I took in my first Cubs games last week and ran into Sean walking to the Chicago History Museum. I was walking across the street and he was standing near the corner talking to someone sipping on what looked like a iced coffee. I said “Hey, you’re Sean Marshal”. He said “Yep”. I stood and talked to him for about 10 minutes. We talked mostly about where I was from and what I had seen in Chicago up to that point. It was like talking to a friend. He was a great, great guy to talk to. I am a True Sean Marshall fan after that.
if I remember correctly. Remember, the wall height is set for football, so the dugout roof just goes on top of the wall. Around the dugout they have extension of plush seats, making the wall lower
He had the same thing happen in 2004 — a bunch of throwing errors from 3B because he was trying to play with a sore arm.
BTW, the reason he gave up pitching after HS was because his arm didn’t recover very well after pitching — so having arm problems from time to time is not new for him.
Ever since I got here last night all I saw was joggers, joggers, joggers. Kept thinking, sheesh, these Southern Californians like to jog. Got to the hotel and discovered there’s a huge fitness expo and a half marathon tomorrow. Prolly after that it’ll be walkers, walkers, walkers, lol!
Runners on second and third, runner on second breaks for first base, catcher throws him out, runner on third scores. Sometimes the catcher will wise up and conceed the base, but sometimes the excitement gets the best of him.

He gave me his autograph before a Cubs game at Minute Maid a few years back
in 2006 :)
sanantonecub - August 16, 2008
He sames pretty cool
when I was at the Cubs Nats game i sat right behind the bullpen and he the game was over he tossed a play up to me, pretty cool
brownbuddha - August 16, 2008
wooo!
lead-off walk!
nolacubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
Ball 4
Galvan316 - August 16, 2008
Did Fonz just WALK?
Someone pinch me. I don’t think I’m awake
sanantonecub - August 16, 2008
Sori taking a lead off walk
did anyone else think hell would freeze over before you saw that?
Madison Cub Fan - August 16, 2008
he walks sometimes
its not that shocking.
halfblindcubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
Pigs flying, cats and dogs living together....yeah
carmen_fanzone - August 16, 2008
Cubs winning 9 straight on the road?
sanantonecub - August 16, 2008
Gotta love Fonz's patience.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
Whoa.
that was a nice pickoff move.
halfblindcubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
dont get picked off sori!!
nolacubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
Oops
carmen_fanzone - August 16, 2008
ggrrr!!
way to blow it
nolacubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
Too late.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
Freakin Soriano
Picked Off. Ugh.
MrNFL - August 16, 2008
GEEE WHIZZZ!!
Galvan316 - August 16, 2008
theriotesque
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
man
that was horrible
Manny Trillo - August 16, 2008
Edmonds, Ward, Fontenot at 3-4-5
That’s…..just strange.
MrNFL - August 16, 2008
Question
If the Cubs win the division who would they play in the first round of the playoffs
the wildcard or the team with the worst record?
brownbuddha - August 16, 2008
worst record, because MIL will win the wildcard.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
If the wildcard is from their division, then they play the next team with the worst record.
Otherwise, they play the wildcard.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
That depends
If Milwaukee is the wild card, the team with the worst record.
If the wild card comes from another division, then them.
sanantonecub - August 16, 2008
It's tricky
They play the Wild Card unless the WC is from the same division (Which it will be) so they ultimately face the weakest division winner.
MrNFL - August 16, 2008
God. its a NICE MOVE
it happens. for the love of god. everyone take a dang chill pill.
halfblindcubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
TESTIFY!
Galvan316 - August 16, 2008
you just said, and I quote:
GEEE WHIZZZ!!
when Soriano got picked off.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
just irritates me
new people show up JUST to b&m about Fonzi. Or at least it seemed that way.
halfblindcubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
I think it was just because he was the first Cub to make a mistake,
not anything against him personally
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
Maybe
but when lots of new names i haven’t seen before pop up JUST to bitch about it… yeah. i get a little touchy.
halfblindcubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
i believe
i would make a comment if ANY cub got picked off first after getting a lead off walk. if it happens again this game i promise i’ll say something
nolacubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
people are allowed to show their displeasure with a pickoff.
When guys hit HR’s off Howry, do you say it was a nice swing?
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
everyone?
carmen_fanzone - August 16, 2008
Is it just me...
or are those dugouts huge?
Barkman - August 16, 2008
they are tall
if I remember correctly. Remember, the wall height is set for football, so the dugout roof just goes on top of the wall. Around the dugout they have extension of plush seats, making the wall lower
stadiumguru - August 16, 2008
also looks like a lot of room in front of the bench
Barkman - August 16, 2008
probably to offset
the distance it takes to get from top of the football wall to the 3-5 foot baseball wall. It can’t be much bigger than modern day dugouts though
stadiumguru - August 16, 2008
Sanchez looks wild.
Sori walks, and The Riot and Jimmy Ballgame give it a ride. Bummer we got nothing out of it.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
Hold 'em Sean!
sue369 - August 16, 2008
80 pitch limit.
Needs to be effective and throw strikes.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
I see Misty's hubby

