More ways to relive the weekend!
The bleacher line at 4:45 pm Sunday. This line began at Sheffield & Waveland, down to Addison, then west on Addison to this point, halfway to Clark. The line on the Waveland side was just as long.

Great pics
The bleacher line is obnoxiousssssssssssss
Hammer - June 23, 2008
Well, they all did eventually get in.
Al Yellon - June 23, 2008
I know, its just crazy though
Honestly, since they started getting crazy about searching everything and such it probably took them forever to get in.
Shheeees, I love sitting in the bleachers but this is why I normally buy them for low priority games.
Hammer - June 23, 2008
Thank you
Al thanks for the tip you posted a few weeks ago about the extra security in the bleacher area. We arrived early and instead of my usual purse which is a humongous bag I carried my small party purse with the essentials. I felt a little silly carrying a party purse to a baseball game but didn’t have to go through a ton of extra stuff.
I should say I think it was you. Someone posted it a few weeks ago.
puckishcubsfan - June 23, 2008
Hey Al (or whomever was in the bleachers last night)...
...how did YOU get into the bleachers? Wait in line like everyone else or are there other methods? Living out of state n all, the only few times I’ve made it to Wrigley, I’ve never had the opportunity to sit in the bleachers…
Dan
dtpollitt - June 23, 2008
he uses the zip line
from the secret BCB-cave below the Yellon mansion on the outskirts of the city.
drewishdrewid - June 23, 2008
Al will correct me if I'm wrong...
... but there are three entrances. Two at the corner of Waveland & Sheffield and another along Waveland just for Season Ticket holders. They get to go in a bit earlier (not sure how much earlier) and grab seats.
One thing since the redesign that I do, is once I get in I head towards the side staircases beyond the lower level concession stands. Take that up and get the needed seats. People spend too much time going thru the main way up that it all backs up.
Yesterday for instance I got in the Waveland line back past the player’s lot, almost on Clark. And we had no problems finding seats in the Left Field bleachers once we got in. We were the only ones using the other staircase, I was very surprised.
McCarron - June 23, 2008
Agreed, the ramp is a bad way to go.
Hammer - June 23, 2008
Good idea on the stairs.
Yes, there is a season ticket holder entrance, they allow us a 5-minute head start. The idea is, we have bought a season ticket (full season). Every other season ticket holder gets the same seat for every game. The head start is so that we can choose our own seats.
For what we pay, that’s not an unreasonable perk.
Al Yellon - June 23, 2008
Thanks for the info
Al I always wondered if season tickets in the bleachers are assigned.
How many bleacher season tickets are there approximately and how long have you had them?
puckishcubsfan - June 23, 2008
Thanks, that good info that I didn't know!
dtpollitt - June 24, 2008
Awesome pics as usual!
And wow: Those Ws in the last one are perfectly spaced apart.
daver - June 23, 2008
you've probably noticed by now
(or you knew this to begin with and your comment has a large dosage of sarcasm that I am not reading) but the perfect spacing is due to the fact that those flags are on the electronic display board underneath the scoreboard.
gwood - June 23, 2008
D'OH!
Well, I could save face here and say I was being sarcastic. But I honestly didn’t look at that picture closely enough to realize those were electronic W flags, not the real thing.
I tell ya, these new-fangled ballparks and their high-tech thingamabobs…
daver - June 24, 2008
Don't feel bad.
It took me a while to figure that out too.
sue369 - June 24, 2008
Pictures
As always great pictures.
The weekend was a blast, Every game it’s building this is a very special season on the north side of Chicago.
A lot of dramatic wins, a team full of guys you can’t help but like and not just because they’re Cubs, a manager who knows his butt from a hole in the ground a GM we can feel confident will swing a trade when needed and a rocking atmosphere at the Friendly Confines.
puckishcubsfan - June 23, 2008
I Was In The Waveland Line...
... and had a great shot of Al’s group under an umbrella while we were out in the line getting rained on. But I accidentally wiped my iPhone software this AM before saving the photos. I had other great photos too of the game, all gone because I hadn’t had my coffee yet.
McCarron - June 23, 2008
That was an unbelievably long line!
When did you get in?
Al Yellon - June 23, 2008
About 4:55PM...
or a bit after. We were at that corner where the photo was taken just before 5pm, and then booked it to the Waveland side which is usually shorter in our experience.
McCarron - June 23, 2008
You must mean 5:55...
... they weren’t open yet at 4:55!
Al Yellon - June 24, 2008
Edmonds gets no hang time
Look at that picture, good thing he can hit and field .
Picture would be great on “What the hell are these guys doing” type of site
parrotinct - June 23, 2008
I think he's already come down.
Hell, EPatt looks like he’s dancing a jig.
neverAcquiesce - June 23, 2008
You're right
Edmonds had already landed, but I sent this photo since their legs are spread out in a fan like shape. Al had already posted my photos where they were all in midair. Lay off of Edmonds! Wow, did I just say that?
David Sameshima - June 23, 2008
Looks more like Mo, Larry and Curley...
tough to choreograph a new guy and a guy with a bum foot.
cubfever7 - June 23, 2008
The pics are great ....
Wish I could be there in person !!!
Basman - June 23, 2008
Felix Pie??
Time to bring back Pie with the Cubs cruising and a nice lead in the NL Central? I say play him for 20-25 games to at least get in the groove. After all, he is our CF of the future!
ronsanto10 - June 23, 2008
who sits
when he’s playing? Technically, Edmonds was his replacement. I want to see Pie back too, but…
drewishdrewid - June 23, 2008
Patterson or Murton sits.
ronsanto10 - June 23, 2008
so you'd put Pie
in Left?
It’s irrelevant now, unfortunately—Pie’s in Mesa for an MRI on his hand.
drewishdrewid - June 23, 2008
Not yet...let him continue to build on consistency and confidence
And besides, Patterson deserves a chance to play LF. Don’t worry, Pie will be back by September. He will get some at bats and will have his chance to show whether or not he can handle ML pitching. He is still is in the Cubs plans to become the CF, but he will get his best chance next year.
If not, then the Cubs might have to see what Colvin has to offer, but so far he has been struggling mightily. He has poor plate discipline and needs to learn to take more walks. Lets just say he is in the same boat as Pie, but has a lot more to learn about hitting than Pie.
Geo4MVP - June 23, 2008
Pie hurt
Some kind of swing injury. MRI yesterday or to day.
cubbierc - June 24, 2008
As Dick Buckley would say: Happiness!
Emelie - June 23, 2008
The outfielder win bump
reminds me of the goddess Darga
Emelie - June 23, 2008
LOL, I was thinkin' the same thing..
...but couldn’t figure out a way to express the thought. Nice job!
daver - June 24, 2008
It's an offday, so let's change the subject a little bit.
I don’t know if it’s okay to talk about other sports on this site, but I thought it’d be okay since it is an off day. Who do you guys have the bulls picking with the number 1 pick? I personally think we should pick the hometown favorite and select rose, as we already have two very good power forwards in Drew Gooden and Tyrus thomas. I think the bulls should try to make a very serious attempt at moving Heinrich, luol deng, and maybe even ben gordon. What do you guys think? The Draft is this thursday and I’m interested to see what Paxton will do.
aznsensation - June 23, 2008
if you want this to become a real discussion
post a fanpost with something like “OT: Bulls Draft” in the subject line so that people will see it.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 23, 2008
Off day box score fun
King Felix goes YARD on Johan and hits a grannie. Who says AL pitchers can’t
hit. Now see if Wong had hit a home run he would not have had to run the bases , he could
have trotted around.
Doggie Stalker - June 23, 2008
That is absolutely incredible
Was he much of a hitter the last few years… when he was in high school, I guess?
Brett Taylor - June 23, 2008
1st. home run by a pitcher in Mariners history.
and first granny by an AL pitcher in 37 years.
Bump Bailey - June 23, 2008
Yikes
He is out after 38 pitches. No idea what happened. Trust he did not hurt himself trotting
around the bases
Doggie Stalker - June 23, 2008
King Felix left due to an apprent leg injury
That is according to yahoo sports.
Geo4MVP - June 23, 2008
He sprained an ankle
covering first on a play.
bubbamike the one and only - June 23, 2008
This is why we need a designated FIELDER
for those poor pitchers. They should have to worry about fielding and running.
Doggie Stalker - June 23, 2008
I designate Cecil as Designated Fielder
bubbamike the one and only - June 23, 2008
Love your sig line bubbamkie..
Nice homage to George Carlin.
Bump Bailey - June 23, 2008
It was covering home..

