Can we get new WGN comercials?

Who do we have to blow to make this happen

I'm a big Corner Gas fan, its the new Seinfeld
LET'S GET SOME RUNS!!!!

Overflow luck!!!!

Attention: Cain has a shut out going!
Maybe you need to lead us in prayer for some runs?
Anyone else have

two new game threads up?

hmmm? what do you mean?
yep, both overflows up at once

what should we do?

I would just stay

in this one and then we can move to the other one at 11:15.

My page shows

two new game threads and both say 9:15 pm.

Okay, this is what we do...

...stay in here til 1115, then move over to the other one…I bet they were just posted at the same time on accident?

sounds like a plan
Let's just get some dadgum runs.
Len: Marquis sat last 13 in a row down
Dome taking some really bad swings lately.
Yeah, he's been lookin' pretty shaky.

I blamed it on the fact he was facing a lefty yesterday. But he still looks bad tonight.

he's a lead off hitter

they’re going to make an emphasis to get him out.

Is it okay

to say the Fuku strikes out to much?

Perfectly ok, but in fairness nobody has looked good tonight
thanks.

But I am not just talking about tonight.

I get what your saying. He hasn't looked the greatest at the plate recently.

I would think he needs to get somewhere in the lineup with a bit more protection.

i think its a BCB rule

that Dome is exempt from any criticism

No one is exempt.
Maybe, but I wouldn't bad mouth Geo in here if I were you.

:P

Too much for what?
Dear God,

i’d like for the Cubs to score here, any chance you could nudge that into motion, please?

love,
me

Why the prayer tonight?

Not sayin I object … it’s just something new, and I’m wondering if I missed anything

no idea
You could be our Harriet Hayes if it worked

:: waits to see if anyone catches reference ::

It worked earlier, when Marquis was all over the place with his pitches.

Us desperate Cubs fans will try anything.

Cain is dealing now.

He looks unhittable.

When we are hitting him (see DLee's last ab)....

we’re hitting them at people. DLee ripped that one.

Lewis robs Lee of a hit in left. 3 outs.
he played that like Edmonds

no dive needed, yet dives anyways

Its just that kinda night when you rip balls right at guys.
twss
no no no
twss
dude

no

I'd ask you to explain this one

But I think I would be very, very afraid of the answer

good lord, can we even get another hit
I think it's about time for this:

MATT CAIN HAS DISCOVERED A CURE FOR CANCER

Before or after he saved that

ship full of puppies from sinking?

matt cain

is my hero

Cain has everything to do with

the Cubs not looking good. He’s pitching a masterpiece.

And Marquis is pitching pretty darned well, too.

and in his spare time

he’s superman

let's get some hits....

we’ve gotten alot of hits this year after two outs…..

sigh

I’m inpatient tonight.

Is it my internet, or is Gameday way off tonight?
way off

skipping batters and stuff

Well I'm here now

so good luck will come out way.

Wait, I’ve been saying that since 1954!

leadoff double
over Jims head, ground rule double to lead off inning
Honey, touch of sugar...

I think I am going to kill myself.

Ground rule double for Lewis.
one out, man on 3rd
Need a K here.
runner on 3rd

less than 2 outs.

mommy id odn’t feel so hot.

Winn singles 2-0 GIants
Len jinxed it, and that could be all Cain needs tonight.
Frack. I don't want to lose to these guys.
Boy Marquis knows how to get those guys off the base

quickly.

Winn laces a base hit, 2-0 Giants.

And this, ladies and gents is how a patented Jason Marquis Meltdown begins.

Granted...

...we haven’t helped him out at all tonight, either

Not on offense, anyway.
you'll always say that when you're getting shut out
Yep, 2-0 is a "meltdown"

Shutouts every game or else!

9-0 every game or else!!!
So is last night's game a FAIL?
Agreed, Bruce

MArquis is a 5th starter. He ain’t getting any help. Especially when guys keep swinging at balls off the plate (Ward, Cedeno, et. al.)

