Still has some luck in it. I’ve been looking for it for weeks, found it today, and put it on right before I logged onto BCB only to find out we got Harden and Gaudin. Nice.
Now, let’s score some runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Demp!!!!!!!
keep Hardin healthy. And I like adding Gaudin. All things considered, losing Murton and Patterson doesn’t bother me, and switching Gallagher for Hardin is nice. I don’t know anything about Donaldson, but with Soto, I’m not worried about catcher for a while
but then what would larry take? 40: dick harden 41: lou 42: jackie robinson, retired 43: wuertz 44: chad fox 45: we are marshall!! 46: dempster 47: eyre 48: cotts 49: marmol
those are all pitchers. never realized that. give larry a AAA number, like 92
Healthy Harden and Zambrano make a solid 1-2 and if Dempster keeps it up and Lilly continues to pitch as well as he has most of the time we just need Marquis to give us 6 and give up 3 or 4 runs every time out like he has a good portion of the season.
“He didn’t look as good in his last two starts,” said one official, “and the Cubs’ offer was a good offer. There were probably months when Billy didn’t know if he was going to get anything out of Harden at all, and now he’s in a situation when he can get Sean Gallagher for him and he jumped at it.”
Yes but it was not nearly close to happening from what I heard. First indication something was hopping was mid afternoon Kaplan said on WGN that something was brewing at Wrigley.
There are times I wonder if Hendry is getting pictures of some of these GMs. Can he send the photographer to Jerry Angelo, John Paxson and Dale Tallon’s office to take some of other GMs in their sports?

I hate to say it but sometimes I am so 12 years old. There was a segment on the Score where it sounded like Hendry was saying Hardon not Harden and it made me crack up.
That’s an interesting question, though. I know there was a reliever who got traded from the AL to the NL before the ASG… can’t remember what happened, though.
Just curious if you had a friend who's an A's fan what would
If you were asked by an As fan about the guys they got what would you say?]
Me Gallagher tremendous upside. Shows a lot of promise. 22 years old,. Obvioiusly the cornerstone of the trade.
Murton: Doesn’t have a spot on the team. Has shown promise but not fulfilled. Decent double power but not homerun power. Like Michael Jackson he wears one glove for no apparent reason.
Patterson: Another promising player with no real spot on the current team. Great speed. No D.
I assured him he was getting a quality, young, arm in Gallagher, that Patterson had some promise, better in the infield than the outfield. Donaldson could be a good catcher.
He told me we were getting quality arms…and if Harden stays healthy, he’s the best there is.
this season the umps have had some funky zones. Last night’s Twins-Boston zone-a great pitching match-was so out of whack it wasn’t funny. So was the Cubs’ Saturday game. What’s up with that?
honest, full disclosure re medical system, really a fair trade. Harden has best stuff in baseball when healthy. high risk/high reward. harden has thrown very well lately although not quite as dominant.
Big Red D (that’s the weird nickname I got for him) could be the key for the rest of this season. If he keeps this up can you imagine those 3 in a 5 or 7 game series and Lilly?
Oh Canada their home and native land THey are true patriots of and they show great command With glowing hearts we see them rise True aces strong and free From Far and Wide OH Canadians From far and Wide Oh canada They stand on mound for we
God keep their arms injury free Oh Canada they stand on mound for we Oh canada they stand on mound for we
Sure he was hot, but the true measure of a hitter is how successfully he adjusts to the adjustments pitchers make to him. And it looks like Brucie has a lot of work to do. I’m far from sold on him. Remember when Fontenot was batting .380 last year?
Hendry: Gaudin can give us 2 or 3 innings if we need it, a good bridge to the late inning guys,
last year had 24 starts last year, up to 93 mph, a real tuff competitor, played for lou in tampa, we’ll give him a fair shot and hopefully he fits the role. cubs only dressing 23 tonight. will relax after we win the game, a lot like Ron during the game.

we needed something fresh in the pen
cubs2410 - July 8, 2008
Just a note for tonight
We are very shorthanded. Only 4 bench players (no replacement for Murton yet) and one pitcher short in the bullpen (Gaudin hasn’t arrived).
Of course, it will be a moot point if we light up Harang like we should.
DeRoMyHero - July 8, 2008
whats our roster now?
who goes when soriano comes back?
cubs2410 - July 8, 2008
I have a feeling that Hendry is not finished.....

What do you think Harden
will wear for a jersey number? My fuzzy memory recalls that Harden wore
#40 so do you think he will wear that number again for the Cubs?
And should we expect to see #57 for Gaudin?
BigDcubbie - July 8, 2008
isn't rothschild 40?
would the pitching coach give up his number? why not? then again, would hardon want rothschild’s number?
fajita - July 8, 2008
good point
maybe #41 for Harden?

drewishdrewid - July 8, 2008
Yeah,
I agree. Gaudin really is the key to this deal. Tremendous upside, maybe even more so than the Viagra spokesman, (Dick Harden).

Gaudin.....

