Jeff Samardzija continues to be the weirdest prospect in minor league history. He pitched 6 innings today, only walked one and struck out nine. He’s pitching like he wants to be called up before September.
then Thompson (the pitcher) was going to bunt Pujols to second. The bunt failed and Pujols was off of 1st so the catcher tried to throw Pujols out, and instead—the ball was thrown away from the first baseman and all the way to right field. Pujols advanced to third.
The Cardinals are not lucky—they are playing good baseball. Good things happen when you do that. Enough of the HGH talk and all of that .. it makes it look like you are intimated by them.
Ankiel was a juicer. McGwire was a juicer. Tons of other Oakland players for LaRussa were juicers. Don’t tell bald 20-something Pujols isn’t on something and that LaRussa and his staff didn’t/don’t know what’s going on with him, Ankiel and anyone else.
Julian Tavarez couldn’t have been the only person scuffing up balls or greasing them up in that bullpen, either. It’s kind of funny how players who suck ass for years come to St. Lou and suddenly find their mojo, ain’t it?
Even the Cubs don’t look this bad when we look “bad” on the road. They really give a team 4-5 outs an inning all the time and run the bases like a bunch of guys with ankle weights on.
To be honest I'd rather have the cardinals make the playoffs than the Brewers
We are head over heels better than the cardinals in terms of talent and would easily beat that team head to head. The Brewers are a team we always struggle with
We get very lucky. We dont face Webb or Haren this week. The D-Backs series, in my opinion, is huge. We have our golden boy pitching for only the 2nd time, we get R. Johnson who has been horrible lately. We face Owings, a cub killer in the past, but struggling this year, and we face Doug Davis, another cub killer in the past, but very hittable.
The Cards and Brew will be beating up on one another, we need to get some distance from one or both of them. Harden, Marquis, and Lilly. They need to be big for us.
Memo to Lilly: First pitch fastball, up and in to Chris Young. NOT A GOOD IDEA.
See, that’s the confusing part. Chicago’s not a small market. The Cubs are team that a lot of people who DON’T live in Chicago like—it makes no sense to bury them behind Marlins highlights [in front of their customary 10K fans]. Even when the stupid Tampa Rays were winning a lot they were high up in the show’s set list. I was sick of hearing about what a great story it was. Gee, fellas, has it been a HUNDRED FCKING YEARS SINCE THE D-BAG, ER, D-RAYS WON A TITLE?
I’d also rather not sit through a story on the fcking Mets latest soap opera or Giambi’s mustache before I find out if the best damn team in the league won their game that was over 2 hours ago, you know?
I’m way out west and all we have is Fox Sports Mariners or ESPN. When I’m feeding my 2 year-old, there isn’t much on besides a shitty Mariners game or maybe, maybe SportsCenter, if you’re lucky.
Since you brought it up, I don’t mind Fox News. CNN, pMSNBC, PBS, BBC, etc. are all pansy-assed left-wing surrender shills and they can fuck off.
I filled my quota of obvious liberal propaganda when I was forced to sit through “Bowling for Columbine” a few years back.
All I know is that Fox News didn’t try to push some phoney TANG memos as realistic 1973 documents-when they were obviously whipped up in Microsoft Word-in a blatant attempt to impact a Presidential election…or suck up to Saddam Hussein in a pre-war Interview…or blatantly try to declare the Vietnam War “lost” [CBS].
Nor did they cozy up to Saddam Hussein after the Gulf War simply to be the only open bureau in town [CNN].
Nor do they employ disgusting hacks like Keith Olbermann or Chris Matthews, who are either busy getting thrills up their legs for Obama or comparing everything and everyone to Hitler [MSNBC].

there’s a catcher called Hundley playing for the Padres. Randy’s grandson? Todd’s much younger brother?
JohnM - July 20, 2008
Not Toddy's relation
Like many coaches’ kids, Portland Beavers catcher Nick Hundley was a precocious student of the game as a child. He and his brother, Jake, waited at the door for their father, Tim, then an assistant football coach at Oregon State, to return home after practice.

gocubs40 - July 20, 2008
You don't have to be lucky
When everyone on the team is on HGH and/or throwing scuffed/greased balls.
You do have to be lucky when you’re drunk driving.
jmomls - July 20, 2008
Oh lord.
The Cardinals are not lucky—they are playing good baseball. Good things happen when you do that. Enough of the HGH talk and all of that .. it makes it look like you are intimated by them.
Unique - July 20, 2008
You must wear blinders
Ankiel was a juicer. McGwire was a juicer. Tons of other Oakland players for LaRussa were juicers. Don’t tell bald 20-something Pujols isn’t on something and that LaRussa and his staff didn’t/don’t know what’s going on with him, Ankiel and anyone else.

