No game in Tallahassee, SUN Sports is not showing it, TBS is blacked out, and can’t watch on MLB.tv. Florida’s blackout rules are ridiculous, 5 hours from Tampa Bay and 10 hours from Florida and we get blacked out.
Less than 400 at a Marlins game in September of 07....?
At a 3A high school soccer game on Monday, about 400 people came out to watch Western Guilford play rival Western Alamance.
It’s estimated, meanwhile, that fewer than 400 people attended the Florida Marlins’ 5-4 extra-innings victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. .. After seeing highlights of this game, I’d say that 400 is a generous figure.
This could be an underexageration, but I wouldnt doubt thats its true.. more important might be the soccer mom in the picture
Isn’t that the lady with the short gray hair they always show behind the dugout in the 7th inning? Anyone else know anything about her? She’s ALWAYS there!
a stone cold Fukudome < a red hot Fontenot? What rationale could there be for keeping the hot hand on the bench while an automatic out exists in the lineup?
I am happy for you that everything works out. For me, the teams that I root for (Cubs, Hawkeyes, Chiefs) haven’t been kind to me in my lifetime. Some ups…yes. Unfortunately…many more downs. Now, the teams that I played for, and coach currently…much better. But, I am not just a observer in those, but I can have a larger impact.
I’m talking life in general. I couldn’t go through life like some on here evidently do expecting the worst all the time. They are ball games played by humans. Humans are not perfect so some days you win (like today :D ) and some days you lose. There are so many things in this world right now more important than ball games.
Feel free to dogpile on me if you all wish, but when I can't be here for the game (or I don't feel like sitting in front of the computer responding to insults)...
My reading on these threads the following day is based on the team’s performance. If they win, I will check out gameday, and get my stats and it’s all good. Hooray. I am happy.
When they lose, I read the threads. Why, you ask? Because I want the unfiltered, unfettered analysis that you people give. You won’t get fined by MLB for saying that an umpire is full of crap or that a player made a bonehead play. I want an autopsy. I want to know what went wrong.
I think that Bruce (who I am sure is the nicest guy in the world) fits that description. He just does it behind the guise of positivity. He tries to stir “trolls” up. Gawd, I hate that word you all use.
not everyone posts, i'll give you that tapdeer, you may follow and be hardcore, but there have been a handful of individuals the past week just showing up late in threads or when cubs are down posting nonsense, DREW isnt callin you out, promise
im unfortunately out with an achilles tear and havent missed a game all year, not one!
so watching each thread you can tell who has been here and who shows up late to start troling. its a big difference between not posting to follow the game and being a troll, no one said you were a troll tapdeer.
go back and read the first game thread and you will see who those are who only post when we aren’t playing well. They are no where to be seen on here right now.
I spent a good chunk of my life in Boston and still have family there… my niece and nephew are rabid BoSox fans and my bro is going to tonight’s Sox-Yankees game. Lucky guy. He’ll likely call me while he’s in the stands.
i like the titans in the afc, and the bears in the nfc… i guess if i had to pick an AL team i would probably pick the rays? lol i dunno i guess bc they are a hamster among giants
I remember a comment by someone on the Cubs farm team
when The Shark pitched his first game in the minors, that he could tell this kid wouldn’t get shook, He’d been in front of big crowds and tough game situations.
but she made a drunken rant that included “F* Notre Dame”, “F* Touchdown Jesus”, and (I think) even “F* Jesus”. You can find her on-air apology on YouTube.
I would say after all the injuries and surgeries and the years taken off your life from your body getting its ass wooped also qualifies MLB as a better money maker for your career
