Derrek Lee!

2 run homer!

pardon me

Make that a THREE RUN HOMER.

D Lee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 Run HR

So I'm late....

Am I to understand Soriano is going on the DL becuase he got hurt doing his hop?

perhaps.

Calf strain is the word.

No word on the severity.

Time to order

my Matt Murton jersey…..

Just the

thought of him maybe coming back up makes me giddy. :-)

Take deep breaths....

caaaalm down! haha

It probably

won’t happen anyway.

If Soriano goes on the DL

it could for sure happen. He’ll fly over from Iowa on his Unicorn.

Is that kinda like

an NFL kicker getting hurt celebrating after an extra point?

Keep your Bill Gramatica

to yourself.

good to see aram try to go other way...
I see it Al!

Go Cubbies!

What comes after a mancrush?

DLee has been so good for so long, a crush has to stop at some point to turn into???

i believe

it’s a bro-mance.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA

You have to be kidding me.

Posted in other thread, but:

Will Ohman still sucks. Walked in two runs so far tonight.

Murtons already on his way to Chicago..
proof?
Murton, in fact, is still playing in Iowa.
well they could still bring him up and send a pitcher down

Soriano might be out for a few days though

They could bring up Murton.

But it is in fact wildly innaccurate to say he’s anywhere but… well, actually he’s in Metaire, Louisiana right now. They’re playing the New Orleans Zephyrs.

Lee is so damn clutch!

His wrist sure ain’t hurtin now!

a little cajun connection to set the table...

...and DLEE to bring them in!!

Nice to see them take advantage of a struggling Harang

man I wish last season I got a Lee jersey over a Soriano one...
that should have been

an easy decision

When in doubt
10…
im in the market

for a cleveland indians Roger Dorn jersey

Oh man!

Thats tight

Wild Thing...you make my heart sing...
eh

they didn’t have a Lee jersey at Wrigleyville Sports that fit me, so I got Soriano’s instead. Doesn’t matter though

D Lee might make a run at that MVP

I love him

Anyone up

in the Reds pen?

They hang em we bang em
They HARANG 'em
Offense clicking enough now?

n/t

Seriously...

I’m WAY impressed by Dome. I wants sure at all during ST about this guy. Now I am for sure that he is a gamer.

Murton is still playing at Iowa.

Gameday is available to keep track of whether or not he is pulled from the game.

Anybody know how to...

...get free tv online? AKA free Cubs games? Someone earlier posted this…

Are You Also Stuck Without a PC?

Because I’ve gotten every game thus far via these listings:
http://www1.myp2p.eu/index.php?part=sports

and one of these players:
http://www.sopcast.com/
http://tvants.en.softonic.com/download

with the exception of one, which I found here by locating a CSN stream here:
http://www.watvon.com/

Ahh, the digital age. :)

by KingOfTheCats

And just wanted to learn a bit more…thanks.

Dan

Just got in, what the happened to Soriano?
your better off

not knowing

Hop... skip...

and aggh there goes my calf

From what I just saw....

He hurt himself doing that very questionably unnecessary hop he does when he makes a catch. But I just tuned in as well….

No way!

Not doing that dumbass skip when he’s making a catch?? Sometimes, we are a living, breathing joke!!

If I was under oath

thats what I’d have to testify to. I didnt see it live or antything. I just saw a reaply a few minutes ago and I shit you not….thats what it looked like to me.

Thanks for the update
Calf strain

3rd out, 1st inning. Did his little hop thing and came up lame.

No word on severity. Immediately pulled, didn’t hit.

Stop doing the dam hop!

It’s my fault. I take the blame. I was there when he hurt himself last year… and I was there tonight.

DAMN YOU SACKMAN!

haha. but from what i’ve seen around here a few people might ask you to show up at the next game he starts.

calf strain

not sure of severity…

He tried

to tell Dome how to hit and Dome decked him.

He called Dome

‘Mr. Stinky Fish Face” and Dome whacked him one.

Lee is a little taller that Fontenot

I just saw the replay of the homer on Gameday and Lee looks hilarious bending down to “high” five Fontenot. Fontenot looks like he could be Lee’s kid.

Darren Baker, is that you?
hahah I was thinking the same EXACT thing too!
Of course,

Lee is just a LITTLE better than JT Snow.

i dunno

I still think we should have kept Hee Shop Choi

If he would have gotten regular playing time

he would have been a lot better than Lee….

haha really??

or are you being sarcastic like me?

Sorry

that line just seems to get used a lot around here sometimes

I also just saw the replay on Gameday

I was thinking the exact same thing as well. Looked like he was high-fiving the bat kids.

The bat boy was taller than Fontenot

seriously

Seriously...

Dunn = 3TO… He is dying to strike out, throw some freaking strikes

HEY!

It was free beanie night? Damn it. I would have gone to the game if I would have known.

Game plan on Dunn

Demps will not let Dunn pop one into the stratosphere that gets carried out on thejet stream.

But you can't bring the tying run to the plate if you don't have to.

Solo shots don’t win 2 run ball games.

Its only the 6th.

Plenty of time for a solo shot endingh up being the difference.

