it’s not often I agree with something Brenly says but he said “hey, they all count”. Sure if there’s no error, you get out of the inning that much faster, but if the pitcher still gives up tons of hits after that error, I’d say he’s not a very good pitcher.
... it’s a way of measuring how many runs are due strictly to the pitching. If the inning should have been over after an error, then how can you say “he gives up tons of hits so he’s not a very good pitcher”?
'cause he isn't bearing down, he lets it get into his head, he must be throwing meatballs up there, etc.
I agree of the need to distinguish from a statistical perspective, but a good pitcher should be able to get the next guy out (or pretty soon thereafter), regardless of what happened on the previous play.
hinting towards this, but Soto, and his bat, literally came out of nowhere last year. Honestly, take a look at his minor league history before 2007. I, for one, am kind of surprised that there haven’t been any rumblings of him and a steroid/HGH allegation. I’m happy obviously, but surprised.
There was a poster who also talked about this right before the Mitchell Report was released, but I forget his/her name.
It’ll take too long for me to go over there and retrieve ‘em. They’ll have to find this on their own. That’s why I post the overflow thread time in the main thread.
This was posted in the original game thread just now:
Reds VS. Cubs If we lose this series, someone must be brought to the throne! This isn`t acceptable. I have to believe the bench coach , Alan Trammel, has a better clue!

it’s the pitching coach’s job to manage the psyches of the pitchers. and so far we’ve seen usually good pitchers, pretty accurate (hill, marquis) losing their control.
but the record isnt very good… Not at all. He started with Baylor, then went to Baker and Kimm in the middle. I dont blame him. but there is a reason that we have lost a lot of good prospects/pitchers to injury… Not all him but yea
So the Cubs magic number has been 3 (as in it seems they can’t score more than 3 runs) and their last 7 losses have been by 3 runs or less…so not quite sure that watching the rest of this game is a great use of time. We can bemoan the pitching and defense all we want, but the offense has been putrid during this stretch.
By the way, on the Reds broadcast even though the replay clearly showed Lee’s foot stayed on the bag Brenneman refuses to acknowledge it was a bad call.
It absolutely pains me to no end that the Reds are
considered one of the home teams in my market even though I’m two states away. Listening to these two jackasses has really put me in a beligerent mood tonight. I wish I had their email so I could blast away on these two clowns. Not that they’d care, but it would make me feel better. The Cubs recent play is not helping my mood either.
the color guy brought up how after the steriods era started, when a player breaks out like that, that’s the first thing you think of. He quickly said “with all the testing now, you know that Soto’s not juiced”
They are only down a run, and their pitched has been rocked, and I mean rocked, just rope after rope, drives, just right at people.. The Rockies fans have to be so frustrated.
DeRo is looking absolutely horrible at the plate..I can go ahead and say that
Pie is looking better than DeRo. Why in the world does he try to pull every god darn pitch? Also can some one tell him to stop swinging for the fences every darn time
Looks like another 3 run offensive performance. The only silver lining is that I hope Pinella goes off on this team. 19 runs in one game – who cares. You then score 3 runs or less in 4 or next five games. I mean a lineup that has Fontenot, Pie, Pitcher and Soriano batting consecutively is in my opinion a terrible, terrible lineup. Not to mention Fontenot has been utterly abysmal in the field this year at 2B – at least Pie makes a nice catch every now and then.
That said, the Cubs have ripped a few balls tonight that have been caught and the first inning for the Reds was obviously a real joke. That’s how it goes during bad streaks. I think the problem now with getting Brian Roberts is we can’t afford to give up Sean Marshall anymore, sad to say.
at some point has to go the other way. It’s obvious the book on him is he tries to pull everything. He always swings and misses on that slider on the outside corner.
Good Lord, Wood was healthy for 2000 (his first year after TJ surgery), 2001, 2002, 2003, and then after Dusty’s first year in ‘03 he started getting habitually hurt.
With Thom Brennaman defending Dusty’s use of Wood when “he was pitching 120-130 pitches per game at 20 years old”.... Stuff it, Thom. You and Daddy can have your Cub-hating party later.
These three are similar players in many ways. I think Lou needs to start Cedeno at SS, and pick one of these guys to be the regular 2nd baseman and stick with that lineup.
...it is just difficult to watch us lose so bad (or close) when we were doing everything right. I don’t think “jump the shark” is the right term, maybe “frustration”?
but cordero made a poor tag…..it was really close with the foot coming in, but the ump had terrible position (behind the catcher) so he couldn’t even see the foot
GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER
losing 8 out of the last 11 with the most recent lost to the Reds who have lost their last 5.
Never get a break, never get clutch, we should be happy we had a good start or we would jsut be the same old cubs finding any way to lose and just being a pathetic dissapointment.
getting our hopes up alot at the end of these games, heartbreak but isn’t anything new to a true cubs fan lets get them tomorrow. lets start a winning streak.
So you would commit Mike Fontenot to eternal damnation (and dirty hair) because he made a mistake in a baseball game?
How about a little perspective, my friend? There are children starving in THIS COUNTRY who would happily let Mike Fontenot run into as many tags at home plate as he wanted, if they could only have a little food.
i think we should all be understanding of the frustration instead of calling each other “stupid” i mean we are talking about the CUBS!!! they DEFINE highs and lows. I prefer to be positive and forward-thinking, but i get it when somebody needs to vent. i mean i have vented on this blog before, harboring no ill will and still loving my team, and i got chewed out!
look, right now i hate fontenot. in fact, i just don’t like him in general no matter what he does b/c he looks like mickey morandini – my personal least favorite cub. but anyways, let people be upset, say something like “damn i get it you’re sad/mad/whatever, but dont worry we’ll get it going and then we can all talk about how awesome the cubs are!”
(this post is not directed at anybody…i just want everyone, pissed or composed, to understand where we’re all coming from we’re CUB FANS!
...but can you also explain the need for people to post hurtful, hateful, invective comments?
Here’s my point – take tonight’s game, top of 9th, bases loaded and Fontenot tries to score on the passed ball but is called out. Now if you’re at the game, watching it on TV, or even listening on the radio, I don’t think anyone here would begrudge a rather audible “fck” or “sht” or “gddmnt” or even all three. That’s an instant reaction for most folks and under the circumstances, completely understandable.
But take the same situation, and now you’re sitting at the keyboard (not you specifically, but the generic you). I don’t care how fast you can type, it still takes some time for you to type those same curse words or other hateful comments that we’ve seen here. Even if you’re frothing at the mouth, what good does typing those words do for you? Do you really feel better by typing into a little comment box instead of letting loose a bunch of expletives into the air or punching a pillow or throwing something at the TV? I don’t think so.
So the only alternative I can see is that for some reason, you want everyone here to know how pissed you are. Somehow it’s important to you that others see and feel your hate for a player, coach, broadcaster, etc. I just don’t know why. And I’m not talking about the myriad of doom and gloom comments we get, or the eye-rolling, or the Cedeno/Onedec tags, and even the occasional “poop!”. I’m talking about the comments that are clearly over the line. Can anyone explain why you (again, the generic “you”) post those diatribes? I’m sorry but I’m just not buying the “heat of the moment” argument. There’s just too much involved with typing and posting to NOT make this a instant reaction type of thing.
I always have and will always be a cubs fan, im sorry some fans dont enjoy watching mediocrity for years and saying “lets get them tommorow” or “next year” some people wanna see a WS in their lifetime. Find a team where the fans are always happy, please try and find them.
is saying i cant use the words “some people” because im not pointing my finger at you. IM saying there is other people who feel as i do, which there is. I see you agree with me by saying ” Never did I say whose opinion was the most popular” therefore I hope you realize it made 0 sense for you to try and say I cant use the words “some people” cause in fact its true. Some people feel the same way i do.
There is not perfect team so there are no fans who are happy all the time. I want the Cubs to win as much as anyone on here but the constant whining you do won’t change things.
and about a billion during a win. So now you can call me a fair-weather fan or a troll or whatever you non-stop positive people. This is a Blogging website to discuss the cubs and not a website dedicated to giving happy go lucky phrases after every loss, “well get them tommorow” or “maybe next year”. Some people wanna discuss what the problems are and why we are losing 8 out of the last 11.
I dont thin the season is over, I dont think we arent even going to make the playoffs. Welcome to the real world where people can be upset while also making rational statements.
You have a TON of negative posts, on this thread and others.
I think I can take negative posts that are coupled with rational solutions/optimism for the future.
What’s wearing me out, personally, is your unsubstantiated, pointless meanderings about how this or that sucks. I see it too. Now, what can we do to fix it?
Not counting trades this team need to find some fire, because as soon as we are losing you all as much as me can feel the Cubs just going out and doing the motions. Smart at bats and clutch hitting hasnt been there for over 10 games.
The same good saying "we will get them tommorow" does
NONE.
none of us can change anything but we can talk about it.
I was blind and thought oh who cares if we are 6-0 against the pirates we are a good team. Now i realize its not true and we can only feed off the bad teams and barely split games against the good teams and its emberassing.
Im sorry im negative, i swear some people just want happy talk all the time…MArquis Cy Young and Soriano MVP.
Cause i will agree i am truly dumb and think the cubs will win every game.
Some people vent in the forums by saying this or that person is bad which is true, others of you scan the comments for anything negative so you can jump down their throat and i really think its your way of venting which is fine, we all hate losing.
when they are winning and during a streak like this it seems like, yes:
1) Every ball ripped is right at an outfielder 2) The umps blow every close call 3) Guys that never get hits in clutch situations – Pie, Fontenot – finally get one and it ends up not mattering 4) Middle relievers do their job but we can’t come back and make it count 5) Woody pitches scoreless when it isn’t a save chance 6) every error opens floodgate to runs
showcases the teams shortcomings. Starting pitching. Too many utility guys who are starting. Poor middle relief. And a very streaky superstar.
This game mirrors the other losses of the last ten days: lots opportunities, that they can’t cash in on. The “calls” only go so far. The players have to step up. And, whoever keeps saying, “We’ll get ‘em tomorrow” You said that yesterday, too. Enough.
This team is better than the team that won the divisional championship last year. They’re slumping, and it sucks, and some changes need to be made. We can start with the fan-base.
Without or Without ARAM, the cubs can’t seem to get out of their own way. Good teams don’t make those mistakes.
This is the same team as last year. They have yet to show me they are any different. The Cubs may win the division, but they don’t stand a chance against the Dbacks. It will be another 3 an out…which is just not acceptable…
If we want to go to a world series it will have to be through Arizona, the rest of the national league is weak, I figure hopefully we will be the final two teams but we are so overmatched against them its not even funny.
Not in a million years will the cubs ever find a way to run away with a division, they will find ways to screw it up and keep it close, so I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you
To tell you the truth, I wish we were built like you guys were.
It gives the guys a sense of unity. They come up together and all.. And we have to overspend on crappy pitchers, ala Jason Marquis while the brew crew bring up young phenom after young phenom.
Wait til Laporta comes up. That line-up will be scary good.
my bro-in law played w/him at UF, he is an absolute BEAST and he signed a bat for my little cousin who visited from venezuela! i think you’ll like that guy
there has been some hate among cubs fans tonight – to the brewer guy, you are awesome! may the best team win – i posted this way up there for some perspective…
i think we should all be understanding of the frustration instead of calling each other "stupid" i mean we are talking about the CUBS!!! they DEFINE highs and lows. Sometimes, especially after the last few days, it feels good to vent to people who understand what you’re feeling. If people want to be cheerleaders, that’s fine. But it’s also okay to get mad about the kind of bad baseball we’ve been seeing lately. None of it, however, needs to get personal-what’s the point?
ok, then I'll repeat my reply I posted to this the first time in hopes I'll get some insight from others
ok, I’m kinda with you so far… ...but can you also explain the need for people to post hurtful, hateful, invective comments?

