I bet Wood is looking back saying, “boy, I wonder where I was 10 years ago. Too bad I don’t remember any of it and no one is around to remind me. Oh how the memory slips as the seconds tick by…”
...you should do it every so often to keep defenses honest against you and open up some holes in the infield. With nobody on ahead of you, it’s not a bad idea.
SACRIFICE bunting is often a tool of evil, but bunting for a base hit is a powerful weapon when used sparingly.
...if you have a speedier guy that can get some singles/reach on errors out of it. But mostly its value is when one run wins you the game – not could, not might, but DOES.
so I dont care about delivery. I’m in it for the entertainment value. Good anchors are a dime a dozen. One that fumbles every line is cash money in my book. Boobs are a plus too….
And that is to have sharks, with friggin’ laser beams attached to their heads! Apparently my cycloptic colleague informs me that can’t be done. What do I pay you people for, honestly?
I just think it’s hilarious that you have guys like Volquez and Scherzer, but ESPN chooses their object of affection and just won’t let it go. It’s hilarious.

SackMan - May 6, 2008

daver - May 6, 2008
z's batting average

bikemonkey - May 6, 2008
smaller sample size for z
that explains it – that’s also why cedeno, even though he is hitting lights out and has 2 rbi’s tonight, is worse than fontenot and theriot and derosa
CubbyBlues - May 6, 2008
Z is the one who will carry this team
and already is.
Bluelou - May 6, 2008
from your keyboard to God's ears hopefully sackman
Madison Cub Fan - May 6, 2008

PINCH-HITTER
9 R. Johnson RH
northsider - May 6, 2008
think Woody will be pitching for his role as closer tonight
if he blows this one, I think Marmol gets the gig
DC Cubbie - May 6, 2008
Pin still has Soriano in leadoff
He is a man of his word
jajonez77 - May 6, 2008
let woody have the night to pitch
I mean after all, this exact date ten years ago he pitched pretty well if I can remember..
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
wood will get the job done
and i think this could be a good confidence boast for him, and get him on the right track
cubsmania - May 6, 2008
he won't
if we just stay calm – only two bad days both against the brew
CubbyBlues - May 6, 2008
PH Johnson
pops out to CF. 2 out.
northsider - May 6, 2008
johnson stays in to play LF for soriano?
won’t happen, but might not be a bad idea…

I highly doubt it....

EJThunder - May 6, 2008
Dusty's plan in the 9th: hit it to Soriano
SackMan - May 6, 2008
lol!
wait, dusty has a plan? my how he’s changed….
anormal - May 6, 2008
I'd love to see Dusty try to do just that.
Grab a bat, skip.

Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
Nice!
brianf7408 - May 6, 2008
SORIANO'S UP!!! EVERYONE CELEBRATE, SORIANO IS FREAKIN AT BAT!!
NittanyCub - May 6, 2008
hahaha just like soriano's at bats, the pictures have gotten much better each time!
CubsBall2202 - May 6, 2008
And he hits a double!
So let’s recap:
1 AB: K
2 AB: Tapper to pitcher.
3 AB: Lineout to SS.
4 AB: Single
5 AB. Double.
Couple more ABs and he’ll hit for the cycle! But let’s hope that’s not necessary.
daver - May 6, 2008
LF Soriano
flies to LF, bounces right in front of Dunn, who is an even worse fielder than Sori. Double!
northsider - May 6, 2008
Well, well, well...
a nice double for Sori.
drewishdrewid - May 6, 2008
I think wood will get it done
But, Why not keep big Z in the way the 8th went?
jajonez77 - May 6, 2008
111 pitches
cubs ftw - May 6, 2008
Personally I want to avoid too much more milage on Z's arm tonight...
...especially after that slide.

Lou concurs. He's done for the night.
daver - May 6, 2008

He's the consumate leadoff man!
Itchy - May 6, 2008
Dude, Dusty just came out to change up the pitchers, man.
Strategy: Force the Cubs to clog the bases. That is sure to throw off their offense!
northsider - May 6, 2008
how dusty decided to bring in Lincoln
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008

CubbyBlues - May 6, 2008
How about pinch-hitting for Theriot here? Like putting in Ward for a PH?
Move Cedeno to SS, and put DeRosa in at 2nd.

