but he was looking straight up over his head even while the baall crossed from one side of his body to the other and still managed to catch it knowing there was a hill
I hope the young man with a big mouth, and full of beer, who was sitting behind me in the Bleachers during Edmond’s first game as a Cub last week, and mouthing off to him the whole game, will now give him a break.
But I’ve been watching just in time to see Soto’s inside-the-park (actually a outside-the-park) homer. A few comments:
DLee must be tired. He sure doesn’t want to stand at the plate too long.
Lilly seems to have forgotten his curve and off-speed stuff. When they were hitting him, he was throwing almost nothing but the cheese. Still, he left with the lead.
Fabulous catch Jim Edmunds. I may have to start rooting for you.
Not fair to make Geo run all the way around. He almost tripped over his tongue on the way to home from 3rd.
Just sorry for Trey Hillman, former Nippon Ham Fighters manager – he had to go over to KC for press conference as new manager of KC, 3 days before the Japan Series began against Dome and Dragons (Dome is actually missing with elbow surgery).... that move was down fall for Fighters’ motivation and we beat them very badly at the Series.
The no-hitter is one of the most exciting moments (and rare these days) in sports. I can’t understand why you guys are complaining that ESPN switched over to see Lester finish off the Royals. I get goose bumps watching moments like this.
Seriously, it’s quite an accomplishment. I think the reaction would have been much less had it been a team other than the Red Sox, whose personal network is ESPN. We’re just borrowing it tonight.
I think people were upset because this is one of the times that those of us who often dont see games on TV got a chance. The right move by espn there is to tell us that the game will be put on espn2 and then we have choice.
the hitter that was carrying the astros cools off they cant produce the hitter that was carrying the cubs cools off cubs still have 12 hits thats a sign of a good team
He has more IP than any other reliever, except for Jon Lieber(I think). He needs rest to be effective for the rest of the season and (hopefully) postseason.
It’s not that I don’t want him to come in; pretty much the opposite. I want him in as much as possible, but as effective as possible as well.
but when the game is close you have to use the best available. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Hopefully this offense gives lou a chance to rest him down the stretch. If bringing him in means securing a victory in a close game, bring him in.
God, I hate it when we’re the visitors and the home team comes back and takes the lead in the bottom of the8th. It puts the visitors in a hell of a position coming to bat in the 9th.
Now that I’ve expressed my fears, I can glory in the fact that I don’t have to face that tonight.

I didn’t see Edmonds diving for and sliding into a wall while catching one….
But Edmonds did make a nice catch there too.

Bluelou - May 19, 2008
I think he was referring to Carlos Lee
But yeah I think Z and Edmonds have made amends nonetheless.
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008

Bluelou - May 19, 2008

louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Just got logged on.
He almost tripped over his tongue on the way to home from 3rd.

louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008

Emelie - May 19, 2008
I'm so glad they're going to keep us updated on BOS...
...cuz they haven’t so far. At all.
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
Wasn't Lester
the cancer survivor? Its hard to root against that.
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
yep
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
i hope he gets it
i just didnt want to hear about it 2093 times during this cub game.
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Agreed
It’s ubiquitous
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
Let's get 5 runs this inning,
then we can switch over on ESPN, no problem.
jbau - May 19, 2008
Lymphona
But that still makes me hate the Red Sox. Lets go Royallllss!
(Oh, he’s 24, he can do it for another team)
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
Take a fastball the other way Derrek
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008

Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Or up the middle

californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008

dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008

sue369 - May 19, 2008
I heard a lot of Cubs fans cheering during that RBI single.
Sounded good.
zevkalman - May 19, 2008
Cmon, DOME
hit one into those close box-seats!
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Steve Phillips just confirmed my suspicions...
that was a big, big run…
smmcctrk - May 19, 2008
I feel better having his confirmation.
What would we do without the ESPN sages helping us poor fools out?
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
LOL
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
I think ESPN
would break to the Sox game regardless
grifdog - May 19, 2008
That's really going to p___ me off!
If it happens. After all, this is a totally meaningless game. “Meaningless” is defined as any game not having the Yankees or the Red Sox in it.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
in which case I'll go to MLB audio and listen to Pat and Ron.
zevkalman - May 19, 2008
I call Dome HR
Just a feeling.
Zy Toro Young - May 19, 2008
Just a feeling? Are you sure
it’s not more than a feeling?
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
Not until he hits it.
Zy Toro Young - May 19, 2008
I guess I'm the only Boston fanatic here
I don’t mean the Red Sox.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
Let's steal a base here
Worst case, Dome leads off next inning
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008

Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Dome with a hit.

sue369 - May 19, 2008

cocknfire - May 19, 2008

noiseboy - May 19, 2008
Hey ESPN
why Boston?
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
WTF
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
Updates?
Why didn’t they just interrupt the arena football game on ESPN2?
Villeslgr - May 19, 2008
relegate the sox to ESPN2?
what are you, high? they really should break into all stations for this
grifdog - May 19, 2008
Hahahah
There might be a Presidential Address in an hour to honor the greatness that is the Red So.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
Maybe the BOS or NY arena teams are playing
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
Is it a Boston/New York team playing?
smmcctrk - May 19, 2008
Actually
It’s Chicago and LA
Villeslgr - May 19, 2008
Prob an arena football contract
Rudey - May 19, 2008
Doesn't ESPN own a share of the Arena League?
That would be your answer…
jbau - May 19, 2008
IT'S KANSAS GDAMN CITY
GIVING UP A NO-HITTER IS WHAT THEY CALL A “TUESDAY”!!!
I WANT TO SEE THE CUBS!
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008

Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008

Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
Then I'll root for a DP
cocknfire - May 19, 2008

californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
Dejesus
nobody messes with dejesus
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Lester still throwing gas
91 mph. I don’t mind the cutaway.
Bildo1805 - May 19, 2008
We will probably have to watch the post game celebration as well...
smmcctrk - May 19, 2008
so far
royals are swinging at everything. I think I could pitch a 2-hitter.
grifdog - May 19, 2008
I missed Dome's basehit...
ESPN sucks…. it’s enough to switch to Boston if it goes one more out to no-hitter… and it is televised on NHK here in Japan…
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
ahh yes. welcome to the World Wide Leader
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
so, just for my edification
is an inside-the-park HR actually “smallball”? I mean, it’s certainly station-to-station…
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Lester just got squeezed on a 1-1 pitch
in the 9th inning of a no-no. We thought BF was bad.
Bildo1805 - May 19, 2008
bad thing is if he gets it ESPN will have highlights for it for ten m inutes
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
No, they'll cancel the season and award the World Series to the Sox right now.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Hahahahahahhaaha!
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
he got it.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Wow...
I’m so glad I turned on the Cubs game tonight. I wanted to see Boston play.
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
Len says
Hill is on the 7-day disabled list for AAA Iowa.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Glennallen?
Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
hill in CF
somebody finally got rid of it, for a week anyway
grifdog - May 19, 2008
soto swung at the first pitch
why?
GHCF2314 - May 19, 2008
Alright, give it to him
I don’t give a shit, I want to see the Cubs game.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
this isn't just any no-no
Which, for any no-no, they’d cut in.
This is a good story, too.
Bildo1805 - May 19, 2008
Wigginton with a comebacker to Lieber. 1 out
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
thx for the update.
My gameday audio doesn’t seem to work anymore under Linux. Will have to wait for ESPN to switch back to the Cubbies.
zevkalman - May 19, 2008
Try the 2007 edition of gameday, which should work with mplayer
jbau - May 19, 2008
Ausmus flies out to right. 2 outs
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
Leiber throwing well
2 outs the second on one pitch
GHCF2314 - May 19, 2008
A homer here would be ok
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
i hope he blows it
bheidge - May 19, 2008
Erstad in for the pitcher
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
2-0

