Just saw the Soriano HR

Lets go bullpen!

NY Times Sports Section

had a nice blurb on how Dusty screwed up his rotation by using two of his starters for so many innings in that 18 inning game and using them in their usual spots in the rotation 2-3 days later.

Same old Dusty, even if he did keep the pitch counts down (in the next start). Couldn’t he dip into the minors for a start to give his starters an extra day off?

Atkins another dangerous hitter as the tying run.
Fan Graphs

Anyone else ever follow the Fan Graphs during the game?

Sometimes, but not often.
Ballhawk got pulled early... (Damn Lou and his double switches)

Unfortunately I wasn’t around to catch it. Had to leave early and just got home in time to hear the call on the radio. Missed the TV replay, but sounded like it went way out there. No idea who got it. If it was right down the line, probably a passerby. The closer to left-center it was, then probably ballhawk dave.

It was straight away left

Not the corner.

dang

next time

This is an overload of overflow threads

This whole game could have potentially been done in one post.

You can post that on the complaint thread...
YOU CAN POST THAT IN THE ANNOYING THREAD!

BURN!

It's nice to have

the option when they do get overloaded though.

like in the 10-9 game

1600+ posts!!

exactly
I think the overflow threads are neccessary

But we could actually use a better transition procedure rather than one random person saying “hey everyone, overflow thread is up, lets all go over there”.

Al, is there some way to have an automatic post in the current thread every 5 minutes stating that the over flow is up? Or some alternative?

I really don't

see a problem with the way it’s done now. It’s no big deal to me.

no prob

just thinking out loud :)

and lately

they’ve been overloaded more often than not

yes they have
yeah, but you never know

when you’re going to need them. Better to have them than not.

This ump has had a

very GENEROUS outside corner all day. That should be good for Howry.

I am assuming that Howry pitches the 8th.

Assuming the score stays the same, does Woody close?

Yeah, I believe Woody would be back closing today.
Throw that cheese, Bobby!
Zook is pissing intensity

The Rox can’t handle the Zook-er

oof. Zook sooks.
How horrible!!!!
we've seen worse. :P
I had to mute my TV.
::channeling football players::
Almost made Mike Hampton

sound good.

Egads what a disaster

1) Terrible rendition

2) Crowd shot of a bunch of racists and their racist ‘chief” shirts

moving on….

huh?
whaddya mean huh?

People want to crow about the racism in the “Horry Crow” Fuko shirts then don’t tolerate an amalgamation of American Indian sterotypes that was Chief Illiniwek.

Not mention Chief Wahoo over in Cleveland

ot the most blatantly racist sports mascot: The Washington Redskins

um.

My highschool team was the Indians. So, really, I don’t see a major problem with it. Chief Wahoo, maybe. But Chief Illiniwek looks, to me, to be respectful. And I say that as someone who is 1/16th native american, and my wife is 1/8th native american.

I hate to break this to you...

but 1/16th of anything doesn’t make you more qualified or not. How about if that 1/16th of you actually practiced your Native American heritage. Or maybe that 1/8th of your wife’s heritage actively participated in the heritage.

My point is that there are full-blooded American Indians whose lives and culture revolve around these things and for white people to use them for entertainment is just silly. Frankly, I’d love to see a reservation school name itself the Fightin’ Jesus. That would be awesome.

Anyhow…...wrong place, wrong time for the discussion. Go Cubs!

Good thing Brandis

doesn’t have a team or they’d be the Rabid Rabbis.

dood, you brought it up

and while I’d never make the suggestion that I’m a minority, I have spent time with both my native american relatives, and my wife’s, so why don’t you watch your mouth, huh?

I don’t have a problem with sports teams using the Native American as a mascot, provided it’s done respectfully. After all, in order to be a hunter with a bow and arrow or spear, you gotta be an athlete.

I'll watch my mouth when you do more than "spend time"

You live it? Believe it?

