No, don't be afraid -- this time it's going to be much easier, and you'll get your shirt in a timely fashion, or, if you are in Chicago, you can go and buy one in person.
How? Here's how. You've seen the ads for Strange Cargo pop up on this site from time to time over the last month or so (you may even be seeeing one right now, they've been around this morning). For those of you who aren't familiar with this store, it sells T-shirts and other miscellany and is located a couple of blocks south of Wrigley Field at 3448 N. Clark St.
Jay Schwartz of Strange Cargo and I have organized this deal to be as simple as possible. The shirt, as pictured above, is identical to last year's shirt, which a lot of people who didn't get one said they wanted. It also has the "BELIEVE PROJECT 3000" logo on the back. The shade of blue is slightly different, but it will still go well with all your other Cubs gear.
You can go to the store and buy one for $20 plus tax -- that's $22.50 total, and take it home right away. Or, if you are not in the Chicago area and can't get to Strange Cargo's store, you can order it online. The online price is the same -- $20, plus tax, and $5 for shipping, $27.50 total.
You can order your shirt by clicking on this link. Best of all, as you can see on that page, $8 from every shirt purchase will be donated to Derrek Lee's Project 3000, which has already seen $1450 donated from generous BCB readers from last year's shirt sale and pledges made about player performances in 2007. I'll also update the BCB Project 3000 Fundraiser link that's permanently on the right sidebar so the shirt-ordering link will always be handy after this post passes off the front page.
I'll keep everyone updated on how many shirts get sold and how much we contribute to this worthy cause.
You asked, so here it is. Go get yours today!

Sweet!
Will be back in the neighborhood in a couple weeks and will definitely swing by and get one.

Good work
Thanks, Al, for making this happen. I imagine there are a lot of people who missed them the first time through, and it’s great that the ordering (and delivery) process will be so easy. Thanks again.

International Shipping!
Hey, they even ship internationally. Sure, you’ll pay a bit more for shipping and customs, but… you still get the shirt (and more money goes to Project 3000).
daubs - July 17, 2008
you know what would be pretty cool....
and I’m pretty sure it would cost too much or involve too much, but it would be really cool to put our BCB names on the back like a Jersey… When I get this shirt, I might just bring it to a place to sew on “SouthsideCUBSfan” on the back… therefore we would be recognized at the games or what not..
SouthsideCUBSfan - July 17, 2008
and it would leave people with the chance to continue their arguments in person
For Example: If sackings saw me at wrigley and noticed my “SouthsideCUBSfan” name on the back, I would guarentee he comes to me to argue about Theriot… I like this idea. THANKS AL for putting this up, Im looking forward to represent our hood
SouthsideCUBSfan - July 17, 2008
Not sewn,
but I am sure at Strange Cargo they can put your name on the back of the shirt. We get our softball t-shirts from there every year for work. They do great work.
Tangled Up In Blue - July 17, 2008
YUP
You can also buy iron on letters from ebay pretty cheap. Maybe it’s time to take on a new and improved screen name. Maybe: Sangre Azul
tony412 - July 17, 2008
Actually
I am almost sure Strange Cargo could do this for you at a n extra charge. I ahve had shirts made there they are great.
Kinky Reggae - July 17, 2008
Looking at Strange Cargo's Web site...
...they have a special screen for custom lettering. And if you look under the pull down menu for “1. Shirt Style”, there is an option for “Bleed Cubbie Blue Fruit of the Loom.”
Now I’m assuming if you choose that option you’ll get the full BCB shirt with whatever “On the Back” lettering you choose. Al, does this sound right to you? Or maybe I should e-mail the store to confirm?
daver - July 17, 2008
I'd confirm
but that’s probably it. How much does it cost?
drewishdrewid - July 17, 2008
The site says...
...50 cents a letter. That particular custom lettering page says they charge $15 per shirt, but I would assume the $20 price for the BCB shirt applies.
daver - July 17, 2008
I dunno, actually.
Call or email the store to ask.
Al Yellon - July 17, 2008
NEVERMIND, I guess.
I just checked the custom lettering page again, and now the “Bleed Cubbie Blue Fruit of the Loom” does NOT appear under the “1. Shirt Style” menu. Either Strange Cargo decided to remove that option or it was a mistake to begin with.
daver - July 17, 2008
That sounds great.
Mine would go great with BELIEVE directly under it.
neverAcquiesce - July 17, 2008
Great job Al.
I will stop SC tonight and pick mine up.
I have to admit, I am a little disappointed that it will be so easy to get one this year. The endless posts back and forth last year was pretty entertaining. : )
Tangled Up In Blue - July 17, 2008
I am trying not buy anything in Chicago
The 10.25 sales tax is a joke. New York has not tax on clothes or shoes. I used to shop
when I came back in town for games but no more. Good luck raising revenue for the Chicago’s crumbling infrastructure Ritchie.
Why would Strange Cargo charge tax on out of state orders ?
Doggie Stalker - July 17, 2008
I had mine shipped to Omaha
and no sales tax – just the $5 to ship ( I bought 2 – so only $2.50 each)
Ihatethecards - July 17, 2008
Hmmmm....
10.25% vs. 8.5%? That extra $0.35 gonna break your bank?
Fukudometer - July 17, 2008
On most things I would buy
Not just a BCB shirt is the entire 10.25 . A bit off topic but I would routinely go to
places like DSW, TJ MAXX etc and other stores along Clark or Broadway on my way to the game
or some downtown stores. There is simply no point when I can shop at the same stores here and
pay no tax on clothing. Also it is the principle as Chicago is just the most mismanaged city I know
of and I will try to avoid the insane tax when possible. New York is only about 2 less on non clothing
items an we have our share of bad spending etc but not compared to Chicago.
Doggie Stalker - July 17, 2008
Stay out of Chicago then...
The arrogance of so many New Yorkers is amazing to me. Good grief, you think the world begins and ends with New York City. You couldn’t pay me enough money to live in that sewer hole. I’m sorry, but anytime someone puts down Chicago, (especially somone that doesn’t even live here) it pisses me off to no end.

