Great Photos

Who took them if I might ask?

Read the post again.

It says so right at the bottom. (I've made David Official BCB Photographer.)

Ah, best to read the fine print

n/t

New Photographer

David Sameshima, he is the official BCB Photographer for 2008. He is part of Al's team. I heard he is getting paid real well.

I particularly like the last photo...

... you can see the ball clearly.

yes, that last shot is frame-able

strange.... this wasnt here before, hence the post below

That last shot is frame-able.

He must have

been using a shutter speed that most cameras don't have. Kerry was throwing hard yesterday.

haha

it was not a strike. classic.

More fantastic

pictures. Thanks David.

Tonight's weird news.

A-Rod attacked in Boston.

Wow, that's crazy.

I was attacked by a crow once. It didn't actually make contact with me, but it was scary as hell.

For those interested...

...the game's available to watch on MLB.tv for free, it seems. I had to sign in, but I didn't have to give them any money for the privelege.

Technical suggestion.

In the window that opens up to write a message, there's an icon that allows the writer to post links to other web pages. Presently, the default is that the link will take the reader away from BCB. I suggest that the default should be changed to open up the link in a different window.

I would love that feature as well.

Seconded

Is this in the comment window or FanPost window?

In any case, send this suggestion to

bugreport (at) sbnation (dot) com

In your subject line, mention that it's a feature request and then describe what you did above. They'll put it on the list to consider.

Comment window.

Thanks, Al.

For now

if you right click on the link, you should get the option to open it in a new window

Thanks for the tip.

I'll use it.

But what I want is for the reader to do that...

without having to use the right button on their mouses. A lot of people don't use that feature. I think it's in the site's interest for the link opens up in a new window and not take the reader away from BCB. That's why I sugested that when one is writing a post and click on the link icon in the comments window, the default should be that the inserted link will open in a new window, instead of taking you away from BCB as it does now. Anyway, I'll make the suggestion to the tech guys and see if they agree or not. Thanks for the tip, again.

Has anyone else noticed

the abundance of Big 10 Icons in this blog?

If there's ever a Buckeye icon I'm going to hang myself.

TNT... I'm dynamite

Well... Kerry told the media that he wouldn't have a "song." But, I was there on opening day... and today... and that's hat they played when he walked out to the mound. So, expect hat to be the song for the year. TNT.

According to today's Tribune...

... this article says it wasn't Wood's choice:

Kerry Wood entered to the strains of AC/DC's "Dynamite" on the Wrigley Field sound system Thursday, though after registering his first career save the new Cubs closer said it wasn't his idea.

"Not my choice," he said, adding he had "no idea" who chose the song.

The Cubs marketing department apparently came up with the selection, believing Wood wanted to enter with theme music, as many closers do. After Tribune readers sent more than 400 suggestions for Wood's entrance song last week, Wood said he didn't need to enter to music at Wrigley, where tradition usually trumps fads.

"I've never heard music played here," he said.

Asked about the choice of "Dynamite," Wood shrugged.

"I'm indifferent, really," he said. "I'm sure it will be changed at some point."

Wood said he would prefer to hear Wrigley organist Gary Pressy "tickling the ivory" rather than music coming over the loudspeakers.

(FYI, ALL of that is supposed to be in the quote box. Not sure why it's not.)

I think we need to put a stop to the Cubs marketing dept...

on this one. Somehow. It seems like he just wants to make this a business trip to the mound, stay overnight for 3 outs, and fly out after the 9th inning. Nothing fancy. I don't know how we do it, but I'd much rather just listen to the crowd.

I really don't understand...

... why they decided to do this without asking Wood first. Usually, they've done this with other players, asked them whether they wanted a song and if so, which one.

Besides

Thunderstruck would be a better song. :P

What kind of SLR are you using?

I'm assuming its an SLR.

Myself, I shoot Canon and work at the school newspaper at my school. It's a lot of fun; I get to shoot sports, news, and everything in between. I've considered bringing my 70-200mm L lens to wrigley, but it's probably overkill unless I can score some sweet seats close to the field. Here's my best shot there so far (its cliche, but I love it, haha):

Go Cubbies!

I just noticed....

Maybe the airplane glue hasn't worn off yet after yesterday's euphoria, but this night shot of Wrigley....to me the shape of the field bears a resemblance to the old Cubbie head logo from the 60's.

I will also be selling cinnamon buns on e-bay later that resemble Rickie Weeks.

my brother and I have noticed that before

sans airplane glue. I could see it.

Geesh.

That airplane glue is contagious. I see it too.

Me too!

I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue!

I can see it too!

Nothing like the power of suggestion. Now if a computer savy BCBer could put a transparent Cub head logo over this pic, that would be very cool.

Using a Nikon D70S...

with a 70-300mm lens, for the field shots. I keep a compact Fuji A500, or E900, camera with me for the wider shots. I have to keep it simple. I am in the bleachers, and I am keeping score too.

What, no pix of....

...the strange fashion statement that Prince Fielder is making? Thursday, he came dangerously close in appearence to the "shorts" that Bill Veeck foisted upon the 1976 White Sox...

I cannot believe he looked in a clubhouse mirror and said:
Damn, I'm stylin' today!!

He looked like a complete IDIOT

Prince

looked especially fat today.

Great pictures

I love David's photos because they show a bigger view of what's going on than the closeups you get in the paper or on more official websites. It's cool to see what's going on around the action. And the crowd in that last shot - wow, with the dugout (and bullpen) box seat expansions, you can tell the fans are really right on top of the players. I wonder if that is extra annoying or intense for them -- having the fans up so close and personal.

If we take pics and want to 'submit' to the official photog....

.....is there an email/link to do that? I'll be heading to a few games this year and love to take pics but the whole 'posting of pics' thing escapes me.

You can post them yourself.

There are icons on both comments and FanPosts (and FanShots, which is a better place for pix) to insert photos; you don't even have to know a lot of HTML.

But you will have to host the photos yourself on a site like Picasa or Photobucket or Flickr.

tickets

Off topic, but REALLY great seats available all weekend at Cubs.com. I am not affiliated with Cubs at all, but geez, I got two seats in section 14 row 10 this morning for Saturday's game! I'll post in ticket section also.

right now

All I see is stuff in section 204-3.

Anyone have bleacher seats for Sunday? Al? :)

I do have one for Sunday.

Want it?

Great photos

The last one is frameable. I also like the theme: Jason Kendall is part of all four shots.

Question for David: any idea what those "Karate Kid" bandanas say?

David actually emailed me that info the other day.

They say:

Fukudome

Toh Kon/Fighting Spirit

Ichiban/Number One

Hish Sho/Sure To Win

My understainding

Is that the last one also translates into

Certain Victory

More poetic and dramatic, methinks...

Thanks David

I had a fantasy that they said: "I'm a stupid gaijin."

Great pics!

That one of Soriano is a little scary, though. He looks like he's about to jam his knee into second base. The shot of Woody cutting down Kendall is definitely a classic.

Opposite

Could we have two more opposite corner outfielders? One is completely fundamentally sound, and the other one seems like he doesn't know how to slide. LOL. I love them both in different ways, but it's really interesting.

close enough

I think that last pitch was close enough. it looks a little high, but you can tell Soto is setting up a great frame-job. Agreed on the Soriano slide, I hope he doesn't make a habit of that, since he hopefully steals 30 bases this year.

I really like these photos. It gives us yahoos that can't get to every game a chance to see a new perspective, not just the photos on the other news sites.
