"I have discovered in twenty years of moving around a ball park, that the knowledge of the game is usually in inverse proportion to the price of the seats." ~ Bill Veeck
I wonder if Lou is trying to create a top four in the order with a cleanup hitter and a bottom four with a second cleanup hitter just before the pitcher.
Not saying I like the lineup, but I wonder if that’s what he’s going for.
I agree. While I hate the fact that we lost to what I consider an inferior team – you gotta tip your cap to Dusty and the Reds. Their pitchers were just good enough to win, and we didn’t do enough right to win.
Fortunately, we have Z going today, and hopefully we’ll get the dominant Z who shuts the Reds down and gives us the series win.
For some reason the site is set up that way. I’ve put in a request for a feature to drop those posts from the rec list when they’re put on the front page. Until that’s done it has to stay the way it is.
I’ll be at work so I’m relying on the game thread tomorrow to hear your reports on Z’s arm slotting. Hopefully those side sessions will pay off and he’ll mow down the Reds.
The guy is a headcase, and he has proven to be in his 7 big league seasons. Absolutely no reason why he should not give up more than 2 runs. Then again, he is Z, so I would not be surprised if he gave up 10.
Helps to explain why he is not a top tier pitcher. Just a notch below.
All he’s proven to be in his 7 big league seasons is a strong, durable horse and anchor of the Cubs pitching staff. The man has a couple bad starts in a row and it’s because he’s a headcase. Please, gimme a break.
But even with a large lead in the division, you gotta sweep lowly teams like Cincy.
When a guy like Bronson Arroyo throws a gem against you, in your own park, anyone can do it.
Was probably 3 years ago or so that Josh Fogg owned the Cubs. I believe he finished the 2005 season against the Cubs something like 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA. He is God-awful now, but again, if Arroyo can do it, why not Fogg?
I can understand a turd performance against Cincy in Cincy, but not at home.
Good quote
Are we sick of talking about this game yet?

What kind of moron
Bats Soto in front of the pitcher?

I had a thought about this...

Bottom of 4th Was A Killer
1st and 3rd, no outs, and they don’t score. Sheeeesh.
CaliCub - August 20, 2008
no doubt, that was tonight's "game changer" as BB likes to say.
LAcarl519 - August 20, 2008
I understand DOME plays great defense . . .
But do you think we’d lose much with Reed Johnson in right? And if not, why not give Fukudome an extended rest . . . like two or three games
TheRiot02 - August 20, 2008
On the positive side
Tonight’s game sucked but
1) Our bullpen wasn’t taxed
2) Can still take the series with a W tomorrow
3) Still have a 5 game lead
sweetswinger - August 20, 2008
exactly
sue369 - August 20, 2008
And 6 in the loss column . . .
Which is what really matters
TheRiot02 - August 20, 2008
Fair enough

I missed seeing Milton tonight
especially after seeing all the amazing things about him in that fanpost. Makes him even more intriguing!
love the ivy - August 20, 2008
it's gonna drop off the recommended list
when Josh puts up his minor league recap, and it gets it’s recommendations…
I should archive the page or something.
drewishdrewid - August 20, 2008
Now that the Minor League Recap is on the main page....
…it seems redundant to put it in the Recommended Fanposts. Can this be changed?
NotSure - August 20, 2008
I asked about that.
For some reason the site is set up that way. I’ve put in a request for a feature to drop those posts from the rec list when they’re put on the front page. Until that’s done it has to stay the way it is.

Thanks for the info....

I find Milton is more interesting
than the Most Interesting Man in the World™ – you know, that dude in the Dos Equis commercials.
DWChaney - August 21, 2008
we're such fans
we even have post-loss threads.
drewishdrewid - August 20, 2008
Did we win? What happened?
santoswoodenlegs - August 20, 2008
Go back to sleep
it was just a bad dream
sue369 - August 20, 2008
I'm glad tomorrow is a day game.
The sooner I can forget this one and watch the Cubs win tomorrow, the better. Isn’t Z on the bump tomorrow?
DeRoMyHero - August 20, 2008
yes
sue369 - August 20, 2008
hey, lookit
Blue-Mike’s post about night-games got deleted?
I’m gonna miss him…
drewishdrewid - August 20, 2008
I was considering posting odds on that
It wasn’t just him, though — there was a LOT of ugliness in there.
Shanghai Badger - August 20, 2008
true dat
but that pound sand comment is probably what did it. Unintentionally brilliant tho it was…
drewishdrewid - August 20, 2008
I wonder if he took it down
Al was at the game, and it was still up then
Shanghai Badger - August 20, 2008
possibly.
although that would show an awful lot of maturity. :D
drewishdrewid - August 20, 2008
Yes . . .
But it’d be pretty fast for Al to get home and do it.
I knew it’d be gone one way or another, though.
Shanghai Badger - August 20, 2008
I took it down.
That was absolutely ridiculous, and everyone who took part in it should be ashamed.
I haven’t seen anything like that with the personal attacks in a long time.
Let’s all try to grow up a little, shall we? I’m going to sleep. Recap in the morning.
Al Yellon - August 20, 2008
Just like to mention that I didn't post in that one . . .
I did read it, though. Yeah, it was bad.
Shanghai Badger - August 20, 2008
hey now
I just said hi to Mikey! I’m not ashamed of that.
mambochicken23 - August 21, 2008
Where's Tarbox to assuage the pain of this loss?
santoswoodenlegs - August 20, 2008
Where's Flag Up to tell us the Brewers won?

The people doing beach volleyball just had about 6 comments
That deserved TWSS’s! My poor brain can’t process that many TWSS’s in one bit of commentary!

I think the IOC should force the men's beach volleyball teams to wear the same uniforms as the women.
santoswoodenlegs - August 20, 2008
Or the women wear the same as the men?
Shanghai Badger - August 20, 2008
never. say. that. again.
joeschmitt - August 21, 2008
how come
the men’s team didn’t ask George W. to slap THEIR butts?

Z's Arm Slot
I’ll be at work so I’m relying on the game thread tomorrow to hear your reports on Z’s arm slotting. Hopefully those side sessions will pay off and he’ll mow down the Reds.

watching Z’s arm slot with my binoculars. Who should I call if it’s out of whack?

a difficult month for Z every year. I’m sure he’ll rebound and get back to his Ace form soon.

Soriano was not hustling to try and get to that ball.
Itchy - August 20, 2008
Yeah, I have to agree that he could in general hustle a little more....
…that was a critical play.
NotSure - August 20, 2008

there’s no way he gets to that ball. Stop this idiocy.

Um...
… Gibson did it over a full season with 304 innings and nine CG shutouts.
Samardzija is off to a nice start in his career, but he’s got a long way to go before any Gibson comparisons.
