Save the prospects for something more important, such as a SP. Roberts is an all star 2B, but I don’t think Hendry is interested in replacing Derosa as of right now.
where I could get the shirt with the cub logo under the rib cage bones. They kept showing some guy wearing it after the Edmonds home run and its pretty bad ass.
i saw some girl selling it on the way to the addison stop, coming from wrigley. i’d guess cubworld + wrigleyvillesports will pick it up soon if it’s not there yet.
We are all now dumber for having witnessed that… at no point, in your incoherant, senseless maneuvering did you come anywhere close to an intelligent baseball thought… I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul
He’s pulling off with his head, his hands are out of whack with his stride, and he’s letting go with his top hand too early. He has no shot a driving a pitch right now.
they had no business not getting one across the plate..
i understand we maybe shouldn’t have won, but they had bases loaded no out and leave them out there. Sad way to end the game. . Oh well, get them tomorrow.
CEDENO sucks. he had a nice three weeks to start the year. I hope Lou finally realizes this. I hope we can trade this life-time utility dude for something.
Horrible, disappointing end to the game. The key at-bat was Cedeno’s – he had no business swinging at those pitches around his shoulders. Really looked like a greenhorn rookie out there. And that seemed to put added pressure on Fukudome and Blanco, that they had to be the hero and make up for Ronnie’s poor at bat.
can be attributed to having good, patient at-bats and not getting themselves out. Really mystifying how they reverted to having nervous, “oh my god I hope I don’t K” swings out of Cedeno, Fukudome, and Blanco.
Without a doubt, those were the three worst at-bats of the season, in a row...
Oh well, I guess you can’t win them all….it just seemed like it! Great winning streak, let’s show up focused and ready to play tomorrow and start a new streak.
much better utility players out there then cedeno and I know we can get a better player than Murton. I’m just hoping that some of the people that want Cedeno to play so badly see what kind of player he really is. He really can’t hit. Tonight proved it even more. He had no business chasing those last to pitches
You’re absolutely right, Police, Patterson was the goat tonight. Although, the Cubs have to get over their tendency to swing from their heels everytime the bases are loaded. Nothing wrong with taking a few pitches with no one out, guys. Get ‘em tomorrow.
Well, how about this…if the Cubs can find a starter to replace Marquis, then we can send him along with Cotts and Hoffpauir for Winn. Therefore, the salary matches perfectly.
easy there big fella. The Indians don’t want Marquis and it would take more than E-Patt, Gallagher, Hoffpauir, and Cotts to get Sabathia. It would take Gallagher, E-Patt, and Veal to get him. Heck, even more possibly considering Shapiro wants ready talent for his team next year.
But it would take alot of talent to get Sabathia. There are teams with better talent than the Cubs and it’s going to take Hendry all his time and energy to get Sabathia.
he is NOT a power hitter, line drive doubles hitter….then they wanted him to hit for power…now he can’t hit at all…..man, talk about ruining a great swing!!!!
ruined career….I thought that, when he came to the Cubs, he would hit well for average, doubles hitter, a right handed bat with a sweet swing….but, after being told he had to hit for power, he just fell apart. Just another example of a kid losing a great career…..I know I have to spell this out….NOT a HOF career, just one where he would start, hit .300 and STICK…..
you actually think Cintron is any better? Wake up and look at his career! He’s not that good of a pinch hitter nor he is a better defensive player than Cedeno.
IF you mean Cedeno, look at the first of the year. Tonight he thought he should win it right there!!!! That is NOT Clu-less-do…..just trying too damn hard….he has been with the big team TOO long to know that it takes one hit to do it….he should have kept the bat on his shoulder until he had 2 strikes, is all…..he is NOT clueless though…..
but he makes a difference tonight because there is no way he tries to hustle to catch that ball that EPAT dropped. I guess that is a difference but not necessarily a positive one.
His spot never comes up in the 9th since Ryan makes the catch
or walk people. It will burn you almost everytime.
At this point, the only way this team loses lately is if they make mistakes in the field. Outside of the Kuroda Game, this team has made some sort of mental gaffe, error, or wildness that lead to run (s) that ended up being the difference in their losses.