Is Harden an all star, and if so what team would he play for?
Jayo525 - July 8, 2008
Not all star
Not all star but if he was and he changes leagues what happens?
puckishcubsfan - July 8, 2008
He's never been an All-star
That’s an interesting question, though. I know there was a reliever who got traded from the AL to the NL before the ASG… can’t remember what happened, though.
Ugh, this is gonna bug me.
NittanyCub - July 8, 2008
Wasn't it Randy Johnson, Clemens, or Schilling??
dtpollitt - July 8, 2008
With a very objective observation
I remember it being an orange uniform… maybe to the Giants? Or from the O’s? Dang it, I can’t believe I don’t remember this
Memory you’re failing me once again
NittanyCub - July 8, 2008
I wanna say Randy Johnson to the Astros
but I could be wrong
Jayo525 - July 8, 2008
He got traded to the 'Stros in '98
(he only played one season there? Swear it was longer), and he was 21st in MVP voting and 7th in CY voting, but no ASG for him that year.
NittanyCub - July 8, 2008
Since Madison isn't here...
GEO IS SUCH A STUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
slcathena - July 8, 2008
Yes, yes he is
sue369 - July 8, 2008
Especially his "awe shucks" demeaner
cowsarecool220 - July 8, 2008
yep, very humble
sue369 - July 8, 2008
He said he's
gonna feel like a Bat Boy at the ASG being so young compared to everyone else
Jayo525 - July 8, 2008
Awwww.
See, that just makes me love him more!
We need to get that blog up and running!
slcathena - July 8, 2008
Just curious if you had a friend who's an A's fan what would
If you were asked by an As fan about the guys they got what would you say?]
Me Gallagher tremendous upside. Shows a lot of promise. 22 years old,. Obvioiusly the cornerstone of the trade.
Murton: Doesn’t have a spot on the team. Has shown promise but not fulfilled. Decent double power but not homerun power. Like Michael Jackson he wears one glove for no apparent reason.
Patterson: Another promising player with no real spot on the current team. Great speed. No D.
Donaldson High upside catcher.
puckishcubsfan - July 8, 2008
Oddly I had this conversation an hour ago.
He knew Murton.
I assured him he was getting a quality, young, arm in Gallagher, that Patterson had some promise, better in the infield than the outfield. Donaldson could be a good catcher.
He told me we were getting quality arms…and if Harden stays healthy, he’s the best there is.
slcathena - July 8, 2008
I've heard...
...Harden has the highest K/9 and winning percentage of any starter in MLB…
dtpollitt - July 8, 2008
It's true.
Over 10. Totally nuts, Second is Kazmir, with 9.something.
slcathena - July 8, 2008
I'm pretty sad to see Gallagher go
I’m gonna miss him, I think the man had some great stuff and was homegrown, too. 22 years old and already in the majors, dang.

Roberts
Bolsterman - July 8, 2008
not THIS again.
Mark DeRosa is having a career year. You don’t bench that.
drewishdrewid - July 8, 2008
Pass on Roberts
And stick with versitle DeRo
Anywhere the Cubs need him to play, he does.
I don’t see Roberts doing that for the O’s. It’s unfair to expect him to
play multiple spots IF he comes to the Cubs
BigDcubbie - July 8, 2008
I think it's pretty ridiculous how COLD Burrell has gotten...he was ON FIRE first 1/4 of the season...
dtpollitt - July 8, 2008
I agree on Longoria
I’m not sure on the NL yet, trying to figure that out.
slcathena - July 8, 2008
Dye/Hart
Can’t go wrong w/ Dye or Longoria though, both are on fire.
Jayo525 - July 8, 2008

slcathena - July 8, 2008
I've been noticing
this season the umps have had some funky zones. Last night’s Twins-Boston zone-a great pitching match-was so out of whack it wasn’t funny. So was the Cubs’ Saturday game. What’s up with that?

Imagine. Soriano back. Hill gets out of the Looney Bin. If everything’s clicking we’re the most talented team in baseball.
RightFieldSucks - July 8, 2008
Getting HILL back is like getting a free #3 starter...

Dan

it would be good.

if the bullpen blew the game for him?

NittanyCub - July 8, 2008
Hendry: pleasure to do business with Beane,
honest, full disclosure re medical system, really a fair trade. Harden has best stuff in baseball when healthy. high risk/high reward. harden has thrown very well lately although not quite as dominant.
joeschmitt: i very excite!!!
joeschmitt - July 8, 2008
Hendry
Hendry always is very nice about the other GM and other people involved. Just once I want him to say “He was a real grade A butt”
puckishcubsfan - July 8, 2008
Dempster
Big Red D (that’s the weird nickname I got for him) could be the key for the rest of this season. If he keeps this up can you imagine those 3 in a 5 or 7 game series and Lilly?

what’s left? We got a theoretical ace and a good bullpen arm. What else do we want? He’s not going to trade Theriot.
drewishdrewid - July 8, 2008
Yeah, I agree
I don’t see a real hole on this team…..especially since Lou’s made it very clear that Sori is a leadoff hitter.

Jay Bruce
Sure he was hot, but the true measure of a hitter is how successfully he adjusts to the adjustments pitchers make to him. And it looks like Brucie has a lot of work to do. I’m far from sold on him. Remember when Fontenot was batting .380 last year?
RightFieldSucks - July 8, 2008
Right on with that analogy
Couldn’t have said it better
NittanyCub - July 8, 2008
