Bleed Cubbie Blue

Rain Delay Thread: Cubs vs. Astros, Monday 8/4, 6:05 CT

Hi everyone.

We were watching the radars on our phones in the bleachers and saw lightning shows out to the west, and figured that at the first sign of rain, the game would be delayed and not resumed. So, once the field was covered, I left.

It's virtually certain they won't resume tonight, not with the heavy rain -- probably the heaviest I've seen since almost 20 years ago to the day, August 8, 1988, the day of the first scheduled night game. I believe -- and someone correct me if I'm wrong -- that after a certain period of time goes by, the game can and will be suspended and resumed at noon tomorrow. This might go to the Cubs' advantage, as they were having a lot of trouble hitting Brian Moehler, and they could send Sean Marshall out there to start the sixth as a fresh pitcher who could go three or four innings if necessary.

Stay safe, everyone, if you're in northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin or northern Indiana -- this is nasty stuff going through; tornado sirens were going off in Lakeview near Wrigley Field, the first time I can remember them going off except for test purposes.

I'll update in the morning.

UPDATED - TORNADO IN PORTER COUNTY, IN

... A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 915 PM CDT for northern
Porter and east Central Lake counties…

At 841 PM… National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate a tornado. This tornado was located near Wheeler… moving
east at 44 mph. A trained spotter reported a funnel cloud in
Griffith and measured 80 mph winds.

The tornado will be near…
Valparaiso… Lincoln Hills… Chesterton… and 7 miles south of
Porter by 850 PM…
kvpz by 855 PM…

Do not use your car to try to outrun a tornado. Cars are easily
tossed around by tornado winds. If you are caught in the path of a
tornado… leave the car and go to a strong building. If no safe
structure is nearby… seek shelter in a ditch or low spot and cover
your head.

Tornado in Elmhurst...

The Tribune is reporting a Tornado in Elmhurst earlier. I’m not too far from there and it was nasty out.

Thanks to all for the weather updates.

I’m on the north side of the city and it’s pouring rain with lots of lightning and windy, but no tornadic activity here at the moment.

scary night in Chicago

That storm that rolled through here was bad! I hope they call this a suspended game and not a rain shortened astros win. There is a precedent each way from what I can tell

Hey Al, quick question

If they do call the game on account of weather, are you sure they will resume tomorrow and not award the win to houston?

Thought they called games after 6 innings?

confused too..

is the rule 5 and a half innings? they were starting the top of the sixth, ie… had only played 5 full innings. don’t know the rule either

I think the rule was changed within the last year or two...

... to make every game that had gone at least five innings played to the full nine—if this is what I recall correctly, the game will be suspended and finished at noon tomorrow.

Rule 4.10.C

Says it is an official game after 5 innings have been completed….

What has changed recently is the rule about if the visiting team takes the lead in an inning after it is an official game, and the home team does not have a chance to answer in their portion of the inning (Rule 4.12.A.5)

ESPN

Just stated that if they cannot play tonight, it will be an Astros win.

OK...

... I was confused about when a game can be suspended or not. Guess this one can’t be.

I believe what they changed...

was that a game is suspended in these cases only if it is a tie. The rule used to be that the entire game would have to be replayed.

Didn't one get suspended in the 8th at PIT a year or two ago with the Cubs winning?
May 1, 2007

The game was suspended with a tie score. The Cubs were trailing until D.Ward launched a homer to tie it right before the delay hit. Game was resumed the next day…. this also was the game in which Fonzie had his 1st Cubs HR

Yes he waited until May 1 to hit his first HR…. but he was on the DL for the second half of April.

I'm confused too...

I thought the rule was 4 1/2 innings (or 5 if the home team was behind)
I’d love them to play on but is that what they will do?

The game

is considered complete after 5 innings played. The game can be suspended if the game is haulted during an inning in which the visiting team has taken the lead or tied the game.

Tornado Sirens Were Wailing In The West Loop.

