that bothers me about those giveaways is there’s always some corporate logo on it messing the whole thing up. Couple weeks ago I got a Cubs visor and right on the side is a lousy McDonald’s logo. Ugh. Makes it look like I work there…
We don’t need to score A run. We’ve been doing that too much lately. We need to score many runs. And giving away outs with your 3-4-5 coming up doesn’t seem the most prudent way to go about doing that.
A strategy is sound based on the probabilities of what might happen next, not determined by what happens in retrospect. Sac-bunting a runner to second with nobody out increases the odds that you’ll score at least one run and decreases the odds you’ll score at least two. It’s thus an example of a “one-run strategy”.
It turns out that a sacrifice bunt, on average, decreases the average number of runs a team scores in an inning (despite increasing the odds that they’ll score one). So in certain late-game situations where one run is sorely needed a sac-bunt is a smart move. In most situations it’s not.
not pitching to contact, trying to be so fine with his pitches. He has good dtuff, but if you can’t take coahing, and adjust your game plan, well it’s time to go!
But right now, these last 10 or so games, these guys don’t look like they’re trying, hence the term BUMS. If that’s too much for your feeble midwestern heart then you can leave it.
Because the offer applies with a 14 day in advance purchase, so you can’t total someone’s car at a car wash and then run to Midway and buy a ticket, like the commerical implies.
At what point in time, if the way you've been doing it doesn't work.....
do you change your approach?!? I’m beginning to wonder if this guy wants to get better. Throw strikes. Get ahead in the count. Pound the bottom of the zone.
How in the world is this guy constantly referred to as a “sinkerballer?” He rarely keeps the ball down, he has no idea where the corners are, and I’m tired of predictably watching his movement take the ball right into the heart of the strike zone in hitter’s counts.
It is too early to take him out I know… but, he has no control today. This game is a need to win game. Now he’s gonna strike out, instead of just taking a walk.
But I blame him more, well, b/c he’s Jason Marquis. He hasn’t been the same since LaRussa screwed him up in ‘06. He doesn’t trust his coaches, doesn’t trust himself.
Marquis gave up a 3 run HR..OK...Would it have mattered if he pitched 6 shut out innings
and gave up a 3 run HR in the 7th and our offense does nothing? It doesn’t matter..We have to score more runs to win this period. Our pitching has been very good so far, just ask Harden.
If you’re foreshadowing a sweep, why bother watching? Take a walk or play Scrabble or something.
This isn’t a “everything’s ducky” post, but the truth is, you don’t know what’s going to happen next week, or for that matter what’s going to happen the rest of the day.
I’m going to do right now. I’m really just not enjoying watching this team as of late. I’m getting ready to load up my canoe, go out to a local lake and do some fishing. The season is far from over and I’m sure they will break out of this slump at some point, but I don’t think it’s going to be today. I’d rather go fishing.
Early in the season, he was getting pounded inside. He made the adjustment, and had a great May. Teams are now going outer half on him, and he is pulling a lot of those pitches. As soon as he finds the RCF gap, he’ll get scorching hot. Hopefully, today…
even if you DFA a player, he has to clear waivers after Jul. 31, and and ML players you get in return have to clear waivers. Marquis probably would clear waivers, but Howry wouldn’t. And the Cubs would get either minor leaguers or another team’s garbage in return.
My guess is that they’re pitching Fukudome low and away, Lee down and in, Soto high and away. They also know we don’t steal that well, and in the case of some of our pitchers they tend to nibble (so don’t swing at a pitch if you’re behind in the count unless it’s a “get me over” pitch).
just watching this team right now hurts my feelings…...guy gets a hit and then we have the lineup set up to make sure the guy has no chance of scoring…...we make mediocre pitchers look good…..and I forgot how frustrating watching Marquis pitch can be…..at least it is early (that’s reason for optimism or not???)
I don’t think anybody’s going to “run away” with anything, unless you count on them winning 90 percent of their games from this point forward. And if they do, God bless ‘em.
You and I have had a few baseball conversations. When others get upset they whine and get pissy, but when you get disappointed, you become authoritative and mean. Everyone vents in their own way I guess. But come on, you are better than that.
It’s going to get worse before it gets better. Big, big, big trouble over the course of the next few games. If this keeps up, they’ll be out of the division race by next weekend. Absolutely atrocious plate appearances continue and bad starting pitching is now continuing this extended malaise of no offense. Trouble ahead just as was said a week ago.
You’re not paying attention. Keep drinking the kool-aid. This has been bad for far longer than you’d like to believe. Wake up. Next thing you’ll know, the season will be over and you’ll wonder what positive comment you can make. Face reality, this team is horrible right now and the longer it goes, the thinner the “over the long haul” arguments become.
is a “more of the same” guy. By that I mean a guy with numbers not significantly better than a Lee or ARam or DeRo, but someone you’d still get in the hope that you can get lightning in a bottle for the next two months. Plus they’d have to come from a team willing to accept the middling prospects the Cubs could offer.
You’d work the new player into the mix, spelling Lee/Dome/whoever once or twice a day. Not someone who would REPLACE our guys right now…someone who you would hope would be be hot while the current lineup thaws out.
Guys I have in mind would be Ibanez or Catalanotto or Kearns. Bargain dudes that you could only hope that a change of scenery would spark them.
maybe it takes a bad start by a pitcher to make these hitters
dig deep and wake up. Let’s just see how they respond. Stranger things have happened.
The 8 guys in the line up have not been getting timely hits when we have had great starting pitching, so maybe this is what it takes to wake the bats up.
MLB.com has “After reaching the top, Brewers aim to stay there” as a headline. I don’t think I’ll be able to turn on SportsCenter tonight even if we win… the Brewers fawning will just make me gag.
I really hope Canning is out of this. He is a Bud shrill. Micheal Sneed said Canning was trying to push the sale of Wrigley to the state. Sounds like Reinsdorf, he stole 200 million to build the Cell.