to be looked back on as a HUGE win in terms of the season. I am not proclaiming anything, BUT if something were to happen this year, this game may be pointed at as a turnaround game. Couldn’t have come at a better time.
Momentum is the next days starting pitcher...yadda yadda yadda...
But they desperately needed a win. And to get it coming back from down 5, with some key contributions from some guys getting hot (Shark, Fonty, Sori, DLee….even). Dare to dream.
It is theirs to win or lose. There maybe scoreboard watching going on. But, if our boys take care of their business then they will be there at the end.
That is for sure. My thoughts are that if the Cubs play like they should they take 3 or sweep. That maybe a rosy outlook. But, what am I going to say? they will lose?
I don’t know if anyone has a stat for Cubs record when Fonty starts, but dang, he just always seems to come up clutch. I would love to see him back in the lineup at second more regularly with Theriot, and Dero (who I really like) going back to the super sub role. At least long enough to ride out Dero’s slump and Fonty’s hot streak.
will not go down the rest of the year. He will will likely close until Wood gets back & then he’ll be the other primary RH set up guy in place of Howry.
He has the swagger as I said before. It’s a confidence that just screams when he is on the mound. Most impressive. If Marmol takes control of his fastball again and has some confidence it is most impressive.
I really think that it is time for him to go, but they won’t DFA him. No one will take him, and they won’t eat that salary. I think that Marshall will go. They don’t need three lefties in the pen, and he really is more of a starter than a reliever. The relief role isn’t for him. The cubs don’t have the stones to say see you later to Howry. Pinella still hasn’t lost enough faith in him to bury him on the bullpen bench. He still STILL puts him into close games.
but don't kid yourself. Marshall is the perfect 2-3 inning guy to have in Harden's starts, even if he finishes
the games some times if we (ever!) can have 3-4 run leads. Harden will never go more than 6-7 innings, so it will be great to have Marshall as a lefty 2-3 inning guy for those games. And you may have Marshall start when you want another lefty in a series (with Lilly) when a team has a bad record against lefties. The guy can have an important role on this team.
That way Howry can leave and make room for the Shark. Howry gets put on the 15 day DL and the Cubs can see if he has anything left in his tank. Marshall I think is too important as an innings eater. He is much better than Lieber.
And if Howry does go on the DL, it needs to be for something like what Kaz Matzui had earlier this year – an anal fissure. That way no one asks because they assume something that embarrassing must be real.
The Cubs are making it pretty obvious what is going to happen.
Marshall will probably go into the 5th starter’s spot in place of Marquis, (who will be DFA’d if they find anybody willing to take some of his ‘09 money. Howry will be DFA’d, because it is obvious he is finished. The Shark will close until Woody gets back, and then he’ll be the other primary RH set-up guy with Marmol.
I had the game on, turned it off when Jacobs hit his second HR. Went outside to play w/ the dogs. Came in to get something to drink/check the score… just as Riot GIDP so I turned it off again….
Damn. It would completely be my luck for this to be “the year” and me not be able to watch it b/c I’m worried I’m bad luck.
Don't you think it is self-centered to believe that you are the reason the Cubs lose.
I think Howry is bad luck. Marquis on the other hand, seems to be good luck. We are over 500 in his starts, yet he is a below-averager pitcher. Go figure.
I am sure you watched the first part of the season when the cubs lit up the scoreboard. The cubs troubles go much deeper than a half blind cubbie girl :) Here is hoping that the confidence of today’s win carries over to the upcoming series.
i just hope jeff has a long & happy career with the cubbies. unlike fellow nd alum aaron heilman who was stuck in the bullpen early in his career with the mets and has never re-emerged as a starter
First!
Let’s go 1-2-3 Gaudin!

