I love when the broadcast messes up and cuts into the beeps they use for offensive words. Each time I think that either Len or Bob is losing it in the booth.
anybody else's HD broadcast getting cut out a lot?
i keep getting this beeping noise, and a black screen for a few seconds from time to time. i also got this weird green box that flashed real quick showing some percentage and some words.
I’m not saying they’re bad, but they’re really not superior to the Dominicans. (They’re different, sure, but they both have their ups and downs.) It’s the scarcity that makes them so coveted.
There is absolutely NO reason to go through 4-5 pitchers in this game, and there is no reason to bring in Marmol in a 7-1 game!
Why not bring in Lieber, let him throw 3 innings to close out the game and give every else the night off? It is much easier on a pitching staff over the long haul to have 1 guy throw three innings rather than have 3 or 4 pitchers throw 1 inning or less…..
Lou’s going to pitch Marmol a lot. We know this. Or should by now. But if you want to get pissy thats fine. I’m just having a hard time getting worked up about it.
Last summer my buddy bought a 6pack of that, both of us never having one. It was so bad that when I moved out of the apartment, 3 months after buying that certain beer, 4 were still left over.
the numbers are piling up…..but I have faith in Lou. He’s not Dusty. It seems to me he’s trying to build up marmol’s endurance. If you look at Marmol’s outings, most of them are under 20 pitches. That’s no more than a warmup session.
My hometown is only about 30-40 min away from West Lafayette. I worked there two summers for some bed loft company installing lofts for people. Meredith Hall is WEIRD.
The Owen building manager is INTENSE. He wasn't helpful at all and like hung over us to see if we would barely scratch the floor carrying those heavy beds.
My actual first choice was USC (Cal, not Carolina), but my loving mother refused because it was too far away. So I went to Northwestern, where the two student bodies can’t possibly be more different in their approaches to athletics…
because my dad went there. I got into the Engineering program and realized I hated it. Heh, then went into history and then got my paralegal cert. Now I wanna go to law school, just am trying to finish up stuff and save up some money.
I wonder if Northwestern even knows they ahve althletics… you wouldn’t think so by the way they are.
Well, there's a small contingent that is REALLY passionate about the teams.
It’s just that’s a small number of the student population as a whole. It is kinda cool that you have a really good chance of seeing the athletes around campus, at parties, living in your dorm, etc.
I’ve had classes with a Northwestern QB-WR, one of the best DTs in the country, a two-time winner of lacrosse’s answer to the Heisman Trophy, about half of the baseball team, the starting strong safety, and a running back or two. Oh and a couple basketball players. And my friend lived with about 5 members of the team in an off-campus house, so I got to hang out with them there too.
Then of course, there’s the radio…but most students don’t interview them as part of the media. The point is, they’re pretty visible and accessible.
A save is a statistic credited to a relief pitcher, as set forth in this Rule 10.19.
The official scorer shall credit a pitcher with a save when such pitcher meets all four of the following conditions:
(a) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his team; (b) He is not the winning pitcher; (c) He is credited with at least â…“ of an inning pitched; and (d) He satisfies one of the following conditions: (1) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; (2) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batters he faces); or (3) He pitches for at least three innings.
Its sad that some idiots would boo him if he sang the 7th inning stretch an actual CUBS fan from childhood who frequents the park and we had Tony Romo a SOX fan who plays for the COWBOYS sing.
well I honestly think he could be a pretty decent quarterback
except people like to bash the guy instead of letting him mature. I mean 2006 was really his rookie season if you think about it sense he didn’t play that much the previous three
I had a bad feeling he’d leave after last offseason to Detroit or Minnesota both places he’d upgrade their QB situation and beat us twice a year while Orton sucked butt.
Have company so glanced through the posts. Yadier Molina was taken to the hospital after a collision at the plate today. Has anyone heard an update to his condition? He was braced and taken off on a stretcher and was not moving when he left. It is a scary thing, a neck injury. HAS ANYONE HEARD AN UPDATE on his condition? All I found is a very short article on the play….
third!
huh?

puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
Or sneak him onto a plane to Tampa.
northsider - June 15, 2008
We should send him to Dick Cheney's

we're winning by 6. Things got a little dicey

halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
Why should he chill
you have a 6 run lead if you can’t trust this other guys in the pen, they shouldn’t be there.
TheRamZamDLEE - June 15, 2008
Theres no point in getting pissed
Lou’s going to pitch Marmol a lot. We know this. Or should by now. But if you want to get pissy thats fine. I’m just having a hard time getting worked up about it.