sue369 - August 16, 2008

nolacubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
Time to make this comeback 36!
sanantonecub - August 16, 2008
Leadoff homer
Ugh. This better be a one time error Marshall…
MrNFL - August 16, 2008
Al, is that you?
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
and what if it's not????
sue369 - August 16, 2008
Then the Cubs will be losing by more runs.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
maybe they win
that’s why they play 9 innings
sue369 - August 16, 2008
hope they do.
but obviously it would be better if he didn’t give up any more HR. Even you must have a hard time disagreeing with that.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
I'd rather he didn't give up
another homerun tonight but I won’t lose any sleep if he does.
sue369 - August 16, 2008
so this game means nothing to you?
Obviously another HR would decrease our chances of winning.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
sackings 108
did you get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?
Madison Cub Fan - August 16, 2008
No, I was just confused by Sue's position.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
she knows our offense can do alot of good things
qujit trying to call people out about there “loyalness” its annoying
preachermancubsfan - August 16, 2008
Jesus Christ!
I want them to win but if they lose it’s not the end of the world. I’m not a ledge jumper like some.
sue369 - August 16, 2008
I'm certainly not a ledge jumper
but I’d be unhappy w/ another Marlin homerun, as I’m sure any other fan would be
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
My point was
ther is nothing any of us can do about it.
sue369 - August 16, 2008
well duh.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
take it easy guy
brownbuddha - August 16, 2008
it is early in the game he be upset
brownbuddha - August 16, 2008
its ok
we like to come from behind
nolacubbiegirl - August 16, 2008
Can't we just get 10 runs early and coast?
Better for the heart.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
Being a Cubs fan since 1957

I hope he doesn’t have a sore elbow.
DeRoMyHero - August 16, 2008
Such single-minded devotion... =)
jbau - August 16, 2008
Heroes with flaws are a problem, aren't they?
DeRoMyHero - August 16, 2008
The arm is his tragic flaw, huh
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
Only when sore...
He had the same thing happen in 2004 — a bunch of throwing errors from 3B because he was trying to play with a sore arm.
BTW, the reason he gave up pitching after HS was because his arm didn’t recover very well after pitching — so having arm problems from time to time is not new for him.
DeRoMyHero - August 16, 2008
Don't they all need one

Beautiful weather, natch.
Ever since I got here last night all I saw was joggers, joggers, joggers. Kept thinking, sheesh, these Southern Californians like to jog. Got to the hotel and discovered there’s a huge fitness expo and a half marathon tomorrow. Prolly after that it’ll be walkers, walkers, walkers, lol!

cwyers - August 16, 2008
They too can do their
part to curb global warming
love the ivy - August 16, 2008
Unless nature decides to curb it on it's own.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
Trying to emphasize the lefties.
Lefties batting .400+ against Sanchez. Also, resting DLee, and Aram only available to pinch hit.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
An experienced hitter like Sean commands a tight strike zone like that.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
until...
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
Okay, Fonzie, make amends brother!
carmen_fanzone - August 16, 2008

Reed's Johnson - August 16, 2008
Why, why, is he watching the ball???????
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
he couldn't see it, thought it was foul.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008

Reed's Johnson - August 16, 2008

allstar5449 - August 16, 2008
I wish I

sue369 - August 16, 2008

preachermancubsfan - August 16, 2008

Reed's Johnson - August 16, 2008

Emelie - August 16, 2008
yep
sue369 - August 16, 2008
truth
allstar5449 - August 16, 2008
you would be tired every time you hit the ball foul
brownbuddha - August 16, 2008
and ran
brownbuddha - August 16, 2008
agreed.
nobody runs when they think its foul, not even scrappy theriot
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
well yeah but
some foul balls are more obvious than others.
Don’t bother to TWSS… too obvious :}
Emelie - August 16, 2008
what's your opinion on the ones around Reed's Johnson?
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
i think you should start walking do the line just to be safe
brownbuddha - August 16, 2008
down the line
brownbuddha - August 16, 2008
lmao, got it. make sure your in foul territory, or you could be out if the balls touch you.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
love your name, lol
love the ivy - August 16, 2008
was he to busy admiring it before it got to him?
SouthsideCUBSfan - August 16, 2008
Bob was covering for him, couldnt find the ball lol
Reed's Johnson - August 16, 2008
things that worry me.....
When Pat says Im not sure what Sori was thinking. Strange….
I know the play had to be BAD
Madison Cub Fan - August 16, 2008
he would not have made it past 2nd any way
brownbuddha - August 16, 2008