The dead Brian Roberts trade
Just dug up information (www.mlbtraderumors.com) on who Hendry offered for the all-star 2B Roberts. Apparently, he offered Veal, Cedeno, and Gallagher. Wow, Gallagher for Roberts let along would have been a rip off. Haha, as the old saying goes “the best trades are ones you don’t do…” or something like that.
However, I am not downplaying Roberts to be a mediocre 2B. Actually, here are his stats amongst all the 2B…
4th in OPS
5th in Runs scored,
1st in SB,
1st in doubles
1st in Walks
(I got these stats from a post on www.mlbtraderumors.com and apparently they are correct).

Sabathia trade rumors
I didn’t realize this, but apparently the Indians are not out of the race yet. It’s only June and the Indians are only 6.5 games back of the Sox. I think it’s safe to say that Sabathia is not officially available on the market yet.
Geo4MVP - June 23, 2008
Sabathia demands
Wow…he wants a Santana like contract. Good luck to the Indians…
Geo4MVP - June 23, 2008
I think contracts like that are going to be a thing of the past.
CC may be surprised if he tests the free agent market.
Al Yellon - June 24, 2008
Interesting thought AL
I saw Baseball Tonight last night and Buck Showalter was talking about Texeiria being a free agent after this year and the size of the contract he would command.
Showalter’s point was that there were certain players the Union singled out every year to set the standard for future contracts.
Showalter seemed to think that Tex would get a larger contract because of this.
AlabamaCubFan - June 24, 2008
well
and he has boras as his agent, which means he’ll want a shorter deal with more money.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 24, 2008
what kind of camera do you use for these pictures?
Chanman25 - June 23, 2008
For you gearheads
I use a digital SLR camera for the game photos. Sorry to disappoint the techies out there, but I use an older generation Nikon D70S. It ain’t state of the art, but it has been troublefree. Same goes for the lens. It is an older generation Nikkor 70-300mm AF lens. For anyone in the market, I would definitely recommend the newer AF-S version ot this lens. It focuses much faster than mine. It is a carryover from the 35mm film era, where I am from.
For the non-telephoto “grab” shots, I use an older Fuji E900 camera. It was unusual in that it was a compact camera that featured many manual controls. It also has a relatively short shutter lag delay, compared to other compact cameras. Unfortunately, Fuji never replaced it Consumer wanted smaller cameras, and didn’t care about having manual controls. It does take amazing photos, if you know how to use it.
David Sameshima - June 24, 2008
These are AWESOME, David. This is a great vantage point for you, methinks, in center field.
I always enjoy the detailed telephoto ones especially.