Don’t care either way – as I know what I do.

As I said..wrong place, wrong time. Go Cubs.

you know what you do?

you got a real mouth on you, buddy. You ought take a real look in the mirror and figure out who is disrespecting who.

And again, I say: YOU BROUGHT IT UP. Dick.

I think you should either

take it with a grain of salt and let it go or take it elsewhere. This isn’t the place.

Keep throwing insults

You were the one spouting off about the fractions of heritage in your blood. Don’t believe I ever brought any of that up.

let’s go Kid K.

you were the one

throwing accusations of racism around.

Here’s a hint: one does not “practice” being a native american.

Then all that time in the kiva was a waste

plenty of practice involved.

for the third time…moving on. Go Cubs.

oh, and I mean it this time:)

you don't get it.
i get it just fine

you want to discuss it with me rationally, then here’s my email:

kuyibravo (at) yatoo.com

substitute “t” for the name of a popular email site – as well as the (at) and I’m more than willing to discuss it offsite.

no thanks.

I don’t think the word “rational” enters your vocabulary.

have fun thinking everyone’s a racist.

believe what you want

you know where to find me.

By the bike rack after class??
I've honestly no idea what that means.
That's okay.
And you should let it go as well

this is neither the place or the time. However it is time for both of you to cool off and grow up a little bit.

+1 for Chief Illiniwek

Had the support of the Oglala Sioux.

Great one of the enemy

of the Illinois likes Illiniwek. How do the Iroquois feel?

That 1-0 pitch was at his ankles!

this ump must have a date.

good job Aramis... 2b
Aram doubles!

let’s get some more insurance runs!

Nittany Cub, you've got to hate this guy!
Of course he talks about the Penn State game

What a joke of a coach

I have my own reason for disliking him, even though my team doesn't play the Illini.

Sorry, Illini rooters.

He pisses intensity - Paterno pisses his depends

i kid…..i kid…...

I'm sorry, all your 0-fer-BCS is still a glare in my eyes.
The glare from all your

failed NFL prospects has blinded ours.

Yeah, Larry Johnson is pretty putrid

But how about we all count the great up-and-comers from the great U of I?

Juice Williams is pretty good.

Yeah, Ki-Jana Carter called,

he wants you to get a hold of Curtis Enis and get Kerry Collins number so he can return the lighter he stole while they were drinking at Paul Pozluzny’s house.

I think Jimmy Carter and Michael Haynes were at that party, as well.
Who's Paul Pozluzny?

I know who Posluszny is, but this Pozluzny guy must be something else.

Not all universities can hold great players like Tony Pashos, Matt Sinclair and Eugene Wilson. See, Penn State actually has players who are deemed “failures” or “busts” because of their high expectations; U of I alums are just glad to not be pumping gas(yet).

I hear Simeon Rice was pretty good.
That (one) great year was something else.
I understand

you are flustered by Penn State being a dying football program, and the Illini passing them up. Its understandable.

Haha, alright man.

Lets make claims with no substance about what the future holds, because people are always right about that!

I’m going to bookmark this comment, and get back to you during January 2009; I’ll even eat my own words if Penn State holds a worse record than the Illini.

You are on.

The Illini will end next season with a better rank than Penn St AND will have a better Big Ten record.

Which one of the 8 seasons with duoble digit sacks did you mean?

or did you mean one of the 3 seasons with 15 or more sacks? Could you clarify?

Wow,

spelling.You’re going there.

SPELLIN NEVAR MATURS ABOOT NETHING!

BUT YOU WLIL REPSCET MY OPIINON!

Typically juvenile.

I actually like Penn State and think they got screwed in that game against Michigan, but you keep up with the pointless 8th grade aggression.

Haha dude, if you can't handle a ribbing

you shouldn’t have butted yourself into this conversation.

I actually got into Urbana-Champaign, and it was a toss-up(for the most part) between there, PSU, and UCSD.

