I didn’t hear who he gave it to. But if he decided that Gaudin didn’t pitch well enough to deserve the win he could give it to someone else. It isn’t done often but it is within his power. I’m not sure of he decision he made.
to root for a team with a pinch penny owner who staffs his club with idiots who can’t build from within. Look at Oakland for a team that has a small budget and still is competitive.
First person to high-five him in the dugout was Edmonds. Shows just how much of a team this is. Guy has your job half the time and you can don’t give it a second thought.

Horace, are you a Brewers fan? Because I can see how a brewers troll would be more motivated than a Pirates troll, since the Brewers are contending. (And since you signed up the Brewers blog and not the Pirates one.)
Thanks for letting us borrow your park for the week though, we know your team can’t use it properly. Enjoy sheets and sabathia for 2 more months though, seriously.
Good game to all. Nice to see another team win, and nice to see Z and Shark and Marmol look nasty. I feel good about where we are right now. Have a good night, all.
I would say you are seeing our farm system developed in front of your eyes. Riot, Marmol, Soto, Z, Fontenot. The Brewers system is farther behind in development.
We definitely have superior farm pitching. Couple of elite guys. I don’t think they have a guy with the potential of Vitters. Gamel’s got nothing on Vitters.
This is a strange road to put us on, but I recently saw the Sosa homer from game 1 of the NLCS. You can hear the radio booth going nuts on the TV. and that is all I have to say about that.
How soon til the media boobs start a closer controversey?
They’re already having a grand time being as stupid as possible on the QB controversey with the Bears. (wouldn’t it be nice if the guys in that one were even half as good as Marmol and Wood comparitvely?)
He talked about how he thinks everything happens for a reason. Had he not hurt his back he would like still be a bluejay and the Cubs are by far the best team he’s ever been on.
this one would be tough to lose

Just before Reed Johnson came up to the plate, I was about to post that
Sean Burnett (who had just come into the game) was 0-1 with a 4.25 ERA and he should be hittable.
Well, I guess he was indeed pretty hittable.
zevkalman - August 3, 2008
One out!
nji232 - August 3, 2008
How many guys have had big, late-inning HRs this year?
DeRo against the Rockies
RJ today
Ramy has a walk-off
Sori’s hit a couple
I’m sure I’ve missed some…
It’s a different guy every day, that’s what makes this a team.
DeRoMyHero - August 3, 2008
exactly, we don't have to sit around and wait for a Pujols or a Ortiz to come up
nji232 - August 3, 2008
I just watched that Rockies comeback game on TiVo today....
Hank White with 2 run shot, JEdmonds with homer and Double, and DeRo with the game winner, all in the 6th and 7th innings…
Also, Eyre was really good in that game. Every day is a new hero…one guy fails, someone else picks him up….a special, special team…

LT - August 3, 2008
though Z did not get the win, this was a nice MoJo builder.
this team just has a lot of character!
LAcarl519 - August 3, 2008
The scorer could give the win to Z
as neither Cotts or Gaudin deserved it. Most likely it should go to The Shark. It is his decision.
bubbamike the one and only - August 3, 2008
Wha?
Isn’t it Gaudin W and Marmol S?
dtpollitt - August 3, 2008
Up to the official Scorer.
I didn’t hear who he gave it to. But if he decided that Gaudin didn’t pitch well enough to deserve the win he could give it to someone else. It isn’t done often but it is within his power. I’m not sure of he decision he made.
bubbamike the one and only - August 3, 2008
That's really rare...
but I see your point..
Bump Bailey - August 3, 2008
This is not an official scorer's decision
Gaudin gets the W because he was the pitcher of record when the winning run scored
flachimesa - August 3, 2008
No. Gaudin was the pitcher of record.
Gaudin was the pitcher of record when the Cubs took the lead. He vultured the win.
Ross - August 3, 2008
No, I think it has to go to Gaudin.
He was the “pitcher of record” when RJ hit the HR.
DeRoMyHero - August 3, 2008
Correct. No discretion to scorer
(except when starter goes less than 5 and the team was up the whole time)
LAcarl519 - August 3, 2008

That is just crazy…

puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
And ramirez and lee, sort of
I regard huge extensions for guys you traded for to be essentially the same.

