for those wondering. ball hit sharply off counsel, theriot diggs for 3rd, but Prince gets ball and throws him out. Also close play on lee going for second.
Leave Artie McStrawman alone. You said “enough of the homerism”. If someone from the other side says the same thing, is it really homerism? Answer: No.
from the other team agrees, while 10-12 people from here say he’s automatically safe doesn’t constitute homerism?
I didn’t misinterpret anything, I’m saying that once he was tagged, people automatically thought he was safe because a) the crowd boo’ed, b) Piniella came out and c) it was a close call. It could have gone two ways, yes, but the sudden comments brought up right afterwards only went one way.
Before you try to correct me, read what I’m really trying to say before you get offended.
Maybe you should read what other people said instead of telling me to read yours, which I characterized correctly. I don’t think anyone based their decision on “the crowd booing” or “Piniella coming out” or just because it was a “close call”. They made their decisions based on ….. the replay …. that they saw … with their own eyes …
And it’s not just one fan over there. Go count them at bizarro BCB. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Just about everyone who piped up over there agrees it was a bad call. I’m not offended, just stating what’s obvious to anyone who doesn’t want to cry “homerism”.
Fukudome’s foot BEAT THE TAG! Under no circumstances were you right. Whether or not the basis of anyone else’s argument is solid doesn’t make your statement any less wrong.
Yes, but you're still mischaracterizing what I said.
My comment was, “It’s not just homerism.” Then I quoted the opinion of a Brewers fan, who could not possibly be a homer. I didn’t say, “One fan from Brew Crew Ball said it, therefore it’s true,” which is what you keep clinging to.
were based on seeing the replay (at least mine were), not the fan reaction on TV.
The call was incorrect. Doesn’t matter whether people were saying it for the right or wrong reasons. It was the INCORRECT call. You replied saying it was the correct call. That was also INCORRECT. Trying to rationalize it is silly.
The call was out, but it was not the correct call.
And as northsider noted, it’s not a “homer” thing to say that Fukudome should have been called safe. It’s just a rational statement based on the replay.
when dome slid. umps are sposed to be absolutely still when judging a play. its better to have part of the play blocked from your view then to be moving like that – he couldnt see anything.
if there is an accent over the “a”, then it would be pronounced: MAR-mole.
I didn’t know there was an accent over the “a.”
In either case, he “a” makes an “ah” sound, and the o makes an “oh” sound. If the accent is on the “a”, then the first syllable is said with more emphasis.
Who thinks Bob is going to do a repeat of the 7th from last year? Last year he sang, "Root, root root for the Brewers, and you can do the same for the cubs, cuz it’s one, two…….."
should be a requirement I think, but then again, about only one in ten people actually get all the words correct. I know, I know, it is a difficult bunch of lyrics.
He’s hitting 1.000 in May. He also helped young inner-city youths in Arlington Heights on how to stay off drugs, and saved a kid from being run over by a car before the game.
I hate this game....what a freaking heartbreaking game....I screamed the F bomb
at work…....man I am sick…...the Brewers have our number…..talk about turning this week around real quick….wow….....I was so pumped and now just sick….I hate the Brewers
i have come to the conclusion that people on this board love it when the Cubs are losing, hense:
1. they only come on at this time 2. they love to bitch and bash but not back up their statements 3. they continue to post the same ideas about how this team sucks in more than one post
come over here and bash the Cubs, at least they say they don’t like the Cubs. It’s like the trolls here have some kind of annoy-the-hell-out-of-everyone magic to alert them once the Cubs are losing.
Record really doesnt mean much at the beginning of the year.
Sure im happy we are up there, but we are the same Cubs that you can never feel safe with no matter close the game is to being over. You always have to prepare yourself for the heartbreaking loss. I let my guard down this year early and it was a mistake cause we still have the same heartbreaking losses.
I hate when everyone on here wants to jump down your throat if your unhappy about a loss, but you act as if the Cubs arent well known for breaking their fans hearts year after year. Did i say i couldnt handle it NO…im saying i let my guard down early this year and expected to be able to close out wins thats all.
this year, it just knots my stomach when you lose a game like this. Especially against the team that is your main rival for the division. Not that it’s any easier to swallow if it was the Reds or Pirates, but we had this game in the bag, mostly. That’s why they play the games and we feel like this when they lose.
Well...the Brewers OWN our butts at this point....regardless of last night's game....
They have taken the wind outta our sails…came into our house and took 4 of 6…....really not cool to let them do that….especially when Zambrano has pitched two great games against them and we lost both of them thanks to crappy bullpen…....hate to say it but we can’t feel good right now about the bullpen (except Marmol) or the situation in the Central….we don’t get to play the Pirates all season…..
HELL NO. Someone PLEASE explain to me who comes in with 1st/3rd one out and gets out of that jam? And oh yeah, shuts em down in order the next inning. If Woody blew the game there you’d all still be whining. Instead of just complaining about everything, how about someone offers up a better solution? It’s really easy to bitch when things don’t work out, it’s a lot harder to know how to fix that problem.
Marmol pitches 2 innings, like the good old days. Start stretching him out gradually now and by mid-season he’ll be ready to come in the 8th and get the job done.
that i’ve loved and cheered on and believed in since 3rd grade (in waukegan, illinois) but i still believe…. year after year, i still believe this year will be different. and hopefully it is.
Actually I was worried about it before he came back. Sorry if that is upsetting, I just don’t see anything good coming from him at all, granted he’s just off an injury, but we didn’t seem to miss him when he was gone.
it was so funny because we were discussing it yesterday that after everyone was excietd last night, if the cubs lost today, the trolls would come back and everyone would be in a panic mode!
who never seem at all bothered by a Cubs loss. But I guess that’s what makes you a true fan and the rest of us, who actually are bothered by blowing a late inning lead to one of our main rivals, trolls.
I’m bothered. It sucks to lose a game like this. But I’m not going to damn Soriano or Kerry Wood to hell because of it. I’m going to keep a positive outlook - this team has been dominating at times - and hope that tomorrow they play better.
They didn’t trail the entire game. They played well. Two mistakes in the ninth cost us the game.
Every time anybody criticizes the Cubs for bad baseball
people like you refer to it as “bitching and whining”. I’m sure in your world we should blindly cheer everything the Cubs do but, unfortuantely, there are a lot of us out there who love the Cubs and are hurt when we see them lose.
look I am ok with people being pissed off because of games like these
but people who come on this board immediately when they are about to blow it or are losing (the only time they are ever on!) and bash about how such and such player sucks and is the worst player ever. You don’t like losing, but you can’t change the past. Games like this happen. Rivera, Papelbon, and Wagner have blown saves in their career as well..
Maybe you are but there seem to be a lot of people
on this thread who seem to never ever want to criticize the cubs. No matter how you look at it, this is a heartbreaking loss and anybody who isn’t hurt by it simply isn’t a real fan.
and if you read a ton of my posts last season I always bitched after a loss. I am fine with that, but the people who consistantly come on this board when the Cubs aren’t performing well and continue to bash without supporting their argument (ie. OMG WOOD SUCKS HE IS AWFUL! Wood has blown too many saves? How many is this he is awful!) are complete nuisances.
Bummer loss. But we’re just out of first place and we’ve got 134 more to play.
Its more important how we react to this loss than the loss itself. Bounce back and beat down the Cards and we’ll forget about this.
