The first two games of this series did not go well for out beloved. And Tonight Game three of the crosstown show down as Derrek Lee and the Cubs look to lockdown the Sox at the Cell!!
Why is Matt Murton still hear wasting a roster spot?
Because if he’s not going to play against a lefty and given the plethora of injuries in the outfield (to include the very gimpy Jim Edmonds) then I just don’t get it. Just give the No Tool Wonder his unconditional release and be done with it.
Joe Morgan is, you’re shocked, talking out of his ass here. If good hitters are significantly better against good pitching than average hitters (moreso than the difference between them and average hitters against ALL pitching), nobody’s proven it yet.
his patience has waned…initially it looked like he was finally getting things together offensively. He’s taken a couple of steps backwards lately though
Way too many at-bats like that recently. And not just by Cedeno. Might explain the team’s recent weakness. It’s almost like poor hitting strategy is contagious. Seems like I’ve seen Cub hitters swing at first pitches after walks and with men in scoring position dozens of times in the last two weeks. It’s getting old.
It’s possible that Frank Drebin is an umpire out there and is purposely making poor calls in order to extend the game before Ricardo Montalban can activate the sensor in Fukudome’s watch to make him assassinate the Queen.
scouts’ll report “never swings early in count” and then they’ll pitch you differently. You need to adjust your approach, which is what Dome is trying to do, I think.
I know we like to complain about ESPN a lot, but the reason we’re here is because we’re playing so well. I want it to get to the point where fans of other teams complain about how much they hear about the Cubs. Just let the wins pile up.
First?

rtraugs25 - June 29, 2008
$5 is too much

He is a doctor
So they got to pay him a lot. Probaly the only person at ESPN with a doctorate, sadly.

Pretty sure Erin Andrews has a doctorate...in hottness

Hey all!
Last few games have been tough! Let’s get this done tonight!!!
slcathena - June 29, 2008
So I'm looking at the diminsions of
the Cell on Gameday… and it doesn’t look any bigger than Wrigley. How is it we have the “small” park, and they never get any bandbox comments?
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 29, 2008
Because we have 'Banks Boulevard'
That isn’t shown on the ballpark dimensions… those allow cheap HR’s
GoCubbies34 - June 29, 2008
most HRs/game in baseball = the Cell
LAcarl519 - June 29, 2008
The Cell is a major home run park.
ESPN’s own park factors have it as the most drastic homepark in the majors this year.
cwyers - June 29, 2008
yesterday Marmol pitch 0 - 2 for a HR
Did not see the game due to blackouts here on the east coast. Was Marmol’s 0 -2 pitch near the zone or was it a good AB with a lucky swing ???
I hate HR’s against on 0 – 2 pitches
We need Marmol on fire again
parrotinct - June 29, 2008
Good AB with lucky swing
It was up and out of the zone, IIRC

But all night is going to drive you - and everyone else - crazy.

Pitch by pitch for things like Kosuke’s first AB as a Cub, Edmonds’ first, close and late situations. Anything more than that is overkill.

I'm sorry, I'm jumping on the hate-Cedeno bandwagon, finally...
dtpollitt - June 29, 2008
No more room, I'm guessing.
Goodie1969 - June 29, 2008
WTF are you swinging at the first pitch for!!!!!
Blanco just had a 10 pitch at bat..
Galvan316 - June 29, 2008
Trade Cedeno for CC
LT - June 29, 2008
Yes, I know....
LT - June 29, 2008
Thank you. I was about to say something...

I dunno
sue369 - June 29, 2008
Chacon? Is that you?
dtpollitt - June 29, 2008
You mean Jermaine DYE
Jayo525 - June 29, 2008
Wasn't a bad pitch to swing at
He just missed it. It WAS right down the middle.
Archie - June 29, 2008
Agree
That he shouldn’t have been swinging first pitch though
Archie - June 29, 2008
No. Not in that situation. Putrid display.
Jayo525 - June 29, 2008
Cedeno's patience
has really slipped in the last few weeks. He seemed to do much better early in the season. Perry (and Lou) needs to get between his ears.
LAcarl519 - June 29, 2008
I agree
his patience has waned…initially it looked like he was finally getting things together offensively. He’s taken a couple of steps backwards lately though
OmahaCub - June 29, 2008
Still 2 outs, and bases loaded
Id take at least one there
Galvan316 - June 29, 2008
We dont need 5 2nd baseman
I know there are a lot of injuries, does Hendry’s cell phone get turned off ???

