Site note: after the game today I have to go in to work (filling in on an afternoon/evening shift). Thus, today's game recap may be delayed till later in the evening.
Holy Hill! I am glad I have missed the majority of this game! The Cubs haven’t had a really embarassing loss yet and I am not willing to say this will be the one yet. They have 2 on, make some noise Wrigley!
reason that doesn’t seem as bad as this one. This is some seriously sloppy fielding and bad pitching. It isn’t like luck just isnt in our corner today. They are losing it
I remember watching the Phillies come back from an 11-1 or an 11-2 deficit to beat the Dodgers back in 1990. The game must have been on ESPN. I still recall Tommy Lasorda sitting all alone on the dugout bench after the game, looking like he wanted to kill someone. Then he knocked the gatorade container onto the ground.
being totally awesome and decided to make baseball more of a challenge by beating people nearly to death. He got two starters in the that game. Probably has a list on his wall at home with a black sharpie next to it.
the point is Im waiting for some Cubs “fan” prophet of doom to come in and inform us how this is the turning point of the season and we’re just in for the let down ..
...Lieber’s disastrous start in Cincinnati. At least Volquez was pitching in that game. The Cubs just pwned by Liz (?!) at Wrigley Field. Oh, well. It’s only one game – and the Cards still lost.
remember kids, this is was looking to be the most difficult month of the year
and we are 14-9 on the month. Plus we are 4.5 games up on the Cardinals and 5.5 up on the Brewers. Today hurt, but this is just one of many that they have left to play this year.
It appears to me Gallagher is much more important considering Marquis is a big question mark for this team. He is not going deep into games, and unless Veal can step it up, I don’t see Gallagher being included in this deal. However, if somehow Hill pulls off a miracle and redeems himself, then we could possibly afford to lose Gallagher, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
He might one day be great. However, in order to get a good player in return, sometimes you have to let go of somebody you might not want to. Gallagher could be this guy. In ‘84, Mel Hall was playing great for the Cubs, I though he’d be great- then whoosh- both he and Carter are gone. Big Red went 16-1 in the 2nd half. If we can get someone like Burnett, Harang, even Sabathia- pair him with Z, along with Dempster & Lilly. No need for Gallagher.
I have a friend in St. Pete, and every time I’m there, I go to Berns Steak House in Tampa. If you ever go to that area, you have to eat there. I don’t know where you’ve eaten, but it might be the best overall restaurant experience I’ve ever had. (And, surprisingly, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.)
The food in Toronto was outstanding (no steak, however).
I even stood next to a guy in Toronto who was a Cubs fan from Peoria but lives up there now. Amazing.
I grew up in the Chicago area but came here to go to school (Bradley). Aside from about three years split between Missouri and North Dakota, I’ve been in Peoria the last 27 years. I like it here very much.
What part of town are you from? What high school did you go to? And how did you end up in Jupiter? (It’s a long way to go from there to Tampa just for dinner, but if you find other reason to be in that area, Berns is a must-stop.)
Went to high school where they don the green and white. Lived (way) out War Memorial Drive when it was two lanes just past “the mall.” (B4 rte. 6) Willlow Knolls Road used to have a 1 lane wood bridge over the railroad tracks :) !! My P’s live close by the casino now. The Screw-> Westchester-->Portage Park--> Beverly-—> boss who didn’t like pulling the boat out of Waukeegan Harbor every winter….my lease was up and I left. (and have never looked back)
I work in the local media, dead-tree version. Cat is going great guns here now, but when I arrived in town in the early ‘80s, that certainly wasn’t the case. Will the last one out of Peoria please turn off the lights?
As I’m sure you now know, there are two “malls” on War Memorial. The real action (and good neighborhoods) here anymore are all north of War.
And Richwoods still has only the third-best high school basketball program in town, behind Manual and Central (although the RHS girls did win a state title a few years ago).
You mention Westchester and Beverly. Are you referring to the western Chicago suburb and the southern Chicago neighborhood, respectively?
My parents still live there. And I have a ton of family in Beverly. My grandparents moved there from Roseland in the early 1970s. This is crazy. Is Scarborough a street in Westchester now? (I haven’t lived there in almost 30 years, so I’ve lost track of a lot of the “newer” neighborhoods on the south side of town.)
So you must have been at RHS when Nora Lewis played there. And the football state title came in either Peeler’s last year or one of them, so you graduated from RHS around 1983 or 84?
And without “outing” myself too much, Bill Liesse is my boss.
Ask Bill about Terrepin Station…..ask bill if “Phil Favorite” rings any bells….no..I’m not Phil…
Used to live in apt.s by Pingatore’s (Italinan Rest.) at Cermack and Wolf…
Used to live in a “flat” by 111th and Kedzie…and took clases at Xav. (Beverly sounds better than Mt. Greenwood…hey …I ought a get a medal….South side Cubs Fan…:)...))
I used to play baseball w/ Greg Peeler (coach Peeler’s son_)..It was Nov. 85…ask the boys in Deerfield (not beach) bout that….
And I know of Phil Favorite but never have met him. I take it you know he and Bill from U of I?
I know exactly where those apartments are. Pingatore’s, as I’m sure you know, was owned by the basketball coach at my alma mater, St. Joseph High School (Class of 1981).
Or maybe you are (hence your name). My grandparents lived near 115th and Western—my grandad was another South Side Cubs fan, who helped turn me on to them in the late ‘60s.
I know Coach Peeler a little but am more acquainted with Coach Butler. Still see him on the golf course a lot. And I still don’t think the Deerfield boys know what hit them.
I see Stewart almost every day—known him over 10 years. We run hot and cold.
Cubs fans! Seems like this is the tumultuous area where Cubdom and Cards country meet. i am in Canton, which only puts me about 30 miles west of Peoria. Keep up the Cubbie fight!
it is lonely in here.

