuse to blame the manager is BS.
Theriot: SonofChuckNorris - October 5, 2008
who fucking put them in the position to play?
the excuse that he’s not hitting and not pitching and not fielding. He’s the one that put those players in that situation.

IllinoisCubs - October 5, 2008

lou just said he was concerned about the offense…then why did he not start the regular lineup the last week of the season. you gotta have momentum going into the postseason
tbizzle83 - October 5, 2008
If he had...and the same thing happened...
you’d be saying he didn’t make sure they were “fresh” for the post season….
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008
no
i was saying this before now i those games in milwakee were big we could of handled the mets. dodger werent a good matchup. we pretty match had it in our hands who we played in the 1st round

I HATE CALIFORNIA
I ABSOLUTELY HATE CALIFORNIA.
Besides sandiegosmoothjazzman and I think we may have a few others who live out there is there anything good from that state?
The funny thing is the Dodgers have alwas been my favorite NL team besides the Cubs,
puckishcubsfan - October 5, 2008
this

tbizzle83 - October 5, 2008

it’s fair to bash an entire state because our baseball team forgot when the playoffs start…
Goodie1969 - October 5, 2008
It was a good time at the game tonight
A lot of Cubs fans in my section (46 field level) to commiserate with. I have lived in San Jose. California since 1982 – most of my life. You can find whatever type of people and whatever type of life you like in California. I like it. I found the love of my life and really, the rest of my life in California.
Now. Can we at least say that Derrick Lee had a good series? The Lee bashers at least have to give him a few points.
I am all in favor of starting to think about what we do about Sori.
vonde6 - October 5, 2008
some of you guys are right
trade everyone fire everyone down to the receptionist.
Let’s win 60 games next year but maybe they’ll show heart!
puckishcubsfan - October 5, 2008
I can't believe we're having this discussion...
has everyone forgotten what this team was like in 2006?
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008

I was being sarcastic but there are several people here who’ve made it clear they want it.

it’s about the same thing.

F the Cubs
This team doesn’t deserve us as fans.
LerxstCub - October 5, 2008
Boy, are they lucky guys to have us rooting them on.
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008
Yes they are
I’ve lived in Houston and seen just how fair-weathered fans can be. We stick by this team through 95 loss seasons and choke jobs like 2004 only to be rewarded with a heartless, sloppy three game ass-kicking by an 84 win team! So yes, we deserve better than that.
LerxstCub - October 5, 2008
To be fair
if they had Manny the whole year they would probably have had a lot more than 84 wins. Can no one see that the Dodgers are (gulp) actually a pretty good team?
Goodie1969 - October 5, 2008
Yes
I was worried about playing the Dodgers. Even without Manny, we played them when they had a lot of injuries. But that was a common theme in the NL West.. They were going down (pardon the expression) like $2 whores.
vonde6 - October 5, 2008
Soriano and Ramirez
With fans like you guys it’s a wonder the players feel they owe nothing to the fans.
We would not have won 97 games without them.
And they probably feel worse than any of us feel right now. I know some idiots say they don’t care.
Because they don’t kill themselves they don’t care?
puckishcubsfan - October 5, 2008
There lucky they have any fans at all the way they perform and choke
CubsBall2202 - October 5, 2008
Soriano and Ramirez
Never has there been a bigger waste of money. Fire Hendry for signing these worthless, gutless players to play for us and do nothing when it counts. Soriano is lucky to even be employed in this league he is a pathetic baseball player

lexmarklover - October 5, 2008

i think most of us here understand there are far worse things in life than rooting for a baseball team that breaks your heart. annually.
but they just broke my heart yesterday. i think it’s OK for people to vent their sadness and frustration.
Ryno72 - October 5, 2008
You are correct derv.
Hope your wife will be ok. It’s baseball not life or death.
sue369 - October 5, 2008
Lou's on WGN radio with Cory Provus
Talking about the 6 runs in 3 games – you gotta score runs to win 3 games at any time.
va cubsfan - October 5, 2008
i hate this offense. we need a good hitter like matt holliday/manny ramirez/bobby abreu
i actually think this could happen
- Abreu signs with the Cubs
- Fukudome is in center
-Sori is back and still the same old sori
-Lee stays
-Ramirez stays
-Soto stays
- DeRosa stays
-i don’t think Theriot is going to be teh starter. I might be wrong but i dont care
lexmarklover - October 5, 2008
we
need a leadoff man BAD
tbizzle83 - October 5, 2008
are u thinking of gettting rid of sori?
lexmarklover - October 5, 2008
no just
moving him down. would really mind it if we sign manny but it doesnt have to be done
tbizzle83 - October 5, 2008
damn if we had manny...
lexmarklover - October 5, 2008
Well, we have a bad leadoff man....is that close enough?
santoswoodenlegs - October 5, 2008
lol

its so annoying to watch soriano hit.
For his last 3 ab i just wanted to root against him because of his approach. just terrible just terrible

Sox fan here...
With two questions:
Is Piniella’s contract extension a good thing for you guys?
When they introduce the “2008 NL Central Champions” at the home opener next year, will fans moan, boo or clap, and why? Just wondering. Honestly feel for you guys and don’t want to rub any salt in.
Cold Snowden - October 5, 2008
Of course Lou's extension is a good thing
People here are just venting. Lou has done wonderful things with this team. Nearly everyone sucked as soon as the post season started but I dont think Lou is the cause. Why he played Dome so much is a mystery but was he the cause of back to back errors in Game 2? Of course not. The Cubs played to lose every game. I don’t blame Lou.
In regards to your second question, I will die a little inside when they intro the Cubs as the Central champs.
Ryno72 - October 5, 2008
NO DEFENSE FOR THIS
What kind of team is not on the bench cheering their teammates on when they are at bat in the playoffs
Watching the game from the locker room while your teammates are supposedly trying their best to get a hit in the playoffs is inexcusable…DEFEND THAT LOU
and the Media blamed the cubs fans for not supporting them during the first home game when the CUBS themselves are not in the dugout supporting their teammates in game 3… I dont want to hear anything from any cub after seeing that
edo4cubs - October 5, 2008
Heart?
I was at the game trying to stay positive and what I didn’t get was why weren’t the Cubs players on the dugout railing during the last 4 innings when there was a legitimate chance to win,. I thought this was a team all season that celebrated together why werent they standing tall supporting each other like the great Red Sox, Yankee, and White Sox teams that I have seen the past 10 years…so crushed right now…
Spy22 - October 5, 2008
I am beyond anger. I am just sad
Just crushed.
It was a magical season and they go out in three games, like a frightened bunch of 8 year old girls who’ve never played. I don’t know who that team was, but it wasn’t the one that played the regular season.
Why do I sign on for this heartbreak? Why? I wish I knew how to quit the Cubs.
But I dont. Dammit.
Ryno72 - October 5, 2008
I came into this season with great excitement, enjoyed every game with excitement, and came into the playoffs with great anticipation and excitement. With the sweep by the Dodgers, this 2007 season now I see as a complete failure and disappointment. The 2 consecutive NL Central Division championships get erased in my mind because of this. How many playoff wins have the Pirates, Royals and Cubs had since 2004? The answer is zero. I feel like I have wasted the past 6 months.
drodd - October 5, 2008
The definition of insanity...
is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