Which means plenty of time for more Cubs runs, too.

You can’t if and but things. Manage the moment when it comes to pitching.

Dumb

So you play the same whether it is the 1st or the 9th? Not in my book.

Again, agree to disagree.

But, what you’re saying is you’d pitch to a guy in the 1st, but pitch around him in the 9th? I’m talking a 2 run game here, not a 1 run game.

I think you probably have a more civilized dialogue in you than “dumb”.

Pat and Ron are right...

Throw strikes Demp. You’re up 2 runs.

hes afraid of Dunn

not sure why, hes batting .167

Disagree

Dunn just needs to half hit a ball and it is out tonight. Pitching around him is wise.

See reply below...

you’re using video game logic, not real baseball logic.

Wake up

You are using cliche logic, not thinking logic. Walking Dunn, not only keeps him from homering off you, but now the bottom of the Reds order has to drive him in. On a day when the wind is blowing out, and the over is 11, that is a good choice.

I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on this.

But, I really disagree.

that'll work

DP

Oops

I mean, good job walking Dunn….

Isn't Dunn

always among the league leaders in walks?

Yeah

He takes tons of pitches… so if you throw strikes you can get up 0-2 all day

that did NOT last long
Dempster's stuff

looks nasty

If at first you don't succeed...

man, Dusty’s teams all look the same.

lol no kidding

7 pitch inning, 5 of them to Dunn

bakolicious
gabor-licious

n/t

Cards up 3-1 on BrewCrew

Looper should be ready to start melting down by the time we face the birds

wow

i dunno if it is the Cards streaking or the Brewers sucking

Both

Gotta root for the St. Cards tonight,.

little of both

brewers have been on a bit of skid- Braun not playing tonight

And

Ankiel is still on fire.

or on roids

n/t/

Bring more of those rumors to light

and see if he tanks again, but he has been killing it.

And

Ankiel is still on steroids.

Fixed.

So is everyone else

I’m pretty much over the roid stuff. Let’em juice. I dont care.

Whos going to have more ROTY votes?

Geo or Fuku?

Geo

Voters don’t like voting for Japanese Pros

Ichiro?
Ichiro

Ichiro also won MVP that year. With a season like that you are gonna win ROTY even if you played pro ball overseas.

I dont know

but those kids in AZ are going to give Dome a run for his money.

ROTY

I think Geo gets more votes. Dome may have better numbers but voters are always weird about voting for players that aren’t really in their “first” professional season.

does anybody have home and road splits on dome?

small sample size, but he seems better at home

Longoria

looks like a keeper too..

Not if

he keeps booting balls at 3rd

421 Home BA...... 240 Road BA

Good call

So far...

...Dome is:

.421/.542/.737 at home
.240/.345/.240 on the road.

Just had to out-do me...

Jerk. : )

that was a low blow for sure

Seriously

I mean, who looks at OBP or SLG? Nobody.

Geo with a nice walk
nice AB

by GS

Come on Pie!!
felix just looks terrible at the plate
gah!

come on Pie!

Neifi never looked this bad
haha

yeah he did

Can we afford 100 more AB's like tonight?
Or, you could say...

that Pie’s ceiling is far superior than Reed Johnson’s and ask…

Can we afford NOT to see 100 more AB’s?

Here is my take

and it might be unfair or under researched. But to me so far Pie looks like the spoiled kid who gets to play becuase his dad is the coach. Therefore he doesnt look like he tries too hard. Johnson looks like the kid who wants to play in the MLB and he busts his ass every play. I like Reed….

What I was trying to say is...

Reed is no kid. He’s peaked.

Scoreboard

Doesn’t care about “ceilings” or “potential”. The kid refuses to shorten up his swing and is trying to emulate Soriano. If you dont send him down you are telling him thats a good idea. Clearly the coaches arent able to get to him.

So prospects magically become everyday players?

n/t

and prospects magically become busts?
Just sayin...

He’s got major league defense. Let’s get that out of the way. In a position you want a lot of defense.

His bat…he kills it when he’s in AAA. He comes up here and doesn’t have a clue. What’s your prescription for that?

I think it’s a lot of at bats early in a season, to see what we really have.

I agree

and I am not saying send him down tonight. But I am saying we are giving him at bats and we are seeing what we have at this point. And it is underwhelming to understate it. I realize I am just a fan, but from my perspective it doesnt even look like he is trying to adjust. It looks like he got by in AAA hitting mediocre fastballs, really, really well. And if you don’t do something, why should he stop? He is a big leaguer, probably partying his guts out. Send him down, let him stare at an Iowa cornfield for a few weeks and see if he will come back with more willingness to go for contact over power.

I’d take one of those Ichiro/Fukudome bailout running start swings over his loopy uppercut from his heels.

He needs ML AB's period...nothing can be gained by a trip to AAA

...If were playing winning baseball, which we are, he should be playing period. End of discussion

We've done the back and forth thing.

It’s time for sustained playing time.

I agree, if he keeps this up, we should probably look elsewhere. But the 22 at bats he’s had this year is not enough to tell yet.

If Pie could hit like Soriano...

