Bleed Cubbie Blue

Overflow Thread: Cubs vs. Astros, Friday 4/4, 1:20 CT

The sun may even be out by now. Otherwise it's going to be another cold afternoon. Let's hope the Cub bats have warmed up!

Thank you for flying

BCB Airlines.

any peanuts?

Like Wrigley Field,

you must buy them outside the airport.

Wooooord

LETS GET SOME RUNS!

Reed Johnson double?

ahh new page and some hit (s)

Johnson

hits it off the wall, just under the basket in left. Double. Runner at 2nd with 1 out for Soriano.

lets make thi shappen!

Soriano

grounds to 1st. Johnson to 3rd. 2 outs.

wow that was pathetic sori

WHOOO HOOO

GREAT JUMP... i felt like Neo from Matrix

Sori, your supposed to move him over with no outs..

Soriano...with runners on base???

Heaven help us!

I always feel a little nauseous after the jump...

...but I still dig it.

soriano

.....still bad at baseball!!

Ha---------you are incorrect in your statement.

hows that?

Because althought stats do not always tell the truth

His stats indicate he is very good at baseball.

ahhhhhhhhhh yes

but eyes tell a different story

he blows

Well you are the minority

at least were not clogging the bases today

or hitting solo HR's

which we rely on waaaay too much.

I apologize for my mental health problems

Gameday Audio is still not working, but I finally got the wbhr link to work.

I'm not sure if I'll ever recover. Please bear with me until I get my GA back.

Bill Madlock lives in Glenview. Who knew?

He's

The great forgotten Cub

Yeah, he was one of my favorites when I was a kid.

Madlock

gives youth baseball lessons at the strike zone there

mb he can help Fonzy..............wait.........it's too late for him

so do I!

Go Glenview

Grew up in Glenview

GBS gard 1998

gotta sneak one across here....

i still cant stand Pat Hughes

he tricks us every time

The Riot

Grounds to third, inning over.

This Sampson kid...

is good huh?

cy young calibre pitcher

why did i know Theriot was

either going to ground out or pop up?

Because people arent realizing

The Ronny Cedeno is better at baseball the Theriot and should be given the job.

I'm starting to agree with you

Nothing I've seen indicates

that Ronny Cedeno is better at baseball than Ryan Theriot.

In a game of "one on one" in baseball

if it was possible, Ronny Cedeno would win every time.

baseball isn't

a one-on-one game.

DUH

Thats why I said if possible. Ronny is better at baseball period. Dont give me crap about him sliding past the bag.

how bout fontenot?

I loved The Riot last year..........but so far...........

omgggggggggggggggggggg

so far, all FOUR games...

Maybe because he always does?

I dunno

channeling Madame Cleo perhaps?

Right. always bet the trend

because even all-star players

ground out or pop up 65% of the time.

But they also come through

in the clutch from time to time

sure.

You really wanna be making this judgement on the fourth game of the season?

Theriot won the position last year. He hasn't lost it this year.

He just shouldn't

be at the top of the order

Or the middle.

Or the bottom.

Because he sucks at hitting.

Agree

Him and Derosa should be switched in the order.

That's 56 pitches through 6 full innings and no runs

for a man with a career 5.00ERA.

sweet!

Have you been watching the game?

Sampson has been around the plate all day. If they don't swing, then they'll strike out.

does that mean

those pitches aren't hittable?

On a normal day

The Cubs probably are leading this one 7-2.

i think we can both agree

this is another example of the cubs making an average pitcher look really good.

Not really

Sampson has pitched well today.

So did Hill. One lucky homer is what did him in.

This is a...

...pretty normal day for April in Chicago.

it means we're not hitting them

today.

It's just 3 games and soon it will be just 162 games..

but I still don't see how we have vastly improved over last year. We still cannot hit period. We have two big huge holes in the form of Theriot and Pie in the lineup.

Career 5 era

IN 1.5 SEASONS

NOW PITCHING

32 Jon Lieber RHP

Sampson

Grounds to Lieber, bobbles briefly, but fires to 1st. 1 out.

Play was just gross

Top of the batting order

Soriano BA: .063
Theriot BA: .176
Lee BA: .188
Ramirez: .091

I'm not thrilled, ladies and gentlemen.

We're not going to win

too many with those numbers

I guess that means

they're going to get hot as heck soon to ascend to their means ...

We should find

about 7 more Fukudomes.

You're seriously citing batting averages during the fourth game of the season?

Was this

a "quality start" by Hill? And why do I feel slightly ill?

Because it's deja vu all over again

once again Cubs don't score when hill pitches

2 ER in 6 IP

is a 3.00 ERA. Not bad, really.

At least, nothing that a little offense couldn't cure.

I believe a quality start is at least 6.2 innings.

Still, overall, not a bad job by Hill. He's, once again, getting NO run support. Sound familar?

6 or more innings 3 runs or less

Really? I always though it had to be at least six and two-thirds.

I could have made that up myself, though.

Hammer is correct

6 IP or more, 3 ER or fewer

Steeeeeeeeeriiiiike 3

Boo-urns

Strikes out, low and in breaking ball. 2 out.

Isn't Bourne

the guy who played for the Phillies last year who almost messed his leg up badly last year by falling at the bullpen at Wrigley last year?

Yep. Came over in the Brad Lidge trade.

Thought so

Thanks

Where are my gyros?

are you still awaiting lunch??

n/t

yea, its a little ridiculous

I should check when I ordered it. It was right after we had that convo.

that's been

quite awhile. You should get them free.

Agreed! I'm so huuuuungry

WOOHOOO! 3 down!

LETS GET SOME RUUUUNS!

I hear he lives in Glenview

SixPence None The Richer

hits a swinging bunt, Soto to Lee. 3 out.

7th Inning Conductor: Bill Madlock

isn't that a band?

LOL Berman, oh no he din't

They're the ones responsible for "Kiss Me" and "There She Goes"

Why I like John Lieber

Strike. Strike. Strike. Strike. Strike. Strike.

