and I’m in the habit of checking the scoreboard such as when the Brewers are playing at the same time as we are. I want to beat the Sox 4 more times this year.
I just don’t understand the constant bashing. It’s a team game, and we are winning, even with Lee underperforming. He’s not going to get benched, he’s not going to get PH-ed, and he’s the captain. He probably struggles with his performance more than any of us.
There is something terribly wrong with Derrek Lee. Either he’s just getting old, or he’s injured, or he’s losing his eyesight, or he’s in a bad place mentally.
But he does not belong anywhere near the batter’s box in a big spot. He’s a liability.
right....it was right down the middle though....hmmmm....maybe only pitches on the inside are hittable for him anymore
I remember in 2004 how they talked about he was great about the outside pitch, but pitchers would consistently beat him inside. He finally adjusted, and feasted on constant pitches inside. Well, the pitchers have finally adjusted, and he needs to find some consistency. Heck, if you know what is coming, you should be able to catch up to it. and get under it.
Wood gets ALL his confidence back in that one…I love Lou keeping him in, as stressful as it was. He’s our closer, he’s one of the leaders, and he needed that f-ing MONSTER out. Wow.
5.5 games up, Brewers lose their best chance to win against the Phillies this weekend – Sheets threw today, they miss CC, and now they have to face Hamels. I LOVE IT.
the other night. If she’s not she’s putting weight on. Did she just get married recently? I just noticed a few months back she was wearing a ring on her left hand ring finger?
as Marmol & Wood were channeling Mitch Williams, every play — every break went the Cubs way in both the 8th and 9th innings…Defensive gems, strange over-slides, etc etc etc…
However, if your explanation is indeed the case here, isn’t that a bit hypocritical? If one feels they shouldn’t write the name of God, then is it really any different if they write G-d? If what they type is being tracked on the great scorecard of life, I’m pretty sure that G-d gets as big of an ‘e’ as God…
for a MEMORABLE night on the blog….i was a virgin to actually posting on here til tonight, and what can i say, this is one of those nights Al has talked about all year…remember where you were. I know i will
My son’s class bred some butterflies this spring and when they let them go one landed on his finger. All the other kids gathered around in amazement and he felt like such a bigshot.
I honestly can't believe that there is a lack of action.
I mean, com’on, we already know there are numerous neutral sites we could be playing at this weekend. Any doubleheader or screw-up in the schedule only helps the Brewers and/or other wild card contenders.
I don't like that after this last two game momentum...
…it is going to be stalled for at least a day or two. I know we could use the rest…but this game was pretty magical, and I’m flying high right now, as I am sure the players are.
I am not sure how much authority he really has in this situation. I know that for an “normal” game, the home team controls the start of the game. If it is raining, they are the ones who decide not to start and or cancel. The umpires/MLB have no control until the first pitch is thrown.
At this point, they are probably just a mediator between the Stros and the Cubs.
We are up on the Brewers by 5.5 games, and the Mets are right there with them for record, and there are still 14-17 games left for teams. Too early to determine that, I think.
about D. Lee’s lack of driving the ball, and the fact that he – as we all know – hits into way too many double plays. I don’t care as much about the Ks.
I don’t know how Dome is reacting. I believe D is a professional and will be pissed off and fired up. But I know what you’re saying, doing that to a veteran is rough.
Harden left the game with a 3-2 lead after 6 in line for the win. How “Endangered” would you say his status as Winning Pitcher was in the 8th & 9th innings?
People are calling in and saying that Cards lost the game. I’m all most of the negativity after a win, but it seems like at this point he is all sunshine all the time now.
The have a Cat 4 Hurricane barreling down on Houston. What the hell are they going to do if this storm destroys the infrastructure of the city and there is no way they can play baseball games in houston.
Just play 2 damn games in Atlanta….Pony up to fly the Astros Families to Atlanta for the game, etc, etc. Then if the third game is needed, play it at the end of the season.
I don’t care where they play the games…i just want them played so we don’t F ourselves by having a DH the day before the Crew series
Harden pitches a good game but instead of talking about that, they talk about his velocity. Yeah, he was not flaming it up there…but he has not really be doing that at all in most of his starts. He has been mixing a high 80s, Low 90s fastball with his changeup. He was doing the same shit that Hammels did to us.
To this guys even understand the art of pitching…not about velocity. Location, Location, Location, and Deception
Almost had him at first

lostinthevines - September 11, 2008
He's absolutely right
There is something terribly wrong with Derrek Lee. Either he’s just getting old, or he’s injured, or he’s losing his eyesight, or he’s in a bad place mentally.
But he does not belong anywhere near the batter’s box in a big spot. He’s a liability.