DeRosa

drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
Again..DeRo Would PLATOON With Dome
Absolutely I agree that DeRo isn’t a full time OF. But it seems time to maximize the offense, today’s outburst notwithstanding.
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
no
because sitting DeRosa half the time when he’s having a career year is, imo, a bad idea.

cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008

BigDcubbie - July 27, 2008
NOW, is everyone feeling better?
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
yea,
the trolls have no material, so we are happy
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
you make it sound like they prefer it when the cubs lose
RightFieldSucks - July 27, 2008
I think
some of them do.
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
absolutely
Emelie - July 27, 2008
They'd Rather Be Right Than Have the Cubs Win
SOME of them, that is…not all the naysayers…
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
maybe true for some...but I wouldn't generalize too much.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
If they would come in
here an cheer with us when the Cubs are doing well it would be different. They only show up when the Cubs are doing bad.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
So.....am I a troll then?
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
you're still here.
two innings to go. What will you do?
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
So you think I am a troll...
you are so lost
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
I did not say that.
but we’ll see how you answer my question.
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
Aren't you here cheering?
If you just came in to bitch then I would say you were but you’re here cheering just like the rest of us.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
YES!!!!!
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
But if things fall apart...
I am going to try and do an autopsy and figure out what is going wrong.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
They aren't going
to fall apart. Have faith.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
No, I hope that they don't fall apart...cause if they do...Dear God, I will fall apart...
But….I won’t have faith…I have no reason to. I will just Hope/Pine/Wish/Cheer/Cry/Scream/and hope some more. But Faith? Based on what?
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
You either have faith
or you don’t. I’m not one to go through life thinking the worst is going to happen.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
Sorry....but you haven't walked in my shoes...
I am happy for you that everything works out. For me, the teams that I root for (Cubs, Hawkeyes, Chiefs) haven’t been kind to me in my lifetime. Some ups…yes. Unfortunately…many more downs. Now, the teams that I played for, and coach currently…much better. But, I am not just a observer in those, but I can have a larger impact.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
I'm not talking about sports so much.
I’m talking life in general. I couldn’t go through life like some on here evidently do expecting the worst all the time. They are ball games played by humans. Humans are not perfect so some days you win (like today :D ) and some days you lose. There are so many things in this world right now more important than ball games.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
It all revolves around the manner in which the analysis occurs
if it’s thoughtful and well stated, backed by facts, then go for it.
Emelie - July 27, 2008
I would like to think that I am for the most part. But if it isn't super positive, then I get replies from a pair of regulars.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
you know truthfully Im so happy that right now I dont care
but anyone when the game is this exciting can ponder how they will autoposy if the game falls apart…..
has zero respect for the game of baseball. I kinda feel sorry for you.
Madison Cub Fan - July 27, 2008
Not this game...But any game.
Dang…I sure don’t think that this game can fall apart.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
Today, just win baby!!!
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
trolls are a species all their own
acerbic, childish, attention-whores.
Emelie - July 27, 2008
You Rang?
LOL
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
you scamp
Emelie - July 27, 2008
Honestly....
I think that Bruce (who I am sure is the nicest guy in the world) fits that description. He just does it behind the guise of positivity. He tries to stir “trolls” up. Gawd, I hate that word you all use.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
no,
but there is nothing wrong with posting something other thats stupid crap
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
I'm still worried
about this pen getting 6 outs with no runs
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Have no fear,
the shark is coming in to eat the fish!
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
The Shark
will take ‘em.
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008

Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008

maddux1-27-07 - July 27, 2008

Emelie - July 27, 2008
much better
SouthsideCUBSfan - July 27, 2008
Perhaps Pat Fitzgerald could be persuaded to sing more often?
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
Today
I had a feeling going into todays game this was a big turning point of the season we could fall out of first and also we face Milwaukee next week.
puckishcubsfan - July 27, 2008
Perfect timing, right before the Brewers' series...
And unlike the game in Houston, they were hitting a pretty good pitcher.
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
I'm out, folks
Time to go to work. Batten down the hatches for the last two innings and let’s go into Milwaukee with a one-game lead.
Not Bruce Froemming - July 27, 2008
hell..yeah..have fun....let them hear you in Miller Park

Remember back when it was 5-0 Marlins and 4-1 Brewers........funny how quickly things turn
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
let's all note
the names that AREN’T posting right now.
I feel like the 500lb weight that’s been on my shoulders is gone…
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
Yeah just for fun
I went back and checked the first pitch thread. It’s ugly back there in the past…
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
i was thinking the same, feels better than the last few days, back to baseball, no fending off trolls
maddux1-27-07 - July 27, 2008
good point hadnt thought of that.
Madison Cub Fan - July 27, 2008
Maybe they aren't here.
Are they here for EVERY loss? Or does it just seem that way?
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
dood.
I’m on the game thread for 8 out of 10 games. You admit you rarely visit the game threads. Stop suggesting that I’m off base here.
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
not everyone posts, i'll give you that tapdeer, you may follow and be hardcore, but there have been a handful of individuals the past week just showing up late in threads or when cubs are down posting nonsense, DREW isnt callin you out, promise
maddux1-27-07 - July 27, 2008
im unfortunately out with an achilles tear and havent missed a game all year, not one!
so watching each thread you can tell who has been here and who shows up late to start troling. its a big difference between not posting to follow the game and being a troll, no one said you were a troll tapdeer.
maddux1-27-07 - July 27, 2008
When you have time go
go back and read the first game thread and you will see who those are who only post when we aren’t playing well. They are no where to be seen on here right now.
sue369 - July 27, 2008

BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
This game almost feels like the Rockies game.
Except that the Marlins are a much better team than the Rockies.
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
Ross is an idiot for slamming his bat on the railing like that
the barrel could have broken off and hit a teammate or flown into the stands. The league should fine him
LAcarl519 - July 27, 2008
I saw that on the replay
And was so happy that it didnt happen on the Cubs side. The way the bats are exploding this year he was playing with fire.