Well
To be fair… Riot’s sac was only 1 out… If Lee hadn’t flied out it might have been a sound strategy…
Hilary Lee - July 27, 2008
Sound strategy
A strategy is sound based on the probabilities of what might happen next, not determined by what happens in retrospect. Sac-bunting a runner to second with nobody out increases the odds that you’ll score at least one run and decreases the odds you’ll score at least two. It’s thus an example of a “one-run strategy”.

sue369 - July 27, 2008
if this keeps up hope lou gets the hook early
Emelie - July 27, 2008
With the MIL series coming up ..I don't think so..Marquis may very well take one for the team
With our offense it doesn’t really matter if we are down by 5 or down by 2
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
yeah that makes sense... but damn and... sigh
oh well… we’ve come back from much worse. I remain half full at this stage of the game
Emelie - July 27, 2008
I mean the hook for marquis
Emelie - July 27, 2008
Let's not blow out the bullpen today.
We play the Brewers 4 games, starting tomorrow.
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
HE IS NOT FOOLING ANYONE
Is anyone up?
louslovechild - July 27, 2008
I am so tired of Marquis...
not pitching to contact, trying to be so fine with his pitches. He has good dtuff, but if you can’t take coahing, and adjust your game plan, well it’s time to go!

BigDcubbie - July 27, 2008
I can't take "coahing" either :-)
Welcome Jimmy!
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
Yo. Cat.
You can take it bro… Marquis is such a well… I can’t say it… Don’t be surprised to see him out of the game soon. Lou isn’t going to take it today.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
Who won the fight last night?
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
Margarito!!!
TKO in the 12th. Ya missed a good one. Hopefully the Cubs can get a TKO or a KO today.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
See ya' Jason
Somebody start a shower for Marquis.
NOW!!!!
FXDregs - July 27, 2008

But the Blues Clues are winning
Mapmaker - July 27, 2008
Is Hermida gonna get beaned now?
Or will it take another Homer from him?
CubFaninNY - July 27, 2008
Hermida up, nice
When is the last time this guy has done anything.
louslovechild - July 27, 2008
Who do we get up in the pen?
They are exhausted. Rest the pen unless the bats start going. Try to win in Milwaukee.

