But honestly, who here DOESN’T know where I went to school? Where does NittanyCub attend school? It’s such a mystery where NittanyCub could have gone; NittanyCub seldom talks about it too.
Then reply to his comment, not mine, Mr. Baseball.
You just made yourself look even smarter than before, which I didn’t think was possible. That, or you’re backtracking your words because I called you out on a stupid question.
the kid looks composed out there and looks like he belongs. I am boggled that he hasnt been a higher prospect. He has done nothing but win in the minors with great ERAs
i’m off to my buddy’s pool, getting the first sun on my winter coat. it’s ok to be jealous because you should be. i’ll be listening to the radio broadcast on my cell phone. go Cubs!
And with how the game is transforming there is just going to be less and less of them unless there are some drastic changes. Gallagher has been refreshingly stellar thus far.
Maybe this was already discussed but I don’t get not starting Zambrano (or the Unit for that matter). This team has been the best in MLB so far this year and the weather never looked like it was going to be a problem after the rain stopped.
...intentionally walking a guy and then bringing in a new pitcher. Bringing in a guy like Fox with the bases loaded is pretty iffy. I’d rather let him try to pitch with a base open.
...but is there anyone here who has played or currently plays college baseball? I have a question about the Cubs but I feel that only someone who has played, plays, or claims to play baseball at a high level can answer it.
so none of the original starters were put on the mound today. Gallagher started for the Cubs, and pitched pretty well, too. He got in a jam, Fox came in, and said to himself “How could I possibly make Gallagher’s ERA go up? OH YEAH I KNOW HOW!!” and then gave up two runs.
Gallagher got the first two outs and the cubs were the best ever. Then he gave up a run in the first. The cubs and gallagher suck. Then the Cubs tied it as a run came across on a wild pitch. The cubs manufactured that run and therefore rock. DLee hit a homer that the wind sliced into the grandstands in right. The cubs are the best team in the league Gallagher ran out of gas a bit, put some guys on. Fox walked two with the bases loaded. Fox must go (ok, I said this) and Lou is giving the game away by having him throw a second inning. Gonzalez has had a good day, but that is because the cubs suck. The world’s skinniest man is coming in to pitch for the snakes in the bottom of the sixth. Fox picks a guy off! he’s the best ever!
My undergraduate degree is from Wisconsin. I’ll keep my distance from you, but it’s really Michigan and Ohio State I hate. Why do I hate OSU so much? It’s the “THE” Ohio State that I hate, passionately, passionately hate.
“You just sang the worst version TMOTTBG this season, and among the worst ever. Do you think fans will blame that on Jessica Simpson wearing a pink jersey?”
so because he played for the cowboys that means chicago fans cant like him? Or is it that he’s from wisconsin? Cowboys didn’t do anything to the bears this season
that you will get tackled and arrested. If they’re drunk enough to run on the field, I doubt they’re in a state of mind where they’re remembering if they saw someone do it on tv.
the Padres…. Very interesting to see if Lieber pitches at all in the series. And i personally think if we can get Gallagher stretched out he should pitch…. He did very well today but just got gassed
It was great what the Cubs did for Gallagher. He was good enough to compete for a spot and very nearly won one. But instead of putting him in the bullpen, we kept him a starter (in the minors). Dempster said he had to train differently to get back into starting shape. After letting Leiber be the long-man, I believe we should continue our plan. And if Gallagher needs bailing out, then here comes Leiber.
the last 2 times I got into a car and turned on the radio after a major event in the lives of my brother and sister in law the Cubs were winning and the other team won the game as we turned on the radio.
Yesterday we got in the car after a big event in time to hear the rally in the 7th.
The more I watch the Cards and Brewers, the more I think it really is the Cubs’ division to lose . . . but we’re looking for more, and this weekend was very encouraging.
Al is so pesimistic
about the weather.
LPLancer23 - May 11, 2008
it's pretty cold.
people at Wrigley look chilly.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
may not need this today..
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
Yeah, I was thinking that too.
Too early for one, we might need two of these.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Al always has a funny little comment
i like them
fischisgod - May 11, 2008

joeschmitt - May 11, 2008
I think this umpire has been pretty consistent and reasonable in calling balls/strikes.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
He's been a little tight around the corners
Consistent, though
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
really i feel he has been a little inconsistent with the outside low corner
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
whats is up with the pink bats

joeschmitt - May 11, 2008
HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA

NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Really Funny,
thats the best that you have. Where did you go to school? I said I was sorry lets stick with the Cubs
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
Hey man, I'm laughing at the good joke
But honestly, who here DOESN’T know where I went to school? Where does NittanyCub attend school? It’s such a mystery where NittanyCub could have gone; NittanyCub seldom talks about it too.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Michigan?
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
Hahah, damn.
The mystery is solved.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Ummm, Iowa? :p
sue369 - May 11, 2008
I'm thinking Notre Dame
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
oh, yeah....
teehee
sue369 - May 11, 2008
Tennessee might be an option as well..
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
I was asking Schmitt.
Wow sue you must be soo smart
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
care to hazard a guess
as to why EVERYONE thought you were asking nittany instead of me?
joeschmitt - May 11, 2008
Well Mr. Smartypants
if you were replying to Joel you should have replied to his comment. You repied to NittanyCub. Notice my reply was to NittanyCub and not you?
sue369 - May 11, 2008
I was asking joeschmitt Einstein.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
Then reply to his comment, not mine, Mr. Baseball.
You just made yourself look even smarter than before, which I didn’t think was possible. That, or you’re backtracking your words because I called you out on a stupid question.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
I replied to wrong comment I am new to blog.
I am also a big Notre Dame fan, and a sports nut. You think I do not know Penn State’s mascot?
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
Well actually how dumb I have sounded today...
I could understand how you think that lol. Good pitch there his bad pickoff throw did not hurt him.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
I'm speechless.
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
He likes that low strike for sure..
Bump Bailey - May 11, 2008

VERY nice hit by dome
on a pretty good 2-strike pitch
joeschmitt - May 11, 2008
yeah, he'd've been on
oh, well.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
whups, that was supposed to be one comment down.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
Soto swings at ball 4
Full count.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
hmm. Soto K's on
an outside pitch too close to take.
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
i dont think that was a strike that pitch has been called a ball all day
and then recently it has been a strike
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Actually you're probably right.
Soto has been behind the plate and all day and has seen the same pitches called a ball.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
Lets look at the positives we got the lead time for Gallagher to bear down
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
With the way the Ump,
has been calling the game Soto did the right thing swinging.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
Gange is out of the closers role
10 million doesnt get you what it used to
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Hahah
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
they are going clsoer by committee
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
With Turnbow on Assignment,
who has the spot now? Or will closer duty be shared now.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
Yeah. Closer by committee.
Not the most talented of committees, though.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
the hot girl spotter for WGN
is loving the brunettes today.
joeschmitt - May 11, 2008
I'd pay for that job.
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
lakers job is better
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
He always seems to have good taste, though.
Doesn’t matter what color their hair is.
Fukudome is really good at cutting off the liner hit into the gap.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
Concur
on both counts
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
Gallagher just got a way with a hanging curve
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
I like his slider, that thing is nasty
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
He is looking pretty good....this might keep Hill
...in Iowa for awhile
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
yea.... But we need Hill to get figured out he was good last year...
A rotation of Z Lilly Demp Hill Gallagher would be mighty fine by me
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
agreed...but a good start here
...and Hill can take his time and get it right.
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
Where would you put Marquis? The bullpen?
If that scenario works out, I hope they trade him.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
he can pinch run... ;)
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
maybe CF
:)
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
I would hope they could trade him but if push comes to shove and
he wont pitch nicely both mentally and physically out of the pen DFA him….
Marquis has been a cancer almost everywhere he has been. That being said without him we dont make the playoffs last year.
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
He was out of the rotation last playoffs as well.
I don’t know how much of a valuable asset he is to the Cubs, but it doesn’t seem much. That and his nose is enormous.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Gallagher is auditioning today for a spot?
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
hell yea
and doing a mighty fine job
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Is it just me or did Gallagher add about 3-4 MPH to his FB
In my prospects guide they had him at 89-92… I am seeing 91-97
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
could be the wind
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
really???
the first day up he was throwing 95
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
I dunno
maybe he’s just maturing
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
he has lost weight
and added speed…over the past two seasons
MJMars - May 11, 2008
he really should be given a chance to pitch in the roation he might be better than Lieber
or Marquis
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
I said that earlier.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
Looks like
D-Lee let a pickoff attempt get passed him.
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
Seans got to throw on other side of runner, that should be his error.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
Ruled so
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
2nd Missed Pickoff Throw Today
The first one didn’t cause any damage. Hope this doesn’t.
dbaltman - May 11, 2008
Gallagher
If I remember correctly ironically wasn’t Z a monster early in his career in a situation like this as an emergency starter.
Gallagher is one funny looking dude.
puckishcubsfan - May 11, 2008
Off the top of my head, I can’t comment on the first statement.
On the second, I wholeheartedly concur. He needs a nickname.
dbaltman - May 11, 2008
Gallagher is on it today!
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
Yes he is and
that’s great to see.
sue369 - May 11, 2008

