had a nice blurb on how Dusty screwed up his rotation by using two of his starters for so many innings in that 18 inning game and using them in their usual spots in the rotation 2-3 days later.
Same old Dusty, even if he did keep the pitch counts down (in the next start). Couldn’t he dip into the minors for a start to give his starters an extra day off?
Ballhawk got pulled early... (Damn Lou and his double switches)
Unfortunately I wasn’t around to catch it. Had to leave early and just got home in time to hear the call on the radio. Missed the TV replay, but sounded like it went way out there. No idea who got it. If it was right down the line, probably a passerby. The closer to left-center it was, then probably ballhawk dave.
But we could actually use a better transition procedure rather than one random person saying “hey everyone, overflow thread is up, lets all go over there”.
Al, is there some way to have an automatic post in the current thread every 5 minutes stating that the over flow is up? Or some alternative?
People want to crow about the racism in the “Horry Crow” Fuko shirts then don’t tolerate an amalgamation of American Indian sterotypes that was Chief Illiniwek.
My highschool team was the Indians. So, really, I don’t see a major problem with it. Chief Wahoo, maybe. But Chief Illiniwek looks, to me, to be respectful. And I say that as someone who is 1/16th native american, and my wife is 1/8th native american.
but 1/16th of anything doesn’t make you more qualified or not. How about if that 1/16th of you actually practiced your Native American heritage. Or maybe that 1/8th of your wife’s heritage actively participated in the heritage.
My point is that there are full-blooded American Indians whose lives and culture revolve around these things and for white people to use them for entertainment is just silly. Frankly, I’d love to see a reservation school name itself the Fightin’ Jesus. That would be awesome.
Anyhow…...wrong place, wrong time for the discussion. Go Cubs!
and while I’d never make the suggestion that I’m a minority, I have spent time with both my native american relatives, and my wife’s, so why don’t you watch your mouth, huh?
I don’t have a problem with sports teams using the Native American as a mascot, provided it’s done respectfully. After all, in order to be a hunter with a bow and arrow or spear, you gotta be an athlete.
he wants you to get a hold of Curtis Enis and get Kerry Collins number so he can return the lighter he stole while they were drinking at Paul Pozluzny’s house.

Lets make claims with no substance about what the future holds, because people are always right about that!
I’m going to bookmark this comment, and get back to you during January 2009; I’ll even eat my own words if Penn State holds a worse record than the Illini.
Knock on wood, but I’ve always felt they would be our chief competition in the division. I just can’t imagine that the Cards can hang all the way, but I can see the Brewers doing it.
to manage expectations. He’s not giggly, to be sure, but by playing it low key he’s also keeping his players’ in check—it’s a long season and anything can and will happen between now and the playoffs. I would be disappointed in Lou if he played it any other way.
Tomorrow is my birthday and the Cubs have delivered the “perfect” present early (to all of us) with an undefeated homestand.
More history was made today at Wrigley Field: with today’s win sweeping the series from the Rockies and completing the perfect 7-0 homestand the Cubs are 26-8 at home. The last time the Cubs were 26-8 at home to begin a season was the pennant winning year of 1918. April 14-26, 1970 was the last perfect homestand for the Cubs, winning 10 in a row.
So let’s enjoy the ride, since we well know how rarely these sweet things have come along for the Cubs.
Point taken. 7-0 would be sweet though wouldn’t it.
5-2 would bring our record on the road to 500 at 15-15.
Also I was thinking today I expect us to get it together on the road but I think homefield in the playoffs could be important so even if we were to clinch the division early getting home field could be key,
... sorry, had a lot to do and was running around in the house and watching the game with one eye .. You are welcome, sir, for the avatar help. Nice pic!
And the virtually twin blondes in tight Lou T-shirts .. you’re right, they were ONLY on TV because of the Lou reference. THAT’s ALL
Why do people find it hard to love Edmonds, but worship Derrek Lee? I still can’t forget what he did to us in the 8th inning of the Bartman game. Give Edmonds at least 20-30 more games.
Let’s see how he does on the road. And I wouldn’t compare him with Lee. Totally different situation. Lee was never our division rival, and he’s proved himself over and over again that he’s a great player, whereas Edmonds is at the end of his career.
it was great seeing Big Jim high-fiving and celebrating with his team mates after the win today. He’s part of the gang now. I really feel good for him.
First?

