for those watching the Brewer’s broadcast (I couldn’t watch the WGN broadcast because they had some awful ringing/siren noise in the background the whole time that was driving me up the wall)... When Braun caught Dome’s sinking liner (top of the 2nd, I believe) – the announcer went on about how Braun has improved himself in left field, and really made himself decent there. “He’s among the league leaders with seven outfield assists!”
When that triple skipped by… silence. Cricket noises. Nothing. :)
Said all the Brewers fans left after it was 7-0, and after we got the win almost the entire place was singing “Go Cubs Go”. That is a true rivalry - old as the NFL. Cubs-Brewers isn’t there yet - and there seems to be a lot of one-sided maliciousness.
It’s too bad, because it could be as good - or better - than Cubs-Cardinals. But until the fans learn to play nice (which may not happen), it won’t be.
I would guess that if the Braves never left there would be a lot less Cub fans in WI
I think after they left, many fans needed a team to root for and there were the Cubbies, on Tv and relatively close to home. I wonder if this could be the case with Shanghai Badger?
Before the Braves left Boston. My mom was a Braves fan when they married. She became a Cubs fan afterwards.
The Cubs had a strong following here post-Brewers arrival because of WGN. Also, there are a lot that became Cubs fans because of the Braves leaving, as you suggested.
My point would be that the Braves fans would have passed their fandom onto their kids
I grew up in Chicago but my parents were from WI. THerefore, my dad past on his Brewer fandom on to me. This is probably why I don’t mind talking to you guys.
Now I see. Thanks for the info. I seriously just wanted to talk shop since everyone over here left for the night! Didn’t try to antagonize anyone at all.
But it does seem that’s where a lot of the venom comes from.
I will admit, I can see the resentment of some “know-it-all” Cubs fans—but that’s not the majority of the fan base. Just a vocal, obnoxious minority of the fan base.
Sure -- I have a lot of friends who are Brewers fans
I work in Milwaukee and can talk baseball with a lot of people.
I think it is a minority, but the obnoxiousness is there. I’ve seen it, and it’s embarrassing. Just like some of the behavior at Camp Randall is embarrassing to me.
The venue is great, but over-rated beyond the general grandstands. The student section isn’t full until the 2nd quarter, they do the wave when UW has the ball, and the ES-FU chant is beyond juvenille.
However, listen to every word battlekow or dixieflatline have to say because those two are great baseball minds and they really should be heavily involved within someone’s organization.
I keep meaning to go to one of the Flyer’s games one of these days. I hear the park is beautiful, and I know the games are fun, cause I used to go to a lot of Cougar’s games.
Good win for your team tonight. Thanks for staying up and chatting with me.
Like I said earlier, Im in a good mood, its only July. However, if it were the last series of the year and it meant something, I would currently be installing a virus within your site. Just kidding
in the late-70s, early 80s. I got the same “Cubs suck” stuff from Brewer “fans” that you got. Physically assaulted too, although those kids were probably just looking for an excuse.
I bet a Brewer fan 2 dollars at 10-1 odds that the Cubs would win the NL East in 1984. Bastard never paid up, of course.
Oh, and while I don’t market this information, neither do I hide it. I’m a Packer fan, and I don’t hate Bears fans. I actually cheered for the Bears in 1986 to win the Super Bowl because I hated the Patriots even back then and because I respected Walter Payton so much. Hated him when he played the Packers, but respected him greatly.
I actually dislike the Vikings more than the Bears. Sorry to all Bears fans.
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I just got in
After the postgame interview of ARam, as they went to break, WGN replayed his double to left. Did anyone else see Fielder take a swipe at ARam’s ummm… cajones? He hit him on the upper thigh as he went by him. Someone wrote off Fielder’s constant tagging on pickoff throws as “playful”, but this is just wrong. Even if he and ARam are buds, the umps can’t allow that garbage.
No complaints about beaches as a result of that in Racine, Kenosha or Lake County. Just Dicky Daley . . . the sewage magically hit Chicago and avoided everything else in between.
And I don’t think failing to catch it is an implication of my feelings.
You talk about the Cubs’ fans obsessions, yet you come here often seemingly with a chip of your own on your shoulder. Why? Your team is in first place – enjoy it. If Cubs fans say crap, who cares? Your team is in first place!
You seem to be knowledgeable about baseball and have made good points on the board that I’ve seen over the months. But quite frankly, I don’t appreciate the tone of a lot of your posts - and this isn’t the first time you’ve directed one at me. I don’t know what your problem with me is, but I’ve got nothing against you - except that occasional attitude.
You’re not helping your own case here by wanting an apology from everyone here for every dumb comment made about the Sox. Just because we don’t jump down a guy’s throat for saying something stupid that’s also Sox-related doesn’t mean we’re all giving the guy e-high-fives or whatever.
Does this help? I’M SORRY that a bunch of troglodyte Cub fans jumped that one guy and kicked his eye out. I’M SORRY a couple of BCB people were happy the Sox lost tonight. I’M SORRY a few BCB people like using dumb stereotypes to characterize Sox fans. I’M SORRY you think Cubdom is a monolithically hypocritical collective because of these things. Can we stop keeping running tallies of stupid and get back to supporting our teams, please?
only about the Cubs and their fans. His favorite tactic is the strawman: to find one Cub fan saying something, twisting it, and then saying that it’s representative of all Cub fans.
Great Game Cubbies!!
Let’s beat their #3 tomorrow

