you’re absolutely right. throw the book at him. screw the arbitrator – suspend his ass now right in the middle of the game. throw away the key. he gone. buh-bye.
Well, the question is if this little slump extends will this board turn into a bloody battlefield....
littered with the virtual bodies of the many factions that snipe at each other??? The Negative Nellies vs. the Optimistic vs. the Holier-Than-Thou vs. the Immature Clowns???? Could be an ugly thing…...and for full disclosure I am sure I have been in more than one of those groups…..just wish we could all get along and keep it civil and respect our unique and sometimes imperfect ways we cheer for the Cubbies.
It’s all good. We’re playing without several front-line players. If you’d have told me the Cubs would be in this position at this point of the season, I’d have been happy.
Well, we had our chances.......better than the last two losses......
ARam really stank today but he will pull out of it…....win tomorrow and we still win the overall series…........still can’t believe ARam couldn’t at least get a SAC fly there….....tomorrow will we see Sean Marshall surprise us with a great start????
gonna wipe this week of Cubbie ball from my memory and hope we keep afloat until Big Z, Sori, Reed J, and even Scott Eyre get back….when we get full strength again we will get back on a roll…....
The “match-em-up” stuff is nothing but reflexive CYA managing. If it were up to me, I would let pure performance (read: stats) solely determine the lineup, and the hell with what side of the plate a player bats.
Lucky you, seeing three victories in a row. I’ve got tickets for all four games in Milwaukee at the end of July. Looks like that’s going to be a bigger series than it appeared to be a month ago.
One of the greatest inventions of the century. I can record a game while working, then watch it after finding out what happened – and on a day like today all I have to do is press “Clear” and it’s gone.
Checked the box score and it looks like ARam and Soto didn’t have the best of days, what with all those runners left on base. I tend to agree with other posters who have said all the interleague stuff does is create unnecessary controversy and gets players too keyed up. Maybe this was the case with ARam and Soto – couldn’t concentrate effectively given the Crosstown Classic hysteria.
Can’t say I feel good about tomorrow night’s game either, but I’d love to be proven wrong. Just keep hoping the Royals and Twins can help out.
flied out to right three times when it was meaningless (a third out twice with two men on), but when that same at bat (a deep fly to right) would have scored the tying run int he 9th, he hits a grounder. In fact it looked to me like all three pitches to ARam in the 9th were not very good, like they were pitching around him. Was he pressing on the road? He may have been…
ARam will still be more clutch than press and not deliver. He is a stud. Let’s get him back in the cleanup spot.
First
Lets get some runs!

LT - June 28, 2008

halfblindcubbiegirl - June 28, 2008
Yeah, he's been out on Lake Michigan calling strikes.
Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008

Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008

Though I never said he should be dropped in the order. He’s been in my shit list for two-plus weeks now, that’s all.
chilango2 - June 28, 2008

LT - June 28, 2008

I just realized something.
The last two letters in the “Fox” Network’s name are the same as the last two letters in “White Sox”!
IT’S A PLOT. THEY’RE OUT TO GET US.
Forgot my meds again. ;-)
Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008
No, they really love the RED Sox
razzpunk - June 28, 2008
Thanks, I feel better.
Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008
No, it's just that their executives are never so happy
As when they see NYY, NYM or BOS at the top of the screen
All the other teams could fall off the face of the earth, and Fox wouldn’t care
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
come on Ward

Doggie Stalker - June 28, 2008
I thought you were going home
JohnM - June 28, 2008
I was but I realized I had more stuff to do
IF it rains here and they switch to the Cubs game in NYC I am running home.
Have to do a marketing plan for obscure French documentaries now.
GO CUBS
Doggie Stalker - June 28, 2008
What's the size of THAT market?
JohnM - June 28, 2008
RAIN OUT ... RAIN OUT ... CMON RAIN OUT
cocknfire - June 28, 2008

Canadian Cubs Fan - June 28, 2008
10 runs in the first 4 innings will do that
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
Our lefties
bail out big time against LHP’s. Especially Dome!
Canadian Cubs Fan - June 28, 2008
Tough sun angle for the hitters right now.
Pitcher in sunlight, batter in shade.
Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008
And lots of trash blowing around on the ground doesn't help
JohnM - June 28, 2008
Did you see when he pitched 96 mph
The pitch speed was all flames and it was in red. WTF
Fukudometer - June 28, 2008
uhh
yeah fox likes to mess with your head like that
cubs2234 - June 28, 2008
What's next, a big robot between innings?
Or a magical glowing puck?
Fukudometer - June 28, 2008
A glowing baseball, so you can tell where the pitch is
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
they've done that for a long time
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 28, 2008
I'm usually at the fox games
First one I’ve seen on Fox this year. New this year?
Fukudometer - June 28, 2008
no.
cubs2234 - June 28, 2008
I don't think so...But they do love their flashy graphics...I know that's not new
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
a bunch of us should of said
we didn’t have those graphics on our TV.
Just to mess with their heads. :-)
LAcarl519 - June 28, 2008
Rammy hits it hard
but Dye tracks it. Tough luck day for ARam so far…but big possum walks late!
Canadian Cubs Fan - June 28, 2008
I can't believe it...
they showed a closeup of the batter, catcher and ump before that pitch….
and the umps eyes were open!
Who’d have thought it given his strike zone.
Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008
Dang
GateCity, VA Cubs Fan - June 28, 2008
Man.....ARam is 0 for the series.......guess he used all his magic up last weekend...
razzpunk - June 28, 2008

