But the Brewers have a dangerous offense and it took a great performance to show the rest of the rotation how it’s done. IMO. It’s one of those intangibles.
He’s probably been in no-man’s land lately mentally not knowing if he would be traded, or wondering why he was being doubted by Lou. I think he’ll be better the next time around.
I like you. You seem like a good person too. I trust you still have some gas left in you. It’s too bad it had to end this way. We’ll see you soon along the Good Lord’s vine. Say hi to Richie Hill when you see him.
Had a feeling this one would be like the 03 5-game series against the Cardinals that propelled us past them and onto the playoffs. This has the same feeling. This series is huge hit to the Brewers. We came into their house and showed them how its done.
Get a load of this crap that Ron Turner said about Favre
When asked if he would want Brett Favre on the Bears offense, he stated:
‘‘Not right now,’’ offensive coordinator Ron Turner said today when asked if he could envision the future first-ballot Hall of Famer in a Bears’ uniform this season. ‘‘Not with what we have. I like our quarterbacks. That’s not to say he’s not a great player, he’s one of the greatest players of all time. I love him. I love watching him. He’s a great player.
‘‘Not at this time and in this situation. We’ve got two good quarterbacks.’’
Um…So either he is joking and not wanting to release any information or he is completely CRAZY. He’d honestly pick Grossman and Orton over Favre? It amazes me that this guy still has a job.
I’m with tons of friends from other schools leading a lab, and one of our admin people is from Milwaukee. He talked SO much trash before this series. ;)
...everything is clicking, and more importantly, everyone is having a good time, which translates into results in all phases of the game. Perfect timing to come back home and do work against the Pirates and ‘Stros. Wrigley should be a fun place to be the next 6 days.
Raise your hand if you predicted a sweep. I sure didn’t. I thought 2 out of 4 would be nice, considering the Cubs’ road problems this year and the fact that they had to face Sheets and Sabathia. When they won the third game yesterday, I thought they might relax a bit today and let a bad pitcher keep them down. Didn’t happen. The team made a real statement this week after several weeks of mediocre playing, and I think this can carry through August and September.
Gagne was pitching to Jim Edmonds who had hit two homeruns earlier
Threw 4 straight inside balls and the 4th was BEHIND edmonds. The ump immediately ejected Gagne with no hesitation whatsoever. Yost came out to stupidly argue but the ump wasn’t buying it.
Next inning Eyre was pitching to Prince Fielder and he didn’t like a questionable strike. He then popped up, slammed the bat to the ground. As he was walking back to the dugout, he started screaming HORSESHT! HORSESHT! to the ump. Bye bye Prince.
I watched Harden a lot out here in the SF Bay Area and I was VERY happy that Billy Beane traded him to us. Bad for the A’s, though. When Harden is on and not hurt he is as good as any pitcher in the league.
However, a close second today has to be Jim Edmonds performance today. I never thought I would root for Edmonds. I wonder what the Padres are saying these days about Edmonds.
Cardinals finish ahead of them in the division. I know on paper the Brewers are better, but I just can’t shake this feeling I have about St. Louis. They won’t go away…
and I’m sorta rooting for that. Sure I wouldn’t mind seeing their brains get kicked in either, but I’d also really like us to get a chance to experience what New York and Boston has… way too many times.
if i did the math right, the starters combined for 5 ER in 28 innings, for a 1.61 ERA for the serious-against the brewers in a high pressure series-bodes well for the postseason

You know what?
I give Ted Lilly a LOT of credit for this entire series. He came in and SET THE TONE.
cubsonWGN4ever - July 31, 2008
I give the offense credit...
they tore threw the Brewers’ two best pitchers (and two of the better pitchers in the league). At least six runs in every game.

But the Brewers have a dangerous offense and it took a great performance to show the rest of the rotation how it’s done. IMO. It’s one of those intangibles.

SCOTT EYRE IS A PIECE OF GARBAGE
And I don’t want to hear about “rust”. He w3asn’t being used because he can’t be trusted. And now we see that for ourselves.
That said,
GET OUT THE BROOMS!!!!!!!
lostinthevines - July 31, 2008
very
impressive
brian custer - July 31, 2008
This is a remarkable day...
This might be a series that 10, 20 years from now people could say that it changed the 2008 pennant race. A great moment in Cubs history.
Ross - July 31, 2008
I remember saying this before the series started
Had a feeling this one would be like the 03 5-game series against the Cardinals that propelled us past them and onto the playoffs. This has the same feeling. This series is huge hit to the Brewers. We came into their house and showed them how its done.
gwood - July 31, 2008
The turning point was the last game of the Marlins series,
The first win of this 5 game winning streak.
Jimmyeatworld - July 31, 2008
Ronnie agrees
santo4hof - July 31, 2008
HOW SWEEP IT IS!!!!!!
Galvan316 - July 31, 2008