70 mph winds. Hail. Sideways rain. Scary stuff. Everybody stay safe!

On WGN News - they played a clip from the center field scoreboard camera

with the tornado siren going off

yikes be safe everyone

hope all the wind wasn’t started by the cubs hacking tonight :(

rule is game can be called after 5 innings

Or 4.5 if the home team is winning. But I have also seen suspended games where one team was winning after 5 innings. Odd.

That only applies if the visitors score a run to take the lead

in the inning that the game was stopped. Since that’s not the case, if the game is called right now, the ‘Stros will get the win.

That can happen

if say the home team was winning 5-2 entering the top of the 6th. The visiting team takes the lead in the top of the 6th. A rain delay prevents the home team from playing the bottom of the 6th. That game is treated as a suspended game if it can’t continue.

Rule 4.12.A.5
Weather, if a regulation game is called while an inning is in progress and before the inning is completed, and the visiting team has scored one or more runs to take the lead, and the home team has not retaken the lead; or

Prince Fielder

Anyone see him get into it with Parra on the bench tonight? He had to be restrained and got a big push in that knocked Parra over.

Just came up from the cellar

and saw that after switching over from the Weather Channel. The implosion has begun…

Yeah 'cause

the Cubs really blew up last year after that Z/Barrett scuffell…

Moose

I think there's a huge difference between that and what happened tonight in the brewers dugout

because for one thing the barrett/z scuffle happened MUCH earlier in the season. For another the brewers are a YOUNG team that hasn’t dealt with much adversity. The Cubs, I don’t need to go into how much adversity they’ve gone through. They’re reminded of it every day. The 2007 and 2008 cubs have shown themselves to be resilient. The 2008 brewers have not.

the difference is

the brewers can’t get rid of parra or fielder like the cubs could with barrett…...they can’t…..yost has no control over his clubhouse, didn’t he and a player brawl last year?

Yeah

It was Johnny Estrada. That clubhouse must be a barrel o’laughs tonight.

i don't like to take joy in others sorrows

but this one makes me giggle

is there a clip?
Do Tornados happen around Chicago often?
Not really

The Chicago area as a whole gets 1-2 tornadoes a year on average (I think) – not too bad by Midwestern standards. Usually they’re mostly out in the suburbs, it’s extremely rare for a tornado to form near the lake. There’s a meteorological reason for that, but it’s too complicated for me to remember. (Ask Tom Skilling if you’re really curious.)

Tom Skilling doesn't answer my e-mails anymore
Thats not acurate

Tornadoes do form in Chicago, and the lake offers zero protection from tornadic development.

I've heard otherwise

from what I would consider to be credible sources. However, I’m not a meteorologist, so I can’t confirm the accuracy of what I’ve heard.

The Tornado that hit Oak Lawn IL in 1963

Blew right over the Stevenson Expressway and went right into Lake Michigan. And that was until 1990 the most powerful Tornado to ever hit Chicago.

Yours truly lived in Plainfield at that time

and just recently moved to Joliet (right next door). It was a bad time. Everyone who was there then doesn’t like to talk about it, and “SOP” is not to bring it up.

Sirens still get my dander up

I cant say I blame you for being

Jumpy.

The Plainfield Tornado was and still is the most powerful August tornado ever to hit the United States

There's a big black granite monument

on Ft. Beggs drive, just down from Plainfield Central High School (the new one; the old one having been destyroyed in the storm) that just three or four weeks ago had trees fall all around it from a gustnado that hit the exact same area

And the only F5...........

..........in Chicagoland’s history.

Since 1855.............

............only 92 “significant” tornadoes have been recorded in the entire metropolitan area of Chicago.

“Significant” means Level 2 or higher on the Fujita scale or a tornado that caused at least 10 injuries or one death.

The Chicago metro area includes McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage, Cook, Kendall and Will counties, as well as Lake County, Indiana.

And so, yes, tornadoes are incredibly rare in the City of Chicago.