I am not complaining…just saying that they would be in even better position if they were better defenders and walked a little less of the opposing tem
Fukodome’s. He’s been handled with sliders and big curveballs away after an inside pitch. Pitchers found a hole in that swing of his running away from home plate.
Cedeño’s luck ran out. He is showing who he really is.
Cintrón and Roberts came determined to show the Cubs what they could have done for the team.
The Cubs showed their talent coming from behind but also showed their holes in the last inning. Tomorrow is another day.
Kosuke really disappointed me on that last AB…..he should have known what was coming after strike 2….yet he swung (swang? swingded? swingled?) at a pitch that was a couple feet outside…
just pointing out a weakness…..Henry our last gasp? He is a great coach, NEEDS to be on this team….but as a last chance PH? Nope…..please understand that I think Henry is an intregal piece to this teams success…..WE NEED HENRY!!!! However, as a last AB PH, nope….
The problem is that with the injuries the bench is thin right now.
Especially after Lou sent a pinch hitter for Edmonds. With the full team that’s a good move. With a depleted bench that move left Lou with no options in the 9th and with a weaker defense in the OF in the 9th inning.
After Cedeño struck out we still had two more chances. Fukudome’s K took the sac fly out as a pressure maker and forced the next hitter to get a hit or lose.
But Fukudome K’s and we still lose, just by 1 run.
I’m worried that pitchers found Fukudome’s weakness, the only hole in his swing. He has to stay in the box when he’s pitched away if he wants to avoid those K’s.
It just seems that sometimes the Cubs fail with the bases loaded because they are overly agressive. They forget that all the pressure is on the pitcher and that they should just look for their pitch….
Idk why people are saying Hendry should have kept Cintron. His career OBP is 315; he’s not any better than Cedeno. Roberts would have been great obviously, but I would rather save the talent for pitching, not hitting.
I suppose, but Cedeno makes some doozies as errors. He air mailed a throw way over DLEE’s head (a tough feat) a couple weeks ago. I have also been at Wrigley last year when he called for a pop-up in the infield, and dropped it.
If this is any consolation, I don’t expect Cedeño to finish the season as a Cub. There is a very good chance he’s traded. However, he’s making sure the team won’t get much in return.
Derek Lee hitting so many grounders with runners on 1st. Cintrón’s inadequate defense bailed Lee once but Lee is an experienced hitter. He should know better. He’s swinging at the ground when he should be trying to elevate the ball.
I have pointed this out many times….Is he hurt? What is wrong? Even when he hits, the ball does not have the same crispness off the bat…...he has a good game, then a few bad ones…so, is something wrong with my favorite player, DLee?
Sad to say those years are looking more and more like anomolies
the big issue I have is how long we’re going to keep him in the 3 hole. We’ve been winning in spite of his poor clutch hitting but what happens if and when we start to slide a little bit. The #3 slot is supposed to be our best hitter and, I’m sorry, but these days Lee doesn’t qualify.
That he has not been very clutch. What I find most alarming is that pitchers are not afraid to pitch him. This usually causes himself to not get into hitters counts in those clutch situtations. When he does get the opportunity, he seems to always swing at pitchers pitches…
Clearly he’s having a huge problem here and it’s gotten around the league(s). It’s so obvious the way pitchers are exploiting him -I’m more worried about this than anything else right now. I don’t see Lee making adjustments and it’s consistently hurting us in the clutch. How much longer can we keep him hitting third?
He should be protected by the fact that ARAM bats behind him. You would think that he would see more strikes. Problem is he is not swinging at strikes. He is also taking a lot of good pitches and swing at pitchers pitches… Those are all just signs of a slump….
he’s fine physically. DLee isn’t a warrior type, so unfortunately he’s more prone than most to being distracted by outside influence. Perhaps with his daughter’s situation, his game isn’t what it could be, and it just might stay that way. Don’t be shocked to see Lou juggle the lineup some more this year.
I got to work just in time to watch the last couple of outs on gameday. I didn’t have the heart to listen to Ron’s heart break on the audio. Well, go get em tomorrow! I guess I mean later today.
First?
That Brian Roberts looks like a good player. I wonder if the Cubs could get him?

