The Cubs probably should have won one more game against Baltimore and one of the three vs. the White Sox. Anybody who was saying they should have swept both series is crazy.
I was going to say wake me when the Cubs pitch inside instead of letting these mashers hang out over the plate all series and swing from their heals. Of course it wasn’t good enough but someone, Swisher, anyone, needed one in the ribs with some hair on it.
A complete lack of timely hitting in this series. But, to give some props to the Sox, Dye and Crede have made some great defensive plays to keep the Cubs from scoring.
We need to get our players back, hope nobody else get hurts…and please get back to playing fundamental baseball…no more gaffes in the outfield, no more base running blunders, right players cover the bag… etc…
A lot of people wonder why the Cardinals are winning….they are getting good enough pitching and the catch the ball and they run the bases well… Going to win more than you lose when you play like that.
so maybe they left their bats in Oakland. Let’s try to feast on them and get healthy before we head to St Louis for the weekend. We need no less than 3 of 4 in the Bay Area.
Hast tip tot hem. Let’s hope the Cubs can get the offense going again. Let’s go beat the Giants so Jon Miller will shut his fat mouth. Good night, all.
I did mention this other day and have never spent anytime looking into it…but it seems that Cardinals have caught the back end of a team’s rotation a bunch of times. When your current pitching staff consists of a bunch of 3,4,5 guys it makes it easier to win when you are facing like talent.
I feel that Jim Hendry is a good GM, in that he is aggressive and is always looking for moves to improve the major league club. That said, when you look around MLB, you see teams like Boston that have seemingly endless depth in the minors, or teams like Cincy or San Diego that are bringing up their ”#1 prospect” to the majors. The Cubs really don’t have a prospect in the organization that would receive that kind of fanfare at this point in time.
Its just a bunch of overachieving players. Schumaker, Ludwick, LaRue (wtf?), and Miles are players that I GUARANTEE you thought these players wouldn’t be doing as good. Same goes with Wellemeyer, Looper, and co.
There's nothing better than sports talk radio in Chicago.....
During football season…...especially after the Bears just had a bad game (no dis here….I’m a huge Bear fan)....nothing like that and a cup of coffee to get ya goin on an earlly November morning…...
I picked ur screen name out of a bunch of inane comments (I make them too) earlier…...
My memories of Varsho is he was another clown on a late 70’s early 80’s Cub team with no aspiration….(not player w/ no aspiration…team w/ no aspiration)......
I’m sick and tired of the losing….and wish more fanss felt like I do.
from 1988-1990. He was supposed to be the next 3B guy, but never panned out. He’s probably most memorable for having a 4-4 or 5-5 performance against the Cubs as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Can’t let it bug you too much. We should vent while it is happening - preferably rationally - and move on to the next game after the current one is over.
With the first two weighted about a zillion times more than the third.
The Cards have won seven and lost nine their last sixteen games. Good Lord, what IS their secret? Oh, right, they aren’t very good.
The American League just got done destroying the National League in inter-league play. It’ll be good for the Cubs to get back to playing a kinder gentler style of ball.
if ya asked me! Scouting would sure seem to explain why the Cards’ defense is nearly always positioned perfectly, why their pitchers can get the key outs, and why their offense is 2nd in the league in OBP.
All that said, I can’t stand ‘em. Their fan base, announcers, and manager are all obnoxious and smug.
Lilly’s a fly-ball pitcher in a park that’s hard to hit HRs in, and Zito is…well, less than stellar. Hopefully, it’ll start us off to a successful week.
I will once again post a comment on pitching coaches...
It seems that the White Sox changed their approach to our hitters. Did we change our approach to theirs? I continue to hope that the Cubs will replace Larry Rothschild and either get Greg Maddux (if he retires this year) or get someone else.
I really think we have a sub-par link as this is the only guy left from the Dusty era (I know he worked for Lou before!). It just seems to me that the Sox changed how they pitched to us and their batters really had a good approach to our pitchers this week. It seemed that their batters knew what to expect. Maybe that has something to do with young Geo calling games behind the plate. But again, Larry needs to help him change his pattern of pitch calling (notice how Gallagher ALWAYS has trouble the second time through the order).
I love this Cub team, but I always feel like we don’t get the most out of our pitching.
But either way, let’s wipe this weekend off our faces and have a good trip to San Francisco.
...we dismantled the Sox last week, 22 – 11, and were dismantled this week, 21 – 9. We looked downtrodden, sluggish, and in dire need of a few of Soriano’s lead-off home runs or Zambrano’s broken bats to jump start things. Last time Alfonso was hurt, we were fine, but this time it was clear we needed our starters back, and our bench players coming off the bench. I was really disappointed by our lack of patience; earlier today I posted that we were waiting for Buerhle to pitch to us, rather than waiting for the right pitch to drive. Where did our patience go? Out the window this weekend.