is it me, or would any other NL team facing us in that situation (bases loaded, 1 out) have scored the three runs to get the win? It just wears me out.
Whoever mentioned a few posts ago about Wood pitching great in non-save situations was bang on. Can’t handle the pressure.
had our share of come-from behind wins. Remember the Cincy game last september?
The hitting has been on, or the pitching has been on. We need to figure out how to put them both together consistently. This game was definitely a disspointment. They can - and will - do better.
Cubs pound out 9 or 10 runs tomorrow for the easy win, then get about 3 hits on Wednesday against Voquez. Hope I’m wrong, but that would be the typical “Cubbie swagger” we’ve been seeing lately.
“Look, but we’re not the Yankees or the Red Sox. We can’t buy our way to a top 5 or 10 player at every position.” And I am personally glad we don’t, because you cannot buy a championship.
“And, we just don’t have the strength in our farm system right now in those positions.” WHY? I agree, but why is our farm system so weak? Cubs farms systems have been “weak” for decades. WHY?
I remember Burt Hooton being home grown and we were expecting big things from him, but he turned out to be a bust for the Cubs. Then we trade him to the Dodgers and he becomes a solid starting pitcher for the next 10 plus years?? What is up with this team?
Pressure to win from the fans, media, etc causes the organization to not properly develop prospects or pick the wrong prospect. Then, they give up on them and trade them away. Or they trade three good ones away for a CF from the Marlins organizations who swings a spaghetti noodle for a bat….
It’s constantly being reminded about how long it’s been since they won that weighs on this whole organization, fan base, etc. I absolutely believe if the Cubs could somehow win ONE world championship, the monkey would be off their backs and more championships would follow. The hard part is, of course, getting that one.
But I don’t buy for a minute that this team can’t spend like the Yankees or the Red Sox. They are in a huge Media Market, the sell Merchandise out the Ying Yang, the sell out the stadium, they sell a huge amount of tickets on the road, etc, etc. They have the money…trust me…they just need to spend wisely. No more deals to sub par pitcher Marquis when a guy like Marshall is basically the same pitcher and is cheaper.
Weak Farm System is because the approach in the draft is usually to draft high school players instead of players from college (exceptions of Prior and J.S.). Those players are such a crap shoot cause have the teams those kids play against are a bunch of hayseeds who are throwing straight fastballs. The talent level at the college level is much better and more appropriate for grading players…
If someone posted a thought saying “My kitten is the cutest kitten in the world,” your reply just might be “That’s because the other kittens are currently losing, because they don’t work counts and they get paid too much.”
You are constantly looking for opportunities to inject pessimism.
Im negative when im right to be, losing 8 out fo the last 11.
Im positive when we are doing good, thats how it works. I guess some cubs fans handle all these years saying oh “we will get them tommorow” and “Next year!” but some of us like to talk about us losing when we are losing.
Im extremely optomistic when there is something to be optomistic about.
You don’t live in that area like myself. It feels like running into your hot ex-girlfriend with her new boyfriend everyday while you are picking you nose
Can’t wait to see it. I hear you def have to stay to the end and the credits, because of a Samuel L. Jackson scene or something. Not sure what’s up with that..
just like last year….16/9 in the LOB category…not bad when you score 12-13 runs…but pathetic when you only score 3. 86 wins won’t bee enough this year….
The absence of Aramis Ramírez is notable. Because he’s out, Lee and Fukudome have no real protection and De Rosa cannot get the rest he evidently needs. If we add to that the obvious disruption to the offense that Alfonso Soriano has caused batting leadoff, the result is a lower run production and therefore, more losses.
Right now the team is going through one of those down cycles all teams go through in a long season. It’s imperative that it doesn’t last long because 86 wins won’t cut it this year in the division.
Brennaman was irresponsible by bringing up how no one has questioned whether Geovanny Soto is juiced. His broadcasting partner had to gently turn the conversation around, stating there is no reason to believe Soto is juiced. He is not the first player to improve his HR production..
Brennaman’s comment was uncalled for and unprofessional. Unless there was something to point to what Brennaman said there is no need to question Soto’s offensive production. Since there isn’t, all I can say is that Thom Brennaman was way out of bounds.
I never liked him when he was with WGN, I hate having to listen to him during college and NFL games, and always thought of him as an assclown. It didn’t surprise me that he brought up the notion that Soto was juicing. I’m glad the only time I ever have to listen to this guy is when I can’t watch the Cubs play the Reds on WGN.
At least Chris Welsh has some class and turned the conversation away from the whole steroids deal.
Trying to figure out the dramatic improvement in Soto’s overall HR and batting average numbers. I heard the first part of the rant, but missed the second half, so I may have missed any discussion of steroids. That said, I think a lot of people in baseball do that thru the minors, it’s what they are there for, to improve hitting. Power and patience usually develops in young, talented hitters, and judging by last night, I would say Soto fits in that category.
Stealing 3rd on the pitch and just kept coming. That’s what a smart ball team does, rather run into outsand boot balls all over the field. Just seems like we don’t have it, poor execution and zero clutch hitting and pitching. How many games can we walk runs in and leave the base loaded???
well, he's still pitching...
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
Four unearned runs.
Thus, I’d say he’s pitching pretty well.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
Pat on the Radio is saying all 5 unearned
Wasn’t one of them a HR???
GoCubbies34 - May 5, 2008
Doesn't matter.
If there’s an error during an inning, and then the 2nd out is registered, it’s assumed the inning is over. You could score ten runs after that and they’d all be unearned.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
Boxscore says 1 earned run out of 5
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
Gotcha...
Maybe I misheard him, i’m listening on the internet and its going in and out. How did Pie’s catch look?
GoCubbies34 - May 5, 2008
No, he definitely just said again all 5 unearned
GoCubbies34 - May 5, 2008
Then he's wrong, because the boxscore shows 1 earned run.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
I've seen it both ways
mlb.com saying one earned run, stats.com which i have open for a fantasy league, is saying all 5 runs unearned.
circuitclout - May 5, 2008
I guess you have to assume the first error would have been a DP
For all 5 unearned
GoCubbies34 - May 5, 2008
you know, I think I'm starting to sour on the whole earned vs unearned distinction
it’s not often I agree with something Brenly says but he said “hey, they all count”. Sure if there’s no error, you get out of the inning that much faster, but if the pitcher still gives up tons of hits after that error, I’d say he’s not a very good pitcher.

Point taken, but...
... it’s a way of measuring how many runs are due strictly to the pitching. If the inning should have been over after an error, then how can you say “he gives up tons of hits so he’s not a very good pitcher”?
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
'cause he isn't bearing down, he lets it get into his head, he must be throwing meatballs up there, etc.
I agree of the need to distinguish from a statistical perspective, but a good pitcher should be able to get the next guy out (or pretty soon thereafter), regardless of what happened on the previous play.
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
You're right.
But in reality, often it doesn’t work that way.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
So where is everyone?
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
If no one's posted a link in the original thread,
then they won’t come until someone does.
bluebythebook - May 5, 2008
Go back and tell 'em!
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
I would if the thread wasn't loading as slow as molasses.
bluebythebook - May 5, 2008
Who cares? This is like going from the Mass Turnpike to the Autobahn!