Have been some bad swings, e, I agree

but the way Cain’s pitching, I don’t thnk it matters much.

thats the game unless we can figure out that crap stain cain

Hey, that rhymes!
I'm sorry

we’re down two runs, it isn’t the game, it isn’t the season, it is only two stinkin’ runs.

:(

Let’s get a double play here, and then rock Cain in the 7th. Ground balls marquis…ground balls.

we need a DP
TWSS
didnt see that comin

when i posted that

THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT, FOLKS

THANK YOU, VARSHO

You are very welcome.
Takes an veteran poster here at BCB to show all the newbies how the TWSS-ing is done around here!
well um I hate to burst your bubble here

but i’ve been on this board much longer..

Wha?

I wasn’t dissing anyone??

And the way to tell who’s been here since the beginning is to click on that persons name, and check their UID – lower the number, the longer s/he’s been here.

Dan

Oddly enough...

My UID is 921, and your’s is 1840 – almost half! We’re like brothers!

woah..

thats spooky!

thru 6, cain's at 81 pitches

that seems like a lot, is it?

about 15/inning

Prolly means he gets the 7th, maybe the 8th if they want to stretch him and the Cubs don’t get to him

I am out of beer

Any of you live in Roland and wanna help a Cub Fan out?

Your name's PATRON...figure it out
Lot's of anger

I think.?.
But I don’t get it.

Patron=Tequilla
Thank you.

I dumb

Lemme help...

...do you have a brother named CUSTOMER?

rowland heights, ca?
Roland, ia
our boys are looking tired..no energy
Excellent starting pitching

will do that to a club. I don’t think they’re tired at all.

so excellent starting pitching would make a club look lethargic/tired/sleepy ...oh..thanks Yoda!
It is not "Excellent SP" ..Cain is pitching a "Good" game and our hitters are swinging at everything

that catches their eye. It’s so amazing how you certify the opposite team’s pitching as “Excellent” every time our offense struggles.

Not every time ...

But I’ve been watching this game. Have you?

And every time the offense struggles, you blame it on the team being tired and lacking energy. Maybe they should take some Geritol, just to make you happy.

Geritol?! Why that could lead to senate hearings!
OH, GAWD!!!!!!!!!

THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY WILL NO ONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!

Yes I am watching this game Bruce..May be you need to take it easy on that koolaide.

Were you a male cheer leader during your HS days?

dude

chill

same 2 you..
i'm fine

but i’m trying to warn you that fighting with not bruce is NOT the way you want to spend your evening.

Guys fight nice otherwise Al will give you both a time out :)
Off base.

No need to get personal.

Platform time

Negative Nellies: Less filling

Holier-Than-Thou: Great taste

Immature Clowns: Who the h#ll cares? It’s beer!

hee hee

that one never gets old.

I was just thinking that same thing.

how can it not make you giggle

They’re staging a Caine Mutiny (budda bing)

Yeah, it's like they woke up from that ugly first inning....

in order to take a nap. DLee has looked good. Dome and Ward have not.

mighgt take me a while
I thought they would be tired yesterday, with the night flight and all

but they do look lethargic tonight instead

Marquis suddenly is fooling no one
Marquis hasn't been fooling anyone.

Lot of deep fly outs this game.

Well he fooled

Hendry – OUT OF $21MM!!!

not to defend him but hes pitched a lot better than I thought he was
seriously

2 runs through 7 is not bad at all. Only 3 hits. Cut the kid some slack, even the best pitchers need run support

Uh, we're not quite through six yet.

But I don’t disagree—Marquis almost has himself a quality start.

ah, sorry.

my bad twas a typo.

this is the worst lineup in the league in a pitchers park

those factors must be taken into account

So they've been shutout every ball game???