This might be a good jolt of reality – Lou got fired up, everyone looked like crap this weekend…maybe a good regrouping on the plane or organization of thoughts will do us good.
The Giants are a bad, bad team, and they showed it this month. They are six games back in the worst division in baseball, and this month: after losing 2/3 to the Mets, they swept 4 games from the Nationals, lost 2/3 from a bad Colorado team, lost 4/6 from Oakland, lost 2/3 from the Tigers, lost 2/3 from a bad Royals team, and took 2/3 from a bad Cleveland team. That’s 13-13 this month, granted, but only Oakland is above .500, and nearly a quarter of wins came from the Nationals, the second worst team in baseball.
Our probables are as follows:
Lilly vs Zito – a new arm slot for Zito has shown improvements, but he’s 0-7 with a 7+ ERA at home
Marquis vs Cain – a dangerous pitcher and dangerous game
Dempster vs Correla – who’s sporting nearly a 5 ERA, we can take this game
Gallagher vs Lincecum – the ace of the staff @ 9-1 with a sub 2.5 ERA
I see two low scoring games in 1 & 3, a rough, high scoring victory in game 2, and a great pitching duel in the finale. Let’s take 3/4 from these guys, and get ramped up for a fantastic showdown with the Cardinals.
...Brewers will be at Arizona, and they won’t throw Sheets, but will face Davis/Ownings/Johnson/Webb, which is great news for us. The Thursday game is 8-2 Parra vs 12-4 Webb.
...and the Cardinals host the Mets for four games, but will miss Santana thanks to a doubleheader on Friday that changed their rotation a bit. Cardinals are gonna take that series, IMO.
we have 4 San Fran, 3 Cards, then a 6 game home stand with the Reds and Giants. Barring that Cardinals series, we can make a good lil streak of wins here – 9-4 or 10-3, anyone? 6/7 or 5/7 Giants, 1/3 or 2/3 Cards, and a sweep of the Reds?
The Cubs are NOT plying well in any aspect of the game right now. I’m hopeful they can turn it around but to expect them to all of a sudden win a series on the road while they’re still banged up sounds unrealistic.
look at the TB series. But for CM’s melt-down, those were all very good games against one of the top teams in the majors. The O’s series… not so good. This series, except for the first game, they were all good games against the 3d best home team in the ML who were additionally motivated. Teams that are tracking for mid 90s in wins don’t suck for 70 games.
Unless we acquire sabathia or harden this season is going to end in heartbreak
Theres no way in hell we can win in october with this garbage rotation we are throwing out there right now, its pathetic. It could not be more obvious that this has the potential to be “the year” never have we had a better lineup and solid bullpen like this to win it all. We need two frontline starters in the rotation to even be considered national league favorites because what we have now is only good enough to get by for now
(and I’m a huge purveyor of the offense)......is runs….no matter how good your offense is…are hard to come by in October…
I DO NOT like the current rotation in a “short series”.....against a LOT of teams…...I don’t like the “match up’s”...It’s like the Cubs have a “1”...but not the best “1 and a lotta 4’s…..(or 3’s)
I don’t see any shut down guys…..Z is a legit #1…....but game 1 is a 50/50 prop….....I like demp…but I’m scared he’ll be tired come fall…...so that makes Demp and Lily ” 3’s”......Marsh, Gallagher, Marquiss, Lieber, Maddux?? (et. al.) , ....5’s…...you want to throw them in a short series????
So for a team trying for a championship, this was not the way to end interleague play. Although all these teams are contenders in their divisions, there is no reason why this team shouldn’t have gone 2 for 3 in each series. Tampa Bay isn’t that good, and the orioles are a .500 team. they just swept the sox last weekend, what the sox got all new w players in a week? I don’t think so. This was and is unexcusable. Winning teams win, no matter what, and no matter who is playing. Ask the cardinals and brewers about that. the excuse making needs to stop. This was unexcusable, poor play for a team that is now favored to go all the way.
Having said that though, it’s time to dust themselves off, move on to SF, beat the pants off them, and take 2 out of 3 in St louis before the break. After that, Johnson, Soriano and Zambrano should be back, and this team can focus on the stretch run because it’s going to go right down to the wire again.
And Baltimore are 2 games over .500 in a very tough division, division that Tampa Bay plays in, as well. The Sox murder people at home, and they are a good team. The Cub made crucial defensive and pitching mistakes in all three of those series, and they paid for it.
I follow baseball as much as I can…......kinda hard from kuwait you know.
Either way, on paper before the season, the rays weren’t expected to be that good. Nobody expected them to contend. So either a bunch of people underestimated them(very likely) or their due for a correction. Remember they’re still in the same division as the Red Sox and the Yankees so nothing is a gimmie for them.
However, the cubs were/are supposed to be their equal or better. They haven’t won in 100 years, lest anybody has forgotten, and this “well they were good teams and we played well against them but their in the AL and in a tough division” is crap. We should have beat them. Plain and simple. Winners win, and if the cubs want to be winners and bring a trophy back to wrigley, then they need to win, no matter who is in the opposite dugout, and no matter who is on the field. Yes, I know that the cubs won’t win all the games. But getting swept by a team, ANY team is unacceptable. and it’s happened twice now within two weeks. They need to play better. Losing sucks, and this team has had way too much of it.