...with his defense he could be the best CF in baseball this season. And looking at how he’s had success in the minors, he is a hitter in the style of Soriano. Trying to turn him into an Eric Patterson type of hitter is foolish. That’s not his skillset.

That's a good point, too.

There’s 3 positions on the field where you’d forfeit offense for defense.

Luckily, Pie plays one of them.

Does he really have

the power of Soriano, though? Pie strikes as more of a Carl Crawford type, maybe hitting for bit less average, but the same power and speed ceilings.

Soriano didn't have Soriano's power...

...at his age. Power tends to bloom later, especially home run power. What you’re looking for out of a player Pie’s age is doubles and triples, which Pie is certainly capable of providing. As a player reaches 25-27, those doubles should start to blossom into home runs.

I see.

Let’s hope we see Pie’s power blossom.

Thats the question

Can he hit like Soriano, because if he cant he is Corey Patterson.

And the only way you can answer that question...

...is to let him play.

Look, it’s entirely possible that Pie doesn’t adjust to the league, or doesn’t fulfill his entire potential as a baseball player. But there is absolutely no way you can be certain of that where Pie is at in his development as a ballplayer.

If the Cubs were not ready to put Pie out there and find out if he can be a big-league ballplayer, then they should have gone out and gotten someone better than Reed Johnson.

The good news is, Pie’s defense is good enough to where he’s not an absolute 0 if you let him play through his struggles at the plate.

man, you are truly ignorant of the CF position....

a great CF does not have to have a great bat….CF is a defensive position….DID you see the catch he made running into the bricks?

Demp still in?

alrighty then

Any chance we call Patterson up

and go with DeRo in LF. I would say no, since we already have glut of infielders and DeRo has played the position on an extremely limited performance.

Demp has had some good sacrafice bunts this year
He has to get eight of them down...

...before Lou will give him the green light to try and steal. He’s a man with a mission.

he needs what, 5 more in a row?
That's hilarious.

Whether it’s true or not.

Len and Bob have mentioned it on multiple occasions.

I have no reason to think they’re lying about it.

I thought you were joking.

It’s still funny.

I can see why.

I think it’s funnier being true.

I cant wait to see him slide head first

in his jacket

Just a good pitch.
Anyone up in the BP

?

Bako singles

gotta get a DP here or Demp’s out I think..

Murton batting in the 8th in NOLA.

0-2 count.

He’s 0-3 tonight.

he's just thinking of his promotion!
Pop out to catcher to end the 8th for Murton.

0-4 tonight.

Marmol

to the rescue

crap a walk

Dempster GET Corey out!

Dempster's done!

C’mon Lou!

Cedeno for OF?

Any chance they try Ronny out there first?

Not in left.

They’d try Johnson first. More likely, with Johnson getting time in CF, they’ll send down a pitcher, likely Marshall, and bring up Murton, should they have to DL Soriano.

If it's just a few days...

...you’re likely to see Fontenot/Cedeno platooning in the infield a bit, with DeRosa seeing time in the outfield.

Yeah

that’s probably true, DeRo out there. I know they thought about Cedeno for CF but who knows.

LSA for Demp.

Solid outing, can’t expect more from the guy we had in the #4 spot.

He's pitching like a 2
Yup.

Just really pleased with him.

Yeah.

He’s really pitched well. I didn’t expect this at all.

Korey vs Marmol

Korey should have some pretty funny looking swings against Marmol’s stuff.

waited too long

could cost the game

bad decision

ouch

Dumb dumb dumb
crap crap crap
Marshall up

in the pen

Well if there's one guy we want pitching in this position...
K

K right here would be huge

Fonty!

nice…

Nice play

need a K here

or a double play
Ground ball will work
whats going on??

and who the hell is this Kepplinger guy!

Keppinger is actually one of their best prospects.

And Fontenot had a great play to keep the game reachable.

Fonty-yes!

Ok boys, another Dusty DP coming up?

Marmol

GIVE DEMP HIS WIn!

3-6-3

DP ..inning over…whew

Nice

That’s why you have D-lee instead of some stiff over there

Naked butt girl

Singing the 7th inning stretch

who?

sounded terrible

Misty May

beach volleyball player

thanks...

very easy on the eyes..

Wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers.

Just sayin.

Oh come on guys....

she looks kinda like Gail Fisher

Ohhh!

Gail Fischer…yummy as well

Gail Fisher???

the one who looks like a man??

She does?

I dont think so. Which Gail are you thinking of?

Last year (or two years ago?)

On this blog, there was an ad that ran for a couple of weeks with a picture of a pro beach volleyball player (from behind). Some were aghast that such an ad would appear on a “family” blog. Others said “Woo-hoo!” (It wasn’t under Al’s control, anyway).

She came to be known as “naked butt girl” or simply nbg for short. If it wasn’t Misty May, at least her name was prominently featured in the ad.

May

has a monsterly huge bubble butt. I wonder if it was her. Could have been Walsh. Still have the pic? I know most of the VB butts on tour.

?

I’m watching the Reds telecast and listening to Gameday Audio…Naked Butt Girl???

?
Misty May

I have no idea who she is.

Pro Volleyball player

I think..

