Bleed Cubbie Blue

The Return Of The BCB T-Shirt

It's baaaaaaaaaack!
Click on image to open a larger version in a new browser window

No, don't be afraid -- this time it's going to be much easier, and you'll get your shirt in a timely fashion, or, if you are in Chicago, you can go and buy one in person.

How? Here's how. You've seen the ads for Strange Cargo pop up on this site from time to time over the last month or so (you may even be seeeing one right now, they've been around this morning). For those of you who aren't familiar with this store, it sells T-shirts and other miscellany and is located a couple of blocks south of Wrigley Field at 3448 N. Clark St.

Jay Schwartz of Strange Cargo and I have organized this deal to be as simple as possible. The shirt, as pictured above, is identical to last year's shirt, which a lot of people who didn't get one said they wanted. It also has the "BELIEVE PROJECT 3000" logo on the back. The shade of blue is slightly different, but it will still go well with all your other Cubs gear.

You can go to the store and buy one for $20 plus tax -- that's $22.50 total, and take it home right away. Or, if you are not in the Chicago area and can't get to Strange Cargo's store, you can order it online. The online price is the same -- $20, plus tax, and $5 for shipping, $27.50 total.

You can order your shirt by clicking on this link. Best of all, as you can see on that page, $8 from every shirt purchase will be donated to Derrek Lee's Project 3000, which has already seen $1450 donated from generous BCB readers from last year's shirt sale and pledges made about player performances in 2007. I'll also update the BCB Project 3000 Fundraiser link that's permanently on the right sidebar so the shirt-ordering link will always be handy after this post passes off the front page.

I'll keep everyone updated on how many shirts get sold and how much we contribute to this worthy cause.

You asked, so here it is. Go get yours today!

Sweet!

Will be back in the neighborhood in a couple weeks and will definitely swing by and get one.

Good work

Thanks, Al, for making this happen. I imagine there are a lot of people who missed them the first time through, and it’s great that the ordering (and delivery) process will be so easy. Thanks again.

sick shirts… they really look good.

I especially like the handcuffs ;-}
TWSS

No, seriously, read her post!

See

to me, it still looks like a moose.

Same here.
seriously

i guess i missed this conversation last time around…but if it’s not a moose what is it?

It's similar to the old bear logo.

All I can see is an insect face...

the lower part of the bear cub face from the retro logo
from the alternate logo used 1979-93

image from http://www.sportslogos.net/team.php?id=54

I stand corrected.

That’s the one I looked for, and when I found the one I did I thought maybe my memory was failing me.

Cheers.

Maybe this link will work

last try at getting this to work - errrr

If not, I give up and you can click here

This one, I believe...

Al, thanks

I was upset I didn’t get one last year (was it a year ago already?).

Ordering mine today.

Just bought mine

on-line – Cool.

are you going to pick up or have it shipped?

because I can’t get the “wanna change shipping?” button to work in either Firefox or IE. Looks like I’ll have to call the store.

Yes, I had it shipped

But I checked out through paypal, and paypal filed all of that in for me

thanks I'll try it that way
store?

Where is the store located?

As Al said in his post
For those of you who aren’t familiar with this store, it sells T-shirts and other miscellany and is located a couple of blocks south of Wrigley Field at 3448 N. Clark St.
3448 N. Clark St

HERE

Good looking shirt...

is there a limited number? (i.e. is there a chance they’ll run out if we don’t buy one in the next week or so?)

No, they have the artwork and can make as many as are needed.
Thanks Al!

Just bought mine… Was going to stop and see you last Sunday but got sidetracked, then settled in for the game ended up in the front row right center… Thanks for making these available and having some of the proceeds go to a good cause!

I will purchase right

neow

I lied,

I’m actually going to ride my bike there tonight after work.

Hooray, the Ads are Back!

Liking the ladies hawking their wares, as it were.

$8 for project 3000 for each shirt is awesome!

Love the shirt.

Nicely done Al.

Can’t wait to wear mine to a game.

bellissimo!

n/t

Al...

is there a time availability on these t-shirts?

As in...

will they be around for a few weeks, months, etc.?

No, there's no time limit...

... as I said above, the store has the artwork and can make as many as they need to.