Believe the Oak Lawn............

.............killer twister was in 1967.

Yep

I was only 7 at the time but I still remember that night….

<---- Meteorologist

Exactly, the lake offers zero protection for Chicago, since virtually all tornadoes would have to move toward the lake. Downwind of the lake may cause some storms to weaken though, due to cooler air over the lake.

NO

NO, not within the city limits.

No offense to anyone...

...but this is SOP down here in Kansas.

what is SOP?
standard operating procedure
gak

SOP might as well be a four letter word. Books of crap put together by people that don’t do my job.

same here in TN
Has the game been called yet?
Here's some video of Wrigley Field

pretty much disappearing behind tonight’s rain storm. Sirens in the background.

Wrigley Field – under the “weather”

Cool

That is pretty awesome

rtraugs:

Despite your avatar, will ask you your opinion about Fielder/Parra in peace =)

Question.

If game resumes tonight, will ESPN cover it? Also, would they cover it tomorrow at noon?

Tonight, probably yes. Tomorrow, no.
BACK FROM THE BLEACHERS

Just returned home from the bleachers.Ms. Fuk U Meter and I went to the bathroom after the fifth. For some reason I decided to take all the stuff with me. Not 5 mins later was is Armageddon outside. We stood by a wall under the bleachers for 1/2 hour, then the rain started getting inside. Then we started hearing reports about tornadoes, then the sirens went off. They went off for about 5 mins, then off for 10. They went on again and we heard the loudest thunder I have ever heard in my life.
The sirens went off again, so we took shelter in the men’s room. There were about 10 women in there at the time. Half hour later, all the restrooms were co-ed. Some teenagers were gun shy with the girls in there. Poor kids. When the rain let up Ms. Fuk U Dometer and I took a rickshaw back home and gave the guy a hearty tip. Good to be home.

Forgot to mention

Rules went out the window…everyone was smoking, especially in the bathroom. Ashes were faling on us from the ramps behind the bleachers. A fire truck went by and everyone cheered. Spoke to a Houston fan and he said: “Sure, we have a hurricane down home, and tornadoes up here. I can’t win.”

Time for a PB & J.

That’s “peanut butter and jelly” here in Illinois

oh good God

I will have that stuck in my head all night. thanks!

Get yourself one! Deeelish!

Ice cold milk and a couple of Keebler Grasshoppers (the poor man’s Thin Mints) – heaven on earth!

I originally said during the game thread that the severe weather would impact

Downtown Chicago/Wrigley Field between 8pm and 845pm

How did I do?

Hopefully pretty well, I only have about 35,000 dollars in college debt for Meteorology :)

Hey Galvan

Are you at UW? In the AOS department?

Nope

College of DuPage and Northern Illinois

Cool cool

I’ve met some people in the UW AOS dept – some of my grad work is peripherally related to the climate modeling stuff they do

espn says if the game is called, the astros win
SORRY for my brain cramp below

read you rpost too fast – glanced right over ther “if”

ESPN says

Wrigley was evacuated but officials say the game could still finish tonight..If it is not called it WILL be an official game.

Grounds crew do your thing
brewers lose

saving the pen, not a bad thing

OK, so who's right?
official game

if the tarp stays on, yewsten wins

Anyone think that this fight may cost Yost his job?
I hope not...

with him running that team, we have a much better chance of holding them off.

Probably will

I hope not though, the longer he’s in the dugout the more he helps the cubs

the fight? absolutely not

but not making the playoffs will…..HEADS WILL ROLL

You are right. Remember the fight last year? Yeah it was August 3rd and the Brewers didn’t respond then.

(As a lurking Brewer fan, I hope we do better this year!)

What's your take on Ned?

Should have been fired last year. He once again lost control.

That's pretty much my take

He seems to lose focus on the task at hand.

By the way, welcome!

I like talking to fans of other teams.

not mention talking to yourself giggle
Why?