Yes

My wife was on the Olymic team with her. YUM YUM!

Agree...

your wife pro?

Not any more

She was on the US Olympic team in Colorado Springs for 2 years then left to play Pro indoor. SZhe was on the Chicago Thunder for 3 years before the league folded.

That's really cool
She loved it

Those girls had a ton of fun, thats for sure. But not much of a following for indoor volleyball. Most of the girls went overseas or beach.

That's

so awsome…never saw the Thunder…i’ve seen beach…really cool..

The Thunder was one of 6 indoor teams of the USPV. The were around in 1998-2002. They spent their sponsorship money too quickly and the league had to fold.

Beach is where its at though.

Where did

Thunder play?

They played at Allstate, St Xavier and Loyola.

HUDGE

D-Lee MVP imo

man some bad pitches by Carlos

but good fielding to back him up

DP!!!

Lee and Marmocoming up bigl!!!!

Conflict of Interest?

Doesn’t her husband still play for the Marlins?

Did she just say...

buy me some penis and cracker jack?

If so...

maybe it’s because her husband still plays for the Marlins.

I love DLee

He is amazing

Defense coming up

big again today.

Them plays

are the diff between this year and last.
Make a mistake, then recover and shut the door again.

Go Cubbies!!

Strike Zone...

Can I say “shit garbage” on here? The strike zone is shit garbage.

well, you just did.

looks like you can!

I disagree

I think it is garbage shit..

Potato! Pahtato!
Common Mistake

But don’t worry it happens all the time

Strike zone, for both teams, has been beyond awful
39,130

paid attendence

FWIW

David Wright has 5 RBI….so far…

She shouldve worn her volleyball uniform.
haha..

that would of been too cool..

This interview with Misty is awful....

Please end the guest conductor…outside of former players…please.

They should just have Ron do it every game
Da Coach

is still my fave..

Just ditch the interview.

Sometimes its brutal. Pickler is still my fav.

lol
I still have it on tivo.

“Do they sell milk at the stadium?”
“If they had a team called the Pickles, they’d be my favorite.”

Bob had to

be sitting there going wtf?

He was tryign not to laugh.

Specially when she asked of she could keep the popcorn they gave her

she's a cutie...

so natural…

I think shes hilarious. I AAAAAlmost went to see her at Cubby Bear North just for laughs.

But then you found $10?

I kid, I kid.

As a matter of fact

It was the Saturday night after the Cubs clinched last year and I left that friday night to drive to Cincy….so I missed the concert. boo hoo haha

I was there too!

It was awesome down there. Sea of blue.

What a blast huh!

I went Saturday and Sunday then hit the Monday night football game. I was a wreck for the next 4 days. lots-a-beer

Haha

we had 8 guys for Saturday-Sunday in the seats right behind the left field foul pole.

Saturday we all wore white t-shirts with big, blue “W”s on them.

We were popular with the townsfolk.

And yes, lots-of-beer. Thank god for German towns like Cincinnati.

That Sunday

The left field seats emptied after the 3rd inning if I remember. Wond if you guys had anything to do with that? haha It was like a home game. I was loving it. We had student half price seats 4 rows behind home plate. They were selling the student half price seats right online. I mean….I was..a student…a few years ago. Half price is half price!

Derek Lee

is awesome this year. After seeing the Cubs in person over the weekend, he seems like somewhat of a leader this year too. Thats a good sign

A-ram

Awake now, Aramis???

A Ram!

and he hustled to boot!!

The only time Rammy doesn't hustle is when he's told not to.

He’s been told the past few years, especially late in the year, to cool it on running everything out b/c of his leg injuries.

He looks svelte this year, how much weight did he lose?

Not sure

I’m buying that.

He wasn't running in Pittsburgh

When he hit the double he admired it for a bit before taking off

Reading material

Ramirez sometimes has to go easy when his legs bother him and his critics have at times questioned his hustle.
from:
http://cbs2chicago.com/sports/cubs.aramis.ramirez.2.658163.html

Nothing could be further from the truth, says teammate Ryan Theriot.

“I knew he was hurting and he never said anything and he’s not going to say anything. He’s not somebody who’s going to make excuses,” Theriot said.

“He’s just not that type of person. ... He plays hurt and he plays with nicks.”

All well and good

But he still needs to run instead of watching the deep flies… a lot of people do it, but it always drives me nuts

You do not see that

he plays with his injuries…..legs….and that the Cubbies want him to play….that means he doesn’t run hard on sure outs….Rami is the ONE Cub we do not want to lose….

That's silly.

So they want him to save his legs but when he sees that the ball isn’t going out he runs his ass off trying to get on base? Doesn’t seem to bother his legs when he does that. The guy loves to admire his shot plain and simple. He needs to just take off running and get on base. If the ball is caught it’s caught.

Rammy...

joining the hit parade…

You better call your broker...

...cause we just got insurance!!

Aram actually ran out of the box!

I’m shocked Great job Aramis!

Ran? Aramis?

C’mon, this might be our year!

Baseball weirdisms...

both the Cubs AND the Sox have an A-Ram on their team this year…

...

