ball seemed to hit at the seam of the grass and dirt and didn’t bounce up very much. Perfect defensive form might have still allowed him to get it, but he was charging the ball.

Won the Indy 500. Moved to F1 and ruined a whole team by giving them poor feedback. Fired and went to NASCAR where he is “not liked” for a number of reasons unbeknownst to me, as I don’t like that series.
I’m guessing that the reason the Cubs are carrying 13 pitchers and not calling up a position player is that Jim Hendry is trying to trade a pitcher (Wuertz, Lieber, Marshall, or Marquis) for a 4th OF before the ASB. I don’t think that Lou wants Pie back up, Hoffpauir duplicates Ward, Fuld can’t hit AA pitching, and Dubois and Kroeger are 4A players.
Go Cubs!

great trivia Q for non-Cub fans is “who hit the single that cause the Pete Rose/Ray Fosse collision?
kentmeister - July 9, 2008
Wow.
There is not a .300 hitter in the Reds lineup. Not one.
slcathena - July 9, 2008

Some help please
Can you watch archived games on MLB.tv without having a MLB.tv subscription? I thought I saw someone on here that you just have to have a MLB.com account. Is that right, or do you have to have some sort of MLB.tv subscription?
McRipper - July 9, 2008
I think you can during the times they have a "free trial" going on.
I was able to in June, but not in July.
DeRoMyHero - July 9, 2008
Maybe that's what I saw
Thanks, DeRo.
McRipper - July 9, 2008
All you need is an account to watch the archived games...
that’s what I do sometimes. I don’t have a subscription…
Bump Bailey - July 9, 2008
I tried that
and I get an error saying they can’t verify my credit card. I have just a plain MLB.com account for fantasy baseball.
McRipper - July 9, 2008
Mulder: Faces 3 hitters walks two of them
He Gone!
Galvan316 - July 9, 2008

bad error or tough hop?
DeRoMyHero - July 9, 2008
ehh, guess it hit the lip of the grass, went through his legs
CubsBall2202 - July 9, 2008
He misread the ball,
it hit the lip and he thought it would come up higher, but it didn’t, and went through his legs
slcathena - July 9, 2008
A little difficult
ball seemed to hit at the seam of the grass and dirt and didn’t bounce up very much. Perfect defensive form might have still allowed him to get it, but he was charging the ball.
cubzfan - July 9, 2008
Nice start Z!
slcathena - July 9, 2008
We call that play "tunnel"
...in Japanese baseball – so does US?
dragonsfanatic - July 9, 2008
Usually it's "through the wicket",
a reference to croquet.
Also, you will sometimes hear “through the five-hole”, which is a term borrowed from ice hockey.
DeRoMyHero - July 9, 2008
So that's another Japanese baseball English...
dragonsfanatic - July 9, 2008
Yes, I've never heard the term "tunnel" for a ball between the legs.
DeRoMyHero - July 9, 2008
Dragonsfanatic
Maybe a dumb question: But what is the reaction in Japan about Fukudome making the all-star game as a starter?
Galvan316 - July 9, 2008
Mostly celebrating

Galvan316 - July 9, 2008
That's an understatement
Goat Whisperer - July 9, 2008
There are some diehards
as Dragons are having worst time right now in these 5 years….
dragonsfanatic - July 9, 2008
Glendon Rusch is going to get the hell beat out of him in Milwaukee tonight
CubsBall2202 - July 9, 2008
I like that guy
chilango2 - July 9, 2008
Just realized
That Zambrano has the highest batting average in our lineup today. By almost 50 points. Would have taken me a while to guess that.
dbaltman - July 9, 2008
Ken Griffey Jr.
is the reason why Ichiro wears #51 since he became a pro, but now he wears #3…
dragonsfanatic - July 9, 2008
Griffey wore #30 didn't he?
carmen_fanzone - July 9, 2008

cubs2410 - July 9, 2008
yep
Emelie - July 9, 2008
Lou's pregame show
They want Harden to have extra time at the ASB. It’s not because they regard him as a #4. Lilly before Z and Demp because he isn’t going to the ASG.
DeRoMyHero - July 9, 2008

iluvryno - July 9, 2008
Don't get me wrong, I love Maddux
But Harden is cuter. :P
slcathena - July 9, 2008
What is it with Maddux?
My fiancee is madly in love with him and has been forever.
chilango2 - July 9, 2008
He's got that cute, professorial, smart, athlete thing going on.
I can’t explain it. He’s awesome. :P
Harden is DEFINITELY objectively cuter, though.
slcathena - July 9, 2008

It’s Greg Maddux “boy next door” look. He’s so cute.

cowsarecool220 - July 9, 2008
I love Rami...
but he didn’t seem to be hustling on that slow grounder.
carmen_fanzone - July 9, 2008
I thought he looked okay on it,
He didn’t want to get fooled by a wicked bounce off the lip of the grass. That makes sense toe me.
slcathena - July 9, 2008
No, the double play when he was batting...
carmen_fanzone - July 9, 2008
Ah.
I missed that, stood up to get some water. Sorry. :P

this is ridiculous. anyone else with directv having this problem?
nathew - July 9, 2008
You can't record?
I just hit the record, no problem here…..
crazymountain - July 9, 2008
It's posts like these

crazymountain - July 9, 2008
It's done that in the past indeed.
There’s no workaround. But 640 should be CSN with Len and Bob, so other than not being able to record it, it’s fine, right?

Rusch only one run thru 3 innings...impressive!
I would have expected him to put up a snowman (8) by now.
LAcarl519 - July 9, 2008
He does have 70 pitches through 4 though
PirateDan - July 9, 2008

brownbuddha - July 9, 2008

Sheets has 10 K’s but is already at 87 pitches
PirateDan - July 9, 2008

drewishdrewid - July 9, 2008
Let's hope
cocknfire - July 9, 2008
Sounds like the Z of old
leothelip - July 9, 2008

Bump Bailey - July 9, 2008

MinnesotaFan - July 9, 2008
so Marshall is out of the rotation (for now) according to Ron and Pat??
MinnesotaFan - July 9, 2008
Yeah
We’ve got to have a space in the rotation for Marquis. He pitches so well after the ASB, you know…
cocknfire - July 9, 2008
Didn't take Dusty long to ruin Harang, did it? ;)
cocknfire - July 9, 2008
darnit.
drewishdrewid - July 9, 2008
Atkins 2 run hr in milwaukee, 3-1 rockies
CubsBall2202 - July 9, 2008
Excellent!
Bump Bailey - July 9, 2008
Go Rockies!!!!
slcathena - July 9, 2008
against Sheets?
or the BP?
drewishdrewid - July 9, 2008
Thinking out loud here (and avoiding work)...
Any other ideas?
DeRoMyHero - July 9, 2008
It'd better be Marquis, and Pie had better be up before the season is over...
northsider - July 10, 2008
Overflow thread up
Hyah