GHCF2314 - May 19, 2008
either way we got 15 hours of coverage coming up on ESPN
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Len did just
say that Geo’s homerun was ruled an inside the park homerun.
sue369 - May 19, 2008
yeah... Now back to the game!
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
Congrats to Lester..
jbau - May 19, 2008

californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008

Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
Now we get to see the celebration for 2 hours
effectively ending all the Cubs viewing that was suppose to be seen tonight.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
can we switch back now?
please
noiseboy - May 19, 2008
Please, save the post-game interview for ESPN News.
And someone just dropped the f bomb in that huddle.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
yes, yes they did haha
Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
ok espn dont need to see them celebrating.........
for 15 fuckin minutes
bheidge - May 19, 2008
I want very bad
to beat them in the World Series.
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
Bosox have had a string of them
Nomo, Lowe, Buchholz, Lester.
And yes, PLEASE SWITCH US BACK NOW!
jbau - May 19, 2008

Now, how about the one in Houston you aH_!
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
OK, ESPN, switch to the game please.
The sight of guys hugging is getting a little tiresome.
zevkalman - May 19, 2008
Fenway looks like a rockin' good time right now.
Awesome story for Lester and his comeback. Nowwwww back to reality. Where are we?
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008
sorry all, can't go back to the cubs game
I’m quite sure they called a stoppage in the game to pay tribute to the greatest sports team ever, the boston red sox
grifdog - May 19, 2008
Glory be
They’re back
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
god I hate the bosox
creeping into yankee,cardinal,brewer territory
bheidge - May 19, 2008
It's not the Red Sox in and of themselves.
I’m just sick of ESPN showing nothing but that team.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
as a red sox fan (it's in the family)
hear hear. I really understand your frustration but… go sox!
Emelie - May 19, 2008
End yourself
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
classic
brownbuddha - May 19, 2008
Wesley Wright the new Astros pitcher
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
yay...we are back...
we will just have to hear them analyze the no-no while watching the 3 announcers instead of the game…
smmcctrk - May 19, 2008
It's gonna be so awesome
when we beat them in 7 at Wrigley this year.
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008
I'd prefer
to do it in 4
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
I'd prefer
We get there first
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
That's what I'm looking forward to!
Emelie - May 19, 2008
Except now they'll talk about it all day
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
whoa!!!
whered my red sox game go?
?
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
even when they go back to the game...they don't go back the game
Bar1908 - May 19, 2008
No-hitter over KC
who cares? ;-)
Just sorry for Trey Hillman, former Nippon Ham Fighters manager – he had to go over to KC for press conference as new manager of KC, 3 days before the Japan Series began against Dome and Dragons (Dome is actually missing with elbow surgery).... that move was down fall for Fighters’ motivation and we beat them very badly at the Series.
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
Eastern Sports Propaganda Network
Bump Bailey - May 19, 2008
hey
congrats this kid deserves it more than anyone!
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
People are on point in Wikipedia
They not only have his page updated, but the whole list of no-hitters updated as well. I guess I only find that impressive.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
I find it sad...
...that people have enough time on their hands to talk about sports online in real time…
oh, wait a minute
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
Yeah
what a bunch of losers. lol
Zy Toro Young - May 19, 2008
Wikipedia
Always seems to be on the ball…
Bump Bailey - May 19, 2008
its cool,
z-will do it soon too.
xene - May 19, 2008
yes
That’s exactly my thought when this stuff happens. I can’t wait for the day Carlos throws his no-no. Wrigley will be exploding.
Caheisey - May 19, 2008
edmonds
can we get him some juice please?
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008

californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008

Reddevil - May 19, 2008
whyyy

CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
nice bunt attempt jim
full swing? oh, sorry jim
grifdog - May 19, 2008
Z will have to go 4 for 5 to throw a no hitter...
apparently he is more worried about his bat then the bump
Bar1908 - May 19, 2008
Umm... he's been
pretty good on the mound.
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
he melted down with a lead because of a bad at-bat saturday
Bar1908 - May 19, 2008
He was pitching poorly all day
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
It was one time. Sheesh
sue369 - May 19, 2008
Z's not allowed to have a bad day
nor is Alfonso Soriano
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
Because if they do, it automatically shows that they're on the decline.
All the super knowledgeable baseball fans know that. God you’re a n00b
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
wasn't because
of the at-bat.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
DeRo alive!
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
Sori woulda got that one
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008

louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
LOL
Very Good!
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
He also completed the no-spray on the toilet after his congratulatory pee
Truly remarkable, truly a man’s man.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
Steve Phillips will break down his release angle...
smmcctrk - May 19, 2008
Hhahaha!
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
Joe Morgan would comment that Bonds would have done it better
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
No...
He would have noted that if some of those balls hadn’t been caught, they would have been hits (he actually said that once)
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
No-hitter celebration
Just like this….
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
LOL nice...
Nice sig too :D
GoCubbies34 - May 19, 2008

californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008

dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
he's pitched with them since 2006.
are you thinking of Joe Borowski? He’s on the Indians DL.
bikemonkey - May 19, 2008
I thought he was an Indian
Didnt realize this was someone else
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
I'm interested in what the Yanks think about the no hitter
including Hank Steinbrenner, can we get an interview pls.
grifdog - May 19, 2008
hank's response
ESPN completely made up the Lester no-hitter. They created footage and it was all acted out
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
like in Seinfeld?
xene - May 19, 2008
who came up with onedec?
i know this was posted by Al before but i want to make sure I have it straight so I can give credit when i use it.
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Murton?
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
I don’t know, but its brilliant.

Arbusto, santoswoodenlegs, and dat cubfan daver came up with ONEDEC
http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2008/4/7/390464/open-thread-cubs-vs-pirate#4411667
Arbusto suggested spelling Cedeno backwards but dropping the “EC,” leaving “O NED.”
santoswoodenlegs responded
Then dat cubfan daver came up with
flachimesa - May 19, 2008
I like all the 3-2 counts I'm seeing in this game.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
ONEDEC
on base machine, too bad he only gets 4 ABs a week.
grifdog - May 19, 2008
Nice AB by him
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
we really gotta get him in at SS. I like the riot but onedec could be really good.
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
cubs trying to add on some BIG runs
as opposed to little runs which are just worthless
grifdog - May 19, 2008
Those little runs just clog up the scoreboard.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
i heard
that a run in the 8th and 9th is worth the same as in the 1st 2nd and 3rd. I could be wrong though.
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Ask the sages at ESPN. They'll help us.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Joe Morgan says
players that cross home plate from third score runs.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Does anyone know what date the MLB draftis?

Cmon, Soriano!
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Possibly something in the Crawford seats?
dbaltman - May 19, 2008
Possibly not.
dbaltman - May 19, 2008
Not unless those seats are in the Cubs dugout.
Ouch I hurt my own feelings
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
boo!!
how was THAT a strike on Sori
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
The one up and out?

louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Ok, I'll tell you different.

Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
that sounds
Hawkish.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
WTF CEDENO?!
ya know, if he had kept running to 3rd that last leg, he woulda made it but he stopped
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
btw
bad baserunning in general, terrible actually – forgot to point that out
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
Cedeno
of old reappeared!
lance dickson - May 19, 2008
at least we got the run
cubbiefanTN - May 19, 2008
Great job dumbass
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
Cedeno is clever
That move insured the insurance run. Clever move.
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
really?
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
yes. players are now taught to get in a picvkle so the throw is cut off so DeRo will score
Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
Just not sure that was necessary
And we know Cedeno has a history
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
I think so
If he was the tying run or go-ahead run runner, he won’t try to reach 3rd base
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
EXACTLY
Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
No
That is a legit move, but it was not needed here,
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
Yep
Schizo - May 19, 2008
Insurance run was already safe. Cedeno lost us the next insurance run
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
Len and Bob
both called it an insurance run. I’ll take their word for it.
sue369 - May 19, 2008
What are you talking about?
I called it an insurance run too.
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
i think maybe he was thinking that
but wouldn’t derosa have scored anyway?
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
yes
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
If you guys can not trust your bullpen, yes it is bad move
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
Bullpen: solid.
Confidence: high
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
well, looks like it was bad move
Kaz basehit – your bullpen has some problem…
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
If you can not trust that Derosa can walk 5 feet in under 5 seconds, then it was a good move
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
Can he?
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
Baseball 101
That’s what you do in that situation…
Bump Bailey - May 19, 2008
Thanks we know that. Derosa was going to be safe standing up though. Unnecessary
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
moises alou called
he said that was terrible baserunning
grifdog - May 19, 2008
lol
dbaltman - May 19, 2008
onedec...
at least he drew the walk….. right
cubbiefanTN - May 19, 2008
yeah cedeno really deserves
to be starting at SS over Theriot…..nice job on the walk though
bheidge - May 19, 2008
Dude, are you honestly going to base on who starts on SS
because of baserunning?
You’re saying that, CEDENO shouldn’t start over THERIOT because of HIS bad base running?
ARE YOU HIGH?
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
im saying theriot has done nothing to lose his spot
driving a run in there while cedeno gets caught up. Lou tends to look at those things when making his starting lineup
bheidge - May 19, 2008
NO NO NO Cedno did the right thing!
ONEDEC is supposed to get in a pickle so the throw is cut off and the run scores. It was a VERY smart p[lay.
Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
lol no
grifdog - May 19, 2008
whatever.
Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
true ONLY IF dero was going to be out
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
DeRosa had already scored though
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008
Nope.
Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
yea he did
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
nope
Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
he was awful close.
they had to hit the cutoff man anyway.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
He was going to score standing up. It was a slow roller up the middle off the mound.
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
Agree to disagree.
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008
fine
Disagree with Bob and Pat too becuase they are explaining what a great play it was.
Keystone80435 - May 19, 2008
well they credited it with a run nonetheless
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
Wtf?
How long was that pickle, 6-7 seconds? If DeRosa hadn’t scored before then, then something is terminally wrong with him.
Think about it, dude. Not hard.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
He was going to
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
If they'd had a chance at DeRosa they'd have thrown it home.
Do you really think they’d give up a run to get an out this late in the game?
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
they didnt have a chance
on getting derosa, if they did he wouldnt have cut the throw off
bheidge - May 19, 2008
Yeah, Cedeno essentially killed a good inning with the no. 3 hitter coming up.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Anyone up
In the ‘pen?
dbaltman - May 19, 2008
Marmol
Schizo - May 19, 2008
Thanks.
dbaltman - May 19, 2008
Onedec being silly running the bases.
Its all in good fun.
Zy Toro Young - May 19, 2008
Why is Wuertz throwing 0-2 pitches right down the middle?
RightFieldSucks - May 19, 2008
He's clever
Like Cedeno
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
No-Hitter!!
The no-hitter is one of the most exciting moments (and rare these days) in sports. I can’t understand why you guys are complaining that ESPN switched over to see Lester finish off the Royals. I get goose bumps watching moments like this.
ronsanto10 - May 19, 2008
I'd rather watch the Cubs.
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
I get constipated.
Seriously, it’s quite an accomplishment. I think the reaction would have been much less had it been a team other than the Red Sox, whose personal network is ESPN. We’re just borrowing it tonight.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
He got him!!!
come on!
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
nevermind
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
Theriot
botches the tage
Reddevil - May 19, 2008
Pitch was off
Schizo - May 19, 2008
Sorry *Throw
Schizo - May 19, 2008
Thought so too
But no, bad hop.
GoCubbies34 - May 19, 2008
And takes some nice spikes to the knee
smmcctrk - May 19, 2008
how exactly?
bheidge - May 19, 2008
blame soto for that one
cubbiefanTN - May 19, 2008
damnit come on wuertz
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
DAMNIT
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008
Marmol in
Schizo - May 19, 2008
Lester had a no hitter?
I had no idea until just now. Why didn’t ESPN let us know?
dbaltman - May 19, 2008
Marmol
coming in. Shhoulda left Lieber in, frankly.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
is marmol
coming in?
cubbiefanTN - May 19, 2008
here comes the gorilla
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
Give Marmol a damn rest
Start someone else, shit.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
who?
Wood will probably close. Lou took Lieber out. Marshall’s in AAA, Eyre pitched yesterday (I think).
Other than Marmol, you got Wuertz, who screwed the pooch, and Howry. You wanna let HOWRY pitch? Or FOX?
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Eyre's last game was on Sunday.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
"hurts" did his job
Bar1908 - May 19, 2008
Here comes Marmol
Wuertz lays an egg….big surprise. If we can get out of this with only one run I’ll be thrilled.
RightFieldSucks - May 19, 2008
espn
I think people were upset because this is one of the times that those of us who often dont see games on TV got a chance. The right move by espn there is to tell us that the game will be put on espn2 and then we have choice.
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Let's hope Marmol has that filthy stuff he had yesterday.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
its all designed to get wood a save opp.
Bar1908 - May 19, 2008
NOOO
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008
yeah lou
get fired up baby
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
let em have it!
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
LOU IS pissed
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008
i hate joe wests fat face
he was the jackass who called a HR last year in Cinci a double.
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
WTF
WTF is up with these tag calls
Schizo - May 19, 2008
LOOK AT THE REPLAY!!!
Schizo - May 19, 2008
Ok, Lou, give him hell, but don't let Marmol stew on the mound too long.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
that was anticlimatic
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
OUT!
dbaltman - May 19, 2008
HE WAS OUT!
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008