As long as they don’t both have an “Ozzie Guillen”, I’m okay with it…

aww boo!!

make em pay DeRO!

Nice

DeRO!!

can you say

Insurance???

another terrible strike call on geo
DeRo ALMOST jacks one!
Pile it on!!

Never can have enough insurance.

yes yes!

7-4!

D Ro your my ...

...oh wait that was copyrighted. Umm, you’re good.

:)

I only have DeRo My Hero copyrighted

You can use “DeRo, you’re my hero”.

DMH

Slow down, guys!

I need a save from Woody for my pool!

haha me too!

STOP SCORING!

DeRo always seems to come through

when the guy ahead of him is intentionally walked. I wish I knew where I could find the stats.

Big insurance run
PIe...

any bets that he makes contact?

Any bets that Reed Johnson isn't used?
are they changing pitchers?
I say he fouls one off, does that count?
I, sir, will take that bet

I will slap myself once with force on the forehead if said outfielder does not make contact this at-bat.

What about a walk?
Please reciprocate

n/t

The kid has had 5 at bats in a week

and has to then face Aaron Harang. As they said over at the Cub Reporter “Good luck with that” You have to give him some steady at bats. He has hit at every level including spring training

Join the revolution!
Every level except the majors

He is up to 200 major league at bats and has 50 Ks, and racked up a .211 average, a .265 OBP, and a .317 SLG. And is this swinging for the fences at least getting some dingers? No. Only 2 in 200 at bats.

Tough to do much in 200 at bats spread over 2 seasons.

Especially when a lot of them are PH AB’s.

We’re calling for sustained at bats here. Get comfortable.

And he is probably reading post's like yours....

he doesn’t stand a chance if he doesn’t play…...

3.2.1. Contact

Great show. I loved the Bloodhound Gang. “If you’ve got a crime, we’ve got the time….we’re the Blood Hound Gang” HAHAH

I am watching in Yahoo Sports style
pie k's again

sigh..

lol pie

could set K record if he played every day

I am down for a whiff
Took a while...

But I finally got my avatar to load, pic from last year’s Jackie Robinson game…

pie in line up

tomorrow?

Tough night for Felix

but you have to let him play through it, hitting in the 8th hole, IMO.

Cubs fans are "full of venom"

according to Brennaman. Man I wish I could get WGN radio so I wouldn’t have to listen to this.

Brennaman sure is blowing things a little out of proportion, eh?
he should just retire...grumpy old man.
This is the young one!
my bad.....he must be grumpy too.
of the national announcers

i have him over morgan and mccarver every day of the week

Game at Hell Stadium...

Who’s calling it?

I say McCarver and Billy Packer. I realize Packer doesn’t do baseball, but he can’t do baseball better than he does basketball.

Aren't they though?

A lot of booing for simply bringing out the situational lefty.

It's a little too much...

letting a few speak for the group for me. Unfair representation of “all Cub fans”

Even if they are

they have a 100 year right to be. LOL

I tried to get it on line at WROK but it quit on me in the 3rd inning
Brennaman is full of ____

according to me

wow thats gotta be tough

especially when you are full of underscores..

Someday

there will be a cure… You can help.

Boy - that replay of Fonty at second...

there have been some SERIOUS web jem plays on BOTH Chicago teams today!

how crazy is it driving Dusty that Dunn

is taking walks?

lol

he’s a “Clogger”!

haha

he might swallow his toothpick

dusty

he’ll be giving dunn the hit and run sign any day now…

not THAT time!
I bet Dunn

hasn’t had 3 BBs in one game in a while… I bet Dusty’s pretty pissed.

3TO 3TO 3TO
All praise...

...Rob Deer!

No doubt!

He’s the Jesus of 3TO guys

His 1991 season is probably my favorite line score of all time.

Hit .179/.314/.386 in 448 at-bats. .179!

that was

one nasty pitch

Dusty's proud now!!

Dunn strikes out!

carlos is pitchin great but I really worry we are going to

burn his arm out with all these appearances

That's a worry for the whole 'pen.

Lots of innings already.

I hear

that Marmol guy is alright.

Perhaps better than that!
BB's son

just hit a grand slam. He sounds so proud and excited.

ball two was strike 3

stuck out the side!

Strikes out the side!
3K for Marmol

nicely done

Hells Bells will pitch in the ninth
Unofficial BCB Poll Question

Am I a loser for getting my play by play here because it’s about a minute faster than cbs.sportsline.com and I’m too cheap to buy mlb.com? Ed note: live in PA, can only get WGN when I’m driving west or north of my house….

Not at all.

Carry on.

Yes

you are a loser… that’s why you fit in so nicely.

I hope not

Cuz that would make me one too.

thanks!

good to have peeps. and not just during Easter….

Peeps

are best when microwaved… I’m just saying.

Peeps

My grandmother loves those things… I’m guessing that’s why I’m so F’d up

I think it's fine......

The only problem is you see the reactions and you’re not always going to be able to figure out what happens for a minute or two.

The more convoluted the play, the less likely it’s going to be explained as well. I think most people just assume everyone is watching / listening. With that said, you can usually ask and get a few responses.