carmen_fanzone - August 16, 2008

Wild throw for pickoff...
Fonzie to 3rd
carmen_fanzone - August 16, 2008
Nice baserunning there...
Just got in.
CubsBullsBears - August 16, 2008
He made it to 3rd, but it's an exciting night for Sori on the basepaths tonight.
Is he tempting the fates, or what?
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
emppppty out for Theriot. Bad.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
its ok...
he wont have an on-base of 1.000
preachermancubsfan - August 16, 2008
a deep fly would've been nice
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
i think lou was a little angry
preachermancubsfan - August 16, 2008
did they show him?
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
yea...
he had a look on his face like What the…
preachermancubsfan - August 16, 2008
Yeah, he was shaking his head and pursing his lips.
Never a good sign.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
Just a little.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
Wierd seeing Edmonds batting 3rd
Barkman - August 16, 2008
Walk Edmonds...
…this pitcher is horrible, let’s go!!!
carmen_fanzone - August 16, 2008
Wow
That pitch looked like a strike and the other one didnt… Makeup call?
cubsfaninatl - August 16, 2008
Remember parallax.
You’re not seeing the zone straight-up, so pitches can be difficult to track.
cwyers - August 16, 2008
Dward 3 run hr?
cubsfaninatl - August 16, 2008
I'd take a single.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
yea
allstar5449 - August 16, 2008
i'll be right back w/ that, sir
daily2b - August 16, 2008
so would I. But that Hr does sound nice
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
Uh, D-Ward

MrNFL - August 16, 2008
LMAO, keep count Daryle.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
hahaha ward
allstar5449 - August 16, 2008
Weird game tonight between Ward on that AB and Sori's running.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
told ya
funny game
daily2b - August 16, 2008
Pujols did take a 3 pitch walk last year, if you remember.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
I do
cubsfaninatl - August 16, 2008
Brenly's technically wrong.
People have stolen first base before – just from second base. It’s not allowed anymore.
cwyers - August 16, 2008
explain?
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
darn
takes a weapon away from the mgr
daily2b - August 16, 2008
really.
what was the strategy behind that.
jbau - August 16, 2008
Double steal.
Runners on second and third, runner on second breaks for first base, catcher throws him out, runner on third scores. Sometimes the catcher will wise up and conceed the base, but sometimes the excitement gets the best of him.
cwyers - August 16, 2008
interesting, I wonder what the success rate on that was.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
I'd love to see that
Emelie - August 16, 2008
They banned it.
But baseball strategy has gotten much more conservative in recent years anyway.
cwyers - August 16, 2008
when was it banned?
Madison Cub Fan - August 16, 2008
1920.
cwyers - August 16, 2008
too bad. It's a creative move.
Emelie - August 16, 2008
Weird.
Considering if the catcher just holds it, the defensive team gains an advantage.
I’d love to see the reaction on the blogs if some catcher did that. you know, if blogs existed back in the day.
jbau - August 16, 2008
stole first from second??
Emelie - August 16, 2008
He swung at ball four.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
there's that walk.
sackings108 - August 16, 2008
Ball 4!
Fear Fontenot!
MrNFL - August 16, 2008
Come on, Wonder Hamster!!
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008

MrNFL - August 16, 2008

sackings108 - August 16, 2008
Ugh...Can't buy a hit
MrNFL - August 16, 2008
Hold 'em Sean!!!
sue369 - August 16, 2008
and watchout for the lead off hitter
preachermancubsfan - August 16, 2008
yes..please
sue369 - August 16, 2008
you called it.....
sue369 - August 16, 2008
Two innings in a row....
Left them loaded this inning, and second and third last inning.
Sanchez deserves to be down by about 4 runs right now.
Sometimes, when pitchers are really wild, it’s hard for the hitters to get into a rhythm.
Cubfansince1957 - August 16, 2008
yikes never bodes well
Emelie - August 16, 2008
Walk the leadoff guy....please
carmen_fanzone - August 16, 2008
should have listened to us
preachermancubsfan - August 16, 2008
sanchezs pitch count has to be high
preachermancubsfan - August 16, 2008
jump
overflow1
allstar5449 - August 16, 2008
this is so NOT funny
Madison Cub Fan - August 16, 2008
Why does Marshall
Not know how to get the first batter of an inning out?
MrNFL - August 16, 2008
double
carmen_fanzone - August 16, 2008
You do not steal on Hank White.
MrNFL - August 16, 2008