Feel bad for Demp
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
Griffey was about 2-3 feet from the wall.
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
thanks...
down in SC and dont get WCIU
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
Also why is onedeC not playing????
WTF does he have to do?
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
That's a really good question.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
Fonty is hot too...
Should be D-Ro taking a seat, IMO. Maybe Cedeno could get 3 games in a row relieving 3B-SS-2B?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
hes not as hot as Ronny
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
True.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Al what do you think the reason is?
have you ever seen a playe playing this well both offensively and defensively and not getting PT
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
Sure.
But it’s still mystifying.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
Who would come to your mind?
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
Can't think of anyone off the top of my head.
But it seems to me I remember this happening at some time, not necessarily just to the Cubs.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
Also do you think he should start over Theriot?
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
Right now, yes.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
I agree 100%
i hope De-Ro gets back on track but Ronny needs to play NOT in CF
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
Demp doesnt deserve a loss if we dont rally
are people still in the old thread???
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
I guess they are.
It’ll take too long for me to go over there and retrieve ‘em. They’ll have to find this on their own. That’s why I post the overflow thread time in the main thread.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
Al..
I made a bet.. if the Cubs come back and win you have to try and post a recap tonight! sound like a bet?
Unique - May 5, 2008
Then I have nothing to look forward to in the morning when I'm supposed to be working!
GoCubbies34 - May 5, 2008
Wait.
YOU made a bet and I have to pay off? What’s in it for me?
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
A cubs win?
GoCubbies34 - May 5, 2008
Hey, that's a pretty good thing to have.
I’ll see how long this game goes. I do have to sleep sometime, you know.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
There'll be sleep enough
in the grave. a;ldsfkhjadspoivnadsovdms

Do you read FJM?
vtcub - May 5, 2008
What's FJM?
(obviously not)

Fire Joe Morgan. Good site.
vtcub - May 5, 2008
Great site.

uhh...
a cubs win? lol. How about if we lose - i’ll buy a bleed cubbie blue shirt? I dunno - is that too cheesy?
Unique - May 5, 2008
Lemme see how long this goes.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
Maybe with Cueto out of the game.....
the Cubs can get into the Reds bullpen, which has not been great.
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
he's out.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
My point...
exactly.
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008

This was posted in the original game thread just now:
Reds VS. Cubs
If we lose this series, someone must be brought to the throne! This isn`t acceptable. I have to believe the bench coach , Alan Trammel, has a better clue!

So it's LOU'S fault?
Now I’ve heard everything.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
Hahaha...
didn’t mean to be trollish, but thought it too crazy for me to be the only viewer.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
If the Cubs lose the next 3 of 5, it will soon be your fault.
How about you pick it up, eh? Jeeze

Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008

In Recent BCB news
Bleedcubbieblue.com was voted best Cubs blog among 45 year-old sales reps living in the 17520 zip code! (near Lancaster, PA). Congrats, Al!
kentmeister - May 5, 2008
Wow!
Do we get a medal?
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
We've arranged
for a small engraving on the bottom of the World Series trophy. Hope that suffices :-)
kentmeister - May 5, 2008
is 2-4 too much
to ask for?
bheidge - May 5, 2008
yes, yes it is
bheidge - May 5, 2008
If anyone needs to go its Rothschild
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
the truth.
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
What ever happened to the players being accountable?
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Would actually be interested in the argument for Rothschild not to get fired.
What exactly has this guy brought to the club? Just asking—not saying he should get fired.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
can't agree more
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
Hmmmmm...
Personally, holding the players responsible would be a novel concept for me….
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
I kinda agree with this
it’s the pitching coach’s job to manage the psyches of the pitchers. and so far we’ve seen usually good pitchers, pretty accurate (hill, marquis) losing their control.
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
And the pitchers responsibility is.....
to pitch.
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
you wanna blame Rothschild
for Hill’s disintegration?
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
My point exactly....
The pitchers are the ones throwing the ball….
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
where's everyone?
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
its past your bedtime
bheidge - May 5, 2008
considering i'm probably older than you, that's pretty amusing
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
It's definitely past MY bedtime.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
I dunno.
But I think I have to try to change the Cubs’ luck by sitting on the couch, away from the computer for a while.
Al Yellon - May 5, 2008
Brilliant.
Maybe I was wrong – this team just seems to be in a funk right now.
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
Lee, Fukudome, and Soto are up 1-2-3 in the 8th
It’s probably the best shot at tieing the game up.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
For those of you watching on FSN Ohio...
that Jeep “Rock Me Slowly” commercial is just bizarre.
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
I hate all things FSN Ohio.
It’s really been annoying.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Fukudome hasn't gotten a hit in awhile it seems, he sure is due.
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
looks like we have been in a free fall from that WAS series
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
why is "everyone" so concerned about where "everyone" is?
is someone thinking a Shakespeare play will be written tonight if we get a thousand BCBers posting?
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
it was the best of times
it was the worst of time…
Bottom of the 8th, two outs, and the Great Dempster comes to the plate…
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
it was a dark and stormy night...
...suddenly a shot rang out!
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
Yeah, good. But it's not Shakespeare.
It’s “A Tale of Two Cities” by Dickens.
zevkalman - May 5, 2008
I know that!
don’t make me get out the donkey ears!
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Bottom of the 8th, and Dempster's still batting?
Sounds like this scenario would only happen in the best of times.
jbau - May 5, 2008
I KNOW
I never watch this channel but this time I am in Bloomington, IN and no CSN and WGN so I got the reds channel!
SouthsideCUBSfan - May 5, 2008
108 year-old Paul Bako's up
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
how is he
batting .308
bheidge - May 5, 2008
.312
bheidge - May 5, 2008
No idea,
just a double as well. He’s hitting good so far this year.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
Only looks like
he’s 106 after this hit….
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
Sigh..
He didn’t do that with the Cubs…
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Karma.
Ryan Dempster didn’t do this with the Reds.
Well, not this as in “tonight, this”. “This season,” this.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Paul Bako just hit a double.
I feel like I’m watching a Louisville Bats game.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I want a pink cap!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Listen i wasnt saying Larry needs to go
but the record isnt very good… Not at all. He started with Baylor, then went to Baker and Kimm in the middle. I dont blame him. but there is a reason that we have lost a lot of good prospects/pitchers to injury… Not all him but yea
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
Not all him?
HE doesn’t decide who pitches. You want the guy with the toothpick.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
garbage
SouthsideCUBSfan - May 5, 2008
Here comes Lou....
Lee is p.o.ed
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008

South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
Al,
I’m glad your here because I have a question for you:
Do you honsetly believe that this Cub team, as is, has enough to get to the playoffs and win a pennant?
If so why?
Mr W - May 5, 2008
You do realize it's May 5th!
162 game season….
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
I know my name is not AL but i say no
We are missing a power LH bat and a starter.. HOwry will get it together
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
We just need to be patient....
It’s a long season…
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
yes
because this year’s team is better than last year’s, and we took the division.
(not Al, but still)
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Playoffs? Yes. Pennant? Maybe. Why? Cubs will pound the ball enough to overcome pitching weaknesses.
Plus, most of the other teams basically suck. Maybe not now, but they will.
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
BOOO!
Freel was out!!!!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
on or off the bag?
whats the verdict?
joeschmitt - May 5, 2008
Looked like he got pulled off, but then got back to the bag before the runner crossed.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
lee got cheated.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Uuf, close call
he was looking like he was out.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
Re: brenneman is garbage
So the Cubs magic number has been 3 (as in it seems they can’t score more than 3 runs) and their last 7 losses have been by 3 runs or less…so not quite sure that watching the rest of this game is a great use of time. We can bemoan the pitching and defense all we want, but the offense has been putrid during this stretch.
By the way, on the Reds broadcast even though the replay clearly showed Lee’s foot stayed on the bag Brenneman refuses to acknowledge it was a bad call.
BeltwayCubsFan - May 5, 2008
he was definitely out
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
He's ridiculous.
Ugh, I’m going to give myself a stroke.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Breathe.....
In and out…
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
a bad break for the cubs?
Nooooo. that hasnt happened at all lately
bheidge - May 5, 2008
Looked to me like Lou's foot was on the bag when he caught it.
n/t
zevkalman - May 5, 2008
I meant Lee's foot. Lou coming out mixed me up. :-)
zevkalman - May 5, 2008
ha ha
Lou’s foot?
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
it was close, but regardless, ump was out of position
lee was between him and the bag, therefore he couldn’t see Lee’s foot.
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
why the heck is brenneman making stupid jokes on Lou
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
What did he say?
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
read below..
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
Announcers are so witty
if only their delivery to say it didn’t take 2 minutes.
“Now Lou Piniella… is going… to the mound…! You have to wonder… if he… will remember (breathe for air) what he came….
....
out for!!”
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
brenneman has been absolutely classless..he is making harrelson look like Vin Scully
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
wow - never thought I'd see Harrelson and Scully in the same sentence...
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
Hmmmmm.....
Guess his daddy is rubbing off on him.
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
The Reds have 2 mascots...
One for each Reds fan in the park….
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
HI-YO!
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Here comes
Chad Fox.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Chad Fox? Really? Chad F'in Fox?
Yeah, this is a good idea.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
how many outs?
lemon20pie - May 5, 2008
Don't you have Gameday?
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
MY computer and Gameday don't like eachother very well
lemon20pie - May 5, 2008
Fair enough,
2 outs, full count, man on 3rd and 2nd(just stolen).
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
Gameday
told me that it was stolen on a foul ball… right….
jbau - May 5, 2008
you gotta wonder wtf is going on
pitching marmol with a 6 run lead is looking worse and worse
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
that was two days ago. what does it matter now?
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
Well, my face is red.
Fox gets out of the jam, Lee-Fukudome-Soto up at the top of the 8th.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
next time thats a double
SouthsideCUBSfan - May 5, 2008
Think positive!
Soft line drive to right. Fukodome catches it easilly…..
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Strike out is ever better!
The Fox is back!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008