Only worry here is Sori. He’s played terrible and the manager and team have to play to his ego rather than put him wherever they want, which includes hitting lower and defensive substitutions. Tha’s a crappy situation for a manager and team to be in.
Was listening to the game so I want to know should Soriano have caught that.....
ball in the 9th??? Sounds like it….if he makes that catch then maybe Wood gets the save??? Isn’t it funny how Soriano comes back and this happens??? Lou just went off on a reporter…..cursed…..
These things do happen, gotta take the hat off for the Brewers, they kept it close the entire game and made us pay in the end with good hitting. Tough to swallow yes, but NOT the end of the world. We’ll get back on track, we’ve got the talent.
OT- Anyone else noticed on May 22nd of the Cubs.com schedule there is a picture of Indiana Jones.
I honestly just feel sick after games like these. Im gonna watch tommorow im gonna root them on for life, but these losses truly make me sick and it takes me all night to eat.
A reporter asked him something, I couldn't quite make it out...
...and he said something like, “Of course, I thought about it. What, do you think I’m stupid?” Then he paused and started to say, “Goddamnit.” But he caught himself and said, “Goshdarnit,” and then basically got up and left.
I think the Yankees have proved that a lineup of stars doesn’t always mean WS titles. I like the lineup w/o soriano, but can’t think of what can be done.
There’s just no incentive for Sori to do well, and that is the single problem I believe. If he’s on DL and the manager already says he’s leading off, playing LF, why would he have to feel he’s got to get back and prove himself. If he’s getting $130 mn whether he does well or not, where’s the incentive. This is a tough situation to move forward with.
I think Lou can handle it, but its got to be tough.
Kapler reached out and poked the ball, so it appeared to be a routine fly. That said I still wonder if Sori isn’t a bit gun shy because of his injury history. Braun’s hit was a bit harder and deeper, not sure why Kosuke wasn’t playing at the warning track to begin with.
If some chose to live in denial on this subject, then so be it. Carlos Marmol and Jon Lieber are the only two who have gotten the job done. It’s as sadly simple as that. We will go nowhere as a ballclub until we resolve the closer job and middle relief.
but, there is no question that soriano should have caught the ball. if that doesn’t happen, we’re not talking about this and you’re talking about something else negatively.
and as long as he remains are closer, we’re not going anywhere. I’m not crazy about the idea of changing marmol from set-up to closer but a few more outings like this from Wood and i don’t know if he’ll have any other choice.
MVP's of the game....Zambrano, Fuku, Geo, Marmol....
billy goats of the day…Soriano (he should have caught that ball) and Wood (never start off by hitting the lead off man).........two guys waste the great effort of a bunch of other guys…....well onward we go…..
folks, 17-11, horrible loss, can’t dwell on it. Cards are in first, have to go play in well in StLouis. Can sit back and pick this game a part, doesn’t do a bit of good. In 162 games you are going to have some tough losses, this just happens to be one of them. Go Cubs, beat the birds this weekend.
Lou probably needs to plan for a defensive replacement in left. Soriano should have caught that ball but Fukudome also should have caught Braun’s ball. He got a bad jump. This bullpen is not doing the job. But they have to forget this one and win the series from the Cards. That will put us back in 1st place.
I think the Cubs have a strong chance, and obviously don’t agree that the idea is stupid. But I really think we have to make some changes. We cannot keep chugging along without stirring some things up to get the best possible outcomes. I think this game would have been won if a few things were changed by Lou. Also, we need to beat the Cardinals, just as bad as we needed to beat the Brewers. Can’t keep losing to the teams in our division that are right above or below us.
Before the season if we were told this team would start 17-11, we would have all been overjoyed, especially with the start of last seaon.
Last night this board made it sound like we were watching the greatest baseball team ever assembled and now today they can’t do anything right? Don’t get too high or low here people.
Yes, today’s loss is tough to take, and there are some holes on this team, but there are holes on every team. We are 28 games into a 162 game schedule. Chances are pretty high that the team that takes the field in October won’t be the same team that took the field today.
is stupid, but realistically speaking the Cubs are there with the better clubs of the NL. Now maybe you can argue that the NL as a whole is weak, but if that’s what it takes for the Cubs to win then I’ll take it.
but we have owned the Cardinals over the last few years. It’s time to find out if the Cards are for real. The fact is they have had the easiest April schedule in baseball. So, we’ll see.
The former would be apt to maintain the status quo and put a fuzzy spin on mistakes and boneheadedness, whereas the current actively tries to correct the team’s flaws.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see Trammell at the top of the dugout broadly indicating to the OFers where they should be playing each batter, and Lieber to start seeing more action in the 8th and 9th.
like most fans will do. Wood needs to stop putting the first man on. Those of you who want to limit Marmol to the ninth inning have to agree that this game would have been blown alot sooner if Howry or Wood had to come in earlier with first and third.
I suppose I’m considered one, so let me just explain that the reason I don’t post when they win is because I feel they’re supposed to. Sort of like end zone celebrations – I don’t like them because scoring is what the player is supposed to do as a matter of course, unless the guy is a total scrub.
But the Cubs aren’t scrubs. They have talent. I’m happy when they win, but I don’t overtly praise and cheer them because, with the talent they’ve assembled, winning on a regular basis should be expected. Especially when you’re up 3-1 at home going into the ninth. So when they underachieve as they did today, I’m going to be upset and blow off steam.
Not sure you all understand, and I’m not sure it matters whether you do or not, but I’m just giving you an inside look into how I roll.
for me to be in here and share good plays and awful plays with the people who post here. We can’t be at the games to cheer in person so we do it here. We do get upset when they make horrible plays but it’s not the end of the world like some believe it is. Some of the stuff said repeatedly is what bothers me. Saying it over and over does not change anything. If they said it once and moved on that would be fine.
Not normally someone who will rant but….. Mr. Soriano you are not a good baseball player. You are not a good hitter, yes you get into good streaks but when the team needs a solid at bat you are not the guy to call on. You are not a good fielder even though you seem to have the speed and throwing arm to actually be adequate, and maybe even a plus fielder. You should not be hitting lead off nor should you be playing late in games, you have become a role player for a very good team. No, you are not the only one to blame for this loss, Lou should have put Reed Johnson in left to replace you. Kerry should not have hit the lead off man or given up a line drive triple. Kosuke might have been playing a little shallow. With all that said, did you see the catch that Reed Johnson made last week?
He was playing a little shallow for the situation and let a ball get over his head in the ninth, letting the winning run score. His play was in no way the determining factor in this loss, Wood and Soriano are the culprits.
There were any number of people to blame for this loss, I tend to put the blame on mental errors more than say making an error on a ball that takes a bad hop. Soriano misplayed that ball, Fukudome was playing a little shallow, Wood hit the first batter he faced, all of these things happened in the 9th, sure things could have been different if they don’t send Fukudome or if he’s safe at the plate. Zambrano pitched well, Marmol pitched good enough, the offence got enough runs to have a lead against a tough pitcher, it was all set up for the last inning. Hey it didn’t go well and we’ll go get em tomorrow.
What is this “injury delay”?? Anything notable?
Canseco's Roid Party - May 1, 2008
Gallardo faked an injury.
lemon20pie - May 1, 2008
Soriano
needs to be more patient
PieFan08 - May 1, 2008
Wow...sure glad Soriano is adding that much needed ooomph to the top of the lineup!
What is the point of leading him off when things were working so well? Anyways, have to listen to this game at work so “GO CUBS GO!!!”
razzpunk - May 1, 2008

