There wasn't much worth remembering via photo about Saturday's game... so, while we wait for tonight's game, how about some memories from Friday's big win?

Cubs celebrate the win on Friday
on this pic…its like the kids table and the grown up table… the coaches are staying out of the players way…
cozmotaylor123 - August 10, 2008
I have a feeling...
... that Lou came out after the players had their little scrum and congratulated all of them.
Al Yellon - August 10, 2008
he didn't
want to get knocked over..
cozmotaylor123 - August 10, 2008
Wonderful photos!
I agree. Let’s pretend that yesterday never happened. Onward. Go Cubs!
Emelie - August 10, 2008
Help with identifying everyone in the picture where Soriano is greeting Blanco
Left to right, I got:
Wood, ?, Blanco, Cedeno, Soriano, Z, DeRosa, Fonty, Marquis, Soto, Dome, A-Ram, ?
So I guess it’s just the guy on the left near Wood (is it Harden maybe?), and the guy directly in front of Aramis, that I can’t identify.

Those p[hotos are awesome!

I went to the Bears game on thursday
and i am pretty damn sure that is thesame parachute team that came down in Soldier Field.

Micah Hoffpauir
Micah Hoffpauir hit four solo home runs yesterday. I think it is time we replace Darryl Ward.
He is batting .374 for the Iowa Cubs, .378 for the Chicago Cubs in his limited time. We waited to bring Geo Soto last year. Let’s not wait to bring this high average, power lefty!
Cub Fan Mike - August 10, 2008
I wasn't that high on Hoffpauir.
But clearly, for the short term, he’s a better option than Ward, who will be gone next year anyway. I say yes to this, too.
Al Yellon - August 10, 2008
My guess is you may see Pie on the roster for the post-season (fingers crossed, of course)
versus Hoffpauir…but either option will be better than D.Ward.
Ward’s production this is year is very limited and he always has to be lifted for a pinch runner if he does get on (usually via a walk). Pie gives you the option of a defensive replacement, a pinch-runner and hopefully he will be a semi-productive bat—at least no worse than Ward. Hoff is a better bat, obviously, but does not have the versatility that a Pie can give you at crunch time.
But let’s not worry about either guy now. Let’s hope they both get a chance to show their stuff in September. I do think Lou will have to think hard about taking Ward off the roster at the end of the year if either Hoff or Pie have a productive September call up.
LAcarl519 - August 10, 2008
You will probably get two of the three
between Ward, Hoff, and Pie. Most teams carry only 11 pitchers on the playoff roster, so their is room for an extra position player.
DeRoMyHero - August 10, 2008
Both Pie and Hoffpauir will be September call-ups, no doubt..
...don’t they have to be on roster by Sept 1st to be on postseason roster?
If so, the Hoff needs to be called up ASAP. Ward is simply not getting the job done.
NotSure - August 10, 2008
Hello BCB boys and girls
Just dropping in from the VEB to say hello.
Question:
If the last playoff spot came down to us(Redbirds) and the Brewers and it was all riding on the last series of the year would you guys hope the Cubs pounded the brew crew so the Cards got in or the Brewers beat the Cubs and they get in?
This is, of course, meaning the cubs had already clinched the division.
Anyways, hope to see good baseball tonight. It is always fun chatting with you guys and I hope to see you all in the playoffs. My honest opinion is Cubs run away with the division now and the cards sneak in past the brew crew.
hoofhearted-pujols - August 10, 2008
Tough call.
Either way, the Cubs couldn’t meet either Milwaukee or St. Louis till the NLCS (because you can’t play a team in your own division in the first round).
Cubs have played both teams pretty well. Obviously, I wouldn’t want the Cubs to lose any games they play, even after they’ve already clinched, if it happens the way you describe. I see the Cardinals have a favorable schedule, finishing at home vs. Arizona & Cincinnati.
Al Yellon - August 10, 2008
Maybe
Maybe the Cards will make the playoffs and win the first round and our first world series in 100 years will start with beating our arch rivals in the league championship series just like the Red Sox in 04 beat the Yankees.
puckishcubsfan - August 10, 2008
Another factor
If the Cubs clinch early they might start giving some guys a little rest and get some PT for some minor leaguers.
This is a must win as well tonight for the Cardinals. 7 out with 44 to play is bad.
puckishcubsfan - August 10, 2008
Brewers Seem More Formidable
No offense, but Milwaukee has the greater potential to defeat the Cubs in a short series. So from that selfish perspective – as well as wanting to see two longtime rivals in the NLCS – I want the Cards to win the WC instead of Milwaukee. All this assuming the Cubs win the division!
CaliCub - August 10, 2008
I'm less worried
about either of those teams than I am about the newly resurgent Dodgers. They may very well be the Cubs’ first-round opponent if we win the Central, and that offense of theirs is looking pretty good…
Goodie1969 - August 10, 2008
Time Will Tell
Some of the Dodgers’ recent success is due to Arizona stubbing their toes of late, and some of it is due to the opposition’s less-than-stellar pitching (Cards, Giants). Will be interested to see how LA’s offense does in the upcoming Phillies series, as Philly has gotten good pitching of late.
CaliCub - August 10, 2008