My best friend calls me half blind cause blind in one eye can sorta see in the other. :-P
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
Chill?
There is NO REASON WHATSOEVER for Marmol to have been put in today with a 6 run lead. That’s how you lose in September.

I don't yell at people.

They'll get plenty of rest tomorrow

the numbers are piling up…..but I have faith in Lou. He’s not Dusty. It seems to me he’s trying to build up marmol’s endurance. If you look at Marmol’s outings, most of them are under 20 pitches. That’s no more than a warmup session.

I'm nursing a pretty bad hangover right now.
I, apparently, yacked on the right side of my shirt last night, and in the back of my buddys car.
But last night was awesome. I’d change nothing.
NittanyCub - June 15, 2008
Sleeping. lol. I forgot about all this 12:07p business.
northsider - June 15, 2008
It's part of the Canuckian plot to take over the world.
I don’t trust those people at all.
[tongue in cheek]
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
yeah
Noon is weird. Especially after all those night games on the west coast!
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
Reminds me of
those Big10 football games that kickoff around 10 a.m. WTF!?
Reddevil - June 15, 2008
Because that's the only way to get people to watch Big 10 football
And it’s so slow, it takes until 5 p.m. to finish the game.
I’m an SEC fan…I could on like this forever.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
Go Gators!
Griff5479 - June 15, 2008
Those were fun on campus
Start tailgating with the marching band at 7 and then go to the game… and STILL have the rest of the day afterward to do stuff
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
Must be nice to go to a school where the student body actually cares about sports.
northsider - June 15, 2008
Boiler up!
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
Purdue? Really?
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
yep
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
I don't know whether to say sorry or what
J/K…They’re usually not really bad…sort of like South Carolina, actually…
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
BOOOOOOOOOOOO. lol
My hometown is only about 30-40 min away from West Lafayette. I worked there two summers for some bed loft company installing lofts for people. Meredith Hall is WEIRD.
northsider - June 15, 2008
I hated Meredith
I lived in Owen and on Hilltop. :-)
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
The Owen building manager is INTENSE. He wasn't helpful at all and like hung over us to see if we would barely scratch the floor carrying those heavy beds.
northsider - June 15, 2008
Ha. Yeah. I met him once
he was… odd.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
lol.
My actual first choice was USC (Cal, not Carolina), but my loving mother refused because it was too far away. So I went to Northwestern, where the two student bodies can’t possibly be more different in their approaches to athletics…
northsider - June 15, 2008
Hey, at least you gave us credit
For being a USC. Most folks don’t.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
Most people around my hometown thought I meant Carolina when I said USC, so I just started making the distinction.
(I’m from east-central Illinois)
northsider - June 15, 2008
That's weird.
Usually only happens in Georgia-SC-NC area.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
I went to Purdue
because my dad went there. I got into the Engineering program and realized I hated it. Heh, then went into history and then got my paralegal cert. Now I wanna go to law school, just am trying to finish up stuff and save up some money.
I wonder if Northwestern even knows they ahve althletics… you wouldn’t think so by the way they are.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
Well, there's a small contingent that is REALLY passionate about the teams.
It’s just that’s a small number of the student population as a whole. It is kinda cool that you have a really good chance of seeing the athletes around campus, at parties, living in your dorm, etc.
northsider - June 15, 2008
Thats cool.
You don’t see many of the guys around West Laf. Unless you go to Harry’s or something, but I wasn’t into that.
I did meet Kyle Orton. WE had the same physical therapist after I had reconstructive shoulder surgery.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
Yeah, over the course of my time here
I’ve had classes with a Northwestern QB-WR, one of the best DTs in the country, a two-time winner of lacrosse’s answer to the Heisman Trophy, about half of the baseball team, the starting strong safety, and a running back or two. Oh and a couple basketball players. And my friend lived with about 5 members of the team in an off-campus house, so I got to hang out with them there too.
Then of course, there’s the radio…but most students don’t interview them as part of the media. The point is, they’re pretty visible and accessible.
northsider - June 15, 2008
thats neat.
:-)
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
Hey! Norhwestern had a good team
Once.
At least you’re not Northeastern, the new rent-a-rout.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
We rented that rout once...
northsider - June 15, 2008
But this upcoming season looks to be a pretty promising one for the football team.
Who knows.
northsider - June 15, 2008
Good luck to you
I like rooting for the non-traditional powers in most conferences. A feeling of kinship, I guess.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
Go Badgers!
Madison Cub Fan - June 15, 2008
U-Rah-Rah!
Shanghai Badger - June 15, 2008
GO HAWKS!!
sue369 - June 15, 2008
Iowa is in the Big Ten?
Oh yeah, almost forgot.
Whoops.
NittanyCub - June 15, 2008
Go Gators! (again)
Griff5479 - June 15, 2008
You know what, Gators are pretty awesome
They should change the Buckeye’s college name to Florida’s Bitty University
NittanyCub - June 15, 2008
But I do
Reddevil - June 15, 2008
Single up the middle. 1 on, nobody out in the 9th.
northsider - June 15, 2008
atleast he didn't hit him
Chanman25 - June 15, 2008