They just need to feed Prince more often and that is the assistant managers job not the managers.

Bad form to not state my own opinion

I think if the front office was agitating to get rid of Yost already, this may be a good excuse.

But I guess there is no ready-made replacement.

not at this point in the season...imo
Ted Simmons

Already bench coach; will allow no clubhouse BS

A rain delay may have been the only thing

saving the Cubs from Brian “Cy Young” Moehler.

hopefully we never face him again

Some team should try and get him through waivers just to F us up

shut out...

by a tooth

MLB.com still has it in delay...
And ESPN TV hasn't come back yet
WCIU

also displaying a RAIN DELAY graphic in the corner of the screen. Displaying “Frasier” in lower part of screen.

I always loved that Perri Gilpin
did princess mistake parra....

for a bratwurst?

Looking at the radar

it looks like it could be outta here within half hour

Well if it lasts more than 3 hours...we should see a doctor.

HOLY CRAP that's awesome
nice

for real, nice

I just spit water all over my monitor
is that swl photoshop work or real?
The real McCoy.
i'm still giggling over the santo claus pic
Shhh...I don't think anybody saw it.
back to giving

penn a golden shower

eventhough I had seen this before

I still had my beverage go through the nose when I scrolled down to this photo.

A SWL Classic!!

and here..the weather is penetrating

thrust

I think this game is going to resume tonight, and they move tommorow to a night game

Doesnt that just make sense. It will stop raining within the hour

I don't think they can change the time of the game

Unless they have 2 games tomorrow (which can’t happen)

Correct.

They can’t change tomorrow’s game time. Even if it stops raining, and even with the new drainage system, there was a TON of water on the field. Probably had 2+ inches of rain within half an hour.

I’m guessing it’ll be called. Radar shows it should be raining at least two more hours.

you posting from your phone?
No, as I posted on the main page...

... I left when it started raining… knew there was heavy stuff coming.

As I did during the Chiefs - Cougars game.

Great minds…?

Ah, that makes sense, I still think it stops raining in the city soon, thats all
I agree

Radar looks like it could be done raining soon

Doesn't everyone want to get this game in?

Every game counts in my opinion and a 5.5 game lead isnt a good as a 6 game league. Lets wait it out and come back and beat these Stros.

Our lead would still be 5.0

Brewers would be 5 games back and the Birds 5.5 back…

Don't want anyone to get hurt

playing on a field that is to wet to play on.

Sure, it'd be great to finish if they could.

But the radar looks like it’ll be raining for at least another hour, maybe 90 minutes, then it’d take 20-30 minutes to get the field in playing shape. By then it’d be well after 11:00 and there’s a day game tomorrow.

And as noted below, you don’t want to get anyone hurt on a wet field.

The game *IS IN*
Yeah but then ya gotta wait for the field to be playable, etc.
OT: How is Cincinnati ball park?

3 friends and I are attending all the series games in September against the Reds..How is the experience in Cinncy? Anyone?

I'm heading down there to

I will be at the Sunday game

One of my buddies lives in Cincy

It will be my first time in the city and should be fun to attend all 3 games..

Great

I went to school at Miami of Ohio and a bunch of us would go to 2 or 3 games there a year when the Cubs were in town. Not a bad seat in the house, scenic view, good fans, etc. Definately check it out.

it will be full of cubs fans

pretty easy ballpark, not much to do on the ohio side of the river, but go over to northern ky, lots of good resturants, bars, etc..

haha, I didnt mean easy

meant fun…

The ballpark is okay...

Nothing too special. But the scene is lots of fun. At the Cubs/Reds series last September, there were no less than 12,000 Cubs fans the night that the Cubs clinched.

We drive down for Columbus when the Cubs are in town.

It's OK...

As far as new ballparks go, it’s not on a level with something like Pac Bell/AT&T or Camden Yards but it’s not a bad place to watch a game.

Disclaimer—I’ve only been there to see the Cubs and only on Opening Day (twice), so that gave the atmosphere a boost, I’m sure.