And, hey, lets not forget the real great alumns from the U of I

Don't be made because JoePa doesn't waterski

INTENSE!

that doesn't look like waterskiing

it seems he is holding on to the back of a boat.

That's what I thought too.
i've no idea what it is technically...

but it’s most certainly INTENSE!

looks like a jet ski
I'd sure hate to be a bullpen catcher in Wrigley Field.
Come on, let's pick up Aram from 2nd for crying out loud!

This isn’t some smoker on the mound. It’s Manny Corpus for crying out loud!

Manny Corpas is bad at sports.
made Dome and Soto look pretty bad.
He was good enough to

get through the inning with ARam on 2nd and not give us another run.

You guys are priceless.
Milwaukee

beating the tar out of the astros.

Unfortnuately, the Cardinals are winning.

Did it with Hall, Weeks, Cameron, Kendall, and Hardy on the bench.
Doesn't matter if the Cardinals keep winning

if the Cubs keep doing it too.

Brewers starting to heat up.

Knock on wood, but I’ve always felt they would be our chief competition in the division. I just can’t imagine that the Cards can hang all the way, but I can see the Brewers doing it.

OT: fan who caught Manny's 500th

gave it back to him.

Good guy.

My god, someone was actually a good sport??

I hope Manny did something for him.

gave him some stuff

Manny’s going to auction the ball for charity. Good story all around

Soriano, always keeping it interesting.

Does Lou sub for him in the 9th?

alright!

let’s get some insurance!

yes
I'd love for Kerry

to get another day off. He will probably get a lot of work in those pitcher’s parks on the left coast.

Who would you

put in in his place?

If we score 3-4 runs...

any number of guys. But we have to use Wood today if we don’t score.

I'd have killed to have gotten to play catch with my dad in Wrigley Field.
So

Does Easy Gas own the fifth spot now?

He may have earned the 4 spot.
Who is Easy Gas?

I’m not getting the nick name apparently

Gallagher

Brenly called him that on his last start. Said Lou liked Gallagher for his speed… “Easy Gas”.

How is a ball scraping the dirt a strike?
ONDEC pinch hits for Howry

Woody up in the pen.

Johnson pinch hits

for Mighty Mouse. Looks like Ondec will be at 2nd, and Soriano will be pulled in the 9th.

the Soriano defensive replacement era

has officially begun!

It began yesterday.

Sori says he doesn’t mind, so it should work out.

good to hear!
wow, that was a bad swing.
wow... rox looking at 12th consecutive road loss

says BB. Ouch

Let's not jinx it

they still got a chance

They've had massive injury problems.
let's see if this ump

keeps that generous outside corner in the top of the 9th.

It has been there all day!!

Just don't hit the first batter, Woody.
Man, the ump wants him to groove one.
cripes

this ump!

Don't give in, Woody!
Kosuke is money in right field!!!
Is Soriano taking notes

on how to play the sun.

I was just thinking the same thing
Got to give him credit that was a good at bat for spillguts.
Oh, the smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
overpowered!
dang!

good effort though

Theriot - looking to leave it all out on the field!
including several layers of epidermis
Scrappy-doo

so close

dare I say

scrapey?

Brenly's man-crush on Theriot is getting icky.
lou says

some VERY bad words!

Lou didn't like that call.
Cue the music!

CUBS WIN!!!

FLY IT!

now let’s win some on the road

Fly it!!

Sweep!!

CUBS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SCHWEEEP BABY

CUBS WIN CUBS WIN CUBS WIN!!!!!

Yesssss!!!

Photobucket

I repeat, I love this man!
That Ump turned into a real POS in the 9th inning.

Lou was cursing his ass out.

agreed.

he went from calling wide corners and ankle high strikes all day to making Woody work his ass off. What a schmuck!

No problem though, Woody was up to the task.

Off to California!!

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!
Where's Bill Murray?
Pinella....