looked bad in that AB
Reddevil - May 11, 2008

dbaltman - May 11, 2008
High heat
Gallagher Ks, on the top of the 4th
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
DFA Marquis
just let gallagher be the 5
MJMars - May 11, 2008
Way to go
Big G!
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
lol
I like that nickname a lot better than Gally
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
6 Ks for Gallagher
the kid looks composed out there and looks like he belongs. I am boggled that he hasnt been a higher prospect. He has done nothing but win in the minors with great ERAs
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
6 Ks
through four!
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
glad we didnt give him up for Roberts
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
+1
Bump Bailey - May 11, 2008
they were being greedy... Really greedy
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
That is scary to consider we (reportedly) offered
Cedeno
Veal
Gallagher
Ceda
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
what a mistake by baltimore
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
Best trade..
we never made..
Bump Bailey - May 11, 2008
I wish...
...somehow, after the fact, we could actually learn what WAS on the table in some of these cases. Would be real, real interesting.
Dan
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
Nice hit D-RO
good to see his bat get going again
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
That a boy Mark.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
See what happens when he keeps his head on the ball and doesnt pull off.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
90 degrees and sunny here in las vegas today
i’m off to my buddy’s pool, getting the first sun on my winter coat. it’s ok to be jealous because you should be. i’ll be listening to the radio broadcast on my cell phone. go Cubs!
joeschmitt - May 11, 2008
I'm headed to Vegas in August, for my 21st
First time I’ll be there and legally gamble. I heard it’s just swell.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Let me

Two words:

Reddevil - May 11, 2008
I mean...
Spearmint Rhino
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
Vegas is Amazing.
You turn 21 in August? I just had my 21st. Do you like Penn State? I heard its a hell of a time.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
Where are you planning on staying?
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
IT'S A TRAP! Don't answer...
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
Felix likes to swing the bat...
Reed Johnson does not
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Dangit,
3-6 DP from Felix Pie.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Other than rooting for Gallagher
this is one dull game so far
Emelie - May 11, 2008
I'm enjoying watching Gallagher pitch
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
yep. let's hope he can get the innings
Emelie - May 11, 2008
The DLee homer was nice
but you got a point.
JohnM - May 11, 2008
I love pitching duels.
And with how the game is transforming there is just going to be less and less of them unless there are some drastic changes. Gallagher has been refreshingly stellar thus far.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
I agree
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
me too
i saw an either 2-1 or 1-0 Cubs win in 16 when it was Z vs. Oswalt. Awesome game
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
poop
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Ugh
Anonymous catcher smacks a double to Left Center gap
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
Double by Montero
Past Pie’s head to left-center.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
1 down 1 on third..
hopefull Augie op up and then Byrnes K
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Did I just see
that Ojeda is hitting .372?!
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
I think everyone's out having brunch with Mom
BCB seems less populated than normal
Emelie - May 11, 2008
yes it does
sue369 - May 11, 2008
poop
sue369 - May 11, 2008
WTH???
How did he learn to hit?
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Shiza
Montero scores off a single by Ojeda. 2-2
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
RBI Single
for the former Cub
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
That Augie kills us.
I hate him.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
All hail
the blocking ability of the amazing Soto
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
Yah that hurts
Especially the timing of it with the type of weather looming.
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
oh no
Emelie - May 11, 2008
really didnt like that swing.... and reaction
byrnes is a d bag… GOt to bear down Gallagher
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Doggie bag?
Kansas25 - May 11, 2008
rofl!
Emelie - May 11, 2008
maybe
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
False Hustle
Thought he hit it out, but settles for a double
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
I also don't like his pearly white batting gloves
and the way he curls his hair. Not a likeable person.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
Gallagher did just fine
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Looks like Gallagher's done
Chad Fox up.
I like how he pitched today, though. I hope he gets another chance to start another game.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
me too
sue369 - May 11, 2008
Yeah. He was tiring. Not used to pitching so many innings.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
Lou has been frustrating lately
complaining about starters not going deep enough in to games. He pulls gallagher after 4.1. The kid needs to face some adversity
and he brings in marmol with a 5 run lead
C’mon Lou!
MJMars - May 11, 2008
Fox in
with one out, bases loaded, tie game.
No pressure.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
I'd bring Marmol in here.
ARAM FOR MVP - May 11, 2008
can Marmol pitch
this many days in a row?
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
i assume so
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
his pitch counts have been down
i want to say 14, and 12 in the last 2 appearances
MJMars - May 11, 2008
Marmol can pitch wherever, whenever.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
After Dusty blew out Fox's elbow in a silly game he should
not have pitched in in 05 I never thought I would see him again… Good to see him out there…
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Walk Young?
But he is a high SO, low AVG guy?
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
And Fox?
3rd appearance, 1st in a week, and you put him in a tie game with the bases loaded?
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
Good slider for Fox
when was the last time that Wuertz pitched
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
anybody with a surname of Fox
is bound for greatness ;-)
Emelie - May 11, 2008
Fox's slider
Looks good. Stick with it.
TXCub - May 11, 2008
i hate that
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Oh shoot. Not good.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
poop
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
7 straight sliders
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
gotta put something in the zone at some point.
TXCub - May 11, 2008
phooey
Emelie - May 11, 2008
nothing i hate more
than see a run walked in
MJMars - May 11, 2008
he can't
find the zone.`
Anyone else up?
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
Is the feel good story over yet?
I seriously find it hard to believe that he was the right choice in this spot.
Schwa - May 11, 2008
totally agree...
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
More like, Chad DOG!
Ba-dumb, ts!
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
49!!!!!
get him up
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Great, in case they didn't see enough sliders, Wuertz is up in the pen.
Schwa - May 11, 2008
LOL
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Wuertz is up
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Wuertz warming up
No Marmol
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
This
is a disgrace
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
cant walk in another
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Apparently he can...
Schwa - May 11, 2008
DFA
Designate
Fox
Already
Ross - May 11, 2008
agreed
call up Petrick
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
that was a strike on soto earlier
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
This is getting ugly
Emelie - May 11, 2008
Dang it
Come on CHAAAAD.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Here come the boos. It's well deserved.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
I hate that for Fox
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
what the hell
was lou thinking bringing in Fox in a situation like this?
CubsFan87 - May 11, 2008
Using Marmol yesterday
That looks about 10 times stupider right now.
DrunkenSuperman - May 11, 2008
Fox has nothing...trying to get
cute with the bases loaded….really dont understand why you bring him into a tied game.
He is a mop up guy when its a blowout
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