Stupid Ryan Braun!!!! Google eyed freak!!!! Dang it!!!!!
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Wow
Reed Johnson does have a tendency to be a sort of ballhog out there, but that was probably his ball to catch
nji232 - May 1, 2008
Ofcourse that was his to catch
He’s the CF….When he is calling for it, the RF needs to get the feek out of the way.
lemon20pie - May 1, 2008
Cripes!!!!!! Great....boneheaded play in the outfield and now we blow it!!!!
Come on Cubs get your heads outta your butts!!! Man oh man….soon as I start listening to the game…BLAMMO…crap starts happening….

Fielder thrown out at the plate
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Hall hit it into Right
Fielder tried to score. Fukudome took him OUT with a strike to Soto.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Dome made up for his mental error earlier in the inning
and threw Fielder out at home on a single. Fielder barrelled into Soto who hung on to the ball for 3rd out of inning

My question is: why in the world is he running on Fukudome's arm?
northsider - May 1, 2008
Yost
has apparently substituted his third base coach with Wavin Wendle (sp?)
gwood - May 1, 2008
Wendall, as in Wendall Kim
but since some of us seem to think he’s become Dusty, it wouldn’t surprise me. heh.
northsider - May 1, 2008
To be honest...

SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
FYI - Brenly agrees...
it was a high hit, but not a dirty play. Just good hard baseball.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Even so.
It looked like he was trying to elbow him in the face. I realize it’s a hard play, but still.
At least we can take heart that it wasn’t Barrett, who probably would have slugged him. ; )
northsider - May 1, 2008

I was arguing with the “dirty” part.
If it was intentional, it was dirty. I do not think it was intentional. Thus, I think it was not dirty.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Semantics.
I said I thought it was dirty, but it also could have been inadvertent. You win, congratulations.
northsider - May 1, 2008
You didn't say "I thought."
You said “that was a little dirty.”
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008

My replies to your “I thought it was inadvertant” weren’t arguing. Just pointing out my view of the play. I agree that neither of us can know what is actually the case. Please don’t take it so contentiously.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Soto's got balls of steel for hangin' in there on that play.
I gotta see the replay…there will probably be a video clip up on gameday.
daver - May 1, 2008
That's why
i love gameday 2008 b/c they have more video clips. Even got to see Gallardo’s injury
gwood - May 1, 2008

Just Saw the replay in the boss' office.
Soto had to be sh*ttin his pants.
Jayo525 - May 1, 2008
Just watched it on gameday myself.
Soto rolled with it really well. Killer throw by Dome!
daver - May 1, 2008
Great throw...
Fielder’s not the fastest guy, but that was a really good throw.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Now that play at the plate needs to SPARK our offense!!! That is the kind of play...
that should be a turning point! Let’s GO CUBS!!!!! Yeah, the Brewers have thrown a couple cheap shots on the basepaths this series…..

Soto is lucky Jones isn't in right anymore
Soto would’ve still been waiting for the ball as it rolled to him and Fielder would’ve knocked him unconscious.

Correction
Dome is good.
Reddevil - May 1, 2008
Sorry, I meant to type snappy.
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
No
since “is scrappy” is usually a sarcastic synonym for “sucks”
northsider - May 1, 2008
Cmon, Dome
Just get a hit.

Fukumania - May 1, 2008
ITS FAIR!
Reddevil - May 1, 2008
FAIR BALL!
Ramirez scores, Fukudome out at the plate. But it’s Cubs 3, Brewers 1.
northsider - May 1, 2008
Piniella out to argue
He’s ticked.
And I think he has a good case. It looks like Fukudome got in under the high tag.
northsider - May 1, 2008
GEO!
scores Ramirez, Fukudome out at the plate. Pinella’s arguing.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
DOme was safe

Fukumania - May 1, 2008
GEO!!
Is Lou out there???
Lou In Blue - May 1, 2008
I'd rather have our
pen, even with middle relievers, than theirs!
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
dome was safe by a lot
and it was pretty clear. crappy tag by kendall
joeschmitt - May 1, 2008
You mean scrappy tag?
; )
northsider - May 1, 2008
He was safe...
that’s the classic “ball beat the runner” call. But Fukudome definitely tagged the base before Kendall tagged him.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Weird play
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Whatttt no
Jayo525 - May 1, 2008
He got under that tag.
Total bs.
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Dome was robbed.
Reddevil - May 1, 2008
Damn, he actually was safe.
Ah well, the ball beat him by a mile. Two good throws by the Brewers that inning.
buckmulligan - May 1, 2008
what happened???
gameday not telling.
mrbubs - May 1, 2008
Fukudome slid his leg under in between Kendall
but Kendall got his arm. It looks like he got his leg on base before he was tagged, but eh.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
He was out
come on, enough of the homerism. He was out, next inning we go.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
No, he really wasn't. All homerism aside.
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
It's not just homerism
– roguejim, from Brew Crew Ballnorthsider - May 1, 2008
So because a guy from BrewCrew says it,
it’s automatically true?
Good enough for me. We’re just gonna have to disagree on this.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Um, no?
Leave Artie McStrawman alone. You said “enough of the homerism”. If someone from the other side says the same thing, is it really homerism? Answer: No.
northsider - May 1, 2008
Look at what I said, dude.
“We’re just gonna have to disagree on this”
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Well okay, but if you're going to mischaracterize what I said like that, I'm going to correct you, regardless whether you agree.
northsider - May 1, 2008
Alright, so one fan
from the other team agrees, while 10-12 people from here say he’s automatically safe doesn’t constitute homerism?
I didn’t misinterpret anything, I’m saying that once he was tagged, people automatically thought he was safe because a) the crowd boo’ed, b) Piniella came out and c) it was a close call. It could have gone two ways, yes, but the sudden comments brought up right afterwards only went one way.
Before you try to correct me, read what I’m really trying to say before you get offended.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Haha, there you go again.
Also, cheese. Go Cubs.
northsider - May 1, 2008
I saw it REAL TIME
before I even looked at the replay….seriously.
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
Then you, sir, have better eyes than mine.
northsider - May 1, 2008
I do have good eyes and always have
but the 65” HD helps alot! :-)
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
Mine is only 53. A-ha!
northsider - May 1, 2008
LOL!
:-)
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
That wasn't even the basis of your primary argument
But whatever, you’re right, I’ll leave it alone.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Who cares what the basis is?
Fukudome’s foot BEAT THE TAG! Under no circumstances were you right. Whether or not the basis of anyone else’s argument is solid doesn’t make your statement any less wrong.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Did I not just say he was CORRECT?
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Yes, but you're still mischaracterizing what I said.
My comment was, “It’s not just homerism.” Then I quoted the opinion of a Brewers fan, who could not possibly be a homer. I didn’t say, “One fan from Brew Crew Ball said it, therefore it’s true,” which is what you keep clinging to.
northsider - May 1, 2008
Sweet mother of Mary, let this end.
northsider, you’re right about every possible facet of this argument, in every way shape and form, without any exception whatsoever about anything.
10 minutes later, SouthernCub will come in just to argue more.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Come on guys.
Let’s just cheer for the Cubs to win.
sue369 - May 1, 2008
LSA
Which they are, thankfully!
northsider - May 1, 2008
haha
Can I print this out to show my mother?
northsider - May 1, 2008
(who thinks I'm never right, and is actually probably not wrong herself)
northsider - May 1, 2008
No need to be rude about it...
Dude, you were wrong. All I did was present arguments as to why you were wrong. No need to make rude comments.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
And he shows.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Good one...
you’re so clever – make rude comments and I’ll respond.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Yes, after making a snippy comment about it...
But since at least you seem to realize that he was actually safe, that’s all that mattered.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
The reactions on this thread...
were based on seeing the replay (at least mine were), not the fan reaction on TV.
The call was incorrect. Doesn’t matter whether people were saying it for the right or wrong reasons. It was the INCORRECT call. You replied saying it was the correct call. That was also INCORRECT. Trying to rationalize it is silly.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
LSA
northsider - May 1, 2008
No, what makes it true...
is that his foot beat the tag.
The call was out, but it was not the correct call.
And as northsider noted, it’s not a “homer” thing to say that Fukudome should have been called safe. It’s just a rational statement based on the replay.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
LSA
northsider - May 1, 2008
Yep, go watch the replay on Gameday.
Dome’s foot hits the plate before Kendall applies the tag. Very close play, but the ump got it wrong.
daver - May 1, 2008
it was not the correct call.
Word.
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
We’re just gonna have to disagree on this.
Having a great HD bigscreen, I saw it during the play that Fuku slid under the tag.
And then the replay from several angles confirmed it.
Fuku was indeed robbed, and I hop it doesn’t come back to bite us in the end.
I’m just sayin…
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
more LSA
northsider - May 1, 2008
damn
guess that did come back to bite us in the end…
gocubsgoradio720 - May 1, 2008
Well
Yup! :)
roguejim - May 1, 2008
Bob
even said he was safe.
sue369 - May 1, 2008
Take a look
at where the tag was…on the shoulder. However, that’s the equivalent to the neighbourhood call at 2nd…never give it to you.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
What's up with Sinatro's arm/elbow?
Was he wearing that brace last night?
gewurztraminer - May 1, 2008
Whenever a hitter who wears it at the plate...
...gets on base, Sinatro takes it and holds onto it by putting it on his elbow
lemon20pie - May 1, 2008
Makes sense
Thanks
gewurztraminer - May 1, 2008
Sinatro...
I think he just puts those ankle/elbow protectors that various guys wear so he doesn’t have to hold them while they are on base.
cubbot - May 1, 2008
Z still in?
He’s up around 90 pitches, no?
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Try over 100
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Instant replay in baseball anyone??
n/t
cubsonWGN4ever - May 1, 2008
No.
The game is too long as it is. And the Umps really do do a good job. We get our breaks, too. Like that HR call on the road.
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
true
good call on the HR – just feel bad for Dome
cubsonWGN4ever - May 1, 2008
Now, will Z come back out now that we have a two run lead?
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
He was safe....GRRRRRRR...but we have the lead....now lets hold on baby!!!
razzpunk - May 1, 2008

they are now referred to as “the islands.”