During the AS break, baseball reading suggestions?
Madison Cub Fan - June 28, 2008
Crazy 08, if you haven't read it
I’m going to assume you’ve read the book on the 2004 season, the name of which escapes me now for some reason … anyone?

LT - June 28, 2008
So tomorrow night, how will Joe Morgan bash the Cubs???
razzpunk - June 28, 2008
He will say
They need more consistency!
Goodie1969 - June 28, 2008
He will invent something
like the Thome Tower or the Belle Bullpen where Albert Belle hit most of his HR
Fukudometer - June 28, 2008
Hopefully, no references to the fictional "Banks Blvd."
In case you don’t know Joe, you suck.
Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008
No, we'll hear about the BIG RED MACHINE, though
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
Hopefully

eswan9 - June 28, 2008
that could make up for some of dumbness
Madison Cub Fan - June 28, 2008
Yes we could call him Captain Obvious
eswan9 - June 28, 2008
but captain is a bit much
dr. obvious, perhaps? LOL
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 28, 2008
Last week, someone called him "The Oracle of Cincinnati"
I’m sticking with that one right now.
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
ha!
thats a good one.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 28, 2008
More like the testicle of Cincinnati...
LT - June 28, 2008
LOL!
eswan9 - June 28, 2008

ballhawk - June 28, 2008
Why is Gallagher still in there given his pitch count?
I know we’re trying to save the bullpen, but Zambrano’s 130 pitch game preceded his shoulder strain.
Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008
+100
eswan9 - June 28, 2008
Punk bats left and lou wants a specialist...just a guess
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
See the inning counts of the starters for our last 2 games
Marquis: 4 innings
Demp: 2 1/3 innings
I’m not happy about the high pitch cout, but Lou needed innings
berselius - June 28, 2008
Wow....three k's in a row for Gally!!! Turning it on now!!!
razzpunk - June 28, 2008
and throwing 93, 94 mph fastballs too!
JFCubFan - June 28, 2008
and dealing with an erratic strike zone by the ump
razzpunk - June 28, 2008
And almost giving up a dinger right there.
Gotta be his last inning.
Scrappy and Pesky have already been taken as nicknames on this team. How about “Gritty?”
Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008
Um ... why?
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
121 pitches
JFCubFan - June 28, 2008
Is that grittiness or poor decisions by managing?
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
We won't know until his next start.
eswan9 - June 28, 2008
he'll probably won't have another start for 7 days
he’ll be fine
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 28, 2008
Prolly right...I just don't know that "gritty" is the word I'd use
Maybe I’m being picky
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
i prefer easy cheese
because of how much he loves to throw the high and hard fastball. :-)
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 28, 2008
He was gritty. I don't know how smart it was to leave him in.
Maybe it’ll help his confidence.
Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008
Nice catch, Jimmy Edmonds

ballhawk - June 28, 2008
Gally went to a 121 pitches
this strike zone is wonky.
other than that, not much
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 28, 2008
121 pitches? Call me Rip Van Ballhawk, but is Dusty still managing the Cubs?
ballhawk - June 28, 2008
Heh
He did fine. Lets see how the kid responds. I doubt it’ll become a habit of Lou’s.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 28, 2008
well, I guess if you go every 8 days, you can throw 120+...

It was STUPID to skip Gallagher last time out. Clearly he was rusty in the first couple innings. Maybe he can pitch in normal days rest next time.