CaliCub - July 27, 2008
most certainly
I spent a good chunk of my life in Boston and still have family there… my niece and nephew are rabid BoSox fans and my bro is going to tonight’s Sox-Yankees game. Lucky guy. He’ll likely call me while he’s in the stands.

SouthsideCUBSfan - July 27, 2008
As a ND student and a Cubs diehard - I love the Shark.
swimfan - July 27, 2008
The Shark seems to have a swagger.
A confidence that comes across when you watch him. He challenges them and it seems to say “See if you can hit this”.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
I remember a comment by someone on the Cubs farm team
when The Shark pitched his first game in the minors, that he could tell this kid wouldn’t get shook, He’d been in front of big crowds and tough game situations.
BigJohnAZ - July 27, 2008
So if we don't score
Marmol is going to have to go through the heart of the Marlins Order.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
I don't think
Marmol’s going to start the inning.
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
I think Lou is going to let the Shark start the 9th
with 4 games against the BrewCrew, he wants to not use any more arms, seems to be the theory.
yesterday was too hard on the bullpen
LAcarl519 - July 27, 2008
OK by me
And have someone ready (Marmol?) just in case.
ChipSet - July 27, 2008
besides
the Shark may be more stable than Marmol right now anyway.
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
Go Jeff good job and go Irish!

Help, I'm Surrounded By Touchdown Jesus!
CaliCub - July 27, 2008

preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
OT: Dana Jacobson
What she did at that Charlie Weis dinner was not cool, but I still find her hot-looking.
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
What did she do?
I am not aware of this story.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
Got Sh$%faced And Cussed a Blue Streak
“F%
! ND, F%! Touchdown Jesus, etc..”CaliCub - July 27, 2008
Amazingly it's not on YouTube
but she made a drunken rant that included “F* Notre Dame”, “F* Touchdown Jesus”, and (I think) even “F* Jesus”. You can find her on-air apology on YouTube.
ChipSet - July 27, 2008
wow. self destructive much?
Emelie - July 27, 2008
But She's Still Hot, No?
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
OT - Yep, and get ready for a run of great years for ND.
Cubfansince1957 - July 27, 2008
could we stop this ND talk. I'm still trying to digest my lunch (onthe west coast)
LAcarl519 - July 27, 2008
if we could stay away from the ND references when it comes to the Shark that would help
many Cub fans are NOT ND fans.
LAcarl519 - July 27, 2008
Dude what is the Marlins' problem?
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Who cares.
As long as the W flies today.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
DLEE was guessing fastball there
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Pretty amazing story.
To go from being a 5th round draft choice to the majors in just over a year is incredible.
Matt Allison - July 27, 2008
Who?
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
shoeless joe
RightFieldSucks - July 27, 2008
Jeff Spellcheck
Shark. A little late on my reply there.
Matt Allison - July 27, 2008
Jeff Spellcheck

Instant Poll: Shark or Marmol in the 9th?
Cubfansince1957 - July 27, 2008
Marmol isn't available today.
This is the Shark’s game to save.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
Shark to start ‘cause he’s got the Mo… if he gets into trouble then my neighbor (sort of) Marmol!
Hilary Lee - July 27, 2008
Lou votes for the shark.
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
Marmol!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Shark
BlueSox - July 27, 2008
3 outs to go
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Would...
The Shark make more money with a career in MLB or the NFL? Just curious….
Hilary Lee - July 27, 2008
mlb salaries are generally proportionally higher
no salary cap and all that
RightFieldSucks - July 27, 2008
especially since he'd be an middle-of-the-road NFL WR at best
RightFieldSucks - July 27, 2008
Plus, he's more likely to have a longer career in MLB.
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
also a good point
RightFieldSucks - July 27, 2008
Does
It make a difference that he’s an RP (probably eventual SP) vs a WR?
I’m just kind of wondering if he chose baseball for love of baseball or because it was more profitable…
Hilary Lee - July 27, 2008
MLB players have longer careers then NFL recievers, I believe
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
Longer careers, better salaries, and longer, healthier lives overall
The NFL is hell on the body. Just ask Bo Jackson.
ChipSet - July 27, 2008
no salary cap in MLB
I would say after all the injuries and surgeries and the years taken off your life from your body getting its ass wooped also qualifies MLB as a better money maker for your career
SouthsideCUBSfan - July 27, 2008
Not to mention
You can normally walk after a long MLB career
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
And think
BlueSox - July 27, 2008
No Guaranteed Contracts in NFL
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
Buckle up!
On to the top of the 9th
PhillyCub - July 27, 2008
Through 8 Hou up 11-5
mkcubs21 - July 27, 2008
I have to say.
As things have gone lately. I feel better with the Shark in there to get the save than Marmol. Not to say this will always be the case.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
Leaving Shark in.
Good move. Today was his pitch on the side day; he’s got a nice lead, and it’ll be great for his confidence.
Matt Allison - July 27, 2008
Closing is hard to do
I’m Scared…Hold me!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
the great thing
about this kid is that he’s used to big crowds and big game pressure. gotta love him.
Matt Allison - July 27, 2008
Can the Shark get this thing wrapped up?????
I believe….....
razzpunk - July 27, 2008
He will.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
Bring in
Bobby Howry! That guy is lights out!
Er…nevermind…
Hilary Lee - July 27, 2008