Yeah I’m wrong, and I also steal baby kittens.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
We need an appeal...
Find that Supreme Court Justice….
CubsBullsBears - May 1, 2008
LOL
fischisgod - May 1, 2008
I would love to see Lou arguing a case before a Supreme Court justice.
I can just see him taking the smooth, polished, lawyerly approach, strong rhetoric, and then just going nuts and kicking dirt on his black robe. haha
northsider - May 1, 2008
He was safe....
but the ball beat the runner by enough
fischisgod - May 1, 2008
the ump was moving around too much
when dome slid. umps are sposed to be absolutely still when judging a play. its better to have part of the play blocked from your view then to be moving like that – he couldnt see anything.
joeschmitt - May 1, 2008
Well one on with one out now....anyone up in the pen????
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Marmol

Canseco's Roid Party - May 1, 2008
Why not Onedec?
Come on Lou
gwood - May 1, 2008
was marmol's name ever settled?
is it “mar-mel” or “mar-MOLE” ?
i like “mar-mel” a lot better, like how len and bob say it. “mar-MOLE” is how the national guys say it.
joeschmitt - May 1, 2008
This is a good question, I don't know.
northsider - May 1, 2008
In Spanish...
it is pronounced “mar-MOLE”
but that’s often not how American play-by-play guys pronounce things.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Mar-MOLE
He’s got an accent over the a, which you’d pronounce it like that.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Actually...
if there is an accent over the “a”, then it would be pronounced: MAR-mole.
I didn’t know there was an accent over the “a.”
In either case, he “a” makes an “ah” sound, and the o makes an “oh” sound. If the accent is on the “a”, then the first syllable is said with more emphasis.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
I described my post wrong
you’re right, that’s what I was trying to get at.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008

My heart is pounding…..oh my god it’s Uecker singing….we gonna let Brennaman sing next time??
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Whew!
That is yet another reason why Marmol is more valuable to the team in the middle innings role and not as closer.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
at least as a reliever
fischisgod - May 1, 2008
You've gotta respect Uecker

i’ll give him that.