YOU CAN POST THAT IN THE ANNOYING THREAD!

Oh, surry.
My bad.
BMoney79 - June 1, 2008
backflips
are definitely not in his baliwick. :P
I think Lou needs to be cautious. It’s only June 1. Hopefully, we maintain.

drewishdrewid - June 1, 2008

bubbamike the one and only - June 1, 2008
Thanks Drew
sue369 - June 1, 2008
Well done Cubs
Let’s keep this thing going!
JohnM - June 1, 2008
Remember the two babes that Lou signed autographs for?
They had those two in the closing credits for the Rockies broadcast. I’m sure it was because of their tee shirts only.
Cubfansince1957 - June 1, 2008
Soriano, Edmonds, Gallagher, Wood
Sure I’m missing someone – it was a team win—again
JohnM - June 1, 2008
A Ram had a nice day
californiachicagoan - June 1, 2008
Yeah, everyday someone picks up the team.
Kosuke and Soto really didn’t have good games but they didn’t need to.
Cubfansince1957 - June 1, 2008
UNSTOPPABLE.

Unbelievable. I feel bad for the Former Employee, but I also say Good Riddance.
Jayo525 - June 1, 2008
Yeah, I don't wish this on anyone.
He still gave me some really great moments as a Cubs fan.
Cubfansince1957 - June 1, 2008
Jeeze louize
This really shouldn’t come as a shock, but he freaking had exploratory surgery (about) a year ago. WHAT WAS THE USE OF IT?
!?
And you can link URLs here by clicking on the two interconnecting chains, left of the Tree picture.
NittanyCub - June 1, 2008
It is a shame
I really, really liked Prior. Thought he was destined for greatness. That should elucidate how little I think.
Truly a promising career in shambles.
That being said, I’d love to know how much money he’s collected over the years from not actually playing. Just curious.
Gibbon Jockey - June 1, 2008
Yeah, but he deserves workmens' comp for having Dusty ruin him.
Cubfansince1957 - June 1, 2008
Prior made
3.5 mil in 2007 to do nothing but rehab and has made 1 mil this year to do the same thing.
He made 3.5 in 2006 to pitch in like, 9 games.
So over a million per game since 2006.

