Zambrano No-Hitter in Milwaukee Against Houston..
HISTORY IS UNFOLDING IN FRONT OF US…….
One last feat remains…
In a season of firsts, of amazing feats…… THE ULTIMATE GOAL IS WAITING FOR US TO GRAB IT!
The other times I’ve watched a Cubs pitcher get close to a no-hitter, I was nervous, but not this time. I don’t think it was because I had so much confidence in Zambrano; it was that this was the first Cubs no-hitter that had meaning beyond its personal meaning to the pitcher. When the bottom of the 9th started, I was almost certain that the Cubs would win, no matter the number of hits that the Astros would get, and that was the most significant thing. We’re 71/2 up with 15 to go. Go Cubs go.
reading Zambrano No-No to all my baseball fan friends. My bro the Cards fan sent back you are kidding. Oh how much fun I had actually calling him to chat about it. He of course says whatever, he doesn’t deserve it, he is crazy, the Cubs won’t make it, blah blah. But I let it go because he just has his panties in a bunch over the Cards displaying a major suckfest. I don’t even argue with him now. I just smile :-) :-) :-)
What an effort. Soriano leads off with the Jack, just felt confident all the way. Strange but true felt great all day, felt the Cubs needed this rest after a tight series with the Cards.
Wonder if the Astros will complain about the travel. Well if they do, blame there owner.
Good Job Z, welcome back.
on TV with my grandfather. His name was Pappas, too, so he thought Milt was the greatest. Still remember Larry Stahl’s at-bat and my namesake’s call on that last pitch.
Grandpa was a big Cubs fan. Ironic that Saturday was the 22nd anniversary of his death. Maybe he’s trying to tell me (and us) something.
thinks all those Cub fans who drove to support their team and got to see a no-hitter are jerks.
And I wonder if B’k Ob. thinks we weren’t paying attention. You too DLee. Is anyone paying attention to the Sox playing a DH?
This was the highest game score for a no-hitter since Randy Johnson's masterpiece in 2004
when The Big Unit scored 100 against the Braves, striking out 13 on his way to a perfect game. There have been other pitching performances with higher game scores, but it’s been 2004 since a no-hitter scored this high.
I am so jealous that I couldn't watch the whole game.
I paid as much attention as a I could to the tiny grainy barclay feed. In the 8th is when I realized, “hey, I don’t think Z has given up a hit”. After that it became a mad scramble to see it as clearly as possible. Thank god ESPN kicked in for me in the 9th. Sadly, I didn’t have the emotional buildup y’all had. I did have the shakes, but not tears. Hopefully in October…….
…Wood’s game would be in talks as one of the greatest ever. His game score was 105, and that was with a damn hit. I’ve never seen a curveball or “slurve” move like it did on that day.
I was looking over a the other BCB curious for their reaction to such a horrible day for them, and I see this MDBNIU guy over their rubbing it in their faces.
Pretty lame if you ask me, we’ve been through rough times too.
Anyway, what an amazing performance by Z! Simply awesome!!
I was at the Cell in a box scouting our competition, and all of the Sox fans were gathered around the TV watching the magic that was Big Z. How ironic is that???
in the 3rd inning that Z had it going. They never talked about it in the dugout. He was pretty excited about it too. Hope Z finds Geo a little something special for helping him pitch a no hitter.
Also looks like Geo got his brows waxed on his off days.
what were the odds of Zambrano pitching a no-hitter at a hurricane-delayed neutral site game like that? well, as my hero Christopher Moltisanti said, “What were the odds of Lou Gehrig dying from Lou Gehrig’s disease??”
I think the Zambrano no-hitter added some hilarity to it. We’ve looked awful all month and were just swept right out of the lead in the Wild Card, and on the same night our biggest rival and one of the most hated pitchers by Brewers fans throws a no hitter in our ballpark and is celebrating surrounded by 20,000 Cubs fans.