Brewer fans actually have friends that are live and in person to watch a game with
We don’t need to converse with people on the internet to enjoy a game.

But c’mon . . . don’t get bitter. It’s only July.

Not bitter, Im actually in a pretty good mood because it is only July
I actually didn’t think that post was that bitter. I was just commenting to a ridiculous statement.
brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
fair enough
you seem like a reasonable Brewers fan—I enjoy talking baseball with that kind.
I just wish the fan base would take that chip off it’s collective shoulder. It makes these games less fun for me; especially being from WI.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
I think we have a collective chip because Cub/Chicago fans feel they are superior fans
I live in southeastern WI and grew up in Illinois, so I have a lot of practice defending myself from these type fans. However, I am always more than willing to chat with good baseball fans, which many on this site are.

brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
I've had the same experience at Ryan Field
The simple answer, of course, is buy tickets for your home games . . . it’s not our fault that the Brewers didn’t sell out games often before last year. Just like it’s not our (Badgers fans) fault that NU doesn’t sell out.
I wear Packer gear at Soldier Field and never experience the same hostility there that I do at Miller Park with Cubs gear on.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
I agree with you about the tickets, Im just telling where the dislike comes from
brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
Sure, but did you see the point about GB-Bears?
That is a true rivalry - old as the NFL. Cubs-Brewers isn’t there yet - and there seems to be a lot of one-sided maliciousness.
It’s too bad, because it could be as good - or better - than Cubs-Cardinals. But until the fans learn to play nice (which may not happen), it won’t be.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Missed a point I meant to add
Packers-Bears, Cubs-Cards may dislike each other, but most fans respect the other team and the rivalry.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
I don't remember or didn't care really...
but how was the rivalry between the Sox and Brewers?
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
It was alright
Brewers also had the twins so it evened out.
brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
I think a lot of it is just the times we live in.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I doubt Milwaukee Braves fans and Cubs fans had this much hate. Cubs and Sox fans have always had a thing going on though.
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
I would guess that if the Braves never left there would be a lot less Cub fans in WI
I think after they left, many fans needed a team to root for and there were the Cubbies, on Tv and relatively close to home. I wonder if this could be the case with Shanghai Badger?

The Cubs had a strong following here post-Brewers arrival because of WGN. Also, there are a lot that became Cubs fans because of the Braves leaving, as you suggested.

Maybe so..
Although I would think the Braves fans would be much older. But being on WGN has certainly made the Cubs popular all over.
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
My point would be that the Braves fans would have passed their fandom onto their kids
I grew up in Chicago but my parents were from WI. THerefore, my dad past on his Brewer fandom on to me. This is probably why I don’t mind talking to you guys.

Packer and Bear fans hate each other.
I think fans from both team need to learn how to play nice, but sometimes a heated rivalry is more intense.

