Tim Lincecum was an obvious choice, though I suspect if CC Sabathia had wound up undefeated in the NL (instead of 11-2), it might have gone to him.
I find myself puzzled by the vote for Justin Duchscherer.
Voting, as for ROY and MOY, was 5-3-1.

Duchscherer had a good year
2.54 ERA in 141 IP, if not for an injury, he would have been a pretty good choice for Cy Young. Don’t think it is that far out of left field.

Just to compare
Dice-K had an ERA of 2.90 in 167 IP. But he had a much better record. I would say their 3rd place votes are a push.

True, I guess.
But he was out so long, I can’t see voting for him. Plus, he started to get hit hard before his injury — 0-2, 5.54 in his last five starts.

I'm not saying it was a good pick
just don’t think it was horrible either

IP is an underappreciated part of the pie
I think the voters took it appropriately into consideration.

Hopefully these NL results are the same as the real ones
Lincecum deserves it.

I agree.
I think Tiny Tim was the best pitcher in the NL. In fact, I probably would have voted the same way as Al did.

Had CC gone undefeated....
… I might have thought about voting for him. He did lead the NL in complete games and shutouts despite being there only half a season. That’s mighty impressive.

Yeah, he was superhuman.
I’m just really impressed by what Lincecum did in terms of consistency and his insane number of Ks.

Yep

Dempster 7th
I would have put him a little higher than that. Still, it’s amazing that a guy I thought didn’t belong in the starting rotation at the beginning of the season could be such a good starter for the Cubs. I can’t think of a time in which I was more pleasantly surprised with a pitcher.

If I could have 5 starting pitchers in the game...
In no particular order…
1. Tim Lincecum
2. Johan Santana
3. Brandon Webb
4. Cole Hamels
5. CC Sabathia
My next five would include…
1. Roy Halladay
2. Roy Oswalt
3. Josh Beckett
4. Rich Harden
5. Dice K
If I could have any closer in the game…Brad Lidge
MDBNIU - November 6, 2008
I think I'd rather have Papelbon.
He’s younger, and though Lidge was 100% perfect in 2008, that’s not likely to happen again.