crw89 - May 1, 2008
I love Uek, too
but he is pushing it when he comes down to sing…
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
No way
He handles the stretch great and laughs along with the crowd.
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
Yeah, at least he acknowledges that we "do the same for the Cubs." He's no Marty Brennaman.
northsider - May 1, 2008
Wheee....now we get to hit against the Brewer pen!!!!
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
This should be fun :)
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
Yeah, that was a perfect Marmol usage time. It’s like he is looking ahead to that K pitch the whole time, even while getting down 3-0.
Canseco's Roid Party - May 1, 2008
Think Yost infection
will try Turnbow?
HAHA
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
Turnblow is my hero.
daver - May 1, 2008
chuck norris
can we have a new chuck norris on our hands
carlos marmol doesnt sleep he waits
dariot2 - May 1, 2008
Bob Uecker
Who thinks Bob is going to do a repeat of the 7th from last year? Last year he sang, "Root, root root for the Brewers, and you can do the same for the cubs, cuz it’s one, two…….."
adam316 - May 1, 2008
He already did....
And yes, he did….
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
Well that answers it.
He pretty much said the same thing except “I always root”
adam316 - May 1, 2008
Singing the song correctly
should be a requirement I think, but then again, about only one in ten people actually get all the words correct. I know, I know, it is a difficult bunch of lyrics.
adam316 - May 1, 2008
Usually, yes
But I think a hall-of-famer Mr. Baseball can change it up a little.
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
Relax.
He’s having fun with it. Besides, which would you rather have; this or Ozzy?
Cool Hand - May 1, 2008
I'll take an order of Turnbow please......
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Yikes...kind of poopy pitching matchups against the Cards......
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
One order of Turnbow
and a side of Gag-me, coming up, Sir. (we can hope)
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
Fonty
scrapps his way on.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Scrappy #2!
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
"That guy's been hot! Wow!" - Bob Uecker on Fontenot
Oh, he’s a jokester too, folks!
northsider - May 1, 2008
pitching
rather have good ones against the brewers than the cards
dariot2 - May 1, 2008
Good hit Fonty! Uggghhh....Soriano is up....oh well.....
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
C'mon, Alfonso, give us some hope.
daver - May 1, 2008
Sori
pops out.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Uh, well, he did hit in the air. Progress?
daver - May 1, 2008
Kinda funny how we gotta wait till our number 2 hitter comes up for our lead off man to hit
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
he didn't do any better
FWIW.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Sori
is really bad so far. I know its his first game back. C’mon
PieFan08 - May 1, 2008
Wow...
was that boos already for Fonzie?
MillsChC - May 1, 2008
He scrapped it too hard.
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Could leadoff be in Sori's contract
Do you guys think there was a clause in his contract that said he had to bat leadoff??
PieFan08 - May 1, 2008
if that were the case
why would he say publically that he’d do anything Lou wanted him to?
I think Lou knows he’s comfortable there, and wants to give him a LITTLE bit of time after he comes back from the DL.
Wow. Al must be having a GREAT time.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Yeah he has that
It specifically says he has to hit leadoff except for Games #1 & 2 of the season
MillsChC - May 1, 2008
lol
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Crazy lawyers.
daver - May 1, 2008
Who's pitching the 8th?
n/t
Lou In Blue - May 1, 2008
Good question. No way it's Howry.
daver - May 1, 2008
Marmol
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Well Marmol meets the heart of the Brewer lineup.....
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
nervous now.................
plenz - May 1, 2008
Already?
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
it's about that time...
northsider - May 1, 2008
WHOA!
A not-bad-looking girl in the crowd held up a sign that asked someone to “Give Prom with Me a Shot!” Who are these guys turning her down??
northsider - May 1, 2008
PIE IS IN!
Our offense is saved
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Marmol is
Devin Hester “ridiculous”
plenz - May 1, 2008
Braun goes down!
3 batters, 3 ks for Marmol.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
K
ROFL
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Does braun look at little like....
CubsBullsBears - May 1, 2008
is that
Harry Connick.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Yeah
CubsBullsBears - May 1, 2008
fat ass is still tired from his jaunt sround the bases
plenz - May 1, 2008
Marmol = K's
crw89 - May 1, 2008
FOUR Ks for Marmol!
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
another one bites the dust
Hey Moe - May 1, 2008
Fielder strikes out called.
NICE
northsider - May 1, 2008
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
UNHITABLE
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Hart just bunted for a base hit.
So, not quit. :P
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
"buntable"?
northsider - May 1, 2008
NEXT
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Jinx
n/t
MillsChC - May 1, 2008
MARMOL!!!!! Wow...just wow....Corey Hart is a coward!!!!
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
I almost feel
bad for the Brewers hitters…almost.
Smart bunt by Hart…avoids the K…reaches base.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
MAX WHO?
xene - May 1, 2008
Hart punks out
“No way I’m trying to hit that.”
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Does Fielder look a little like....
Lou In Blue - May 1, 2008
hey hey hey
FAAAAT Albert!
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Yes, but with baggier clothes.
northsider - May 1, 2008
Woody is warming up
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
I really HATE Corey Hart....he bugs me tons.....
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
0-2
Come on Marmol!
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Barely got a peice.
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Marmol bringing the extra nasty today
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Hall pops up!
three outs!
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Billy Hally
flies out to Fukudome!
northsider - May 1, 2008
Marmol is a God.
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Inning over...Marmol is better than Joba if only ESPN noticed....
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Marmol plays way too far west for that to happen ; )
northsider - May 1, 2008
true!
crw89 - May 1, 2008
If Marmol played for the Yankees...
...ESPN would interrupt broadcasts of other teams’ games to show him pitching.
daver - May 1, 2008
Marmol is way better
and maybe if we had an owner like hank steinbrenner (say maybe cuban) we would get as much coverage on ESPN as the yankees (sarcasm font in use).
gwood - May 1, 2008
nice outs for Marmol
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
Wow, this is weird
usually MLB.tv blacks out in between innings, this time it didn’t.
And the cameraman zoomed in a blonde for a good 20 seconds. Perv
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Nice part is Woody won't have to face the meat of the Brewer lineup.....
Why not score some insurance runs though just for giggles…...
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Case and point
as to why Marmol is more valuable as a set up man. Would you have rather seen Wood instead of Marmol just now? I would guess not.
gwood - May 1, 2008
i love you marmol.
Canseco's Roid Party - May 1, 2008
Lee
flies out.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Lee fouls out down RF line.
Nice catch by Hart.
northsider - May 1, 2008
Yikes
That’s a scary Cubs/Cardinals pitching matchup this weekend
MillsChC - May 1, 2008
which are???
xene - May 1, 2008
Anyone not named Zambrano or Dempster for us...
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Matchups:
Friday: Hill/Wainwright
Saturday: Lilly/Lohse
Sunday: Marquis/Wellemeyer
cubbot - May 1, 2008
Yeah
that firghtens me.
sue369 - May 1, 2008
Aram Ks
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Marmol laughs in the face of death.....he might just strike God out if given the chance....
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Hill, Lilly, Marquix
Hey Moe - May 1, 2008
CUBS vs CARDS matchups
This game comes first, but after that:
FRI: Hill (1-0, 3.79) vs Wainwright (3-1, 2.79)
SAT: Lilly (1-4, 6.46) vs Lohse (3-0, 2.36)
SUN: Marquis (1-1, 4.45) vs Wellemeyer (2-1, 4.14)
northsider - May 1, 2008
Looks like 3 Cubbie wins!!!!!!!
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
soriano will win it for us on sat and sunday.
xene - May 1, 2008
I'm going to have faith in our bats
Jobu has RUM!
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Crikey, Aramis has K'd three times today. That's unusual.
daver - May 1, 2008
was just about to say the same thing...
He’s usually pretty good at avoiding the K
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Criminee, Soriano is 0-4 today
but that’s not unusual
Hey Moe - May 1, 2008
I don't see why he couldn't go through the minors first
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
EGO
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
Agreed...
if nothing else to see a few “almost MLB quality” pitches for a game or two.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Maybe it's politics?
Doesn’t sit well having all that money being paid to play in the minors…?
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
I think Canadian Cubs Fan is right...
it’s ego. Soriano wants to rush back, and doesn’t think he needs a game or two in the minors first.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
you're prolly right
and I agree that he SHOULD have to ease back into it through the minors.
Why put the club at risk by playing shitty?
Plus, heck – it might even keep him from reinjuring his leg by trying too hard too fast….
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
I think he has enough
major league experience where he can veto such a move, like Sosa did a few years back
gwood - May 1, 2008
Dome is 4 for 4 today
Hey Moe - May 1, 2008
*Yawn*
Dome being Dome.
northsider - May 1, 2008
FUKU
is the MONSTER
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
Fuke
is my hero. Should be hitting 2nd though.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
4-4 Fukudome!
n/t
Lou In Blue - May 1, 2008
Unstoppable.
daver - May 1, 2008
Fuke
Definately needs to move to 2nd. He isnt much of an RBI guy.
PieFan08 - May 1, 2008
Agreed...
but Piniella seems adamant about “splitting up the RH bats.”
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Is it possible for the votes
to tie resulting in Co-Rookies of the Year
MillsChC - May 1, 2008
Fuku....4 for 4.....man he is all that he was advertised to be....Soto and Fuku fight it out
for rookie of the year?????
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Apparently the SI Cover didn't hex Fuku today
JFCubFan - May 1, 2008
Fuku can only be cursed by the Japanese cover of SI
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
exactly.
xene - May 1, 2008
Actually, Fukudome can't be cursed. By trying, now SI is cursed, doomed to losing subscribers and money and .... wait ... Fukudome works quickly.
northsider - May 1, 2008
Is the SI issue out yet?
PieFan08 - May 1, 2008
read mine yesterday.
billywan - May 1, 2008
Have it in my hands
JFCubFan - May 1, 2008
4-4
He’s hitting 1.000 in May. He also helped young inner-city youths in Arlington Heights on how to stay off drugs, and saved a kid from being run over by a car before the game.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
You forgot how he spent all night cooking breakfast for the homeless
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
"inner-city youths in Arlington Heights" is an oxymoron
And should I know, because I live there.
daver - May 1, 2008
You mean the mean-street products of Buffalo Grove High School
aren’t juvenile delinquents?
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
My 'hood is a dangerous place.
The other day someone’s automatic lawn sprinkler went off, and I got soaked.
daver - May 1, 2008
D'oh.
Picked off.
northsider - May 1, 2008
don;t you mean
D’oh-mey?
gwood - May 1, 2008
D'oh-vey!
A little culture mix :)
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
the SI HEX MUST BE REAL!!!
neifi - May 1, 2008

Johnny Woo Woo - May 1, 2008

KC in OK - May 1, 2008
Ughhh.....son of a b.....Counsell is pesky and now I feel ill.....
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Buckle down, Wood...
Don’t let the leadoff HBP get you in trouble.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Hate the HBP
but glad it was that little weasel.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
Favorable count for Wood....
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
Damn Soriano
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008

Hey Moe - May 1, 2008
HE did this in the

DUDE!!
The E-Man - May 1, 2008

Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
WOW
Jayo525 - May 1, 2008
time to bear down
Woody.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
What happened?
Did he do the patented Mis-play?
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
Hmm...
Well, not much room for error now.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Did he miss the catch? Or unplayable?
Jayo525 - May 1, 2008
it was playable
neifi - May 1, 2008
He misplayed it...it went over his head

Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
Uh, not yet.
daver - May 1, 2008
Did he at least
Get a good jump AT it?
The Ryno and I Know - May 1, 2008

Jayo525 - May 1, 2008
Well this sucks.....why oh why?????
razzpunk - May 1, 2008

Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
Not a good time to join in.
daver - May 1, 2008

Surprise surprise...
BlueMike comes on board to celebrate things going badly for the Cubs.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Don't overpitch here Wood...
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Forget this game. Thanks dumbass Kerry
Hit the leadoff man.
Itchy - May 1, 2008
Thats a bit uncalled for
Say he pitched crappy, not that.
tigerhawk61 - May 1, 2008
THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
In fairness...
this not a good situation.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008

Hi, Blue Mike.

Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008

Hey Moe - May 1, 2008

Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
Where's Sue?
I think it’s time for an alternate game thread.
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
we need
a coupla infield pop flies.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
good K candidate
Johnny Woo Woo - May 1, 2008
Wood is not a closer, he's just not
Let’s end the charade and insert Carlos Marmol into the role. Nice outfield play by the $136 million man too.
MDBNIU - May 1, 2008
AMEN!!
Itchy - May 1, 2008
please instead of just bitching
back up your comments as well
Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
You really are a clown
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Where the hell
were you when we had the lead earlier in the game. Oh I know, it would have killed you to say anything positive.
sue369 - May 1, 2008
Unfreaking-believable....should have left Marmol in.......boy this is an implosion....
sigh….grrr…sigh
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Need a weak grounder to the mound here.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
come on triple playyyyyyyyyy
KC in OK - May 1, 2008

love the ivy - May 1, 2008
Is anyone up
in the bullpen?
deutschegirl67 - May 1, 2008
Game over
PieFan08 - May 1, 2008
Funny, I thought this was a home game
sanantonecub - May 1, 2008
do NOT say that
when the game is not over. It is NOT over.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Anyone remember
when Blanco told Zambrano that if he walked one more person, he was going to punch him?
Soto needs to do that to Wood, now.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Missed that one.
It sounds pretty hilarious, though.
Cool Hand - May 1, 2008
Other than Marmol
our bullpen is crap right now.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
Yep
MDBNIU - May 1, 2008
or maybe 3 K's
crw89 - May 1, 2008
Woody is learning
there is no room for error when your specialty is pitching one inning.
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
Andddddd I'm nervous.
Jayo525 - May 1, 2008
I know one thing
if Woody blows this, Z is gonna be pissed!!
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
swing and a miss
sigh
Hey Moe - May 1, 2008
Okay
That’s one
JFG72 - May 1, 2008

Hey Moe - May 1, 2008

JFCubFan - May 1, 2008
Help
I can’t watch. Too painful!
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
one quick come-backer
for a game ending DP.
Come on, Woody!
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
I hate Ryan Braun
CubsBall2202 - May 1, 2008
The auspiciuos start of
Alfonso Soriano!
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
Let's not blame this on Wood.
If Sori would have caught that one it would have been a different ball game. Next time Lou should put in a defensive replacement for Sori.
zevkalman - May 1, 2008
Wood has the mind
of a closer just not the stuff.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
He's peaking at 97 MPH
Are you serious?
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
dp now...
it’s like a Rod Beck game but with fewer doghnuts on him
Johnny Woo Woo - May 1, 2008
over Dome's head
two runs score. Weeks is out. Double for Braun.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Braun
over Fukudome’s head, 2 runs score, the third is out by a ton. 2 down, but it’s 4-3 Brewers.
northsider - May 1, 2008
shit
Hey Moe - May 1, 2008
How big is the
FUKU play now?
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
Exactly
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
CONGRADUATION'S BASHERS
THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED!
Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
Would rather
have had a win.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
Blame the players
not bashers.
Idiot.
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
Blame both...
the players for screwing up AND the bashers for only posting when things go badly. The name calling is also unnecessary.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Right, moron!
Itchy - May 1, 2008
isn't this what you wanted
afterall you say Wood is an AWFUL closer? You just get your wish!
Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
No I didn't say that
Itchy - May 1, 2008
Tie Game?
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
Fuck
nice job Woody.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
maybe we'll get luck and get Turnblow
Hey Moe - May 1, 2008
Wood instills zero confidence as a closer
This is the 4th game where he has imploded already.
MDBNIU - May 1, 2008
pardon my french
but shut the fuck up
Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
The Truth Hurts
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
Shiza, Brewers lead 4-3
Lead the Apocalypse begin.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Brain O'Nora costs us the game with his out call on dome at the plate
what a piece of shit, open your eyes behind the plate you tool.
CubsBall2202 - May 1, 2008
Can't ever blame it on the umpires.
northsider - May 1, 2008
NO, a closer who repeatedly can't shut the door cost us the game
MDBNIU - May 1, 2008
It should be a tie game right now
CubsBall2202 - May 1, 2008
More like a "loyal" fan who focuses on every single miscue cost us our sanity.
EJThunder - May 2, 2008
get his ass out of there
crw89 - May 1, 2008
Fielder
4-3. 3 out.
northsider - May 1, 2008
Fielder out
bottom of teh ninth we go.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
poor z :(
cubs ftw - May 1, 2008
Good point
HR 6 plus, 1 ER…deserved a win.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
Devastating. Just devastating.
daver - May 1, 2008
I hate this game....what a freaking heartbreaking game....I screamed the F bomb
at work…....man I am sick…...the Brewers have our number…..talk about turning this week around real quick….wow….....I was so pumped and now just sick….I hate the Brewers
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
there are
three outs to go.
It’s not a good situation. But it’s not over either.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
This could be a turning point game
CubsBall2202 - May 1, 2008
Nice job Woody
Chokeartist!
Itchy - May 1, 2008
Wood the enigma continues, this time as a reliever
MDBNIU - May 1, 2008
Keep going, dude, how many different ways can you say the same thing?
It’s really adding a lot!
northsider - May 1, 2008
Dude, now you're just reveling in the blown save...
stop.
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
Wood has seen his last game as closer.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
No, he hasn't.
cwyers - May 1, 2008
Marmol needs to be closer
MDBNIU - May 1, 2008
Why, so you can bitch and moan about Marmol instead?
cwyers - May 1, 2008
No, Because
Wood’s confidence is flagging.
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
Marmol is needed
where he is. And you know it.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Nope
Lou will give him plenty more chances.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
Don't worry.
We still got this.
Jayo525 - May 1, 2008
Agreed
It’s one run….
Bluelou - May 1, 2008
WOOD CANNOT CLOSE
Too pumped up to be effective…Marmol should pitch the 9th from now on.
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
He's too dumb. Hitting guys and grooving pitches - he just doesn't think
Itchy - May 1, 2008
sorry, but can't walk the leadoff guy as a closer...
just CANNOT
Johnny Woo Woo - May 1, 2008
He didn't walk him. He hit him.
daver - May 1, 2008
I wish I had your confidence.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
At least Lou believes in meritocracy
Wood won’t see the 9th inning for weeks now
SouthsideCub - May 1, 2008
GAG ME!
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
THERE IS HOPE
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
forget not all of you who wanted wood
over Marmol
Orval Overall - May 1, 2008
great
i have come to the conclusion that people on this board love it when the Cubs are losing, hense:
1. they only come on at this time
2. they love to bitch and bash but not back up their statements
3. they continue to post the same ideas about how this team sucks in more than one post
Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
There's no way that should have happened with 7-8-9 up. Marmol
would have shut the door on them
CubsBall2202 - May 1, 2008
Gagne is just as
bad, but has a few years more experience as a closer…
What a shame.
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
Gag-Me's in...
we have hope
crw89 - May 1, 2008
I'd much rather have people from BrewCrewBall
come over here and bash the Cubs, at least they say they don’t like the Cubs. It’s like the trolls here have some kind of annoy-the-hell-out-of-everyone magic to alert them once the Cubs are losing.
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Agreed
SouthernCub - May 1, 2008
yep
sue369 - May 1, 2008

Johnny Woo Woo - May 1, 2008

Fukumania - May 1, 2008
If you all want Marmol to close....
Who’s going to get us out of those tight jams like earlier today?
CubsBullsBears - May 1, 2008
Therein lies the problem
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
We are not bashing the Cubs
but you have to admit Wood has not done the job he was paid to do.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
wind is blowing out
Let’s Go Cubbies
Hey Moe - May 1, 2008
The trolls are the ones with undying faith in Soriano and Wood
MDBNIU - May 1, 2008
This doesn't even make sense.
Good one, though.
northsider - May 1, 2008
Soriano is the 2nd worst contract behind Zito, sorry but the guy is terrible. Inconsistent
CubsBall2202 - May 1, 2008
wtf are you talking about
more incomprehensible than usual, BlueMike.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Yeah, this is absolute nonsense.

