Saturday Photos

There's not much we all want to remember about the last two days. However, here are some photos of the key moments in Saturday's loss.

Nice bunt!
Ted Lilly lays down a perfect bunt...

Out? I think not.
... but after initially being called safe, is ruled out by 1B umpire Tim Welke

He knows he should have swung

Time to move on

Well, let’s go win the series against the Astros! And I do believe I might be first today.

+1

You can’t win every series, although I think we all may believe that with this team.
2-2 with the Phillies is respectable, seeing how we didn’t hit the ball in clutch situations.

Lets beat the Astros.

We may not have won that series

but we didn’t lose it either.

Did the replays............

…………reflect Howard missed the tag?

Tough to tell from my seat in the bleachers.

Yeah, he was safe.
That would have made a HUGE difference in that game.

Instead of 2nd & 3rd with two out, it would have been bases loaded, one out, with Soriano up. Even a fly ball would have scored a run under that scenario.

This is off topic from yesterday's game.

I didn’t think it was worthy of a fanpost so I figured I’d just type it here.

I cannot believe that Ned Yost, trying to catch his Brewers up to the Cubs, would make a big deal about that hit. His team won the game, hit well, and Sabathia was lights out again. So why in the hell would he try to add a distraction by telling the reporters how MLB was robbed a no hitter?

First off, it was a close call. It was closer than John Kruk and Ned Yost both said it was. LaRoche’s hustle down the line caused CC to rush and bobble the ball. It would have been a close call had he fielded it cleanly.

I just think that as a manager, I would want my players concentrating on catching the Cubs rather than a controversal score. I might still appeal, but I think it’s a bad move making a huge deal of it. Sabathia didn’t.

I agree.

I watched the replay several times and I thought it was a hit, though I suspect if such a play had happened in the 7th or 8th inning of a no-hitter, it might have been ruled an error.

In any case, yes, it’s a distraction. Let’s hope it distracts the Brewers for several days.

ESPN's poll overwhelmingly said it was an error too.

I don’t get it. It was a really close call.

I disagree

I think it was an error and in the opinion of the player’s, they could see this as Ned standing up for them. I would want Lou to do that same thing.

I posted in the recap that I LOVE this

Emphasis on LOVE. This is the best news of the weekend for the Cubs. Ned Yost still doesn’t have his focus on the task at hand. As Al said, let’s hope it distracts them for several days.

I want the Mets to win 2 or 3 this week at Miller Park by lopsided scores. I want the Brewers to have a lot of doubt in their minds about beating good teams. Really, I want the second best NL team out of the playoffs, but that’s a longshot at this point, unless the Mets sweep and the Padres shock the Brewers by winning 3 of 4 — then things get a bit more interesting.

Ned Yost

is a hothead who gets easily distracted- I remember when he got suckered into a beanball war with the Cardinals in the last week or two of last season, which ended up costing the Brewers a ballgame in a tight division race.

Hey Al

Were you wearing your BCB shirt on Friday? I was between the dugout and 3B and could barely see the LF bleachers, but I thought I saw you or someone near your usual spot wearing the BCB shirt.

Yes, I was wearing the BCB shirt on Friday.
Al, nice game recap yesterday despite the loss.

I love the Fall but can’t believe the Summer is coming to a close.

I’d rather the Cubs stumble a little right now and peak at the right time. We are spoiled to label a 2 game slide as stumbling, expectations change quickly. I’ve been as hard on Marquis as anyone (still think he is overpaid), but what a luxury to have him eat innings as the 5th starter. Hopefully he has another performance like his last. My mom and step-dad will be there today so hopefully they will bring some luck.

Have a great day off everyone.

One more thing Al,

where do you get the stat of the chances of the Cubs making the playoffs on the lefthand side of the homepage?

Baseball prospectus has them under"stats"
Thanks

I don’t expect an explanation, but how the hell do they figure that out?