Let me ask you a question
What’s with ending all of your posts with “Dan”
Is it like you’re writing a letter. I mean this in the nicest possible manner.
brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
LOL
Never thought of it? Guess I’ve always done it…
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
It's not just Brewers fans, that's true
But it does seem that’s where a lot of the venom comes from.
I will admit, I can see the resentment of some “know-it-all” Cubs fans—but that’s not the majority of the fan base. Just a vocal, obnoxious minority of the fan base.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
A lot of my good friends are cub fans, come to think of it, almost everyone I work with is.
i don’t hate them at all, but I think it could the obnoxious minority that you and Marty Brennaman speak of
brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
Sure -- I have a lot of friends who are Brewers fans
I work in Milwaukee and can talk baseball with a lot of people.
I think it is a minority, but the obnoxiousness is there. I’ve seen it, and it’s embarrassing. Just like some of the behavior at Camp Randall is embarrassing to me.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Camp Randall CAN get out of hand...
...but for the vast majority, it’s one of the best venues for college football I’ve been to. But I’m a tad biased…being a Badger n all…
Dan
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
As am I (obviously)
The venue is great, but over-rated beyond the general grandstands. The student section isn’t full until the 2nd quarter, they do the wave when UW has the ball, and the ES-FU chant is beyond juvenille.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
When did you graduate from UW?
I graduated in 2004
brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
young pup!
I graduated in 1995
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
where in SE WI do you live?
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Kenosha
brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
No kiddin'
As I mentioned, that’s where I grew up. I live in Racine at the moment.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
2005 alum here
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
Hey brew
Is battlekow your site admin over there?
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
no, Jeff Sackmann is
However, listen to every word battlekow or dixieflatline have to say because those two are great baseball minds and they really should be heavily involved within someone’s organization.
brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
Hmm. Okay thanks for the advice will do.
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
They do know their baseball..
We have a few here like cywers, just to name one, who should work for a big league team.
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
More importantly...
Is Kirbir hot?...j/k..
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
I don't know...is Sue ;)
brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
I don't know either...lol..
There’s only one here who I know is hot for sure, but she hasn’t been on much lately. And she works in minor league baseball btw.
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
ah, yes....
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
The other KOW...:)
I keep meaning to go to one of the Flyer’s games one of these days. I hear the park is beautiful, and I know the games are fun, cause I used to go to a lot of Cougar’s games.
Bump Bailey - July 30, 2008
Alright boys...Im hittin the hay
Good win for your team tonight. Thanks for staying up and chatting with me.
Like I said earlier, Im in a good mood, its only July. However, if it were the last series of the year and it meant something, I would currently be installing a virus within your site. Just kidding
brewfan2 - July 29, 2008
See ya buddy
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
nice chatting -- good night
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Later man..
enjoyed the chat!
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
I grew up in Madison
in the late-70s, early 80s.
Josh Timmers - July 30, 2008
Cool. Sorry I wasn't still online when you posted
would have chatted
Shanghai Badger - July 30, 2008
White Sox lose...a perfect night!
...soon they will be in second and have Detroit nipping at ‘em
LAcarl519 - July 29, 2008
How would a Sox lose be a perfect night for a fan ...
... of the Cubbies? All I’ve ever hear from Cubbie fans is how Cubbie fans don’t care nor pay attention to the Sox?
Honestly, just stop saying it Cubbie fans. With maybe a rare exception it’s simply an urban myth.
DrCrawdad - July 29, 2008
i could care less what the sox do...
as do most of the people on this site…some exceptions though…
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
Agreed. The only Chicago baseball team I care about is the Cubs
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Many, many exceptions
And proof would be tonight. Cubbies win, in 1st place yet the Sox-obsession continues.
DrCrawdad - July 29, 2008
I've only seen one post cheering the Sox loss tonight.
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
You haven't looked very close
n/t
DrCrawdad - July 29, 2008
I was cheering for the Twins
but I am from Minnesota
bheidge - July 30, 2008
Where in MN?
I’m from Mankato, got fam in the Cities, Duluth, Faribault…
dtpollitt - July 30, 2008
Yeah...the Sox lost!
santoswoodenlegs - July 29, 2008
Huh?
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
crawford is just trying
to find something to bash us about…
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
Hurts to have hypocrisy exposed.
n/t
DrCrawdad - July 29, 2008
what did i do?
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
it's a twisty-turny
flip-flop woild…
drewishdrewid - July 30, 2008
Huh?
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
Then why are you always over here
if you don’t care about just seeing the Cubs lose?
You post over a thousand more times here than on the White Sox board. What does that say about you?
Josh Timmers - July 30, 2008
oh, the coppery.
drewishdrewid - July 30, 2008
Night all...time to walk the pooches....
NotSure - July 29, 2008
night...enjoy the walk
LAcarl519 - July 29, 2008
have a great time!
:-)
halfblindcubbiegirl - July 29, 2008
speaking of pooches..
bob barker is on WGN..
Chanman25 - July 29, 2008