Make a fanpost, dammit.
Clutch16 - September 11, 2008
right....it was right down the middle though....hmmmm....maybe only pitches on the inside are hittable for him anymore
I remember in 2004 how they talked about he was great about the outside pitch, but pitchers would consistently beat him inside. He finally adjusted, and feasted on constant pitches inside. Well, the pitchers have finally adjusted, and he needs to find some consistency. Heck, if you know what is coming, you should be able to catch up to it. and get under it.
tapdeer - September 11, 2008
SLAM IT SHUT WOODY
kodypuckett23 - September 11, 2008
There were pinch-hitters available.
Edmonds or Ward – both left-handed.
Lee is batting .200-ish with RISP and 2 out.
D98 - September 11, 2008
So who would play first base in that scenario?
I’d prefer to have his defense at first with a one-run lead.
Bill Potter - September 11, 2008
Ward, or DeRosa, or whoever.
1B defense wouldn’t matter as much with a bigger lead!
Lee’s an automatic out in that situation.

TXCub - September 11, 2008
Pretty sure he made the heads-up play to get the tying run.
dtpollitt - September 11, 2008
His throw was bad.
Aramis was pulled out of the play, and had to get him on a freak overslide.
D98 - September 11, 2008
actually, it was
Aramis had to hustle back because he was charging — ball should have been bunted to 3rd.
Had he been playing back, throw essentially tags the runner.
Shanghai Badger - September 11, 2008
yeah there is nothing to complain about
graceunderpressure - September 11, 2008
Dude, that was a terrible throw.
Aramis made a nice play. Lee screwed it up.
D98 - September 11, 2008
no, he didn't
watch it again. throw was right there. Aramis was in for the bunt and had to hustle back.
Shanghai Badger - September 11, 2008
The throw was up the 3rd base line.
Aramis had to spin around to try to tag the runner.
Lee had very little to do with that out.
D98 - September 11, 2008
guys relax
Dlee made the fundamentally correct play but we got lucky
cubsonWGN4ever - September 11, 2008
Look....
the guy was safe at 3rd on the original throw. I don’t see what DLee’s glove had to do with anything on that play.
DLee is a big reason for the Cubs success before, during and after. Anyone who says otherwise is itching for a fight.

I LOVE IT.

some people don’t write the name of G-d in its entirety, for religious reasons.
CubFaninNY - September 11, 2008
obviously
I was just having a little fun with initials.

Ike could become a Cat 4 hurricane - Cubs going back to Chicago
Cubs to workout at Wrigley on Saturday and have bags packed for departure to a neutral site.
And Vince Young is still needing his space, nursing his sprained MCL and planning on eating hot wings
cubnational - September 11, 2008
I honestly can't believe that there is a lack of action.
I mean, com’on, we already know there are numerous neutral sites we could be playing at this weekend. Any doubleheader or screw-up in the schedule only helps the Brewers and/or other wild card contenders.
dtpollitt - September 11, 2008
guess here is that they go to a neutral site on Sunday
I can understand Mclaine wanting the gate rec’ps. And the home games.
At least they aren’t going there tonight.
Shanghai Badger - September 11, 2008
I agree
Ya play two…Sunday and Monday in Atlanta.
if need be, you can play the third game after the seasion… Good time for Randy Wells to get his first career start.
TheRiot Police - September 11, 2008
agree any soultion that includes a DH only hurts the Cubs.
Neutral site is the only soultion, especially if its a Cat 4…..they wont be able to get to Houston let alone play games there.
JB 23 - September 11, 2008
I don't like that after this last two game momentum...
…it is going to be stalled for at least a day or two. I know we could use the rest…but this game was pretty magical, and I’m flying high right now, as I am sure the players are.