Homegrown talent built around some big free agents

DeRoMyHero - August 3, 2008
Boo MLB.TV
Changes needed:
-Pre and post game shows
-Choice of home/away feeds
-Highlight clips – no need to edit them so brutally. For a home run clip, don’t start it right when the pitch is delivered. Build up to it for 10 or 20 seconds – provide some context!
-Leave camera on field between innings instead of showing the same promos 50 times per game and/or a staionary MLB.TV logo for 90 seconds. And no, don’t start showing ads.

Samardzija and Howry
Does anyone else think every time Jeff goes out there he’s nailing another nail in Howry’s coffin?
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
Howry has his own nails and hammer.
bubbamike the one and only - August 3, 2008
But we needed
But we needed a person to do the hammering and nailing.
If Jeff gets a few more good ones in before Kerry returns I think Howry will be told to take a later bus when Kerry’s activated.
Does anyone think playing in front of 100,000 at Notre Dame helps him deal with the pressure?
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
If Samardzjia keep this up, he's locking down 7th inning duties...

Hey LaPorta is on the US Olympic team
Oh…forgot…he’s no longer a Brewer
flachimesa - August 3, 2008
CC
I think the actress who played CC on The Nanny is as likely to pitch for the Brewers as CC Sabathia next year.
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
Haha. You're a funny one.
Who plays first when Fielder bolts?
Sorry Ned screwed up Gallardo’s knee.
ARAM FOR MVP - August 3, 2008
Really Dyson? Will Melvin be the GM of the Dodgers then?
Ross - August 3, 2008
good joke, the brewers will never win a bidding war, and the way our 26th man Ned Yost
is abusing his arm, he should be pretty useless come next year, if he’s able to pitch at all
CubsBall2202 - August 3, 2008
More likely to sign
Matt Clement.
bubbamike the one and only - August 3, 2008
CC
loves milwaukee already.
horace tarbox - August 3, 2008
Too bad he can't beat the only good team he has faced
Who has he beaten? rockies, braves, weak cardinal offense, reds. But when he faces the cubs he wilts
CubsBall2202 - August 3, 2008
Dyson, you are begging...
The only CC you might have in your rotation next year is Chris Capuano.
Ross - August 3, 2008
sweep!
LT - August 3, 2008
Is it because he gets to sleep with his boy Prince?
ARAM FOR MVP - August 3, 2008
We all love Brats
and bad beer. Isn’t that what Milwaukee is famous for?
bubbamike the one and only - August 3, 2008
and being chicago's playground
CubsBall2202 - August 3, 2008
Feel bad
Feel bad for Brewers fans. Not only did their team lose 5 games in the standings in 7 days but at the end of the day they still live in Milwaukee.
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
Well
Well theres a lot of sausage there and guessing by his size he probably likes sausage a lot.
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
I'm sure he had a great time on monday
and an even better time the rest of that series.
nji232 - August 3, 2008
too bad
we have a far superior farm system
horace tarbox - August 3, 2008
too bad we have a far superior major league team
CubsBall2202 - August 3, 2008
And a better GM
And a better GM and Manager.
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
Dyson, Congrats on those A, AA, and AAA championships your affiliates might win...
It will more than make up for the Brew Crew finishing third.
Ross - August 3, 2008
Your running out of things to say
I would say you are seeing our farm system developed in front of your eyes. Riot, Marmol, Soto, Z, Fontenot. The Brewers system is farther behind in development.
nji232 - August 3, 2008
Horace, from reading your posts, you're a .22 caliber mind....
in a .357 magnum world.
Cubfansince1957 - August 3, 2008
lol!
slcathena - August 3, 2008
isn't your AAA team about 15-20 games behind the Iowa Cubs?
but who is counting?
...do we have any parting gifts for this poor soul?
LAcarl519 - August 3, 2008
Our farm system won't be too far behind.
We definitely have superior farm pitching. Couple of elite guys. I don’t think they have a guy with the potential of Vitters. Gamel’s got nothing on Vitters.
ARAM FOR MVP - August 3, 2008
People we've had one of the best weeks of being a Cubs fan
and the best you can do is argue with troll. Lets enjoy the moment…....... these weekks don’t come around very often!!!!
Madison Cub Fan - August 3, 2008
AMEN
Goodie1969 - August 3, 2008
Agree
I’m having fun toiling with the troll but agree on the great week.
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