bheidge - May 19, 2008

Bar1908 - May 19, 2008

dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
how the hell could he NOT see that! He was looking RIGHT AT HIM!!!
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
he was out!!!
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008
Out...
NO doubt..
Bump Bailey - May 19, 2008
replay clearly had him out
Emelie - May 19, 2008
ump blew the call.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Joe West blows the call. I hate these umps.
zevkalman - May 19, 2008
MY GAWD
he was gone EASY WHAT F*CKING BS THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US WAY TOO MUCH
oops left it on caps
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
BAD CALLL!!!!!!!!!
but at least we got the out
cubbiefanTN - May 19, 2008
yeah it was close though
I will give him that
bheidge - May 19, 2008
But the ump...was staring RIGHT AT THE RUNNER!
he should have easily had that
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
yeah you know what. Your right
we have been getting fucked on all sorts of calls this year. Including the HR tonight
bheidge - May 19, 2008
that was a terrible call
he should do what the ump did last night in new york and confess he was wrong
dariot2 - May 19, 2008
base open. walk ok. nibble at the edges.
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
Don't want to put the lead run on??
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
good point, but this guy is too hot
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
marmol
give em that slide piece baby
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
we need a strike out
cubbiefanTN - May 19, 2008
And I'm nervous
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008
that second out would really help with 1st open
Bar1908 - May 19, 2008
Chase those pitches
Schizo - May 19, 2008
Most dangerous hitter at the plate
but cannot walk him in the situation…
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
POWER ON POWER
yikes…
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
2-2
come on….. strike out!!!
cubbiefanTN - May 19, 2008
if i were lou and marmol
you could put ruth up there, i still try to K him with my stuff.
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Berkman just baffled by those two
throw it again!
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
I have a feeling that baserunning blunder
is going to come back to bite us in the ass
McRipper - May 19, 2008
Lord...
they’re still telling us that Lester had a no-hitter…it’s BREAKING NEWS
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
Full Count
Schizo - May 19, 2008
Now, with 3-2 I think you walk him.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Or strike him out
Bump Bailey - May 19, 2008
YES!
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008

