Why not have utility players that, you know, are utile. Starters should have a set position. He was promised 2B, and that promise didn’t last 3 weeks.
DeRo has said that he doesn’t like playing OF. Why was he playing OF when Sori was hurt and Murton was anchoring the bench? Why not just play him at 2B and let him be a productive 2B?
Why should a hot hitter who is a fastball hitter be batting 8th where he won’t see a fastball, while a guy who is batting like a pitcher (actually, Harden’s OPS is higher for Aug.) gets “protected”?
There’s only nine spots to bat. I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t think DeRosa would suggest that he’s unahppy with batting 8th. He’s batting all over the order, and doing very well.
(right after the ASB) say “I hope I’m not the one who’s batting eighth”. It’s just like the OF: DeRo doesn’t like it, but he will do it without complaint. That’s why he gets walked on by Lou.
I know he’d love to bat 2nd or 5th. But it’s his ability to go anywhere and bat anywhere that makes him so valuable, and if that’s what it takes to get some rings here in Wrigley, then by all means, bat him 8th.
It’s not a demotion. It’s spreading your offense out over the entire lineup.
but I dove for a liner while playing softball and my right cheek nailed the RC fielder’s knee. I just tell people I started my own Fight Club (although that breaks the first rule).
I walk out of my car (listening to game on XM) and Cubs have first and second with no outs.
I run in the house and turn on Comcast and I see Fukudome walking off and the inning is over. I guess I should have stayed in the car. Blame that inning on me.
But Harden sure looks good…so far. Let’s get some runs!!!
The guy gets rattled easy and starts getting wild and they’ve basically bailed him out. This is the team we all fear will show up in playoffs ROUND 1. C’mon guys, get harden a couple runs that is all he needs
I’ve noticed Cueto and Sabathia wear their hats kinda cockeyed, crooked, not centered square with their foreheads. Am I just overly anal retentive, or is that kind of… odd.
how great it is that Dome hasn’t let his awful offensive performance (I seriously can’t remember the last time he came through with a a) clutch RBI hit 2) two-out RBI hit) affect his fielding I will lose it. No one cares. Reed Johnson would do just fine out there, and maybe actually get a hit now and then.

chitownhawkeye - August 19, 2008
OK, This is my rant for tonight: Why is DeRo batting 8th?
Lou’s excuse for not batting him #2 is that he is good at driving in runs. Dome isn’t getting on base, so who is DeRo going to drive in?
Let Dome bat 8th if he’s just going to play for his glove.
DeRoMyHero - August 19, 2008
He gets on base for Soriano
nji232 - August 19, 2008
Nice explanation,
but why does Lou say the opposite?
DeRoMyHero - August 19, 2008
He may actually be trying to get Dome some better pitches as well
For the record I would like to se DeRo bat second as well.
nji232 - August 19, 2008
Lou is managing the team with the best record in MLB....
the offense is at or near the top of just about every offensive catagory…I trust him.
santoswoodenlegs - August 19, 2008
Sorry, I'm just sick of seeing him screw DeRo every chance he gets.
I wish DeRo would complain once in a while, just so that Lou would stop treating him like a dog.
DeRoMyHero - August 19, 2008
What the hell are you talking about? Screw DeRo? Treating him like a dog?
Kinda over the top…if you ask me. And you didn’t.
santoswoodenlegs - August 19, 2008
Why does he always have to move?
Why not have utility players that, you know, are utile. Starters should have a set position. He was promised 2B, and that promise didn’t last 3 weeks.
DeRo has said that he doesn’t like playing OF. Why was he playing OF when Sori was hurt and Murton was anchoring the bench? Why not just play him at 2B and let him be a productive 2B?
DeRoMyHero - August 19, 2008
dunno if I'd say it was to
screw him. DeRosa is just that guy where, well, he’s gotta go somewhere. Lou knows he can put him almost anywhere.
Dood plays MLB baseball for the best team in the MLB. I don’t think he thinks he’s getting screwed.
drewishdrewid - August 19, 2008
DeRo has a 1.095 OPS for Aug.
Dome has a .429 — yes, that is his OPS for Aug.
Why should a hot hitter who is a fastball hitter be batting 8th where he won’t see a fastball, while a guy who is batting like a pitcher (actually, Harden’s OPS is higher for Aug.) gets “protected”?
DeRoMyHero - August 19, 2008
Because Lou
knows that DeRo can make lemonade from lemons, and Dome needs more opportunities?
drewishdrewid - August 19, 2008
Then you might as well bat DeRo 9th.
DeRoMyHero - August 19, 2008
Cards and Brewers style
brownbuddha - August 19, 2008
that would give Sori
RBI opportunities.
There’s only nine spots to bat. I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t think DeRosa would suggest that he’s unahppy with batting 8th. He’s batting all over the order, and doing very well.
drewishdrewid - August 19, 2008
Actually, I heard him on one interview
(right after the ASB) say “I hope I’m not the one who’s batting eighth”. It’s just like the OF: DeRo doesn’t like it, but he will do it without complaint. That’s why he gets walked on by Lou.
DeRoMyHero - August 19, 2008
DeRosa is just about my favorite player
I know he’d love to bat 2nd or 5th. But it’s his ability to go anywhere and bat anywhere that makes him so valuable, and if that’s what it takes to get some rings here in Wrigley, then by all means, bat him 8th.
It’s not a demotion. It’s spreading your offense out over the entire lineup.

