I'm sitting in my office reading the latest posts and in comes my boss with a secretary with my paycheck. It's gotta be a good omen so lets see what happens now!
Hopefully this tempers all of our excitment for this season. I am just slowly waiting to see who gets blamed frist seeing that all of our scapegoats are now gone.
an entire spring training without realizing that 1)theriot's not a lead-off man 2)Soriano isn't a #2 hitter (brutal) and 3)Pie is basically an autmatic out
Yes I know that doesn't make sense, but neither does Lou as our manager. BB and Trammell would be much better options in my opinion. They should have "Able to Formulate a Cohesive sentence in less than a minute" on their manager applications (yes b/c there are manager apps). Ok, That's my rant for the day. GO Cubs.
I guess the White Sox aren't playing until tonight, so you all have nothing better to do in your doublewides while waiting for the unemployment check ...
this is a carbon copy of the way we started last year, awful plate discipline, soriano looking more like a 136,000 dollar player, and with dempster pitching tomorrow who knows how many runs were going to have to score
He checked the runner at 3rd base, then hurried his throw to 2nd. Bad throw. Kendall lumbered into Fontenot and he was a little shaken up but appears to be fine.
The Brewers were ready to play this series, they had something to prove. The Cubs have been like the walking dead except the juices are flowing with Fukudome.
not to mention the fact that Kendall seems to know the Cubs hitters inside and out. If you notice, whenever he goes out to discuss something with Suppan, they are successful.
that we've lost the first two games-it's HOW we're losing the games that has me very discouraged-it's one thing to lose but to lose and look this bad....
him and Jim Powell. They're usually OK, but it's driving me nuts. Talking about the crowd booing, Jim Powell was like, "Gee... I don't like to see Cubs fans unhappy." Wanted to jump through the radio and strangle the mo-fo.
The Bears were not dreadful against the Packers. But I really don't want the Cubs to be the '07/'08 Bears, and the Cardinals be our version of the Packers....
Same old team. 5 runs this year ALL off HR's. How a team with this many .290+ hitters can never seem to score any other way amazes me. Maybe the problem with this offense is Lee and Ramirez. I have no clue why we can't score runs.
When you're crossing a river, and you ask if I will save you from drowning... "I say, you're damn right I'll save you. and then we cross the river, and he starts to go under, so I race to shore. I yell back at him in the water, you can make it, you can make it. But he turned around and went back to the other shore. You see, he ended up swimming the same distance as crossing the river, but he didn't make it."
add lisps... and that was one of his speeches. LOL I still don't get it... sounds like he stranded his teammate.
Has anyone seen this Detroit lineup?? Rediculous... I'm just saying! Then get blanked by the royals!
renteria
placido polanco
sheff
ordonez
cabrera
something's wrong when the best hitter in the NL is batting 5th in the AL
guillen
pudge
and jacque jones batting 8
but I need some help folks. I'm way to pissed about this for only the 2nd game... I don't think I can deal with another season of this. Any chance they're gonna improve, or should consider Arena Football?
Like I said, if you get this way now, you'll never make it to Memorial Day.
You lose 60, you win 60 and the other 42 are tossups. We've seen one of each. The Cubs are due for the third.
Of course the Cubs are going to improve. And by "dealing with another season of this," if you mean one that ends with a division title and a postseason berth, I can deal with that all season long, every season.
Really, you can talk about Lee and Soto's HR you're not going to win many games having two positives. Look at the cons, Soriano and Ramirez did squat again today, Lilly was awful, Howry got ripped, Hart might as well have watched people steal bases, Pie can't hit a cut off man to save his life. This is unacceptable. I don't want to hear any crap about it being "being game number 2", mental mistakes like not hodling someone on and giving to much of a secondary lead, and not hitting cut off men is not acceptable in game 2 or 152. Why on Earth would would you send Ramirez with Fukudome up. I dont' care what the situaton was, he's not fast enough, and doesn't run enough to get a good jump. This team plays like a bunch of old men. Why in the world is it that every team seems to hit the ball. Why is it that terrible teams can score, but the Cubs can't. We couldn't advance runners if the Brewer's were wearing blindfolds high on meth. I know its early, but how can it not be concerning when you look like absolute rubbish against a team you should be jumping out of your pants to play. Give me a break.