FOR SURE

keep the ball in or around the strike zone......keep the ball on the ground...and let the fielders make the plays.

I still don't undertand why he didn't pitch

on Wednesday...

I'm confused -- help!

DeRo is terrible. He's got 2 GIDPs and 3 hits in 10 ABs. He's no better than a #6 hitter.

Riot is great -- a top of the order guy. He's got 2 hits in 17 ABs and 1 GIDP.

'splain that, please...

How about this...

DeRo is not terrible. But we should have Roberts.
Riot is not terrible. But we should have someone else (please).

But one of them IS terrible.

DeRo is not terrible..

But for crying out loud he is not a starter and should not be a starter. He is a Super Sub at best and should be used as such.

Can we please

score on this frikkin BUM!

good inning for lieber

I always liked Bill Madlock

..I met his as a kid...

now back to baseball. Time to score some runs!!

Good inning for Lieber

Did he get a good ovation?

Derrek Lee

Hits it hard but right at Tejada, 6-3. 1 out.

Nice. anytime Lee decides to

start actually hitting-let me know

STOP

swingign at the 1st pitch!

The Riot

Was such a breath of fresh air last year because he would take pitches, steal bases, and play good fundamental baseball. All 3 of those concepts were non-existent during the Baker years'. Now that we have had a year to watch him, he is being exposed. I like the guy but he may not be starter material.

now that's a thoughtful statement...

but let's get more than 4 games into the season before we finalize a conclusion.

the cubs are the best medicine for a terrible starting pitcher

just like last year....

agreed

seems he started becoming impatient in sept.

Theriot would be

a solid utility man but he's showing he doesn't have what it takes to start

PAT HUGHES IS BAD AT ANNOUCNING BASEBALL

how could a bad broadcaster win Illinois sportscaster of the year though?

Sorry, just my opinion

HA

Also, have you listened to the sportscasters in Illinois?

if only pat foley could go back to the hawks

Thankfully, though...

...he's better at announcing than you are with typing...

You are droppin the hammer on Pat Hughes today!

I like him, except for when he says things like "Kosuke Fukudome, wearing black batting gloves one on each hand, blue long sleeve shirt underneath a white pinstripe jersey with blue pinstripes blue socks blue shoes blue helmet blue letters outlined in red. The Cubs logo is a blue circle with Cubs written in Red..."

The clouds are white, the sky is blue. Grass is green.

lol...

It is an odd affectation, that he has to describe the unis every time...

I love Pat

Ron has begun to wear on me.

Aramis Ramirez

does NOT swing at the first pitch. Works it to 2-2, grounds it down the third base line, Wigginton's momentum carries him into foul ground. He keeps it, no throw. Runner at 1st, 1 out.

He hustled?

Interesting

Thank Goodness for FUKU

He actually took a pitch. I thought we were going to address this issue. It is not coincidental that the Red Sox have lead the league the last 2 years in walks (coupled with their success).

You must not have been watching yesterday

when the Cubs were taking pitches like crazy against a guy who was having trouble finding the strike zone.

Sampson has been all over the plate today. Hence the swinging.

Fukudome

TODAY: 1-for-2

Grounds through the hole past Loretta! Ramirez stops at 2nd. Runners at 1st and 2nd with two out for DeRosa.

Dome

singles to right.

1 out, runners at 1st, 2nd.

QUIT CLOGGING THE BASES!

I bet we dont score this inning

i will not take that bet

no whammies, no whammies, no whammies

Fukodome again!

Any way we could find two more of him?

derosa will hit into a DP

you're just a Positive Polly!

I coming the DP

Come on Dero, little bingo

"That big kid from Colorado"

Now that's a

seasoned Cub fan's thinking!!

"That Seattle Right Fielder"

I like your icon, it's awesome

did you photoshop that yourself?

Come one single ties the game

LETS GO SOTO!!!!!!!!!!

DeRosa

Grounds 5-3. Runners at 2nd and 3rd with Soto coming up. 2 out.

Short, slow grounder, not enough time to turn DP.

runners on 2nd and 3rd

DeRosa does NOT hit into a double play. 2 outs.

there gonna walk him for pie

Think Fukudome...

could ever get ejected from a game for arguing with an umpire? Would he get to call his interpreter out of the dugout to speak on his behalf? Just a funny thought.

They would toss the interpreter

now THATS a funny thought

The umpire would say "YOU'RE OUTTA HERE!" and make the throwing motion to the Interpreter, who would then repeat it in Japanese for Kosuke and "throw him out" with the motion too. THAT would be amusing.

Come on Cubs!!!!!!!!

Or are they gonna pitch around Soto?

Soto

drilled the last one -- fly out

He won't get much to hit...

n/t

What a dumb ass...

...comment

heh

a little surprising, I admit, but Soto hasn't been producing consistently this season; if they scouted him in ST, they know that, maybe they thought he was an easy out.

DeRo

tried his best to GIDP again.

may not get another chance like this

No way we're going to score here

why give Soto anything to hit with Pie coming up next?

That's what I thought too, but for some reason he grooved him one right in the zone.

Have another

Blue Koolaide!

SOTO BASE HIT!

TIE GAME!

Tie Game

n/t

Soto

smashes a base hit past 3rd! TWO RUNS SCORE AND IT'S TIED!

SOTO DRIVES IN 2!

Gameday needs a little work

Sampson threw an 84 mph "changeup", then and 85 mph "fastball".

thank you soto

now PH for Pie.

way to be

lets go

Now if I could just get some gyros

lol...

order a Pizza already! :P

You live in Glenview

Have you been to The Works? My favorite Gyros

I'll second this -- the Works rules!

LOVE IT

so much food

SO-TO.... SO-TO.... SO-TO

Soto is my guy!!!

another one???

his backside must be okay though...

and he's

DREAMY...

SOTO

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

good thing he didnt take the first pitch!

haha why would he? no one else is.

And of course I yelled about everyone swinging at the 1st pitch...