This
is terrible timing, the absolute worse. 3-2 basesloaded in a 2-2 & 3-2 game is not a good time to try to start nibbling
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
if we can get out of this with only giving u three runs i will take it
we need to get the bats going though
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
agree
sue369 - May 11, 2008
Gallagher deserves better than this
when a guy walks in 2 runs they should be charged to THAT pitcher
MJMars - May 11, 2008
yea maybe...
the first one should be gallaghers the second fox
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
G
put them all on.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
Zambrano decision
Maybe this was already discussed but I don’t get not starting Zambrano (or the Unit for that matter). This team has been the best in MLB so far this year and the weather never looked like it was going to be a problem after the rain stopped.
TXCub - May 11, 2008
Generous corner on that one
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
There's a good slider
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
why play around with the strike zone with the bases loaded?
just pitch strikes, walking two guys in is ridiculous, it’s not like he can’t pitch strikes, he’s just choosing to nibble
dogcatratcheese - May 11, 2008
And Gallagher is getting all the earned runs out of this
The Chad is so awesome.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Swung at a ball there.
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
yup....that could have been worse.
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
WHEW!!!!!
Thank god for Lake Michigan
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
4-2
Does not a final score make
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
right. it's still early
Emelie - May 11, 2008
and their starter has not been that good and their pen is nothing to wirte home about
we have 15 outs left
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Bring in Chad Qualls!
That worked well yesterday!
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
Thank God
that is over.
sue369 - May 11, 2008
Thank you Kosuke
Emelie - May 11, 2008
Fox lowers his era
thats such crap
MJMars - May 11, 2008
marmol would have strucken everyone out
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
And his arm will fall off
in september
MJMars - May 11, 2008
"Stucken"
awesome
JohnM - May 11, 2008
Inning over
Pop out to Fukudome.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Have no fear...
Corner Gas will air even if the Cubs go on to lose.
Kansas25 - May 11, 2008
Thank you Wind & Lake Michigan
Mikey06 - May 11, 2008
As soon as i am back to Chicago i will be purchasing a Marmol jersey
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Plenty of time
we can get this one.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
I've never liked...
...intentionally walking a guy and then bringing in a new pitcher. Bringing in a guy like Fox with the bases loaded is pretty iffy. I’d rather let him try to pitch with a base open.
TXCub - May 11, 2008
Marmol will be an all star if he keeps this up correct?
ARAM FOR MVP - May 11, 2008
good question
he isn’t a closer, but he has arguably been the best reliever this year
MJMars - May 11, 2008
he definitely should be
if you look at the league strikeout leaders, he’s not near the top, but he’s the first on the list that isn’t a starter.
dogcatratcheese - May 11, 2008
Well
let’s hope the Cubs can find a way to come back
if not, 2 out of 3 from the D- Backs seems like lightyears improvement over the past few weeks
CubsFan87 - May 11, 2008
I am really starting to dislike Reed Johnson
he shouldnt even use a bat. Just stick your elbow out there and be over with it
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
LMAO
I like him as a backup. But Pie needs to play more.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
I agree. We will be seeing a new CF soon.
ARAM FOR MVP - May 11, 2008
Who would that be?
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
Johnson's probably starting tomorrow
LHP Randy Wolf is starting tomorrow.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
I dont remember the last time he got a hit
or a double
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Only the Cubs
can make subpar pitchers look like studs
CubsFan87 - May 11, 2008
My h.s. JV team did that
pretty well
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
We playing against Peavy??
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
yup
Wednesday
MJMars - May 11, 2008
Wolf, Estes, Peavy, Maddux
JohnM - May 11, 2008
I'd give real money
to never had to watch that “Too Much Good Stuff” commercial again.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
Good news
Juan Cruz warming up.
JohnM - May 11, 2008
Bad news: augie is up to bat.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
Chad Fox needs to get more pitches over the plate.
Or, not directly over the plate that he gets hit.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
Fox
is still IN?!?1 How many walks is he gonna be allowed to give up?
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
Sorry everyone, I was out running errands...
...but is there anyone here who has played or currently plays college baseball? I have a question about the Cubs but I feel that only someone who has played, plays, or claims to play baseball at a high level can answer it.
Fukudometer - May 11, 2008
I was just
bragging about my High School JV playing days.
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
Fox can't find the plate.
man.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
Lou has decided to sacrifice this game
for the sake of giving Chad Fox some work. I think thats a horrible decision.
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
Yeah, a 2-run lead is almost insurmountable
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Leaving Fox in is ridiculous
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
I think you mean...
ridonkulous.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
Way to go Foxy
Knew he couldnt get people out pitching, so he kept throwing to 1st until he got him.
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
I just got here from the "Mother's Day Lunch" after Church...
somebody give me the ugly deatails?
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
They've scored more.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
What got Z run out of the game?
pitch count? walks? did he try and beat up the Diamondback’s catcher?
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
Rain
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
Didn't start
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 11, 2008
Cold weather
Gallagher got the start. Actually he did pretty good till the 5th.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
he didn't even start because of the rain
cubs ftw - May 11, 2008
Z didn't pitch.
Because of the rain and the chance of it being called early. Johnson didn’t pitche either.
sue369 - May 11, 2008
Well, there was a rain delay