We better call this a night... it's pointless to try to convince these people of what a baseball season is. Sure we didn't win, but at least we're not invincible like we'd think we'd be if we had won both games. I feel like coming back 2 weeks from now and saying I told you so.
are correct. I'm thinking after the first two games, I'm not gaining as much from these game threads as I thought I would. Sad part is... we are all here because we love the Cubs. But I'd like to see some insightful commentary if possible.
from Al to start another game thread on game days so maybe I will tomorrow. Hopefully you will join us in there. I can't stand all of this doom and gloom crap.
I went to your Broadcasting rival Syracuse (Newhouse School of Communications grad). I'm actually friends with a bunch of broadcasters and producers from there... we are officially networking.
And I don't know if you're even still here. Just got back from the studio. Nicely done, there, Syracuse. Did your dean allegedly falsify quotes in an alumni letter too? : )
I graduate in June. Do you know anyone in California? Looking for a job there....and I have some leads in Santa Barbara...
Seems like I am watching a bit of a replay of last year's start...an offense that can't score because they lack a true leadoff hitter....boneheaded mistakes on the basepaths and in the field....bullpen questionable....guess we wait for Lou to blow up again...wish we had a leadoff guy.....and wish we didn't spend so much on Swinging Soriano....
who cares how much he gets paid... i'd rather have him in there over other alternatives... is his contract preventing the cubs from signing marquee players?
Kendall got Lasik surgery over the winter. Perhaps he can see again. Doesn't help his arm, but perhaps the guy's lack of production -- declining over the past few years could be chalked up to.....bad vision.
It has only been two games. This season is going to come down to the wire. Have more faith in your cubs and maybe put a little less faith in Fukudome. Great opening day, but a fundamentally strong hitter does not strike out and then spin in a circle because his balance is so off.
at least DLee got the bat going..... and Fuku's game yesterday....and Z looks like he is focused this year...Marmol is still looking good....too early to freak out....I always like to watch a good three or four weeks of baseball before I start to get a feel for a team....let the BrewSlobs enjoy these early victories...we will count on their pitching choking it up later in the season....but would love a leadoff hitter...
heh, I'm going out on a limb and calling you a big, dirty, liar,
but more on that subject. Soriano had a pretty lousy April last year as well, which can be correlated to the weather(avg temp in DR: 66 to 84 F). Give the man some time
Oh, do you mean like during the playoffs versus Arizona where he vaporized??? Soriano is a $136 franchise player. A franchise player DELIVERS, rather than hit home runs when the score is 9-2. A franchise player doesn't swing from his bloody heels on every pitch when the imperative during his at bat is to move the runner along.
I was brain-storming what you'd say, and I'd be damned if you didn't come up with the hypothesized results. How many times are you going to bring up 136, Arizona, and playoffs in one posting? Ramirez was putrid in the playoffs as well, why don't you say anything about that?
And Soriano has delivered, you just never bring it up and/or never even bothered to research it(or don't know how). Look at his "clutch" stats, specifically when it's Late and Close:
.318 BA, .356 OBP, .518 SLG, .873 OPS
or how about when it's tied?
.291 BA, .332 OBP, .588 SLG, .920 OPS
Your conclusion that he doesn't "deliver" is invalid, kind sir. Don't defame Soriano because of things that he actually does well at. Jeeze, this bashing gets really old really quickly
went off in the presser. Lou interrupted his answer to say "Hey, there we go!" And kinda gave a bemused smile at the whoever's phone it was. Then gave up on the answer.
back to the leadoff spot on the spot during the press conference....hilarious....you could see the wheels spinning and then he just came out with it......on the fly managing.....
I dont know what to say about these 1st two games. I hear some people saying "Don't worry, the Brewers are a good team." True, but the Cubs are better. The Cubs hitting is better than the Brewers pitching. 2 runs is no good. I dont expect Lou is going to let the team get off to any slower of a start. He needs to get on them and get on them early. If the Cubs are going to go deep in the playoffs they need to get mad about losing 2 at home.
I was pissed after todays game, but u gotta let it roll off.
I know i got front row tickets on the first base line to see dempster pitch tommorow, and you all will still be watching the game. 2 games down 160 more to go till the cubs make the playoffs at least.
woohoo

