Sabathia struggled in his only career start against the Cubs, allowing nine runs and eight hits in 2 1-3 innings for the Indians in a 9-2 loss on June 21, 2006.
today and felt fine, but it hurt when he threw with it off. I say this with as much affection as possible, but only Kerry Wood could have a blister that takes this long to heal.
I wasn’t saying that he lacks toughness or anything like that, I mean, if it hurts, it hurts. It just seems like it’s taking forever since they originally said it would take about a week to heal.
unfortunately i don’t have it. I am deployed with the navy so much, it doesn’t make sense to spend the money on it. But i wish i did have it at times like this!
w/sabathia on the mound especially – but i think we make him struggle through 6 and ted makes it 6 IP 3ER for a quality start and our pen holds (fingers crossed)
my wife just asked me the definition of southpaw or how it came about
A left-handed individual may be known as a southpaw, particularly in a sports context. It is widely accepted that the term originated in the United States, in the game of baseball.[24] Ballparks are often designed so that batters are facing east, so that the afternoon or evening sun does not shine in their eyes. This means that left-handed pitchers are throwing with their south-side arm.
... most older parks like Wrigley were built like that. But at the Cell, for example, home plate faces southeast. Thus a lefthander at the Cell is a “westpaw”.
THIS IS BIG

CubsBall2202 - July 28, 2008
Ugh, why isn't Cedeno starting at SS
More athletic and he has a laser, rocket arm compared to Theriot. Put The Riot at 2nd.
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
I don't understand why Lou can't see this.
Theriot could be a useful player—at 2B.
Al Yellon - July 28, 2008
We should put Peyton Manning at ss. Now he has a laser, rocket arm.
swimfan - July 28, 2008
and a bummed knee
preachermancubsfan - July 28, 2008
Wonder that myself...
Lou doesn’t want to bruise Ryan’s ego I guess…

preachermancubsfan - July 28, 2008
I guess it's proof that vegetarian diets
aren’t necessarily more healthful nor do they contribute to weight loss. After all, ice cream is vegetarian…

there’s vegetarian and then there’s vegetarian

I like Ryan Braun, to tell you the truth.
Especially how he stared down the 2R-HR(I believe) he had against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium last week. I thought that was badass.

All Lou said ‘so far’ today was he will NOT come off tomorrow.
malicedoom - July 28, 2008

JB 23 - July 28, 2008
Threw with some type of sleeve on his finger...
today and felt fine, but it hurt when he threw with it off. I say this with as much affection as possible, but only Kerry Wood could have a blister that takes this long to heal.
WartburgCub - July 28, 2008
That's not fair.
Any pitcher could get one of those. It’ll be fine. Eventually.
Al Yellon - July 28, 2008
I agree that it'll be fine eventually.
I wasn’t saying that he lacks toughness or anything like that, I mean, if it hurts, it hurts. It just seems like it’s taking forever since they originally said it would take about a week to heal.
WartburgCub - July 28, 2008
Fielder. A vegetarian?
My butt he’s on a vegetarian diet, he’s bigger than he was last year. Look at him, he looks like Rerun from “What’s hapenning?”
Jimmyeatworld - July 28, 2008
its all the oils and nuts
those things are fatty
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
Obviously candy bars are not off his diet plan.
Jimmyeatworld - July 28, 2008
Being a vegetarian has nothing to do with how much you weigh.

unfortunately i don’t have it. I am deployed with the navy so much, it doesn’t make sense to spend the money on it. But i wish i did have it at times like this!
bamix1 - July 28, 2008
It seems really important to shut them down here
West Coast Diehard - July 28, 2008
yes
Emelie - July 28, 2008
yeah we need to keep the momentum
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
Come on Teddy...
Brett Taylor - July 28, 2008
That would be because we are facing CC Sabathia
swimfan - July 28, 2008

I’ll feel pretty good LOL
BigJohnAZ - July 28, 2008
All I'm asking for is one more run than the Brewers score. Is that asking too much?
DeRoMyHero - July 28, 2008
Actually, that is the perfect request.
BigJohnAZ - July 28, 2008
I'll be