Look at the bright side—we’re 50% through that contract

has a ball been caught at the track?
Yes, in CF and in RF
BB spending too much time thinking about other men's facial hair
That taxi cab story was kinda funny, though.
Look, I'm not exactly a Marquis fan

but 2 runs isn’t exactly AWFUL

great minds think alike +1
Come on

unless he pitches a shut-out every time out he sucks. Don’t make excuses.

Agreed..

Quality start.

Hard to see where that pitch missed...
litte high

according to gameday

However, looking back

the FA pitchers were: Zito, Schmidt, Padillo, MArquis, Meche, and Lilly. I did this from memory…Hendry picked two…

Nice company for Ted. He looks like a HOFer

I mean

“PADILLA”

let's call the whole thing off...
Harden is pitching tonight.

Wanna bet bluemike is watching that game instead of the cubs one lol

well he does have a "harden" for him
Still trying figure out how many GUESS HACK HITTERS

we’d have to give up to get him

“Would just Lee be enough, or should we throw in that worthless Ramirez as well?”

brew get one back 8-5
Marquis is losing it.
DeRosa also mentioned

on ESPN 1000 today, that missing the injured ones + A-Ram, really puts the team at a disadvantage. They are “superstars” for a reason.

yeah because thats news

no shit they miss the big guns

so do the red sox

look how bad they have been since ortiz left

At least he acknowledged

that his 3 for 35 until last night stunk.

um.

yeah. why is this news? did you think he was happy to be playing so poorly?

I'm goign to go out on limb and say

Larry didn’t tell Jason to throw a 60 foot splitter.

I think it's important to note the difference between process and results.

Marquis has been getting good results so far this game (subject to change as I write this). But that’s not the same as pitching well.

Come on Marquis. one more.

Do we have anyone up? I’m getting nervous.

I'm so glad that was John Bowker

and not a major league hitter.

Batter bailed out Jason there.

Nothing filthy about Marquis’ pitch. The batter had just made up his mind to swing no matter what.

Does this team have bullpen worth talking about?

I know about Brian Wilson, but what else?

the rest is merely

pet sounds

+1

I bet Wilson gets that a lot.

*pshew*

That was close.

Let’s go postal on Cain now and break this game wide open.

Edmonds time!
I actually feel bad

and respect Edmonds. His foot/leg is really bothering him.
.
.
.
.
I love watching D Ward run

at least make Cain throw some pitches here
At the risk of being redundant....

did you know Cain has a shutout going?

you mean, no runs?

no way!

I'm looking forward

to Edmonds facing the Redbirds…

Dave Matthews band - apparently this year's tour has been pretty shitty

sucks because they are a really good band

They were.

Really haven’t liked them since after Busted Stuff.

busted stuff was a great album

but stand up…yuck

Most of their live shows have been good..
Hey give em a break - LeRoi was in critical care yesterday after an ATV accident
true

atleast tim is along on the tour though

The new songs from the new album, that they have been showcasing for a year and a half are all GREAT

Sister
Shotgun?!
Corn Bread?!
Kill the King
Break Free

shotgun, cornbread, and break free are good

eh hee and idea of you are good tracks too

I haven't like them

since they shat all over Chicago.

lol

so much for them being environmentalists

DWARYLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
RUN WARD RUN!
double for D Ward
So, for Kosuke that a 3B, right?

Not to criticize Ward, but he’s not fleet of foot

I think only Soto and Ward don't make it 3 bases right there
That's maybe even a triple for Soto.
Good rip, Daryle.

But man, you are slow.

Lets go Soto
any other player would had three there
that's a triple for most everyone in the lineup 2night..
Courtesy runner, please...
Oh good

a runner on 2d. I leaving them out there

woohoo!!!!!!

LEAD OFF DOUBLE!!! Go GEO!!!!!

That would have been

an inside the park for Dome! LOL

Was Soto taking a nap or what..
as Bob said..unproductive out
Soto Ks, not sure what the hell he was lookng for there
looking for a pillow
Geo must have been guessing curve on that last pitch.

It sure was right down the pipe. Almost a mistake pitch.

Where's lswaidz?

