During the last few days, he took to saying how a game-winning hit for Sosa was an example of Sammy just taking what he could get, not swinging for the fences, etc. Sosa told him that wasn’t true, he was just trying to hit the ball the same way he always did. Morgan kept telling the story anyway.
We all understand what Pinella is trying to do with Dome
The same thing Baker did with Corey, batting him 1st or 2nd weeks, maybe months past when he should have been dropped. But August pennant races are not really the type for psychological experiments. In fact, I think batting a struggling guy 2nd only increased the pressure on the player, bat him lower down, take the pressure off a bit and let him find his stroke. I’m not sure there is a good answer here – to be honest he should probably be benched more in favor of RJ.
Cosell famously called an African American running back a "monkey"...
as in “look at that little monkey go…”. He stated that it was a term of endearment in his household growing up for children running around the house….but it was the beginning of the end for his ABC broadcasting career.
Now that I’ve explained it, probably a bit of a reach for quick-witted humor….
100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years 100 years
As frustrated as I am by the short innings, it does seem that they are seeing the ball out of his hand. I do think we will get a big inning off Carpenter eventually. I will stop complaining.

cubswynn - August 10, 2008
P-push it real good
spoiledcubbage - August 10, 2008
Doesn't Miller always seem to dress like an aged pimp?
I assume he looks in the mirror and thinks those outfits are great for TV
LAcarl519 - August 10, 2008
Hence the reason
for his success on KNBR radio…the clothing ensemble ;-)
spoiledcubbage - August 10, 2008
yes, a wardrobe budget for radio...makes sense!
LAcarl519 - August 10, 2008

“aged pimp” is awesome…

IowaCubs- - August 10, 2008
That's ok, just go after Ludwick. He's gonna strike him out to end the inning.
Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008

cocknfire - August 10, 2008
C'mon Demp. Throw strikes, get out of this!
Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008
Morgan showing his skill as a recycler
Same story about DeRo being a utility guy who can hit as he used in pre-game.
Tell me this pain won’t last much longer…..
DeRoMyHero - August 10, 2008
I remember back in the Wild Card run in 1998
During the last few days, he took to saying how a game-winning hit for Sosa was an example of Sammy just taking what he could get, not swinging for the fences, etc. Sosa told him that wasn’t true, he was just trying to hit the ball the same way he always did. Morgan kept telling the story anyway.
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
no volume
no pain
tim815 - August 10, 2008
Slider working well
But he’s got to keep using the fastball to make that effective
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
Good set up pitch for the slider away to end the inning.
Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008
pat says cards have #2 offense in the league (runs scored)
next to cubs, of course – but i find that surprising
CubbyBlues - August 10, 2008

Emelie - August 10, 2008
soriano is LOCKED IN

CubbyBlues - August 10, 2008
Wow. Carpenter is really scared of Sori
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
contreras is out for the season....was he pitching well this year for the sox?
Zakh - August 10, 2008

CubbyBlues - August 10, 2008

cocknfire - August 10, 2008

spoiledcubbage - August 10, 2008
Shoot. Putting Dome in the second spot didn't work that time.
zevkalman - August 10, 2008

i think i said that already
tim815 - August 10, 2008
too early in the game IMO
Bump Bailey - August 10, 2008
Damn

