looks like another loss to the powerfull astros. watch the 1st place lead go poof.players struggling and injuries all add up to the same thing.cubs never make it easy
The offense has gone back to its old ways. No walks tonight, one walk last night, two walks the game before that. 9 hits tonight is very deceiving because that’s been it. 9 baserunners. Not rocket science with this offense – either they get back to what they were doing so well or they can watch not one but two teams pass them in the standings. The Brewers are obliterating everyone and the Cardinals seem to scratch out close wins regularly.
This team better get it straight in their heads that unless they start playing good baseball on the road as well as home, they’re not going anywhere. This listless brand of baseball they play away from Wrigley is getting under my skin.
But he still brings his A game on defense! Can’t you say anything positive? Don’t worry, we will get them tomorrow! Every team has a bad stretch now and then. Think Positive and quit worrying!
ARam, Alou, Sammy, Kerry, Prior, Zambrano, Clement and others playing amazingly and they won a postseason series doesn’t make him a good manager.
“On-base percentage is great if you can score runs and do something with that on-base percentage,” Baker said. “Clogging up the bases isn’t that great to me.”
Hopefully it’s just a slump and not indicitive of anything major.
Right now, I’m going to chalk up the lack of any sembalance of plate discipline to an overeagerness to play baseball again after a pretty long layoff, and not something more serious.
It seems that tis team can handle pretty good pitching (not named Tim Lincecum) but gets killed against pitchers with no stuff. Shawn Estes, Brian Moehler, etc. I don’t know what to make of it, other than that old saw: “It’s baseball.”
In a perfect world they’d rattle off a Met-like 10 game streak, but even an extended run of good baseball (something along the lines of 9 wins in 12 games) would be welcome.
Albert Pujols might be the best hitter of my lifetime (I’m 24). Derrek Lee? Not so much?
I agree that this team is major trouble. I’m curious as to whether this is the “real” Cubs team, as opposed to the one who beat the world in late April and May. The truth is probably in the middle, which means another 85 win season and a qucik playoff bounce.
(Until The Great American Bash starts at 7). I’m going to take a long look at the monthly splits of this team, both pitching and hitting, and see if the numbers tell me anything. I’ll probably wait until after tomorrow’s game.
Hopefully I’ll figure out which version of the Cubs is closer to reality. I doubt they are as good as they looked during the Colorado and LA series at Wrigley, and I doubt they are as bad as they look this weekend or the weekend at the Cell.
The truth is most likely in between, but where in between is the real question.
The Rays, Marlins and A’s are all in contention, with low payrolls. The Tigers and Mets have top-5 payrolls, yet are either on the fringe of the playoff picture (Detriot) or needed a semi-miracle run in order to get to the top of their division (New York).
Milwaukee has a payroll in the neighborhood of 80 million, so they’re aren’t exactly on the street asking for change…
This sucks