I'll be representing BCB

at the Hawaii Winter League beginning Sept.

International Shipping!

Hey, they even ship internationally. Sure, you’ll pay a bit more for shipping and customs, but… you still get the shirt (and more money goes to Project 3000).

you know what would be pretty cool....

and I’m pretty sure it would cost too much or involve too much, but it would be really cool to put our BCB names on the back like a Jersey… When I get this shirt, I might just bring it to a place to sew on “SouthsideCUBSfan” on the back… therefore we would be recognized at the games or what not..

and it would leave people with the chance to continue their arguments in person

For Example: If sackings saw me at wrigley and noticed my “SouthsideCUBSfan” name on the back, I would guarentee he comes to me to argue about Theriot… I like this idea. THANKS AL for putting this up, Im looking forward to represent our hood

Not sewn,

but I am sure at Strange Cargo they can put your name on the back of the shirt. We get our softball t-shirts from there every year for work. They do great work.

YUP

You can also buy iron on letters from ebay pretty cheap. Maybe it’s time to take on a new and improved screen name. Maybe: Sangre Azul

Actually

I am almost sure Strange Cargo could do this for you at a n extra charge. I ahve had shirts made there they are great.

Looking at Strange Cargo's Web site...

...they have a special screen for custom lettering. And if you look under the pull down menu for “1. Shirt Style”, there is an option for “Bleed Cubbie Blue Fruit of the Loom.”

Now I’m assuming if you choose that option you’ll get the full BCB shirt with whatever “On the Back” lettering you choose. Al, does this sound right to you? Or maybe I should e-mail the store to confirm?

I'd confirm

but that’s probably it. How much does it cost?

The site says...

...50 cents a letter. That particular custom lettering page says they charge $15 per shirt, but I would assume the $20 price for the BCB shirt applies.

I dunno, actually.

Call or email the store to ask.

NEVERMIND, I guess.

I just checked the custom lettering page again, and now the “Bleed Cubbie Blue Fruit of the Loom” does NOT appear under the “1. Shirt Style” menu. Either Strange Cargo decided to remove that option or it was a mistake to begin with.

That sounds great.

Mine would go great with BELIEVE directly under it.

Great job Al.

I will stop SC tonight and pick mine up.

I have to admit, I am a little disappointed that it will be so easy to get one this year. The endless posts back and forth last year was pretty entertaining. : )

I am trying not buy anything in Chicago

The 10.25 sales tax is a joke. New York has not tax on clothes or shoes. I used to shop
when I came back in town for games but no more. Good luck raising revenue for the Chicago’s crumbling infrastructure Ritchie.
Why would Strange Cargo charge tax on out of state orders ?

I had mine shipped to Omaha

and no sales tax – just the $5 to ship ( I bought 2 – so only $2.50 each)

Hmmmm....

10.25% vs. 8.5%? That extra $0.35 gonna break your bank?

On most things I would buy

Not just a BCB shirt is the entire 10.25 . A bit off topic but I would routinely go to
places like DSW, TJ MAXX etc and other stores along Clark or Broadway on my way to the game
or some downtown stores. There is simply no point when I can shop at the same stores here and
pay no tax on clothing. Also it is the principle as Chicago is just the most mismanaged city I know
of and I will try to avoid the insane tax when possible. New York is only about 2 less on non clothing
items an we have our share of bad spending etc but not compared to Chicago.

Stay out of Chicago then...

The arrogance of so many New Yorkers is amazing to me. Good grief, you think the world begins and ends with New York City. You couldn’t pay me enough money to live in that sewer hole. I’m sorry, but anytime someone puts down Chicago, (especially somone that doesn’t even live here) it pisses me off to no end.

Ryan Theriot Chicago Sucks.
LOL

Hey, you got the first part right anyway.

I LOVE CHICAGO

and I love New York except for everyone of the sports teams. Just pointing out it makes
no sense for me to shop when I am there and I happen to think it is a grossly mismanaged city.
Please don’t take that as any indication I don’t love the place. I grew up in the city of chicago
and I spend every vacation day I have to come back and watch the Cubs. I also NEVER eat pizza unless I am in Chicago ( and only at two or 3 place there) and dream of Wiener Circle
burgers.

You ought to know...