MinnesotaFan - July 31, 2008

PurpleLineToWrigley - July 31, 2008
Time to try and salvage the day and get some work done . . .
until tomorrow everyone, have a good evening!!
gwood - July 31, 2008
bye
sue369 - July 31, 2008
Get a load of this crap that Ron Turner said about Favre
When asked if he would want Brett Favre on the Bears offense, he stated:
Um…So either he is joking and not wanting to release any information or he is completely CRAZY. He’d honestly pick Grossman and Orton over Favre? It amazes me that this guy still has a job.
Chanman25 - July 31, 2008
Imagine what we had to deal with at Illinois for years....
...and yes, I agree, it’s amazing he has any job in football…complete tool.
NotSure - July 31, 2008
I think this is coach speak.
he can’t come out and say “yea, we’d love to have Farvre”
digitalbenjamin - July 31, 2008
Turner is biggest moron in football!!!
What a fraud and a-hole!
Itchy - July 31, 2008
He CAN'T say anything...
.... it’s tampering otherwise.
BeerCub - July 31, 2008
If the Bears get Favre,
I would quit being a Bears fan. And i’ve been a Bears fan before I was a Cubs fan.
NittanyCub - July 31, 2008
So great.
Sorry I missed the thread, this rocks.
slcathena - July 31, 2008
we missed you and
it was a fantastic game and series
sue369 - July 31, 2008
Yeah, debate camp is brutal on my time. :P
I listen to the game while my kids work though. ;)
slcathena - July 31, 2008
Berkeley? Stanford?
jbau - July 31, 2008
Stanford
slcathena - July 31, 2008
Hey! That's where I am.
cool.
jbau - July 31, 2008
lol, seriously?
surely not for the camp?
slcathena - July 31, 2008
no. no. grad student in EE.
jbau - July 31, 2008
ah, sweet.
Yeah, I’m here for the next couple of weeks
slcathena - July 31, 2008
Cool. Hope you're having fun here.
The Cubs success is seriously dragging down my research productivity.
jbau - July 31, 2008
lol. It's a blast.
I’m with tons of friends from other schools leading a lab, and one of our admin people is from Milwaukee. He talked SO much trash before this series. ;)
slcathena - July 31, 2008
Hehe. So much for that
Haven’t met too many Cubs fans around here. Just another fellow parent at my kid’s daycare.
jbau - July 31, 2008
had a lot of technical problems it was frustrating trying to post but...
What a game!
Emelie - July 31, 2008
so now we face the Pirates
with no Jason Bay.
I am very happy. I bet Zambrano is too.
LAcarl519 - July 31, 2008
Pirates will SUCK the rest of this season
but two or trhee years down the road, they might get pretty good..
Chanman25 - July 31, 2008
I can't believe they let Bay go.
Wow.
slcathena - July 31, 2008
The team just looks loose right now...
...everything is clicking, and more importantly, everyone is having a good time, which translates into results in all phases of the game. Perfect timing to come back home and do work against the Pirates and ‘Stros. Wrigley should be a fun place to be the next 6 days.
PurpleLineToWrigley - July 31, 2008
The Miller Park Massacre
is now complete!
Josh Timmers - July 31, 2008
Yep.
It was epic and shall be long remembered
slcathena - July 31, 2008
Raise your hand if you predicted a sweep. I sure didn’t. I thought 2 out of 4 would be nice, considering the Cubs’ road problems this year and the fact that they had to face Sheets and Sabathia. When they won the third game yesterday, I thought they might relax a bit today and let a bad pitcher keep them down. Didn’t happen. The team made a real statement this week after several weeks of mediocre playing, and I think this can carry through August and September.
danimal15 - July 31, 2008
I voted in that poll we would split
I never thought we’d sweep!
Chanman25 - July 31, 2008
I voted 3 of 4 and thought I was wildly optimistic
who’da thunk?
Emelie - July 31, 2008
I thought we would
split. Never thought a sweep would be possible!
PhillyCub - July 31, 2008
I'd have taken a split without playing the games last Saturday
Shanghai Badger - July 31, 2008
I predicted 3/4
slcathena - July 31, 2008
me.
too
brian custer - July 31, 2008
just got home from work...
what was up ith the ejections?? how many were there total? what happened? lol
preachermancubsfan - July 31, 2008
Gagne was pitching to Jim Edmonds who had hit two homeruns earlier
Threw 4 straight inside balls and the 4th was BEHIND edmonds. The ump immediately ejected Gagne with no hesitation whatsoever. Yost came out to stupidly argue but the ump wasn’t buying it.
Next inning Eyre was pitching to Prince Fielder and he didn’t like a questionable strike. He then popped up, slammed the bat to the ground. As he was walking back to the dugout, he started screaming HORSESHT! HORSESHT! to the ump. Bye bye Prince.
cubsonWGN4ever - July 31, 2008
greedy?
now don’t go and lose 2 of 3 to Pitt
JCD - July 31, 2008
yeah, we need good Marquis tomorrow
Zakh - July 31, 2008
The best thing about todays
game for me is Harden got his first win as a Cub. What a spectacular series this was.
sue369 - July 31, 2008
I agree with you sue.
Jimmyeatworld - July 31, 2008
Me too.
He has been just plain nasty. About time that our offense and bullpen helped him out…
PurpleLineToWrigley - July 31, 2008
agreed.
He was money today.
slcathena - July 31, 2008
Agree
I watched Harden a lot out here in the SF Bay Area and I was VERY happy that Billy Beane traded him to us. Bad for the A’s, though. When Harden is on and not hurt he is as good as any pitcher in the league.
However, a close second today has to be Jim Edmonds performance today. I never thought I would root for Edmonds. I wonder what the Padres are saying these days about Edmonds.
wccubfan - July 31, 2008
Had to catch innings sporadically
The two key moments I saw:
1) Soriano doubling Weeks off first
2) Edmonds’ bases-loaded moonshot
I predict a Brewers downward spiral so severe they miss the postseason. Nice knowing ya, babies!
Goodie1969 - July 31, 2008
I really wish I could agree with that
But, all of the crappy teams they’re playing the rest of the way just got crappier. They’ll hang around.
STLCubFan - July 31, 2008
Fearless Prediction
Cardinals finish ahead of them in the division. I know on paper the Brewers are better, but I just can’t shake this feeling I have about St. Louis. They won’t go away…
Goodie1969 - July 31, 2008
I have the same feeling.
Cards Cubs in the NLCS. It wouldn’t surprise me AT ALL.
slcathena - July 31, 2008
i hate to say it...
but i think the east is gonna make a run and get the wildcard
preachermancubsfan - July 31, 2008
Very possibly
Which is why we must stomp on this division! This was a good start…
Goodie1969 - July 31, 2008
I live down in St. Louis
and I’m sorta rooting for that. Sure I wouldn’t mind seeing their brains get kicked in either, but I’d also really like us to get a chance to experience what New York and Boston has… way too many times.
STLCubFan - July 31, 2008
Nope, home schedule in September and weak competition says they'll be in it until the end, IMO.
NotSure - July 31, 2008
OVER/UNDER on how quickly
Manny Ramirez and Jeff Kent get into a fight?
If Bonds and Kent came to blows, this is a lock!
LAcarl519 - July 31, 2008
Who would dare take on "The Moustache?"
PurpleLineToWrigley - July 31, 2008
Does he need to be added to my site?
Mustache Hall of Fame
digitalbenjamin - July 31, 2008
Less than a week.
slcathena - July 31, 2008
a distinct possibility...
LAcarl519 - July 31, 2008
Wow wish I was home to watch this
allstar5449 - July 31, 2008
Later ya'll.
Jimmyeatworld - July 31, 2008
Later Jameschewplanet...
Goodie1969 - July 31, 2008