SouthsideCUBSfan - May 5, 2008
Lou
He`ll pitch Chad Fox but Ronny sits! WTF!!!
muffman - May 5, 2008
is Lou trying to lose this game?
MJMars - May 5, 2008
do you really expect an answer to such a question?
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Socrates, is that you?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
what do you think?
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Does it matter what I think?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Chad Fox
GOOD JOB!!!
muffman - May 5, 2008

drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008

ok now lets make something happen
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
Nice work Chad Fox
Maybe you can stay healthy this time around..
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
FOXY!!!!
Y’all realize he’s had mmm…2 or 3 appearances, right?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
IF the cubs get out of this unscathed...
....they will win.
lemon20pie - May 5, 2008
They just did
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
They will win.
Who’s due up if you wouldn’t mind?
lemon20pie - May 5, 2008
The big guns
Lee Dome Soto
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
Lee-Fukudome-Soto
mmmm
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Alright
Here comes the rally!!
lemon20pie - May 5, 2008
alas...
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Did that radar gun really register 92 MPH?
Hmmm….good gosh, Fox.
Let’s clog some bases!
zevkalman - May 5, 2008
delayed a bit, huh?
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
Seriously to come baack from hunting and see Chad Fox up and Rich Hill in the minors
huge shock
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
Bet you thought someone was playing a joke on you.....
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
hell yea....
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
It absolutely pains me to no end that the Reds are
considered one of the home teams in my market even though I’m two states away. Listening to these two jackasses has really put me in a beligerent mood tonight. I wish I had their email so I could blast away on these two clowns. Not that they’d care, but it would make me feel better. The Cubs recent play is not helping my mood either.
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Anyone else as encouraged as me that Gallagher was hitting 95MPH???
fischisgod - May 5, 2008
He sure looks different...
I read he went on the Soto/Dempster/Wood diet….
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
The souls of Cardinals fans?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Stormy is up!
Let’s get some runs!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
these two reds announcers have been the worst I ever heard..and I usually give
the annoucers a loose rope
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
quick - someone give them a tree too! ;-)
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
lmao witty!
GoCubbies34 - May 5, 2008
I'd give them a...
never mind.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008

david weathers is in. this is perfect.
bgsiggy - May 5, 2008

drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008

cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
I'd like to give them a well-knotted rope
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Hey Chicago What do you say?
SouthsideCUBSfan - May 5, 2008
The Cubs are gonna win today....
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
I'm amazed how indignant they are towards the Cubs
Shows a total lack of class
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Sore losers...
Been a LONG time since the Reds even had a winning record…
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008

bheidge - May 5, 2008
What's up with Brennaman,
He was our announcer a few years back. Bitter about being let go or what?
Mr W - May 5, 2008
That was Marty
Thom’s Son… I think those names are right.
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
No.
THOM Brennaman was our announcer. This is Marty, his dad.
northsider - May 5, 2008
Yeah... that's right.
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
Actually, Thom's in the TV booth tonight.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Ahhhh.
That’s what I get for joining late!
northsider - May 5, 2008
Bitter man...
after watching how bad the Reds have been for the last decade….
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
You only say that because you're a dumb Cubs fan
We’re all dumb, and should be thankful to Brennaman to let us know that we are dumb, and very obnoxious.
(even more obnoxious than Philly fans who put batteries in snowballs and chuck them to Eagle players, I guess.)
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
i agree
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008

Bricks and Ivy - May 5, 2008
Still shouldn't
take Dome’s name in vain.
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
With some of the stuff on these threads...
I actually took you seriously at first.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
he's struggled for a few days.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
I don't know, but he and his partner Jock Sniff seem to feed off each
other’s negativity towards the Cubs
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
i have him on mute
sitting on the back porch in Bloomington, IN with the TV on the deck… a bunch of friends, beer…. LETS WIN CUBS!!!!!! damn
SouthsideCUBSfan - May 5, 2008
We still have 4 outs!!!
Hope is still alive!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Seems like if Dome gets one hit, he gets 3 more
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Can't watch the game but...
is it encouraging that Demp didn’t fall apart after that start? Or was is just the Reds being, well, themselves?
kentmeister - May 5, 2008
Jock Sniff and Brenny are mad at the Cubs for giving them Dusty
and Corey P. and all the other losers.
zevkalman - May 5, 2008
ZING!
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
Tying run comes to the plate!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
damn soto

bheidge - May 5, 2008
if only our
OBP machine could get on in front of him
bheidge - May 5, 2008
There we go, Soto!
Let’s see if D-Ro can get out of his slump.
I’m positive… this is David Weathers, after all.
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
I think Soto should be our permanent 6th hole hitter, not DeRo
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
I agree.
jasoniniowa - May 5, 2008
Soto
bypassing Fukodome for ROY with every at bat
SETX Cub - May 5, 2008
SOTO
My god he’s good.
Thom’s take: This is his first good year ever.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I'm glad I'm stuck listening on gameday audio
Bricks and Ivy - May 5, 2008
Earlier, after Thom said that,
the color guy brought up how after the steriods era started, when a player breaks out like that, that’s the first thing you think of. He quickly said “with all the testing now, you know that Soto’s not juiced”
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
He's conveniently forgetting...
the testing inthe miners has been much more stringent for years….
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Did you hear what Len said?
The Reds paid all that money for a closer and they have only had 4 save opportunities this year….
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
i miss him
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
miss who?
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
coco
gagnes shit.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Soto
is amazing.
He’s hitting like a 3rd place hitter.
Unique - May 5, 2008
DeRo
needs to find it again….right NOW!
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
I love DeRo
But I prolly woulda pinch hit here.
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
Have faith...
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Maybe not...
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
derosa needs to be reminded that he kills the reds
bheidge - May 5, 2008
time for a day off
bheidge - May 5, 2008
Damn.
Chased a terrible pitch there.
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
DeRosa
is slumping bad. Real bad.
Swung at ball 4.
Unique - May 5, 2008
He's gotta get a day or two off
No reason not to play Cedeno with DeRo slumping so badly
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
ditto for Lee
we need aramis backk
bheidge - May 5, 2008
Derosa
has come back to earth (or, rather, his career numbers).
SETX Cub - May 5, 2008
From a 3-1 count,
he gets him out. Great job, Mark
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
no field, no hit
DC Cubbie - May 5, 2008
DeRo needs to be the clean up hitter for the bottom of the lineup
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Can Derosa get a friggin day off?
Of course Lou will ride him out and stick with his vets. 18-14 doesn’t sound so sweet..
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
its over 500. and not horrible
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
At least the Cardinals are losing
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
Are you watching that game?
They are only down a run, and their pitched has been rocked, and I mean rocked, just rope after rope, drives, just right at people.. The Rockies fans have to be so frustrated.
buckmulligan - May 5, 2008
I just looked at the box score
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
Hard for Derosa to get a day off with the injuries we've had.
buckmulligan - May 5, 2008
well DeRosa
certaintly is in a slump. He needs to sit now and prove to us that we shouldn’t have gotten Roberts
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
he'll
definitely prove it to us by sitting
ecbc - May 5, 2008
Cubs look listless, especially pissing away their great start
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
DeRo is looking absolutely horrible at the plate..I can go ahead and say that
Pie is looking better than DeRo. Why in the world does he try to pull every god darn pitch? Also can some one tell him to stop swinging for the fences every darn time
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
He'll get it together...
I agree a day off might help.
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Dero is not hitting very far from his lifetime batting average of .277.
I sometimes think that people expect too much from him.
zevkalman - May 5, 2008
I for one don't think that he should be an everyday player
He will excel as a super sub, an utility player if used as such.
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
I agree.
n/t
zevkalman - May 5, 2008
He does need to go back to basics: up the middle, opposite field, etc.
buckmulligan - May 5, 2008
Frankly we should've gotten Roberts...this team needs a lead off hitter WORSE
than ANY OTHER team in the majors.
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Is that the...
.266/.352/.435 Brian Roberts you speak of?
The price we would have paid for Ryan Theriot numbers was a little steep.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Agreed.
But knowing this team, Soriano would still be leading off.
buckmulligan - May 5, 2008
Wood in the eighth?
really?
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
Woody trying to get his ankle broken there
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Agreed on DeRosa
BeltwayCubsFan - May 5, 2008
very good point about Marshall
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Man, are you negative...
you must be listening to Marty Brennamen
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008