We need the Hough

LOL

milk almost splattered acrossed my laptop on that one.

Not a good swing from Jim there...
you can say that again
stop swinging at the pitch Edmonds
Ward pissed Cain off.
I was thinkin' the same thing.
C'mon! Get one run at least!!!!
badger!

hi!

Whew. Taht was a CLOSE pitch.
Part of me is starting to wonder who's third on the Cubs depth chart at short.

Part of me figures that if I don’t already know, the answer can’t be any good.

DeRosa
I'm sure for a game or so that would work.

If Theriot ends up on the DL, though, I think the Cubs would either have to call SOMEONE up or start working Fontenot out at short.

...oh no.

thats the only answer i know of

 but i’m no expert

with Fonty a distant fourth

I remember the Fonty at SS experiment lasted all of one game last year. Actually less than that – I think Lou yanked him after only a few innings.

didnt he move DeRo

over there in the middle of the inning?

Yep
i think the only inning DeRo

played at short last year

I think you're right.
dang..edmonds..almost..
Any other ballpark we have a tie ball game
Oracle of Cincinnati: Only at Wrigley, because there's Banks Boulevard there
holy crap what a great catch!
oh so close, just missed that
Rowand is such a jackass.

He took a full extra step to hit the wall.

well

considering who hit the ball…

Getting Ward to 3rd would have helped...
Frack, to the deepest part of the park.

And the only guy in MLB who doesn’t take third after the catch is Ward.

thats a run if Soto had his head out of ass tonight
What makes you think Ward could take third on a ground ball?
Another good point
Remember, it'd be Mr. Nimble there trying to go home on it
That...sucked.
alright..looks like another wasted lead off double
leadoff 2b

and no one even moves him over.

dammit

That might have been another cheap homerun at Wrigley...

...Ernie Banks made a career that way don’t ya know

dang..that was ball four
MR. STOMACH FLU IS GETTING READY.

The miracle of Immodium.

I'm thinking it was just a case of the Irish Flu
Theriot looks available to PH, hope we need it
I can't wait for our players to be back so we can have that strong 7-8 combo again.

Soto-DeRosa>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Fontenot-Cedeno

What about Lilly?
Well that is a given when he starts, we should just bat him leadoff.
a triple now in a triples park can tie this game

Surprise that wasnt a strike, ump needs to get his head out of his ass

Bringing the power off the bench
Time for Theriot to smack a double.
Kind of scary to learn that TheRiot is available to Pinch Hit
He HAS to stay in the game here.
double scary
God forbid his flu should return.

THEN what the hell are the Cubs going to do? I really don’t like this move.

"And now, playing SS, Carlos Marmol"
Ward in Left and TheRiot at Short..Wow..
Even scarier to think that he is going to
that was ball one
that is a ball
no

that was high

Always stare at belt-high fastballs.

No one ever hits those.

First pitch to the Riot looked high.
it's a fine line between Scrappy and Crappy

wonder which one this will be…

Really dude?

The guy is batting freaking .313. Give him a damn break. Christ.

Man, I hope

Hendry can trade Cedeno for something useful…he is out of options.

I don't why the heck the giants are booing.that was like a foot off the plate
that was a strike
wasted oppertunity again..
I guess it's scrappy not to swing.
The ump did The Riot no favors on that ab.
true..but knowing that...that 3rd called strike was tooooo close to take..
great pitch

shoulda swung

that one was too close to take
too close to take

::bangs head against wall:: Damn it!!!

Way to watch the called 3rd..TheRiot

actually TheRiot is kind of pissed that he won’t get a chance for Caught Stealing..

Guys generally don't swing as well off the bench.

Which is another reason I don’t like this. Even if you think Theriot is better than Cedeno, he’s ice cold, which negates much of the advantage.

that was not a strike

on gameday. damn

Sadly, I think Gameday was wrong
it looked good to me

especially with 2 strikes

that was too close to take..unfortunately the home plate umpire doesn't look at gameday before calling

strikes

Everyone now please join me in a prayer for the health and safety...