MiCubsFan - June 24, 2008

lswaidz - June 24, 2008
That was Clement I think
grifdog - June 24, 2008
i think you're right
i’ve learned to associate bad pitching memories w/ mark though
lswaidz - June 24, 2008

cocknfire - June 24, 2008

MiCubsFan - June 24, 2008

lswaidz - June 24, 2008

JB 23 - June 24, 2008
I don't like this move.
slcathena - June 24, 2008
remember when we were going after him too?
lets show him why we didn’t get him
Chanman25 - June 24, 2008
bad idea
what if we just tie it up? it’s a big bat out of the lineup in extras who has already proven he’s clutch
lswaidz - June 24, 2008
I mean sherrilll
Chanman25 - June 24, 2008
that was meant for the post about bringing cedeno in for aram... weird
lswaidz - June 24, 2008

miamicanes - June 24, 2008
Murton
batting…ugh
Manny Trillo - June 24, 2008

would’ve preferred Blanco. And that’s sad.
Matt Allison - June 24, 2008
WOW...murton
didnt edmonds HR off LHP the other day?
JCD - June 24, 2008
Edmonds doesnt hit lefties. But Murton?
californiachicagoan - June 24, 2008

Goat Whisperer - June 24, 2008
DL Back made room for Ward
miamicanes - June 24, 2008

West Coast Diehard - June 24, 2008
I thought he would go with RJ
californiachicagoan - June 24, 2008
DL
miamicanes - June 24, 2008

LAcarl519 - June 24, 2008
i hate murton
damn…
CubbyBlues - June 24, 2008
would have been happy with MM's singles power there
JCD - June 24, 2008
That was a very, very bad managerial move, Lou.
We are all now dumber for having witnessed that… at no point, in your incoherant, senseless maneuvering did you come anywhere close to an intelligent baseball thought… I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul
lswaidz - June 24, 2008
a simple wrong would have been ok
Chanman25 - June 24, 2008
nice catch ;-)
lswaidz - June 24, 2008
Lou right before the White Sox series gets hit by a ball on the bus
I’ll turn this DAMN bus around that will end your PRECIOUS little series pretty damn quick
Chanman25 - June 24, 2008
I agree..... I would've let Jimmy hit.... but then the Cubs have the best w-l in MLB
MiCubsFan - June 24, 2008
Yeah, Lou is such
an idiot. I’m sure that you can do better.
bubbamike the one and only - June 24, 2008
really poor decsion by Lou there...
now we have an even weaker OF D for the 9th….you need a veteran at the plate there not a AAA player.
JB 23 - June 24, 2008
If by veteran you mean Blanco.
You do NOT leave Edmonds in against the lefty
californiachicagoan - June 24, 2008
Murton's swing is revolting right now.
He looks awful at the plate, like he has no shot a driving the ball anywhere.
gary varsho - June 24, 2008
agreed!
VegasCubFan - June 24, 2008
He worked a decent AB, didnt he?
californiachicagoan - June 24, 2008
LOL, no
Did he drive any balls at all? OH WOW HE WORKED A FULL COUNT. LOLZ
paulucla - June 24, 2008
You understood what a good AB is.
californiachicagoan - June 24, 2008
He fouled off a few, but his swing is jacked.
He’s pulling off with his head, his hands are out of whack with his stride, and he’s letting go with his top hand too early. He has no shot a driving a pitch right now.
gary varsho - June 24, 2008
Murton
is not a ML pinch-hitter. They need to trade him as soon as possible, because there is zero chance of him ever starting regularly.
Matt Allison - June 24, 2008
I'm pretty sure they have been trying for quite some time...
If we don’t want him why would other mlb teams want him?
LT - June 24, 2008
4 hours
if it lasts longer that 4 hours, i’m calling to brag!
VegasCubFan - June 24, 2008
I'm at a total friggin'
loss. WHY WHY WHY.
Edmonds had a way better shot at that pitcher then Murton.
paulucla - June 24, 2008
Sherill has owned left handed hitters
Maybe that’s why?
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
don't think so , righties are hitting .190 of him, lefties .170
DC Cubbie - June 24, 2008
No he didnt.
Edmonds is hitting like .130 against lefties
californiachicagoan - June 24, 2008
and Matt Murton is a AAA player
JB 23 - June 24, 2008
Should we start another OT thread ... this one's getting kind of slow
cocknfire - June 24, 2008
1 out!
MiCubsFan - June 24, 2008

OK...idk why you guys are complaining about subbing Edmonds in..
But Edmonds hasn’t done anything against left handed pitchers. Who else would you want in that situation? Fontenot? Blanco?

