One question will be – how many teams still view Edmonds as a CF and will Edmonds prefer to sign with a club that views him as a CF? If that’s the case, the Cubs could have an inside track. That depends on how much the Cubs really want to get “younger and more athletic,” though, too.

I would think Edmonds wants to stay a CF. He did play a competent CF, especially given his age.
The Cubs have a decision to make. Lou has already hinted he wants Fukudome and Johnson to platoon in CF — but then, that presumes the Cubs can find a full-time right fielder either by trade or free agency.

Edmonds' defense was questioned in SD
and was given as a reason they cut bait so soon. The 2008 Fielding Bible ballots are now posted and Edmonds received not one vote for CF defense. 22 other CFs received at least a single 10th place vote. That’s another point for me suggesting that many people may not think Edmonds can carry CF, especially in larger parks.

Speaking of the Fielding Bible awards above, here's how other Cubs fared
Derrek Lee placed 6th with two 2nd place votes.
No Cub 2B received any votes.
Aramis Ramirez received 2 points, reflecting a couple 10th place votes or one 9th place vote.
Ryan Theriot received 5 points, equal with Jhonny Peralta.
Alfonso Soriano received 20 points, good for 11th place.
Kosuke Fukudome was 9th among RFs
Geovany Soto was 13th among Cs with 15 points.
Ryan Dempster was 4th among pitchers, and Rich Harden also received a few points.

…or Jim Kaat class, but he’s certainly in the top 15% or so if not a little better. I’m most impressed with his anticipation of where the ball is going to be hit and that is what has set Maddog above all else IMHO for the past 20 years.

Mike Fontenot faired well, coming in 7th.
Aramis Ramirez was the 4th worst 3B.
Jim Edmonds came in as the second worst CF. Nate McLouth had him beat by a fair amount.
I’m also noting that guys whose names have been brought up for Cubs RF acquisitions are also showing up with poor numbers, Hawpe and Abreu are the two worst RFs. Griffey’s the next worst. Raul Ibanez is the third worst LF, worse than Jack Cust.

Try living in central/northern
Sweden. Our Scandinavian colleagues work and a live a couple hours north of Stockholm. In the winter time right around the solstice, it never gets completely light during the day. Then again, 6 months later it never really gets completely dark.

great flick starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams. Pacino is a detective involved in a murder investigation set primarily in Alaska during the summer. Suffice to say, he has a little trouble getting to sleep at night…
btw, I think Williams is one of the funniest people alive, so it always impresses the hell out of me when he pulls off a serious role – and he pulls it off quite well here.

At least for the fall back now, the kids get about 2 full hours of daylight trick or treating. It was really nice here yesterday in the far NW suburbs, it cracked 70F by me. My kids now have enough candy until Valentine’s day.

The disparity is really annoying
I happen to have a lot of meetings (phone/online) with people in Europe, and most of the time the difference is 7 hours (6 hours UK). Last week it was one hour less. If the meeting was scheduled by someone in North America then the Europeans had to appear an hour earlier. If the meeting was scheduled by someone in Europe, then the North Americans had to appear an hour later. This week it’s back to “normal”.
Now, we also have meetings with India, where they never have DST, so that time difference changes from 10.5 hours to 11.5 hours. Ugh.

A couple of questions on the method...
Why would they project DeRo at 1B, but not at SS? He played one game at each spot.
Why would they project LBR at SS?
Why does LBR project to only .268/.340/.418? Are they basing it on something other than last year?
In your experience, how reliable are these numbers?

DeRosa played a decent amount of 1B in 2007...
…which is probably why that’s popping up. Fontenot played SS in Iowa in 2007 as well.
ZiPS uses either 4 or 5 years of stats, including translated minor league stats. Typically their projections will be within .070 points of OPS. They’re a bit more accurate for established major league veterans and less accurate when dealing with less experienced players.