Curtain Jerker - August 10, 2008

spoiledcubbage - August 10, 2008

cubswynn - August 10, 2008
Crap..
5 pitch inning…
Bump Bailey - August 10, 2008
5 pitch?
Fuck.
GoCubbies34 - August 10, 2008
yeah...and he is on an 80 pitch limit....not good
Zakh - August 10, 2008
5 pitches not counting all the throws to first
not a good start… Get em next inning
LT - August 10, 2008
damn it
4 years 48 mil…he makes more than DLee he needs to be better
CubbyBlues - August 10, 2008
i think he's a smart player and will make the appropriate adjustments
cubswynn - August 10, 2008
i agree
hopefully in time for the postseason (if we can hold on and get there, which i am very confident we will)
CubbyBlues - August 10, 2008
Five pitches?!
Did Dusty Baker get hired as hitting coach? Hopefully it’ll improve, getting to that tasty Cardinal bullpen early would be nice.
Curtain Jerker - August 10, 2008
small ball for one pitch :-(
...5 pitch inning. ugh.
not much executed well after the Sori single.
LAcarl519 - August 10, 2008
Here we go ...
Not Bruce Froemming - August 10, 2008
Blame Pinella, not Dome
He doesn’t bat himself second, Lou does and there is no excuse to bat a guy hitting barely .200 the past 1/4 of the season #2 in the lineup. None.
BeltwayCubsFan - August 10, 2008
Maybe he is trying to get him some better pitches to hit?
LT - August 10, 2008
Good point.
DeRoMyHero - August 10, 2008
I guess I can agree NOW (ex post facto), but maybe Lou wanted to shake Dome out of
his awful slump by putting him in the 2-hole?
Admittedly, it sure didn’t work that time!
zevkalman - August 10, 2008
At this rate
Carpenter can sit down after the 16th inning
spoiledcubbage - August 10, 2008
we'll be fine
few ledge jumpers? we will get to him eventually
CubbyBlues - August 10, 2008
Doesn't take 'em long, does it?
One inning and it’s already starting. Yikes.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 10, 2008
I am confident that one inning does not a trend make.
LAcarl519 - August 10, 2008
Hope you're correct
If the Cubs don’t score in the second, heaven forbid, the reactions here might get out of control.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 10, 2008
C'mon Demp, hold 'em down!!
Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008

Zakh - August 10, 2008
He'll be up in September.
cowsarecool220 - August 10, 2008
No place for him until Sept. 1st.
Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008
but is he allowed to be part of the post season roster if he isn't on the active roster by
the end of august unless there is an injury?
Zakh - August 10, 2008
There would have to be an injury for him to make the post season roster.
Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008
totally premature, but i would like to see him as DH if we make the series
Zakh - August 10, 2008
Unless Ward gets hurt again, not gonna happen.
Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008
so noted :D
and… yeah
Emelie - August 10, 2008
Too bad
Very tough play for DeRosa
Curtain Jerker - August 10, 2008
Joe Morgan....

cowsarecool220 - August 10, 2008
They're debating the meaning of "few"
Shoot me now
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
Why is ESPN showing pictures of some old drunk in the Cards dugout?
zevkalman - August 10, 2008

tim815 - August 10, 2008
the manager
zevkalman - August 10, 2008
No need to state the painfully obvious, Joe
Just the slightly obvious will do
spoiledcubbage - August 10, 2008
Stating the painfully obvious...
Sort of like us complaining about him?
Jayo525 - August 10, 2008
Yeah, but it's fun to make fun of him
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
Plus
we’re wittier ;-)
spoiledcubbage - August 10, 2008
Both true statements
Jayo525 - August 10, 2008
uh, check the runner?
tim815 - August 10, 2008
Ah, why? If you just pitch, the catcher can get him, right? ;)
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
not in this case
cowsarecool220 - August 10, 2008
I was being sarcastic...sorry if it didn't come through
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
Ahhh....
cowsarecool220 - August 10, 2008
come on demp
Zakh - August 10, 2008

everyone’s gotta be ready
tim815 - August 10, 2008

Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008
Didn't know
that Waveland Ave. was behind the right field bleachers. Must be if Jon Miller says so.
sweetswinger - August 10, 2008
Okay, now Joe and John don't know the difference between Waveland and Sheffield...
NotSure - August 10, 2008
we are surprised?
Emelie - August 10, 2008
the guy who preps Miller for the game wrote
Waveland on his left hand and Sheffield on his right. It is clear he doesn’t know his left from his right…surprised?
LAcarl519 - August 10, 2008
He has his arms crossed
flachimesa - August 10, 2008
How would they?
It isn’t like they haven’t been to Wrigley before…
The amatuerish-ness (not really a word) of this crew astounds me.
Curtain Jerker - August 10, 2008
never thought i would see that!
Zakh - August 10, 2008
hustle double by aram
Zakh - August 10, 2008