... that Jessica is a native Chicagoan, holds Cubs season tickets even though she lives in NYC, and spends virtually every vacation day she has back here to see the Cubs.

She happens to be right about the mismanagement.

I apologize..

Didn’t mean to attack anyone personally. It’s just that I have a lot of relatives that are, and have been city workers, cops, firemen, etc., so I’m rather thin skined when it comes to criticism of our fair city. As with any large city, (Chicago and NY both included) there will be some mismanagement issues. Having spent only one week of my life in NY it would be unfair of me to cast aspersions on that great city. However, in that one week I saw enough garbage on the streets, crappy $400 hotel rooms, rude people, etc, to last me an entire lifetime.

In for one...

may the BCB (version 1.2) shirt outsell the shirt just below it on the right.

Lack of baseball

I know it’s good for players to get a few days of rest, but let me just say it:

I HATE THE ALL-STAR BREAK!

And why is it that the Cubs always seem to be one of the teams that gets an extra day off after the break? It just prolongs the misery.

but on the flip side to that gives them an extra day of rest.

So as much as I miss baseball, in the long run the extra day might help someone like Soto.

The flip side to that

is that there is one left off-day spread throughout the season. (They have only 2 off-days in Aug.)

There are a LOT of teams getting an extra day off.

There are four games today. Eight teams playing, 22 have the day off.

rest

I agree it will be good for Soto, as well as for Dome. I think some other Cubs have been scrapping a bit lately, including DeRosa and Theriot.

I think

they’re all exhausted. I wonder how this bodes for the end of the season, tho…

If Sori can stay healthy in the second half,

Lou’s rotation system will give guys more days off.

What happened to those new designs?
People seemed to like this one...

... so I decided to go with it, plus that has the “BELIEVE PROJECT 3000” wording on the back.

just ordered mine!!

Thanks for making this happen Al….it’s greatly appreciated. Missed my chance on the 1st go round. Can’t wait to wear it out here in Denver with some Cubbie Pride!!

There will be at least two of us out here in Denver wearing them.

I just ordered mine and I’ll be wearing mine to the next Rockies game I attend.

Just ordered mine as well...

wish I’d have it for the series this weekend because i’m headed to Houston tomorrow!!!! Go Cubs!

Can we get a picture of the back?
go to the site and click on the shirt

it will show you both sides.

In case you can't find it..

... here it is:

Ack, Derrek is misspelled. My Cubs fan pet peeve.
I'll have them fix that.
Is that Michael Barrett?
Looks more like Michael Wuertz.
"Hi, I'm Michael Wuertz...

...and even though my slider isn’t working, this t-shirt is…on me. Form fitting. 100% cotton. And part of the proceeds go to charity. Now that’s what I call middle relief.”

Do you write marketing copy for a living?
Actually, I kinda do. (Daver blushes.)
Good, it seems like it's up your alley. (Where Wuertz is in that picture.)
I'd buy that for a dollar.

Well done, sir.

It's not showing me both sides.
Go to...

... the main Strange Cargo site and click on the bleedcubbieblue.com link on the left sidebar. That will take you here where you can see both sides.

The spelling of D-Lee’s name has been fixed:

They should just put that on the product page. Thanks for showing me the way.
Al, I can't believe you're aligning yourself with a company that sells

THIS abomination! AHHHH!!!!!!!! [click link at your own risk. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED]

Ack. I didn't know that.

But he’s right. Don’t click on that link!

I just threw up all over my work computer!

That warning needs to be MORE SERIOUS!

I warned you in all caps and bold, Al warned you, how many warnings do you need?!?
APPARENTLY MORE THAN THAT!

Oh great! I just threw up again!

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Okay, I've seen enough of these inside Ronnie jokes to ask...

Can someone please explain what the problem the people of this site have with Ronnie?

You'd have to experience him in real life to understand.
I have... he's annoying at worst.
You are a much better human being than I am.
Annoying is what I use to compliment him....
I've only heard him through crowd mics,

but that’s plenty bad enough.

Ask Al.
Don't even start with me on this issue.

OK, I’ll try to be as nice as possible. He makes these loud annoying sounds. If he did it for a minute or two and then stopped, maybe it’d be OK. But he continues to do it even if you ask him to stop. In fact, asking him to stop appears to be the signal to do it LONGER. He once stood next to me while I was sitting on the lawn at Mesa and did it for a solid hour before the Mesa cops finally came and threw him out.