That toxic combination of despair and fate does not meet often.
Never thought I’d see the day when a Cub threw a no-hitter. I watched Chuck Rainey and Jose Guzman lose each of their no-hit bids with 2 outs in the 9th. I watched Z lose one in the 8th in 2003 on a lousy call by the ump.
I was one when Pappas threw his, so I’ve waited a long time.
Seeing Z do it today is a benchmark in my life as a Cub fan. Though my Cub fandom won’t be complete till they win a World Series, this was a major milestone for me. I honestly never thought I’d see this happen.
That in a season that is the most magical many of us have experienced thus far, we climb out of our biggest losing streak of the season with our first no-hitter in 36 years. This is the year.
Goin to Wrigley this weekend for the first time in years. Wanna buy lots and lots of Cubs swag (there’s not too much here in Kansas…). Where’s the best place to do so? Is there a joint right next to the stadium? Or advice, guys?
I’m gonna be in Columbia in a few weeks with my girlfriend to hang out with her friend at MU. Not sure of the date yet, it’ll be a Fri/Sat thing. If you wanna get together and watch a Cubs game or somethin, I’m down.
Should be right around playoff time. I think I’m in Columbia most of the next couple months. Some random trip to Iowa prolly sneaks in there somewhere, but I should be here.
would fret about Z’s pitch count after what happened tonight. Whatever happened to just enjoying the game and not worrying all the time about possible injuries?
…… is the absolute poor sportsmanship over on Crawford boxes. Being upset your team lost is one thing, but they’re calling Zambrano all sorts of names, blaming it all on Selig, and generally embarrassing themselves. As if if it’s the Cubs’ fault the games are in Milwaukee. Hard to imagine anyone posting over there are adults with jobs.
Their owner is the dipshit. If he wasn’t worried about wiping his ass with bills, he coulda scheduled this elsewhere earlier – and NOT at Wrigley North. His fault.
He’s always been our ace, which is more than just the best arm on the team – it’s also the leader of the staff. And Zambrano will be penned for Game 1 of the playoffs, whoever we will be playing. And I’m more than comfortable with that.
with some of the players and they all felt from about the 5th inning on he was going to do this. Soriano said he just prayed no on hit the ball his way.
1956 – Sam “Toothpick” Jones 4-0 vs. Pirates, walked the first three batters in the 9th, then struck out the side!
1960 – Don Cardwell, first start as a Cub, vs. Cardinals, Moose Moryn with the game-saving shoestring catch
1969 – Kenny Holtzman, Aaron’s “3-run homer” turned around by the stiff north wind, Billy Williams catches it in the “well” — NO strikeouts
1971 – Ken Holtzman’s 2nd no-hitter against Cincinnat in June
1972 – Burt Hooton on a cold April day vs. Philadelphia
1972 – Milt Pappas, the “almost perfect” game, thanks to Fatso Froemming
And tonight’s masterpiece from “Z”
to the chorus of praise for Z.
Its the first no hitter for a Cub since I started following them, and as he’s one of my favorite players i’m so happy for him and the team.
This was the 3rd Cubs no-hiiter that I that I watched since I've been a fan.
I can still remember Hooten’s and especially Pappa’s no-hitters. I was only a little fart but it made me watch every game all these years, anticipating the next one and it finally came tonight! Too bad I only got to see the last of the 9th because WGN didn’t have it down here in Peoria but I listened to the rest on the radio. What an exhilarating effort! Made me think of Milt barking at that fat SOB on that ball four pitch, shoulda been a perfect game. I remember bringing my Mom into the room and showing her the Padres had nothing but zeroes on the scoreboard. Great memories! I still can’t believe Z did it!! Go Cubs!
This is the most incredible event of my cubbie life. I was three years old the last time the cubs had a no-hit. I fell asleep when it was 5-0, but had no idea the cubs were having a no hitter! Next year is here!
SUPER!