Birthday Present
GO CUBS GO !!!!
wrigley1 - June 1, 2008
happy birthday!
Hope they bring you another good day tomorrow too!
Emelie - June 1, 2008
I use that for my wallpaper..
Can you identify all the players in the pic?
Bump Bailey - June 1, 2008
Here's who i can see
Floyd, Ramirez, Bowen, Soriano, Jones, Zambrano, Rich Hill, Sinatro, Derosa, and Koyie Hill
gary varsho - June 1, 2008
Bowen...
Damn, I couldn’t remember his name…thx!
Bump Bailey - June 1, 2008
Tough stretch last two weeks of June.
All the games with the White Sux sandwiched around a visit to the suddenly imposing DRays.
Cubfansince1957 - June 1, 2008
Bring 'em on!
californiachicagoan - June 1, 2008
i caught a bit of rays sox action the rays looked good,
puckishcubsfan - June 1, 2008
Soriano error is the defensive play of the game.
Heh.
Fonzie gets rid of that ball in a hurry, hard, and on target
californiachicagoan - June 1, 2008
lets shoot for 4-3 on the road trip and aim for 5-2
puckishcubsfan - June 1, 2008
Shoot for/aim for?? What's the dif?
Haha. J/k.
BMoney79 - June 1, 2008
Point taken. 7-0 would be sweet though wouldn’t it.
5-2 would bring our record on the road to 500 at 15-15.
Also I was thinking today I expect us to get it together on the road but I think homefield in the playoffs could be important so even if we were to clinch the division early getting home field could be key,
puckishcubsfan - June 1, 2008
Yup, I would be
pretty happy wit 5-2.
BMoney79 - June 1, 2008
Cubsfansince1957 ...
... sorry, had a lot to do and was running around in the house and watching the game with one eye .. You are welcome, sir, for the avatar help. Nice pic!
And the virtually twin blondes in tight Lou T-shirts .. you’re right, they were ONLY on TV because of the Lou reference. THAT’s ALL
cubnational - June 1, 2008
enjoyed your personal memories about being a Cubs fan ..
you oughta share more of that with the Nation here ..
cubnational - June 1, 2008
Not that that's a bad thing..*wink*
Bump Bailey - June 1, 2008
the cubs are doing some butt kicking and name taking, This has been so much fun this year.
nice double sweep, now let’s take this party on the road, I predict 5-2 on this roadtrip,
puckishcubsfan - June 1, 2008
Something kind of interesting
In the last few weeks I’ve been to many parties and such social events.
Last night I was at a wedding and the Cubs buzz was unbelievable.
Soto is knocking a lot of people’s socks off.
Some people I know aren’t big fans or maybe even really fans at all are getting into it,
It’s an epidemic. Cubs FEVER!
puckishcubsfan - June 1, 2008
If you build it, he will come
Field of Dreams just started on a BBC channel. Score.
sanantonecub - June 1, 2008
That was a minor league umpire behind the plate today.
Just caught it on yahoo sports. He was replacing the ump that got hurt yesterday.
Now why do you let the newbie handle the most important position? Nice job, MLB umps!
Cubfansince1957 - June 1, 2008
Well, in all fairness, he was fine until the 9th inning.
The, he completely crapped the bed.
gary varsho - June 1, 2008
Maybe
he had White Castle last night
Jayo525 - June 1, 2008
Edmonds!!
Do ya love him now??
ronsanto10 - June 1, 2008
I can feel kind of warm and fuzzy things starting up.
But it’s hard!!!!
Cubfansince1957 - June 1, 2008
I don't love him
but I appreciate that he is doing his job. I’m sure he feels better about his hitting.
sue369 - June 1, 2008
Aye
JohnM - June 1, 2008
No
But today was the first day I actually thought it’s possible there is something left in the tank.
Josh Timmers - June 1, 2008
Isn't this the 6th Sweep
for the Cubs?
Emelie - June 1, 2008
Yes.
sanantonecub - June 1, 2008
Edmonds...
Why do people find it hard to love Edmonds, but worship Derrek Lee? I still can’t forget what he did to us in the 8th inning of the Bartman game. Give Edmonds at least 20-30 more games.
ronsanto10 - June 1, 2008
I'll give him
10 more games to see how it goes. Why do you think we have to love Edmonds?
sue369 - June 1, 2008
+1
Let’s see how he does on the road. And I wouldn’t compare him with Lee. Totally different situation. Lee was never our division rival, and he’s proved himself over and over again that he’s a great player, whereas Edmonds is at the end of his career.
Bump Bailey - June 1, 2008
Good Grief.
Where was this demand for patience with Pie? The kid started 9 games. 9 games. Of which hewas allowed to finish 7.
I appreciate what Edmonds has contributed, his 3-run error aside, but I would have liked to see Pie get the same oppo’s that Edmonds is getting.
Oh, well. Maybe next year.
gary varsho - June 1, 2008
Edmunds..
it was great seeing Big Jim high-fiving and celebrating with his team mates after the win today. He’s part of the gang now. I really feel good for him.
ronsanto10 - June 1, 2008
If you feel really good
for him maybe you could show it be spelling his name correctly.