slcathena - July 29, 2008
Night everyone!
:-)
Course if I can’t sleep I’ll prolly be back.
halfblindcubbiegirl - July 29, 2008
night!
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Last!
Chanman25 - July 29, 2008
buh bye!
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
sleep well...
LAcarl519 - July 29, 2008
night cubbiegirl!
I’ll prolly still be here if you come back..
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
Night
Itchy - July 29, 2008
Night!
Sleep well!!! :)
slcathena - July 29, 2008
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I just got in
After the postgame interview of ARam, as they went to break, WGN replayed his double to left. Did anyone else see Fielder take a swipe at ARam’s ummm… cajones? He hit him on the upper thigh as he went by him. Someone wrote off Fielder’s constant tagging on pickoff throws as “playful”, but this is just wrong. Even if he and ARam are buds, the umps can’t allow that garbage.
Goat Whisperer - July 29, 2008
It was mentioned in the game thread...
Fielder just like to play around…I don’t think A-Ram minded…
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
Thanks
I figured one of the multitude would have mentioned it.
Big night. My daughter just got engaged.
Goat Whisperer - July 29, 2008
Congrats!
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Congrats!
Now all you have to do is win the lottery so you can pay for the wedding…j/k, j/k…
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
Happy paying for the wedding!
santoswoodenlegs - July 29, 2008
Comments overheard at the "other" BCB:
—That’s it, I’m officially cheering for the wildcard.
—Someone posted a picture of a real-life dead cub, so SWL posted a picture of Bernie Brewer sliding into a cheese grader. Excellente!
Dan
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
u gotta put a link
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
NEED A LINK!!!
slcathena - July 29, 2008
here
drewishdrewid - July 29, 2008
Thank you! :)
slcathena - July 29, 2008
Nice
I wish I could like the Brewers. I really do. But crap like that makes me hope they never make the postseason.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
ever!
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
Exactly
I feel the same way. Their inferiority complex is maddening
ZuletaFan - July 29, 2008
this is how they are.
don’t see them changing any time soon. The Brewers fans and the White-Sox fans should get together and go bowling.
drewishdrewid - July 29, 2008
Except
That would probably result in a knife fight. Or Milwaukee dumping more sewage into Lake Michigan
ZuletaFan - July 29, 2008
Interesting thing about that
No complaints about beaches as a result of that in Racine, Kenosha or Lake County. Just Dicky Daley . . . the sewage magically hit Chicago and avoided everything else in between.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Or a thugish gang of festively attired Cubbie fans...
... attacking and knocking someone’s eyeball out of it’s socket.
DrCrawdad - July 29, 2008
a brewers fan
never has gotten in a fight with another teams fan?? cmon
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
it was wrong...im not promoting it...
but saying cubs fans are like that is stupid…that cubs fan(s) are liek “that
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
Yeah, that was just ugly
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Ugly acts...
... are not the sole possession of any group of fans. To imply that it’s unique to the Sox is moronic.
DrCrawdad - July 29, 2008
I never did
So please don’t imply that I did—even if you didn’t mean to.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Maybe not this time, but...
... “Zuletafan” did and you didn’t seem to mind.
DrCrawdad - July 29, 2008
I don't think that I need to police every comment
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
santoswoodenlegs - July 29, 2008
Pinch, yes.
Take your eyeball out, no.
DrCrawdad - July 29, 2008
let that go...
seriously
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
Crawdad...
SplintChesthair - July 30, 2008
yes, we know.
in fact,a Cubs fan posted it here days ago, condemning it.
that’s an awful high horse you got there. Sure you can handle it?
drewishdrewid - July 30, 2008
+1
They’re both just totally jealous because the Cubs have so many fans.
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
That's a HUGE part of it
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
I went over there to argue some guy's point about Chicago
and his response to my argument was I am a troll. nice..
Chanman25 - July 29, 2008
That's why I don't bother with them
They actually hate being ignored more.
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
meh well am out won't go for 1100 posts
cya tomorrow
Chanman25 - July 29, 2008
see ya bud
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
later chanman..
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
Boring
After Sunday’s thriller come from behind win and yesterday’s EXCITING game – tonite was a little boring.
I love boring wins!
Cub Fan Mike - July 29, 2008
nice to have
a laugher every once in a while. Or, you know… twice in a while…