A team should always try to win
The Cubs would look mighty stupid “letting” the Brewers get in and then losing the NLCS to them. I realize that you’re not suggesting the Cubs do that, however.
To answer your question, I’d rather the Cardinals got in. Like CaliCub says above, the Brewers seem to have a stronger team. If the Cubs get to the NLCS, whoever they will play will be deserving to be there, but I think Milwaukee has a stronger team this year.
Shanghai Badger - August 10, 2008
I've been more concerned by the redbirds all season
w/ your defense and manager, (and the exception of yesterday) they’re going to be close games.
halfblindcubbiegirl - August 10, 2008
that picture with Sorinao about to embrace Blanco
is now my desktop.
drewishdrewid - August 10, 2008
Its part of my screensaver.
I love Fonzie.
halfblindcubbiegirl - August 10, 2008
I really should go back through all the threads
and get all the best pictures and put them into a screen saver. All of Santo’s pics, for example…
drewishdrewid - August 10, 2008
i try to save my favorites as we go.
But going back through the threads would probably be a good way to kill some time if you’re bored.
halfblindcubbiegirl - August 10, 2008
Idea
How about having Jim Hendry call his good friend on the south side and offering Marquis?
Do you think Jason would clear waivers?
It might be a good time to do it for the time the Twins are ahead of them because doesn’t waivers go by team record?
puckishcubsfan - August 10, 2008
I 'm sure Marquis has already cleared waivers.
For the moment, the White Sox have Horacio Ramirez. I’m not convinced that’s a good idea, but whatever.
cwyers - August 10, 2008
Supposedly, Sox are after Jarrod Washburn.
They can have him.
Al Yellon - August 10, 2008
The Ms should have traded him to the Yankees when they had the chance.
Sure, it would’ve meant taking on Kei Igawa, but he’s a guy that could probably fill out the back of a rotation or a swingman spot with a change of scenery. (And the Mariners apparently don’t have qualms about overpaying Japanese superstars on the decline, so he’s a good fit for them.)
cwyers - August 10, 2008
Why would you want to give up Marquis now?
It’s easy to say that Sean Marshall would be a better #5 starter (maybe he would be), but you have just crossed one more pitcher off of your depth chart as you would only get minor leaguers in return. Given Harden’s history, we need some insurance for him and that insurance cannot be Donald Veal. Gaudin can’t be Harden’s insurance, because we need him as insurance against Wood getting hurt, Marmol losing his slider, Howry continuing his meltdown, or Spellcheck remembering that he is a rookie.
If the Cubs re-sign Dempster and pick up Harden’s option in the off-season, then I think Marquis will be traded.
DeRoMyHero - August 10, 2008
Yesterday
Will someone tell those 2 bozos calling yesterday’s game that the Cubs were the team entering the game with a 6 game lead?
And where did I miss where Tony LaRussa also cured cancer and created world peace. They were talking about him like he was God.
puckishcubsfan - August 10, 2008
Fox guys arent very good....
but they are better than the ESPN crew that will be calling tonights game. I am happy that tonight I will be listening to it on the radio.
Madison Cub Fan - August 10, 2008
You don't want to hear perfect pronunciation of Latin players names?
And made up stories from a bitter former player who can’t fathom that somebody else is in the Hall of Fame at HIS position?
nji232 - August 10, 2008
I didn't think they were that bad
If you’re expecting national announcers to be overtly rooting for “your” team, you will always be disappointed or think they’re pulling for the other team.
I thought they were objective and fair.
For what it’s worth, I think Eric Karros really would like to see the Cubs win because of how much fun he had being a Cub in 2003—and he was part of the broadcast team yesterday.
Shanghai Badger - August 10, 2008
Keep The TV Volume Down
and listen to the radio PBP.
CaliCub - August 10, 2008
I think Karros is pretty decent as a color guy
JohnM - August 10, 2008
Just one
of those days yesterday. Sometimes teams get hot and hit everything they see on a given day. Win today and we still take two out of three.
Dick Stockton did seem lost calling the game yesterday. I used to really like him when he called NBA games for CBS. Seemed like a fish out of water yesterday. Of course, nothing could have made that game pleasurable to watch.
qccub - August 10, 2008
Hopefully
the boys show more tonight than they did yesterday. Talk about looking flat and lifeless, after the third.
Anyone know if tonight’s game on XM has Pat and Ron? If I gotta watch ESPN, I’d just as soon avoid the regular TV guys, in lieu of listening (hopefully) to the WGN broadcast on XM. Of course, yesterday, I thought I’d get WGN on XM, and was “treated” instead to ESPN radio pbp.
DWChaney - August 10, 2008
XM should have the home announcers, but may very well have ESPN (like they did yesterday)
as they sometimes choose national feeds over home feeds. It will not be the StL feed. It will either be Pat & Ron or ESPN Radio. My guess is it will be ESPN Radio guys.
LAcarl519 - August 10, 2008
Love the pics Al
Especially the Edmonds Curtain Call. Who would’ve thought…a curtain call for Jim Edmonds at Wrigley Field? I love it. Anyways, I’m looking to go to tonight’s rubber match. I’m just trying to determine how much I’m willing to be ripped off.