It is pretty cool.

Don’t sit in Right/Center because of the smokestacks. Although, I doubt they will get to use them. :)

Ha

Last time I was there Reds hit 7 hrs against the Cubs. One of TWO times they have done that to the Cubs THIS year.

Last time I sat there, Estes pitched. Enough said.

Although Sammy hit #500 a row beside me. I was close to catching it.

I was at that game too.

The stadium is not too bad, if you are able to get Club Seats, those are great seats, and don’t get the Skyline chili, it’s pretty nasty. But the LaRosa’s pizza isn’t too bad.

LaRosa's Pizza is pretty good.

When I go I usually get the row right beside the Cub dugout.

Is this game going to resume?

I need to know weather I should go to bed.

weather or whether? cute.

your guess is as good as anyone. maybe if the Cubs offer to fly Favre in for the 7th inning, ESPN will force mlb to continue the game.

"Weather" - I get it
pretty stupid wasn't it?
espn top 3 stories

1. favre ad nauseum

2. joba the hurt

3. prince clouts parra

everything else squeezed into 5 minutes

Nothing about Manny?
did prince and parra kiss and hug yet?
I heard Favre flew in to see them

Now he will pitch and play first for the brewers

I don't want to hear another word about "BF"

....unless he’s supplanting Orton or Grossman as theBear QB

did anyone else see that cubs/mlbblogs.com commercial

yay or nay? i say yay

link?
couldn't find one....

they’ve played it at least twice tonight….the jist of the commercial was talking about there is no jinx, no curses, bad karma, hexes

damn
rough transcript

“there must be something to this curse business” (background voice)

main voice – “you can’t believe in superstitions. or black cats bringing bad luck. no curses, jixes, bad karma, hexes.

october is about believing in YOURSELF. so when a black cat stares you down on your way to the post season, stare back (video of z).

bc there is no time for fear this fall, there’s only ONE october.”

I say nay

Goats, cats, Bartman. Let it go, already.

that's what the commercial is saying though

don’t believe in the past bs…..believe in yourself TODAY

Understood, but --

Why give the past bs more attention.

ugh spoken like a true badger
What the hell

is that supposed to mean??

IDK but I got your back, Badger. We alum gotta stick together!
Thanks, Dan.
it's great to be a hawkeye
Not this year it won't be!!!

How’d Drew Tate turn out for ya? He was GREAT in high school…and that was about it.

Wonder if he'll dwell on that like he does on Bartman!
whoa whoa whoa

need i remind you of the capital one bowl…..sure he never lived up to the hype, but that was one of the greatest bowl games endings, EVER…..period, end of story!

me too.
well, that's unexpected!
oh god....where is sue and cubsandhawkeyes

when i need them!

They don't pick fights!
you know it's all in good fun....

.....right?

Yes, I do

No worries!

k good

(badgers stink, cough cough)

lol

Go to the new thread!

yeah history sux!!
parra better

use cc as an interpreter

ESPN

Just a small note – the three clowns they have on today (Kruk, EY, and Buck) are terrible, just terrible. Mrs. Donut, who usually doesn’t care, commented on them as well.

Feckless, Reckless, and Neckless
we're espn

we don’t have to be good

a slogan shared by the pittsburgh pirates

hey I love Kruk

he never misses a mullet night @ the Cell

Kruk is awesome

Same with Barkley on TNT

Like when he

predicted Randy Johnson to win 30 games his first season with the Yankees.

too bad cub hitters weren't more patient

Could have been called in the 4th. To quote Airplane, “the Cubs picked a bad night swing at everything.”

My sentiments exactly....

Len abd Bob started talking about the lightning and I was thinking “Why are they tearing through the innings and not slowing everything up seeing as they are behind?”

Well....

What sucks is that because ESPN picked this game up, the moved the game time up an hour. If they kept at its original time there is no way they get through 5 innings before the rain.