If Lou isn’t more ebullient after winning 7 in a row…I don’t what to say. Even if he’s up 3-0 in the World Series, I bet he would still be cautious!

C’mon Lou!! Join the fans and show some enthusiasm for a job well done so far. It’s been a 100 years-enjoy this success while we can!

Stop saying "while we can."

You’re talking like this is just gonna stop tomorrow. ‘Lil optimism, please.

OK....I am optimistic..

I wish Lou felt the same way. He’s the one who makes it sound like we’re not even going to make the playoffs

He does not sound like that.

He sounds like a man who is doing his job and is doing it well. Not everyone shows emotion the same way.

Well said, ma'am.
It's every manager's job

to manage expectations. He’s not giggly, to be sure, but by playing it low key he’s also keeping his players’ in check—it’s a long season and anything can and will happen between now and the playoffs. I would be disappointed in Lou if he played it any other way.

well said Emelie
::sigh::

Leave the man alone.

Sorry.

But I mean, what does he want Lou to do? Cartwheels and backflips? If ya don’t know Lou by now….

I was replying to

ronsanto10. I agree with you.

Oh, surry.

My bad.

backflips

are definitely not in his baliwick. :P

I think Lou needs to be cautious. It’s only June 1. Hopefully, we maintain.

Can You Snow Cone one in the Heel?

Looked like Hollywood was laughing about it.

Go Cubs Go!

Sweeeeeeeeeep!!

Photobucket

aww man

beat me to it!

Speaking of beating

Apparently Bill Murray’s wife knows all about it.

need this too!

We would have murdered 'em but

for Jason Marquis!

Thanks Drew
Well done Cubs

Let’s keep this thing going!

Remember the two babes that Lou signed autographs for?

They had those two in the closing credits for the Rockies broadcast. I’m sure it was because of their tee shirts only.

Soriano, Edmonds, Gallagher, Wood

Sure I’m missing someone – it was a team win—again

A Ram had a nice day
Yeah, everyday someone picks up the team.

Kosuke and Soto really didn’t have good games but they didn’t need to.

UNSTOPPABLE.
Wood gets the save, Prior gets the knife

Whoops

http://tinyurl.com/6yhpor

Wow

Unbelievable. I feel bad for the Former Employee, but I also say Good Riddance.

Yeah, I don't wish this on anyone.

He still gave me some really great moments as a Cubs fan.

Jeeze louize

This really shouldn’t come as a shock, but he freaking had exploratory surgery (about) a year ago. WHAT WAS THE USE OF IT?!?

And you can link URLs here by clicking on the two interconnecting chains, left of the Tree picture.

It is a shame

I really, really liked Prior. Thought he was destined for greatness. That should elucidate how little I think.

Truly a promising career in shambles.

That being said, I’d love to know how much money he’s collected over the years from not actually playing. Just curious.

Yeah, but he deserves workmens' comp for having Dusty ruin him.
Prior made

3.5 mil in 2007 to do nothing but rehab and has made 1 mil this year to do the same thing.

He made 3.5 in 2006 to pitch in like, 9 games.

So over a million per game since 2006.

Ron Santo:

“We’re in a zone right now.”

Pat Hughes:

“Let’s head to the airport!”

Not a walk-off but still feeling the sensation...

hey!

that’s a slightly different picture!

I believe that's

Lil’ Mikey in the background, and maybe…..Billy Petrick w/ the pullover?

Oops that's for you Bump
That's Rich Hill with the pullover
Yeah you're prob right
Birthday Present

Tomorrow is my birthday and the Cubs have delivered the “perfect” present early (to all of us) with an undefeated homestand.

More history was made today at Wrigley Field: with today’s win sweeping the series from the Rockies and completing the perfect 7-0 homestand the Cubs are 26-8 at home. The last time the Cubs were 26-8 at home to begin a season was the pennant winning year of 1918. April 14-26, 1970 was the last perfect homestand for the Cubs, winning 10 in a row.