CubsBall2202 - May 1, 2008

Itchy - May 1, 2008

The E-Man - May 1, 2008

Soriano Is Afraid Of The Wall
Horrible when it comes to going back on balls.
SecondSon - May 1, 2008

He’s only out in left to entertain the fans, he has no clue how to play baseball, hes a waste

Same Old Cubs
Rudey - May 1, 2008
Not really.
What was our record last year at this time?
sue369 - May 1, 2008
14-14 5 games out
n/t
BigJohnAZ - May 1, 2008
Record really doesnt mean much at the beginning of the year.
Sure im happy we are up there, but we are the same Cubs that you can never feel safe with no matter close the game is to being over. You always have to prepare yourself for the heartbreaking loss. I let my guard down this year early and it was a mistake cause we still have the same heartbreaking losses.
Rudey - May 1, 2008
What you just
said could apply to any team. So you think the Cubs are the only team to lose games like this?
sue369 - May 1, 2008
No ugh
I hate when everyone on here wants to jump down your throat if your unhappy about a loss, but you act as if the Cubs arent well known for breaking their fans hearts year after year. Did i say i couldnt handle it NO…im saying i let my guard down early this year and expected to be able to close out wins thats all.
Rudey - May 1, 2008
We are going to have plenty more of these
this year, it just knots my stomach when you lose a game like this. Especially against the team that is your main rival for the division. Not that it’s any easier to swallow if it was the Reds or Pirates, but we had this game in the bag, mostly. That’s why they play the games and we feel like this when they lose.
BigJohnAZ - May 1, 2008
We are 6-9 against "good" teams, 11-2 against "bad" teams this year.
just some stats, no comment.
BigJohnAZ - May 1, 2008
define "good" vs" bad"?
We all thought Milwaukee was going to be cake. St. Louis, too.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
"good" teams this year so far - MILW, PHL, NYM, COL
“bad” teams WSH, CINC, PITTS, HOU. I never thought Milwaukee was going to be cake.
BigJohnAZ - May 1, 2008
I feel sick
SouthsideCub - May 1, 2008
Well...the Brewers OWN our butts at this point....regardless of last night's game....
They have taken the wind outta our sails…came into our house and took 4 of 6…....really not cool to let them do that….especially when Zambrano has pitched two great games against them and we lost both of them thanks to crappy bullpen…....hate to say it but we can’t feel good right now about the bullpen (except Marmol) or the situation in the Central….we don’t get to play the Pirates all season…..
razzpunk - May 1, 2008

That’s baseball for ya.
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
Some of you are just sad.
Get over it. Horrible loss. Go have a glass of wine and relax.
Fukumania - May 1, 2008
Marmol for closer?
Schwa - May 1, 2008
Easy
Marmol pitches 2 innings, like the good old days. Start stretching him out gradually now and by mid-season he’ll be ready to come in the 8th and get the job done.
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
it does feel like the same old cubs
that i’ve loved and cheered on and believed in since 3rd grade (in waukegan, illinois) but i still believe…. year after year, i still believe this year will be different. and hopefully it is.

These losses are so hard to swollow. The cubs give us another huge game to swallow.
Rudey - May 1, 2008

no good will…winning trumps everything.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 1, 2008
I think Woody

drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Im a little worried
about the way the way the Cubs are playing with Sori back.
adam316 - May 1, 2008
The whole one game with him being back?
Is this some new unfounding land of sarcasm?
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
one game
that they LED in till the top of the NINTH and you’re WORRIED????
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Yes.
Actually I was worried about it before he came back. Sorry if that is upsetting, I just don’t see anything good coming from him at all, granted he’s just off an injury, but we didn’t seem to miss him when he was gone.
adam316 - May 1, 2008
ouch
hope this doesn’t get to Woody’s head. Too much.
bms - May 1, 2008
Too Late
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
I laugh at this board
it was so funny because we were discussing it yesterday that after everyone was excietd last night, if the cubs lost today, the trolls would come back and everyone would be in a panic mode!
Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
I laugh at guys like you
who never seem at all bothered by a Cubs loss. But I guess that’s what makes you a true fan and the rest of us, who actually are bothered by blowing a late inning lead to one of our main rivals, trolls.
bluekoolaide - May 1, 2008
Im sorry
but this guy speak truth.
Rudey - May 1, 2008
who says
we’re not bothered?
I’m bothered. It sucks to lose a game like this. But I’m not going to damn Soriano or Kerry Wood to hell because of it. I’m going to keep a positive outlook - this team has been dominating at times - and hope that tomorrow they play better.
They didn’t trail the entire game. They played well. Two mistakes in the ninth cost us the game.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Who said
it doesn’t bother us? I hate that we lost but what can I do about it? Bitching and whining in here solves nothing.
sue369 - May 1, 2008
Every time anybody criticizes the Cubs for bad baseball
people like you refer to it as “bitching and whining”. I’m sure in your world we should blindly cheer everything the Cubs do but, unfortuantely, there are a lot of us out there who love the Cubs and are hurt when we see them lose.
bluekoolaide - May 1, 2008
Amen
Rudey - May 1, 2008
no.
Every time Plenz or Blue Mike says “Soriano sucks” or “Bench Theriot” or “Woody can’t be a closer” we refer to it as bitching and moaning.
Funny that someone with the name “bluekoolaide” complains about blindly cheering.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
look I am ok with people being pissed off because of games like these
but people who come on this board immediately when they are about to blow it or are losing (the only time they are ever on!) and bash about how such and such player sucks and is the worst player ever. You don’t like losing, but you can’t change the past. Games like this happen. Rivera, Papelbon, and Wagner have blown saves in their career as well..
Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
Maybe you are but there seem to be a lot of people
on this thread who seem to never ever want to criticize the cubs. No matter how you look at it, this is a heartbreaking loss and anybody who isn’t hurt by it simply isn’t a real fan.
bluekoolaide - May 1, 2008
it is
and if you read a ton of my posts last season I always bitched after a loss.
Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
I love people like you who just constantly post about the trolls
rather then the game that just finished up. Ignore their posts if it bothers you so much. Your more annoying then them.
DC Cubbie - May 1, 2008
F
Bummer loss. But we’re just out of first place and we’ve got 134 more to play.
Its more important how we react to this loss than the loss itself. Bounce back and beat down the Cards and we’ll forget about this.
Only worry here is Sori. He’s played terrible and the manager and team have to play to his ego rather than put him wherever they want, which includes hitting lower and defensive substitutions. Tha’s a crappy situation for a manager and team to be in.
The Ryno and I Know - May 1, 2008
Was listening to the game so I want to know should Soriano have caught that.....
ball in the 9th??? Sounds like it….if he makes that catch then maybe Wood gets the save??? Isn’t it funny how Soriano comes back and this happens??? Lou just went off on a reporter…..cursed…..
razzpunk - May 1, 2008

CubsBullsBears - May 1, 2008

was it catchable? Maybe but in a “highlight reel” kind of way
bluekoolaide - May 1, 2008
Um, we lost
Tues. night and Sori didn’t play. What was the excuse then?
sue369 - May 1, 2008
Marquis Blows
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
This one sucks
These things do happen, gotta take the hat off for the Brewers, they kept it close the entire game and made us pay in the end with good hitting. Tough to swallow yes, but NOT the end of the world. We’ll get back on track, we’ve got the talent.
OT- Anyone else noticed on May 22nd of the Cubs.com schedule there is a picture of Indiana Jones.
Lou In Blue - May 1, 2008

