You could very well be correct, I just know they have been inconsistent this year, esp. Howry. But, maybe they will pick it up as the season continues. By the way, who is our left handed reliever?
Unfortunately, we have been here before (1969, 1984, 1989, 1999, 2003, 2007). But, perhaps this is truly our year. God, I hope so, we deserve something better than, “wait till next year.”
It’s far more clever than A-Ram or D-Lee. (A week or two ago, I was listening to the radio, where the sports talk host person was reading an e-mail where the writer referred to the Vikings quarterback as “T-Jack.” I had to resist the temptation to drive my car straight into a tree.)
“The Catch,” great bullpen work, Ted Lilly keeping his team in the game, the brilliancy of Kosuke, the excitement of Geovany Soto, the clutch hitting of Aramis Ramirez. And Lance Berkman reaching for a snack at 1st base (actually, I love Fat Elvis…he is a great player).
Johnson or Edmonds? I really am having trouble deciding because initially I would say Edmonds should have been looking over his right shoulder which would have made the catch a little more routine. Then I think about it and with that ball being hit by Pence (I think) it was probably tailing toward right center a bit. I think what Edmonds does so well is his ability to look down to find out where he is in relation to the track and the wall and then relocate the ball quickly. I’m leaning towards Johnson because of how far he covered and the fact he had to dive onto the track. I’m sure I can be convinced otherwise. Side note, I really hope we don’t wear down Marmol to the point of being ineffective in the later part of the season and the playoffs. I wouldn’t mind giving him time off until the 23rd because the Cubs don’t have another off day until the 9th of June,

Keep him benched till he stops hitting!
Al Yellon - May 19, 2008

i did it w/fonzie and we’ve all seen how that worked out (did it after the cardinal game where he was horrific and then hit the HR)

finally
looks like Lee and Rammy are out of their slumps. Marmol probably gets a save opp tonight as well
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
No, someone else has to pitch the 9th.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Nope.
Enough Marmol today. He qualifies for a save, but he ought to come out now. Enough, before his arm falls off.
Al Yellon - May 19, 2008
true
Fox should get some playing time
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
And he'd look real funny without an arm.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
And it'd be hard for him to pitch.
Al Yellon - May 19, 2008
i bet he could do it lefty
dariot2 - May 19, 2008
who needs arms?

drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
WHY?????
When are we going to use Chad Fox? Seriously.
Are we waiting for aliens to beam our bullpen up when Fox is in the clubhouse pinching one off?
Bildo1805 - May 19, 2008
blow out duty
thats my guess
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Those don't seem to be happening.

which is why he's sitting.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Which is why he needs a different role.

use him
when we’re getting blown out, and someone has to eat innings who won’t care about their era.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
I dunno, but...
... why bother having 12 pitchers if you’re not going to use one of them at all?
Al Yellon - May 19, 2008

a couple innings ago this is what I heard:

I loathe ESPN
Announcers are so oblivious
Schizo - May 19, 2008
Announcers?? I thought those were bobble-head dolls.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Less Annoying
Bobble-heads aren’t as loud and annoying.
Schizo - May 19, 2008
I have a set of...
... Thom and Marty Brennaman bobbleheads I got in Cincinnati last September.
They’re only slightly less annoying than the real thing.
Al Yellon - May 19, 2008
better than Mr. Morgan
bheidge - May 19, 2008
alrighty lets finish it off
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
Edmonds still just looks weird in a Cubs uniform...
MinnesotaFan - May 19, 2008
i agree.. i said it earlier
hes the first cub that hasnt looked like he fit in, in a cubs jersey.. its just wierd
dariot2 - May 19, 2008
Yeah he does.
He looks malplaced. The color blue fits him like how a size 4 leotard fits Eddy Curry.
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
TAG FOR SWL
Anyone want to start him a list?
Bildo1805 - May 19, 2008

that actually worked out pretty well...
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008