Ready to Go

Fired Up

PITCHING CHANGE

OUT: 43 Sampson RHP
IN: 53 Wright LHP

sotos been rippin the ball today

Awesome!

I like Soto

Not CooCoo for CoCo

Red Sox nation talking about a CoCo for Gallagher swap. I would rather demote Pie and get Fuld up here just to take walks.

Wont happen IMO

And guess what?

Soto swung at the first pitch!

tie game!!1

boy this site lags alot now

Wouldnt this be a great time for some gyros?

you should call them...

im gettin hungry hearing about em.

Nice hit Soto

Of course, Pie won't be able to do anything against a LHP

How many strikes will Pie swing at this AB?

man we needed that....

got Hill off the hook and its a tied ballgame!

Get that man some Gyros!!!

I bet...

...we don't score any MORE this inning...

>8)

i will not take that bet.

God, I love being wrong sometimes!!

that is some bad game management there by Cooper

53 WESLEY WRIGHT LHP

is a Rule 5 pick from Los Angeles.

Career: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO

Also the only LH in the Astros' pen.

leaving Pie in

to face the lefty.

With Johnson already burned as a PH...

...really don't have a choice.

ward?

and put him in Center?

And leave him in to play center?

I would pay to see that.

Is there a stat

for range expressed in inches?

What

no Ronny? :P

whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

OT: Tigers on their way to 0-4

bottom of the 9th, Jenks in, 8-5

lay off Pie

He's not Corey Patterson. Give him some time.

true.

it's a tie game, we'll need him in the field at least...

I'm very happy for us, but...

...surprised that the Stros were silly enough to pitch to Soto. I would've walked him, licking my chops to get to Pie. - TL

funny part is....

pie has the 3rd best avg after fuku and dero

thata boy, im less pessimistic now

Pie

is working the count, currently 2-2.

Another foul ball.

Nice at bat, hope for a nice outcome

Pie's

hanging in there. It's a pretty good at bat.

ANOTEHR BROKEN BAT!

Argh! Someone buy some new freaking BATS!!!!!!!

nice ab goin here

Now we see what our

bullpen is made of

whos coming in?

Pie

Breaks his bat and grounds 4-3. 3 out.

HOU 2
CUBS 2

4-6, excuse me.

Hey, atleast he didn't strike out on a pitch in the dirt!

mighta been a hit if the bat hadn't broke

still hit pretty hard

That's okay,

WE should have the superior pen... Let's Go Cubs.

Shnikes!

Way to tie it up boys. Let's get after 'em!

Pie...

oh man thats GOTTA be a demerit!

but worth it

that sounds like that old SNL skit Deep Thoughts

Why not leave lieber in?

Yeah, I think the definition of long reliever...

...is "more than one inning."

you have too - and they did.

They'll pinch hit for him after this inning.

Leave him in baby

n/t

Berkman

swings at Lieber's first pitch, bobbled by DeRosa. E4. Runner at 1st.

Really a double error. Bobbled it, had enough time, then bobbled it again.

groannnnn.

yeah. eh.

happens to the best of 'em.

dero is nowhere near the best of them

DeRo

cant get the goat head out of his glove....

2nd Error in 2 games

DeRosa's 1st of the season, Len said.

yep

whoops

I wrote one down for yesterday in the eigth

DeRo seems really tight

I can't help but think he is trying to "prove" himself to Lou after Lou spent the winter trying to replace him.

Lee

lines out to CF. 1 out, runner at 1st.

Nice play Pie....

i thought we shoulda...

Pinch hit for him!!!

who do you think was going to pinch hit for him and play center?

pinch hit ward

move ward to RF and Dome to CF

i dont know

what inning is it? 8th? in a tie game...gotta keep ward on the bench for extra innings. i dont know.

that's what I thought

Well obviously it would have been a home run instead of a groundout if we had! GOSH

LOL

there we go!

I know...

i'm joking here... gotta have him for defense... and expose him to clutch hitting situations... (he had a good AB too)

Calling for the DP

I smell a dbl play

Lieber's

Fastball: 87 mph

It's a trick

before the real, 104 MPH he has been saving up for his entire career comes out blazing

I hope this season gets better. Lieber gives me hope.

Reversion to the mean ... I wonder how "high" the mean of this team is.

I also agree with Len & Bob -- Lieber is a classy guy.

Santoswoodenlegs was smelling things...

a couple games ago... didn't work out.

meh

they are only april stats, but the offensive stats look horrible right now.

WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Tejada

Grounds FAIR down the 3rd base line. Ramirez made no effort, thought it was foul. THE BALL GETS PAST SORIANO. Berkman scores. Tejada all the way to 3rd. Fans booing.

The ball bounced off the wall, Soriano overran it to his right and it got past him. They ruled it a 3B.

Here come the Soriano haters...

n/t

I am not a hater

but that was a pitiful play

Yeah, go ahead, plenz...we're waiting.

argh!

Soriano! Error. Crap.

shit

Soriano and Ramirez, what the hell are you doing out there!!

of course....stay awake out there!

Seriously its the new foot of bricks

that sent that ball past soriano

can we get that $136 million back

and sign someone who knows how to play baseball, this is pathetic

no excuse for that....bush league

Ha Pat Hughes

"ITS IS!!!!!!!!!! Not in time"

So bad

he keeps your interest in the play, no?

Frustrating though

It's cold...

Soriano would have gotten that one if it was summer.

right

thats bad then

because its not 80 degrees in October either

Fly ball to Pie

makes the catch, 2 out, the throw is late and off-line and the Astros score on the sac fly. 4-2 STROS

4-2 game

on a sac-fly to center.

Soriano

SUCKS

At what?

anything

to do with playing baseball!!

Is that why he's been an All-star in all of his MLB seasons

besides his rookie year?

including

hitting homeruns?

dude

stop looking at stat books and watch him play!

It just doesnt get any more pathetic...

are you watching

the Tigers play?

hahahahaha good point!!

my bad....

it should read: it just doesnt get any more pathetic than the tigers

lol...

well, I agree, it sucks to watch/hear them make errors. Soriano showed some poor judgment right there.

nice

play superstar

So...

