A Bit Of History

I'll post a more complete recap in the morning, but wanted you all to know this: the last time the Cubs won back-to-back extra inning games on the road was...

June 20 and June 21, 1989, coincidentally, also at Pittsburgh.

Night, everyone.

Like my signature says ..

History is about to change ..

interesting

Great signature

I have a feeling it's gonna become an inside joke to all of us who were around tonight :)

HAHA Man I was soooo mad. I know the players are zoned out but I wanted to punt that parrot. What an A$$!!

haha agreed

what kind of stupid hump was that anyway? like a three amigos "UH!"

He was awful.

He should not be allowed to stand there.

I'm still mad about it

We've been rasing hell in the office today about it. Like I said before. If ti was a fan I'd be ok with it. BUT that damn bird was standing up against the net or in the isle distracting. No fan would be allowed to do that. They'd be asked to go to their seat. WTF do birds even 'hump'? I dont think so. That bird is their to entertain the fans and beat up the umps. He's not paid to effect an outcome of a game by distracting the opposing players. BUSH LLLLLEAGUE!

keep that signature

man that parrot was a complete ass last night

The year of

the Candelstick Earthquake? The year the Cubs won the East? Good stuff.

mojo rising

we are now 5-0 in my non-game-thread games. the mojo continues. i was tempted to check in during the late innings to try and break the deadlock...but i resisted.

Keep up the good work!

Again, good teams find ways to win games like this.

Stupid parrot!

I'm just happy

the pirates decided to save meek to blow the game tomorrow

as lou would say

a ugly win is better than a pretty loss

I'm not sure

that I can take this all year.

As Tim McCarver would say,

"No pictures, just numbers." A win is a win is a win. Slow, fast, good pitching, good hitting, pretty, ugly...

Cubs win!! Cubs win!!!

I'm buying a case

of those Monty Python "He's not dead, he's sleeping" dead parrot toys to bring to the bleachers and hand out next time the pirates are in town.

Go Cubs... Go Cubs...

Who's ready for 18 innings tomorrow?

9,12,15,18?

Oh, For Heaven's Sakes...

...no.

The Cubs last year, though, would have found ways to win 1 or both of these last two extra inning games.

I haven't even brought up the 21 inning game on Friday...

It's science!

Uh-oh.

That means 30 innings next Tuesday night. I better bring a pillow.

I'm watching...

I am physically and mentally drained after attending these last two games.

I'm a student teacher so I had to come home tonight and prepare for tomorrow. I didn't get home until midnight. I would have preferred tonights to be on a Friday!!!!!

haha

making you eeearn it!

OMGGGG!!!

NEW POLE!

Who is more annoying?

Eric Young on Baseball Tonight

or

Stupid Parrot

or POLL, whatever. I'm scrambled after today/nights game.

did they already talk about the cubs game on baseball tonight?

beginning or end of the show?

It was the lead story

Pie

Maybe that key hit was just what a struggling Felix needed to get going. Lets hope so...with his D, I think he could be such an important part of this team the rest of year if he could just hold his own at the plate.

Twice I waked away contented

from gameday thinking we had won.

2 rather vile barrages of abuse of the monitor later I was told not to use gameday during work hours anymore!

I was going to ask where you work

and then I saw your screen-name. :D

More Pie.....less filling.....

As soon as Felix stroked the long foul ball into the stands I've knew he turned into Corry Paterson again.... long looping third strike swing rather then shortening up to put the ball in play....... he must drive Perry crazy... Wish I could believe things may change but.........

Gameday

While watching Gameday I noticed that in the last at-bat Pie swung through the first pitch which seemed to be a breaking ball low an outside. Then the pitcher threw one down the middle and Pie had the hit. Kudos to him for getting the hit as many other Cubs saw those pitches and didn't get hits with men on base. As far as his aproach at the plate, I can't attribute him getting that hit to a different approach (except perhaps not going for the fences) since he got a pitch in a place where he can do damage with and didn't lay off a first pitch that was well outside. I think Lou will give him his fair chance, although not everyday starting as some suggest. And even though he didn't start yesterday he got in 4AB which is good.

One other thing I noticed on Gameday...as soon as Kerry gave up the HR he started to throw lots of low 80's pitches with a lot of break (slider/breaking pitches, don't know) and the Pirates missed most of them. Perhaps he still has a remnant mindset of a starter that you "have to establish your fastball early" and that type of stuff which is really not that relevant for a 1 inning reliever. He can go like Hoffman and throw 80% of those breakers mixed in with fastballs well spotted (not in the meat of the zone). Gameday showed him at 95MPH but with only 2" break and those heaters than don't move can go a long way unless they are well spotted in the zone.

you realize

that hit was about six feet right of a home-run, right?

Felix...

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

regarding parrots...

if i was kevin hart, i go nuke laloosh on the thing.

Agree

I was waiting for Lou to go grab a base and beam the parrot with it

pardon my dumb question

Only caught part of the game on the radio... what is this about parrots? something mascot related????

Yes.

The "Pirate Parrot" was making stupid gestures behind the plate. It appeared this might be distracting Cub pitchers, though I think that may be a trick of the camera angle.

No one will complain about this... it's annoying to us Cubs fans, but that's about it. I remember Leo Durocher used to bitch about the scoreboard in the Astrodome, which made loud and annoying noises and light shows (and it was really the first of its kind). Silly and counterproductive, I think. Just play ball.

Either way, a fan would have been removed for doing the same thing. Bush league. I'm 100% sure Hart and Wood would say they never even saw the bird. BUT notice both times the bird did it the Cubs gave up game tie'n home runs. hmmm haha

Let's see if it happens tonight.

Hey Al

Interesting fact for sure. Makes me think, has a series ever went to extras in all three games with having the same team win each game? Something to ponder on this rainy day as we wait for tonight.

Oh, no!

Don't even THINK that.