The Shark is up in the pen
SouthsideCUBSfan - July 27, 2008
That is a mistake.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
why? why do you want to burn the pen?
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
No, but you should try to win the game today
not play to win the game tomorrow.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Does everyon on this team
have 15 or more homers?
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
alright...inning over
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
The game's still on the offense
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
Now they're gonna start hacking away
since they’re 3 runs down. I don’t expect much from these bums today.
CubFaninNY - July 27, 2008
which bums are you speaking of?
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
Cubs Bums
DLee
Kosuke
ARam
Soriano
you know.
CubFaninNY - July 27, 2008
Well, since these are the "bums" that got us to 1st place,
I think they can get out of the funk and be in 1st place at game 162!

them so pathetic.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
I think it's going to take 10+ runs to win this game
and I just don’t think they have the heart right now to score that many runs.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
It's got nothing to do with "heart"
It’s got everything to do with ability.
Not Bruce Froemming - July 27, 2008
we must remember thisis baseball, not football
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
That's One Nice Thing About the NFL
In football you can translate heart and emotion into running a guy over or tackling him into next week.
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
I'm not sure who "THEY" is...
But right now, these last 10 or so games, these guys don’t look like they’re trying, hence the term BUMS. If that’s too much for your feeble midwestern heart then you can leave it.
CubFaninNY - July 27, 2008
I do think they're trying
perhaps a little too hard.

as opposed to late, like the last few days.
cubnlinux is right, game is still on the offense.
Not Bruce Froemming - July 27, 2008
agreed, pitching has been great since AS break minus Marquis today
maddux1-27-07 - July 27, 2008
I hate these "Want to get away" Commercials
Because the offer applies with a 14 day in advance purchase, so you can’t total someone’s car at a car wash and then run to Midway and buy a ticket, like the commerical implies.

cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
At what point in time, if the way you've been doing it doesn't work.....
do you change your approach?!? I’m beginning to wonder if this guy wants to get better. Throw strikes. Get ahead in the count. Pound the bottom of the zone.
How in the world is this guy constantly referred to as a “sinkerballer?” He rarely keeps the ball down, he has no idea where the corners are, and I’m tired of predictably watching his movement take the ball right into the heart of the strike zone in hitter’s counts.
Uggh, is he frustrating to watch pitch!

It is too early to take him out I know… but, he has no control today. This game is a need to win game. Now he’s gonna strike out, instead of just taking a walk.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
I blame his uniform number.
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
I do too.
But I blame him more, well, b/c he’s Jason Marquis. He hasn’t been the same since LaRussa screwed him up in ‘06. He doesn’t trust his coaches, doesn’t trust himself.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
I keed, I keed
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
Marquis gave up a 3 run HR..OK...Would it have mattered if he pitched 6 shut out innings
and gave up a 3 run HR in the 7th and our offense does nothing? It doesn’t matter..We have to score more runs to win this period. Our pitching has been very good so far, just ask Harden.
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008

Bump Bailey - July 27, 2008
Yeah, that's obvious with the offense.
Marquis is good pitcher. He looks good one start, then stinks the next… A game like today, he needs to pitch smart.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
How about scoring some damn runs?
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
We can't go
to our pen this early. Maybe Marquis settle in for a few more innings.

Emelie - July 27, 2008
Not looking good
so far. The Cubs are going to be walking into a buzzsaw the next 4 days.
PhillyCub - July 27, 2008
Well, pack it in
If you’re foreshadowing a sweep, why bother watching? Take a walk or play Scrabble or something.
This isn’t a “everything’s ducky” post, but the truth is, you don’t know what’s going to happen next week, or for that matter what’s going to happen the rest of the day.
Not Bruce Froemming - July 27, 2008
That's what
I’m going to do right now. I’m really just not enjoying watching this team as of late. I’m getting ready to load up my canoe, go out to a local lake and do some fishing. The season is far from over and I’m sure they will break out of this slump at some point, but I don’t think it’s going to be today. I’d rather go fishing.
qccub - July 27, 2008
sounds like a lovely afternoon -- hope they're biting!
Emelie - July 27, 2008
I'm going this evening...never have any luck this time of the day.
Caught four 1-2 lb catfish last night. Fried em up and had some hush puppies and cole slaw with them. Excellent dinner I must say.
Bump Bailey - July 27, 2008
This team has major issues with the o!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
DeRo's really inside conscious right now.
Early in the season, he was getting pounded inside. He made the adjustment, and had a great May. Teams are now going outer half on him, and he is pulling a lot of those pitches. As soon as he finds the RCF gap, he’ll get scorching hot. Hopefully, today…
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
I noticed he tried to
pull an outside pitch in his last AB. Soft grounder to short
BlueSox - July 27, 2008
Trying to hit homers...this team will start hitting when they start trying to hit to the gaps
VolPowers - July 27, 2008

cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
they are all trying to pull the outside pitches
JB 23 - July 27, 2008