grifdog - May 19, 2008
Can we
Just start calling Marmol “Filthy?” “Nasty?” I’m open to suggestions.
dbaltman - May 19, 2008
White Castle.
Filthy sliders.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Oh, that's good.
dbaltman - May 19, 2008
I didn't come up with it.
I heard it here first.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
i kinda like inserting carlos marmol into chuck norris jokes
but i do like white castle
dariot2 - May 19, 2008
Unfortunately
All Chuck Norris Jokes have been taken over by Bob Sanders. I like White Castle.
dbaltman - May 19, 2008
lol i'm on board
RightFieldSucks - May 19, 2008
Marmol a bit wild here.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
STRIKE HIM OUT!
shut the hell up steve phillips. You say thats a controversial call yet you don’t bitch abotu that clear throw out at 2nd?
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
Marmol is the baddest reliever in the majors
philadelphiacub - May 19, 2008
Please don't piss off el Cabayo
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
Thats two face buzzer for Lee
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
Soon to clear the bench?
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
Doubtful
Schizo - May 19, 2008
nah, would have to hit him here.
Bildo1805 - May 19, 2008
Are we trying to hit Lee?
Bildo1805 - May 19, 2008
no
grifdog - May 19, 2008
how "bout that high and tight
cubbiefanTN - May 19, 2008
the hitter that was carrying the astros cools off they cant produce
the hitter that was carrying the cubs cools off cubs still have 12 hits
thats a sign of a good team
dariot2 - May 19, 2008
btw berkman DID go around
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
Wow, suspect strike out
3-1 count
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
nicely done
and you didnt want Marmol to come in.
bheidge - May 19, 2008
Think about the bigger picture here, bheidge.
He has more IP than any other reliever, except for Jon Lieber(I think). He needs rest to be effective for the rest of the season and (hopefully) postseason.
It’s not that I don’t want him to come in; pretty much the opposite. I want him in as much as possible, but as effective as possible as well.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
well i think resting marmol was the idea behind bringing wuertz in
but that clearly wasnt working
philadelphiacub - May 19, 2008
i see your point
but when the game is close you have to use the best available. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Hopefully this offense gives lou a chance to rest him down the stretch. If bringing him in means securing a victory in a close game, bring him in.
bheidge - May 19, 2008
Really going to be worrying about it
when Marmol starts having arm problems. Lou is over using him. This is the crap Dusty got chased out of town for.
JonH - May 19, 2008
Actually I was wrong
He’s pitched more than Jon Lieber. 4.3 innings more, actually.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
he stands on the plate
thats good pitcheing
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Marmol get out of it!
jbau - May 19, 2008
wow!
I love Carlos Marmol.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
YEAH!
marmol is the MAN
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
that"s a HOLD!!!!
cubbiefanTN - May 19, 2008
That brash-up worked well
dragonsfanatic - May 19, 2008
Ground out

NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
Marmol Pitching the 9th?
Should he? Options?
Schizo - May 19, 2008

louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Is Wood not available?
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
No
Can’t let him do it.
Bildo1805 - May 19, 2008
No way
Wood
GoCubbies34 - May 19, 2008
Why not?
Bump Bailey - May 19, 2008
Woody
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Man I get nervous when Aramis does the slow glove pat before throwing
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008
Whew
Marmol for MVP
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
One of the announcers...
here in St. Louis went on a big rant because Marmol got an MVP vote last year
smmcctrk - May 19, 2008
White Castle
Does his thing with those filthy sliders..
Bump Bailey - May 19, 2008
YES!!!!
MARMOL IS AWESOME!! ALLSTAR!!
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
Good job, Marmol. Now go and rest, and ice that arm!
zevkalman - May 19, 2008
2nd overflow up
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008
Woooh!!
God, I hate it when we’re the visitors and the home team comes back and takes the lead in the bottom of the8th. It puts the visitors in a hell of a position coming to bat in the 9th.
Now that I’ve expressed my fears, I can glory in the fact that I don’t have to face that tonight.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
marmol > joba
xene - May 19, 2008
Ron Santo...
... was really agitated about some fan waving a sign blocking his view during the Berkman at-bat.
I think he said, “I’ll hit him!” Or maybe it was a “Hit it here!” sign and he was saying “I’ll hit it!”
aldimond - May 19, 2008
Second overflow thread available.
Go here.