Marmol needs to stay toward the plate on his follow through
You see how he was able to get over much better balls when he wasn’t leaning left and ending on the left side of the mound.
I am sure the Pitching coaches identified that as part of his “sideways” part of the delivery.

Should have made him pitch to all of the last 3...
Just got nervous and need to understand the previous pitches.
mmancubfan - June 24, 2008
Nah -
Lots of “stones” on this team.
CEDENO sucks. he had a nice three weeks to start the year. I hope Lou finally realizes this. I hope we can trade this life-time utility dude for something.
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
Well put..
He isn’t a good player, maybe good at defense but he was hot earlier and that was all he had. I really hope he has some trade value
mkcubs21 - June 24, 2008
He can bring the "D"
but not consistently!
And, his baserunning – UGH!
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
all he is is a glove..
he’s a liability at the plate..
mkcubs21 - June 24, 2008
Three Bad At-Bats
Horrible, disappointing end to the game. The key at-bat was Cedeno’s – he had no business swinging at those pitches around his shoulders. Really looked like a greenhorn rookie out there. And that seemed to put added pressure on Fukudome and Blanco, that they had to be the hero and make up for Ronnie’s poor at bat.
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
Agreed
100%
The kid has TOTALLY reverted back to the clueless hitter he has mostly been.
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
Cubs Success To Date
can be attributed to having good, patient at-bats and not getting themselves out. Really mystifying how they reverted to having nervous, “oh my god I hope I don’t K” swings out of Cedeno, Fukudome, and Blanco.
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
Nice battle but still painful
They all of a sudden started helping Sherrill out by swinging at bad pitches
Mapmaker - June 24, 2008
Really.....
Rudey - June 24, 2008

Rudey - June 24, 2008
Without a doubt, those were the three worst at-bats of the season, in a row...
Oh well, I guess you can’t win them all….it just seemed like it! Great winning streak, let’s show up focused and ready to play tomorrow and start a new streak.
VolPowers - June 24, 2008
Typical Cubs...
...bases loaded, and don’t cash in. A huge weakness this year!
cubfan06 - June 24, 2008
Next Time
Maybe pull a page out of Don Zimmer’s book and send all three runners on a squeeze!
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
I am so sick
of waiting for Cedeno and Murton to be even decent players. PLEASE make them part of whatever deal we make to get a quality starter.
paulucla - June 24, 2008
There are...
much better utility players out there then cedeno and I know we can get a better player than Murton. I’m just hoping that some of the people that want Cedeno to play so badly see what kind of player he really is. He really can’t hit. Tonight proved it even more. He had no business chasing those last to pitches
mkcubs21 - June 24, 2008
That was interesting.
Oh well. Even the best team in baseball loses now and then. At least we can bet we don’t have to see Cedeno in that kind of situation again.
Matt Allison - June 24, 2008

West Coast Diehard - June 24, 2008
Dagnabbit
You’re absolutely right, Police, Patterson was the goat tonight. Although, the Cubs have to get over their tendency to swing from their heels everytime the bases are loaded. Nothing wrong with taking a few pitches with no one out, guys. Get ‘em tomorrow.
SplintChesthair - June 24, 2008
Checked the PBP
Did EPatt drop a ball in the 6th that opened the floodgates?
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
yep
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
OOOOF!
CBS Sporsline credited the hitter with a double instead of giving EPatt the error. Was it Theriot’s all the way?
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
He was camped under the can of corn
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
I hope the
people here refrain from using “ONEDEC” anymore.
The only thing he has turned around is himself as he whiffs once more.
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
Note to Cubbies
If facing Sherrill again. Make him throw you a strike (s). Make him throw you a second strike….
I don’t think he threw four strikes to the three batters with the bases loaded…...
mmancubfan - June 24, 2008
We Need Ward Back
Will he be activated for this series?
CaliCub - June 24, 2008