Mapmaker - September 11, 2008

But I have no faith at all in Bud doing the right thing.
Bump Bailey - September 11, 2008
Unfortunately
I am not sure how much authority he really has in this situation. I know that for an “normal” game, the home team controls the start of the game. If it is raining, they are the ones who decide not to start and or cancel. The umpires/MLB have no control until the first pitch is thrown.
At this point, they are probably just a mediator between the Stros and the Cubs.
TheRiot Police - September 11, 2008
You might be right.
But a strong commish steps up and makes a decision that is best for all concerned. Somehow, I don’t see him doing that.

Should be 12...
since the Mets were off today, and both the Brewers and Mets were at 13 coming into the day.
hokie316 - September 11, 2008
Little early for that.
We are up on the Brewers by 5.5 games, and the Mets are right there with them for record, and there are still 14-17 games left for teams. Too early to determine that, I think.
dtpollitt - September 11, 2008
All I know is that if they are playing in Atlanta this weekend
I am THERE
cubnational - September 11, 2008
15 bucks sit on the field
derv - September 11, 2008
Magic number is 11
If the Cubs win half their last 16 games, the Brewers would have to win all but 2.
Clark Addison - September 11, 2008
There's no way any games should be played in Houston
Al’s post today was right on the money — neutral site, give the Astros cash for lost revenue. The games need to be played without much delay.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - September 11, 2008
Maybe we can get Cuban
to put some good faith in Drayton’s pocket…
TheRiot Police - September 11, 2008
That just makes too much sense.
Bud will find a way to screw it up.
Bump Bailey - September 11, 2008
Do two things
Play two games on Sunday and Monday in Atlanta. Gives the Stros time to help their families.
Fly/Bus the Stros and their Families to Atlanta, all expenses paid by MLB,
Play the last game of the year only if needed.
TheRiot Police - September 11, 2008
I agree with all that except the DH
They shouldn’t, but they scare me.
Bump Bailey - September 11, 2008
Agree
Two games…One Sunday and One Monday.
The Stros probably don’t care about playing a DH as much because they pretty much play crap teams the rest of the way
TheRiot Police - September 11, 2008

cowsarecool220 - September 11, 2008
And if you think Lee K's too much...
wait till you get a load of Hoff swinging and missing.
Bump Bailey - September 11, 2008
I'm more concerned
about D. Lee’s lack of driving the ball, and the fact that he – as we all know – hits into way too many double plays. I don’t care as much about the Ks.
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
I'm not suggesting Hoff is the answer
but if Lou can sit Dome down, whose defense is excellent, walks more and doesn’t hit into double plays, don’t you have to consider sitting D?
chitownhawkeye - September 11, 2008
I'm not opposed...
… but i think d lee would throw a fit. and Kosuke is still considered a rookie.
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
I hope he throws a fit
I don’t know how Dome is reacting. I believe D is a professional and will be pissed off and fired up. But I know what you’re saying, doing that to a veteran is rough.
chitownhawkeye - September 11, 2008
Better put D. Lee down in the batting order. Move de Rosa up.

Harden left the game with a 3-2 lead after 6 in line for the win. How “Endangered” would you say his status as Winning Pitcher was in the 8th & 9th innings?

At times, the word 'morphine drip' came to mind
spoiledcubbage - September 11, 2008
And by 'word'
I mean ‘phrase’
spoiledcubbage - September 11, 2008
That's good stuff...
Never felt so good in my life.