Rev Gunia - April 2, 2008
Glad to see
the boys are ready for a "fast start" to the season...unlike last year.
Wow.
Canadian Cubs Fan - April 2, 2008
Ramirez to Lee, about threw it away again, 1 out, Hart at 3rd
BrownE34 - April 2, 2008
ugh
whats up with the defense, seems like every throw nearly goes too wide from aram
rrmalik - April 2, 2008
my god does the calendar still say 2007
this is a carbon copy of the way we started last year, awful plate discipline, soriano looking more like a 136,000 dollar player, and with dempster pitching tomorrow who knows how many runs were going to have to score
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
Have faith my man
We made the playoffs last year
lilkimmer77 - April 2, 2008
Now you know why BigJohn isn't pitching today...
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
good call
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
geezzz. bet the over tomorrow huh
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
1 more out!
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
Get OUT
of this inning please
lilkimmer77 - April 2, 2008
K, 2 out
BrownE34 - April 2, 2008
Hart's pretty good huh?
Kinky Reggae - April 2, 2008
Nice Sig. I hope people take that advice.

Schwa - April 2, 2008
Affirmed.

If the moon were made of barbeque spare ribs, would you eat it?

Kendall walks
BrownE34 - April 2, 2008
excellent a walk to kendall, this is tough to watch
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
Sanot cursing...
Kendall walk
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
I mean Santo cursing
"daaaaaaamn"
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
is it me or is weeks literally on top of the plate righ tnow
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
Right after I read that, I looked up and he fouled a ball off. His momentum carried him on top of the plate. So....yes. At least for me.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Now Hart's getting his slider over.
Lookin' pretty good. Not quite Marmol-esque though.
Schwa - April 2, 2008
No one else is Marmolesque!
northsider - April 2, 2008
too fat of an 0-2 pitch
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
what the hell are we doing!
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
sucking...are you unfamiliar with it?
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
We are the Chicago Cubs.
We know nothing but unbridled, glorious success. Are you new?
northsider - April 2, 2008
Soto
double-pumped and heaved it into CF. Kendall stole 2nd.
northsider - April 2, 2008
He checked the runner at 3rd base, then hurried his throw to 2nd. Bad throw. Kendall lumbered into Fontenot and he was a little shaken up but appears to be fine.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Good Lord.