love the ivy - June 26, 2008
So, is CC worth the effort?
At least Barry Zito’s detained .. phew ..
cubnational - June 26, 2008
Depends on what they demand
It appears to me Gallagher is much more important considering Marquis is a big question mark for this team. He is not going deep into games, and unless Veal can step it up, I don’t see Gallagher being included in this deal. However, if somehow Hill pulls off a miracle and redeems himself, then we could possibly afford to lose Gallagher, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Geo4MVP - June 26, 2008
Gallagher is good.
Jimmyeatworld - June 26, 2008
Whoa
I just notciced the Sox have a long flight ahead of them tonight – they are still playing in LA. Sucks for them.

kcjones - June 26, 2008
Huh?
Tampa Bay is the “bottom” of the AL East?
Baltimore is at least 4-5 games over .500.
And the Cubs took 2 of 3 from Toronto (and probably should have swept).
Ai, yi, yi, kcjones, there you go again.

kcjones - June 26, 2008
Didn't you have a steak in Tampa?
kcjones - June 26, 2008
I went to Toronto, not Tampa
(Thank heavens, as it turned out.)

I grew up in Peoria…...How long have you been there?
kcjones - June 26, 2008
There are Peorians everywhere

Willlow Knolls Road used to have a 1 lane wood bridge over the railroad tracks :) !!
My P’s live close by the casino now.
The Screw-> Westchester-->Portage Park--> Beverly-—> boss who didn’t like pulling the boat out of Waukeegan Harbor every winter….my lease was up and I left. (and have never looked back)
A good steak or Pizza is worth the drive!! :)
CAT?
kcjones - June 26, 2008
One of the few non-Cat people
I work in the local media, dead-tree version.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 26, 2008
Yes...Yes...
Does the word Scarborough mean anything?
kcjones - June 26, 2008
(although the RHS girls did win a state title a few years ago).
They took one when I went there…...also a Football one was had the year after I left….
kcjones - June 26, 2008
(and good neighborhoods) here anymore are all north of War.
Some things never change….
But I think it’s somewhat respectible to live on the east side of the river now…..
kcjones - June 26, 2008
Do u no....
Bill Liese?
kcjones - June 26, 2008
I grew up in Westchester
My parents still live there. And I have a ton of family in Beverly. My grandparents moved there from Roseland in the early 1970s. This is crazy. Is Scarborough a street in Westchester now? (I haven’t lived there in almost 30 years, so I’ve lost track of a lot of the “newer” neighborhoods on the south side of town.)
So you must have been at RHS when Nora Lewis played there. And the football state title came in either Peeler’s last year or one of them, so you graduated from RHS around 1983 or 84?
And without “outing” myself too much, Bill Liesse is my boss.

84....
And I’m a peon..but I meant Scarb. Research…
kcjones - June 26, 2008
I've known Greg Stewart....
a long time too…...he prob. hates me…..but can’t changee the past…...
kcjones - June 26, 2008
Bill is the biggest Deadhead I know
And I know of Phil Favorite but never have met him.
Send me an e-mail sometime. My address is ncvvnc@yahoo.com

Makes me happy to see so many central IL
Cubs fans! Seems like this is the tumultuous area where Cubdom and Cards country meet. i am in Canton, which only puts me about 30 miles west of Peoria. Keep up the Cubbie fight!