and you now Neil is lights out….oh, wait….maybe not
BigDcubbie - July 27, 2008
Howry is up....WHY?
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Take the pressure off Shark
by not saying, “It’s all on your shoulders, kid.”
ChipSet - July 27, 2008
Wow.....

tapdeer - July 27, 2008
agreed was kind of iffy at first, but then I realized that the mature thing to do would be to hope he helps the team and root for the Cubs.
Villeslgr - July 27, 2008
Sharks' reaction was totally awesome.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
somehow, that bad game by Marquis made this win sweeter

sue369 - July 27, 2008
Weeks with a lead off triple in the bottom of the 9th. no outs.
Houston still up 11-5
mkcubs21 - July 27, 2008
Well, I was 1.5 out of 3
I correctly predicted Sori’s hot streak
I incorrectly predicted that Marquis would only give up 3
I predicted the win, but missed the score (6-3)
Should I buy a lottery ticket or not????
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
Save your money for playoff tickets!
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
But, if I win the lottery, I'll be able to pay for the plane ticket too!
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008

Great comeback, boys!!
Let’s keep it rolling into Bratville!
Itchy - July 27, 2008
This has the POTENTIAL...
to be looked back on as a HUGE win in terms of the season. I am not proclaiming anything, BUT if something were to happen this year, this game may be pointed at as a turnaround game. Couldn’t have come at a better time.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
Momentum is the next days starting pitcher...yadda yadda yadda...
But they desperately needed a win. And to get it coming back from down 5, with some key contributions from some guys getting hot (Shark, Fonty, Sori, DLee….even). Dare to dream.
Send the brewers to their beers in tears boys!!!!
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
The cubs have the team
It is theirs to win or lose. There maybe scoreboard watching going on. But, if our boys take care of their business then they will be there at the end.

I understand that Scott Eyre's next appearance
will be on “What’s My Line”
That guy must wonder if he will ever pitch again.
But let’s hear it for Gaudin & the Shark today. Great pick me up!!!
LAcarl519 - July 27, 2008
Pen still scares me
You have Marmol who is great and horrible from one day to the next
Wood is hurt and something tells me it’s not a blister
Gaudin shows he’s good at times but also give up runs in key situations
Shark is a rookie who has been hit hard at times.
The other 3 guys down there aren’t worth the food they feed them at the clubhouse buffet.
I really hope we get one more lock down pen person.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
Smoltz?
nervousCUBlover - July 27, 2008
You are aware that Smoltz had shoulder surgery in June, aren't you?
DeRoMyHero - July 27, 2008
at times?
he’s pitched in two games in the majors, to the same team.
I’m not saying he’s the second coming of Woody, but let’s give him a few more chances, eh?
drewishdrewid - July 27, 2008
hopefully sabathia

preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008

how / when will the team go up to milwaukee? bus? tonight / tomorrow? do any of the players drive up individually? always wondered with a closeby game

