Bob Howry!! Winner!!
Not Howry.

But you’re right, he does resemble Home Run Howry.

He looks like Bob Howry...

…after a two-week heroin bender.

Ooh.

That’s cold.

Thought the same thing...

lol…

my first instinct was, bob howry at 17 on a wrigely tour.

though it's not wrigley in the picture...

…i initially thought so anyway…

you're kidding right

it is Wrigley

Yes, it's Wrigley.

Look again.

I know 3Xs but

I know it’s Wrigley
I know the Torco sign was out in right
I know it was the 60s
But I don’t know who this guy is?

Was he a Bum?

Bleacher Bum?

LOL

Nope. Maybe a former pitcher, who knows?

Lefty or righty
Just losing my mind

…that’s all…recognized it, then didn’t, and did…

No Clue

But he don’t look happy

agreed. Too bad he's not smiling, 'cause if he was...

…I think he’d look exactly like “Jack”, one of Elaine’s boyfriends on a Seinfeld episode.

“Nobody beats me, because I’m the Wiz! I’m the Wiz!”
holtzman ?
Nope.

Same nose though
Yeah, there is a similarity in the look.
Except Kenny had that Evis sneer thing going
LOL

In that picture, yes.

Lee Harvey Oswald?
Nope.

He never played for the Cubs.

That's what the Man wants you to think.
Hmmm.

Come to think of it, the field does look a bit like a grassy knoll…

Rick Wrona?
Nope.

First clue: the background.

Thought about that

I see that there’s no Torco sign, but I wasn’t sure if the guy was just blocking it.

The Torco sign is on the other side of the field.

Look more closely at the bleacher walls. That’ll help.

Ah....

I was turned around a bit.

Isn't that the T-1000?

Pretty close!

But no.

Milt Wilcox
Nope.

The picture I found looked more like him.

He does have that irritated look though.

??? This might be the one that stumps us.
My God.

Just looking at the background makes me want to get a Wrigleyville in Photos book, 1914-present.

Glen Hobbie?

The suspense is killing me!
This is from the 60's based on the uniform neck

Also it looks like there isn’t a basket on the bleachers. So without guessing every 60’s player that I don’t know, anyone else with thoughts on clues to help narrow it?

I should add it could also be late 50's
Clue two.

1960’s is correct.

A great old Cubs picture

Trying to find who this is I found this great old picture. Check it out. Since it is probably copyrighted, I decided not to paste it here. Be sure to click the large version.

http://www.nytstore.com/ProdDetail.aspx?prodId=15981

It’s worth a look.

And who can identify the 7 players/coaches on the right?

You have the year but since it is spring training, they could be tough.

I can't figure out one person above.
Those must be the College of Coaches.

In ‘62 that included El Tappe, Vedie Himsl, Lou Klein, Charlie Metro, Bobby Adams, Ripper Collins, Goldie Holt and Fred Martin, so that’s probably who’s pictured there.

Who’s who, I wouldn’t have any idea. Buck O’Neil was also a coach in 1962, but he’s not in the group.

The one next to Santo looks like a coach

but a few of them look a bit younger. 3rd from the right could be Andre Rodgers but who knows on the others. Looking at who appeared for the Cubs that year, wow.

Moe Morhardt
Jim McAnany
George Gerberman
Morrie Steevens (two e’s)

Who are these guys? No wonder the team lost 101.

103, actually.

That ’62 team was awful.

That is

a cool pic. I would love a copy of that one.

that is a coolpix

kinda costly……….NY TIMES?

Uh, yeah

I just picked a frame and “added to cart” to see what I’d be looking at….$495 ~ not quite in the budget for today.

At this rate we are going to need an overflow thread.
LOL

Maybe. I’ll check later to see if you guys have guessed right.

It almost got there.

Is there a required number for an overflow thread?

Not specifically...

… usually, I just post one when the original starts running slow.

Moe Drabowski ?
Nice guess, but no.

That's a name right out of The Simpsons
I have no idea who it is

Way before my time. But if death has a face, it’s not far from that man’s.

I'll reveal the answer tomorrow if no one has guessed by then.
Darcy Fast?
Nope.

Pretty obscure guess, though.

I think you guys need another hint.

Not a pitcher.

Going Sherlock here ...

The resolution isn’t the greatest and I can’t tell if this shot includes straightaway center, but assuming it does, I don’t see the 8 foot crap screen that was there for 1963-1964, nor is there a green Astroturf tarp, which wipes out 1967-1969. It almost looks as if there are bleachers available for seating, which would suggest 1960-1962.
Now, really thinking outside the box for a moment, this guy is looks small with unmuscular (not a word, I know) shoulders, which would suggest middle infielder or pitcher. Al just said he’s not a pitcher, so let’s say he’s a middle infielder from 1960-1962.
It’s very possible I’ve wondered far astray here, but the people who played second or short from 1960-1962 are
Ernie Banks – not him.
Don Zimmer – not him
Jerry Kindall – this is who i am guessing
Tony Taylor – not him, hispanic
Grady Hatton – found pic, don’t think so
Sammy Drake – nope – black
Jim McKnight – found pic, don’t think so
Andy Rodgers – couldn’t find picture
Ken Hubbs – not him – ruled out
Mel Roach – don’t think so
Alex Grammas – found pic, don’t think so
Elder White – couldn’t find pic
Daryl Robertson – another possibility

In conclusion, my first guess is Jerry Kindall and my second guess is Daryl Robertson

I'll save you the suspense of when Al comes back....