Seems like more.
Mapmaker - May 5, 2008
well only two guys
have really been hitting tonite.
bheidge - May 5, 2008
Wood is literally 1/2 of what he use to be.
Honestly, take a look at him. If he turned sideways, You can’t see him anymore.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
DeRo
at some point has to go the other way. It’s obvious the book on him is he tries to pull everything. He always swings and misses on that slider on the outside corner.
Rick B - May 5, 2008
Now Thom is defending Dusty's abuse of a pitching staff....SHUDDUP!
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Yup
Good Lord, Wood was healthy for 2000 (his first year after TJ surgery), 2001, 2002, 2003, and then after Dusty’s first year in ‘03 he started getting habitually hurt.
peterman - May 5, 2008
And here we go
With Thom Brennaman defending Dusty’s use of Wood when “he was pitching 120-130 pitches per game at 20 years old”....
Stuff it, Thom. You and Daddy can have your Cub-hating party later.
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
Cordero - thy name is Gagne...
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
.haha
biggest let down ever.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
well wood helps me out in fantasy!
hopefully he can get a win!
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
Hey everybody...
Remember that Pie catch in center? That was awesome.
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
Do you remember Beatlemania?
That was awesome.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Do you remember the Model-T?
That was the cat’s pajamas!
zevkalman - May 5, 2008
Remember WWII?
That sucked.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
remember that game when we
scored 19 runs. sweet
bheidge - May 5, 2008
not for me
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
I'd like to see some great catches that occur during WINS
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Well, plays that weren't mad are the reason we're losing right now....
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
made...
excuse my poor typing
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
alrighty.
go-to time.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
DeRosa, Fontenot, and Theriot...
These three are similar players in many ways. I think Lou needs to start Cedeno at SS, and pick one of these guys to be the regular 2nd baseman and stick with that lineup.
Mr W - May 5, 2008
I'm partial to the best defense you can put on the field....
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
and these Reds trolls with their pathetic record have the audacity to come to a cubs blob
and talk crap..
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
*blob=blog...ugh..trolls
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
i havent seen a reds fan on here yet?
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Sneaky Power - 3.14 - pinch

Chanman25 - May 5, 2008

Against the hated Cards…and the lowly Reds?!!!
Dan
dtpollitt - May 5, 2008
Wow dude, you need one of these
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
That looks like a pillow, not an actual pill...
n/t
Dan
dtpollitt - May 5, 2008
You don't want a chill pill pillow?
FIne, nevermind then.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
Okay, I LOLed at that.
Point for you, sir.
Dan
dtpollitt - May 5, 2008
LOL
sue369 - May 5, 2008
LETS GO CUBBIES
CLAP ..CLAP ..CLAP CLAP CLAP
GoCubbies34 - May 5, 2008
Good call on taking Dunn out the game
he makes Jacque Jones’ look like Vladimir Guerrero with the arm he has.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
FONTY
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Base Hit
miamicanes - May 5, 2008

Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
OKKKKKK.....
Felix batting here? Really?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
He's gonna park one.
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
Seriously...
Lou’s been over-managing, now he’s under-managing.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I'll gladly eat crow.
YUM!
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Swallow hard!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
TWH...
never mind.
Gladly.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
short bench tonight....
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
one hit, all we need...
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
Too bad modern medicine can't figure out a way to conjoin Fontenot and Theriot...
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
They did, it's called Ronny Cedeno.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
from your fingers to Lou's ears???
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
hahah
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
can aramis pinch?
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
No, he didn't even take BP.
He was supposed to and didn’t feel good enough to.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Kurt Gibson moment!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Haha, leg does not = wrist unfortunately.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
The Cat comes through!
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Go Felix!
Way to go!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
PIE!

drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
There we go.
Little ninth-inning magic going here….
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
Pie!
miamicanes - May 5, 2008
Why on Earth wouldn't you bunt them over here?
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
good speed
on the basepaths
bheidge - May 5, 2008
WOOHOO
Cubs and Magic down by two…. both in the final inning!!! Lets go Magic Cubbies!!!
GoCubbies34 - May 5, 2008
My prized possession
for a 3-run jack right now!
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
Ward has to start producing like he is able to
miamicanes - May 5, 2008
HOW ARE YOU NOT BUNTING HERE?
a good bunt gets 2 into scoring position with 1 out
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
or a hit gets us the lead
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
Ward was promised 40 Big Macs if he gets a hit
Look at his eyes: he’s DETERMINED.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
My Kingdom
for a 3run jack..
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
my point exactly
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
No bunt?
Dusty rubbing off?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Going for the home run!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
or the walk
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
3-1 on Ward
miamicanes - May 5, 2008
sigh....
Fly out…
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
playing for the win
cant blame lou
bheidge - May 5, 2008
Someone is supposed to eat crow
SETX Cub - May 5, 2008
You mean, 90% of BCB'ers
who jump the shark if the Cubs ever lose, ever?
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
Hey, it was me supposed to eat crow.
And I’m not in the hater group.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Bildo promised
SETX Cub - May 5, 2008
I ate the fake crow!
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I don't think that's the case...
...it is just difficult to watch us lose so bad (or close) when we were doing everything right. I don’t think “jump the shark” is the right term, maybe “frustration”?
Dan
dtpollitt - May 5, 2008
fried or baked?
everyone loves fried crow!
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
I'll pay a quarter
for a walk
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
Darn.
nice try, durrryl.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Wasted At Bat
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Not really.
line drive.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Look at it this way:
would you think D-Ward would get a hit or Soriano or Theriot gets a hit?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
DAMNIT!
miamicanes - May 5, 2008
Damn...
Can you hit a ball any harder than that?
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
it had a chance - after all, it was hit at Corey...
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
Hit it on the screws.
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
He blasted that ball
miamicanes - May 5, 2008
Come on Sori!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
alright Fonzie....lets make something happen!
Walker71421 - May 5, 2008
It sounded good, looked good too.
Caught by CF though, 1 out.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
DW did his job, but the bunt was the right play
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Do you REALLY want to play for extra innings?
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Soriano needs to learn to NOT swing at pitches outside the strike zone!
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
He can redeem his whole
stinkin season with one big one here.
iluvryno - May 5, 2008
What difference does it make...
If we get runners on and we can’t get a hit?
Mr W - May 5, 2008
soriano
will be swinging for the fences. no doubt
bheidge - May 5, 2008
Alfonso
Get outta the dog house!
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
nice catch
Cpat..almost overran it tho..
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
One more slider should do it... sigh
CubsBullsBears - May 5, 2008
cordero
needs a loss
bheidge - May 5, 2008
2-2 on Soriano
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
Nice take Sori
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Hey Fonzie, Mario Mendoza called - he wants his line back
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
GREAT EYE
What is the crowd booing about? Not. even. close.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
full count
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
Wow, Soriano's patience
got it full count.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
Soriano fouls off ball four
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
SOR-I-AN-OH!
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
C'mon Scrappy-Do!
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Bases LOADED
Just get a hit, Ryan. Just get a stinking HIT.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Great AB, Fonz...
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
Sori WALKS!!!!
miamicanes - May 5, 2008
Walked the man that's impossible to walk!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Just get the damn thing airborne Riot
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
HOLY SHIT?! A WALK FOR SORIANO!!

Dan
dtpollitt - May 5, 2008

grifdog - May 5, 2008
CMON RIOT!
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008

buckmulligan - May 5, 2008
Wow, Soriano walked after an 0-2 count?

NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
BASES LOADED

Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
Allright! Come on Riot!!!
Walker71421 - May 5, 2008