That is for sure. My thoughts are that if the Cubs play like they should they take 3 or sweep. That maybe a rosy outlook. But, what am I going to say? they will lose?
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
It will be nice to see the midwest getting a lil attention
Madison Cub Fan - July 27, 2008

as far as the series, I hope they win at least two. Losing this series would be tough. More than two wins is Gravy.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
i hate to say it...
but it feels nice to only hear complaints on the normal howry’s of the world and thats it
preachermancubsfan - July 27, 2008
HAHA - Marquis' T Shirt
It says “Love Me Tender”. Oh brother….....
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
the problem with marquis
...he’s just not good at baseball
nervousCUBlover - July 27, 2008
I need some cowbell and more Fonty in the lineup
I don’t know if anyone has a stat for Cubs record when Fonty starts, but dang, he just always seems to come up clutch. I would love to see him back in the lineup at second more regularly with Theriot, and Dero (who I really like) going back to the super sub role. At least long enough to ride out Dero’s slump and Fonty’s hot streak.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
Man, when's the last time Lou sounded so excited?
He’s liked the shark since he first saw him in spring training last year.
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
He has something to be excited about.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
Warren Wallace (Geico Commercial)
That kid is too intense. Creeps me out. Like one of those Palestinian 5-year old wired with explosives.
CaliCub - July 27, 2008
the radio is just now playing Lous press conference
Madison Cub Fan - July 27, 2008
The Shark...
will not go down the rest of the year. He will will likely close until Wood gets back & then he’ll be the other primary RH set up guy in place of Howry.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
I would have no problem with that.
Madison Cub Fan - July 27, 2008
The guy is ready-made
for the show. Like Lou said, “cool as a cucumber.”
Matt Allison - July 27, 2008
I hope so
It should be Wood closing (obviously). With Shark and Marmol being setup. That is just nastiness for a 7th, 8th and 9th there.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
Nasty
is an understatement…I’m getting a bit warm in my happy places!
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
that is a bit tmi dude
Madison Cub Fan - July 27, 2008
I meant the living room and the kitchen
have to turn on the AC. Why, what’d u think I meant? :-)
Goodie1969 - July 27, 2008
LOL!!!!
sue369 - July 27, 2008
As was I watching the Shark pitch today.
He has the swagger as I said before. It’s a confidence that just screams when he is on the mound. Most impressive. If Marmol takes control of his fastball again and has some confidence it is most impressive.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
Excellent point
Mamol will look at the Shark and go “hey, I could be that guy.” Shark just might help Marmol raise his game by example.
Matt Allison - July 27, 2008
just like Dome raised the patience level early one
Emelie - July 27, 2008
I think you
are correct. He was just awesome today.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
Agreed
He was a lot of fun to watch today
gwood - July 27, 2008
That works for me.
I WANT WOOD BACK PLEASE!!!!! I miss my kerry. :(
slcathena - July 27, 2008
agreed
100%, our bullpen is just not the same without him
gwood - July 27, 2008
Exactly.
I get so nervous in the 9th now, even with a decent lead! This must be the nastiest blister in history. :(
slcathena - July 27, 2008
so true
Madison Cub Fan - July 27, 2008
don't know if it's true
but I heard it went down to the nerve? Anyone confirm/refute?
Emelie - July 27, 2008
No nerve.
Just a nasty blister…
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
I miss Woody too.
halfblindcubbiegirl - July 27, 2008
Hey girl!
I knew you’d agree with me!
slcathena - July 27, 2008
great minds think alike :)
Madison Cub Fan - July 27, 2008
who goes when woody returns
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
I would think Howry
but that’s ust my guess.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
I agree with this
slcathena - July 27, 2008
I sure hope so
Emelie - July 27, 2008
Howry,
see above.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
when do they think woody comes back?
Madison Cub Fan - July 27, 2008
At one time they
said Tues. but not sure what they are saying now.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
We *NEED* him for this series.
slcathena - July 27, 2008
i don't disagree, but that's not realistic
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
What is not realistic?
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
Not only is it realistic.
It will happen.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
Nope.
He still STILL puts him into close games.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
but don't kid yourself.
LAcarl519 - July 27, 2008
And that piggy backing helps force line up shuffles too
b/c they’re going to load up on LHBs for Harden… then you bring in the Lanky Lefty Sean…
I like it.
halfblindcubbiegirl - July 27, 2008
Lanky Lefty Sean...