sue369 - July 28, 2008

GateCity, VA Cubs Fan - July 28, 2008
To be fair
He did have to battle against Fielder somewhat
Galvan316 - July 28, 2008
+1
lostinthevines - July 28, 2008
we sure don't want to tax the bullpen on game one....dang...
Still, I’ll take 3 strikeouts….
tapdeer - July 28, 2008
Hart and his bad flesh-colored beard
strike out chasing.
THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR BLOWING THE ALL-STAR GAME, TURD!!!!
lostinthevines - July 28, 2008
This is going to come down to a test of contrition
between the bullpens
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
too early to say that
w/sabathia on the mound especially – but i think we make him struggle through 6 and ted makes it 6 IP 3ER for a quality start and our pen holds (fingers crossed)
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
haha
i love listening to the results 5 seconds after everyone on here goes “YES!!”
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
That is nice
I hate it when I see “poop” and a few seconds later hear why.
BigJohnAZ - July 28, 2008
26 pitches
and too many ABs in that first. Happy for the goose egg, tho :)
Matt Allison - July 28, 2008
I have a feeling that if we are in good shape with Ted, Lou will leave him in longer
BigJohnAZ - July 28, 2008
Only a few more than CC
And Ted usually gets stronger the longer he goes.
Bump Bailey - July 28, 2008
yes he does
sue369 - July 28, 2008
TWSS
GoCubbies34 - July 28, 2008

Bump Bailey - July 28, 2008
Wow. Was that really only 1 inning?
jbau - July 28, 2008
I'm calling it...
DeRo will be 0-2, then will come up with a big hit his third time up.
(Remember, I was 1.5 out of 3 yesterday.)
DeRoMyHero - July 28, 2008
you were, but did any of your predictions involve DeRo?
tapdeer - July 28, 2008
No, except as one of "the guys".
DeRoMyHero - July 28, 2008
Ronny seems rather calm tonight!
How long do you think it will last?
cowsarecool220 - July 28, 2008
my wife just asked me the definition of southpaw or how it came about
A left-handed individual may be known as a southpaw, particularly in a sports context. It is widely accepted that the term originated in the United States, in the game of baseball.[24] Ballparks are often designed so that batters are facing east, so that the afternoon or evening sun does not shine in their eyes. This means that left-handed pitchers are throwing with their south-side arm.
Reed's Johnson - July 28, 2008
had to look it up
Reed's Johnson - July 28, 2008
smart lady to ask such a smart question!
cowsarecool220 - July 28, 2008
I thought it meant Rocky Balboa
(I feel so dumb)
malicedoom - July 28, 2008
Yo, Adrian!
BigJohnAZ - July 28, 2008
That's an old-style thing...
... most older parks like Wrigley were built like that. But at the Cell, for example, home plate faces southeast. Thus a lefthander at the Cell is a “westpaw”.
Al Yellon - July 28, 2008
That's actually the "preferred" orientation, sometimes it just won't fit
BigJohnAZ - July 28, 2008
TWSS
GoCubbies34 - July 28, 2008
Sadly, no one has said that to me in my life :(
BigJohnAZ - July 28, 2008
not suprising the cell was built backwards
Reed's Johnson - July 28, 2008
alrighty then...
Good start, let’s keep it going… Turn over the line-up this inning.
Jimmyeatworld - July 28, 2008
Damn, that blond announcer is a looker
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
Even if she works for the Brewers???

DeRoMyHero - July 28, 2008
Time to start The Riot
GateCity, VA Cubs Fan - July 28, 2008
OT - any idea if the regular lots
will be open tomorrow night?
lostinthevines - July 28, 2008
Why wouldn't they be?
Al Yellon - July 28, 2008
Good at bat, made him throw a bunch of pitches.
cowsarecool220 - July 28, 2008
Look at CC...
his arms are hanging, he’s wiping his brow b/t every pitch… He’s obviously tired…
Jimmyeatworld - July 28, 2008
26 pitches already for him
MinnesotaFan - July 28, 2008
or out of shape… I know is the reigning CY Young winner, but get in shape..
you make millions, hire a trainer, a chef & someone to follow you around to pull the food out of your hand
Reed's Johnson - July 28, 2008
Doubtful
Sabathia is a horse. There’s no way the guy is tired from just one inning.
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
Look at him...
He’s had three complete games in a row…
Jimmyeatworld - July 28, 2008
That's even furthering my statement that he can take a load of a work.
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
tonight will tell the tale
Emelie - July 28, 2008
Very true
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
did he swing at ball 4?