I am enjoying it too.
Though he is pretty weak…
Ross - August 3, 2008
I like to argue with trolls
nji232 - August 3, 2008
nij232 when is the last week you enjoyed cubs baseball this much
mine would be winning the series to get th NLCS.
Madison Cub Fan - August 3, 2008
2-3-4 of the NLCS no question
nji232 - August 3, 2008
prolly right..
I tend to block out the NLCS all together. LOL
Madison Cub Fan - August 3, 2008
Funny that you bring that up
This is a strange road to put us on, but I recently saw the Sosa homer from game 1 of the NLCS. You can hear the radio booth going nuts on the TV. and that is all I have to say about that.
nji232 - August 3, 2008
It's been an awesome
week and I hope it continues for many more weeks to come.
sue369 - August 3, 2008
+1
and that Z, Harden, Demp, and Lilly are healthy for the playoffs…
Bump Bailey - August 3, 2008
bump
hows your reading going?
Madison Cub Fan - August 3, 2008
Finished Moneyball for the 2nd time...
and getting into 3 Nights In August now. How about you?
Bump Bailey - August 3, 2008
I read the first 20 pages online of It's Good to be Alive by Roy Campanella
I have reserved at library. It seems awesome.
Madison Cub Fan - August 3, 2008
Oh I hope they are
sue369 - August 3, 2008
This is getting Silly
we’ll see what happens in September and October. Otherwise it is a lot of hot air and we have enough global warming going on from Bullshit.
bubbamike the one and only - August 3, 2008
yep agreeing w/ bubba
Madison Cub Fan - August 3, 2008
Ta Ta for now.
Go Cubs Go!
bubbamike the one and only - August 3, 2008
And
And today the Sox fell out of first place.
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
They will be back
That being said the Twins finally got a clue and brought up their best pitcher.
nji232 - August 3, 2008
Best thing
Best thing was on tv Mariotti was predicting the Sox would stay and build a lead while the Cubs fell on their butts.
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
What a shocker. He said the opposite of what everybody else was thinking.
nji232 - August 3, 2008
Frosting on the cake.
Sorry if I got heated up by the troll. I bit on all the juvenile stuff. Ignoring him is probably the best policy.
Cubfansince1957 - August 3, 2008
That's the beauty of the Cubs having such a great team...
I hadn’t even noticed!
Goodie1969 - August 3, 2008
How soon
How soon til the media boobs start a closer controversey?
They’re already having a grand time being as stupid as possible on the QB controversey with the Bears. (wouldn’t it be nice if the guys in that one were even half as good as Marmol and Wood comparitvely?)
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
I'm sure Lou will just flip a coin
nji232 - August 3, 2008
Just looking at Reed
makes me smile. He and Jimmy have both brought so much to this team. This team seems to have such good chemistry too. Gawd, I love it.
sue369 - August 3, 2008
Agree
+1
puckishcubsfan - August 3, 2008
Yes I love
Yes I love this team too
LT - August 3, 2008
TWSS
santo4hof - August 3, 2008
lol
sue369 - August 3, 2008
Bwhhahhhhhaaaaaaa
Bump Bailey - August 3, 2008
Listening to Reed on radio
He talked about how he thinks everything happens for a reason. Had he not hurt his back he would like still be a bluejay and the Cubs are by far the best team he’s ever been on.
Madison Cub Fan - August 3, 2008
He has to be ecstatic....
...that he’s playing on grass instead of the turf. Look at what it did for Dawson…
NotSure - August 3, 2008
I'm not surprised
he got a standing ovation in his first AB when we played in Toronto. What’s not to love about the guy?
Goodie1969 - August 3, 2008
Time for me to go. See you all tomorrow.
Cubfansince1957 - August 3, 2008
I will have a Cardinals vs Phillies Sunday Night Baseball
Game Thread tonight given the race is now starting to heat up somewhat.
So if you’d like catch the game stop if have a laugh or two and watch and blog the Phillies vs Cards Tilt
Galvan316 - August 3, 2008
great idea!
I’ll be there. :)
slcathena - August 3, 2008
I hate when WGN has the games...
their postgame is like 5 minutes long, and now it’s freakin’ Will & Grace! I miss Plesac and his Big Blue Train!
Goodie1969 - August 3, 2008
can you get 720 ?
they are having post game… but they are going to take callers. I think they screen to get people saying nasty things lol
PS I HATE Will and Grace. It would rate as one of my lease favorite shows.
Madison Cub Fan - August 3, 2008
Yeah I get 720
but it’s more fun to watch the video highlights. Although hearing Ron go nuts is pretty entertaining…