Schwa - April 2, 2008
BULLSHOES!!
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
We look like
an expansion team
bluekoolaide - April 2, 2008
I was gonna go with little league.
But expansion works just as well.
Schwa - April 2, 2008
false, expansion teams actually win championships (marlins, dbacks)
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
good point
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
Which catcher is going to get run on all the time again?
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
I'm tellin' ya...instant karma is a bitch.
daver - April 2, 2008
OK, I'll admit...
...that was pretty disgusting.
daver - April 2, 2008
Stupid...
...move by Soto.
The Brewers were ready to play this series, they had something to prove. The Cubs have been like the walking dead except the juices are flowing with Fukudome.
MPH73 - April 2, 2008
ohhhhhhhhhh
my goddddd!!
\yes yes
PATHETIC DISGUSTING!!!
plenz - April 2, 2008
I can't wait for the AAA season to start...
... something to look forward to.
IowaCubs- - April 2, 2008
It already did.
You're looking at 'em.
Jayo525 - April 2, 2008
lets not insult the iowa cubs here
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
Yeah, because
you do NOT want to make Les Walrond angry.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Hahaha...
Anyone see Lou's face there? Priceless.
Schwa - April 2, 2008
Get Murton
behind the plate!
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
Look for...
...one of the Cubs to get plunked this inning.
MPH73 - April 2, 2008
that was
similar to an 8 year old little league play/decision
plenz - April 2, 2008
I was a little
worried going in that we were exepcting too much too soon from soto
bluekoolaide - April 2, 2008
IT'S TWO GAMES!!!! No one crushes it all season long. Cut 'em some slack!
northsider - April 2, 2008
Tell that to the Royals
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
We are more talented than the Royals.
"The Royals are not a good team." - Al (or something like that)
northsider - April 2, 2008
i know. i'm just messin
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
haha, I know. Still though...ouch. Poor KC.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Same here...
not to mention the fact that Kendall seems to know the Cubs hitters inside and out. If you notice, whenever he goes out to discuss something with Suppan, they are successful.
Great Odin's Raven - April 2, 2008
How ironic is it...
That we refuse to run on Kendall... yet he is running at will on us?
CubsBullsBears - April 2, 2008
Ironic but also classically Cubs
bluekoolaide - April 2, 2008
Sounds like a Bach, Beethoven, Mozart compilation
to help carry you away from the depression of Cubs baseball.
northsider - April 2, 2008
It's like rayyyy....ah, forget it.
daver - April 2, 2008
Heh. YES.
northsider - April 2, 2008
they are
finished!
plenz - April 2, 2008
does anyone know why derosa was taken out?
was it an injury?
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
Suppan...
...has been painting the outside corner with his breaking ball, and Lou wanted a lefty to face him. I do think it was a little early.
MPH73 - April 2, 2008
Didn't derosa double earlier though?
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
1 R on 2 BB, 3 SB, 1 E and No Hits
Great.
Jayo525 - April 2, 2008
meh
0-2 isn't the worst thing....right??
Chanman25 - April 2, 2008
2 games out of first.
Great Odin's Raven - April 2, 2008
Dempster is pitching tomorrow......
0-2?
HIGGY - April 2, 2008
Not if it becomes 0-162...
B/c that could never happen right? PLEASE someone tell me that won't happen!
Jayo525 - April 2, 2008
wont happen
we play the cardinals
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
YES
northsider - April 2, 2008
nope
could be worse, could be 0-3
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
No, I don't mind
that we've lost the first two games-it's HOW we're losing the games that has me very discouraged-it's one thing to lose but to lose and look this bad....
bluekoolaide - April 2, 2008
Well, Opening Day was a close game.
This one is getting a bit out of hand, I can't deny.
daver - April 2, 2008
When did they
change the games to 6 innings? I thought they were still 9.
sue369 - April 2, 2008
D-Lee
Sends Kapler to the warning track right in front of the 400 sign. Out.
northsider - April 2, 2008
didn't we see enough of this last year??
cubsnlinux - April 2, 2008
End of inning on K, thank god
BrownE34 - April 2, 2008

northsider - April 2, 2008
After that woeful display of baseball...
I'm changing my avatar until further notice.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
Why not the Cuban logo? he'll save us allllll
northsider - April 2, 2008
meh
I am really going to be mad if every game is like this: All batters suck except one (Fukudome last game, Lee this game)
Chanman25 - April 2, 2008
Is Gabe Kaplar
the band-aid untli cameron can play?
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
against lefties, it seems.
Mr Snrub - April 2, 2008
Pat Hughes is killing me...
He made Lee and Ramirez's hits seem like they were long gone...

Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008

Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
Haha...
Ron is trying to act interested but he's soooo pissed about the game
CubsBullsBears - April 2, 2008
I'm assuming im not the only one who feels were
going to go down with out a fight here
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
i could see it happening, but its really getting frustrating
Chanman25 - April 2, 2008
You're not, sadly
If some of you keep this up, you'll never make it to Memorial Day.
It's a marathon, not a sprint.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 2, 2008
Amen, brother.