Oh well…everything happens for the reason. If the field is too crappy to play better not tempt the baseball gods

I can relate....

No-one else here seems to grasp it’s OVER unless they go back out and start playing

Earth to KC

the game is scheduled to start back at 10:18… Tarp is off the field…

Just statin the truth....

I seem to see a lot of “unrealistic” speculation on the posts…...

2 sides to that argument...

but….”play to win”....ought to be in everybodys mind

when game comes back do you see any defensive changes?

I see edmonds being taken out because of possible slippage and hurting of knee, I also see maybe ramirez or soriano taken out….. probably be:
soriano lf
—marshall-p
fontenot 2b
ward 1b
ramirez 3b
-deRosa LF
edmonds cf
-johnson cf
soto c
fukudome rf
cedeno ss/3B
dempster p
-theriot ss

looks good to me

but i don’t know it’ll beat valverde in the ninth

Yaaaawwwnnnnnn...........

Later, all.

Have a great night!

Still in a Delay according to ESPN
so what is the latest update?
still in a delay on gameday
Clear as crystal out west.
OK that's it - G'NIGHT!!!
still listed everywhere as rain delay...

...but i can’t imagine that they’re going to play

i mean its been nearly three hours

they gotta call it i guess.

though it’d be kind of fun to watch them play the rest of the game in front of an empty stadium

it has not

been called yet

How long did they wait

back when Maddux was going for his 3000th K? I know that game took forever to start back up, but not sure it was past the 5th.

was at that game...i think it started around 10:15ish
http://www.cubworld.com/category/a_cubworld_cam/

Doesn’t look to bad there…wet but not much rain

Found video of Prince & Parra!!

Persuing Brew Crew Ball for the fight video, and found it. Prince looks like an ass.

Here.

Dan

(new window)

Be gentle, it’s only on a T1.. I was wondering why the access-log was scrolling. Brewcrewball doesnt’ get as many hits.

looks like no rain

but lots of people leaving the ballpark

ESPN says a decision is coming up in 3 minutes.
If the Cubs were to lose

this is probably the “best” way to do so. A quasi-day off for all. But I’d still rather see them win it.

Fingers crossed....

I’m rather hoping it will resume seeing as, apart from the West Coast games, it’ll be one of the few games during a season when I get to enjoy a delicious beverage while watching….(given that it’s only 3pm in New Zealand)

Did anyone notice ESPN’S bottom scroll? AL…..FAVRE…. NL…..FAVRE…. did he start his own League?

it says Sportscenter is next
Favre cuts the cheese.....

pictures at 11

Hey!

10.20pm first pitch!

For real?
Closed feed...

Listening on mlb audio and you hear the closed feed stuff the radio producers get….
Pat and Ron resume at 10.18pm

Per WGN radio on MLB.com - game will resume at 10:20pm CT !!!
YESSSSSSSSSSS
I knew I should have taken a nap
wow

<—amazed

Bonus...

I’m going to the beer fridge then….

Me too!!!!!!
The game is back
Paul Friedman just announced it over the PA to the fans

still sounds like a good crowd out there

the ones left
ESPN better show it!
Let's Get Some Runs!!!!!
hell yea!!!!!
will it still play on ESPN?
stu scott

on sportscenter

Bleachers for Tomorrow

What time do the Gates open for the Bleachers?

I think 2 hours before gametime....
but the line usually starts waaay before that

get there plenty early

I wonder how mad the stros are?
Actually..not at all....

They win if it’s called

Will it be

on ESPN as well?

I don't know

This is some marquee billiards coverage on ESPN2….

I love the Cubs...
+1
+ sideways snowman

Sleep? I’ll do it when I’m dead!

It will

they just said so on espn

Al, hustle your rear-end back to the bleachers!
This would be a BIG comeback from the Astros and Rain if we could win
i dont know if espn will go back to it

van pelt didnt sound like it

Per WGN

A severe t-storm warning has just been reissued to northern cook county till 11 pm

OT: Joba left game w/ shoulder injury...