Ryan TheriotChicago Sucks.santoswoodenlegs - July 17, 2008
LOL
Hey, you got the first part right anyway.
Bump Bailey - July 17, 2008
I LOVE CHICAGO
and I love New York except for everyone of the sports teams. Just pointing out it makes
no sense for me to shop when I am there and I happen to think it is a grossly mismanaged city.
Please don’t take that as any indication I don’t love the place. I grew up in the city of chicago
and I spend every vacation day I have to come back and watch the Cubs. I also NEVER eat pizza unless I am in Chicago ( and only at two or 3 place there) and dream of Wiener Circle
burgers.
Doggie Stalker - July 17, 2008
You ought to know...
... that Jessica is a native Chicagoan, holds Cubs season tickets even though she lives in NYC, and spends virtually every vacation day she has back here to see the Cubs.
She happens to be right about the mismanagement.
Al Yellon - July 17, 2008
I apologize..
Didn’t mean to attack anyone personally. It’s just that I have a lot of relatives that are, and have been city workers, cops, firemen, etc., so I’m rather thin skined when it comes to criticism of our fair city. As with any large city, (Chicago and NY both included) there will be some mismanagement issues. Having spent only one week of my life in NY it would be unfair of me to cast aspersions on that great city. However, in that one week I saw enough garbage on the streets, crappy $400 hotel rooms, rude people, etc, to last me an entire lifetime.
Bump Bailey - July 17, 2008
In for one...
may the BCB (version 1.2) shirt outsell the shirt just below it on the right.
bison - July 17, 2008
Lack of baseball
I know it’s good for players to get a few days of rest, but let me just say it:
I HATE THE ALL-STAR BREAK!
And why is it that the Cubs always seem to be one of the teams that gets an extra day off after the break? It just prolongs the misery.
danimal15 - July 17, 2008
but on the flip side to that gives them an extra day of rest.
So as much as I miss baseball, in the long run the extra day might help someone like Soto.
Madison Cub Fan - July 17, 2008
The flip side to that
is that there is one left off-day spread throughout the season. (They have only 2 off-days in Aug.)
DeRoMyHero - July 17, 2008
There are a LOT of teams getting an extra day off.
There are four games today. Eight teams playing, 22 have the day off.
Al Yellon - July 17, 2008
rest
I agree it will be good for Soto, as well as for Dome. I think some other Cubs have been scrapping a bit lately, including DeRosa and Theriot.
danimal15 - July 17, 2008
I think
they’re all exhausted. I wonder how this bodes for the end of the season, tho…
drewishdrewid - July 17, 2008