The E-Man - June 24, 2008

I ain’t no “kept man”! :-p
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
Actually, Alex Cintron
is proving to have been the blown call by Hendry.
He could have booted Cedeno, and kept Cintron for next to nothing!
ARRRRGGGHHH!
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
Dome's At Bat
I was hoping he’d take one for the team and let that inside pitch from Sherrill hit him. Maybe he could pull a Biggio and pad up the ol’ arm?
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
Well...
Since, It was lefty, I would say that would have been a good call. If it was a righty, I want him to avoid the pitch
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
So, onedec is cedeno again....
what a horrible AB!!!!
Marmol has corrected, it seems….
All in all, not a bad game…..Patterson shoulda kept his mouth shut, let Riot have the ball….
So, we win, save for a 2B playing LF…..
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Yeah
The irony in that is Soriano totally lets Ryan make that catch
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
Hurry Back Reed!
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
And Hoffpauir also......
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Or Maybe
Randy Winn can get here to catch those fly balls!
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
So, who do we give up for Winn, a 4th OF?
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
I say give up Hoffpauir and Cotts
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
Sounds good for me!!!
However, Winn is being paid a starter’s salary…. We can do better giving up those two….
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Hmmmm
Well, how about this…if the Cubs can find a starter to replace Marquis, then we can send him along with Cotts and Hoffpauir for Winn. Therefore, the salary matches perfectly.
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
Bad move.....
those three, along with a couple prospects, gets us CC
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Lmao....
easy there big fella.
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
WELL, I DID say a couple of prospects.....
So, knowing that we DO have the money to sign CC, is that a bad deal?
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Of course not!
But it would take alot of talent to get Sabathia. There are teams with better talent than the Cubs and it’s going to take Hendry all his time and energy to get Sabathia.
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
Wad is back
Ward took Hoffpauir’s place. The cubs would need a pinch hitting OF, but Murton will be up here till RJ returns.
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
Murton was ruined by the Baker boys....
he is NOT a power hitter, line drive doubles hitter….then they wanted him to hit for power…now he can’t hit at all…..man, talk about ruining a great swing!!!!
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Possibly
He has been tyring to go for the long ball too much. I prefer him to hit for singles, but what can ya say.
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
Well, I can say.....
ruined career….I thought that, when he came to the Cubs, he would hit well for average, doubles hitter, a right handed bat with a sweet swing….but, after being told he had to hit for power, he just fell apart. Just another example of a kid losing a great career…..I know I have to spell this out….NOT a HOF career, just one where he would start, hit .300 and STICK…..
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Just Like Kevin Orie
He was doing fine until Pentland f’ed with his swing in 98 and completely ruined him.
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
Total LoB?
Rudey - June 24, 2008
I know there are a lot of Soriano haters out there....
but, tonight’s game shows just how much we need him. Me? I am a Soriano fan, he just makes a difference…..
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
I wouldn't hold your breath
on Hoff-Power, until September.
BAsically, he can legitimately only play one position (as Al has pointed out): 1B.
And, he ain’t a better hitter than D.Ward who also plays the same position.
I am still burning that Hendry chose to keep Cedeno over Cintron.
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
Omg
you actually think Cintron is any better? Wake up and look at his career! He’s not that good of a pinch hitter nor he is a better defensive player than Cedeno.
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
Look at him THIS year
and indeed, he is more solid with the glove, does not over-run bases, and he makes less errors.
He has at least HAD a career, and not been as much of a bust as Clu-less-do.
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
Clu-less-do?
IF you mean Cedeno, look at the first of the year. Tonight he thought he should win it right there!!!! That is NOT Clu-less-do…..just trying too damn hard….he has been with the big team TOO long to know that it takes one hit to do it….he should have kept the bat on his shoulder until he had 2 strikes, is all…..he is NOT clueless though…..
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Yup
RC wasn’t exactly having a “team” at bat there. Tried to do it all himself and ended up K’ing badly.
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
I am not a hater
but he makes a difference tonight because there is no way he tries to hustle to catch that ball that EPAT dropped. I guess that is a difference but not necessarily a positive one.