....i think ESPN will have to cancel coverage of the Cubs on account of this

plus i think brett favre just sneezed
Fielder's response: "He offered me a hamburger"
What a jerk Parra is...

trying to tempt him

GOOD/BAD

GOOD – BASEBALL
BAD – TIRED

Doesn't look like ESPN will go back.. they just said they would mention it/talk about

it… but they’re too busy talking about brett favre….

Are you kidding me?

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No Erin? No rest of the game? BSPN!
Maybe

Maybe we can convince them Brett is at the game. He has been to Wrigley at least once. They showed him on tv a few years ago.

they can say “Here we are where one time Brett Favre descended from onhigh to grace Wrigley with his presence”

gaudin

doing long toss

You can wish in one hand and want in the other....

BUT…as I read it all…this game went 5 and 1/2…it’s as good as in th books …..unless …of course…..they all decide they want to play some more 2nite

They already said it is resuming in 15 minutes
Which doesn't surprise me...

a…..and off course I’m ahppy about…

God damn ESPN

they better go back…

They can put it on ESPN 2 at least
Don't want to miss some of that exciting World Series of Poker action.

You may vomit at will.

Please, tell me ESPN will go back to the game.

I don’t need to see more stuff about Favre, Parra/Fielder or Chamberlain.

Can I interest you in some Bosox-Royals?
I just threw up in my mouth. ESPN is now talking about Favre.

No mention of going back to the Cubs.

Can't wait for the footage of Favre on a bicycle with some dorky Pack kid whose drunken daddy in a hunting vest is probably the one who REALLY wants to ride on the handle bars!
Ha nice

BTW longest.subject.line.evar

don't forget Manny being Manny.
Just grab a quick flight to Chicago

Never have to worry about any of that hoopla

there are other stories???

oh yeah, steve smith combining all 3….

football, fight, injury

anyone have the link to the truelook webcam?
http://www.cubworld.com/category/a_cubworld_cam/

That is link to Cubs World right across street from wrigley

Yost.....

....calls reporters rude for asking about a fight that happened in dugout….in a baseball stadium….where people paid for their tickets….Ned Yost sounding an awful lot like Larussa.

Yeah, but LaRussa will probably have a job after this season.
Maybe the Sux...

...will hire Ned after MLB orders Williams to ax Ozzie/

Only he is more likely

to eat his own poo than Tony.

except not

collapsed at the wheel while drunk

Packers hired Ari Fleisher to do PR/damage control

Maybe Brewers can bring in that car salesman that used to own them…what’s his name? Oh, yeah, Selig. He’s good at spinning bad situations…

(The President/Brett Favre)...

...just wants (Congress/The Packers) to approve (the warrantless wiretap bill/his reinstatement to quarterback) without questioning (the bill’s contents/his shameless flip-flopping).

when I heard that I thought it was a joke
I wonder if Erin Andrews

is giving Sori a nice massage to keep him loose

probably would be giving him something else too..
OT: The reason Joba was still on the board for the Yankees

is because many teams had concerns about his health. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious. I hate to see young, promising players hurt.

Signed, "Dusty Baker."
WGN Radio

Says game resumes in 15 minutes.

Foxsports say 10:20 game resumes
why the HELL are they talking football?

its still 6 weeks until the regular season starts!

Baseball is boring

and only old people watch it.

Love, ESPN

Sh&^...the way the Bears look.....

Why it is even coming up here yet surprises me

Amen.

The team is abysmal. And it’s really starting to irk me when sports shows/news start w/ Bears training camp instead of a first baseball team.

first place*
Ill be surprised if the bears score a touchdown this year, offensively that is
We went to Bourbonnais

We went to Bourbainnais and the Cubs the next day. Talk rex and kyle all you want but the biggest Bears problem is the best wide receiver in Chicago is Samardzija.