I like that. It has a nice ring to it.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
Gotta have the Sean on the end
on the off chance that Lanky Lefty Rich returns. :-P
halfblindcubbiegirl - July 27, 2008
What about a phantom injury?
That way Howry can leave and make room for the Shark. Howry gets put on the 15 day DL and the Cubs can see if he has anything left in his tank. Marshall I think is too important as an innings eater. He is much better than Lieber.
swimfan - July 27, 2008
Now this...this may happen
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
This is the year of the phantom injury being overused by teams...
the may need to alter how the disabled list works if this continues…
So far I know that the cubs and cardinals have both used the disabled list in this fashion.
tapdeer - July 27, 2008
Don't think the phanton injury is being used any more this year than in the past.
Maybe they need to have a mental DL?
cowsarecool220 - July 27, 2008
That would be a good idea
Madison Cub Fan - July 27, 2008
it is not a phantom injury
when Lou has Tanya Harding take a tire iron to Howry’s right knee cap.
LAcarl519 - July 27, 2008
It was Tanya Harding's boyfriend.
And if Howry does go on the DL, it needs to be for something like what Kaz Matzui had earlier this year – an anal fissure. That way no one asks because they assume something that embarrassing must be real.
swimfan - July 27, 2008
Paging Jeff Gillooly
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - July 27, 2008
this makes a lot of sense
Emelie - July 27, 2008
The Cubs are making it pretty obvious what is going to happen.
Marshall will probably go into the 5th starter’s spot in place of Marquis, (who will be DFA’d if they find anybody willing to take some of his ‘09 money. Howry will be DFA’d, because it is obvious he is finished. The Shark will close until Woody gets back, and then he’ll be the other primary RH set-up guy with Marmol.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
Marshall is WAY too valuable to let go
He can start if God Forbid one of our starters go down.
He’s a great lefty out of the pen who can give you 2+ innings in a bad situation.
There is no way he goes away
slcathena - July 27, 2008
Feels Great to be able to post this again!!
On Milwaukee and a bigger Central Lead!!
gwood - July 27, 2008
It official:
I am bad luck.
I had the game on, turned it off when Jacobs hit his second HR. Went outside to play w/ the dogs. Came in to get something to drink/check the score… just as Riot GIDP so I turned it off again….
Damn. It would completely be my luck for this to be “the year” and me not be able to watch it b/c I’m worried I’m bad luck.
halfblindcubbiegirl - July 27, 2008
Don't you think it is self-centered to believe that you are the reason the Cubs lose.
I think Howry is bad luck. Marquis on the other hand, seems to be good luck. We are over 500 in his starts, yet he is a below-averager pitcher. Go figure.
I would keep watching
swimfan - July 27, 2008
I don't think you meant that how I read it,
but it came across as pretty…. well I’m not going to say the word I want b/c Al has asked us not to swear when its not necessary.
so, just whatever.
halfblindcubbiegirl - July 27, 2008
I didn't. I was using subtle sarcasm. I am sorry.
swimfan - July 27, 2008
You aren't bad luck.
I am sure you watched the first part of the season when the cubs lit up the scoreboard. The cubs troubles go much deeper than a half blind cubbie girl :) Here is hoping that the confidence of today’s win carries over to the upcoming series.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
You are not...
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
the shark
i am wondering if the shark continues to enjoy success out of the bullpenm whether that would preclude him from a starter’s role in the future
brian custer - July 27, 2008
It may for the rest of the year
But, going into spring training I am sure that they would give him a fair shot at it.
jajonez77 - July 27, 2008
theres no rule that just b/c you're good in the pen for a while
that you have to stay there. Lots were saying that he could be our Joba… lock down the pen for a while and then take over for a spot in the rotation.
I personally really like the idea. He can help stablize the ‘pen and then take over the rotation when Marquis leaves at the end of his contract.
halfblindcubbiegirl - July 27, 2008
For now, I like him in the bullpen. We need another arm in the bullpen.
swimfan - July 27, 2008
Same here.
sue369 - July 27, 2008
Don't worry,
The Shark isn’t going anywhere, I’d bet the farm on it.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
and if he went somewhere we'd need to get
someone else’s farm in return.
halfblindcubbiegirl - July 27, 2008
With big fields
Acres of cropland, a pasture, cows & pigs & chickens, oh my…
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
Well, I was thinking
less literal farm… but hey! gotta love farmland.
halfblindcubbiegirl - July 27, 2008
I know...
but I like to think big… Gotta love the farmland. Nothing like a nice big farm, neighbors at least a quarter mile away. It’s the best.
Jimmyeatworld - July 27, 2008
samardzija
i just hope jeff has a long & happy career with the cubbies. unlike fellow nd alum aaron heilman who was stuck in the bullpen early in his career with the mets and has never re-emerged as a starter
