Name That Cub

Since we all have had a lot of fun with the Help Me ID This Mystery Cub post made by Andre Fonseca a couple of days ago, I thought I'd start an occasional series of "Name That Cub". (This was also suggested in the comments, thanks for the idea!)

What are you looking here for? The answer isn't on mouseover

No prizes for this, just for fun.

No clues as to when this man played for the Cubs, although it probably won't be too hard for you to figure that out. I won't give you any clues as to what he did while he was a Cub, either, nor his position. Here are your only pieces of information to go on:

He didn't play very long for the Cubs He played in both the AL and NL Early in his career, he was thought of as a rising star
Have at it.

First out of the gate.

I will take the stab; Rich Nye.

Jimmie Hall

The picture is from his Topps 1970 card. He played in all of 11 games for the Cubs in 1969. I don’t know why Topps even bothered giving him a card.

+1

Jimmie Hall is my vote also.

Oh how I wish I still had my cards from 66-72. Must have had 30 each of the Nolan Ryan and Johnny Bench rookies.

DING DING DING!!!

We have a winner. It’s Jimmie Hall, who was acquired on September 11, 1969 by the Cubs, at the time desperate to stop an 8-game losing streak.

He played 11 games in 1969 and 28 in 1970. When he was a rookie with the Twins in 1963, he hit 33 HR — 4th in the AL — and finished third in ROY voting.

I kind of like the Howard brothers answer below better, though.

The (unknown) third part of the Howard brothers

With the third one, they make the ugliest sets of brothers in the history of the world.

Uglier than these guys? I think not!

I'M LISTENING TO THE #$%@IN' SONG!
BTW

Did anyone ever figure out who the mystery Cub from the other day was ? I read the whole thread when it was around 240 comments and I’m too lazy to go through it again.

Obscure Cub

Carl Hamilton per Cubs Historian

I thought it was

some photoshop job of a young Ron Cey without the ’stache.

It's Irving the Frost Malt vendor with teeth
Wow, Irving the vendor.

I didn’t think anyone else still remembered him.

Wow I remember Irving

Wasn’t he like 118 years old and still out there in 95 degree heat selling Frosty Malts with three teeth in his mouth, God Bless him.

He sure seemed that old, didn't he?
Incidentally...

… I have already received one photo for this series via email from a BCB reader. If you have any photos you’d like me to consider posting, send them to me via the email address on the left sidebar.