Enjoy this Cubs fans.
I had to wait 36 years to see another Cubs no-no. They don’t come along very often…
Zeke - September 14, 2008
I remember watching Milt Pappas' no-no
on TV with my grandfather.
Not Bruce Froemming - September 15, 2008
Fantastic
Shame a lot couldn’t see it, but hopefully it’s re-aired!
Good night everyone!
MrNFL - September 14, 2008
I wonder if Marty Brenneman
thinks all those Cub fans who drove to support their team and got to see a no-hitter are jerks.
And I wonder if B’k Ob. thinks we weren’t paying attention. You too DLee. Is anyone paying attention to the Sox playing a DH?

Best game score of the year
96 for Zambrano. Previous high was 94 by Lester.
Dan
dtpollitt - September 14, 2008

Hopefully in October…….
tapdeer - September 14, 2008
I had the damn shakes
I was discussing this with my friend. Is this the best Cubs moment since 1990?
nji232 - September 14, 2008
I dunno, we all have our favorites. This one goes high on the list though!!!!!
tapdeer - September 14, 2008

even better than the 20 K game
mondello58 - September 14, 2008
I respectfully
disagree… But its arguable.
Reddevil - September 14, 2008
I don't know
tonight was a special special moment in a great year
mondello58 - September 14, 2008
Nope.
Wood’s rookie year, at home, and him having to do it on the last hitter to get it done. Wood’s performance still more dominating, IMO.
dtpollitt - September 14, 2008
I agree.....I think we all knew Z would do this someday
…Wood in 98 was totally unexcpected
JB 23 - September 14, 2008
If that shitty little hit wasn't so...
…Wood’s game would be in talks as one of the greatest ever. His game score was 105, and that was with a damn hit. I’ve never seen a curveball or “slurve” move like it did on that day.
dtpollitt - September 14, 2008
agreed, takes nothing away from this one though
allstar5449 - September 14, 2008
What was a good moment in 1990 as "the baseline"?
kcjones - September 14, 2008
Man, perhaps this break is exactly what will start the hot streak.
day 1 nohitter.
day 2?
tapdeer - September 14, 2008
Lame
I was looking over a the other BCB curious for their reaction to such a horrible day for them, and I see this MDBNIU guy over their rubbing it in their faces.
Pretty lame if you ask me, we’ve been through rough times too.
Anyway, what an amazing performance by Z! Simply awesome!!

tapdeer - September 14, 2008
Geo said he thought
in the 3rd inning that Z had it going. They never talked about it in the dugout. He was pretty excited about it too. Hope Z finds Geo a little something special for helping him pitch a no hitter.
Also looks like Geo got his brows waxed on his off days.

Z
Never thought I’d see the day when a Cub threw a no-hitter. I watched Chuck Rainey and Jose Guzman lose each of their no-hit bids with 2 outs in the 9th. I watched Z lose one in the 8th in 2003 on a lousy call by the ump.
I was one when Pappas threw his, so I’ve waited a long time.
Seeing Z do it today is a benchmark in my life as a Cub fan. Though my Cub fandom won’t be complete till they win a World Series, this was a major milestone for me. I honestly never thought I’d see this happen.

What's really disappointing......
BeerCub - September 14, 2008
I don't give a hell what they think.
Their owner is the dipshit. If he wasn’t worried about wiping his ass with bills, he coulda scheduled this elsewhere earlier – and NOT at Wrigley North. His fault.

No-nos during my time as a Cub fan
And tonight’s masterpiece from “Z”

to head to bed. I know I won’t be able to sleep for a while yet. I recorded Sports Center so I’ll watch that.
Congratulations Carlos and to Geo for calling a great game too.

Just adding
to the chorus of praise for Z.
Its the first no hitter for a Cub since I started following them, and as he’s one of my favorite players i’m so happy for him and the team.
Onwards and upwards

Go Cubs!

Anyone still here?

Just woke up in Vienna! Big Z I love you!
This is the most incredible event of my cubbie life. I was three years old the last time the cubs had a no-hit. I fell asleep when it was 5-0, but had no idea the cubs were having a no hitter! Next year is here!