Not Bruce Froemming - April 2, 2008
haha. Still though, am I right to call you brother? I don't intend to offend.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Brother it is
Although there's nothing at all wrong with the sisters, either. :)
Not Bruce Froemming - April 2, 2008
Not at all! Just wanted to be correct. : )
northsider - April 2, 2008
true, but once, just once can we look like a decent team in april and not have to rely
on catching up later in the season, how about we start looking like major league players who can hit
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
It's April 2
Come back to me April 30 and we can talk.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 2, 2008
No...they've

bluekoolaide - April 2, 2008
Len
announcing the Yosh retirement news from kasey's fanpost.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Ramirez
Strokes a mighty pop fly in foul ground near 3rd base. 2 out.
northsider - April 2, 2008
I'm still waiting for Suppan...
to pitch like the "not very good pitcher".
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
Sort of like all
the pregame guys who kept talking about what a "stopper" Lily was
bluekoolaide - April 2, 2008
Nice A-ram
reaches out and golfs a foul pop up-why don't you just admit you've lost interest?
bluekoolaide - April 2, 2008
Fuk-man Do
Lets see something here....
Lou In Blue - April 2, 2008
Fookie
hit a comebacker to Suppan, who stabbed it nicely and threw to first for the ..... third out.
northsider - April 2, 2008
wtf.....
pretty sad we can't get to suppan!!!you would think he was bob gibson.unreal!!
goatstew - April 2, 2008
okay, I
think I've reached my pain quotient for today
bluekoolaide - April 2, 2008
I'm getting pretty close.
and I'm stuck at work listening to the Brewers announcers!
Great Odin's Raven - April 2, 2008
Juuuuuuust a bit outside.
neverAcquiesce - April 2, 2008
Is
it still bob eucker?
gwood - April 2, 2008
For the most part...
him and Jim Powell. They're usually OK, but it's driving me nuts. Talking about the crowd booing, Jim Powell was like, "Gee... I don't like to see Cubs fans unhappy." Wanted to jump through the radio and strangle the mo-fo.
Great Odin's Raven - April 2, 2008
Wait for it, guys.
Wait for the power of Greg Olsen's vocal chords to lift us to victory...

Well, you know, uh, uh, well...I mean, yeah, gosh, it was, the kid Tim, Timmy Lilly, it's just, you know, um........any questions?
northsider - April 2, 2008
and dont forget....the "its early".....
JB 23 - April 2, 2008
Ah yes of course, my mistake! I prefer that to Dusty's "dudes" though.
northsider - April 2, 2008
What i want to
know is-how long will it take Lou to start making changes?
bluekoolaide - April 2, 2008
hopefully he'll make the right change and not start dempster tomorrow because I'm positive it will be a loss with him in there
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
It starts at the top.
Change him.
Jayo525 - April 2, 2008
Good grief. You people kill me.
northsider - April 2, 2008
pretty stupid comment
sue369 - April 2, 2008
that's like the 3rd time you've posed that question
relax.
bap - April 2, 2008
I guess as long as...
we have more outs to make than we have runs to score we're still ok.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
just go to the dugout boys and save yourselves the embarrasment
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
Watch out for Braun...

MPH73 - April 2, 2008
Watch out for Braun in general, 24/7.

ok what did I miss
or do I even want to know
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
just a bunch of nothing
crappy game..
Chanman25 - April 2, 2008
Runners at 1st and 2nd, nobody out, Braun at the plate, Wuertz on the mound. I don't know how they reached, I'm working on something else.
northsider - April 2, 2008
If it gets closer I'll update more frequently.
northsider - April 2, 2008
base hits.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
what the eff
is wrong with our offense
grathanial - April 2, 2008
Nothing...
it's the other team's pitching and defense that's the problem.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008

remember what Lou told us last year?
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
Ahhhh The Old Heater Story
patron - April 2, 2008
that damn heater story
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
Wuertz pitching
2 base hits in a row, no outs
BrownE34 - April 2, 2008
make that 3
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
Wuertz pitches best...
...with guys on base. They've played right into his hands...
daver - April 2, 2008
hahaha you got that one right!
Chanman25 - April 2, 2008
Base hit
means they're loaded with nobody out.
northsider - April 2, 2008
The Brewers must not be very big fans of the 7th Floor Crew. Delay...delay....delay....

Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
one pitch away
from being a complete blowout....
Chanman25 - April 2, 2008
And that pitch is ... strike 3. 1 out.
northsider - April 2, 2008
I just hope that Chicago will have one good sports team this year
Bears...dreadful
Bulls....mediocre
Blackhawks....good but not playoff bound
White Sox....won't do crap
Fire...who cares?
Cubs...I dunno..
Chanman25 - April 2, 2008
The Bears were not dreadful against the Packers. But I really don't want the Cubs to be the '07/'08 Bears, and the Cardinals be our version of the Packers....
northsider - April 2, 2008
those were some good games
but they were awful this season. They had a lead in almost every game (I think 15) and blew it.
Chanman25 - April 2, 2008
The Bears actually never trailed by more than 7 heading into the 4th QTR last year
SackMan - April 2, 2008
ya at least we can look forward to the hawks for years to come
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
In the Cubs pen
Carmen "Piggy" Pignatiello gets loose.
In the Brewers', Riske Business.

CubsBullsBears - April 2, 2008
Yea
its like Wuertz pitches better with bases loaded
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
I'm tellin' ya...

Fine with me

So whaddya say... we make a run in these next 3 innings!?
CubsBullsBears - April 2, 2008
Yes. A single run...
That's all we'll get
I predict... final = 7-2
SackMan - April 2, 2008
LET'S GET SOME RUNS
lilkimmer77 - April 2, 2008
phew!!!
Wuertz just trying to change the momentum.

CubsBullsBears - April 2, 2008

Sori, Aramis, Dome, and Pie?

cubsonWGN4ever - April 2, 2008
Yes. if pitching is what you call it.
SackMan - April 2, 2008
Dare I say it?
Same old team. 5 runs this year ALL off HR's. How a team with this many .290+ hitters can never seem to score any other way amazes me. Maybe the problem with this offense is Lee and Ramirez. I have no clue why we can't score runs.
LerxstCub - April 2, 2008
weren't people complaining
about the LACK of homeruns in the first half last year?
cubsonWGN4ever - April 2, 2008
Last year...
We couldn't hit HR's to save our lives in the first few months.
CubsBullsBears - April 2, 2008
Yes.
And our catcher and 5 hole hitter have hit them already... I'd say that's progress.
bap - April 2, 2008
Yes
If we hit 3 HR's a game that would be great just mix in a few with runners on please!
LerxstCub - April 2, 2008
Um...it's the 2nd game of the season...
why don't you just say...
"5 runs in the last 72 hours ALL off HR's."
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
some people are
just never happy.
sue369 - April 2, 2008

Solo HR's do not.
LerxstCub - April 2, 2008

n/t
bap - April 2, 2008
No.

Absolutely NO OFFENSE.
kcjones - April 2, 2008
Yes, it is going to be a long summer
if I have to read all this whinging every time the Cubs lose.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 2, 2008
Pie strikes out swinging (2 out)
mrtobby - April 2, 2008
theriot and fontenot were kinda cute when they played well last year
but they are not major league players by any mean, get people on this team that know what the hell they are doing, we need wins.
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
Wow
Game 2 and were jumping off the cliff..... Love the fair weather fans
Lou In Blue - April 2, 2008
Not fair weather...
just worried about "here we go again".
Great Odin's Raven - April 2, 2008
Game Over
Mercifully.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Seriously....
Its only the first two games. This team will play well.
Lou will get this team winning.
EJThunder - April 2, 2008
I hope so.
I really do.
Great Odin's Raven - April 2, 2008
Fonty pops out!
Bad bad game... ....ah well let's get em tomorrow.
mrtobby - April 2, 2008
Thats why we
play 162 of em....
Lou In Blue - April 2, 2008
dont worry it could be worse
dusty could still be the manager
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
I'd say ah well too
But Dumpster's pitching tomorrow. Not good chances. I think the winning streak will have to start with Houston
The Ryno and I Know - April 2, 2008
I agree, it will just be interesting to see how long lou will leave him in the rotation and finally realizes
what the hell was I thinking in starting this guy
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
Can we give him at least 2-3 starts please?
Thanks,
bap - April 2, 2008
I actually don't mind if he pitches bad because then Lou will pull him out of the rotation quicker
CubsBall2202 - April 2, 2008
Ah yes, Dumpster. Never gets old.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Fitting last image on MLB.TV today...