An RBI triple for Tejada, and a sac fly RBI for Wigginton.

way to go dero and sori

On what planet is that a triple?

this one, apparently

in little league..no wait..

It's hard to award an error if nobody comes near the ball.

hopefully

he pulls his quad soon!!

So what?

Ward can waddle around out there?

Loretta

Grounds to third base, goes to his knees to make the stop, strong throw to first, inning over. To the bottom of the 8th.

Lighten up people!

Even if you dislike Soriano...he'll be around for eight years. Just think of him as family :-)

I just hate how even after he missed it, he jogged after it. Run your lazy ass now!!!

just change your nickname to 'LeftFieldSucks'

I don't

like some of my family either

Why is that not surprising...

i'm sure it is mutual

nice defense guys, sori looked like wasn't even trying

Sleepwalking through

April again...I know, I know, only 4 games...but will people around here be saying "it's only 25 games"?

I know I won't.

That was a bad play on Soriano's part. There's no denying that.

Better get used to it...

....it's a long contract.

When he is bad, he is very bad, and when his is good, he is very good. Add it all up, and he is a pretty good player, but not top shelf.

If they can't find a way to turn his power into more RBI's, his contract is going to be a killer.

exactly

doesn't 136 million buy top shelf these days??

God dude, stop with the Soriano bashing

It's 4 games into the season; do you know anything about anything?

why

is a "long reliever" like Lieber in a tie game in the 8th?

why did OUR CLOSER Kerry Wood...

come in during a 0-0 game?

I know most of you have your own fingers and you point them in your own direction, but i still have mine stuck on Rothuselesschild.

Ha Heres and idea

Why dont you manage the team you have all the answers?

Because he's good? How much of that inning are you going to blame on Lieber? He got ground balls, what more do you want him to do? Sprint to 3B to field it?

PEOPLE...

stop smelling things from now on... anytime a poster smells good things for Cubs... you know what happens...

thank you in advance.

Ha heres an idea

Why dont you manage the team? You have all the answers.

Hammer,

if you take me seriously... that's your own fault.

it was wierd i wasnt even replying to you...thats why I rewrote it above

oh ok... cool, it's all good.

I'm smelling things...

...but they don't smell good!

So much for the momentum swing

we score two and immediately give them both back

would be a tough loss for Jon

soriano should get the loss, not only for his pathetic at bats but his horrid defense too

I gotta agree with you there

PINCH HITTER FOR CHICAGO

Out: 32 Lieber RHP
In: 5 Cedeno PH

Once Cedeno was announced, Houston brought in Brocail RHP to face him. Another timeout.

NEW RF FOR CHICAGO

Matt Murton :-)

Fukudome

plays RF. Not Soriano.

Dont tease Sue like that.....

Our right fielder

is the best player on the team right now. Why would you ever replace him?

all i have to say is Fukudome...

better be ready to play 162 games, because we need someone who likes to touch those things out in the field that are pretty large and white.

PINCH HITTER

Out: 5 Cedeno PH
In: 33 Ward PH

These are

ST mistakes....shouldnt be happening

NEW PITCHER

Out: 53 Wright LHP
In: 26 Brocail RHP

Ward

grounds 3-1. 1 out.

worst player on the team coming up...

n/t

shut up

totally joking

just sticking it to the negs on the board.

haha

you were doing it well then

pretty amazed at how terrible the defense

..has been so far this year. Almost hard to do...

Some laps around Wrigley

for Sori today?

Unfortunately the

Cubs spring training usually extends into May

Soriano

Flies out to RF. 2 out. On a 1-0 count.

SORIANO: 0-for-4 today

we need a road trip

to get Soriano out of Wrigley for a week

its incredible how he is making 136 million dollars for doing so little

I'm so sick...

of DLee leading off innings.

huh?

Sorry.

I fell victim to all the pessimism around here and figured the riot would not reach.

oh!

I see. Heh.

Lee got on, runners at 1, 3rd...

Im sick of Ramirez leading off innings

it's cold

in Pittsburgh too

What's the deal?

with this cold weather BS, does the other team just dress warmer?

OMG Soriano is so bad!

HE DUZNT EVEN NO HOW TO SWING LOL

Theriot

SINGLES to right! 2 out.

Went with the pitch to the opposite field, well over Berkman's head, landed in shallow right inside the line, rolls to the fence, Pence picks it up, presses his butt against the padding on the wall for some reason, then threw it in.

boooo

Theriot with a hit, boo!!! He should have gotten a HR!!

$5 says

Santo drops an F-Bomb live before the end of the game.

($5 to be paid over a 12 year period)

Pro-rated...

what is this the NFL??

soriano's what now, 1 for 17?

Theriot runs

grounded up the middle, HIT! Theriot moves to 3rd, runners at 1st (Lee) and 3rd with 2 out.

Hit-and-run with Lee at the plate.

NOW we have something cooking.

Lets go Ramirez!

booo

Lee only got a hit! we should hit home runs instead!

i'm pretending to be a hater

if you can tell..

I knew you were :-)

My pathetic attempt to reciprocate the sarcasm

Mine too.

I'm talking about my comment above his, with the caps

You're just a cranky dude

YOU'RE TALKING CRAZY TALK

CUBS BULLPEN

34 Wood RHP
43 Wuertz RHP

i love how mlb audio

is at least 30 seconds behind at this point.

which ios why I bought a $12 radio last night...

ill be doing the same this weekend.

DO NOT send DLee

(1) Soriano; (2) BCB 2.0

(1) Soriano won't bat .067 all year. But he will probably
continue to get worse every year of his contract.

(2) The new bleedcubbieblue is lousy. Even with high speed internet and a new-ish PC, the site is sluggish, refreshes constantly and is less user-friendly than before. And on anything but the best computers, it is totally unusable. Bye folks.

whoa, it's the old me!