...of Ryan Theriot’s stomach.

dear god

please make ryan’s tummy feel okay. we need him.

love,
me

I think it might work better if you capitalize God
we're cool like that

he gets me

-1
You want to see a Fontenot/DeRosa/Patterson infield?
As in Stinkers to Nevers to Fat Chance???
LOL

Well played, sir

Man this is almost making up for me missing church lately ;)
It's your fault the Cubs have been bit by the injury bug!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I kinda

am rooting for the flu.

Meh.

we all know what “stomach flu” is baseball code for….

aka

“farnsworth disease”?

Firestarter?
I don't! Share!
hangover
Much as I hate to admit it but I don't.

Unless PrincetonCubs is right.

It means Theriot was a bit in the cups last night.
Yeah, but its not the sort of thing that gets better when you run the bases.

I’m sure you’ve experienced that feeling during morning PT.

More than once. Not good. We called them "Whiskey Trots."
:(

That hurt.

I was wrong - it ended up being a fine line between Ump and Chump

too close to take but dang if it wasn’t in the same spot as the previous pitch.

Looked like a strike to me...
Cain's at 102 pitches.
2 more to go

we will get it done!

garbage pure garbage

ok

i take it back

Honest question

why PH for Cedeno? with the tying run on 1st and 2 outs, you need contact or god willing an XBH… can’t Cedeno do that?

He's actually more likely to get the XBH than Theriot...
i know

thats why i’m confused

One would think. It was an odd move.
Agreed...

If you’re subbing for a position player, that’s a bad sign. Especially if that position player bats from the same side of the plate.

It's really bad because we're short-handed right now.
It's very unlike Lou to do something crazy ;)
It's also the kind of thing you do when someone's about to be dealt.

Yep, I went there. I started some rampant, baseless speculation.

Oh no you di'int!
But I bet Kaplan liked it!

argh

It seems like..

...Onedec is dead. I barely even remember what he looked like. Maybe Lou knows the Onedec ride is over.

Okay, now I'm on the flu's side
only I want it for DeRo
Why, so we can see Eric Patterson play third?
Just a moment of anger ... is over now
Wow DeRo was trying to get it done unassisted or what?

I thought he was trying to run to 1st and tag out the runner

I'm going to bed, this isn't nearly as fun as last night's adventures...
night
See ya friends

let that dillhole stand out on base now

Well as frustrated Marquis has made me tonight...

...he’s kept the Cubs in the game

Yeah, I don't think you can blame this on Marquis.

He’s actually pitched well, though against a mediocre lineup.

Which is more than the offense can say
6 outs to go..Just 2 runs needed to tie the ball game

LETS GET SOME F’N RUNS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

everybody on their feet!!!
Yeah..Lou might call one of us to Pinch Hit
okay, who pinch hits for Marquis here?
Big Z..Just kidding..
i wish

i miss the big fella.

Friday he is back.

Thats right around the corner!

He's a better hitter than he is pitcher...

...and our bench is short. Let him hit for himself.

I can't believe it's only 10 after 11

Tonight’s been so long and tense.

Rally caps!!!

Did you know the Giants have a shutout?

what's a shutout?

is that like when you are pitching so awesomely the other team isn’t able to score runs? wow, I bet those things NEVER get broken up!

PLEASE get some runs!!!!
might be best to let him hit
I would like to see a triple from EPat
Or we could use our last infield reserve as a PHer.
Hopefully Patterson sold his decal for a hit
EPat with the "stealth" batting helmet.
moments like this

i really miss sori and z. :sigh: get healthy boys

and reed. which should be back on thursday
Before I hit the sack...why doesn't everyone jump over to the new thread...hell, it's almost 1115 pm...

...and FIRST! is still open for the taking…

damn..that was not a strike..but the umpire never looks at game day ..damn
Cain pwning Cub hitters.
Okay, so who's interested in seeing Matt Murton play third base?
Me!