Emelie - July 28, 2008
Terrible beer though
Galvan316 - July 28, 2008
ya know,
old style is brewed in milwaukee…idk how i feel about that
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
I'd like Miller Park too
if it wasn’t in Milwaukee, wasn’t home of the Brewers, and wasn’t Miller Park.
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
I really like their food.
I like that they give you “menus”. You order, and they give you your food. You don’t even have to get up!
cubswgnrocks - July 28, 2008
yep
Emelie - July 28, 2008
CC had to go to his REAL out pitch

CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008

Uncle Ted
drewishdrewid - July 28, 2008
yeah that was nice, he swung incredibly easy and fouled off several,
Ted running up the other guys pitch count- what a player!
Now let’s see him with some more Ks here.
Canseco's Roid Party - July 28, 2008

Reed's Johnson - July 28, 2008
Can I just say that it is REALLY good to see Kendall NOT in the Cubs uni?
That little hanging arm thing to start his at-bat. And then he hits a full-power fly ball out. He is terrible.
Canseco's Roid Party - July 28, 2008
9 pitch inning
Not bad Teddy!!
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
ummm....8?
RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008

RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008
Nice inning by Lilly
Galvan316 - July 28, 2008
34 pitches at the end of 2 for Ted
MinnesotaFan - July 28, 2008
that did a lot to calm my nerves after a 25-pitch first
RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008
Is anyone from this board at the game?
RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008
If the game's in Kansas, and in my apartment, then yes. I'm at the game.
dtpollitt - July 28, 2008
BULLDOG!!!! Looks good so far!!!!
razzpunk - July 28, 2008
soriano does a sideways/backwards hop
he’s gonna give me a heart attack
transplanted to NY - July 28, 2008
Why?
Dude, his injury earlier this year was a timebomb of an injury. He was bumming off that leg for a couple of weeks before he went on the DL
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
it's just a habit that I've never liked
you’re right about the earlier injury. I’m glad that his finger injury gave his legs a lot of time to heal
transplanted to NY - July 28, 2008
Yeah, so did I.
Him being on the injury was actually a positive in that way.
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
Wow, Lilly threw 8 pitches in that inning
Noice.
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
that's how you go deep into games
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
what's Sabathia at
for pitches?
drewishdrewid - July 28, 2008

CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008

NittanyCub - July 28, 2008

CubsBall2202 - July 28, 2008

BarryZuckerCub - July 28, 2008

RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008

Itchy - July 28, 2008

MinnesotaFan - July 28, 2008

CubsBall2202 - July 28, 2008
SORI GETS REVENGE FOR CC MAKING HIM LOOK STUPID IN THE FIRST!!
GoCubbies34 - July 28, 2008

2 bad ab's by RJ
Reed's Johnson - July 28, 2008
Now
we these other guys to take a few pitches. Those next two guys were gone too quick.
Matt Allison - July 28, 2008
Nice throw from Hardy
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
I think one of Sori's pattened hot streaks has begun....
JB 23 - July 28, 2008
don't get penis-y
RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008
Sabathia had 35 pitches through 2, not 25.
Obviously, it’s more now.
Cub fans are REALLY loud there!
Al Yellon - July 28, 2008
44 pitches now
dtpollitt - July 28, 2008
now Jacob is gonna get you for saying that!
LT - July 28, 2008
Nice to hear them
sue369 - July 28, 2008
Aramis went WAY out of the zone on that one
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
we gotta stay on CC and not let him settle down
RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008
CC
so wanna see his first loss with the Brewers to the Cubs.
Rudy1950 - July 28, 2008
come on Aramis!!
Galvan316 - July 28, 2008
Got a break there.
Matt Allison - July 28, 2008
no doubt
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
the milwaukee announcer
just messed up and said ramirez can hit the bacon….
preachermancubsfan - July 28, 2008
Ueker said that?
cowsarecool220 - July 28, 2008
not sure who...
he meant to say, breaking, but said bacon…
preachermancubsfan - July 28, 2008
Anyone else watching on
Extra innings with the brewers feed? Had to lower the sound. Couldn’t deal with the brewers announcers
PhillyCub - July 28, 2008
i empathize
Reddevil - July 28, 2008
im listening still....
dont know why
preachermancubsfan - July 28, 2008