I actually follow college baseball through a blog run by a Gamecock website. It’s similar to following the Cubs on here. If I don’t suck for doing that, you don’t suck for doing this.

"Never gonna win it all

with a Reed Johnson playing CF”

Certain BCB poster.

Yes, clearly we should judge him on two weeks of play...

...rather than using the entirety of Johnson’s career as a ballplayer in order to gauge his value.

Who said that?

And, it’s a single. You’re quite the ledge jumper, aren’t you?

Reed’s been hot, hope he keeps it up in case Pie doesn’t work out in the next 2 months or so.

johnson is a decent backup OF, rather have him than Coco
He's a fine backup.

But there’s a difference between a good backup and a good starter for an entire season.

Hmm

I gotta go Coco on that one, if money isn’t considered…

Who knows

He could have another .319 / .390 / .479 type year again. Unlikely, but championship teams get career years from at least one or two guys

Crock-O-

Cedeno

It makes me feel so confident

whenever I see Dusty Baker managing the other team. Whenever they pan to him or show him, the good feelings rush over me.

THE RIOT!

GONE!

scrappy power
How hard IS it blowing out?!?!
It was actually

a line drive bout 4 rows deep.

cwyers! you gotta love that!

your boy goes yard!!

He's got to stop trying to swing for the fences...

...every plate appearance and just focus on putting the ball in play.

Just tryin not to clog the bases.
Nah, he should swing for the fences everytime

thats his “natural” swing. And he could turn into Mark McGwire some day if he can reach his ceiling.

That was one scrappy HR.
how many runs for an official save?

Not sure if we’ll see Woddy tonight…

Woody's sitting down.

n/t

err umm...

Woody

3 run lead......

or 3 innings, I think.

Someone here could probably state the rule a bit better than I can.

HAHA

Everyone fell over

Isn't it fitting

That we got an insurance run off Affeldt…no wait, that’s AFLAC…

That was scrappy!!
To be fair, that's an at'm ball

on any other night. Hit hard, but that would have knocked Dunn on his cushion.

lol!

I can picture Dunn on a folding chair…

There goes the save....
holy delay, Batman!

Theriot!!!

And now I know

that the apocalypse is upon us.

I want to thank The Riot for hitting the over

in tonights game. I am now slightly richer.

I got it earlier......

with the Orioles / Jays game.

Although I have Steve Trachsel to thank for my good fortunes. Somehow, betting the over against Steve Trachsel is never a difficult decision for me.

It's like the sun rising.

It’s tradition.

Hahaha

Next time you have a lock, PASS IT ON!

Is that you?

Pete Rose? ;)

Shhh....

Dont tell.
We might need to start a daily gambling fan post.

Games threads are

must more tolerable without all the GD haters and chicken littles.

No Soriano playing.

No Soriano hating.

Unfortunate it had to come to that, but you’re right, it is nice with a little less hate.

Yeah

its always better when the Cubs have the lead.

Cotton Candy

I wonder if he bought that from that Jimmy Rollins Look-alike that sells the cotton candy

Dusty's worst nightmare

returning to Wrigley…

another awful, awful strike call
Not to repeat a common refrain........

but I wonder why Lou doesn’t look at Fukudome and see Ichiro, in the sense that he’s going to be on the basepaths all the time and might be worth having bat before Soriano / Lee / Ramirez.

Even acknowledging the fact Lou will likely leave Fonzie in the 1-hole, we could at least bat him second before D-Lee and A-Ram (note – I also hate those nicknames).

Not nearly as fast as Ichiro.

Not gonna be a 200 hit player. Maybe a 200 walk player :)

Lou doesn't want to bunch his best hitters together at the top of the lineup.
nothing pissed me off more

than when lou moved dome into the 2 spot in the lineup. We are scoring runs and winning games. Why change?

Yeah that one game he hit second

and we lost 3-5 to the Phillies. I mean that was magical!

Ummmm.......

why not? Or are you just being a bit facetious?

I'm not.

Front loading our lineup is problematic. Check out the bottom of the lineup if Dome moves up…

5: D-Ro
6: Soto
7: Riot
8: Pie
9: Pitcher

See the problem?

the problem is????
Sori going down might change that fast....

Dome lead off?

Although...

Ichiro- .378 career OBP- Fukudome’s will be higher

St Louis 4 Mil 1 8th inning

I thought the stinkbirds were supposed to suck this year?

They and the White Sox

are definitely the early season surprises.

Don't forget the Royals
they will

it’s a long season. their suckitude will manifest.

I think the problem is...

Front loading our lineup is problematic. Check out the bottom of the lineup if Dome moves up…

5: D-Ro
6: Soto
7: Riot
8: Pie
9: Pitcher

See the problem?

Crap, meant to reply to above comments about Dome moving up.
LOL @

Those damn ‘Worlds Most Interesting Man’ commercials

Those are awesome.
On his organ donor card

he lists his beard.

Wuertz has looked better....
Wuertz is looking like crap!
Why Wuertz here?

Bob Gibson could give up runs with this wind. Wuertz needs a better situation right now. Gotta bring in someone else here.

And 4 straigh balls for the walk DOUBLE CRAP
4 pitch walk

to PAUL BAKO??