Is it your ex-girlfriend?

wow

looks like the later years take their toll on you

"refreshes constantly"?

I don't know what THAT means, this site doesn't refresh constantly...

when posting a comment

it refreshes with each comment added while you are typing your new comment.

Oh hi, I thought you were leaving?

wow

You've been a member of the site for 3 weeks and you're already the biggest jerk here. Congratulations. Have fun this year.

come now...

there are LOTS of jerks here.

How dare you tell me and Ex

that you loved us, northsider.

I'm so gonna put you on here:

http://dontdatehimgirl.com/home/

Anyway, you basically said "This site sucks now, bye" yet you're still here to complain? What?

hahah

you only been here 3 weeks adn you're already winning awards! congrats!

technically, that's not a refresh

it's the code bringing up new content, but the page doesn't reload.

and if it didnt...you have to refresh CONSTANTLY

geezz

maybe you can donate some new servers to BCB? Its a free service....nothing to complain about.

hr will do

a double would be fine. maybe even a long single.

Lee doesn't hit home runs anymore

So what was that yesterday?

Or April 2, excuse me.

how bout a gap-er

pretty please/?

please dont swing at the low and away slider

FYI: I meant "Matt Murton" as the new LF

My first language was Hebrew -- reads right to left -- and I sometimes get right and left mixed up after I learned English.....sorry :-)

8 hits

2 runs incredible

wow, he's working this count!

but he struck out. crap.

Ramirez

Strikes out on a full count. Inning over. Cubs do not score, strand 2. To the 9th.

hurray

strike out, I love strike outs!

that doesnt surprise me

PITCHING CHANGE

In: 43 Wuertz RHP

So much for this game

Here's an idea...

you should change your name from bluekoolaide to bluewhiner.

OHHH!

That's what you call a BURN!

can we get macias back for ramirez

sorry i dont mean that

And Jody Gerut for Soriano

Chanman

you're gonna have to come stronger, CB2202 out-hated you there

haha

can't win them all

CAN WE GET SALTAMACCHIA FOR RAMEREIZ

I HERD HE PLYS EVRYWEAR

Good enough to be in AAA i think

I hate JOSE VALVERDES FACE

He will shut the CUbs down. ....hope not, I want to be excited to go home and watch the tape of this game

Rammy

still pulling off everything

What type of pitch?

hanging slider I think

it was real hittable pitch

people in my office

are screaming for TPTSNBN trade.

meh

can we stop using that? I really think of Harry Potter everytime that is mentioned

I hate Harry potter

what the hell?

Soriano at 2b?

he can't be much worse there can he

he'd look better

on an opposing team

BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAA...

Harry Potter?

I dont get it

well

Al kept using "Person who Shall Not Be Named" That's pretty much Harry Potter there for ya

where does Sori want to hit in the order now

or will we come up with another excuse for his performance

WTF? Soriano at 2nd???

dont see why not

It might be a good idea.

I saw him play here in DC a lot...but it is a little "sudden" -- doncha think?

at least we have

fukudome leading off the 9th

boo

he doesn't deserve it, he hasn't accomplished anything

Good work

You're back. Keep it up!

you definately don't know

what the ryno knows

Oh, so now

you're hating on other posters, eh?

haha

well...thats what they do, huh?

yes

you've transitioned to BCB 2.0 very smoothly. Bravo.

the start of this year feels like the end of the playoff series

with soriano and ramirez doing absolutely nothing

define "nothing"

I don't doubt that they've both struggled. But Soriano has RBIs, and Ramirez is having good at bats, just bad outcomes.

well when they are a combined 4-28 or something i'd say that's very close to nothing

it's not good.

How are the Tigers sluggers doing?

why in the world would you want to compare our mediocrity with someone else

and want to feel better??

I'm not.

I'm suggesting that it's entirely possible that we just need some more time, and we're not the only team that struggling.

but..but..that was my point..

it looks like every season we need some more time..why in the world every season we need more time? what in the world were we doing in the off season? I just don't want to be limping into the playoffs every season with a $125m dollar payroll.

Towles

Today: 1-for-2, HR, 2 RBI, HBP

Grounds to Soriano, 4-3, JUST got Towles.

Soooooo....

Please read into what i am saying - is it safe to say that it is still early, and use the same wording for the Brewers who clearly know that there are 4 bases on the field and they like to touch them all (currently winning 13-2)

against the bad news...

GIANTS, but good point anyway.

GIANTS right....

but dig down inside and ask yourself if we were playing the giants right now how many runs would we score?

id say 5 and it would be considered an offensive explosion

2-3 would be more likely right now.

17, but only because I'm good at guessing

giving up 3?

The Brewers look really dangerous.

We'll see how it plays out; they have a bad manager, a suspect defense, but they have a great offense.

Yes they are...

They are a good team - and you are right their manager might kill them - Other than that, their offensive production and pitching might be enough to overcome the errors.

Just finished my gyros

What'd I miss?

JK

not much...you were better off with your gyros

It was yummy

But now my stomach feels uncomfortable. About as uncomfortable as Soriano looked on that groundball.

worth the wait?

PINCH HITTING

IN: 2 Erstad (L)

He's a former punter, so he's got grit.

ahh... a FJM reader!

Absolutely : )

Look for my Erstad at-bat comment down there, for a hidden link...

What an ugly start to the season.

I'm starting to feel like my 12-15 prediction for the first month was optimistic. Yikes.

At least Fukudome is playing well. He's really the only thing going right now.

I love Mike Wuertz

True Story

I'm sure

deep down the Sorryano infuriates Lou

You can bet on it

n/t

i am not so sure its deep down.

...his play is gotta be driving him crazy

I'm sure it does.

He need to play better.

Oh how clever. SORRY. I get it. So you're sorry for making fun of him?

glad

I am not the only 1 who can't stand him

Clearly you did not read what you're replying to.

Darin Erstad

Pops out to Pie in CF. 2 outs after Erstad's flyout.