DeRoMyHero - July 17, 2008
Ask Al.
northsider - July 17, 2008
Don't even start with me on this issue.
OK, I’ll try to be as nice as possible. He makes these loud annoying sounds. If he did it for a minute or two and then stopped, maybe it’d be OK. But he continues to do it even if you ask him to stop. In fact, asking him to stop appears to be the signal to do it LONGER. He once stood next to me while I was sitting on the lawn at Mesa and did it for a solid hour before the Mesa cops finally came and threw him out.
He also spends a fair amount of his time in the bleachers groping college-age women.
Fortunately, he hasn’t been seen in the bleachers much this year. I suspect the price of the tickets is preventing people who used to give them to him from doing so. Good. I wish he’d just disappear forever.
Al Yellon - July 17, 2008

I think it’s great that $8 from each shirt is going to Project 3000.
Al, are you making any money from the shirts?
Do you know how much profit Strange Cargo is getting?
Thanks
Leon Durham - July 17, 2008
I am making zero from this deal.
Strange Cargo may be making a small profit, but since $8 is going to Project 3000, and they’re doing all the work, I think we can cut them some slack.

cwyers - July 17, 2008
Our Savior?
:)
Bump Bailey - July 17, 2008
Based simply on rhythm and "tone"...
...the line read a lot better as “your lord and shortstop,” but I really wanted to avoid offending any more people than would be offended anyways simply by my saying something about Ryan Theriot.
cwyers - July 17, 2008
Theriot and religion
in one fell swoop… like lighting a match at a gas station ;-D
Emelie - July 17, 2008
Infidel!!! Seize him!!!
daver - July 18, 2008
Cwyers
Just keep saying to yourself:
Riot is better than Neifi
Riot is better than Neifi
Riot is better than Neifi
Riot is better than Neifi
Feel better?
DeRoMyHero - July 17, 2008
I'm not sure that's true.
Okay, in a “Who is your shortstop right this moment?” yeah, Theriot’s obviously, you know, not utterly run out of baseball. But compared to, say, 2005 Neifi Perez? I dunno.
cwyers - July 17, 2008
OK, how about
Riot is better than Bynum
Riot is better than Bynum
Riot is better than Bynum
Riot is better than Bynum
Riot is better than Bynum
One of these days, I’ll get it right!
DeRoMyHero - July 17, 2008
Atlantawear
Ordered my shirt. I’ll wear it in Atlanta—I’ll be there for a couple of games next month. Should be fun to see if it gets a reaction …
StampMe - July 17, 2008
Thanks to ALL of you!
Just got an email. 40 shirts have been sold today! That means a donation of $320 to Project 3000, and thanks to everyone here who’s already bought one.
The rest of you: what are you waiting for? :)
Al Yellon - July 17, 2008
payday?
santoswoodenlegs - July 17, 2008
Fair enough.
Al Yellon - July 17, 2008
Ok, the guilt worked
I just ordered my shirt instead of waiting until Sept.
So where is it already?
tucsoncubsfan - July 17, 2008
LOL
At least wait for tomorrow’s mail delivery.
Or, maybe a few days, given the state of the USPS.
Al Yellon - July 17, 2008
an end
to my endless custody battle.
drewishdrewid - July 18, 2008
Cheer up!
KFed just won his!
daver - July 18, 2008
Less than 24 hours
until Cubs baseball!!!!!!!
sue369 - July 17, 2008
Can't wait!
Padres beating the turd birds 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th. Peavy pitching for the Pads..
Bump Bailey - July 17, 2008
This is the only game they have a shot at winning....
so they had better win.
santoswoodenlegs - July 17, 2008
Hope so...
But now I see Glaus hits his second homer, and Ankiel then hits one. 3-2 Cards, top of the 5th.
Bump Bailey - July 17, 2008
Sorry, Al,
I despise the term “Cubbies” (explained in the fanpost on why we became Cub fans), but if you ever come up with a shirt that says, “Bleeding Cub Blue” then count me in.
Mr W - July 17, 2008
+1
Hate the name Cubbies, but love the site.
digitalbenjamin - July 18, 2008
I'm not crazy about the term "Cubbies" either...
...but I’m more than willing to let it go in certain situations and for a good cause.
daver - July 18, 2008
Oh, and another thing,
love your site, even if you use the term “C_ies”
Mr W - July 17, 2008

OT: THE DARK KNIGHT
This movie was unreal. Just got back from the 12:01 showing; it was epic. Best movie of the year, bar none, and I’m gonna go to it again on Sunday. Heath owns this movie.

Looking forward to seeing this.
All the newspaper/website reviews are excellent, thanks for adding yours. Might wait a week or so till the uproar dies down a little, though.

CaliCub - July 18, 2008