ASDHGKULAHGASDG
joeschmitt - May 5, 2008

Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Brilliant f'ing game Midget
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Granted he WAS safe
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Great at bat!
But can this team get a clutch hit?
We shall see.
Mr W - May 5, 2008
Damn...
Font out on wild pitch..
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
OMG
poor santo
joeschmitt - May 5, 2008
Oh man!
He beat that tag… clearly.
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
reply looked out?
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Fucking Fontenot
he was out by a mile.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
He was under the tag.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Well, regardless,
his jump was way off, and Cordero was there way before he was. Whether he was safe or not, he shouldn’t have gambled on a ball like that.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
watch the language please
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
wtf
bheidge - May 5, 2008
HE IS SAFE
WHAT IS HE LOOKING AT???
?
?
HOW DID FONTENOT GET SUCH A BAD JUMP??
?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
He hesitated a bit
CubsBullsBears - May 5, 2008
Bako and Cordero might go blow for blow after the game
miamicanes - May 5, 2008
pick him up riot
buckmulligan - May 5, 2008
Fonte-NO
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
Fontenot has cost us this game
He was out, and he should be sent to the minors. Error after error and then that garbage.
BeltwayCubsFan - May 5, 2008
Over reaction
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
Actually he was safe...Reds broadcast had a conclusive replay
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Replay shows he was safe.
Jayo525 - May 5, 2008
he was safe
we got screwed on at least two calls this game.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Listening to Santo...
...makes me want to cry some times.
Dan
dtpollitt - May 5, 2008
he was safe
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
he had better been out
I cant handle another blown call
bheidge - May 5, 2008
the ball beat him there by a mile
but cordero made a poor tag…..it was really close with the foot coming in, but the ump had terrible position (behind the catcher) so he couldn’t even see the foot
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
Cordero can NOT find the zone.
MMMMM
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
bases loaded
AGAIN.
Let’s go, DLee.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
LEEEEEEEEEEE
LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
joeschmitt - May 5, 2008
Ball 4
Bases juiced for DLee
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
Can I get a quick summary?
How did it come to be 5 runs but 0 earned?
Arbusto - May 5, 2008
Come on D-Lee!!!!
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
God come on....lets cash in for once!
Walker71421 - May 5, 2008
Now it's D-Lee time...
Big hit D-Lee, come on!
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
DLee never takes that pitch when he's on
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
that was the pitch
SETX Cub - May 5, 2008
The Reds radio team just said Font was safe
miamicanes - May 5, 2008
That's two against us.
that were very close.
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
He was out
2 hits and 2 bb in the inning. no runs. Familiar story these days. Lee looks like he did at beginning of last year, guessing wrong on lots of pitches
BeltwayCubsFan - May 5, 2008
I don't know who's more overdue...
...Soriano and his utter sucking…or Lee and his mini-slump here.
Dan
dtpollitt - May 5, 2008
Can the Cubs get a clutch hit?
Can Lee do it? Who will step up???
Mr W - May 5, 2008
Lee is off.
How bout breaking out of it here.
buckmulligan - May 5, 2008
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Well -
That stunk. No clutch hitting. What is it with these 5-3 losses? That’s three in four games.
South Carolina Cub - May 5, 2008
Lee chokes in the clutch
Cubs lose…..again
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
Poop
Lee bounces out…5-3 Reds game over…
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
thank you WCIU for sparing me......fack
Walker71421 - May 5, 2008
Yikes.
This sucks.
buckmulligan - May 5, 2008
This team is playing shit baseball and needs to start
standing up and being accountable
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Fucking
loser baseball. Unreal. Absolutely gutless. Sorry about the language, Al. Can’t help it. I wanna kill Fontenot.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 5, 2008
please watch your language
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
sure you can. go ahead and type your little diatribe if it makes you feel better.
then just hit the ‘cancel’ button.
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
hahaha
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
sigh....
It’s over. I hate losing to the Reds….
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
That last play looked real close
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
yeah, well, not close enough
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!
different storyline, same ending every game. Fontenot is a joke.
BeltwayCubsFan - May 5, 2008
i am sensing another huge victory tomorrow
that guarantees the pythagorean series win, followed by another close one wednesday.
i hate pythagorean records
joeschmitt - May 5, 2008
Guess not...
Another game in which the Cubs have no hitting with RISP.
Mr W - May 5, 2008
send fontenot down
DC Cubbie - May 5, 2008
Here. We. Go.
Reddevil - May 5, 2008
You got a beagle?
I own a 2.5 year old male. Love ‘em, gonna get another hound next year.
Dan
dtpollitt - May 5, 2008
Really...
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
damnit...can they just catch one damn break?
bases loaded fontenot decided to run on a stupid call. That completely killed all of the momentum
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
GAME OVER
GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER GAME OVER
joeschmitt - May 5, 2008
we get it buddy. you're not funny, and you keep trying to prove your dumbass point. stfu.
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
LOL
OMGWTFBBQ!!!!!
!!oneone
joeschmitt - May 5, 2008
Actually that
he is funny. Here’s a quarter, go buy a sense of humor.
sue369 - May 5, 2008
Well, maybe with your sense of humor he is.. We're in the 21st century.
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
hey i'm supposed to say stuff like that
“there’s a new rage on the internets called blogs, where people post stuff. fascinating.”
joeschmitt - May 5, 2008
play was close, but I think he was out by a step
and that ump wasn’t doing us any favors all game
BeltwayCubsFan - May 5, 2008
Did you even see the replay?
He was clearly under the tag.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
He was out
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
he was safe.
get a better TV.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
You must be an ump
Jayo525 - May 5, 2008
he was safe..
but no need to take that safe with Cordero missing the plate so consistently and the heart of the lineup up..just a stupid play by fontenot
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
take that *risk
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
This team is annoying
and back to their usual frustrating level.
lemon20pie - May 5, 2008
this is stressfull..
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
Fonty cost us 3 runs tonight, and we lost by 2
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
Continue to find ways to lose
losing 8 out of the last 11 with the most recent lost to the Reds who have lost their last 5.
Never get a break, never get clutch, we should be happy we had a good start or we would jsut be the same old cubs finding any way to lose and just being a pathetic dissapointment.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
nice clutch AB lee
way to watch the fastball right down the middle
DC Cubbie - May 5, 2008
It's not a video game.
Cordero threw what, 7 straight curveballs?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Bad game all around by the players....
Defense and bad base running lost the game….
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
fontenot made a mistake.
The season is young.
Get off his back
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Two, actually
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
regardless.
he’s hitting somewhere aroung .290.
and not a HORRILBE player.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Oh, I don't think you send him down anything, but he did cost us the game tonight
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
a big mistake
you don’t go there unless your sure you will make it
DC Cubbie - May 5, 2008
Does everyone realize this is only one game?
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
yeah, just like seven of the last ten have only been one game
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
thank you
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Breathe in .....breathe out.....
cowsarecool220 - May 5, 2008
machinehead?
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
the last ten actually
they have looked like shit
DC Cubbie - May 5, 2008
Well this team has been slumping lately
they have won i think 2 out their last 10. Teams do that during the season, and its EXTREMELY frustrating
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
well a nice "shit" phrase works well
and with that, i’m out until next time..
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
SHIT indeed
i’m out too. see y’all tomorrow
RightFieldSucks - May 5, 2008
You know what?
Maybe the guys that were calling the game over after the Reds jumped ahead after the 4th inning were right after all.
Maybe the Cubs simply don’t have what it takes to come back after being behind.
Mr W - May 5, 2008
Until you look at...the month of April.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
go way, Blue Mike.
sock puppets suck too.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
well they did that ALOT
especially in the first two weeks of april
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
yeah they defn had no chance to win after the 4th
what with the bases loaded 1 out in the 9th, tying run on 2nd.
joeschmitt - May 5, 2008
did they score?
DC Cubbie - May 5, 2008
Exactly,
what I was going to say, what was the final score again??
Mr W - May 5, 2008
calling scoreboard on your team/fellow fans
i guess it shouldnt surprise me
joeschmitt - May 5, 2008
Cubs are still short a real lead-off hitter and a real #2
VolPowers - May 5, 2008
And someone who can hit with RISP
n/t
Rudey - May 5, 2008
they have been
getting our hopes up alot at the end of these games, heartbreak but isn’t anything new to a true cubs fan lets get them tomorrow. lets start a winning streak.
deployedcubfan - May 5, 2008
agree
sue369 - May 5, 2008
Lou should have gotten thrown out after one of the many horrible calls in that game.
might have been the spark they needed to get ONE clutch hit.
dogcatratcheese - May 5, 2008
It's not the same this year.
Lou got warned pretty severely after last year.
Getting thrown out doesn’t guarantee the team gets sparked.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
yea
we arent allowed to get a spark, just stay a dud
cause right now any team could beat us.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
you miss his point.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
What's new?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I can see your point...
you guys act like its hard to understand. Great i see he cant get mad, oh man whats new..grow up
Rudey - May 5, 2008
you still
miss his point.
Getting mad and getting tossed isn’t a guarantee for ramping the team up.
Lou’s not stupid. He knows how to do this.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Right...
didn’t Bobby Cox get suspended last year? Or was it a huge fine?
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
what's the over/under on number of "Send Fontenot down" fanposts by gametime tomorrow?
whatever it is, I’ll go with the over.
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
LOL
Really, when he hit the 3run homer the other night, they were bitching about him not playing more…
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
fontenot
needs to burn in hell with that filty mullet.
Glacier - May 5, 2008
completely unnecessary
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
completely necessary
why the hell would he run hes not even the tying run middle order coming up pitcher was wild that my friend was unnecessary
Glacier - May 5, 2008
ok.
Cripes.

I bet you can’t.

hm
i bet you i can.

Are you Blue Mike?
Did you play college ball?
How much do you want to bet?
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Don't start dissing the mullet
because you can’t categorize your hair on whether it’s time for business, or to party.
He muffed a ball bad in the 2nd inning, and had a bad out in the 9th. Sucks, on to the next game.
NittanyCub - May 5, 2008
stupid comment of the night
sue369 - May 5, 2008
That's actually a pretty competitive award.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I'm getting
a headache from reading all of them.
sue369 - May 5, 2008
ya know
i think we should all be understanding of the frustration instead of calling each other “stupid” i mean we are talking about the CUBS!!! they DEFINE highs and lows.
CubbyBlues - May 5, 2008
Very Well Said..Now if only Sue et al can read the above and understand it...
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
Ok, so you just took a very inclusive post...
and made it divisive. That’s the kind of crap that I’m talking about.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
please guys
i meant what i said, be constructive
CubbyBlues - May 5, 2008
ok, I'm kinda with you so far...
...but can you also explain the need for people to post hurtful, hateful, invective comments?

One thing the Cubs did do..
Was help the Reds end their 5 game losing streak.
adam316 - May 5, 2008
send him to the brewers.
I’d gladly take him.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008

VolPowers - May 5, 2008
who? Fontenot?
well he is doing much better than Weeks at the moment
Chanman25 - May 5, 2008
exactly why
i said send him to the brewers
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Id take a whole new team at this point
one that can win at least 4 out of the last 11
Havent been asking much of lately.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
I'm sure there is a
team out there just waiting for a fan like you. Please try and find them.
sue369 - May 5, 2008
Nope
I always have and will always be a cubs fan, im sorry some fans dont enjoy watching mediocrity for years and saying “lets get them tommorow” or “next year” some people wanna see a WS in their lifetime. Find a team where the fans are always happy, please try and find them.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
Speak for yourself.
Let’s practice using “I” and “me” instead of “some people” and “some fans”.
Would hate to have someone mistake your opinion for mine.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I can gladly use some people
cause your not everyone other then me.
Speak for Yourself
Rudey - May 5, 2008
Uh, I did speak for myself.
You=1 person. Not “some fans”.
Never did I say whose opinion was the most popular.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Speak for yourself
is saying i cant use the words “some people” because im not pointing my finger at you. IM saying there is other people who feel as i do, which there is. I see you agree with me by saying ” Never did I say whose opinion was the most popular” therefore I hope you realize it made 0 sense for you to try and say I cant use the words “some people” cause in fact its true. Some people feel the same way i do.
TY
Rudey - May 5, 2008
That's my point Rudey.
There is not perfect team so there are no fans who are happy all the time. I want the Cubs to win as much as anyone on here but the constant whining you do won’t change things.
sue369 - May 5, 2008
I say usually 1-2 comments during a loss
and about a billion during a win.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
You have a selective memory.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I dont see a quick fix.
Not counting trades this team need to find some fire, because as soon as we are losing you all as much as me can feel the Cubs just going out and doing the motions. Smart at bats and clutch hitting hasnt been there for over 10 games.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
Ok, but it was there for a nice little win streak earlier.
I don’t see a quick fix either. Not sure we need one—we looked REALLY good for a couple of weeks there.
So what good is it to go on and on about it?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
The same good saying "we will get them tommorow" does
NONE.
none of us can change anything but we can talk about it.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
You aren't a troll
but hands down you are the best whiner in here. You started posting negative stuff tonight before the game even started.