BigJohnAZ - June 29, 2008
Runner at 1st
No one out
Galvan316 - June 29, 2008
Not that I'm an expert, but....
I wonder if he’s taking his left hand off the bat in the middle of his swing. It’ll be interesting to watch him next time he’s at bat (I mean Cedeno).
Cubfansince1957 - June 29, 2008
I think Ronny Cedeno is Ronny Cedeno
His first thirty or forth ABs: Great
After that: Suckitude
Didn’t he bat like .300 in April 2006?
cocknfire - June 29, 2008
I agree, he sucks right now.
It’s especially painful to watch, given how he was in April.
And how is that curve not a strike?
Cubfansince1957 - June 29, 2008
His swing appears long and loopy to me, kinda like Pie's.
Goodie1969 - June 29, 2008
Thome up
Dye on first
Galvan316 - June 29, 2008
DP coming
LT - June 29, 2008

Come on Sean
Galvan316 - June 29, 2008
Ronny Cedeno is who we think he was
Hence why the criticism over Sweet Lou not playing him much is / was completely unwarranted.

Runners at 2nd 3rd correction
Galvan316 - June 29, 2008
Cedeno
Way too many at-bats like that recently. And not just by Cedeno. Might explain the team’s recent weakness. It’s almost like poor hitting strategy is contagious. Seems like I’ve seen Cub hitters swing at first pitches after walks and with men in scoring position dozens of times in the last two weeks. It’s getting old.
danimal15 - June 29, 2008
Ronny Cedeno kinda sorta isn't very good..that's the dilemma
MDBNIU - June 29, 2008
Got screwed on the call on the curve and then Thome singles.
I hope this won’t be a night behind the plate like yesterday, where the strike zone was out on Lakeshore Drive sometimes.
Cubfansince1957 - June 29, 2008
did he swing????

the umps caused that as Lou went back to the dugout as asked and the homeplate ump rang him up anyway.
LAcarl519 - June 29, 2008
Are they really minor league umps? Or am I missing something?

WartburgCub - June 29, 2008
I think we all should remember one thing:
It’s possible that Frank Drebin is an umpire out there and is purposely making poor calls in order to extend the game before Ricardo Montalban can activate the sensor in Fukudome’s watch to make him assassinate the Queen.

I vote for Fontenot and Theriot being traded if possible. Keep EPat and DeRosa (of course). When I drink more, I’ll have better ideas :-)
zevkalman - June 29, 2008
not sure
but I don’t think the Cubs need anymore bats or balls but maybe they could trade them for some Cajun voodoo or at least a Zatarain’s recipe

I don’t think it’s all that much different.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008
And you can't be the same all season
scouts’ll report “never swings early in count” and then they’ll pitch you differently. You need to adjust your approach, which is what Dome is trying to do, I think.

cocknfire - June 29, 2008
Why are we talking about Hamilton? Good story, but what does this have to do with us?
dtpollitt - June 29, 2008
It's a national broadcast.
There are plenty of people who don’t care about the Cubs or the Sox, and just care about baseball. ESPN is putting on a show.
cwyers - June 29, 2008
Yeah, but you think they'd do that if it were NYY-BOS?
cocknfire - June 29, 2008
Yeah, I do.
I know we like to complain about ESPN a lot, but the reason we’re here is because we’re playing so well. I want it to get to the point where fans of other teams complain about how much they hear about the Cubs. Just let the wins pile up.

meaning Marshall barely gets his jacket on in the dugout … lets have some patience this inning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