I honestly just feel sick after games like these. Im gonna watch tommorow im gonna root them on for life, but these losses truly make me sick and it takes me all night to eat.
Rudey - May 1, 2008
Amen.
bluekoolaide - May 1, 2008
Lou is pissed in postgame conference.
Swears at reporters. Conference over.
daver - May 1, 2008
Hahah no way
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Where can i watch this?
Rudey - May 1, 2008
I'm still listening to Gameday Audio and they had it on there.
I’m sure you’ll be able to see it on the news tonight.
daver - May 1, 2008
Good
cause i need, honestly need, to see Lou get made to help me get passed this terrible game.
Rudey - May 1, 2008
I feel the same.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
Me three...
CubsBullsBears - May 1, 2008
Part Of It
Might be Lou being upset with the spotty umpiring behind the plate.
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
Well, in day one returning
Soriano couldn’t have done worse.
His highs are so highs – and his lows are below ground.
Perhaps he’ll carry the team in St. Louis?
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
Can someone hightlight Lou's conference?
A little of what was said.
CubsBullsBears - May 1, 2008
A reporter asked him something, I couldn't quite make it out...
...and he said something like, “Of course, I thought about it. What, do you think I’m stupid?” Then he paused and started to say, “Goddamnit.” But he caught himself and said, “Goshdarnit,” and then basically got up and left.
daver - May 1, 2008
maybe there's a table in teh cub's locker room being knocked over right now.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Before that he said "You're god damn right I thought about it!!!" Refering to leaving Marmol in...
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Yeah, I knew there was a swear in there somewhere.
daver - May 1, 2008
No Lou was asked if he thought about subbing Johnson in LF for defense
philadelphiacub - May 1, 2008
Wow
That’s interesting.
The Ryno and I Know - May 1, 2008
Lou was asked about leaving Marmol in and went OFF on the reporter.....
then the presser was over…..he is NOT happy
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Wonder If
Lou will consider doing that now?
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
Not likely
One or two games really doesn’t effect Lou much. He likes to stick to his guns. Look at “project pie” as an example.
Lou In Blue - May 1, 2008
That's What Worries Me
I fear Loyal Lou will win out over Practical Lou.
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
Some of you brush this off
with the “we’ll get ‘em tomorrow” attitude. That is great. I admire this.
However, just know that we won the Division last year by 2 GAMES. To the Brew.
These games blown to your Division rivals are JUST as important now, as in September.
The E-Man - May 1, 2008
I agree....it does not look good to let them take 4 of 6 in out park....and two of those in heartbreaking fashion...
they are gonna come outta hear with tons of confidence when we could have put a stop with that…..
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Anyone who thinks our bullpen doesn't have problems
is lying to themselves.
Itchy - May 1, 2008
Could both of those balls hit in the 9th have been caught?
I didn’t get to see it and people are telling me they could have.
Itchy - May 1, 2008
The one to Soriano
should have been caught.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
Bad Jumps
Kapler reached out and poked the ball, so it appeared to be a routine fly. That said I still wonder if Sori isn’t a bit gun shy because of his injury history. Braun’s hit was a bit harder and deeper, not sure why Kosuke wasn’t playing at the warning track to begin with.
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
I guess Sori shouldn't be out there in late game situations. But, how do you take out a guy with such a great arm??
Itchy - May 1, 2008
The bullpen is broken
If some chose to live in denial on this subject, then so be it. Carlos Marmol and Jon Lieber are the only two who have gotten the job done. It’s as sadly simple as that. We will go nowhere as a ballclub until we resolve the closer job and middle relief.
MDBNIU - May 1, 2008
maybe
but, there is no question that soriano should have caught the ball. if that doesn’t happen, we’re not talking about this and you’re talking about something else negatively.
neifi - May 1, 2008
Bottom line is that Wood is terrible
and as long as he remains are closer, we’re not going anywhere.
I’m not crazy about the idea of changing marmol from set-up to closer but a few more outings like this from Wood and i don’t know if he’ll have any other choice.
bluekoolaide - May 1, 2008
MVP's of the game....Zambrano, Fuku, Geo, Marmol....
billy goats of the day…Soriano (he should have caught that ball) and Wood (never start off by hitting the lead off man).........two guys waste the great effort of a bunch of other guys…....well onward we go…..
razzpunk - May 1, 2008
Sori At The Plate
Didn’t start watching until the 8th – did he go 0 for 4? 4 Ks?
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
First pitch ground outs.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
ALL FOUR TIMES???
Ay dios mio
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
The two I saw.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
hahaha
NittanyCub - May 1, 2008
Decaf
folks, 17-11, horrible loss, can’t dwell on it. Cards are in first, have to go play in well in StLouis.
Can sit back and pick this game a part, doesn’t do a bit of good. In 162 games you are going to have some tough losses, this just happens to be one of them.
Go Cubs, beat the birds this weekend.
Grockcubs - May 1, 2008
Tolerable IF...
the problems are corrected. Better late inning defense and bullpen work needed.
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
Hope we don't get swept down there.
They will be fired up and always take advantage if we make any dumb mistakes. Wainwright is tough.
Itchy - May 1, 2008
Plenty of blame to go around
Lou probably needs to plan for a defensive replacement in left. Soriano should have caught that ball but Fukudome also should have caught Braun’s ball. He got a bad jump. This bullpen is not doing the job. But they have to forget this one and win the series from the Cards. That will put us back in 1st place.
Rick B - May 1, 2008
Fact?
Got this on a different forum: “Fact: cubs have now lost 3 out of 4 series against teams over 500.”
adam316 - May 1, 2008
Which is why talks of getting to the world series is stupid, this team needs help
CubsBall2202 - May 1, 2008
?
Detroit: 13-15
Cleveland: 13-15
New York Yankees: 14-15
Seattle: 13-15
Atlanta: 12-15
Colorado: 11-17
San Diego: 11-17
so I guess they are out of World Series contention as well
Chanman25 - May 1, 2008
Nope
I think the Cubs have a strong chance, and obviously don’t agree that the idea is stupid. But I really think we have to make some changes. We cannot keep chugging along without stirring some things up to get the best possible outcomes. I think this game would have been won if a few things were changed by Lou. Also, we need to beat the Cardinals, just as bad as we needed to beat the Brewers. Can’t keep losing to the teams in our division that are right above or below us.
adam316 - May 1, 2008
Exactly.
As for all the trolls: don’t feed them.
Onwards to tomorrow. Go Cubs Go!
Tangled Up In Blue - May 1, 2008
WS Talk on May 1
is stupid, but realistically speaking the Cubs are there with the better clubs of the NL. Now maybe you can argue that the NL as a whole is weak, but if that’s what it takes for the Cubs to win then I’ll take it.
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
Wainwright is tough
but we have owned the Cardinals over the last few years. It’s time to find out if the Cards are for real. The fact is they have had the easiest April schedule in baseball. So, we’ll see.
Rick B - May 1, 2008
They asked Lou if he
thought about putting a defensive replacement in left. He said, “you’re damn right I did. What , do you think I’m stupid or something?” He’s pissed.
Rick B - May 1, 2008
so he thought about it
why the hell didn’t he do it then? Lou knows a lot more about his team then us of course, but he didn’t really answer the question there.
DC Cubbie - May 1, 2008
he decided against it
for some reason. Probably “It’s Sori’s first day back, I need to play him.” If Reed is so crappy, and Pie can’t hit, who goes in for Sori?
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
Former/Current Skipper
The former would be apt to maintain the status quo and put a fuzzy spin on mistakes and boneheadedness, whereas the current actively tries to correct the team’s flaws.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see Trammell at the top of the dugout broadly indicating to the OFers where they should be playing each batter, and Lieber to start seeing more action in the 8th and 9th.
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
I guarantee we will see more of Lieber in the 7 & 8th, Marmol in the 9th.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
I don't think Lou will over react to this loss
like most fans will do. Wood needs to stop putting the first man on. Those of you who want to limit Marmol to the ninth inning have to agree that this game would have been blown alot sooner if Howry or Wood had to come in earlier with first and third.
Rick B - May 1, 2008
Confessions Of A "Troll"
SecondSon - May 1, 2008
Make sense
no sarcasm
Rudey - May 1, 2008
no need to explain yourself for blowing off some steam
by the way Lou swore about the game at the press conference, does that make him a “troll”?
DC Cubbie - May 1, 2008
It's fun
for me to be in here and share good plays and awful plays with the people who post here. We can’t be at the games to cheer in person so we do it here. We do get upset when they make horrible plays but it’s not the end of the world like some believe it is. Some of the stuff said repeatedly is what bothers me. Saying it over and over does not change anything. If they said it once and moved on that would be fine.
sue369 - May 1, 2008
they didn't underachieve!
They gutted all those runs out. The save was BLOWN. They didn’t stink up the place for nine innings, Woody BLEW THE SAVE.
It sucks. But it’s not like they weren’t trying.
drewishdrewid - May 1, 2008
welp,
that sucked. sure hope we can recover tomorrow.
gocubsgoradio720 - May 1, 2008
Same Here.
When they are winning there is not much to fix. When they lose as they did today with glaring problems it helps to let off steam.
mgfabc - May 1, 2008
Soriano, You Suck!
Imtrejo - May 1, 2008
Looks like tough game
Was Dome solid again?
dragonsfanatic - May 1, 2008
He went 4-4 but...
He was playing a little shallow for the situation and let a ball get over his head in the ninth, letting the winning run score. His play was in no way the determining factor in this loss, Wood and Soriano are the culprits.
Imtrejo - May 1, 2008
I hate it when people pin the loss on a lone individual.....
IT’S A TEAM EFFORT!
The Cubs AS A TEAM lost the game.
EJThunder - May 2, 2008
Did you read my post?