"Aw man, I have to go back to school tomorrow?! CEDENO!!!"
northsider - April 2, 2008
haha...
are you a wildcat by any chance?
bap - April 2, 2008
I am.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Great school...
I'm an avid Cats football fan, which is probably no surprise... I've enjoyed your posts today... i think we have the same sense of humor.
ever visit Lake the Posts?
bap - April 2, 2008
Haha, thanks. And as for LTP: Yes, every day! I have the RSS feed in Safari. I've also called quite a few NU football games for WNUR.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Medill student?

bap - April 2, 2008
Right again, you're on a roll. I'm on my way to TV anchoring auditions, as a matter of fact, in a few minutes.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Very nice.
I went to your Broadcasting rival Syracuse (Newhouse School of Communications grad). I'm actually friends with a bunch of broadcasters and producers from there... we are officially networking.
bap - April 2, 2008
Sorry it's taking so long to respond.
And I don't know if you're even still here. Just got back from the studio. Nicely done, there, Syracuse. Did your dean allegedly falsify quotes in an alumni letter too? : )
I graduate in June. Do you know anyone in California? Looking for a job there....and I have some leads in Santa Barbara...
northsider - April 2, 2008
Did you call this one?

Oh, just joshin' with you, fellow Big 10'er
NittanyCub - April 2, 2008
Huh? What?
What was that? I have trouble hearing things SO LOW TO THE GROUND!
haha, kidding kidding. : ) I LOVE Paterno on Big Ten Media Day. Really, there is no one better. Of course, I don't need to tell you that....
northsider - April 2, 2008
Fundamentally yucky
Seems like I am watching a bit of a replay of last year's start...an offense that can't score because they lack a true leadoff hitter....boneheaded mistakes on the basepaths and in the field....bullpen questionable....guess we wait for Lou to blow up again...wish we had a leadoff guy.....and wish we didn't spend so much on Swinging Soriano....
razzpunk - April 2, 2008
did the money come out of your wallet?
who cares how much he gets paid... i'd rather have him in there over other alternatives... is his contract preventing the cubs from signing marquee players?
bap - April 2, 2008
No you are right....they could go out and splurge on a leadoff guy.....
Soriano is just frustrating to watch at times.....
razzpunk - April 2, 2008
Most def...
but when he's hot.... he's magma lava hot babbby!
bap - April 2, 2008
I leave with one last
CEDENO!!!!
Lou In Blue - April 2, 2008
FYI on Kendall
Kendall got Lasik surgery over the winter. Perhaps he can see again. Doesn't help his arm, but perhaps the guy's lack of production -- declining over the past few years could be chalked up to.....bad vision.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - April 2, 2008
Hmm....yeah.....I could see that.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Agrees with you...
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
haha, thanks santos, I appreciate that. (as always)
northsider - April 2, 2008
Pathetic
Allow me to propose the radical....put our two most fundamentally strong hitters #1 and #2 in the lineup and see what happens....
1. Kosuke
2. DeRosa
3. Lee
4. Ramirez
5. Soriano (piece of ^%*@)
6. Soto
7. Theriot
8. Pie
MDBNIU - April 2, 2008
That...
is an actual good idea...prepare to never see it happen.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2008
I like it
NittanyCub - April 2, 2008
I'd flip Riot and Pie
but I'd much rather have that than the current version.
DeRoMyHero - April 2, 2008
cub fans
It has only been two games. This season is going to come down to the wire. Have more faith in your cubs and maybe put a little less faith in Fukudome. Great opening day, but a fundamentally strong hitter does not strike out and then spin in a circle because his balance is so off.
brewfan2 - April 3, 2008
Oh well....
at least DLee got the bat going..... and Fuku's game yesterday....and Z looks like he is focused this year...Marmol is still looking good....too early to freak out....I always like to watch a good three or four weeks of baseball before I start to get a feel for a team....let the BrewSlobs enjoy these early victories...we will count on their pitching choking it up later in the season....but would love a leadoff hitter...