Here is a perfect example

of only having Johnson to back up the OF. You use Johnson early....then you use Ward and he has to go somewhere. So you have to move Soriano to 2nd to keep them all in the game. Having 8 reserve infielders does ya no good in that situation...

thank you for explaining the switch...

instead of "WTF Soriano to 2B???"

bap

that is just my GUESS of how it went down. Not sure if thats really what happened.

if you have Ward Johnson and another outfielder

you can pull the double switch and not have to move Soriano to 2nd base....

Lou

wanted to get Ward another at bat

hopefully another at bat

Bourn

grounds out. 1-2-3 9th for Mr. Wuertz.

Fukudome
DeRosa
Soto

coming up...

walk, dp, deep flyout

then im buying a lottery ticket

wow i hate valverde

and i really don't wanna watch him celebrate an april win like he just won the world series

Start Soriano at Second

Put Murton in Left

jk

no but seriously

lol...

I was just about to ask if you were joking.

I actually think this is worth a shot

I still think that there is something more to Sori on 2nd.

It's more than what we think. Lou is pissed at something. Maybe he wants Sori back at 2nd. Maybe he's pissed at Dero. Maybe he's pissed at Sori. Dunno. It seems so sudden....

Aghhh no

youre wrong.

why would he be mad at DeRo?

for one error?

DERO is at 3rd. So Lou can yell at him louder

Ramirez

I think it's two things:

1) Lou wanted to keep Ward in the lineup
2) Ramirez would have been the 9th to bat

and possibly:
3) Lou wasn't happy with Ramirez' lack of effort

I hate him too

he gave me a ball once though after speaking spanish too him for fifteen minutes..

Fukudome

TODAY: 2-for-3, 2 1B, R

I cant stand this clown....

PITCHING CHANGE

In: 47 Crazy Eyes Valverde RHP

These guys

are pathetic. Plain terrible, awful, miserable, pathetic, lousy, carppy, deplorable, pitiful, repulsive, discusting, sickening, and careless.

carrpy?

I smell a rat-fish!

I personally want you to know

that I flagged you as a troll, because your comments suck

oh, that's right

we can do that sort of thing now...

First of

all, I'll apologize for the above post. I should noy have wasted the time. Truth be told, I do CAD drawing of engineer parts, and I spent 16 hours drafting the cab of a tractor, and server went down, and I lost the whole thing, as I was listening to the 7th inning. No excuse for it really, but I hope you could see my frustration. I would hope that you would have taken the time to atleast view more of my posts as I (with this as an exception) am knowledgable, and don't just post gibberish like above. I've been posting here for about 2 years now and would hope that you would refrain from using a plural when saying "comments" because I do think its a little strong. I'm sure if you took 5 minutes you'd find a profanity laced post, most likely more useless than the one above.

I say we should change the line-up for tomorrow:

1.Marquis
2.Pie
3.Soto
4.Fukudome
5.Theriot
6.DeRosa
7.Derrek Lee
8.Aramis
9.Soriano

lol!!!! Do it, Lou!!! We're sure to win!

i dont disagree with hitting Soriano 9th....

Fukudome

Breaks his bat on a flare, caught by 2B. 1 out.

DEROSA!

HOME RUN!!!!!

DeRosa

HOMERS TO LEFT!!!! 4-3 Astros.

line-drive, got out in a hurry, whoever said "is DeRosa going to keep swinging until he hits a home run?" has his answer.

LOU MUST BE MAD AT HIM

wait...

now I'm confused. Did Derosa go to Third?

Yep...

Double-switched Ramirez out, shifted DeRosa to 3rd, brought Soriano in from left.

I missed the part where DeRo went over.

We're...

...here for ya man.

what I wanna know is

are we supposed to be mad at Dome for not getting on?

YES

TRADE HIM!!!!

DERO

MY HERO! Home......run

BOOO!!!

He should have hit a single there!

He should have hit both

If he were a good baseball, that is. God this team sucks

good baseball player, that is

Ha, its probabnly easier to be pessimistic

well thats one

too bad it wasnt a walkoff

Ha, I just love that he hits it off Valverde.

where was that with the two guys on base?

yea I know....

Dusty taught him that one

Let's see if he get's rattled.

3-1 on Soto

three balls in a row, too.

if only soriano could have fielded tejadas double cleanly

we would be tied

If only Towles had never been born, we'd be winning

Ha, THE TRUTH

shit

Soto hits it well to Lee..

Soto

lines out to LF. 2 out.

And thats why

I benched Cabrera for DeRo today...

and i benched dero . . .

I didnt think M Cabrera was going to play today so I made the switch.

Soto's is ripping the ball.

What about moving him up in the lineup?

he is going to hit alot of HR's.....

soto has ripped the ball every at bat today, he should bat 4th over ramirez

DeRo...

...actually hit a HR today. I guess that means *HE* should bat cleanup, huh?

WE NEED

another power hitter on the bench.....

we need alot man.

Pie

pops out in foul ground to Wigginton at 3rd. Cubs lose 4-3.

And out come the Pie

hater

IS NOT PIE'S FAULT

wouldnt be on Pie's bat to keep the game alive if ift wasnt for all the errors....

you can't deny

the fact that Pie is absolutely helpless at the plate right now. that is not the same as "giving up on him"- but he has nothing

what are you TALKING about?

Before today's game, he had the third best AVG on the team!

and he lead the team in strikeouts as well.

Helpless?

I don't know about that. But then again, anyone named Neifi knows hitting like the backside of his own hand!

You can't...

...deny it, but the first 4 people in the lineup today were hitting for less average than Pie before that last AB. It's obvious the team's starting off slow w/ the bats - no need to hate on individuals.

why

is saying that someone looks uncomfortable while they are at bat so inflammatory?
it's not HATE

"helpless", which is what you said, and uncomfortable are not the same thing

because

he's hitting the damn ball, and that's not "helpless" OR "uncomfortable.

get mad about it

get mad about WHAT?

Pie is playing WELL.

Pie...