Maybe we WILL see Woody?
Lou yanked Wuertz
how the hell

do you walk balko

put the f-ing ball on

a tee for bako. who cares, just dont walk him

you have Wuertz for a last name
At least

two of those pitches (maybe even three) would have been called strikes had they been thrown by a Reds pitcher tonight.

Haha, anyone else catch lou mouth "f***
when he walked out of the dugout
I think I caught a...

“give me the f’in ball”

Goodbye Mr. Wuertz

Lou is not happy with you at the moment.

Wuertz

pack your bags a one way trip to Iowa is waiting for you.

already?
Sure

if Sori goes on the DL.

If Sori goes on the DL...

...then we have no need to send anyone down.

Lou was pissed

for good reason

The walk was inexcusable.

The HR is passable. I think it was the wrong situation to bring a struggling pitcher in. That wind is really blowing out.

Ryan Theriot homered...

...which tells you all you need to know about the wind.

'Welcome to the Jungle'

is Woods entrance song?

or shoudl i say

the one wrigley chooses to play when he comes in

bad....makes no sense.
Michael Wuertz

is in Lou’s doghouse, big time.

Patterson getting MANY boooos
Wuertz was great in spring training

..but sucks now. Hill sucked in spring training but sucks now. See a pattern? Me neither.

Not on the hill reference?
No # 42 for Patterson?
maybe

He didn’t want to disgrace it?

tori hunter called

and told him he wasnt black enough to wear it

Seemed like MLB wanted to cut down

on how many guys wore #42 after EVERYONE did last year.

Still

It would be nice to see some white guys do it

Swisher did

in the White Sox game today. Good for him!

Where did you get that idea?

Selig said recently he would be happy if the whole league wore it

Just seems like 50% less guys wearing it this year.

Shine off the rose?

Would LOVE to see EVERYONE wear it.

Maybe

the league should just make everyone wear it on Jackie day.

good observation

didn’t notice that….what’s up with that? strange dude, that corey.

Kerry Wood is awesome

for throwing high fastballs to Korey

KKKKKKKKorey!

staring

Game!

Thanks for a fun chat guys! See you when I see you.

CUBS WIN!!!!

Lincoln Park Trixies for EVERYONE!!

Photobucket
Wow

I think I’m in love…two smokin’ hot chicks…and Cub fans, too!

By "smoking," do you mean abominations?

Sorry, had to put a joke in

You have to be careful though.

Some of the Trixies are Cub fans. The other half are there to get a tan.

Kerry's one violent man on the mound.

Just sayin’

CUBS WIN!!!!!
FLY IT, CHICAGO!!!

Hey Hey, Holy Mackeral!
No doubt about it,
the Cubs are on their way!

They’ve got the hustle
they’ve got the muscle
the Chicago Cubs are on their way!!!

Redbirds smokin Brewers
go cubs go!
gawd that song

is SOOOOO cheesy haha

And yet,

We all love it!

The B96 mix is just that much better.

And by better, I mean that I feel embarrassed for the people who actually made the mix.

hahah i gotta hear that.

about as cheesy

as Gail Fisher’s manly smile haha

this smile?

Photobucket

That's Kerry Sayers
I will bet you $100

on that.

That must be

an old picture of Gail. Her hair is not that blonde any more. Sorry.

Sayers

Photobucket

I like Kerry

but I’m not a fan of Gail’s.

I used to have ...

a big crush on her…and linda kohlmyer too…lol..

linda is

the lotto ball babe btw…

I'll admit it.

I like the song.

me too and if youve been there after a win to sing it...it gives you the chills.
as much as I hate that song...

I am usually drunk enough after a game to scream it if the Cubs win.

which probably explains

why you think Gail Fisher looks “yummy”...

Could be.

I’m usually pretty sauced by the time she does the postgame…

well there ya go then....
I like it too
alright!

And no Cueto this series, looks like!

GO CUBBIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
call me

minnesotafan2

golf clap for Dempster tonight..

hung tough when he didnt have his A game…

Wood 12 strikes, 3 balls

Really, really good

Wood was very good

and Bobby Jenks 3-pitch save today…

BOTH Chicago teams have awesome closers.

Wow.

Is this you, bullish?

I forgot if your name is bluelou or bluemike

Wood's found his calling

Fireman

I'm going to watch the postgame...

...because I want to hear about Soriano, and I really am hoping to avoid the Dusty coverage. I could really care less.

Can you post if you hear anything concrete
You mean you don't like to hear

how tough the Chicago media is, how biased it was against Baker, and how he somehow – almost miraculously- came out stronger from it?

Baker needs to stop doing anything, for the rest of his life.

I really don't give a crap either way.

Baker can do whatever he wants to – it only affects me to the extent that he affects the Cubs by what it is he does. So I care about his management of the Reds to the extent that the Reds are in contention, and I care about his in-game management whenever he plays the Cubs. That’s about it.

Nice win

The offense stepped up.

Hopefully they win again tomarow, my first game of the season.
I have my Zambrano jersey ready.

Sori having an MRI right now

Results late tonight or by tomorrow morning.

"It'll be awhile..."