LT - June 28, 2008
Have been able to watch the game until now
looks like our offense has left a lot of runs on the bases,
DC Cubbie - June 28, 2008
Crede made a very nice play
to save two runs (at least) in the third.
If you have a high on-base percentage, odds are you’re going to leave a lot of guys on base.

cocknfire - June 28, 2008

halfblindcubbiegirl - June 28, 2008
Well, the question is if this little slump extends will this board turn into a bloody battlefield....
littered with the virtual bodies of the many factions that snipe at each other??? The Negative Nellies vs. the Optimistic vs. the Holier-Than-Thou vs. the Immature Clowns???? Could be an ugly thing…...and for full disclosure I am sure I have been in more than one of those groups…..just wish we could all get along and keep it civil and respect our unique and sometimes imperfect ways we cheer for the Cubbies.
razzpunk - June 28, 2008
Um, nice optimism there
cocknfire - June 28, 2008
just saying....lots of people spend tons of time arguing with each other here even though we are all cheering for the same team
razzpunk - June 28, 2008
Yeah, lighten up.
It’s all good. We’re playing without several front-line players. If you’d have told me the Cubs would be in this position at this point of the season, I’d have been happy.
Cubfansince1957 - June 28, 2008
Yup....expected a slump but it makes the slump worse when people start going at each other
razzpunk - June 28, 2008
I dunno... sometimes it can be quite amusing...
as long as people continue to type without thinking (or at least counting to 3), things always have the potential get out of hand.

We are talking web gem worthy.
Madison Cub Fan - June 28, 2008
That sucks...
he made a similar play at Wrigley.

Madison Cub Fan - June 28, 2008

razzpunk - June 28, 2008
and it's June
how bizarre is that
Madison Cub Fan - June 28, 2008
I said it once before in this thread....
I will say it again. Ramirez, the hottest hitter on this team, moving to the 5th spot was, and always has been a bad idea. Look at the numbers.
louslovechild - June 28, 2008
Yeah, I didn't like that either.
But Lou is in love with the lefty, righty thing.
Bump Bailey - June 28, 2008
One of Lou's Drawbacks
The “match-em-up” stuff is nothing but reflexive CYA managing. If it were up to me, I would let pure performance (read: stats) solely determine the lineup, and the hell with what side of the plate a player bats.
CaliCub - June 28, 2008
Took Sean 121 pitches to get through 6
seems to be a constant theme with our staff, they don’t ever seem to move through innings efficiently.
DC Cubbie - June 28, 2008
Sweep, imo...
I fully expect the Cubs to get swept tomorrow in Comiskullar.
These teams are separated by a game or two in the history of this series, so its about right.
The entire team is in a funk, and undergoing myriad injuries, which as we all see, puts us at a major talent disadvantage on the roster.
We still are in first place, but with a couple more sweeps in short order will allow both the Cardinals and Brew to catch us.
The E-Man - June 28, 2008
Both the Twins and Royals being hot is a huge help to Cubs fans right now
Madison Cub Fan - June 28, 2008
Agreed!
The E-Man - June 28, 2008
If I were a Cub fan, I'd be worried about the Cubs,
not the Twins and Royals.
ballyb - June 29, 2008
Relax, E
The doom-and-gloomers aren’t going to ruin this summer for me. One game at a time, eh?
Not Bruce Froemming - June 28, 2008
Sure...
One game at a time it is.
Two very good teams that play great in their own parks.
The E-Man - June 28, 2008
True, that
Seems to be a common theme in baseball this season.
At least the Cubs aren’t going to lose the season series to the Sox, the way the Cards are to the Royals.
And think of it this way: About 3-4 more feet, and Lee hits two homers and the Cubs win easily. Who says baseball isn’t a game of inches?
God, this has been a fun season so far.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 28, 2008
Unbelievable!
I was thrilled to be @ Wrigley twice for last weekend, and see the only “W” against the O’s. Lucky!
Perhaps DLee can keep it going tomorrow. Man, I hope he ends the GIDP streak!
The E-Man - June 28, 2008
He did end it today, no?
5-for-5?
Lucky you, seeing three victories in a row. I’ve got tickets for all four games in Milwaukee at the end of July. Looks like that’s going to be a bigger series than it appeared to be a month ago.
Hang in there. The best is yet to come.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 28, 2008
I'll be @ one of those games. It'll be my first game of the year!!!!
Madison Cub Fan - June 28, 2008
I am so excited for next weekends baseball
Madison Cub Fan - June 28, 2008
Lou on the postgame...
Proud of Gallagher….”he hung in there”, sox are a good team, “should win their division by 6 games.or more ” Proud of the Cubs. Both good teams, etc…
Bump Bailey - June 28, 2008
TiVo
CaliCub - June 28, 2008
it was amazing that ARam
flied out to right three times when it was meaningless (a third out twice with two men on), but when that same at bat (a deep fly to right) would have scored the tying run int he 9th, he hits a grounder. In fact it looked to me like all three pitches to ARam in the 9th were not very good, like they were pitching around him. Was he pressing on the road? He may have been…
ARam will still be more clutch than press and not deliver. He is a stud. Let’s get him back in the cleanup spot.