daver - May 6, 2008

Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
Bush league.
Only Dusty would bunt with his power hitters in the bottom of the freaking ninth
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
I don't recall Dusty
knowing what a bunt WAS as a Cub. He’s probably pissed at Votto
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
Yeah, that's base-clogging stuff, dude.
daver - May 6, 2008
LOL!
Let’s not speak of the Neifi, two-outs in the bottom of the ninth bunt…
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
i remember that!
cubs ftw - May 6, 2008
OMG
what the HELL was he doing? I still can’t believe he did that.
BigJohnAZ - May 6, 2008
oh wow i just remembered how pathetic that was
and whats even worse was that baker defended it
CubsBall2202 - May 6, 2008
If you have a guy that CAN bunt...
...you should do it every so often to keep defenses honest against you and open up some holes in the infield. With nobody on ahead of you, it’s not a bad idea.
SACRIFICE bunting is often a tool of evil, but bunting for a base hit is a powerful weapon when used sparingly.
cwyers - May 6, 2008
Agreed.
Bluelou - May 6, 2008
Every so often Ortiz bunts against that absurd wishbone shift...
...that teams put on him. Any lefty slugger that sees that shift with any sort of frequency should consider it. It’s smart baseball.
cwyers - May 6, 2008
True,
especially the bit about sac bunts. I hate sac bunts with a passion that will never die.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
The sacrifice can be the correct choice...
...if you have a speedier guy that can get some singles/reach on errors out of it. But mostly its value is when one run wins you the game – not could, not might, but DOES.
cwyers - May 6, 2008
I just hate giving away outs.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
I'm here guys.
Come on Woody!
Fukumania - May 6, 2008
wow, a cleanup hitter who bunts! ... and i just wish we had a leadoff hitter who could drop one down from time to time…