slcathena - July 31, 2008
bye Jimmy
sue369 - July 31, 2008
I'm going to go
for a bit too. I’ll check back later.
GO CUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sue369 - July 31, 2008
later!
jbau - July 31, 2008
See you later, Sue!
I’ll be on for the Cards game for a bit.
slcathena - July 31, 2008
16 minutes left.
What an afternoon. I’m going to be clicking my heels on the way to the train…
PurpleLineToWrigley - July 31, 2008
Wish I could leave on time today.
I had to follow the entire game on the Internet between work calls and emails. Work ruins what should have been a fine baseball day.
danimal15 - July 31, 2008
HOW SWEEP IT IS
SouthsideCUBSfan - July 31, 2008
the cubs
are the best. and so are you all here on bcb
brian custer - July 31, 2008
VICTORY!!!!!!!! SWEEEEEEEEP!!!!!
21 GAMES OVER .500, BABY!
drewishdrewid - July 31, 2008
:D
So happy.
slcathena - July 31, 2008
Good morning from Okinawa Japan
Was Dome part of the slug fest? 31 runs in 4-games series is great.
It’s gonna be hot today again….
dragonsfanatic - July 31, 2008
yup. a hr and a double, if i recall.
jbau - July 31, 2008
Dome is back.
Officially, in my opinion. :)
slcathena - July 31, 2008
Yes! It truly looks like he's back
Emelie - July 31, 2008
Love your photography, Dragons
Emelie - July 31, 2008
better yet was the starting pitching
if i did the math right, the starters combined for 5 ER in 28 innings, for a 1.61 ERA for the serious-against the brewers in a high pressure series-bodes well for the postseason
billmurrayforowner - July 31, 2008
That's a ridiculous set of numbers
This series was surreal. Maybe it’s because Marquis wasn’t in any of the games, so he didn’t have the opportunity to muck up a game.
NittanyCub - July 31, 2008
Absolutely nuts.
Wow.
Our club was so on this series. It was amazing, hope we can keep it up for the rest of the season and beyond. :)
slcathena - July 31, 2008
I missed the fun here
But got to see the highlights on ESPN.
Wow…what an amazing series for the boys!
I hope this starts a huge roll towars october now.
Kudos to Harden for his overdue first win as a Cub
Aussie Cub - July 31, 2008
This may have been my favorite series
In the history of the universe. Maybe not… but I’m pretty darn excited.