He also spends a fair amount of his time in the bleachers groping college-age women.

Fortunately, he hasn’t been seen in the bleachers much this year. I suspect the price of the tickets is preventing people who used to give them to him from doing so. Good. I wish he’d just disappear forever.

Someone copy and paste that explanation in BCB Dictionary

I’d do it, but I’m….uh lazy, er busy at work…

Every cloud...

You raise ticket prices? Ugh.

It keeps certain people from getting tickets they normally would. Sweet!

Coolness...

Just ordered one.

ESPN Poll

ESPN has a poll on the front page – Whose luck would you like to see changed this season, the Cubs, the Rays, or Brewers.

Going to order one this afternoon. Cool shirt.

I'm gonna need to sleep on that one.
Just placed an order!

Thanks for doing this Al! I wish it had the AC 00 00 00 on it though…

I'll be in Chicago

in Sept. for my nephew’s wedding so when I check out the Ernie Banks statue, I’ll go and pick up the shirt then. I’m wearing a navy blue suit to the wedding so the shirt should look good with it. Can’t decide if I should wear a tie or not. ; )

Wahoo!

It's a message

It means Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes.

Holy mackerel?
It's a Wahoo boys and girls....

So there.

Ohhhhhhhhh

that’s…..interesting?

Oh, Wahoo...

like Cleveland’s racist mascot.

How do you know that Indian is a racist?
Typing "lol" rarely means a genuine audible laugh.

But it’s appropriate this time. That got me.

Wahoo McDaniels?
An error occurred

while trying to view your Wah…ehhh nevermind. Carry on.

Al, any thought of having these made in a tall size

in addition to the regular XL and XXL shirts? You saw me in mine this year, they shrink pretty good. Would love to get another one.

I don't know if Strange Cargo can do that.

Email or call them to ask.

Thanks!
I take it your handle is not a misnomer then?
Big John?

Can I call this a...

...crappy design?

No, but you can call it...

...a crapper design.

HIYOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
No, it's not LOL
WOOOOO HOOOOO

Gonna order 2 for me and dad today!!

Dan

thanks Al for making this happen.

8 bucks per shirt to Project 3000 is really awesome!!!!!! I just ordered one online…

I placed an order at 8:30AM my time...

and received an email at 12:30 that it had been shipped!

Needless to say, that’s quite a bit faster than the last batch shipped.

Let's hope

Strange Cargo doesn’t have a connection at the post office.

LOL

Incidentally, how are they shipping them? I never did ask, figured they knew what they were doing.

USPS w./ tracking number...

so presumably, by Priority Mail.

You know who works for USPS don't you??

Chad aka Les Lancaster!

Still?

;)

He's still waiting for confirmation of the shipped shirts!

:)

Is he related to Cliff Claven or Newman!
We're still not sure he even exists!
they give you all kinds of options

which is mighty customer friendly—from USPS to UPS

Excellent.

And the shipping cost is VERY reasonable, I think.

I'm tempted...

Darnit, I’m tempted now. A secure storefront was the only thing holding me back. However here in England I’m not sure. My Cubs hat is typically enough though most people don’t even know what that means… however, it’ll be worth it for the one or two people I might ever pass that are Brewer or Card fans!

They don't think

a red-white-blue C is for Chelsea, do they?

I don't know

And honestly, I’m not sure I want to find out! After watching Eurotrip I don’t want to be mistaken for a fan of the “wrong” crappy soccer team!

No kidding.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but cheering Chelsea over Man U is akin to, say, cheering for the Cardinals in Chicago, right?

HOLY COW!!!

Spelled backwards Deelb Eibuc Eulb. Which is latin for Cubs Win!!!

Or Paul is dead
I thought it was latin for

Cardinals – Forever the Suck.

No, that's Dribder.
A Question About Price

I think it’s great that $8 from each shirt is going to Project 3000.

Al, are you making any money from the shirts?

Do you know how much profit Strange Cargo is getting?

Thanks

I am making zero from this deal.