Aaron Miles fits that last description
CubsBall2202 - July 20, 2008
geez, I hope people don't think Soto is on HGH
because he was mediocre in the minors from 2001-2006.
I like to think he found his groove at 24.
flachimesa - July 20, 2008
un-freakin-real
That team is so bad, I feel for Adrian Gonzalez and Brian Giles. That is a pitiful team.
louslovechild - July 20, 2008
I Drather
root for a clean team like the Cubs than a bunch of juicers like a certain team that wears red and plays in a city on the banks of Old Man River.
CaliCub - July 20, 2008
there must be guys on SD begging to get out of there by 7/31
they really are b-a-d, bad.
LAcarl519 - July 20, 2008
Especially Maddux.
Unique - July 20, 2008
the SD announcer just called the Padres "the AAA Portland Beavers."
ouch.
LAcarl519 - July 20, 2008
Thats an insult to the Beavers
CubsBall2202 - July 20, 2008
I was thinking the same thing
Even the Cubs don’t look this bad when we look “bad” on the road. They really give a team 4-5 outs an inning all the time and run the bases like a bunch of guys with ankle weights on.
LAcarl519 - July 20, 2008
They are playing like an AAA team.
I bet the Iowa Cubs would take 2 of 3 from them.
Unique - July 20, 2008
Since Iowa is in first, I assume they do (aren't they both in the PCL?)
LAcarl519 - July 20, 2008
Good.
They have at least 4 automatic outs on that team.
louslovechild - July 20, 2008
To be honest I'd rather have the cardinals make the playoffs than the Brewers
We are head over heels better than the cardinals in terms of talent and would easily beat that team head to head. The Brewers are a team we always struggle with
CubsBall2202 - July 20, 2008
was just thinking along those lines
philadelphiacub - July 20, 2008
OK something more important.

Unless it’s a lot more up and a lot more in…and results in a trip to the oromaxiofacial surgeon.

Wow...just wow.

Y’all ever watch Baseball Tonight and wonder why they always lead off with the Mets and/or Yankees, even if the game is only in the first inning?
Than about 20-40 minutes later they “catch up with the Major League’s best team, the Chicago Cubs”.
What the f*ck? I don’t care how East Coast biased you are, shouldn’t you lead with the best team in the whole damn league?
jmomls - July 20, 2008
E$PN
For fair coverage on the Cubs, stick with Bruce Miles and BCB.
CaliCub - July 20, 2008
$?
See, that’s the confusing part. Chicago’s not a small market. The Cubs are team that a lot of people who DON’T live in Chicago like—it makes no sense to bury them behind Marlins highlights [in front of their customary 10K fans]. Even when the stupid Tampa Rays were winning a lot they were high up in the show’s set list. I was sick of hearing about what a great story it was. Gee, fellas, has it been a HUNDRED FCKING YEARS SINCE THE D-BAG, ER, D-RAYS WON A TITLE?
I’d also rather not sit through a story on the fcking Mets latest soap opera or Giambi’s mustache before I find out if the best damn team in the league won their game that was over 2 hours ago, you know?
jmomls - July 20, 2008
why do you watch them?
I dont like the way Fox news covers things. So it’s a channel I never watch, b/c I expect that they will say things that will annoy me.
ESPN is the same way…. when they do actually cover the Cubs it annoys me.
Madison Cub Fan - July 20, 2008
I watch because
I’m way out west and all we have is Fox Sports Mariners or ESPN. When I’m feeding my 2 year-old, there isn’t much on besides a shitty Mariners game or maybe, maybe SportsCenter, if you’re lucky.
Since you brought it up, I don’t mind Fox News. CNN, pMSNBC, PBS, BBC, etc. are all pansy-assed left-wing surrender shills and they can fuck off.
jmomls - July 20, 2008
I was just using it as an example
cubs did win today….
smile be happy

+1
On Fox News….you should rent the dvd called “Outfoxed” sometime. Really spills the beans on what a sleazy outfit Fox is.
Bump Bailey - July 20, 2008
No, thanks.