so none of the original starters were put on the mound today. Gallagher started for the Cubs, and pitched pretty well, too. He got in a jam, Fox came in, and said to himself “How could I possibly make Gallagher’s ERA go up? OH YEAH I KNOW HOW!!” and then gave up two runs.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
on WALKS.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
To sum up...
The cubs are the best team in the league
Gallagher ran out of gas a bit, put some guys on.
And there you go.
Ross - May 11, 2008
Nicely done.
Fox does suck though.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 11, 2008
Thanks for the Reader's Digest Recap...
RDR…someone add that to the BCB Dictionary.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
That about sums it up.
Now let’s get to the skinny guy. I hate these ex-Cub snakes.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
Thanks for the great belly laugh!
Emelie - May 11, 2008
Chad Fox
NEVER should have been called up. I didn’t get it then…still don’t.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 11, 2008
Chris Burke agrees with you.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
Welcome,
you ray of sunshine
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
Truth hurts...
Those BB with the bases loaded…it’s like he was afraid to throw strikes.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 11, 2008
fear had nothing to do with it.
ability, maybe.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
So Fox is a two pitch pitcher?
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
all he can throw is either
balls or strikes
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
I am back solid inning
this game is going at a turtles pace
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
we really need to get the bats going and keep the ball out of the air
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
If they lose today
as Meatloaf once penned “two out of three ain’t bad.”
Especially from the DBacks.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 11, 2008
If they lose today
they should just call it a season and rebuild cause it’s all over!
Yeah, right.
bubbamike the one and only - May 11, 2008
it is only the 6
and we are only down 2 runs i would not be worried
brownbuddha - May 11, 2008
Was the start delayed? and for how long?
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
By about an hour
dbaltman - May 11, 2008
yes it was game started at 215
dariot2 - May 11, 2008
58 minutes
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Dome is wearing a pink armband on his left wrist.
How PC of him. He’s adapting well.
I hate that skinny guy.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
Dome
seems to bail out quite a bit…might be why the leagues seems to be consistently pitching him away.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 11, 2008
Doesnt seem to be working.
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
I really like Juan's aarm
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
wish we still had him.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 11, 2008
Why?
He was Farnsworth without the muscles.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
Yeah man...
...he SUCKED.
(Insert santoswoodenlegs “SUCKED” image here)
Dan
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
I love you
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
I had you at "suck".
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
oh my god that's cute and gross all at once
Emelie - May 11, 2008
That's funny...
my wife said the same thing to me on our honeymoon.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
HAHAHAHA!
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
awww
sue369 - May 11, 2008
Still like Juan's arm after the 2-run shot?
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
Geo walks
sue369 - May 11, 2008
did women get the right to vote
before or after mothers day was first recognized?
MJMars - May 11, 2008
after 1920
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Women have the right to vote?
Who’s stupid idea was that?
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
LOL
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
ahem.....
sue369 - May 11, 2008
What sue?
It’s not enough you get to be the wives and be in charge of us at home? You want to muscle in on our little boy’s voting club too?
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
you betcha
sue369 - May 11, 2008
some stupid liberals i am sure
MJMars - May 11, 2008
surely
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
I'm not going to take that bait
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
after, nationally, if mothers day began in 1908
dogcatratcheese - May 11, 2008
DAN'S BACK!! Woooo!!
Finals were here at the KU PhD program…time to procrastinate with the best of ‘em here at BCB…
Dan
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
I have a question
why is it abbreviated KU but said University of Kansas? Why must you guys not abide by normal abbreviations, WHY?!
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Because UK was taken...
by Kan-Tukie.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
and Great Britain.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
Well, the University of South Carolina
don’t mind being called USC.
Neither does Appalachian State University (ASU). Maybe because they’re so hot hot HOT!
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
7 seconds
That’s all i could take
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
KU = UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS
UK = UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY
And because we are badass motherfuckers; went 12-1 and Orange Bowl Champions, and 37-3 and National Champions; so we can do whatever the hell we want.
Dan
PS – Seriously, I think it was to differentiate ourselves from UK.
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
Makes about as much sense...
as the Rock Chalk cheer.
Kansas25 - May 11, 2008
Your name is "Kansas25"...
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
My head is about to explode from the irony here.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Lived in Manhattan for 10 years...
So…yeah. K-State man myself, I suppose. Probably heading to KU for grad school, so i suppose I better get used to all things KU.
The rock chalk cheer just doesn’t resonate well with fans whose teams are getting beaten by Kansas. :)
Kansas25 - May 11, 2008
KU vs KSU isn't a rivalry...
...a rivalry requires TWO teams that are good. KSU doesn’t have that.
Dan
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
Um...
ok.
Kansas25 - May 11, 2008
BURN!!
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Don't get me started Nittany!!
My undergraduate degree is from Wisconsin. I’ll keep my distance from you, but it’s really Michigan and Ohio State I hate. Why do I hate OSU so much? It’s the “THE” Ohio State that I hate, passionately, passionately hate.
Dan
sarcasm…but only kinda for OSU
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
Ugh... OSU
How many Buckeye freshman does it take to screw in a light bulb?
None. It’s a senior course.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
That was a frisbie
not a baseball.
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
Nasty slider.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 11, 2008