CaliCub - July 27, 2008
And go with 11 pitchers
and 2 LHB PHers?
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
At this point
I don’t see a problem w/ 11 pitchers because Lou only uses 8 or so anyhow, but I see where you are coming from I don’t like CaliCubs idea
CHCOWNTHECENTRAL - July 27, 2008
Fine..
Let’s just DFA anyone that goes into a slump….Geez..
Bump Bailey - July 27, 2008
DFA Marquis?
And eat 20 million?
Ummmmm….not going to happen.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Better To Eat $20M Than The Brewers' Lunch
I always say….
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
He's not owed $20 million.
The idea is to get someone to take some his money for next year. Don’t be surprised if both Howry & Marquis get DFA’d & traded…
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
Remember,
even if you DFA a player, he has to clear waivers after Jul. 31, and and ML players you get in return have to clear waivers. Marquis probably would clear waivers, but Howry wouldn’t. And the Cubs would get either minor leaguers or another team’s garbage in return.
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
He needs to DFA'd before the deadline...
They both need to be.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008

I would just like for there to be a way that the Cubs can get rid of some of these nonperformers.

JB 23 - July 27, 2008
I don't think there's anything fair about it
with all due respect to llc.
Not Bruce Froemming - July 27, 2008
I Thought It Was Fair
My guess is that they’re pitching Fukudome low and away, Lee down and in, Soto high and away. They also know we don’t steal that well, and in the case of some of our pitchers they tend to nibble (so don’t swing at a pitch if you’re behind in the count unless it’s a “get me over” pitch).
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
That is what I dont understand
How could this “comment” be true?
louslovechild - July 27, 2008
Personally, I think Marshall should have the 5th spot in the rotation
Sure, he doesn’t have the stuff that Marquis has, but I think he knows how to pitch a lot more so than Mutton chops does
VolPowers - July 27, 2008
I like Sean's attitude, he's willing to do anything the team needs him to do,
and you never hear one word of complaint out of him.