Fukumania - June 15, 2008

sue369 - June 15, 2008
bravo!
Emelie - June 15, 2008
thank you :-D
sue369 - June 15, 2008
Might have gotten a break there
But I’m not complaining
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
I'll take it
TheRamZamDLEE - June 15, 2008
GREAT play by DeRosa!
1 out, Gibbons coming out to argue!
Fukumania - June 15, 2008

That ump looks like Z
Emelie - June 15, 2008

Chanman25 - June 15, 2008
Question for the rulebook knowers among us
can a closer CREATE a save situation? If he comes on in a non save situation, and blows it down to one run does he get a save?
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
No.
northsider - June 15, 2008
no
LAcarl519 - June 15, 2008
What he said.
Fukumania - June 15, 2008
You can create a save situation.
Just not for yourself.
cwyers - June 15, 2008
so you bring in another pitcher
and he gets a save if the tying run is on deck? is that how it goes?
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
on base, on deck, at bat or it's a 3-run lead or less
Shanghai Badger - June 15, 2008
Okay.
Thanks for clearing that up! :-)
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
no problem!
Shanghai Badger - June 15, 2008
10.19 SAVES FOR RELIEF PITCHERS
cwyers - June 15, 2008
He was safe as hell.
LOL
Fukumania - June 15, 2008
Hell isn't very safe.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
pay back
for the half dozen bad calls against us at first in the last two weeks.
LAcarl519 - June 15, 2008
Questionable call
goes in our favor?! This is the weirdest year ever.
Reddevil - June 15, 2008
IMO
It wasn’t that questionable, that was a bad call.
Fukumania - June 15, 2008
Yeah. An atrocious call. But again, not complaining
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
It turns out that real people can't watch plays from multiple angles...
...and in slow motion with freeze-frame capabilities unassisted on a baseball field. True story!
cwyers - June 15, 2008
That was horrible, though
I mean, that’s a standard call and he blew it.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
This is why I welcome our computerized overlords.
cwyers - June 15, 2008
You mean
big brother?
Reddevil - June 15, 2008
I mean applying the rules correctly and fairly...
...in as many situations as possible, without slowing down the game any more than it already is.
cwyers - June 15, 2008
Unecessary.
Fukumania - June 15, 2008
It was def the wrong call.
But I wouldn’t say it was a “bad” call. he he.
Reddevil - June 15, 2008
Single to LF, runners at the corners, 1 out. Come on Wood.
northsider - June 15, 2008
Woody isn't exactly being dominating
but a double play ends it here, so…
drewishdrewid - June 15, 2008
Ump's really sqeezing Woody.
Fukumania - June 15, 2008
too obvious . . .
Shanghai Badger - June 15, 2008
twss
Chanman25 - June 15, 2008
Fly ball to Kosuke, sac fly. 7-4.
northsider - June 15, 2008

Reddevil - June 15, 2008
sac fly
RightFieldSucks - June 15, 2008
that's two!
drewishdrewid - June 15, 2008
This hasn't been very impressive by the bullpen today
nji232 - June 15, 2008
Ugh I hate that color on baseball uniforms