YEA...LOL.....
  • ANGELO MUST GO *
with the magic number....

one lower than when the rain came

UH WHAT?
the magic number dropped one when the brewers lost.
First rule of MN

is you don’t talk about MN.

The Second rule of MN is YOU DON’T TALK ABOUT MN!

since when was minnesota taboo?

;)

I talk about Minnesota all the time; my girlfriend and I are from there...
Al

Glad to hear you’re safe and sound. Said a prayer for all the people at the park naming you and some others that I knew were at the game by name.

I was in my basement with the family until about 15 minutes ago. Scary night.

What scary is what would happen if a tornado did hit the ballpark during a game. I don’t know where they’d put everyone.

I had mentioned I was possibly going tonight on an unrelated message board and got plenty of calls because it’s all over ESPN and such,

Next time....

...and this is coming from a corn (and sirlion/NY Strip) bred midwestern boy…..a little ole t-storm scares you…..hop a plane soutbh for a hurricane

i've got a really good feelings about todays game....

if you’re the astros, you gotta be thinking “man the mlb wants the cubs to win” not that i’m complaining

ESpn showing wrilgey!!!
who pitches the sixth for the stros?

guesses

jd drew
brett farve?
I already called him for the 7th inning stretch.

I guess he could do both.

Latroy....

...and he is going to get worked. Just to keep the world in perfect balance.

Blue Mike

just got called up during the rain delay

Damn it!

Why couldn’t the rain have come an inning early? We could have played a split DP tommorow.

maybe espn will show the game
still doesn't sound

like espn has decided if they are going back. that was a very vague outro

If they do

If they do they’ll Favreize it somehow. They’ll say “We’re not all that far from Green Bay where Brett Favre is right now…..”

Or they will spend an inning discussing how the Cubs game may affect Brett.

or

how they wouldn’t need to a delay a game for favre because he could single-handedly beat a team of 11 tornadoes.

Hes such a butt

He’s such a butt that he probably caused the tornadoes so ESPN would do more of him.

Please tell me

that this is a good sign they are going to go back to the game on ESPN. I can’t stand the idea of watching Houston’s announcers.

Milt Rosenberg

You sound like a sweet old man, but get off the air already. Where are Pat and Ron?

Next time I have sleep issues..... I might try listening to Milt lol
Prince Fielder is a big fat bunghole...

anyone catch his fight with Parra? I know Z did a similar thing in the Cubs dugout but this comes right after his 5 year old antics with the ump against the Cubs. He is an immature prick. I have thought so since his comments about him shutting his father up during their pennant race last year. Selfish loser.

he's a pile of you-know-what

and you would know what if you could read his lips during that game

hint:

(it rhymes with “horse-spit”)

Yost's attitude....

....I don’t remember Lou telling the media to butt out of it. As I remember the Cubs situation Z apologized to everybody. There was no big FU to the fans. It seems somebody ought to be held accountible to the Brewers fans.

Lou I thought said that there will be action done

not to mention his tirade did help..

show it on the deuce

if nothing else

OT- quick help from chicago area board members

My father, in his mid-70s, is home by himself tonight in Barrington (my mother is out of town). Anything I should be really worried about weather-wise?

The bad stuff...

...went south of Barrington (I am about 40 minutes south) and the worst of everything has already gone through.

He should be fine.

my folks live near-ish to there...

(west chicago 0ff 59) and they said it blew by w/out any major damage

My dad is at 59 and Army Trail....

...and he said that he thought the tornado passed right over his house….no major damage, did not touch down…

Thanks guys!

Appreciate it!

I live about...

...2 miles west of Army Trail and 59 and it got very dicey there for a while. I heard a tornado was spotted at DuPage Airport, but haven’t heard any official recognition of that.

"Chicago Cubs Baseball is on the air!"
Why isn't it on wciu yet?
TV won't come on 'til moments before the game starts.
it's back on the astros feed
Apparently the King of Queens rules all