...didn't waste much time, eh?

wow that was a truly pathetic game

houston comes in 1-3 and we hand them a win, truly disgusting

Yuck.

Same old Cubs experience to start the season.

Pie

flys out.

Dang. Still. Soto's bat is hot, sooner or later, he's going to start really slamming them out. Hopefully sooner.

And how about that DeRo!

how bout that error he made...

he bobbled the ball. it happens.

Right

With Soto and DOME, I like the upside of the team. Off to an ugly start but it still seems like a much improved team in 2 positions so far.

Isnt it just like the Cubs

to get close and fail in the ninth.

Oh well the weather looks nice this weekend

Pie

should have flown out to the catcher...what was he thinking!!

The "triple"

really cost us on that one.

Pie...

...keeps jamming himself on the inside heat. He keeps leaning over the plate as he swings.

thats why

he needs to be on a bus to Des Moines

and who plays center? Johnson, full time?

Soto

That way we can get HANK WHITE back in the line-up

Henry Blanco, Center Fielder

'nuff said >8)

i hate sloppy play that results in losses. ugg

the story today is about bad defense....again.

that has to change and soon.

That and Soriano needs to get his head out of his....you know what.

Valverde makes me spitting mad....

with his theatrics....but what makes me madder is lazy defense by Soriano...crappy hitting by our well paid vets....and just that same crappy feeling that we started last year with....at least our starters look pretty okay so far.....and all our Japanese hitters are hitting it well.....

Did he dance around after it?

selfish player.

can we get a refund on soriano

you just hate how much he makes...

don't you?

no

so stop asking

I have a feeling....Lou is gonna be pissed

I would be.

This team looks unprepared and sloppy.

he should be....they are playing really poorly in every facet

they are alseep, just like they were to start last season.

Rich Hill looked okay today!!!

As did Demps and Zambo....if only we had some offense....

YES THE GLASS HALF FULL

Im with you.

It'll come.

Give it a little time.

agreed...

Soto is for real, i'm thinking too.

true, the starting pitching has been the bright spot so far, which is good to see

negatives have been: offense, defense, but the bullpen is not at fault today, that was soriano and dero's defense in the 8th

It's touch to win when...

your three big boppers are hitting
.059 (Soriano)
.222(Lee)
.154 (Ramirez)

october 07 redux

Makes for a week start of the lineup,

which is part of the reason the Cubs keep trailing early.

yes, maybe if we can get the heart rolling...

Dome will be in RBI opps more.

Lou's post-game

If Lou has any choice post-game remarks, could someone please post them?

I'll try to rush-transcript like I did with the Jim Hendry interview.

would love to see that

Game over.

W: Wright (1-0)
L: Lieber (0-1)
S: Valverde (1)

Tejada: 2-for-4, 2B, 3B, RBI, R, K

Tejada

would have looked good in Cubbie Blue

Nope. People would be saying the same things about him as they do Soriano.

Yeahbut...

...the team'd get a quantity discount on vitamin B shots...

I still think his body will break down this year

Maybe, but the main problem with Soriano,

and the thing that really drives people crazy, is his all or nothing approach at the plate. I don't think there's another player in the majors that is as hot and cold and inconsistent as Soriano.

Thanks again northsider...

great work... we'll get them tomorrow!

Thanks! Despite me being the worst person here (or whatever award I won)

that wasn't you

that was the other guy. Wasn't it?

Nope:

ExNorthsider: "when posting a comment it refreshes with each comment added while you are typing your new comment"

northsider: "oh hi, i thought you were leaving?'

exnorthsider: "wow you've been a member of the site for 3 weeks and you're already the biggest jerk here. congratulations. have fun this year."

northsider: "anyway, you basically said 'this site sucks now, bye' yet you're still here to complain? what?"

well, frankly

I applied the comment to the other guy. I think it's him, not you.

No!! Don't take away my award!!!

I just looked at your profile..

we joined on the same day... eeery

We are brethren.

LOL

BCB pledge brothers.

Me too

same day... BCB pledge brothers haha

prob because of the new format change

I've probably been lurking for like 2 years but never felt the urge to comment until now. For some reason. I think it's just the whole, making the effort to have to register thing.

Yeah..

you're right... but I had only registered a few days before that.

Same here

just lurking for a few months and didnt partake until the 17th

OK

So it's official... we're the BCB triad. BCB's first pledge class.

Shhhh, or we'll get hazed!

No doubt! We'll have to run Jimmy Johns to the left field corner for the BCB crew at games!

The three Amigos?

not bad.... not bad

Complete with the dance.

I did always look pretty good in a sombrero. Where are you other two at? Maybe we could go to a game wearing sombreros to make it official.

(I call Steve Martin's role)

I attend Northwestern, so, just a purple line and a transfer away.

Good thing

I didn't say "Three men in a tub". :D

haha, good thing indeed!

well, if you WANT it...

LOL

that's funny.

Theriot or Tejada

pretty easy call in my book. Even given the enhancers..

So Oswalt Vs Marquis

I'll be in Left field tomorrow.....I'm hoping for a miracle

Kind of like a David Hasselhoff

Miracle of Love?

Exactly like the Hoff....chest hair and drunken Wendy's eating too haha

another comment coming from lou about the cold

Lou Says:

It's cold out there. I'm not making excuses. You're not going to win scoring 2 or three runs. You gotta put 5-6 runs on the board. You have to pitch awfully well and not make any mistakes when you only score 2-3.

We will get better.

Lou Piniella

Did you think that ball was foul?
"I asked the umpire, he said he saw it, it went right over the bag."
Rich pitched well?
"I thought he did, gave up 2 runs in 6 innings. He'll get better from this, but, yeah."
Sampson?
"You know, he was throwing strikes and getting ahead of the hitters. I don't think he walked a hitter, did he? Cool weather, throw strikes, locate the ball and you get a chance. That's what he did and he pitched well."

"Today, we've had two games where ... um ... shaky defense, but outside of that, it's cold out there, I'm not making excuses, but we'll get better. That's all I can say."