razzpunk - April 2, 2008
LOU:
"We didn't execute!"
northsider - April 2, 2008
LOU:
"Sori is a pile of dung."
MDBNIU - April 2, 2008
heh, I'm going out on a limb and calling you a big, dirty, liar,
but more on that subject. Soriano had a pretty lousy April last year as well, which can be correlated to the weather(avg temp in DR: 66 to 84 F). Give the man some time
NittanyCub - April 2, 2008
Time?
Oh, do you mean like during the playoffs versus Arizona where he vaporized??? Soriano is a $136 franchise player. A franchise player DELIVERS, rather than hit home runs when the score is 9-2. A franchise player doesn't swing from his bloody heels on every pitch when the imperative during his at bat is to move the runner along.
MDBNIU - April 2, 2008
Sweet Mary
NittanyCub - April 2, 2008
Put this one behind you,
and go out and get 'em tomorrow!
2 games don't make a season. A lot of guys still getting their feet under them. This team will be more than ok.
Tangled Up In Blue - April 2, 2008
Soriano back to leadoff spot...Theriot in the 2 hole...
Lou just seemed to just decide that at the press conference.....
razzpunk - April 2, 2008
and another step is taken
Twoard the crowning of Sammy Jr
Shanghai Badger - April 2, 2008
Face meet palm
MDBNIU - April 2, 2008
Some reporter's cell phone
went off in the presser. Lou interrupted his answer to say "Hey, there we go!" And kinda gave a bemused smile at the whoever's phone it was. Then gave up on the answer.
northsider - April 2, 2008
Lou totally seemed to make up the Soriano
back to the leadoff spot on the spot during the press conference....hilarious....you could see the wheels spinning and then he just came out with it......on the fly managing.....
razzpunk - April 2, 2008
We will win tomorrow....
and crush Dave Bush's very nice 5.12 ERA in 2007.
We'll see how Dempster pitches tomorrow. He had some fairly good stuff in ST.
1) Theriot
2) Fukudome
3) Lee
4) Ramirez
5) Soriano
6) Soto
7) DeRosa
8) Pie
9) Dempster
The good thing is you can wake up tomorrow and it's a new day. The Cubs aren't the type of team that is only going to score 1-2 runs in a game.
The NL Central has another thing coming if they underestimate the Cubs.
LET'S GET 'EM TOMORROW GENTLEMAN!
EJThunder - April 2, 2008
If Soriano is better leading off
That's fine.
He isn't your standard leadoff hitter. But the Cubs seemed to do pretty darned well when he led off.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 2, 2008
Agreed.
I'm calling it a night... have a good one people... great news is.... we play again tomorrow.
bap - April 2, 2008
Wow.... watching Horn..
Smartest thing Jay Mariotti has ever said: "It's the first week of the season... relaaaaaxxxxx!"
EJThunder - April 2, 2008
Astros are horrible
and will be in town after (probably) dropping 3 out of 4 to the Pads....they really look bad, and I can't chalk it up all to the Padres pitching.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - April 2, 2008
Whoa, I think I can
If a team has Peavy and Young pitch at Petco Park, you're more likely going to win than lose.
NittanyCub - April 2, 2008
Good Grief
I dont know what to say about these 1st two games. I hear some people saying "Don't worry, the Brewers are a good team." True, but the Cubs are better. The Cubs hitting is better than the Brewers pitching. 2 runs is no good. I dont expect Lou is going to let the team get off to any slower of a start. He needs to get on them and get on them early. If the Cubs are going to go deep in the playoffs they need to get mad about losing 2 at home.
Keystone80435 - April 2, 2008
If Young can put together
another good season, maybe I can agree. His '07 was not as good as '06. I think the jury is still out on him.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - April 2, 2008
Well
I was pissed after todays game, but u gotta let it roll off.
I know i got front row tickets on the first base line to see dempster pitch tommorow, and you all will still be watching the game. 2 games down 160 more to go till the cubs make the playoffs at least.
Rudey - April 2, 2008
I hope they can
get it together and soon but, just the same, based on what I've seen, I think it's time to scale down the expectations.