VolPowers - July 27, 2008
Scottie's been looking like he's dying to get in a game,
with balls flying out today, think he’s still gung-ho to get in this game?
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
He may not have a choice
VolPowers - July 27, 2008
Almost (but not really) want Marquis to get his head bashed in here.....
convince the Cubs that he just completely stinks…....and he will be in for awhile…..
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
ahh.come on now
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
I said almost......I would much rather he straightens his crap out and we come back and win
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
Time for this offense to show up..Its actually way past time
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
way, way past time.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
Marquis is not that far from losing the crowd. Ask Corey, Jaque and LaTroy how that went.
VolPowers - July 27, 2008
There is no use complaining about Marquis...I just hope our offense stops stinking..
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
OK, Sori's going to get it started this inning.
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
Brewfans must be having an
orgasm of joy right now. Oh well. 12 years since the first NL team to reach 60 wins won the series…make it 13.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Go back to Brewer land buddy.
It’s called a slump. The Brewers were in one for 2 months.
ARAM FOR MVP - July 27, 2008
Slump or trending down?
I hate the Brewers and don’t you forget it!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Huh?
Not Bruce Froemming - July 27, 2008
I'm just frustrated with all these ledge jumpers.
Think before you post people.
ARAM FOR MVP - July 27, 2008
I have hit the panic button...
I think it is time to for other (Jim Hendry) to do the same!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
I also think Hendry should make a deal
but in no way shape or form should the panic button be hit.
ARAM FOR MVP - July 27, 2008
and do what?
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
Best You Could Hope For
is a “more of the same” guy. By that I mean a guy with numbers not significantly better than a Lee or ARam or DeRo, but someone you’d still get in the hope that you can get lightning in a bottle for the next two months. Plus they’d have to come from a team willing to accept the middling prospects the Cubs could offer.
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
I guess I don't understand
first of all, where does this guy come from?
second of all, do you really want to bench Lee or Rami?
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
See, You Wouldn't Bench Lee/ARam
You’d work the new player into the mix, spelling Lee/Dome/whoever once or twice a day. Not someone who would REPLACE our guys right now…someone who you would hope would be be hot while the current lineup thaws out.
Guys I have in mind would be Ibanez or Catalanotto or Kearns. Bargain dudes that you could only hope that a change of scenery would spark them.
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
I look at this the same way I look at Pie.
You don’t come out of slumps sitting on the bench.
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
Even For Just a Day or Two?
That’s what I’m saying here…or trying to. My English ain’t so well.
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
Did it help?
sue369 - July 27, 2008
thanks so much for your insight and brilliant analysis
Emelie - July 27, 2008
In my wildest dreams I would have never guessed
they’d come home and continue to look this bad. I don’t even care about Milwaukee right now. Our team looks B-A-D and nothing Lou tries is working.
Mapmaker - July 27, 2008
Lou looks like he has lost this team
hopefully he can get them back.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
"Lou looks like he has lost this team"
You lost me there
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
Not Sure I Agree
They’re trying to do too much, it seems. They’d be mailing it in if Lou lost them.
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
Lou can only do so much
There are only so many buttons to press for him.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
well...
maybe a BIG series liek the one against the brewers can fire up the offense
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
I sure hope it does.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
I fear this board is gonna get uglier than the game itself if we don't do a little rallying...
and just think we get to take this act on the road to Milwaukee….......I shudder to think what this board will be like after that 4 game series…....
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
planning vacations for 1st week in october
That’s what this team will be doing if they dont make adjustments
parrotinct - July 27, 2008
Marquis will not go back out there...
Shark & Marshall are fresh, as is Eyre.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
Marshall is not available, he pitched 3 innings yesterday.
eswan9 - July 27, 2008
I forgot that, thank you.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
I think you will see Marquis again
I doubt they want to break into the pen this quick.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
+1
eswan9 - July 27, 2008
I think you might.
They don’t want to go the pen this early, but Marquis doesn’t have it today. This is a game that they can’t let get out of hand.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
Why is it marquis fault all the time
yes he looks horrible today,
But today would have been a possible sweep day if the offensive showed up friday & saturday
parrotinct - July 27, 2008
Good point
Not Bruce Froemming - July 27, 2008
The fault points directly
at the bats.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
It's not his fault all the time...
...only when he pitches. j/k
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
Sori single
CHCOWNTHECENTRAL - July 27, 2008
He's looking better today!
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
Soriano