That would be fun bad.

oh goody please can we
I can tolerate Ward and Left..but Murton at 3rd would be stretching it..phewww
whiff

Bat on shoulder again!

Boy, that looks like a W I D E strike zone.
it is

very.

forgive me

forgive me if someone else mentioned this already, but does it seem like we are now starting to feel the bullseye on our back? seems like the opposing fans know about are record and get extra pumped when we come to town….wonder how much this has to do with our road record

Not sure what the Cubs hitters are waiting for
a pitch they can hit?

theyre in the zone

Way to go

Corey….............oops…..........I mean Eric

Dome is overmatched against Cain
Cain is filthy right now.
Looking like stooges!!
This is total pwnage.
ya gotta be kiddin me

**!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's move to

the new game thread

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a play! Derosa stung that ball and Castillo makes a great snag and a better throw. Just…wow.

man that was a lucky play
I do not want this

team going into St. Louis batting like this…sweepsville!!!

How many backwards K's tonight?
4
Perhaps aa little too patient at the plate.....
and that was'nt a strike?
Bravo Marquis

4 hits.

Brewers pulling ever closer.

HEAL CUBBIES HEAL. Sori. Reed. Z.

This is the kinda game that just pisses you off...

And Kouske needs to get a friggin hit.

needs to at least make contact
I isn't just Kouske....

I only see two hits up and down the box score…...(just started watching)

He hasn't hit at all lately..
Brewers will

be 4.5 games out after tonight…

-1

not over yet

It MAY take 95+

wins this year to win the Central! Who would’ve thought it?!

Looks like walks in the 1st...

cost Marquis a run….but other than that he settled down and threw a good start

YES!!!

there we go!!

LETS GO CUBBIES !!!!!!!!!!!!!

uncle ward needs some cracking to do!
I know we all like home runs.....

but I like the pressure this triple puts on the defense….....follow it with a sdouble …andd then another double…..

OK 1/2 way there......

Wish he was on 2ns though…

1ST pitch for cripes sake

and now they have audio problems

half way there
living on a prayer!
why no pinch runner for soto?
no one is left..
Still alive
As long as Lou doesn't use

BLANCO!

What a hard position to be in.

Riot battled, man. Fought him off but in the end, power wins. Riot guessed breaking and 95 went past him.

Blame it on the piss poor hitting tonight, not Riot.

Tough battle

we finished on the wrong side of this one.

See all of you tomorrow!

He's usually dead meat

w/2 strikes. HE probably is really sick, too…

sigh

Brewers now 4.5out

Cards 2.5

Slip sliding away…

We didn't lose any ground tonight.

Don’t go slitting your wrists just yet.

No kidding...

let’s delay the firesale until after the All-Star Break.

We did... to the brewers.

I am more concerned about the brew crew than about the dead birds

It's dead turds.....

Please don’t don then any undo disrespect

Absolute lack of clutch hitting over the last 5 games excluding yesterday.
Brewers gained a full

game.

Its a long season. This team HAS to learn how to win on the road more consistently.

This team has to execute better.

They are still not fundamentally sound. Not getting Ward over and in after a lead off double in the 7th cost them the chance at the win.

If the White Sox sweep the Indians

the Sabathia sweepstakes will begin.

Begin the begin

The CC sweepstakes may begin now after losing the series to the Sox. CC is pitching tomorrow in the final game against the Sox. IF the Indians are inclined to trade CC I don’t think a win tomorrow changes that. In fact it may be in their interest to have CC pitch well tomorrow and win.

Bench Strength

Logically it should improve once Soriano, ARam, and Johnson return to the fold, but still it might be worth pursuing a couple more solid bats to solidify the bench and spell the regulars twice a week. Guys like Frank Catalanatto and Brad Hawpe come to mind.

Tough loss

Both pitchers are off-and-on types and we came on the short end of that stick.

I was watching the game while listening to the A’s/Angels, so I was pretty baseballed up.
