Jason Marquis has almost an entire decade of suck on his resume. Sometimes he’ll show a little something that makes you think that maybe he’s not so bad, maybe he’s changed, maybe it’ll be alright.
And then he goes right back to hurting you, and hurting you, and hurting you. It’s his nature.
BUT, I don’t think bases loaded full count is the right time for the home crowd to stand up on their feet and start cheering (unless the home team is at bat). Puts even MORE pressure on the pitcher, IMO.
It’s kevin millar for gods sake he is awful as well, you have to make them earn their runs and that right there probably cost us the series unless our B lineup gets 7-8 runs
BlueMike for GM?! He would GET THINGS DONE. They might not be good things, but you know as soon as a potential trouble spot opens up he will attempt to address it within the hour.
When you repeatedly have 3/5’s of your starting rotation go 5 and 6 innings, then it creates a crapload of strain. MUST, MUST, MUST get a primetime starting pitcher in here and soon. St. Louis and Milwaukee are not going to hand over this division to us without a fight.
Even if no one on this board had a problem with you, you’re simply saying the same thing OVER AND OVER AND OVER. I understand your desire to get another arm in the rotation, and I agree with you. But no one on this board is arguing their point every six or eighteen minutes.
I love your ideas. They’re all original and RIGHT ON.
The Cubs need a pitcher, okay, okay, we get it. I’m sure Hendry is sitting on his hands just waiting for Rich Hill to develop.
If it’s one thing I’ve learned about Hendry over the past two years or so is that he gets what he wants. I have full confidence that he’ll pull off some sort of trade.

The 3D view is worthless because it doesn’t show the plate straight-on (to judge balls and strikes). 2007 is better for that.
Of course, the real asset would be showing the strike zone, but I’m not holding my breath.

Cannot believe ESPN ran that as a story.
neverAcquiesce - June 26, 2008
NO WAY
dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
Yup.
One of the Mike’s (the one who hosts that crappy Duel show) ran the story. They aired about two minutes of the rap. It was ridiculous.
neverAcquiesce - June 26, 2008
This is why I don't miss cable television
dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
No kidding.
If WGN stopped running the Cubs I’d probably give up altogether. I only caught this cos I had a half day and NOTHING is on at 2 in the afternoon.
neverAcquiesce - June 26, 2008

SouthsideCUBSfan - June 26, 2008

Bases full of the bottom of the order, for the top of the order… Thats a good thing
SouthsideCUBSfan - June 26, 2008

This week's "The Pop Culture Grid" according to Ryan Theriot (From S.I.)...
Q1 – Coldplay, Rihanna or Lil’ Wayne: Lil Wayne, of course
Q2 – ——- has the coolest name in sports: Kosuke Fukudome
Q3 – Least favorite animal: Cat
Q4 – Last movie that you went to see twice: Lord of the Rings
Q5 – People would be surprised to hear I… : Listen to gangsta rap on my iPod
Riot doesn’t really strike me as a big gangsta rap kinda guy…
Dan
dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
Really?
I can see it.
cwyers - June 26, 2008
That's because you are in the BatCave, stealing peeks at Theriot's iPod from the scoreboard
dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
boo: least favorite animal
::grumble::
Emelie - June 26, 2008
Yeah, I was thinkin' the same thing.
Y’know I can live with the nonexistent slugging and the poor range and arm at shortstop. But he doesn’t like cats?! That tears it.
daver - June 26, 2008
lol! too true.
Emelie - June 26, 2008
Here's a cat...for no particular reason
dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
I love cats.
sue369 - June 26, 2008
yeah, but it's on his iPod.
drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008

SouthsideCUBSfan - June 26, 2008

dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
is it the issue with Tiger on the cover
SouthsideCUBSfan - June 26, 2008
Mailbox today - KG and Bill with the trophy on cover
dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
Ok, seriously, I have to ask.
The choices are Lil’ Wyane, Rihanna and Coldplay.
That’s:
A) Not a lot of diversity – how many people listen to Rihanna and not Lil’ Wayne?
B) Coldplay? Seriously?
cwyers - June 26, 2008
Coldplay >>>>> Fall Out Boy
sorry
Jayo525 - June 26, 2008
Couldn't Theriot just plead the 5th?
Tangled Up In Blue - June 26, 2008
agreed
TheRamZamDLEE - June 26, 2008
I'm not saying that Coldplay is bad or anything.
Just… what?
cwyers - June 26, 2008
He was given really weird options
I’ll give you that
Jayo525 - June 26, 2008
Lil Wayne
is from Louisiana and a lot of people that live here like him. Not including me
cvan84 - June 26, 2008
LSA
And if you like Coldplay, Travis is even better.
neverAcquiesce - June 26, 2008
I'm also a fan of Keene...
....well, at least “Bed Shaped.”
cwyers - June 26, 2008
Yeah, Keane's good, too.
Travis is my band, though.
neverAcquiesce - June 26, 2008
Remind me
to not let Theriot DJ any of my parties. Yuck.
gewurztraminer - June 26, 2008
patterson

drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
still...
41 pitches from their starter after 2 innings = not so bad.
Slim1256 - June 26, 2008
and their bullpen is depleted
Geo4MVP - June 26, 2008
True.
But the LOB problem rears its ugly head again.
neverAcquiesce - June 26, 2008
at least it was...
the bottom of the order (mostly) LOBing…
if it was 3-4-5, that would be way worse.
See? I’m being the new, improved, glass-half-full Cubs fan! :)
Slim1256 - June 26, 2008
Could Edmonds score on the Font Hit?
Sometimes Ron over exaggerates.
Fishbone2 - June 26, 2008
both Pat and Ron thought he could.
drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
Thanks

drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
"home-slice" HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Tangled Up In Blue - June 26, 2008

santoswoodenlegs - June 26, 2008
Yeah, yeah, whatever.
We still need you to weigh in on whether or not Nine Inch Nails can be considered metal.
cwyers - June 26, 2008
Trent Reznor is a guess-sampling hack!!
daver - June 26, 2008
I'm going to ignore this
dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
Am I on your ignore list, too?
daver - June 26, 2008
Didn't I just say that?! I'm so confused....
dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
Yeah, he'll get on a hot streak every now and again...
...but he’ll never be able to carry a band musically. All he cares about are his personal melodies, not his contribution to the team.
cwyers - June 26, 2008
WTF CWYERS?! You turncoat!
dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
He's only
putting those mp3s out for free to pad his stats.
drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
It's a riff off of BlueMike's constant ragging on Soriano.
If you think that he’s wrong about Soriano, well, then it’s tongue-in-cheek. Try it!
“Reznor’s voodoo eyeblack.”
See? Comedy!

I CAN SEE!
dtpollitt - June 26, 2008
He got my hopes

sue369 - June 26, 2008
not that I'm a Marquis supporter
at all, but it is only the 3rd inning…
drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
Yeah.
Still plenty of time for him to give up more runs.
cwyers - June 26, 2008
heh.
I can hope.
drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
That's the thing.
It’s his nature.
cwyers - June 26, 2008
That's why I'm done with him.
sue369 - June 26, 2008

MiCubsFan - June 26, 2008

Fukudometer - June 26, 2008

Lou In Blue - June 26, 2008
Rich Harden on the DL
won’t let in NEARLY as many runs as Jason Marquis.
drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
There. You said it. Now don't say it again.
daver - June 26, 2008
I love his injuries...
IowaCubs- - June 26, 2008