is starting to get his stroke back.
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
very good sign and Dome's a bit better it seems too
Emelie - July 27, 2008
twss
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
Take a walk!!
Itchy - July 27, 2008
OK, I'll take a double.
Itchy - July 27, 2008
Dump Marquis
Enough of Jason Marquis already! Put Marshall in the 5th spot. Marquis is a lousy second half pitcher historically. He is of no use.
sanks - July 27, 2008
maybe it takes a bad start by a pitcher to make these hitters
dig deep and wake up. Let’s just see how they respond. Stranger things have happened.
The 8 guys in the line up have not been getting timely hits when we have had great starting pitching, so maybe this is what it takes to wake the bats up.
Think outside the box.
LAcarl519 - July 27, 2008
I like the way you think!
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
Here we go, I feel a rally coming!
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
Once they flip the switch
Its watch out NL and everyone in the way. This team is too good to just hang their heads and walk away.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
I agree
sue369 - July 27, 2008
good at At Bat by TheRiot
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
why did Soriano stop?
BigDcubbie - July 27, 2008
Quade was playing a bit conservative
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
no outs
don’t want to get thrown out at home with no outs
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
true
and with Lee’s groundout, at least we get on the board
BigDcubbie - July 27, 2008
We are down 5 and our "clutch" guys are up....in theory
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
yes...
theory
BigDcubbie - July 27, 2008
Its about time.....
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
Theriot double Sori to third
I think Sori could have scored there but he wisely stopped safely at third
CHCOWNTHECENTRAL - July 27, 2008
there we go riot
SouthsideCUBSfan - July 27, 2008
A debatable hold at third...
but I think it’s the right decision. You don’t want a rally to be killed before it begins.
WartburgCub - July 27, 2008
Can Soriano take a bigger turn around 2nd??
odd baserunning
Itchy - July 27, 2008
anyone forget that
this team can come back….they can get out of slumps…and they can win!!!!
go cubbies!!
go away troills
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
"TROLLS" i mean
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
Troills too...I hate those guys! :-)
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
haha
me too
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
its amazing how quiet it is now for 5 minutes when we are hitting the ball
maddux1-27-07 - July 27, 2008
kind of nice
sue369 - July 27, 2008
amen...
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
We do and we pray
parrotinct - July 27, 2008
Agreed completely
This thing is going to turn around and in a big way! Away trolls, away with you!
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
Well said
sue369 - July 27, 2008
good thing no one at first
parrotinct - July 27, 2008
wow..Lee got his Double Play swing going..but luckily 1st base was open
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
Got the run in, but another terrible swing by Lee
VolPowers - July 27, 2008
we got 1
At least we’re not being shut out now
cubbie1029 - July 27, 2008
Well we got a run.....DLee hits mucho ground balls in big situations it seems....
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
Way to go Slugger!
Ground out to SS. Way to step up.
Itchy - July 27, 2008
That looked gone off the bat
WartburgCub - July 27, 2008
YEA!!!!
Emelie - July 27, 2008
Ground Rule double
Theriot scores 5-2 1 out
CHCOWNTHECENTRAL - July 27, 2008
Whoo hoo!
Go Aramis!
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
here we go.
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
Way To Go
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
ARam may be waking up a bit.......come on Edmonds.......make us smile a little....
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
YA! There ya go 1-4!
Thats how we want the top of the order to play
SouthsideCUBSfan - July 27, 2008
close one for aramis
Just a little more and it would have been gone
cubbie1029 - July 27, 2008
Time for the 5-7 hitters to make some hay!
VolPowers - July 27, 2008
Its going to take everyone
To get a win here. And to right the ship.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
1 thru 9 need to plant a whole field of hay today!
LAcarl519 - July 27, 2008
Where has this been
over the past month? Hope this continues!!!
PhillyCub - July 27, 2008
Like Lou said..don't get too giddy..we want them to be consistent
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
Maybe they can get down to the pitcher's spot.
Then they can pinch hit for Marquis.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
why?
marquis swings a good bat
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
b/c he doesn't have it today.
If they get down to the pitcher’s spot, then they could only be down a run or two. You sacrifice a pitcher for offense in a game like today’s game.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
understood
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
June 29, 2007
Rich Hill coughs up 5 runs before a single Cub bats. Cubs win 6-5 on a Ramirez walkoff! Anything is possible, unless you give up.
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
Boo ya.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
anyone watch TBS
Renolds make a lot of sense.
Harold Renolds for hitting coach
parrotinct - July 27, 2008
what did Harold say?
JB 23 - July 27, 2008
adjustments and Marquis pitching lanes
He is talking about how Jason just throws the ball in lanes.
All his pitches are moving in the same direction
parrotinct - July 27, 2008
The same Harold Reynolds who says that
Marquis is a flyball pitcher and that the curveball is his best pitch???
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
First game I went to last season
VolPowers - July 27, 2008
Only games I went to
were that one, and the one on June 2 where Lou got tossed. Can I pick ‘em or what?