it wasn’t that big a deal… but it was sort of annoying.

hey dudes
GarlicFryCubFan - June 29, 2008
why can the cardinals win
regardless of who they have out there, and we can’t win when a few players are injured.
mgfabc - June 29, 2008
That's a great question
I wish I knew the answer
bluekoolaide - June 29, 2008
it's a rough patch; nothing more
all teams have them. STL will too
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
hopefully we can give them a rough patch
next week when we play them…
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 29, 2008
sounds good to me
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
Decent farm system and uncanny ability to make nobodies productive?
WartburgCub - June 29, 2008
Right
where does this uncanny ability come from? Can we buy it somewhere?
bluekoolaide - June 29, 2008
Maybe we can trade Marquis for it lol
WartburgCub - June 29, 2008

He had a solid college and minor league career, and now it’s paying off.

Chanman25 - June 29, 2008

we are talking about the cardinals right?

Gah.
Wrong thread. Damn beer.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
True
Funny how no one brings that up when they’re talking about Ankiel’s GREAT STORY
cocknfire - June 29, 2008
You mean like that 2-4 record they posted
against the Royals this season? Or losing two out of three to the Tigers?
The Cardinals have won one more game than the Cubs in this stretch. One.
Do some research before you post, please.

ascanio is good
this team just hits homers.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 29, 2008
No, he was looking decent enough to leave in.
Cubfansince1957 - June 29, 2008
fair enough
was questioning the LHP/RHP thing there, but if the kid was looking good thru first 2 outs, don’t have problem with it
JCD - June 29, 2008
The National League can't come fast enough
WartburgCub - June 29, 2008
in a week were they should have swept both Baltimore and the White Sox
they will only win one….pathetic..
Chanman25 - June 29, 2008
Who was saying that?
I said if the Cubs went 3-3 against the Sox this season, I’d be ecstatic. (Of course, you always want more after you sweep, but …)
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008
i'm not asking you
but they should have swept baltimore with those matchups and hell at least won ONE in this series..
Chanman25 - June 29, 2008
Well, I'm answering you
The Cubs probably should have won one more game against Baltimore and one of the three vs. the White Sox. Anybody who was saying they should have swept both series is crazy.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008
well 4-2 would have been logical
maybe 6-0 was a stretch, but to go 1-5 against the Orioles and White Sox?
Chanman25 - June 29, 2008
"Anybody who was saying they should have swept both series is crazy"
Agreed.
cubsnlinux - June 29, 2008
no name calling..... Al will otherwise but you both in a time out :)
Madison Cub Fan - June 29, 2008
I wasn't calling him a name
But 6-0 against these teams is crazy. 3-3 would have been more realistic.
But even the Cardinals had, what, two eight-game losing streaks when they won the World Series? Enough.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008
People tend to discount the Os, who are a decent team (41-39)
But are in the NL East
cocknfire - June 29, 2008
Absolutely correct
They might be one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008
The A's are up there too
but yeah the O’s are very surprising.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 29, 2008
Actually I think TB is the surprise team of the year
cocknfire - June 29, 2008
I think a lot of people thought TB would be better
but not quite this good.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008
I actually saw them play LAA in Tampa this year
They’re good, and could be for a few years. I like them. Just not when they’re playing the Cubs.
cocknfire - June 29, 2008
Their pitching staff is unreal
And they’ve got some nice young position players, too. I like ‘em.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008