So let’s enjoy the ride, since we well know how rarely these sweet things have come along for the Cubs.

GO CUBS GO !!!!

happy birthday!

Hope they bring you another good day tomorrow too!

I use that for my wallpaper..

Can you identify all the players in the pic?

Here's who i can see

Floyd, Ramirez, Bowen, Soriano, Jones, Zambrano, Rich Hill, Sinatro, Derosa, and Koyie Hill

Bowen...

Damn, I couldn’t remember his name…thx!

Tough stretch last two weeks of June.

All the games with the White Sux sandwiched around a visit to the suddenly imposing DRays.

i caught a bit of rays sox action the rays looked good,

Soriano error is the defensive play of the game.

Heh.

Fonzie gets rid of that ball in a hurry, hard, and on target

lets shoot for 4-3 on the road trip and aim for 5-2

Shoot for/aim for?? What's the dif?

Haha. J/k.

Point taken. 7-0 would be sweet though wouldn’t it.

5-2 would bring our record on the road to 500 at 15-15.

Also I was thinking today I expect us to get it together on the road but I think homefield in the playoffs could be important so even if we were to clinch the division early getting home field could be key,

Yup, I would be

pretty happy wit 5-2.

Cubsfansince1957 ...

... sorry, had a lot to do and was running around in the house and watching the game with one eye .. You are welcome, sir, for the avatar help. Nice pic!

And the virtually twin blondes in tight Lou T-shirts .. you’re right, they were ONLY on TV because of the Lou reference. THAT’s ALL

enjoyed your personal memories about being a Cubs fan ..

you oughta share more of that with the Nation here ..

Not that that's a bad thing..*wink*

the cubs are doing some butt kicking and name taking, This has been so much fun this year.

nice double sweep, now let’s take this party on the road, I predict 5-2 on this roadtrip,

Something kind of interesting

In the last few weeks I’ve been to many parties and such social events.

Last night I was at a wedding and the Cubs buzz was unbelievable.

Soto is knocking a lot of people’s socks off.

Some people I know aren’t big fans or maybe even really fans at all are getting into it,

It’s an epidemic. Cubs FEVER!

If you build it, he will come

Field of Dreams just started on a BBC channel. Score.

That was a minor league umpire behind the plate today.

Just caught it on yahoo sports. He was replacing the ump that got hurt yesterday.

Now why do you let the newbie handle the most important position? Nice job, MLB umps!

Well, in all fairness, he was fine until the 9th inning.

The, he completely crapped the bed.

Maybe

he had White Castle last night

Edmonds!!

Do ya love him now??

I can feel kind of warm and fuzzy things starting up.

But it’s hard!!!!

I don't love him

but I appreciate that he is doing his job. I’m sure he feels better about his hitting.

No

But today was the first day I actually thought it’s possible there is something left in the tank.

Isn't this the 6th Sweep

for the Cubs?

Edmonds...

Why do people find it hard to love Edmonds, but worship Derrek Lee? I still can’t forget what he did to us in the 8th inning of the Bartman game. Give Edmonds at least 20-30 more games.

I'll give him

10 more games to see how it goes. Why do you think we have to love Edmonds?

+1

Let’s see how he does on the road. And I wouldn’t compare him with Lee. Totally different situation. Lee was never our division rival, and he’s proved himself over and over again that he’s a great player, whereas Edmonds is at the end of his career.

Good Grief.

Where was this demand for patience with Pie? The kid started 9 games. 9 games. Of which hewas allowed to finish 7.

I appreciate what Edmonds has contributed, his 3-run error aside, but I would have liked to see Pie get the same oppo’s that Edmonds is getting.

Oh, well. Maybe next year.

Edmunds..

it was great seeing Big Jim high-fiving and celebrating with his team mates after the win today. He’s part of the gang now. I really feel good for him.

If you feel really good

for him maybe you could show it be spelling his name correctly.
