Waiting...
The line for the bleachers on Sheffield at 9:45 am Saturday

It's crowded out here!
Fans allowed in the CF section normally reserved for wheelchairs to alleviate crowding

Safe!
Eric Patterson scores the Cubs' first run on Aramis Ramirez' single in the 1st. (In bottom of frame, note Orlando Cabrera about to take a relay throw)

Great catch!
Kosuke Fukudome makes a diving catch of Cabrera's sinking line drive

Sit down, Ozzie. No, really. SIT DOWN!
Ozzie Guillen argues with plate umpire Mike DiMuro. Note in particular the reaction of the fans in the seats behind.

Got to get this guy back on track!

Awsome pictures of an amazing game!

I can only imagine what it’s like to actually be there to experience it.

More Pictures?

I agree the pictures from the 6/21 game are great. I would love to see more and relive it since I was there. Are there any additional pics that can be shared?
Thanks,

Love the Ozzie pic

what a tool.

+1

What was that about anyway? I thought you couldn’t argue balls and stikes.

You can't, and...

... that’s probably what DiMuro was telling him.

you could read the ump's lips

and he said “don’t talk to me about pitches”. I can’t believe he didn’t get tossed

Does the Sun Times normally link to stories here?

I was reading the Rick Telander item and noticed a link at the end to yesterdays recap here. Shows you how long its been since I have read the ST…

Really?

That’s way cool!

Yes it was cool

Somebody must be doing something right around here lol. Good job Al…

I noticed that too.

Maybe Telander reads BCB? He seems like a pretty knowledgeable sportswriter.

I looks like

an automatic search program that the Sun-Times has installed that links to related blog posts. It doesn’t look like anything someone put there deliberately.

Nice to have David with us in CF yesterday!

You may be good luck out there David!

Wow!

I love them as always!

Given our discussion in the game threads

comparing White Sox and Cubs TV coverage, this article in today’s Tribune is a fun take on the differences. Hawk’s utter and prolonged silence at the end of Game 1 will certainly make it onto my personal highlight reel.

As Al will attest, with the new field the Cubs have played more than a few games through pounding rain. They may well have to do that again tonight—either that or this may be our first rain out of the season. We’ve got a load of thunderstorms passing through. It’s only going to get worse as the day progresses.

I hope we play. The thought of a Sox sweep is just too delicious.

The silence by Hawk...

... at the end of Friday’s Sox telecast sounded EXACTLY like the way Bob Uecker called A-Ram’s walkoff vs. the Brewers last year.

How else could you call it if you’re the losing team?

"I gone"

;-)

The line for the bleachers on Sheffield for Friday's game...

...was the longest I’d ever seen. Went down Sheffield, all the way to Addison, took a right hand turn and went down Addison towards Clark. The end of it was even with just past the Starbucks across the street. Un*believable…

Agreed.

That’s definitely the longest lines I have ever seen, too.

just wait until October comes around ;-)
But then...

... you don’t have to line up as all postseason seats are reserved…

I stand corrected - the line tonight was the longest I've ever seen.

Same thing – all the way down Sheffield and right turn onto Addison towards Clark. Only this time, it went past Starbucks… past the shuttered up souvenir store… past the alley… past Luis’ Body Shop…

The end of the line was almost to Gate E – that little side door entrance/exit to the infirmary. And the most amazing thing is, this was at 5:30 – the gates had been open almost a half hour!

Holy crap!!!

Mostly Cub fans or a mix?

Mostly Cub fans.

And ballhawk is right. The Sunday line was longer than the Saturday line—probably because a lot of those people had been hanging around the neighborhood all day. The line on Waveland was past Clark St.

Hey Al, do you think they'll get the game in tonight?

Weather is not looking good at all.

It would suck is the game is postponed

Then I wonder how would they make up the game. They can’t play a double header in the Cell because Wrigley Field would just lose money. They probably would have to make up the game tommorow, but let’s hope the rain isnt severe.

IF, and that's a big IF, the game is rained out...

they could make it up next weekend – do a day/night doubleheader thing. Seeing as how the Sunday game is already the ESPN Sunday Night game, they could play a day game at Wrigley – start it at 12:05. Then the Cubs and Sox would hop on a chartered CTA Red Line train car or two and head south to 35th St. for the night game at the Cell.

But as today goes on, the weather picture is getting clearer and clearer, so I think they’ll get ‘er in tonight.

I was just going to ask the exact same thing.
Weather...

... right now, it’s totally clear in Chicago. Rained hard for about 20 minutes earlier this morning.

Most of the heavy rain is east of Chicago at the moment. It’ll be scattered rain around much of the day like yesterday. You know they’ll wait forever to get this one in.

Cool thanks for the update. .

Heading to a cubs game bbq later on tonight so we were curious.

For a second there...

I thought you were going to say they were herding the Sox fans into the wheelchair area and locking them… that would seem to be a good idea :-)

Weather fine here but it is only 130. Usually weather hits me about 15-20 before Wrigley so what the weather is now has nothing to do with what it will be at Wrigley at 7.

Bringing an umbrella just in case. And probably a light jacket since temps tend to drop after the rain.

Cards red sox heading to bottom 5 no score

bill hall homer ties it in milwaukee, 3-3 bottom 5

Boston 3 STL 2 bottom 9 2 out
Bleacher line

Proud to say I was #1 in the line on Sheffield. What a great game!