His spot never comes up in the 9th since Ryan makes the catch
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
Wuertz messed up too
He gave up more hits after that play. The pen was also somewhat responsible for that huge deficit.
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
You just can't give them extra outs...
or walk people.
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
walks KILL! nuff said
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Well, Sori woulda known that Riot had the catch.....
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Key at bat in the 9th:
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
Another day is right.....
Kosuke really disappointed me on that last AB…..he should have known what was coming after strike 2….yet he swung (swang? swingded? swingled?) at a pitch that was a couple feet outside…
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Key at bat is Cedano
He has to force the guy to throw him a strike before he even swings. He was trying to win the game with one swing.
I doubt that we will see him in that situation anytime soon
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
Hopefully, you are right....
just shows that, besides a starter, we have a weak bench….
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
They just got beat...
but Lou is trying to keep the team treading water with key injuries…
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
I would not say that
I would say they beat themselves. They made mistakes in the field and the other team took advantage of them.
That is okay…it happens. But I would not say that they just got beat.
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
agreed, not cliff jumping here
just pointing out a weakness…..Henry our last gasp? He is a great coach, NEEDS to be on this team….but as a last chance PH? Nope…..please understand that I think Henry is an intregal piece to this teams success…..WE NEED HENRY!!!! However, as a last AB PH, nope….
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
This is where RJ was missed
If RJ was still here, it would have been him instead of Cedeno.
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
The problem is that with the injuries the bench is thin right now.
Especially after Lou sent a pinch hitter for Edmonds. With the full team that’s a good move. With a depleted bench that move left Lou with no options in the 9th and with a weaker defense in the OF in the 9th inning.
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
Edmonds shoulda hit.....
WOW! Look at me…..56 years old and calling Lou’s game with hindsight!!!! What a country!
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Not really. A DP could have been worse.
After Cedeño struck out we still had two more chances. Fukudome’s K took the sac fly out as a pressure maker and forced the next hitter to get a hit or lose.
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
I agree.....
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Ah...but see
if is of the 6-4-3 variety, than a run scores, a runner at third and Dome at the dish.
Same scenario just with Dome up
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
Interesting scenario.
But Fukudome K’s and we still lose, just by 1 run.
I’m worried that pitchers found Fukudome’s weakness, the only hole in his swing. He has to stay in the box when he’s pitched away if he wants to avoid those K’s.
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
In the end
I think he will be okay…
It just seems that sometimes the Cubs fail with the bases loaded because they are overly agressive. They forget that all the pressure is on the pitcher and that they should just look for their pitch….
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
Ok, Cintron freekin blows
Idk why people are saying Hendry should have kept Cintron. His career OBP is 315; he’s not any better than Cedeno. Roberts would have been great obviously, but I would rather save the talent for pitching, not hitting.
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
I agree on Cintrón.
As a defensive replacement he is inadequate.
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
I suppose you're right
however, Cintron had a terrific spring, and it has carried on to the regular season.
Whereas, Cedeno has stunk since 2006, had a nice first three weeks, and now stinks once more.
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
Cintrón has always been a good offensive SS but his defense is erratic.
That’s Cedeño’s only advantage over Cintrón: Cedeño is a better glove and thus, a better replacement for defensive purposes only.
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
-sigh-
I suppose, but Cedeno makes some doozies as errors. He air mailed a throw way over DLEE’s head (a tough feat) a couple weeks ago. I have also been at Wrigley last year when he called for a pop-up in the infield, and dropped it.
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
True.
If this is any consolation, I don’t expect Cedeño to finish the season as a Cub. There is a very good chance he’s traded. However, he’s making sure the team won’t get much in return.
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
LOL!
Sad, but true! HA!
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
To be fair on
Henry Blanco…
In 5 chances in 2008, with 2 outs and RISP, his BA?
.000
That’s all we had left?
