....regarding Blanco bunting with the pitcher coming up.
Lou looked a little pissed when he came back to the dugout, but I think it was because he took two strikes he could have bunted, instead of because Blanco missing a sign.
and has no control, or Fukudome’s patient approach is rubbing off on the rest of the Cubs lineup – 112 pitches through 5 innings! At least we’ll probably see the bullpen soon. Except that Dusty might leave him in.
It didn’t take long for Kosuke Fukudome’s new Cubs teammates to figure out he was a way better player than he’d let on while he was hitting .270, with only four extra-base hits, in spring training.
“We’re all convinced he was sandbagging everyone in spring training,” laughed Mark DeRosa. “In fact, we were sitting on the plane [leaving Arizona], and Derrek Lee said, ‘Hey, this guy gets it. I think he’s been tricking everyone.’ He’s been way more than advertised.
“I’ve gotten to hit behind him a lot, so I’ve seen it. You know how pitchers have quality starts? He’s had quality at-bats 99 percent of the time. He doesn’t swing at bad pitches. He’s always on base. He’s got sneaky power. He can do a lot of things. Chipper [Jones] even sent me a text the other day: ‘Is it really that easy?’ Hey, it is for him.”
According to Bill James Online, Fukudome has swung at only 11 pitches all season that were out of the strike zone. Amazing.
I couldn’t agree more with all of this. Nice to see him getting recognition from all sorts of people. Now let’s just get some runs.
Gone are the days on pitching on two days rest, getting 50 plus starts and winning 30 plus games. The pitch count is to save million dollar investments.
no pitcher is ever allowed to give up 5 runs in 6 innings? Besides…if Theriot makes that play on Griffy’s grounder…who knows what could have happened. If Hank hadn’t been trying to lay down a bunt with the pitcher on deck, who knows what could have happened. If the umpire would decide what is going to be a strike and what is going to be a ball that could have helped Lee and Aramis the last inning too. Holy crap…it’s like you think Ted is trying to give up runs.
...and he’s keeping him in. At what point does someone take Dusty aside and say “Hey, Dusty, not sure if this is such a good ideal. Remember what happened last time you tried this?”
Dusty reminds me of Mr. Glass from the movie “Unbreakable”. He keeps causing deaths and destruction searching for a “hero” to do battle with. Has anyone EVER seen a person with the letters V, Q,U and Z in the same name before? (Volquez) All he’s missinf is X for downright strangeness and I don’t mean Doug
drives a fly ball to deep left, hits off the bottom of the wall! DeRosa cruises into 3rd, Johnson to 2nd with a double making him 3-for-3. 1 out with two RISP!
golfs it into CF. Caught by Hopper. Johnson retreats to 2ND, where he had to stay up. Sorry, WGN changed their graphic to have a runner at 3rd so I thought he moved up but actually he stayed. 2 out, runners at 1st and 2nd.
No way the Cardinals are keeping up this pace that they’re currently at. Brew crew’s the biggest threat to take the Central, not the Kyle-Lohse-is-Okay-In-Our-Book Cardinals.
Look, I have no problem with Fontenot; it’s not his fault he’s not built as an everyday player. I do get mad when people think he should start, though.
hits it back to Howry, who stops it with his arm stretched as high as it goes. Hits the glove, falls to the ground, Howry recovers, 1-3 on the putout. 2 out.
he had to range to his right, kinda muffed it a bit so it rolled farther away from him, finally caught up to hit and made an off-balance throw to barely get Dunn at 1st
grounds to Encarnacion, who falls on his rump just as the ball enters his glove. Throws from his hindquarters, Lee beats it out at 1st. Runner on, 2 out.
Maybe this was already discussed, but I can’t find the time to go back through all the messages:
Is it possible that he’s tipping his pitches? Unless he’s hurt, I can’t think of another reason why he seems to be going well for a few innings and then gets lit up the second time through a lineup. I think (correct me if I’m wrong) this has happened his last two starts.
wait a minute, what the heck happened with this game??? I guess this is what happens when I am just certain it will be a sweep. That Volquez is on my fantasy team, so I guess if my dear Cubs had to lose, something good came out of it for me, lol
I miss being here for the games. My work schedule changes May 1st thank the Lord, so I won’t miss so many day games. My husband has been hogging the computer at home at night playing his stupid fake war games. I will have to get caught up tonight while he is bowling, lol.
Welcome, welcome.
Let’s get some runs in this one.

Pitching and Defense
Those are two must haves for any team to go beyond one and done in the playoffs, and the Cubs don’t have it this year.
They have one solid pitcher who is a head case, and a whole bunch of question marks. Too many errors and too many junk ball pitchers.
They may win the division, but that is as far as they go.

Lilly
Maybe this was already discussed, but I can’t find the time to go back through all the messages:
Is it possible that he’s tipping his pitches? Unless he’s hurt, I can’t think of another reason why he seems to be going well for a few innings and then gets lit up the second time through a lineup. I think (correct me if I’m wrong) this has happened his last two starts.
danimal15 - April 17, 2008
What the...
wait a minute, what the heck happened with this game??? I guess this is what happens when I am just certain it will be a sweep. That Volquez is on my fantasy team, so I guess if my dear Cubs had to lose, something good came out of it for me, lol
I miss being here for the games. My work schedule changes May 1st thank the Lord, so I won’t miss so many day games. My husband has been hogging the computer at home at night playing his stupid fake war games. I will have to get caught up tonight while he is bowling, lol.