I dont think thats official yet. I know she asked for more time off and hasnt started recordeing yet
Keystone80435 - May 6, 2008
Ah, the life of a music star.
Not everyone takes “heroin days” off from work.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
must be nice huh
Keystone80435 - May 6, 2008
I like her music,
but she looks like something my cat coughed up.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
She looked smokin hot last year in Cincy
all drenched in champaign!
Itchy - May 6, 2008
WOODY!!!
Oh, I heart him.
Sarah Hope - May 6, 2008
Looked VERY strong.
northsider - May 6, 2008
I'm quite literallly
beaming right now
Sarah Hope - May 6, 2008
I don't know whether to say "awwwww"
or be kinda weirded out.
Kidding! There’s no one on the team I want to see succeed more than Woody.
northsider - May 6, 2008
You're right to be weirded out
I have a problem.
Sarah Hope - May 6, 2008
where is blue mike to say that Wood sucks?
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
He's out punching a kitten.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
And complaining to his buddies about how it doesn't take his punches like a real ballplayer
northsider - May 6, 2008
you mean like
him when he played college ball.
drewishdrewid - May 6, 2008
And tripping the elderly
Sarah Hope - May 6, 2008
damn it
its too bad he didn’t post tonight, he’s getting roasted…coulda built up some goodwill w/some positive posts w/the win
CubbyBlues - May 6, 2008
but then
he wouldn’t be Blue Mike.
drewishdrewid - May 6, 2008
this is so
CubbyBlues - May 6, 2008
yeah but he can't
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
LMAO!
JB 23 - May 6, 2008
Come up with any new ways... to be Kerry's wife Sarah?
Madison Cub Fan - May 6, 2008
There's always kidnapping
That’s how me and Jessica Alba are one.
NittanyCub - May 6, 2008
Worked for me too..
Scarlett and I are doing fine thank you.
Bump Bailey - May 6, 2008
Haven't we gone through this already?
cwyers - May 6, 2008
I'm tellin ya
It’s like how they switched Darrins in Bewitched. Hmmm… you look like a different person… but you have the same name… Perplexing…..
Sarah Hope - May 6, 2008
Icing on the cake...
David Delucci just hit a pinch-hit three run homer off of Joba Chamberlain – Indians up 5-3 in the 8th.
ballhawk - May 6, 2008
suck it yankees!
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
The GREAT Joba??
Not possible, ESPN says he is the greatest pitcher ever.
JB 23 - May 6, 2008
that guy needs to be a starter
lol love it
CubbyBlues - May 6, 2008
I'm sure ESPN cut away for a gamebreak to catch this momentous occasion.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
Can we leave the inferiority complex to the Brewers fans?
cwyers - May 6, 2008
No complex here.
I just think it’s hilarious that you have guys like Volquez and Scherzer, but ESPN chooses their object of affection and just won’t let it go. It’s hilarious.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
well the White Sox have a NO HITTER GOING
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
oh my! a NO - HITTER!
How exciting! It’s sure to finish that way too! I better call my Sox fan friends to congratulate them! Set the DVR! A NO-HITTER, how about that!
northsider - May 6, 2008
did I mention there is a no hitter going
in the southside?
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
They're getting no hit,
or their pitcher is tossing a no-no?
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
Gavin Floyd 7 IP no hits...
JB 23 - May 6, 2008
Good for him.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
eh he can have it
it seems like it be good for himm
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
pittcher has given up a run, but Gavin Floyd has a no hitter going agaisnt the Twins
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
the run is unearned
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
I keep waiting for the no hitter where the pitcher walks in a run.
cwyers - May 6, 2008
Z almost had one a while ago
and BBTN is jynxing the guy like crazy…
yes and they aren’t using Hawk feed on ESPN!
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
cubs ftw - May 6, 2008
Wow - WCIU just cut away from a commercial in order to get back to the game
ballhawk - May 6, 2008
of course it was a Sox promotional commercial, so probably no money lost...
ballhawk - May 6, 2008
Floyd looks nervous as hell
hope he gets it now..
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
me too....his stuff looks really nasty
JB 23 - May 6, 2008
odd he is wearing #34 and is relatively young
reminds me of a game somone in chicago 10 years ago..
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
nice play!
one more inning to go!
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
Great play by Cabrera,
but for a guy who’s supposed to be a speed merchant, Gomez didn’t seem to get down the line too quickly.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
No hitter
no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitterno hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter no hitter
Sarah Hope - May 6, 2008
Did the announcers just say that?
Ridiculous….
Sarah Hope - May 6, 2008
that's not nice....
...but Hawk is doing his best as well. He has mentioned it about 5 times
JB 23 - May 6, 2008
Holy crap.
Check out the gun on Cuddyer. Helluva throw.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
what the hell is up
with Swisher’s FACIAL hair???
drewishdrewid - May 6, 2008
He's been hitting like his dad lately,
so he decided to switch it up. He was on the radio today talking about it.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
he changed from the banana colored chin scrub?
ballhawk - May 6, 2008
no, that's what I'm talking about.
I don’t watch the White Sox. Ever. Except this is a history game, if the pitcher makes it, so…
these announcers are TERRIBLE.
drewishdrewid - May 6, 2008
Gammons is repeating on ESPN that the Cubs are still looking for a LH OF
he even mentioned a name like Brian Giles..
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
Ugh.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
yeah AWESOME
not…
CubbyBlues - May 6, 2008
maybe 3 years ago
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
5 years ago more like....
JB 23 - May 6, 2008
Barry!
CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!
Bonds!
CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!
(Now, do I really want Barry Bonds? Not so much. But I want him a heck of a lot more than I want Brian Giles or Junior Griffey, and he only costs money.)
cwyers - May 6, 2008
wow...you think Wrigley is a circus now..
..that would be nuts. Not sure how that would go over in the clubhose
JB 23 - May 6, 2008
no problem
Cubs would just convert the Batters Eye (that bar/restaurant area behind center field) into Barry’s own personal clubhouse.
ballhawk - May 6, 2008
Hawk
LOVES Joe Crede. It’s almost a little creepy.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
figuratively or sexually?
Chanman25 - May 6, 2008
both i think
CubbyBlues - May 6, 2008
Sox have been up a long time in the bottom of the 8th...
Ozzie must be going through hell sitting in the dugout and not being able to say anything
ballhawk - May 6, 2008
Abreu takes a called strike three - ballgame! Indians 5 - Yankees 3
ballhawk - May 6, 2008
Well, here's hoping I'm not suffering
through Hawk and DJ for nothing.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
at this point, I'm definitely rooting for Gavin to get it...
...but if he doesn’t, then I hope it’s on a controversial call, just to hear Hawk pop a vein in his forehead on the air…
Dagumbit!
ballhawk - May 6, 2008
Former Cub Brendan Harris
at the dish.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
That curve is filthy.
gary varsho - May 6, 2008
1 out...
nasty nasty stuff
JB 23 - May 6, 2008
double by Mauer...
ballhawk - May 6, 2008
Slew foot Swisher just blew it for him
Itchy - May 6, 2008
That Sox OF defense BLOWS!!
Itchy - May 6, 2008
Mauer with a double..
....that is why those things are so rare. 8 1/3 of no hit ball
JB 23 - May 6, 2008
oh, well.
wow, tho.
drewishdrewid - May 6, 2008
the kid has the stuff tho
i hope gallagher can become close to as nasty as floyd – i will say sean looked like he has mean stuff the other night