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
the Cubs will get them tomorrow
After all, it is Lily vs Burres. Burres has been a below average pitcher this year…so we shall see.
Geo4MVP - June 24, 2008
A shocking stat
At least I was shocked….
We are batting .208 with RISP and 2 outs. I think that is last in the National League…really shocked me.
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
Incredible for a team that comes from behind so often.
I guess that’s the Cubs’ achilles heel.
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
It just hasn't been
that much of an issue as A-Ram can’t get every AB w/2 outs and RISP.
Also, the team’s runs per game totals lead the MLB, I think.
They have also the most “comeback” wins in the NL.
This stuff usually evens out…
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
A post to my post
The Cubs are 12….only The Crew, Rocks, Pads, and Reds are worse….
However, they are 5th in RBIs and 6th in ABs
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
Another thing that called my attention tonight:
Derek Lee hitting so many grounders with runners on 1st. Cintrón’s inadequate defense bailed Lee once but Lee is an experienced hitter. He should know better. He’s swinging at the ground when he should be trying to elevate the ball.
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
See My Avatar
Good ol’ Charley Lau – extend the arms, swing level, pivot with the hips, visualize a liner back through the box.
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
Ah, visualization....such a great thing!!!
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
The Think System
Who remembers “The Music Man”?
CaliCub - June 24, 2008
Another old fart, eh?
Have folks in River City…...they still have the old set up and running….now it is a ‘conservatory of music’, it is great to go and hear the lessons….
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
Ok, no one knows "The Music Man" and River City?
Prestons house is a national historical monument…..
River City is Mason City, IA…...
The set is a tourist ‘trap’ now….
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
He hasn't been the same DLee since June 1
I have pointed this out many times….Is he hurt? What is wrong? Even when he hits, the ball does not have the same crispness off the bat…...he has a good game, then a few bad ones…so, is something wrong with my favorite player, DLee?
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
That sounds to me like Lee is exhausted.
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
Its a L O N G
season. I suspect at the end of the year he’ll be back to his “normal”, or very solid BA, OBP, and SLG.
The E-Man - June 24, 2008
He is playing
Like the DLee pre 2005…
The question you have to ask is the 2005 and 2007 the real DLee or anomolies….
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
Sad to say those years are looking more and more like anomolies
the big issue I have is how long we’re going to keep him in the 3 hole. We’ve been winning in spite of his poor clutch hitting but what happens if and when we start to slide a little bit. The #3 slot is supposed to be our best hitter and, I’m sorry, but these days Lee doesn’t qualify.
bluekoolaide - June 24, 2008
I agree
That he has not been very clutch. What I find most alarming is that pitchers are not afraid to pitch him. This usually causes himself to not get into hitters counts in those clutch situtations. When he does get the opportunity, he seems to always swing at pitchers pitches…
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
All I know is he's constantly fooled with sinking pitches.
He either swings and misses at those pitches, or hits a weak grounder.
Fraggin Judge - June 24, 2008
Right
Clearly he’s having a huge problem here and it’s gotten around the league(s). It’s so obvious the way pitchers are exploiting him -I’m more worried about this than anything else right now. I don’t see Lee making adjustments and it’s consistently hurting us in the clutch. How much longer can we keep him hitting third?
bluekoolaide - June 24, 2008
He is on pace to Shatter his GIDP career high
He currently resides at 14.
His previous high was 18….
He had 15 all of last year.
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
He is just not the same.....
Rami is our best pure hitter. Maybe hit him 3rd, (God, here comes the eat crow!!!) Edmonds 4th and DLee 5th?
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
In Theory
He should be protected by the fact that ARAM bats behind him. You would think that he would see more strikes. Problem is he is not swinging at strikes. He is also taking a lot of good pitches and swing at pitchers pitches… Those are all just signs of a slump….
TheRiot Police - June 24, 2008
His head is still elsewhere.
he’s fine physically. DLee isn’t a warrior type, so unfortunately he’s more prone than most to being distracted by outside influence. Perhaps with his daughter’s situation, his game isn’t what it could be, and it just might stay that way. Don’t be shocked to see Lou juggle the lineup some more this year.
Matt Allison - June 25, 2008
My wife is home, thank God!!!!
I’ll see y’all for tomorrow’s game!! Have a great night!!!
crazymountain - June 24, 2008
What a barf inducing end to this game
I got to work just in time to watch the last couple of outs on gameday. I didn’t have the heart to listen to Ron’s heart break on the audio. Well, go get em tomorrow! I guess I mean later today.