That hurt.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Here we go.
Howry for the close!
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
Here's something to chew on
League Leader in K’s: Lincecum has 63 K’s in 56.1 Innings
Marmol has 41 K’s in ONLY 29 innings
That is incredible..
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
Hot freaking damn, great stat Chanman.
That’s unbelievable
NittanyCub - May 19, 2008
All the pitchers...
... ahead of Marmol in K’s in the NL are starters. He leads all relievers in strikeouts.
Al Yellon - May 19, 2008
Joba who?
Chanman25 - May 19, 2008
AMAZING STAT
CubbyBlues - May 19, 2008

alabebo - May 19, 2008

Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Howry and Wuertz are our weakness
I don’t know if there is anything they can do about it, but these two stink.
Mr W - May 19, 2008
They don't
Just inconsistent
Schizo - May 19, 2008
I dunno about Wuertz.
He had a bad day today, but has been pretty consistent.
This game is important for Howry, if he can put them down 1-2-3 that’d be a big confidence builder for him.
Al Yellon - May 19, 2008
Hi AL,
You could very well be correct, I just know they have been inconsistent this year, esp. Howry. But, maybe they will pick it up as the season continues. By the way, who is our left handed reliever?
Mr W - May 19, 2008
Scott Eyre.
Remember him?
Al Yellon - May 19, 2008
Oh yeah,
Forgot about him.
Mr W - May 19, 2008
What is wrong with Wuertz?
Not everyone can be Marmol.

NittanyCub - May 19, 2008

Canseco's Roid Party - May 19, 2008
You could pretend that's Felix Pie in disguise.
Al Yellon - May 19, 2008
howry
he will be fine.
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
What the hell is this?
Have they just stopped paying any attention to the game?
cocknfire - May 19, 2008

Schizo - May 19, 2008

Schizo - May 19, 2008
Just kidding, FBI
cocknfire - May 19, 2008
I'm almost ready to turn the sound down at this point.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
And I am glad I have turned ESPN off and CSN back on.
Nice work, Howry, on that K!
Al Yellon - May 19, 2008
might be the catch of the year by Edmunds, kudos to him
alabebo - May 19, 2008
Agreed. That probably changed the course of the game.
Cubfansince1957 - May 19, 2008
Those long at bats from Aram and Dome back to back were big.
californiachicagoan - May 19, 2008

99 was horrid
Lost 95 games…
BartlettBob - May 19, 2008
dood.
We’re 9-11. We’re .500 on the road. We’re huge at home. Marmol CAN NOT BE HIT. And our catcher had an inside-the-park home-run.
Be happy!

W or Bust
Jayo525 - May 19, 2008
quick question. why do you guys call marmol white castle?
ARAM FOR MVP - May 19, 2008
White Castle has a burger called a slider i think
I never ate there before, but thats what I picked up on
GoCubbies34 - May 19, 2008
oh, thanks.
ARAM FOR MVP - May 19, 2008
Answer
I think it’s because Marmol serves up sliders that make you shit your pants.
15% - May 19, 2008
slider
I think we can probably do better than white castle. Lets get our top guys on this.
louisiana lumberman - May 19, 2008
At least they put some thought into it.
Cool Hand - May 20, 2008
Our top guys
came up with WC. It very much fits Marmol.
sue369 - May 20, 2008
A beautiful game
“The Catch,” great bullpen work, Ted Lilly keeping his team in the game, the brilliancy of Kosuke, the excitement of Geovany Soto, the clutch hitting of Aramis Ramirez. And Lance Berkman reaching for a snack at 1st base (actually, I love Fat Elvis…he is a great player).
MDBNIU - May 19, 2008
yeah, because Pie
wouldn’t have made that catch.
Give me a break.
drewishdrewid - May 19, 2008
?
what a non-sequitur re Pie. he didn’t make the catch. edmonds did. get over it.
i can’t believe i’m defending mdbniu!! and i only played baseball till freshman year of hi skool!!
joeschmitt - May 20, 2008
Better Catch