zevkalman - May 11, 2008
Anyone else see

and exect her top to come off
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Would it have been worth seeing?
zevkalman - May 11, 2008

Chanman25 - May 11, 2008

Reddevil - May 11, 2008

MJMars - May 11, 2008
Sucks at football AND singing
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
Christ
he should have had Jessica sing it instead.
sue369 - May 11, 2008
Jessica may have to break up with him after that
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
Maybe she
is there and that’s why we are behind. ;-)
sue369 - May 11, 2008
wow, that was really BAD!
LOL!
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
WORST ... SINGER ... EVER!
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
Not as bad as Ozzy Osborne's 7th inning stretch
GateCity, VA Cubs Fan - May 11, 2008
he was terrible
belongs up there with Ozzy DItka and Santo
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
or Jeff Gordon's "Wrigley Stadium" chant
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
Could they get the 7th inning stretch guys a pitch pipe?
My god. That was awful
I am sure he will never live that down come training camp
Ross - May 11, 2008
They need to make these guys audition
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
i would have preferred nails on a chalkboard
MJMars - May 11, 2008
reed would have been hit b that
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Romo pees sitting down like a girl.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Pie Suck
brownbuddha - May 11, 2008
Ok...I now officially give the Cubs permission to score 5 runs this inning.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
whew
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
"So tony"
“You just sang the worst version TMOTTBG this season, and among the worst ever. Do you think fans will blame that on Jessica Simpson wearing a pink jersey?”
Ross - May 11, 2008
Late Question
Does anyone know why everyone booed Tony Romo?
Hey Moe - May 11, 2008
He plays for the Cowgirls
cubs ftw - May 11, 2008
Because he's ugly?
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
Because he sucks at everything.
(He’s a Cowboy).
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
He deserves it
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
cuz hes in chicago
we are all bears fans
dariot2 - May 11, 2008
um....
Dallas Cowboys + complete screw up of the 7th inning stretch
you do the math
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
LQ
so because he played for the cowboys that means chicago fans cant like him? Or is it that he’s from wisconsin? Cowboys didn’t do anything to the bears this season
Hey Moe - May 11, 2008
Except beat them 34-10
Sorry, Im a Cowboy fan.
Romo is a good qb and he sucked singing.
Any way go cubs.
Zy Toro Young - May 11, 2008
Because he's voting for Hillary.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008

NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Romo talking the smack in the box,

Ross - May 11, 2008
Romo watches the Lifetime Channel.

All in good fun...
Schwa - May 11, 2008
Romo take notes
that’s what you call “clutch”
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
You mean to tell Romo that clutch isn't
getting tackled at the 1-yard line after a muffed field goal, and starting to cry about it?
Well, shit.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
haha lets get some runs!

Schwa - May 11, 2008
no
it only encourages them
Emelie - May 11, 2008
yep
sue369 - May 11, 2008
I think it serves as a nice little reminder...
that you will get tackled and arrested. If they’re drunk enough to run on the field, I doubt they’re in a state of mind where they’re remembering if they saw someone do it on tv.
Schwa - May 11, 2008
I'd like to see the guy get beaten by security. That is always the highlight.
Ross - May 11, 2008
Indeed
Reddevil - May 11, 2008
Ooohhh Al's not gonna like this one...
...if I remember correctly, the last two guys were given felonies?
Dan
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
I don't know about that
You get a misdemeanor for getting on the field. You get a felony if you touch and ump or a player.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Hold on I'll find it
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
Well, I can't find a FREE version of the article...
but it does appear that the boys were being charged with felonies.
Dan
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
FOUND IT!!
Pled guilty to a felony count of trespassing. Wow.
I’m so proud of my research abillities on the internets; I knew my “research in education” PhD class would come in handy.
Dan
dtpollitt - May 11, 2008

dtpollitt - May 11, 2008
Well color me surprised.
Felony to walk on the field? Hot damn.
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008

Reddevil - May 11, 2008

Hey Moe - May 11, 2008
lol me too I really want to see him
Chanman25 - May 11, 2008
The irony is if they showed the drunk on TV it would be really embarasing for him
..and logged on tape forever
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
I just want to see
security beating the snot out of them…
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008

A no-hitter.
Ross - May 11, 2008
Hahaha
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Was it MBDNIU on the field?
He may have gotten so upset that Fonty was able to work the count for a walk…and that Reed came through with the tying HR.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
LMAO
That was your best funny today, and you’ve had a number of them already. “-)
zevkalman - May 11, 2008