cowsarecool220 - July 28, 2008
OMIGAWD LETS BOO THE CALL EVEN THOUGH
WE’RE IN THE OUTFIELD!
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
any reason
Theriot isnt batting second? I thought he was doing well there
bheidge - July 28, 2008
RJ has a good history against CC
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
Too bad he's
only seen like 3 pitches.
Matt Allison - July 28, 2008
lou is a evil mad genious
Reed's Johnson - July 28, 2008
yes he is
Emelie - July 28, 2008
Thank you Lord, it is GREAT to have A-Fon back!!
dtpollitt - July 28, 2008
We're STILL on pace for a 9-0 game!
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
yeah 2 runs in two innings
great great start against CC
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
??
We have 2 runs in 3 innings…
GoCubbies34 - July 28, 2008
You might of guessed it right.
But I wouldn’t mind if they got more than one run in some of the innings, really I wouldn’t.
Jimmyeatworld - July 28, 2008
It wasn't me
I wish I remembered who it was so I could give them due credit
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
Alright Teddy.
Hold ‘em down again.
Jimmyeatworld - July 28, 2008
Brenly's
high. There’s always a good reason to run up a pitcher’s PC. It’s called the bullpen. No wonder he isn’t managing anymore.
Matt Allison - July 28, 2008
especially the brewers' bullpen
RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008
Lets get some more guys on base and run on Kendall all day...
tapdeer - July 28, 2008
music to my ears
RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008
I think Kendall's having a good year throwing guys out, actually...
dtpollitt - July 28, 2008
Any way we can get the 2nd thread up?
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
New one's up in less than 20 min
dtpollitt - July 28, 2008
That's what you said.
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
And this is what you said
dtpollitt - July 28, 2008
said dtpollitt
NittanyCub - July 28, 2008
This could go on forever
dtpollitt - July 28, 2008
twiwss
tootle - July 28, 2008
i wanna say something
preachermancubsfan - July 28, 2008
Already?
OK, gimme a sec.
Al Yellon - July 28, 2008
We just figured out
our seats in Sept. are behind the Brewers dugout. I hope I can get some good pictures then in the Cubs dugout.
sue369 - July 28, 2008
Wow
Reading briefly over at a certain opposing-teams-SBNation-blog-site, I read this comment:
“2 run deficit against Lilly and ‘pen? Not really worried.”
That is funny coming from the Brewers claptrap of a bullpen.
I hope CC gets shelled…
Cribbs463 - July 28, 2008
Al
Quick question for you is there anyway, to stop the predictive text in the subject line?
Galvan316 - July 28, 2008
What predictive text?
Have been trying to be more generic. Got any suggestions?
I’m off to post the first overflow.
Al Yellon - July 28, 2008
Pretty sure that's a browser thing, not a website thing
jbau - July 28, 2008
Jeebus
Matt Allison - July 28, 2008
not a good start to the inning
CubsBall2202 - July 28, 2008
C'mon weeks
Double Play allright?
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
deal
from: rickie weeks
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
still waiting for him to uphold his end of the bargain
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
ALMOST!!!!!
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
agh!
if he were slower it would have worked
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
More scouting on CC after 4 games + more pressure on CC in this game + fonzie's back = ????
tapdeer - July 28, 2008
I made an overflow
until the first one posts…
Overflow until 8:15
RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008
I think Al is
going to post the 8:15 one now
sue369 - July 28, 2008
nm, didn't see Al's in the house
RightFieldSucks - July 28, 2008
If we can get Aram on track and Fontenot back in the lineup, then I think a win streak can start again.
tapdeer - July 28, 2008
And Lee on track as well
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
true
both lee and aram are starting to hit a bit, especially Dlee – aram is fluttering around .271, that HAS to be better
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
Fontenot is a
bench player. Nothing more
bheidge - July 28, 2008
Pretty darn good one though
CubsBall2202 - July 28, 2008
absolutely
bheidge - July 28, 2008
Would be a nice platoon with Theriot at 2nd.
Just my opinion.
Bump Bailey - July 28, 2008
winning tonight would make this a winning streak
cowsarecool220 - July 28, 2008
WTF?
Matt Allison - July 28, 2008
Tough throw by Lee
Tailed away from Cedeno
cubsonWGN4ever - July 28, 2008
arent fontenot & pedroia similiar players?
Reed's Johnson - July 28, 2008
pedroia is hitting over .400 the last two months
NO, they aren’t
CubbyBlues - July 28, 2008
Batting average is way overrated.
I’d compare there OPS and I bet they are close.
Bump Bailey - July 28, 2008
i would say
No
bheidge - July 28, 2008
Bad D
all around there. ugh.
Matt Allison - July 28, 2008
shoulda had em
bizzle4 - July 28, 2008
Ronny's getting fired up!
cowsarecool220 - July 28, 2008
Ronny Cedeno?
Or Santo? Sorry, not watching the game.
Unique - July 28, 2008
Overflow is up
Go for it.
Al Yellon - July 28, 2008
That's at least the 3rd time this year that Lee
hasn’t been able to make a good throw or no one was at 2nd. Need some work on that!