nji232 - August 19, 2008
yep. he's fully aware of his bunting insufficiencies
remember his first time bunting? He looked into the dugout as if to say, “OOOKaaay…. heeereee goooes.:”
Emelie - August 19, 2008
He played OF from little league all through high school I believe, so you would think...
Then again, he’s a career ALer and the A’s don’t believe in bunts, so maybe that erased them from his memory.
schmifty - August 19, 2008
BAD HARDEN!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - August 19, 2008

Reminds me of the entire 06 season
Employee22 - August 19, 2008
I think we can call that half innning a tribute to Dusty
.Now can we get back to Cubs version 2008!
LAcarl519 - August 19, 2008
Letting Cueto off the hook
The guy gets rattled easy and starts getting wild and they’ve basically bailed him out. This is the team we all fear will show up in playoffs ROUND 1. C’mon guys, get harden a couple runs that is all he needs
BeltwayCubsFan - August 19, 2008
100% agreed Lou will prolly had some words with both of them already
nji232 - August 19, 2008
There have been way too many base running issues recently
chitownhawkeye - August 19, 2008
what would be really cool
would be if I could import MLBTV into BCB and have it running in the upper right and have this thread follow below….maybe someday
Emelie - August 19, 2008

Gurbal - August 19, 2008

schmifty - August 19, 2008

Emelie - August 19, 2008
He's not struggling in the field.
I just parroted BB, but still.
jbau - August 19, 2008
Bruce fly out to right
CubsBall2202 - August 19, 2008
Dome can still play some D, I will give him that no question
nji232 - August 19, 2008
that's valuable in and of itself
but I never forgive Sori for his D in spite of his stellar O so go figure
Emelie - August 19, 2008
stupid question/comment
I’ve noticed Cueto and Sabathia wear their hats kinda cockeyed, crooked, not centered square with their foreheads. Am I just overly anal retentive, or is that kind of… odd.
DWChaney - August 19, 2008
A lot more pitchers seem to do that more these days
Just keeping up with the current fashion trends.
nji232 - August 19, 2008
The word you're looking for...
is stupid.
santoswoodenlegs - August 19, 2008
well, yes. that was the word I started with
DWChaney - August 19, 2008
odd...no
stupid…yes
preachermancubsfan - August 19, 2008
channeling their hip hop?
Emelie - August 19, 2008
They are members of that weird baseball fraternity: Kappa Kappa Skew
It used to be exclusively for LHPs, but they now admit others.
DeRoMyHero - August 19, 2008
and THAT
is why Dome is in the lineup.
drewishdrewid - August 19, 2008
Pitch count for Harden please?
Galvan316 - August 19, 2008
53
jbau - August 19, 2008
53
Clutch16 - August 19, 2008
I can handle the slump at the plate, it will come
But his D in Right is just nailz!!!!!!!
Jimsil - August 19, 2008
thank you
Galvan316 - August 19, 2008
If Brenly mentions one more time
how great it is that Dome hasn’t let his awful offensive performance (I seriously can’t remember the last time he came through with a a) clutch RBI hit 2) two-out RBI hit) affect his fielding I will lose it. No one cares. Reed Johnson would do just fine out there, and maybe actually get a hit now and then.
BeltwayCubsFan - August 19, 2008
harsh
Emelie - August 19, 2008
The florida series...
you didn’t watch?
santoswoodenlegs - August 19, 2008

drewishdrewid - August 19, 2008
Phillips flies to right to end the inning
CubsBall2202 - August 19, 2008
He was a bit more hittable that inning, but still got the job done
Could we maybe score now?
nji232 - August 19, 2008
All right then..
a little support for our pitcher, pls?
The Deputy Mayor of Rush Street - August 19, 2008