drewishdrewid - July 29, 2008
Would be hard to beat last night's game...
That was just orgasmic!
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
You fell asleep right after we won?
santoswoodenlegs - July 29, 2008
ha ha ha
cubsnlinux - July 29, 2008
Had a cigarette first...
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
DID YOU SAY...
...Pottergasm?
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
STOP IT!
santoswoodenlegs - July 29, 2008
Me too.
No heart attacks tonight. :)
slcathena - July 29, 2008
No this one was great
Didn’t even put gameday on, just read the posts and enjoyed a stress free belting of the Brew…excellent
Aussie Cub - July 29, 2008
Yeah -- let's have another tomorrow!
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Right.
to bed with me, sirs and madams, to BED with me!
Let’s go for #3 tomorrow!
drewishdrewid - July 29, 2008
I hope this is a statement....
and not a command.
santoswoodenlegs - July 29, 2008
SWL: you gave me a great laugh as I read the Brewer website
...thanks for the giggles.
LAcarl519 - July 29, 2008
um no thanks
Chanman25 - July 29, 2008
GO CUBS GOOOOOOO GO CUBS GOOOOO HEY CHICAGO WHAT DO YA SAY
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
ok now I am OFFICIALLY out
later..
Chanman25 - July 29, 2008
goodnight and good job on the Brewer website...hostile crowd there!
LAcarl519 - July 29, 2008
“The Cubs will stick 7 past Sheets today”
Aussie Cub - July 29, 2008
This is premature
But I love the pecking order that is being established.
Brewers sweep the Cards
Cubs (I dare not say) the Brewers
it all seems so right
El Borto - July 29, 2008
Clutch performance
from both Lilly and Z!
If this performance does not put Carlos Zambrano among the favorites for the Cy Young this year, then something is wrong.
Mr W - July 29, 2008
I know there's some BCBers still up over at the "other" BCB...
...and I think we’ve added to their grand total of posts tonight by about 22%.
Dan
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
the opening thread comments for brew crew ball...
Going for the Cubs: Zambrano.
Going for the Brewers: Sheets.
Looks about even to me. Lucky for us, grit is on our side.
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
thought it was funny
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
It was about an even matchup, though
Just glad it turned out the way it did
Shanghai Badger - July 29, 2008
Even funnier
was the comment, made after Braun made the catch on Fukudome in the first inning, the Braun should get a gold glove “for real” they said.
Josh Timmers - July 30, 2008
Who won the Peoria game at Wrigley?
Itchy - July 29, 2008
Suspended in the ninth inning because of rain
tied at 6. I guess they’ll finish it tomorrow at Peoria.
markleonette - July 29, 2008
Thx!
Itchy - July 29, 2008
another no-no going
doug davis is perfect through six
nathew - July 29, 2008
but it's not a "real" no-no...
he’s throwing it against San Diego.
santoswoodenlegs - July 29, 2008
SWL
i see people refer to you as “swl”...u know youve made it when you have your own abbreviation
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
good point, PMCF
nathew - July 29, 2008
oh wow!!
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
Try to ignore NTW...he gets carried away.
santoswoodenlegs - July 29, 2008
you HAVE
to keep that avatar!!!
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
Actually, SWL stands for
Satan’s
Wild-eyed
Lunatic
dtpollitt - July 29, 2008
damn!
base hit, there it goes.
nathew - July 29, 2008
Too bad
At least it was a sharp single
Curtain Jerker - July 29, 2008
seems like
every time i actually tune in to see one, it gets broken up.
(i should probably stop watching the cubs)
nathew - July 29, 2008
lol...
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
crawdad...are you a brew fan? or a sox fan??
preachermancubsfan - July 29, 2008
Diehard Sox fan he is...
Bump Bailey - July 29, 2008
Except he never actually talks about the Sox
only about the Cubs and their fans. His favorite tactic is the strawman: to find one Cub fan saying something, twisting it, and then saying that it’s representative of all Cub fans.
He’s not a Sox fan. He’s a professional troll.
I think he’s Bill O’Reilly.
Josh Timmers - July 30, 2008
he doesn't talk about
loofahs enough.
drewishdrewid - July 30, 2008
quit feeding the troll.
nathew - July 29, 2008
me so happy...
me want to cry!
nervousCUBlover - July 29, 2008
We are over a THOUSAND posts short of last night...
...WOW.
dtpollitt - July 30, 2008
Not as much fretting tonight
no need for the max strength pepto!
love the ivy - July 30, 2008
fewer trolls too
slcathena - July 30, 2008
way fewer.
I never had to use my sue quote.
drewishdrewid - July 30, 2008
I have a feeling if
Dempster has a shaky performance tonight youomay get your chance to use it.
sue369 - July 30, 2008
Well, last night was special...
being the first game in an important series. And it was so thrilling, we all needed each other’s support I guess.
Bump Bailey - July 30, 2008
Good story by Gene @ ESPN about...
...how the teams and us fans have morphed this rivalry into something more, something a bit more special.
Here.