No and No.

well crap

I just wasted 30 minutes.

But you had fun, right?

You didn’t get it.

Nice summary

I was trying the same approach. He also doesn’t look like a kid so I was ruling out rookies.

Pretty good one after all, huh, Al?
Yes, it sure is!

Still no one’s got it.

Chuck Hartenstein AKA Twiggy?

not a pitcher
Not the right chin either
alright let us try Jimmy Stewart

him

not him

cubs photo

Wow, two ugly dudes.

But not as ugly as this:

Al,

This is a family blog…

Sweet merciful God.
Geez, talk about putting the "U" in ugly!
Not Hartenstein.

Nor any of the other players in that photo.

My second and last guess

Jim Hegan who briefly played for the Cubs in 1960. Otherwise I can’t find someone who looks like him. El Tappe was close but not right.

I haven't read all of this

Don Landrum or Dick Drott or Glen Hobbie.

Nope, nope, nope
Plus, we already did Drott.
or

(I know realize it’s not a pitcher) Nelson Mathews?

Bill Plummer

last guess…………….

No, not him.
sigh...........

nice job! I’ve scoured the rosters and I haven’t a clue.

While going over this

just noticed Ron Santo wore #15 to start his Cubs career. Never knew that…

Danny Murphy...
Nope....interesting story though

Started with the Cubs as an OF, ended his career as a pitcher…

Rick Bladt
Check this picture

He played for the Cubs in ‘69. Here is a picture of him in 77 – does it resemble the guy we’re looking for?
http://cgi.ebay.com/1976-Venezuelan-Sticker-103-RICK-BLADT-Lions_W0QQitemZ220236826952QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_SM_Sports_Cards?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

Since Al's not around, I'll save all the future guesses by saying....

DING DING DING! WE HAVE A WINNER!

Rich Bladt played all of 10 games for the 1969 Cubs in June. The first appearance in the big leagues was pinch running for Billy Williams.

He was traded to the Yankees and didn’t make it back to the majors until 1975, appearing in 52 games for New York before being involved in the Paul Blair-Elliot Maddox trade to the Orioles, but he never made it back to the bigs.

That is a pretty sweet card find, 08Cubs

Thanks...

You’d be suprised how many pictures you can find on ebay that don’t show up in a google image search.

WHO? WFT

COOL GAME

Everyones already guessed my ideas

I’ll throw out the name George Hoad. He never played for the Cubs but he was my grandfather and today would have been his 100th birthday.

Cuno Barraghan
Cuno

Cuno hit a homer in his first big league at-bat! Then it was all downhill from there…..

He looks young, real young

so I’m checking the youngest ages on the rosters

Krug would be mid to late 60s

I think this has to be pre-66

The only reason I say that

is that I could (probably) name most Cubs from 65 on by sight….

Any of these guys???

Scroll Up...

Game’s over. Hahaha.

Why spoil the fun

that was awesome!

Hahaha....okay, you can keep guessing.....
OK - but can anyone identify any of the four guys in my pic?

That was taken at Phil Shmit’s – all four of the guys were apparently Cubs at the time. My grandma is on the right – she was a waitress there for 30 some years.

Jay Johnstone, Rick Reuschel, Dick Tidrow and another guy....
Not the Beatles

Sorry, this pic is way to large

if the Cubs were Beatles songs what would they sing?

Example: 1969, 2003, 2007, 2008 “Let it Be”

Jake Peavy: “Got to get you into my life”

Beatles' song by A Rod

Lady Madonna

Gotta love those Red Sox Fans!

Perhaps "Why Don't We Do It In the Road"...

…as an oblique reference to Aramis/Soriano/Geo putting one onto Waveland Ave.?

Hey Bulldog

(for Theodore)

Nice.

Maybe the organist could play “Get Back” every time Ted throws a brushback pitch.

And "Hello Goodbye" when he fans a guy on three straight.
Thank you!
Your Grandma is being hugged by Rick Reuschel....

I’m not sure of the guy in the middle top row….but he looks familiar. I think that’s Jay Johnstone on the left, but not sure the time frame works out for him.

But I am sure of Reuschel and Tidrow is the one in the front row.

Bruce Sutter

The guy next to Rick Reuschel looks like Bruce Sutter.

Near the buffett

That’s where you would find Rick Reuschel

I think that fourth guy might be Scot Thompson.

That’s the right era — that picture must have been taken in 1980.

I'd like to use a lifeline.
is that your final answer
Enough.

identify the guy, already.

It was Rich Bladt.

About two-thirds of the way down.

Please tell us already