Some people vent in the forums by saying this or that person is bad which is true, others of you scan the comments for anything negative so you can jump down their throat and i really think its your way of venting which is fine, we all hate losing.

The Cubs get breaks...
when they are winning and during a streak like this it seems like, yes:
1) Every ball ripped is right at an outfielder
2) The umps blow every close call
3) Guys that never get hits in clutch situations – Pie, Fontenot – finally get one and it ends up not mattering
4) Middle relievers do their job but we can’t come back and make it count
5) Woody pitches scoreless when it isn’t a save chance
6) every error opens floodgate to runs
HOpefully the tide will turn soon.
BeltwayCubsFan - May 5, 2008
This last week
showcases the teams shortcomings.
Enough.
The E-Man - May 5, 2008
We will get them tomorrow!!!
Sorry.

joeschmitt - May 5, 2008
go find a sorry-ass team.
This team is better than the team that won the divisional championship last year. They’re slumping, and it sucks, and some changes need to be made. We can start with the fan-base.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
"Too many utility guys who are starting"
Amen to that….

Too many career minor leaguers….

DC Cubbie - May 5, 2008
Using an extreme, obviously.
But, still, I’m not sure what people expect when you take the best or second best hitter out of the lineup, and our best RBI man.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Same old cubs finding ways to lose
When do we play the pirates again, thats the only team we look good against. Arizona is gonna shred us this weekend
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
The game tommorrow.
Is going to be great.
Awesome pitching duel.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Should be..
We really could use a big game from Z…might get us out of this rut..
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008

harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Harang...
One of the best pitchers in the NL for sure..
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
How bummed are you guys
about Gallardo? That really really sucks..
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
I hate to agree...
but this statement, “Same old cubs finding ways to lose,” is too accurate.
Mr W - May 5, 2008
Another game that we blew
Without or Without ARAM, the cubs can’t seem to get out of their own way. Good teams don’t make those mistakes.
This is the same team as last year. They have yet to show me they are any different. The Cubs may win the division, but they don’t stand a chance against the Dbacks. It will be another 3 an out…which is just not acceptable…
TheRiot Police - May 5, 2008
Yep
If we want to go to a world series it will have to be through Arizona, the rest of the national league is weak, I figure hopefully we will be the final two teams but we are so overmatched against them its not even funny.
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
Diamondback series,
If we are able to take that series, even sweep, then I think we all should at least admit that they may actually be better than we thought.
That series, and the series with the Dodgers and Padres should tell us a lot about the season.
Mr W - May 5, 2008
Which is why I'm worried because the Diamonbacks are much better than last year
and we still seem to be the same old team, if we take 2 out of 3 we should consider ourselves very, very lucky.
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
Agreed,
And if we win that series, I think we have a legitimate shot to turn thiings around. Do you not agree?
Mr W - May 5, 2008
I would hope so, yes. But if I'm not mistaken I think they have
Haren and Webb pitching in that series?
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
That's right,
And if we are able to beat those two, we are back in the hunt!
Mr W - May 5, 2008
Incorrect
It is going to be Haren, Scherzer, and Johnson….
TheRiot Police - May 5, 2008
I wouldnt call
the phillies, dodgers, and mets weak..
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
I'd say the phillies are the best out of those 3
Mets are above average, not great. Dodgers have no offense, I wouldn’t consider them a huge threat
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
no offense?
you must have forgotten who matt kemp and james loney are..
and when andruw jones heats up…i think they have some offense.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Only way the dodgers are getting in is via wildcard
Which will most likely come out of the east either the phillies or the mets
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
I agree.
but you cant say the national league is weak.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
I think TheRiot and DeRosa are way over used for their caliber
Our SP has been fragile..Soriano is colder than ice ..yada yada
cubsnlinux - May 5, 2008
Theriot is definately a backup.
And the plan for DeRo was as a super sub. Hendry wasn’t able to execute the plan.
Rick B - May 5, 2008
Look, but we're not the Yankees or the Red Sox.
We can’t buy our way to a top 5 or 10 player at every position.
And, we just don’t have the strength in our farm system right now in those positions.
What to do? What SS is available that we could actually get?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
He's on our bench.
Ronny Cedeno is an upgrade.
Rick B - May 5, 2008
But Ronny Cedeno is the answer?
Really?? He was good for 3 runs this game??
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Dempster pitched great again tonight.
And this loss doesn’t bother me because we are going to win the division.
Rick B - May 5, 2008
From a brewer fan
I couldnt agree with you more.
Cubs are going to win the central.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
It will be cubs brewers till the end
Not in a million years will the cubs ever find a way to run away with a division, they will find ways to screw it up and keep it close, so I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
Was really worried about the Brewers
being close all year, but losing Gallardo was a killer.
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
To tell you the truth, I wish we were built like you guys were.
It gives the guys a sense of unity. They come up together and all.. And we have to overspend on crappy pitchers, ala Jason Marquis while the brew crew bring up young phenom after young phenom.
Wait til Laporta comes up. That line-up will be scary good.
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
No

You won the division hands down
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008

Late August we will still be within 3 games of each other in the standings, count on it
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008

if that happens, i cant wait for the series.
butt..
we’re not as deep as you.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Just remember that were the Cubs
That should give you enough hope.
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
Don't think that for a minute.
The Brewers have the pieces to pull of a blockbuster trade for some stud pitcher. Laporta, Parra, Escobar, they are stacked
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
i have talked to LaPorta
my bro-in law played w/him at UF, he is an absolute BEAST and he signed a bat for my little cousin who visited from venezuela! i think you’ll like that guy

Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
think so
prob a september call-up this year – they’re having trouble finding him a position though, kinda like w/braun
CubbyBlues - May 5, 2008
woops got behind the thread
there has been some hate among cubs fans tonight – to the brewer guy, you are awesome! may the best team win – i posted this way up there for some perspective…
i think we should all be understanding of the frustration instead of calling each other "stupid" i mean we are talking about the CUBS!!! they DEFINE highs and lows. I prefer to be positive and forward-thinking, but i get it when somebody needs to vent. i mean i have vented on this blog before, harboring no ill will and still loving my team, and i got chewed out!
look, right now i hate fontenot. in fact, i just don’t like him in general no matter what he does b/c he looks like mickey morandini – my personal least favorite cub. but anyways, let people be upset, say something like "damn i get it you’re sad/mad/whatever, but dont worry we’ll get it going and then we can all talk about how awesome the cubs are!"
(this post is not directed at anybody…i just want everyone, pissed or composed, to understand where we’re all coming from we’re CUB FANS!
CubbyBlues - May 5, 2008

harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
well said Cubby
Sometimes, especially after the last few days, it feels good to vent to people who understand what you’re feeling. If people want to be cheerleaders, that’s fine. But it’s also okay to get mad about the kind of bad baseball we’ve been seeing lately. None of it, however, needs to get personal-what’s the point?
bluekoolaide - May 5, 2008
ok, then I'll repeat my reply I posted to this the first time in hopes I'll get some insight from others
ok, I’m kinda with you so far…
...but can you also explain the need for people to post hurtful, hateful, invective comments?
Here’s my point – take tonight’s game, top of 9th, bases loaded and Fontenot tries to score on the passed ball but is called out. Now if you’re at the game, watching it on TV, or even listening on the radio, I don’t think anyone here would begrudge a rather audible "fck" or "sht" or "gddmnt" or even all three.
And I’m not talking about the myriad of doom and gloom comments we get, or the eye-rolling, or the Cedeno/Onedec tags, and even the occasional "poop!". I’m talking about the comments that are clearly over the line. Can anyone explain why you (again, the generic "you") post those diatribes? I’m sorry but I’m just not buying the "heat of the moment" argument. There’s just too much involved with typing and posting to NOT make this a instant reaction type of thing.
ballhawk - May 5, 2008
The 9th inning...
is it me, or would any other NL team facing us in that situation (bases loaded, 1 out) have scored the three runs to get the win? It just wears me out.
Whoever mentioned a few posts ago about Wood pitching great in non-save situations was bang on. Can’t handle the pressure.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 5, 2008
Well spoken
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
all i can say is
i feel ya on both accounts
CubbyBlues - May 5, 2008
we
had our share of come-from behind wins. Remember the Cincy game last september?
The hitting has been on, or the pitching has been on. We need to figure out how to put them both together consistently. This game was definitely a disspointment. They can - and will - do better.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Prediction
Cubs pound out 9 or 10 runs tomorrow for the easy win, then get about 3 hits on Wednesday against Voquez. Hope I’m wrong, but that would be the typical “Cubbie swagger” we’ve been seeing lately.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 5, 2008
Reminds me a lot of the 2004 team
Incredibly inconsistent
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
i disagree
i think the cubs win 4-2 over harang, and i think you smash volquez.
he cant be on ALL year
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Hope you're right
sorry about Gallardo…he’s a good one. Just bad luck.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 5, 2008
haha
yeah it was a huge blow to us.
but even with him, we’re not all that deep.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
i think
volquez is THAT FREAKING GOOD – but cueto has a ways to go
CubbyBlues - May 5, 2008
EDISON volquez
He’s only good because he invented so much stuff.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
the lightbulb has really turned on for him
(ba-dum-CHING!)
CubbyBlues - May 5, 2008
glad someone
can enjoy dumb humor
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Also remember we start each game with 1 out because of Soriano
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
yeah really
He is just a bad leadoff hitter all around. I don’t remember the last time he reached base in the first inning. Has he even this year?
Bricks and Ivy - May 5, 2008
I honestly can't remember a time when he started the game getting on base.
At least were not paying him $136 million, boy that would be a real waste
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
BUUUURRRRRRRRNNNN
i feel the same way, but i also remember how he carried us last year – hopefully there is more to come
CubbyBlues - May 5, 2008
didn't see his AB's tonight
but he did seem to have better outcomes. Got on twice, almost a bomb that Griffey stole back. Hopefully he starts to sort it out.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 5, 2008
Ya it was incredible to see him manage a walk after starting the count 0-2.
Cordero really screwed that one up
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
and they let him of the hook
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 5, 2008
Yes, but did you honestly expect us to take advantage
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
hoped against all hope
but was let down again. How far away from Bako did the wild pitch get that Fonenot tried to score on?
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 5, 2008
It appeared far at first, but if you take a look at it on instant replay
It really was not worth risking it with the bases loaded and 1 out. Should have stayed
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
Bildo 1805 has a good point,
“Look, but we’re not the Yankees or the Red Sox.
WHY?
Mr W - May 5, 2008
the 01 dbacks
bought a championship
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
and the '97 Marlins
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 5, 2008
i didnt know
which one to pick, but that was my other option thank you lol
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
hUH?
Johnson and Schilling came via trades, and I don’t know about the rest. So how did they buy a champiionship?
Mr W - May 5, 2008
Johnson was a free agent signing
bluekoolaide - May 5, 2008
Agree, the farm system is consistently weak.
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
this is a good question
but is there an answer? :( i hope someone in the org. finds it
CubbyBlues - May 5, 2008
Especially frustrating:
former prospects getting traded for busts, then turning into gold.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I noticed how well Juan Cruz has settled in
with the DBacks – great middle reliever. Some guys mature slower than others.
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 5, 2008
you're killin me (tears everywhere)
CubbyBlues - May 5, 2008
Exactly,
I remember Burt Hooton being home grown and we were expecting big things from him, but he turned out to be a bust for the Cubs. Then we trade him to the Dodgers and he becomes a solid starting pitcher for the next 10 plus years?? What is up with this team?
Mr W - May 5, 2008
Pressure
Pressure to win from the fans, media, etc causes the organization to not properly develop prospects or pick the wrong prospect. Then, they give up on them and trade them away. Or they trade three good ones away for a CF from the Marlins organizations who swings a spaghetti noodle for a bat….
TheRiot Police - May 5, 2008
Right.
It’s constantly being reminded about how long it’s been since they won that weighs on this whole organization, fan base, etc. I absolutely believe if the Cubs could somehow win ONE world championship, the monkey would be off their backs and more championships would follow. The hard part is, of course, getting that one.
bluekoolaide - May 5, 2008
Not that I want to buy a championship
TheRiot Police - May 5, 2008
Mike D'Antoni is about to be announced the Bulls head coach I believe..
ARAM FOR MVP - May 5, 2008
Thx god
some god damn good news in this town for once.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
Only 6 months till hawks season?
CubsBall2202 - May 5, 2008
But knowing this town
we wont get him and we will have to live with another losing team.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
God, it's way too early to start thinking Blackhawks..
but if this keeps up, I’m going to have to start.
bluekoolaide - May 5, 2008
I'm off.
Cant wait for tommorrow pitching duel.
goodnight everyone.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
G'nite...
you sure you’re not a Cub fan?
Canadian Cubs Fan - May 5, 2008
no
im a die hard brewer fan.
Im not into this whole NEW rivalry thing.
we havent been in the national league long.
the team i hate, is the cardinals. so in a way we’re similar :)
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Finally!
The Reds are trying to do it too, and to be honest, they actually have half of a claim to be our rival.
But the Brewers????? No.
Our rival is the Cardinals, then the White Sox.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
yeah
ours is the cardinal.
if you want to go oldschool brewers we hate the angels and yankees as well.
i dont HATE the cubs, a small dislike towards them.
And they are really pushing the twins to be our rival.
whats with that?
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Stanford??
joking!
northsider - May 6, 2008
and i cant wait for
the cubs to tear the white sox a new asshole during interleague play
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
Anyone can beat us if we continue to play like this
But by then we should be out of this terrible streak.
Thx for the support!
Rudey - May 5, 2008
You just can't let a conversation pass
Without throwing in the negativity.
The Blackhawks could use you in goal.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
You complain as much as you can about complainers
therefore you win, i suppose.
Nothing like a man who just lives to complain about any complaining.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
I'm just saying:
If someone posted a thought saying “My kitten is the cutest kitten in the world,” your reply just might be “That’s because the other kittens are currently losing, because they don’t work counts and they get paid too much.”
You are constantly looking for opportunities to inject pessimism.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I wish people really knew me
Im negative when im right to be, losing 8 out fo the last 11.
Im positive when we are doing good, thats how it works. I guess some cubs fans handle all these years saying oh “we will get them tommorow” and “Next year!” but some of us like to talk about us losing when we are losing.
Im extremely optomistic when there is something to be optomistic about.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
The post was about the prospect of the Cubs beating the White Sox weeks from now.
And you brought up our current losing streak.
Unrelated.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Well then say i said something Unrelated
dont need to hear u complaining about complaining.
Whatever I got finals tommorow I dont have time to talk to a guy who seems to have the ultimate face lift and never down.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
Hope it's not an English final.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
or logic.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Nope
but ill still be more mature then the guy who cant give up and argument and even cares about spelling on the serious interwebz…..
Hey at least you can reply and say im negative or something. You need a new hobby.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
Night
Rudey - May 5, 2008
Wow, you won't even let yourself have the last word.
(And yes, I realize the irony here)
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
Yea
its pretty funny pal.
Rudey - May 5, 2008
Must be nice to always be right when you think you are.
What’s it like being perfect?
northsider - May 6, 2008
See?
Common ground. It’s wonderful :)
I just hope someone beans AJ. He’s the one player I actually root for to get hurt.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I loathe AJ.
sue369 - May 5, 2008
the anti-Soto?
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
pretty much
sue369 - May 5, 2008
i love geo.
My favorite cub hands down.
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
mine too :D
sue369 - May 5, 2008
haha!
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
You laugh...
After the AJ-Barrett fight, I got one of the custom t-shirt jerseys.
Number 8.
With “Bean AJ” for the name.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
off topic
My best friend (cubs fan) full name is Michael Barrett Moe.
pretty cool eh?
harveyswallbangers - May 5, 2008
The 2006 version of me loves it!
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I root for him not to get hurt,
but to score a golden sombrero all 6 games of the series.
northsider - May 6, 2008
Just be thankful
You don’t live in that area like myself. It feels like running into your hot ex-girlfriend with her new boyfriend everyday while you are picking you nose

O/T
Anyone seen Iron Man yet? Wonder if it’s worth checking out?
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
yes
it’s a great movie.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Thanks..
Can’t wait to see it. I hear you def have to stay to the end and the credits, because of a Samuel L. Jackson scene or something. Not sure what’s up with that..
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
Agent.....
Rudey - May 5, 2008
yes, stay through the credits.
drewishdrewid - May 5, 2008
Will do...thx..
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
I hate bad baseball
Always have, always will.
jcg996 - May 5, 2008
Starting to squander opportunities......
just like last year….16/9 in the LOB category…not bad when you score 12-13 runs…but pathetic when you only score 3. 86 wins won’t bee enough this year….
kcjones - May 5, 2008
at least they made the Reds
throw 172 pitches….......Dusty have anything to do w/ that?
kcjones - May 5, 2008
Again, if D. Lee doesn't hit, the Cubs don't win.
Fraggin Judge - May 5, 2008
My 2 cents on Thom Brennaman.
Fraggin Judge - May 5, 2008
WAAAAY out of bounds.
Plus, just wrong. He said Soto’s season thus far is surprising. The man won PCL player of the year last year.
Thommy Boy: Fat Ego in a Little Booth.
Bildo1805 - May 5, 2008
I missed this, did this happen in tonights game?
...I am speechless.
JB 23 - May 5, 2008
I never liked Thom
I never liked him when he was with WGN, I hate having to listen to him during college and NFL games, and always thought of him as an assclown. It didn’t surprise me that he brought up the notion that Soto was juicing. I’m glad the only time I ever have to listen to this guy is when I can’t watch the Cubs play the Reds on WGN.
At least Chris Welsh has some class and turned the conversation away from the whole steroids deal.
NOLA_Cub_Fan - May 5, 2008
I think Thom was more or less
Trying to figure out the dramatic improvement in Soto’s overall HR and batting average numbers. I heard the first part of the rant, but missed the second half, so I may have missed any discussion of steroids. That said, I think a lot of people in baseball do that thru the minors, it’s what they are there for, to improve hitting. Power and patience usually develops in young, talented hitters, and judging by last night, I would say Soto fits in that category.
MixFMKyle - May 6, 2008
Wow..
Anyone have his exact words?
Bump Bailey - May 5, 2008
Pujols just scored from 2nd on a ground out.
Stealing 3rd on the pitch and just kept coming. That’s what a smart ball team does, rather run into outsand boot balls all over the field. Just seems like we don’t have it, poor execution and zero clutch hitting and pitching. How many games can we walk runs in and leave the base loaded???