Jones bounces back
to Marquis. Three outs.
drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
finally.... okay lets get some back guys!
MiCubsFan - June 26, 2008
NOT to excuse Marquis
BUT, I don’t think bases loaded full count is the right time for the home crowd to stand up on their feet and start cheering (unless the home team is at bat). Puts even MORE pressure on the pitcher, IMO.
JohnM - June 26, 2008
Let's get those "QUIET" signs
from the PGA
Fukudometer - June 26, 2008
It's his job to at least throw a strike
It’s kevin millar for gods sake he is awful as well, you have to make them earn their runs and that right there probably cost us the series unless our B lineup gets 7-8 runs
CubsBall2202 - June 26, 2008
Fine
don’t make the job harder than it already is.
JohnM - June 26, 2008
by cheering for
their team?
TheRamZamDLEE - June 26, 2008
It works on offense
And it works with a closer or dominant reliever on the mound.
Bases loaded full count with a struggling pitcher on the mound? Guy who has been described as a head case? I’d try not to distract him at that time.
JohnM - June 26, 2008
The fans pay their money to see a ballgame, cheer and have fun.
If you can’t handle it, then you don’t deserve to be in baseball. Simple as that.
There are some times when things do get out of hand or are inappropriate – racist comments, throwing batteries, etc. Cheering is not one of them.
cwyers - June 26, 2008
But he is in baseball
And sure, the fans shouldn’t have to make adjustments.
Hopefully the Cubs can today, like in his last start, by scoring twice the average number of runs.
JohnM - June 26, 2008
time to turn on the RBI machine
gewurztraminer - June 26, 2008
Granted, Marquis isn't doing anyone any favors...
...but if the Cubs can’t get some runs against Radhames Liz, then they don’t deserve to win.
Bill Potter - June 26, 2008
your right
last inning we didnt capitalize
PieFan08 - June 26, 2008
Is it "tip the cap" time yet?
Mapmaker - June 26, 2008
Well, I did ask would it end up 0-0 or 2-0.
I never thought of 5-0
(crying)
malicedoom - June 26, 2008
Marquis....why do you lose your senses when there is pressure?
Threw some meatballs in there when the going got tough.
razzpunk - June 26, 2008
These damn Oriolies are pesky
They don’t seem to make a lot of mistakes, Now get some runs!
Mapmaker - June 26, 2008
Just glad...
there’s no “Marquis = QUEER” post. Thankful for that…
malicedoom - June 26, 2008
There is now!
Lou In Blue - June 26, 2008
Marquis blows...so much for being the innings eater
I just don’t get this guy,he is completely inconsistent in almost every game.
Geo4MVP - June 26, 2008
Get A.J. Burnett
Call up JP Riccardi….offer Ronny Cedeno, Donald Veal and Sean Marshall.
MDBNIU - June 26, 2008
zzzzzzzz
Lou In Blue - June 26, 2008
burnett?
that made me throw up a little in my mouth..
Chanman25 - June 26, 2008
why would Riccardi do that?
Cedeno and Marshall both suck, according to this guy I know who used to play baseball at NIU.
drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
come on Lee hit one
MiCubsFan - June 26, 2008
Theriot grounds out

drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
Don't go quietly, Don't go quietly, Don't go quietly,
Mapmaker - June 26, 2008
Take Marquis out!
Even Marshall being just recalled from AAA got the job done for 3 solid innings. Come ON!!!
adam316 - June 26, 2008
$21 million over three years for a nappy headed gas can....
Ugh. GET Rich Harden. I’ll settle for AJ Burnett.
MDBNIU - June 26, 2008

Chanman25 - June 26, 2008

But comes off just like Imus, insincere.
Jimmyeatworld - June 26, 2008

sue369 - June 26, 2008
Huh, me?

adam316 - June 27, 2008

But it is early….....COME ON CUBBIES….this guy is wild, be patient and hope Meltdown Marquis is done sucking today!
razzpunk - June 26, 2008
BlueMike for GM?! He would GET THINGS DONE. They might not be good things, but you know as soon as a potential trouble spot opens up he will attempt to address it within the hour.

TheRiot Police - June 26, 2008
Could have...
Jimmyeatworld - June 26, 2008
that is what I thought you would say
Damn fundamentals..
TheRiot Police - June 26, 2008
Pitching is KING
When you repeatedly have 3/5’s of your starting rotation go 5 and 6 innings, then it creates a crapload of strain. MUST, MUST, MUST get a primetime starting pitcher in here and soon. St. Louis and Milwaukee are not going to hand over this division to us without a fight.
MDBNIU - June 26, 2008
What if
we asked nicely?
Fukudometer - June 26, 2008
Will someone give Polly a cracker?
WE GET IT, WE AGREE. GET A PITCHER. IT’S F-ING JUNE 26. PRIME TIME PITCHERS ARE OFTEN NOT AVAILABLE YET.
Bildo1805 - June 26, 2008
Seriously MDBNIU
Even if no one on this board had a problem with you, you’re simply saying the same thing OVER AND OVER AND OVER. I understand your desire to get another arm in the rotation, and I agree with you. But no one on this board is arguing their point every six or eighteen minutes.

IowaCubs- - June 26, 2008
move Lee out of the 3 hole...
maddux1-27-07 - June 26, 2008
You should be a GM, man...
IowaCubs- - June 26, 2008
Happy 56th

Fukudometer - June 26, 2008

Fukudometer - June 26, 2008

drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008

That should have been the Cubs scoring 5 in that inning at home
Mapmaker - June 26, 2008
well, probably.
but it’s only the top of the 4th.
drewishdrewid - June 26, 2008