sue369 - June 15, 2008
I think it's funny how EVERY GAME this gets posted, everybody posts how much they love it.
He has that kind of power over people, I guess. I’m jealous…
northsider - June 15, 2008
he's an everyman.
drewishdrewid - June 15, 2008
Yep
sue369 - June 15, 2008
Cubs win
Ugh. Let the bullpen rest tomorrow.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
well, Wood
Shanghai Badger - June 15, 2008
whoops
needs to pitch every once in a while to stay sharp
Shanghai Badger - June 15, 2008
the whole team is going to rest tomorrow.
tomorrow doesn’t matter.
drewishdrewid - June 15, 2008
but but.....
we have to show respect! ;-)
TheRamZamDLEE - June 15, 2008
Yes, because it's a meaningless exhibition game
Being played by a team trying to break a 100-year championless streak
Why would we take it slow?
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
respect doesn't mean
pitching anyone important. It might mean getting to the park on time. :D
drewishdrewid - June 15, 2008
They should boycott on account of Santo being denied entrance.
cwyers - June 15, 2008
Better yet, just not put anyone at third base.
cwyers - June 15, 2008
Woody wrote an article for ESPN magazine
making Santo’s case for the HOF. I ahven’t read it yet, but Santo said that it was really sweet of him.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
TWENTY!
over .500
Reddevil - June 15, 2008
Is anyone going to watch the game tomrorrow?
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
If its a cubs game...
I’m watching.
Reddevil - June 15, 2008
Yes
Not too much into it though.
mondello58 - June 15, 2008
I might
sue369 - June 15, 2008
It would be nice to see some of the prospects in action.
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
Nope.
Work. I might keep an eye on Gamecast. Maybe.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
I thought I heard Chicago’s best Wide Receiver was going to play tomorrow is that true?
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
Possible.
With AAA being shut down it’s hard to find innings for everyone, if nothing else.
cwyers - June 15, 2008
Hester?
northsider - June 15, 2008
Samardzija.
cwyers - June 15, 2008
thank god
that would have been bad to see Marty Booker pitching!
Chanman25 - June 15, 2008
better yet, make Grossman a pitcher
He can throw the ball well toward the other team
Chanman25 - June 15, 2008
Sad thing is he’s the best QB we’ve had since Kramer.
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
at least he wouldn't have to try to see over his O-line!
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
They might have to have some defenders tackle him within 1 second to make him feel at home.
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
Its sad that some idiots would boo him if he sang the 7th inning stretch an actual CUBS fan from childhood who frequents the park and we had Tony Romo a SOX fan who plays for the COWBOYS sing.
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
he was booed as well
TheRamZamDLEE - June 15, 2008
He was awful. The Cubs won the game I was at that Grossman sang at and did a good job.
We sat in front of him and his wife at a game a few years ago. He is a fan. He really knows the game and the team.
And his wife is very pretty.
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
well I honestly think he could be a pretty decent quarterback
except people like to bash the guy instead of letting him mature. I mean 2006 was really his rookie season if you think about it sense he didn’t play that much the previous three
Chanman25 - June 15, 2008
I had a bad feeling he’d leave after last offseason to Detroit or Minnesota both places he’d upgrade their QB situation and beat us twice a year while Orton sucked butt.
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
I maintain that Samardzija is better than any of the Bears WR.
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
I was making a crack about the Bears WR corps more than anything.
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
Game thread
Will Al have one?
mondello58 - June 15, 2008
As far as the HOF game goes why not just have an exhibition the weekend before the season goes?
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
Is WGN Radio broadcasting it?
I know WGN “America”is, but is radio doing it?
cubswgnrocks - June 15, 2008
I don’t think so.
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
Because that would make too much sense for Selig to do it.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
Winning series' on the road is always a GOOD thing! Nice job Cubbies!
VolPowers - June 15, 2008
When was the last time the Cubs were 20 over 500? I’m thinking 1989?
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
2004
here ya go
NittanyCub - June 15, 2008
I know it’s my fault for the Samardzija joke but does anyone know who is going to be called up to play tomorrow?
It might affect whether or not I watch it because if some of the top guys are playing it might be interesting to see.
puckishcubsfan - June 15, 2008
Rookie ball players, mostly, I believe.
I wouldn’t expect to see anyone who’s ever going to make the majors.
cwyers - June 15, 2008
Clarification.
Not saying it won’t happen. Just don’t expect it.
cwyers - June 15, 2008
Whats going on with the Cards game?
have they lost yet?//
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008

northsider - June 15, 2008
D'oh.
Okay. Now I feel stupid.
cocknfire - June 15, 2008
Sure you can.
You just have to write them in as a position player.
cwyers - June 15, 2008
Okay I'm off to enjoy some sunshine
before the rain comes.
Hope y’all have a great day!!!
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 15, 2008
You too!
northsider - June 15, 2008
Oops!
WGN’s graphic for tomorrow’s game said “Wrigley Field”. I bet they have an automatic template that puts “Wrigley Field” in whenever the Cubs are home.

I really hate this years Cubs schedule. I would rather face the Cards more than the Pirates. I really want to end the dead birds misery :D
Geo4MVP - June 15, 2008
Hi folks,
Have company so glanced through the posts. All I found is a very short article on the play….
crazymountain - June 15, 2008
Just did a quick GWS
a found nothing more explicit than what you stated. Didn’t see it, but that’s very scary nonetheless. I wish him well.