I was at that game
Good times.
JohnM - May 11, 2008
Falling out of the bleachers
seems a reasonable response to a Reed Johnson HR. In fact it wouldnt surprise me to find out it was a certain BCB poster.
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
LMAO!!!
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
Hmmm....
I wonder if beer was involved?
Ross - May 11, 2008
That might explain
how RJ hit it out!
californiachicagoan - May 11, 2008
So now the question is....
in this close game do we use Marmol?
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
We should use Howry...
obviously.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
eeek
it wouldn’t be an issue if Lou hadn’t brought him in yesterday!
MJMars - May 11, 2008

dariot2 - May 11, 2008

NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
Yeah...I don't want Marmol or A-Rod on my team..
they both suck in the postseason.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
I think we've put that particular
defeat to rest, with this series. Even if we lose this game, I think we’ve outplayed the best team in baseball quite well.
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
Marmol

fischisgod - May 11, 2008

zevkalman - May 11, 2008
Intentional Walk
for Soriano
Morg98 - May 11, 2008
They are going to walk him.
This was a given to set up the DP, that is why they pulled back Ward. Ward will hit for Pie.
Ross - May 11, 2008
who's left on the Bench?
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
Cedeno only one, I think
NittanyCub - May 11, 2008
SOrinao walked!!!!!!!!
was it Miguel Cabrera that swung at an intentional ball??
fischisgod - May 11, 2008

sue369 - May 11, 2008
Yeah, we didn't
throw back to back to back no hitters, we only outscored them 16-7, and Sori is above the Mendoza line.
BigJohnAZ - May 11, 2008
SWEEP
That feels good to sweep a team of that caliber
columbusOHcubsfan - May 11, 2008
Hopefully we start off good tomorrow against the worst scoring team in baseball and keep rolling
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
now we get Z tmw too!
JB 23 - May 11, 2008
That's really the best part!

Our Johnson was longer than their's today!
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
Nice.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 11, 2008
Hey, snakes only got 5 hits today!
Cubs pitching has been very good this series.
zevkalman - May 11, 2008
So let me ask:
Since we Swept the Mets (Supposedly the best team ever to grace a baseball field) and we swept the D-Backs the best team in Baseball…..
What does that make the Cubs?????
Galvan316 - May 11, 2008
better.
:D
drewishdrewid - May 11, 2008
great game, great series...

fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Very Nice!
miamicanes - May 11, 2008
Need to play well vs.
the Padres…. Very interesting to see if Lieber pitches at all in the series. And i personally think if we can get Gallagher stretched out he should pitch…. He did very well today but just got gassed
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Agreed
It was great what the Cubs did for Gallagher. He was good enough to compete for a spot and very nearly won one. But instead of putting him in the bullpen, we kept him a starter (in the minors). Dempster said he had to train differently to get back into starting shape. After letting Leiber be the long-man, I believe we should continue our plan. And if Gallagher needs bailing out, then here comes Leiber.
JoeCub01 - May 11, 2008

WOOOOO!!!!!!!!
northsider - May 11, 2008
So excited now!!!!!!
fischisgod - May 11, 2008

slocs55 - May 11, 2008
No...
gotta not lose more than 1 out of 4 against the worst offense in the NL.
santoswoodenlegs - May 11, 2008
I think Sean should get another start.
Maybe Friday against the Pirates.

So apperantly the fan got onto the field from the bleachers....
What are you thinking AL?
fischisgod - May 11, 2008
Maybe this is a sign
the last 2 times I got into a car and turned on the radio after a major event in the lives of my brother and sister in law the Cubs were winning and the other team won the game as we turned on the radio.
Yesterday we got in the car after a big event in time to hear the rally in the 7th.
puckishcubsfan - May 11, 2008
One example
One example is we got in the car just in time to see the homerun in New York in 2004 that started the downfall.
puckishcubsfan - May 11, 2008
Meant today
Meant today and the 8th. Gosh my brain isn’t working. Wedding of friends but my brother and sister in law announced some big news to us

Nicely played weekend
The more I watch the Cards and Brewers, the more I think it really is the Cubs’ division to lose . . . but we’re looking for more, and this weekend was very encouraging.

A most perfect weekend. Winning the series with a sweep of one of the most – if not the most – difficult teams in MLB to sweep.
The only question now is can they continue this kind of play (not sweeps) but good solid play, win or lose, from now until Sept. ?