Strange Cargo may be making a small profit, but since $8 is going to Project 3000, and they’re doing all the work, I think we can cut them some slack.

Not relly anything wrong with them making money either Al

unlike the first time around, this is a business handling this process. I like them, they are a good place to work with.

Good to know

And I agree entirely

Baseball news for a slow day

and unworthy of a fanpost

Sexson completes deal with Yankees

D’Backs get Tony Clark for an A ball pitcher

Liriano asks Players Union to investigate why he is stuck in the minors
while kicking ass and Livan Hernandez who sucks is starting. Thinks it might have
something with them not wanting him to become arbitration eligible a year earlier than
they want. The Twins cheap ? I can’t imagine.

Red Sox think Manny dissed them or is it just Manny being Manny.

Lets go PADRES (vs Cardinals tonight).

Go Padres, indeed.
The Diamondbacks REALLY like Tony Clark.
I thought they had Tony Clark already...
Bruce Miles says no Greene

http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/263

Guess the San Diego paper pulled the rumor that the Cubs were interested in him from their site because it was false or maybe they just like messing with heads of Cub fans.

In any event just accept The Riot and move on.

I feel like I'm at a tent revival.

“Do you accept The Riot as your shortstop? Say it again! Say it louder! “

Our Savior?

:)

Based simply on rhythm and "tone"...

...the line read a lot better as “your lord and shortstop,” but I really wanted to avoid offending any more people than would be offended anyways simply by my saying something about Ryan Theriot.

Theriot and religion

in one fell swoop… like lighting a match at a gas station ;-D

Infidel!!! Seize him!!!
Cwyers

Just keep saying to yourself:

Riot is better than Neifi
Riot is better than Neifi
Riot is better than Neifi
Riot is better than Neifi

Feel better?

I'm not sure that's true.

Okay, in a “Who is your shortstop right this moment?” yeah, Theriot’s obviously, you know, not utterly run out of baseball. But compared to, say, 2005 Neifi Perez? I dunno.

OK, how about

Riot is better than Bynum
Riot is better than Bynum
Riot is better than Bynum
Riot is better than Bynum
Riot is better than Bynum

One of these days, I’ll get it right!

Atlantawear

Ordered my shirt. I’ll wear it in Atlanta—I’ll be there for a couple of games next month. Should be fun to see if it gets a reaction …

Thanks to ALL of you!

Just got an email. 40 shirts have been sold today! That means a donation of $320 to Project 3000, and thanks to everyone here who’s already bought one.

The rest of you: what are you waiting for? :)

Ok, the guilt worked

I just ordered my shirt instead of waiting until Sept.

So where is it already?

LOL

At least wait for tomorrow’s mail delivery.

Or, maybe a few days, given the state of the USPS.

an end

to my endless custody battle.

Less than 24 hours

until Cubs baseball!!!!!!!

Can't wait!

Padres beating the turd birds 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th. Peavy pitching for the Pads..

This is the only game they have a shot at winning....

so they had better win.

Hope so...

But now I see Glaus hits his second homer, and Ankiel then hits one. 3-2 Cards, top of the 5th.

Sorry, Al,

I despise the term “Cubbies” (explained in the fanpost on why we became Cub fans), but if you ever come up with a shirt that says, “Bleeding Cub Blue” then count me in.

+1

Hate the name Cubbies, but love the site.

I'm not crazy about the term "Cubbies" either...

...but I’m more than willing to let it go in certain situations and for a good cause.

Oh, and another thing,

love your site, even if you use the term “C_ies”

Al didnt pick the name

SBS

sbn***

pick it for him.

Ordered my shirt!

Thanks, for setting this up, Al!

OT: THE DARK KNIGHT

This movie was unreal. Just got back from the 12:01 showing; it was epic. Best movie of the year, bar none, and I’m gonna go to it again on Sunday. Heath owns this movie.

Dan

Looking forward to seeing this.

All the newspaper/website reviews are excellent, thanks for adding yours. Might wait a week or so till the uproar dies down a little, though.

HUGE Lines at the Theaters Last Night

in Westwood (UCLA college town). I had a class last night and they doubled the cost to park in the public lot I use!

Al, I emailed you

about a couple of other things I have been working on, let me know if you don’t get it.

Got mine...

very nice, quality shirt.
