who the hell is going to play

SHORT???

Fontenot or DeRosa?
DeRosa or Fontenot.

I’m so excited I came to the game thread!

Mark DeRosa

for the first time in 2008.

Hell, why not...

He’s done just about anything else they’ve asked of him….

That first play looked pretty good.

I said it in the last thread...

DeRo is a natural SS, light-years better than Riot.

Lou only plays Riot at SS because he couldn’t justify playing that bat anywhere else.

Will This Be ESPN's Headline In Mid-October?

“Theriot’s Error Puts Brewers In World Series”

I wouldn't have thought you are right until I saw DeRo's throw to first just now.

Indeed, he might be a better defensive SS than Theriot.

Let me say it this way...

There was a time in 2002 when Bobby Cox regarded DeRo’s glove at SS so highly that he moved Furcal to 2B so that DeRo could play SS.

He lacks GG range, but he has everything else a SS needs — strong arm, range on popups (more important in front of Sori than Dome), and great footwork on the pivot.

and there's his first successful play

at short in 2008.

The Godfather of Scrappiness Is A D'Back

David Eckstein got picked up by Arizona.

That Hobbit can burn in the hell that is PHX for all eternity for all I care

not that I’m angry or anything…….

Phx May Be Hell...

…but Mesa is Heaven. :-)

only in the Springtime...only in the Spring.
Flagstaff is heaven May-September

Mesa only gets the role from October to April

Flagstaff is to Phoenix as...

Carbondale is to Chicago….

I like Mesa...just not the heat

My first introduction to AZ was in August. I got out of the car in Flag and it was gorgeous. I got out again in Mesa, and I wondered who left the oven door open.

Hoo Boy, Cotts Is Flatter Than A Runway Model
I wonder when the Cotts experiment will be over.
Please take note:

I severely loathe Cotts

Hey, The Ump Says It's 0-2
Was that Murton on the bleacher shot?
I swear that's Matt Murton in a fuku t-shirt talking up a trixie out there
Trixies Go Where The $$$ Is

So I hope Matt has saved his money.

that must have been Epsilon Delta Omicron's little sister

she was not exactly Trixie material

It's Time To Light Up Lidge
Fook with the shoestring!
Let's remind Lidge why he was traded

FU-KU-DO-ME!!

DE-FENSE

ugly rally cap section

do we have to go over this, it’s inside out, not halfways on the dome, backwards or any such nonsense.

Not Good To Hit Pop-Ups

when 2 runs down.

They didn't hear you.

and when 2 outs are on the board in the bottom of the ninth
or any other time
how many flipping times is DLee gonna pop out on the first pitch?

gosh-darn

The afternoon shade has come over the batter now....will be hard to see the

ball coming out of the pitcher’s hand in the sun.

I'm sure Lou

wants to hear that as an excuse

Some key soriano stats...

What does several million dollars buy you?
Late innings/close games 6-34, 3RBI, .176 ave, .243 OBP
Two outs in the inning 26-102, 18 RBI .255 ave, .350 OBP
Behind in the count 27-141, 22 RBI, .191 Ave, .194 OBP
AB behind in the count – 141. Ahead in the count 87

Call Kaplan with these stats

and let him tell you you’re not a real Cub fan.

cherrypick all you want

he helps this team win games. This is a team loss today.

Traverse City Has Good Cherry Picking

I’m just sayin’….

any chance for a three run homer here?

jesus, do you hear me?

LETS GO CUBBIES

clap clap
clapclapclap

Jeepers

what a disappointing couple of days

oh well, let’s kick the Jetson’s dog tomorrow

No, Len

It wasn’t a very tough part of the Cubs’ order.

Poor Approach In The 9th

Don’t think Lidge threw more than 10 pitches.

First split series in how long?
could this be the Beginning Of The End?

The Curse is catching up to us ..

don't make me pull this car over.....
I Knew It Was Too Good To Be True

If only those Trixies paid more attention!

Jeez, guys. Drop a couple of games and what, its the end of the world?
No Curse, Just A Bad Offensive Approach

compounded by the umpires making it up as they went along.

No,

They’ll be fine. It just doesn’t bode well for facing tough pitching in the playoffs.

Not To Be A Sore Loser

but the Cubs lost the past two days more than the Phillies won. Once the Cubs start taking their walks and stop overswinging (like they did against CC and Sheets up in Milwaukee last month), they can handled anyone’s pitching just fine.

this is patently ridiculous...

and offensive

Yikes

Somebody page the Cub offense. It’s needed.

there was offense .. it just didn't stay consistent
cool your jets

and off that ledge

on to yew-sten
least the redbirds lost
Cubs Seemed Frustrated The Past Couple Days

Like they were thinking “How dare the Phillies play us so tough?” Then when they tried to turn it on, they ended up pressing and having lots of panicky defensive at-bats.

Disagree

it had nothing to do with being surprised by competition, but more to do with not getting the big hits. Look, they left 9 on yesterday and had what, 12 hits, today? It’s 2 games, shockingly, it doesn’t all fall into place e veryday.

Frankly, I’ll take this Cubs teams chances with 2 outs against Jayson Werth 160 more games. Dude got white-hot, it happens.

Agree - No Big Hits

And what made it worse is that they tried to force getting the big hit, which just makes things worse.

I'll agree with losing patience

compounding the problem was the fact that it was a couple runs each time – nothing insurmountable if they stay patient. They didn’t and they lost.

Hopefully, the team will look at that, realize they didn’t show the hitting patience they’ve displayed all year, and regroup.

Color me not worried.

And when they don't get those hits

it just exaggerates any deficiencies in the bullpen (although Howry actually wasn’t that bad these last two games). The pitchers think they have to be perfect.

we answer tommorrow by feeding on the carrion of the Central
Carrion

my wayward son.

or they feast upon us .. sleep well on the plane, o Cubs
This puts the Philips past STL in the Wild Card now, yes?
well, back to the research .. nice spending the afternoon with you, Cub Nation

keep the faith .. we will eat the Astros alive ..

and say a prayer or think a thought for Southern Louisiana

things are getting very ugly down there

Puts a baseball game in perspective. Thanks.
Nagin Said "You're On Your Own If You Stay"
As he should have

Nagin’s a tool that says remarkably stupid things, but he’s right. People aren’t being herded into the Superdome, they’ve had more than enough resources and notice to get the hell out. Crikey, they were racing today at Louisiana Downs!

Shockingly, there were some lessons learned from the Katrina debacle and many of those mistakes are not being repeated.

I'll be having a Hurricane party tomorrow