The same thing Baker did with Corey, batting him 1st or 2nd weeks, maybe months past when he should have been dropped. But August pennant races are not really the type for psychological experiments. He’s more idiotic or just as
Emelie - August 10, 2008
Jon Miller ... much better with Giant games
His brain cells die each time he hears Morgan talk
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
No offense, but...
If you’re going to call someone idiotic, at least spell “who’s” right. :)
jdb-44 - August 10, 2008
feh.... anal
c’mon
Emelie - August 10, 2008
who cares?
sue369 - August 10, 2008
I'm just saying. No offense intended.
I have this Tourette’s Syndrome like thing going. Just ignore me.
jdb-44 - August 10, 2008
will do
Emelie - August 10, 2008
I think Em should be required to spell "who's" correctly...
When Miller shows enough intelligence to make us think he could spell it correctly
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
John Miller I think
sue369 - August 10, 2008
work that count ballgame
cubswynn - August 10, 2008
wow...almost gone
Zakh - August 10, 2008
Edmonds sure tagged that one.
zevkalman - August 10, 2008
Wow
That’s the hardest-hit fly ball I think I’ve ever seen
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
Ed just missed that one!
Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008
damn
yesterday, that would be two runs
spoiledcubbage - August 10, 2008
I think Miller's drunk tonight
“Bummer, dude”????
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
Yesterday that would have hit the center field party area
Curtain Jerker - August 10, 2008
Miller
Bummer dude?
muffman - August 10, 2008
all around hustle by aram!
Zakh - August 10, 2008
Exactly
Talk about “manufacturing” a run.
That reminded me a bit of vintage Rickey Henderson: Get on first, steal second and third, sac fly home.
Curtain Jerker - August 10, 2008
1-0
bummer dude!
LT - August 10, 2008

spoiledcubbage - August 10, 2008
Never thought I'd see Rammy getting a run through his running.
zevkalman - August 10, 2008
It's the healthiest his legs have been in about 10 years...
Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008
The slide into home was pretty impressive, too
cocknfire - August 10, 2008
rammy has to hustle on three straight at bats....he's gotta be gassed
cubswynn - August 10, 2008
Never thought I'd say it
But I wouldn’t mind having a #15 Cubs jersey
eamus-catuli - August 10, 2008
where are all the jumpers?
first blood but OH NOOO dempster has 41 pitches!
CubbyBlues - August 10, 2008
regardless of the lead
41 pitches through two innings is not good
cubswynn - August 10, 2008
granted
but this is common if you look at his starts – he is a bit out of sorts early on and then starts to cruise, just watch
CubbyBlues - August 10, 2008
fine but that doesn't mean i'm a jumper
i pride myself in being the exact opposite thank you
cubswynn - August 10, 2008
Cubs take the lead :)
I’ll be at the game on tuesday, just talked my dad into it. ill be in left centerfield
cubsfaninatl - August 10, 2008

sue369 - August 10, 2008
I had a friend who was a College Champ.
I have never seen a women let alone a 5’1” 91lb woman eat so much food.
She would order a large pizza and ask us what we were going to eat, and meant it.

I think the conditioning work Ramy did last winter
is paying off big-time. He looks years younger, and he’s playing like it.
DeRoMyHero - August 10, 2008
Agreed, but his bat does't look as fast as it used to be.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - August 10, 2008
His bat hasn't lost anything.
Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008
Carp with only 17 pitches.
Dome and Lee really needed to have had more patience in the 1st inning.

NotSure - August 10, 2008
dont know what that means

preachermancubsfan - August 10, 2008
Cosell famously called an African American running back a "monkey"...
as in “look at that little monkey go…”. He stated that it was a term of endearment in his household growing up for children running around the house….but it was the beginning of the end for his ABC broadcasting career.
Now that I’ve explained it, probably a bit of a reach for quick-witted humor….
NotSure - August 10, 2008

They could be working the count…but I will say that they have been hitting the ball hard. So I’m not worried…yet.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - August 10, 2008
I was going to say the same thing.
As frustrated as I am by the short innings, it does seem that they are seeing the ball out of his hand. I do think we will get a big inning off Carpenter eventually. I will stop complaining.
Pound the Carpenter!!

Jimmyeatworld - August 10, 2008
Thats why he
plays so shallow, alot more bloop hits than line drives to the center field wall.
Mikey Blue Eyes - August 10, 2008