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
JEdmonds working the count...
Emelie - July 27, 2008
Hope he gets a good one to rip.
Crap, K
Itchy - July 27, 2008
come on..Jimmaaay
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
he's pressing.
K
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
He had a pretty good AB though...
fouling off a couple 3-2 pitches.
WartburgCub - July 27, 2008
Too bad he fouled off ball four earlier in the count
BigJohnAZ - July 27, 2008
This guy's throwing the high fast ball on 3-1...done it twice now, hope the hitters are watching
VolPowers - July 27, 2008
They can't watch when they swing at it
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
Lee would be a good 7 hitter in this lineup, guy has no power
unfortunately we have no other options in the 3 hole
CubsBall2202 - July 27, 2008
Drake sucks
Drake totally screwed Marquis against Jacobs. Lou should have kicked dirt on him.
sanks - July 27, 2008
Edmonds whiffs
BigDcubbie - July 27, 2008
Edmonds made the dutch boy work his arm
Emelie - July 27, 2008
Edmonds is brutal…...
Reed's Johnson - July 27, 2008
swung at ball 4
cubbie1029 - July 27, 2008
Microcosm
Offense is swinging at ball four and pulling low and away stuff, etc..
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
Ha! Len's worried about his car getting hit,
(which happened earlier this year.)
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
There goes that rally..
Hilary Lee - July 27, 2008
they will pick it up later
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
why in the world is DeRo trying to pull every god darn pitch?
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
You've nothiced that, too?
BigJohnAZ - July 27, 2008
DeRo is worthless right now.
Itchy - July 27, 2008
I knew that sending 8 Cubs to NY for the all star game would not benefit this team
Reed's Johnson - July 27, 2008
More solid hitting with runners in scoring position
CubsBall2202 - July 27, 2008
Well we got 2
Jason just need to hold ‘em.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
Sucks to leave a man on 2nd
But a good inning nevertheless
Curtain Jerker - July 27, 2008
Crap....well we got our typical 2 runs.....which we have had in all 7 of our last losses....
Edmonds hitting 5th after sitting in the bench???? Hmmm…..and DeRosa hasn’t had a big hit in awhile…...
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
Cubs get a few.
Closer game than it was 3 outs ago.
Get your stuff together Marquis and put in a few good innings here!
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
Edmonds sure did swing at ball four
The problem we have is 6 runs wouldn’t be enough. No way is Marquis and this worn out bullpen going to hold it at 5-2.
sanks - July 27, 2008
Would of been a strike with Drake
parrotinct - July 27, 2008
we will see about that..1 step at a time..
cubsnlinux - July 27, 2008
Well, shut it off, then
Can you predict the lotto numbers tonight, too? Now that would be a real benefit to mankind.
Not Bruce Froemming - July 27, 2008
2 risp left in 3 innings
parrotinct - July 27, 2008
Well the good thing there
Is that at least they have had runners on. So, they should have had at least 4 RISP through the next 6 innings.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
Notice how the offense had better swings the 2nd time through the order?
That means there’s hope we can come back. We just have to keep chipping away. It’s early and we don’t have to get it all back at once.
Come on Jason, you can hold them!
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
I was thinking that too
but they still had a couple days rest after so who knows?
Mapmaker - July 27, 2008
Good start to the inning.
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
Can Jason Marquis pull his scruffy head out of his backside and keep it where it is???
Inquiring minds wanna know…...man, is the top of their lineup batting out of order? It seems like they are always up!!!
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
marquis cam settle down
so settle down, everyone
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
www.marquis-cam.com?
perv. :P
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
WHo knows… I doubt if the really rest any way on break..but I can dare to dream that they were getting their beauty rest and not partying
Reed's Johnson - July 27, 2008
Ownership
We can’t allow Reinsdorf, Einhorn and Selig pick our owner. They will pick a cheap ass.
sanks - July 27, 2008
Overflow
is up
Emelie - July 27, 2008
Ugh...
MLB.com has “After reaching the top, Brewers aim to stay there” as a headline. I don’t think I’ll be able to turn on SportsCenter tonight even if we win… the Brewers fawning will just make me gag.
Hilary Lee - July 27, 2008
You mean SportsCenter alone doesn't make you gag?
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
Frontrunners
The dollar-driven media loves the team du jour.
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
Agreed - I am not sure how you trun down the highest biider
Reed's Johnson - July 27, 2008
Jason Marquis - TFU
willie mays hayes' gloves - July 27, 2008
Canning
I really hope Canning is out of this. He is a Bud shrill. Micheal Sneed said Canning was trying to push the sale of Wrigley to the state. Sounds like Reinsdorf, he stole 200 million to build the Cell.
sanks - July 27, 2008
"What's That On Your Shirt?" DOING!
Remember that stale gag from fourth grade? My fear is that Reinsdorf would figuratively do that to Canning whenever possible.
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
Cubs need to be patient
Marquis just walked this pitcher is wild. Don’t let him off the hook.
sanks - July 27, 2008
If they can pull this one out I'll believe again
I’m a “what have you done for me lately” kind of guy. I know, my wife hates that too.
CubFaninNY - July 27, 2008
Alfonso!
TyCubsfan - July 27, 2008
We welcome the ledge jumpers back into the fold!
eswan9 - July 27, 2008
I'm baaaaaaack!
See how little it takes?
:-)
CubFaninNY - July 27, 2008
Stros jump ahead!
5-4 Houston!
we may look back at today as the deciding factor in this the 2008 season.
CubFaninNY - July 27, 2008
8-4 Astros!!!