halfblindcubbiegirl - June 29, 2008
this year in baseball is crazy
Teams like the Indians, Mariners, Tigers, and Yankees underachieving, while teams such as the Orioles, Cardinals, Marlins, and Twins overachieve..
Chanman25 - June 29, 2008
Don't forget the Mets
Underachievers as well.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008

what happened with Lou getting kicked out?
DTJchris - June 29, 2008
He argued ball/strike calls in the 2nd.
And he had damn good reason. The home plate ump tonight made yesterday’s ump look fabulous.
Cubfansince1957 - June 29, 2008
Cool, thanks
Was he pretty heated?
DTJchris - June 29, 2008
Actually, he started out, and turned around....
and, as he turned around to go back to the dugout, the ump ran him out. It like the ump really didn’t know wtf he was doing.
Cubfansince1957 - June 29, 2008
It was actually a full checked swing
...if you know what I mean. Lou had every right to argue as it was strike 3.
LAcarl519 - June 29, 2008
The home plate ump tonight made Angel Hernandez look fabulous

halfblindcubbiegirl - June 29, 2008

zevkalman - June 29, 2008
Doesn't look like it worked
DTJchris - June 29, 2008
Actually, if memory serves me
Cubs lost the game that Lou got ejected from last year, then reeled off the best record in baseball for a while
It doesn’t always work right away
cocknfire - June 29, 2008
That's true
For some reason I thought they won last year’s tirade game.
DTJchris - June 29, 2008
I was hoping we could face the best bullpen EVER, EVER
down only two runs. Oh well…
Let’s get this inning over with. :-(
LAcarl519 - June 29, 2008
Too bad the Sox bullpen

The story of this series....
is the Cubs’ inability to hit with men in scoring position. Like yesterday, this game was very winnable.
Cubfansince1957 - June 29, 2008
Yes, that is quite true.
Even though some of the chances were with 2 out, need to cash in sometimes.
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
Too true.
A complete lack of timely hitting in this series. But, to give some props to the Sox, Dye and Crede have made some great defensive plays to keep the Cubs from scoring.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
And they have hit the ball pretty well also.

Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
He can.
Who knows if he will.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
I would think not...but not b/c he got kicked out
cocknfire - June 29, 2008
It'd be cool if he said something that got him fined.
It would be accurate (ie, the umps sucked donkey scrotum, as mentioned by someone earlier tongiht).
Cubfansince1957 - June 29, 2008
Maybe Al will fine me for saying that.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
I'll chip in just because it's kinda funny
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
I'll appeal. It'll drag on all season, and never be resolved,
kinda like Matt Kemp and Coco Crisp’s suspensions.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
Marshall pitched well
at least we did not waste Zambrano – on this 1 output effort.

Does anyone know what kind of streak DeRosa's in?
It seems he hasn’t been hitting well lately, but I’ll get attacked if I make an uneducated, false claim.
WartburgCub - June 29, 2008
He got a crucial RBI hit yesterday.
Cubfansince1957 - June 29, 2008
hitting .256 this month, 20 hits, 17 singles and 3 HRs
DC Cubbie - June 29, 2008

Yep. That's it.
zevkalman - June 29, 2008
Yep. Geo had one of those yesterday.
I’m okay, we’re still walking, still hitting. Just frustrating not to have anything drop.
slcathena - June 29, 2008
Derosa must have been hanging out with Cedeno
DC Cubbie - June 29, 2008
or Theriot
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
and they were both tutored by Alou
JB 23 - June 29, 2008
Of course, you mean Theriot, as he, not Cedeno,
was the only other runner to be doubled off base tonight.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
Damn it
I hate the Sux
DTJchris - June 29, 2008

3-3 in the season series
About what I thought, but not how I though. Tip your caps. The White Sox are pretty darned good.
But so are the Cubs.
The second half of this season is gonna be a lot of fun, methinks.

Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
Agreed.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
Yep
We need to get our players back, hope nobody else get hurts…and please get back to playing fundamental baseball…no more gaffes in the outfield, no more base running blunders, right players cover the bag… etc…
A lot of people wonder why the Cardinals are winning….they are getting good enough pitching and the catch the ball and they run the bases well… Going to win more than you lose when you play like that.
TheRiot Police - June 29, 2008
Give credit to...
White Sox defense and bullpen-one of the best in baseball. Cubs swept last weekend. Nothing to be ashamed about.

I remember they went through a stint in May where they didn’t score a single run for a couple of games!
Chanman25 - June 29, 2008
i meant the hype
not just our play during the series… just the hype of “who ya got”. its just too much.
halfblindcubbiegirl - June 29, 2008
Giants scored 11 today,
so maybe they left their bats in Oakland. Let’s try to feast on them and get healthy before we head to St Louis for the weekend. We need no less than 3 of 4 in the Bay Area.
Go Cubs!!
LAcarl519 - June 29, 2008
John Miller

Cub Fan Mike - June 29, 2008

Chanman25 - June 29, 2008
probably true
I think as biased fans, we notice more when things are against us or seem to be.
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
Sox played one hell of a series.
Hast tip tot hem. Let’s hope the Cubs can get the offense going again. Let’s go beat the Giants so Jon Miller will shut his fat mouth. Good night, all.

parrotinct - June 29, 2008
And they catch the ball
and They have a great pitching coach…
I did mention this other day and have never spent anytime looking into it…but it seems that Cardinals have caught the back end of a team’s rotation a bunch of times. When your current pitching staff consists of a bunch of 3,4,5 guys it makes it easier to win when you are facing like talent.
TheRiot Police - June 29, 2008
Well, we'll put that theory to the test, with Zambrano, Lilly, and Dempster this coming weekend
WartburgCub - June 29, 2008
Well it will be Marquis not Dempster...
TheRiot Police - June 29, 2008
Oops! My mistake...
WartburgCub - June 29, 2008
They also played the Royals
who, despite their recent streak, aren’t very good. And they beat the Cardinals four out of six.
Really, during this entire bad stretch, the Cubs have lost only one game to the Cards.
Still, the Cards have a great organization, much as I hate to admit it.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008
Oh come on....
You don’t hate to admit it…......you DESPISE to admit it…..it maks your blood boil…and it really sucks….......
kcjones - June 29, 2008
Agreed.
WartburgCub - June 29, 2008
Other than Michael Brenly, of course
WartburgCub - June 29, 2008
I really don't tink this is a great organization
Its just a bunch of overachieving players. Schumaker, Ludwick, LaRue (wtf?), and Miles are players that I GUARANTEE you thought these players wouldn’t be doing as good. Same goes with Wellemeyer, Looper, and co.
Chanman25 - June 29, 2008
and there number 1 starter is Kyle freaking Lohse!
Chanman25 - June 29, 2008
I was trying to be nice
but yeah, you’re right. I’d rather be in a gay porno film (not that there ’s anything wrong with that) than be a Cardinals fan.

During football season…...especially after the Bears just had a bad game (no dis here….I’m a huge Bear fan)....nothing like that and a cup of coffee to get ya goin on an earlly November morning…...
kcjones - June 29, 2008
Wait until you hear the radio tomorrow.
The Sox fans will be vying for WS ticket giveaways and the Cub fans will be trading the whole team for CC Sabathia.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
Perspective, sadly, is lacking
on WSCR and on WMVP.
If this series had ended 3-3 and each team won once at the other’s park, would the reactions be that extreme, I wonder?
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008
I buy what your saying....
But there is also something to be said about momentum….
kcjones - June 29, 2008
Momentum?
Momentum is what makes your heels come up off the ground when you try to pee with a “Harden.” It has nothing to do with this recent Cubs-Sox series.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
Probably.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
Yea!!!!!!

Sadly, no, I haven't.
I should probably stop looking for them at the bottom of beer bottles.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
damn. I started looking after the seventh.
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
*TRUCE*
please keep posting…
I picked ur screen name out of a bunch of inane comments (I make them too) earlier…...
My memories of Varsho is he was another clown on a late 70’s early 80’s Cub team with no aspiration….(not player w/ no aspiration…team w/ no aspiration)......
I’m sick and tired of the losing….and wish more fanss felt like I do.
kcjones - June 29, 2008
Varsho played for the Cubs
from 1988-1990. He was supposed to be the next 3B guy, but never panned out. He’s probably most memorable for having a 4-4 or 5-5 performance against the Cubs as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
gary varsho - June 29, 2008
I remember him as a pretty decent pinch-hitter
and being from WI, of course!
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
of course, the memory could be playing tricks on me
re: his pinch hitting record
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
I was wrong....
but you just made my point.
kcjones - June 29, 2008
You had a point?
gary varsho - June 30, 2008
I think we're all sick of it, kc
But we’ve got to be a bit realistic about the ebbs and flows of a season, too.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008