...I think he commented. Seems the beat writers are more interested in Lou’s opinion of the hop than in figuring out who Lou is going to play in left the rest of the series. And now they’re asking about Lee and DeRosa.

Think it's time for the Big Murt to come into action?
No reason to go through all the effort...

...if Soriano’s only going to be out three days. Especially since I have no idea who goes down if Murton gets called up without a corresponding DL move (Mike Fontenot, probably).

"Hopefully a few days"

says Lou

Lou just said

hes getting an MRI right now, results later or in the morning

NOt tonight

results in the morning.

Re: Murton

Ack, they cut away just as the reporters asked about Opie. He said “I dunno” before they cut away.

And they cut away...

...right as Lou is asked about Murton. So that we can hear what Dan Plesac thinks about hitting. What the hell.

that sounds about right
I know! ugh!

Keystone’s gotta know if it’s time to get his jersey out!

HA!

I’ll buy one if he comes up. I need a road jersey

ah, I thought you said once that you already had one.

n/t

naw

I want one. I have a #9 Cub jersey. You all told me to wait on the Murton jersey cuz when he gets traded I can get one half price.

This might be a good thing for the Cubs.

Soriano obviously isn’t hitting well(for some reason)and might be out for a little while. This might bring up Murton, which can hopefully boost his trade value, and give Soriano some time off; maybe his leg was bugging him this whole time, and it took a strain for him to get time off.

Or, this just sucks.

My $0.02

well with the way soriano has been hitting

this wont exactly hurt us, assuming of course alfonso was going to step it up anytime soon

Oh my.

I finally just saw a replay of the Cajun Silent T Wonderboys double play. Damn. That was sweet.

Heh, I was in DC to see the Cubs play last July

Fontenot scored, and I screamed ‘Go Tigers!”

He looks up towards my direction, nods his head, and lips “F**k yeah” and goes back into the dugout. I thought it was awesome

Fan-effing-tastic story!

Every time I hear someone say “F**k yeah” I always think of Team America. Every time.

certainly a layman comment here..

..but I cant fathom that injury could be too serious…

at least that is what I am hoping. Its certainly concerning that he pulls leg muscles so easily..

I know

who is he, Sammy Sosa? Hopefully Soriano doesn’t cough weird and spontaneously combust.

You have to figure that...

...this injury was going to happen at some point – I can’t think that his hop was the sole cause. So you really have to wonder about how the injury is going to heal going forward.

It was that damn hop!

he hopped right into one of the new drainage holes. gezz

I didn't see the game...

...did Soriano’s goofy leap to catch a routine fly really cause his calf strain?

Thats what it looked like to me.
Did he walk off...

...with a severe limp, or just minor?

I heard

he needed to be carried off/helped off

The Riot helped him off the field.

n/t

He used Ryan Theriot as a crutch.
If he couldn't put any...

...weight on it, that is not a good sign. Calf muscles can be touchy because they are so packed together, especially if it’s a lower calf strain by his Achilles.

Depends on the grade tear, but I would bet you wont see him for at least a few weeks.

sounds like a repeat

of last year with him

its hard to admit, but yes.
The first of many for him I assume

Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his left hip

Bah, no way

I wanted the Cubs to trade for him so bad. Shows how much I know about general managing

Murton won CSN's poll

of who should be playing left field if Sori is on the DL.

I'm very afraid of...

...seeing a lineup with Theriot, Fontenot and Johnson in it in the near future.

How come?
Um, because none of them are very good?
Well, here's some good news

The Cubs are officially tied with the Brewers for the Wild Card spot. All they need to do now is win more games than them. Their future is in their hands.

Well...

....I’d brace myself, because if Soriano is out for a while, you wil be seeing some of that.

A buddy of mine told me Pie looked just horrible tonight. I guess one AB had him whiffing on 3 straight fastballs down the middle. That ain’t a good sign.

Fonzie is starting....

to remind me of a former injury prone left fielder!!ring a bell?

the other one didnt k as much

or have a gun #18???

FWIW Really impressed with Soto

tonight and recently.. The kid is going to be special

According to the Cubs website

Soriano is day-to-day. That’s probably pre-MRI though, so take it for what it’s worth.

There is no way...

...they can put a time frame on how long he may be out without the MRI results to determine the grade tear he has.

Best case is probably 7-10 days, but it could be several weeks for a more severe tear.

soriano : day to day

but aren’t we all?

I read earlier today Murton batting .400....

w/ no extra base hits

Dempster over Harang; DeRosa and DLee Harass Harang

Maybe Dempster actually is a good starting pitcher, he pitched well enough (though not that great) to get the victory over Harang. Winning is the bottom line.. It’s a shame all Dempster got was a no-decision last week in Pittsburgh, going 7 strong innings, when he pitched better than he did last night. I’m sorry I doubted you, Ryan. DeRosa showed his versatily by playing LF and hit a 2-run homer. DLee got three hits altogether including a 3-run HR off the Reds ace. It’s nice to have a guy like DeRosa, who can hit well and play 2B, 3B, and LF. DLee continues to amaze with his renewed power and slick glove. 8-5 is not bad through 13 games.