"We've gotta start scoring more runs. You're not going to win too often scoring 2 or 3 runs. You gotta put 5 or 6 on the board. I've said that many many times. You can't make any mistakes at all when you put 2 or 3 runs on the board."

Soriano?
(laughs) "He works hard, I don't know what happened on that, I saw the ball go down the line, umpire said it was over the bag, I've gotta believe him. Saw it go by the bullpen and lost sight of the ball. I don't know exactly what happened."

That's it, Comcast cut away.

such crap...the other team is playing in the same weather

But one isn't from the topical weather of the DR

which is the what Cubs' left fielder is from, if I remember

and the center fielder too, eh?

Al talked about this at the game on the 2nd. these guys don't really see winter...

Oh jeeze, yeah

Totally forgot about Pie as well.

I mean, it can't be the main reason for Soriano's poor BA thus far, but I'm pretty sure it's a good factor to him doing bad, and for Pie as well.

well I guess

even if we make the playoffs we are screwed, October in Chicago can be nasty.

Double-switch

was because Fontenot had a bad back today.

thank you.

what happened to keeping Z on the mound every

5 days...I am fine with skipping over marquis as much as humanly possible

isn't that

every five GAMES?

he's saying

Z should pitch on 4 DAYS rest regardless of how many games there were given that he's a better option than others.

ok

I don't know then.

exactly we did this at the beginning of last year I believe

Im surprised

there arent 15 new diaries yet.

Dan Plesac

kinda blamed the Soriano play on the fact that it's a "fast field"

Is he fukking kidding!!

unbelievable!!

Rich Hill

"Absolutely, I think the way spring training went - that's over with. To come out here and get on the aggressive track. Finished up spring training strong. I was pleased with the way I threw the ball. Next step is to get better and go from there."

WORRIED?
"There's no panic or anything like that. Just gotta keep going at it every day. Four games are behind us with the one win. We're gonna be fine. There's no issue with anything about dropping a couple games here early on."

If the Cubs don't turn this thing around quickly,

they are going to once again have a big deficit to overcome. And that sucks.

Dude

the Cubs didn't really turn it around last year until JUNE. We're not even done with Opening Week yet! Don't get yourself down!

Aren't you sick of having to wait around year after to year

for the team to start playing good baseball. It's one thing to lose; it's another to play sloppy baseball.

Of course, but if the tradeoff is 4-5 months of truly excellent baseball, I'm willing to put up with it.

Id rather start off slowly and finsih strong

and win the division by two games again

i agree with you...

but Milwaukee did help us out last season. I am not implying anything all i am doing is just saying. All in all as a fan i dont think we can be to happy with the production that is happening on the field. Yes it will probably change, but it is the same as last year. Think if we didnt sign Fukudome....we would still be shutout for the season.

has Fukudome

actually won a game for us?

um no...

i never stated that. But he has been the only consistent offense so far.

and by the way

I tend to agree -- we shouldn't be happy with it. On the other hand, we should recognize that it's early in the season and that the team isn't happy either. I don't think Aramis or Soriano are slacking it off; they're struggling.

I agree

And it bothers me that Cubs fans get on Soriano - We were all excited when we got him, and we all should have known that he could be one of the most streakiest hitters in all of MLB. He is streaking now. Badly.

Aramis will be fine, i am not worried about either one of them. I am worried about the pitching which ironically has been good so far.

I'll be more comfortable

if I see Marquis pitch well tomorrow.

If he does, ironically, it'll be Uncle Ted who has the most to prove. Whodathunkit that Ryan Demptster would be the one Cub pitcher with a W.

yea, the slow start crap has to end....especially with schedule front loaded with home games.

0-2 in 1-run games

For those of you keeping track at home, the Cubbies are 0-2 in one-run games this year...and counting. :-)

OMG WE'RE SO SCREWED NO PLAYOFFS FOR US SORIANO SUXXXXXXXXXXXXX

HAH

just stop... please.... no more.... can't take it.

Soto..

looking good at the plate if not getting results. Thats encouraging

yeah...

seems like he's putting some real nice AB's together.

The Cold

I know it's just an excuse but it seems to be legitimate to me. This team never hits in April and I think the cold has a lot to do with it.

But it didnt affect...

Milwaukee for the two games they one, and HOUSTON for todays game! Our players think about it too much, opposing teams come in and jsut play.

Box Score for Cubs Starters

Sori 0-for-4
Theriot: 1-for-4
Lee: 1-for-4
Ramirez: 1-for-4, R, K
Fukudome: 2-for-4, R
DeRosa: 2-for-4, HR, RBI, R, E
Soto: 1-for-4, 2 RBI
Pie: 0-for-4
Hill: 0-for-1, K

so DeRosa

was the most productive member of the team.

No error on Sori? Huh.

nope, they ruled it a triple

Please Cub fans STOP

But Soriano is soo bad!!!!

It's already been 4 games WHEN IS HE GONNA TURN IT AROUND?!?!

136 PLAYOFFS ARIZONA!!!!

Everybody back on the ledge

Me I have to go off to a film screening so grateful for no
extra innings. Hmm the SI curse is already working on the Cubs
& Tigers

Once Again

poor run support for Hill.

This is exactly

why Lou wanted the player not to be mentioned. Alot of home games early, in the cold. We needed someone at the top to help manufacture runs. Didn't get him. Same slow start.

you can't give up your whole farm system...

for a player who at best is an upper echelon leadoff guy who has seen better days (steriods).

You can

if you're going for broke. If this guy truely is the peice to the puzzle then I see no reason not to blow the load. I'm just not sure how imprtant a new '2nd baseman' will be in the long run. If there are problems late in the season and a trade needs to be made for a stud pitcher then the no trade for 2nd baseman guy looks like a gem.

precisely.

I think we all would love to have a lineup similar to the Met's with a guy like Reyes up front... but that's not in the cards and this still gives us flexibility as the summer consumates.

Rich Hill

Damn, Hill deserved a much better fate.. Where's the offense