Hot…but man that Elevator does not go all the way to the top.
TheRiot Police - September 11, 2008
Dave Kaplan seems to have lost his mind
People are calling in and saying that Cards lost the game. I’m all most of the negativity after a win, but it seems like at this point he is all sunshine all the time now.
nji232 - September 11, 2008
I used to like Kap
But yesterday he was saying in a roundabout way that Ted Lilly is a better hitter than Geovany Soto because Lilly laid down a bunt.
Um, what?
Keith - September 11, 2008
Yep
Kind of like a handful of posters here — if anyone says anything at all that’s critical, he goes off
Shanghai Badger - September 11, 2008
that's why blue mike is so entertaining
derv - September 11, 2008
Even though we only scored three runs...
I am going to say this
Soto missed a double by a whisker and rain drop…I still contend that if it is not raining that kicks chalk
Soto misses a homer by about the height of a US Gymnast
DLEE misses a homer by 2 footlongs
Offense is coming around…I hope
TheRiot Police - September 11, 2008
The offense looks like its about to break about again which is really encouraging
nji232 - September 11, 2008
Couldn't agree more...
… and we’re gonna need it with this schedule. Hopefully the 2 or 3 day weather delay won’t break that stride that’s ready to bust out.
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
It goes to 11
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
I'm still amped...
that game got my blood a boilin.

MLB is the biggest bunch of idiots ever
They are playing chicken with God.
TheRiot Police - September 11, 2008
what's all this talk
about a game with a DH? This is the second post that mentions that.
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
oh, shut up dave...
i was thinking peeps were talking about the worst rule in baseball, the Designated Hitter… not a double header….. i’ll shut up now.
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
I was wondering that, too
derv - September 11, 2008
talk to yourself much?
I knew what you meant. Hate double headers and the DH.
Bump Bailey - September 11, 2008
i talk to myself all the time.
i also talk to my dog like she’s a person who cares what i say.
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
LOL
I do that during Cub games….A LOT!
Bump Bailey - September 11, 2008
I do to my radio while listeing to Cubs games
I expect one of these times Ron and Pat will respond
Madison Cub Fan - September 12, 2008
I guess we are the last 3 left
derv - September 11, 2008
apparently
that’s ok… i’m not usually one of the last ones left…
so, when was the last time a Cub hit a home run? i seriously can’t remember.
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
sori about 5 days ago
derv - September 11, 2008
I think Marquis was the last homer...
TheRiot Police - September 11, 2008
I've missed a few games from Sat on...
derv - September 12, 2008
BTW
The Crew still has a double header to play, so it’s not like it would be that much of a disadvantage.
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
They do? Who with?
That makes me feel a lil bit better….unless they win both and we lose both. Then I’m devasted.
Bump Bailey - September 11, 2008
apparently i'm on crack
i just looked at their schedule and it isn’t on there… i swear it was there last sunday
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
A regularly scheduled DH? Doubt that.
Had to be a rainout thing from early in the season I would imagine.
Bump Bailey - September 11, 2008
Really? With whom?
derv - September 11, 2008
My computer is effed...
i need to reboot. first time i’ve had to reboot my mac in a looooong time, though.
The Original Dave - September 11, 2008
OT: I think the Angels just gave up runs and runners on purpose just to get K-Rod the saves record
He is trying to get it right now.
nji232 - September 12, 2008
He gets a double play ball from Ichiro
One out to tie the record
nji232 - September 12, 2008
Gives up a base hit to make it a 7-4 game
Still two out Adrian Beltre up
nji232 - September 12, 2008
LOL Beltre gets a hit and now this game is actually interesting
nji232 - September 12, 2008
Done...
TheRiot Police - September 12, 2008
Ground out to first and K-Rod ties the all time saves record
always fun to watch baseball history
nji232 - September 12, 2008
The Chicago Media
is a bunch of worry warts…
Harden pitches a good game but instead of talking about that, they talk about his velocity. Yeah, he was not flaming it up there…but he has not really be doing that at all in most of his starts. He has been mixing a high 80s, Low 90s fastball with his changeup. He was doing the same shit that Hammels did to us.
To this guys even understand the art of pitching…not about velocity. Location, Location, Location, and Deception
Duma
TheRiot Police - September 12, 2008
ask Greg Maddux
derv - September 12, 2008
Well nobody is gonna beat him if he pitches like that in the playoffs
He didn’t have control issues, so what if he doesn’t K everyone. I like it better when he gets pop-ups and has a low pitch count.