Can’t let it bug you too much. We should vent while it is happening - preferably rationally - and move on to the next game after the current one is over.
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
He knows Scotch, though
Shanghai Badger - June 29, 2008
Hitting, pitching and belief.
With the first two weighted about a zillion times more than the third.
The Cards have won seven and lost nine their last sixteen games. Good Lord, what IS their secret? Oh, right, they aren’t very good.
The American League just got done destroying the National League in inter-league play. It’ll be good for the Cubs to get back to playing a kinder gentler style of ball.
the nth - June 29, 2008
Scouting
Definitely a big part of it. StL prepares as well as any team out there.
CaliCub - June 29, 2008
You can prepare all you want......
How well do the million$aires listen?
kcjones - June 29, 2008
Pretty Loud 'n Clear
if ya asked me!
CaliCub - June 29, 2008
That is probably more than 1/2 right....
BUT….it’s always easier to get eager younger lower contract people to listen than…..
My guess is some of the “big guns” comppletely ignore scouting reports and get themselves mired in avoidable slumps…...
kcjones - June 29, 2008
Point Well Taken
Luckily for their sakes, Pujols hasn’t copped an attitude on LaRussa.
CaliCub - June 29, 2008
Though I wish he would...:)

2) All of the A holes like Miller in the Media will have nothing to say
parrotinct - June 29, 2008
Zito vs. Lilly tomorrow night
Lilly’s a fly-ball pitcher in a park that’s hard to hit HRs in, and Zito is…well, less than stellar. Hopefully, it’ll start us off to a successful week.

gary varsho - June 29, 2008
LAcarl519 - June 29, 2008
Well, what a difference a week makes...
...we dismantled the Sox last week, 22 – 11, and were dismantled this week, 21 – 9.

Who Do The
Cards and Brewers play while the Cubs play SF?
CaliCub - June 29, 2008
Good match-ups...
...Brewers will be at Arizona, and they won’t throw Sheets, but will face Davis/Ownings/Johnson/Webb, which is great news for us. The Thursday game is 8-2 Parra vs 12-4 Webb.
...and the Cardinals host the Mets for four games, but will miss Santana thanks to a doubleheader on Friday that changed their rotation a bit. Cardinals are gonna take that series, IMO.
Dan
dtpollitt - June 29, 2008
Pretty astute analysis
I’ll say Cubs take three of four. Oddly, I think they’ll beat Lincecum (after all, they did last year … :)
Not Bruce Froemming - June 29, 2008
Not to mention that before the all-star break...
we have 4
San Fran, 3Cards, then a 6 game home stand with the Reds and Giants. Barring that Cardinals series, we can make a good lil streak of wins here – 9-4 or 10-3, anyone? 6/7 or 5/7 Giants, 1/3 or 2/3 Cards, and a sweep of the Reds?Dan

We need two frontline starters in the rotation to even be considered national league favorites because what we have now is only good enough to get by for now
CubsBall2202 - June 30, 2008
Pretty sure Jim Hendry knows that and is working on it...

CubsBall2202 - June 30, 2008
The other thought on that.....
All that said…you gotta score to win….

After that, Johnson, Soriano and Zambrano should be back, and this team can focus on the stretch run because it’s going to go right down to the wire again.
nmcubsfan - June 30, 2008
Tampa Bay is a really good team.
And Baltimore are 2 games over .500 in a very tough division, division that Tampa Bay plays in, as well. The Sox murder people at home, and they are a good team. The Cub made crucial defensive and pitching mistakes in all three of those series, and they paid for it.
gary varsho - June 30, 2008
Tampa Bay isn’t that good...
Really?
Follow baseball much?

Defense? check.

Yeah, they have a crap-ass field to play on, but they play decent on the road too.
I agree that they should have performed better against the O’s. Pitching was atrocious for the Cubs.

T Raysq
I get a lot of the Rays games…... they have a very good team which could go all the way
Teams come to play the Rays and UNDERESTIMATE them….. they think they are the
Rays of the past…........... NO WAY
nimblenikelfoos - June 30, 2008
